He is a tough grader but he is extremely fair and offers equal opportunities for help. Extemely availiable to students via email, facebook, and phone. Very sociable and overall a really great person that will work with you to help you get the grade you need if you will do the work needed.

Andrew is an above-average professor. He is personable, and very effectively teaches his material. His sense of humor and worldly background add to the interest in his class.

such a good teacher. i did very poorly on one of the exams and he sat down with me and went through the answers one by one. he grades tough, but fair and wants you to do well. i hope i have the chance to have him as a teacher again, because although he is teaching me in a lecture, he is still the best teacher i have ever had

He came in half way through our semestre because the other prof up and left. If it weren't for Andrew, this class would have sucked. He was engaging and entertaining. Thank goodness he showed up!

Very good professor. He is very patient in long lectures, will always answer questions. Tests are straight forward. Read whatever he tells you to read because it most likely will appear on a test or quiz. He likes to go on tangents once in awhile but unlike most professors that do, his actually make sense and helped me learn material.

He came half way through our class because our other teacher left to become a semi truck driver. He made the class 1000 times better. I am not into politics at all but really enjoyed go to his class. He make class fun, interesting, and relevant. His tests aren't bad if you study. So glad he became our teacher.

Seriously, the best professor at the school. Matthews made the material easy to relate to current times and explains concepts beyond what is "necessary for the test". After taking his class I switched my minor to politics; I never really appreciated it until I took two of his classes.

Not only is he hilarious but he is a legit good teacher. If you need any help after class he is always willing to help you out. His tests are a little difficult if you dont apply yourself but other then that he is a GREAT teacher.

Funny and makes class interesting. Politics is boring but I found it interesting the majority of the time thanks to him. Tests aren't easy but he gives reviews and as long as you study you'll get at least a B in the class

I loved him as a teacher! I love politics, and he kept me interested. He showed us videos and talked often about current events. Also, stay for the entire review session, he goes over most of the test and sometimes people leave, but if you stay for the entire period he gives more and more answers! Also, sometimes gives e.c. for going to class!

Great teacher. The only way to get below a C is to try to. If you need help he has good availability. He does powerpoint but you will have plenty of time to write it all down then you can just listen to him talk about the content on the slide.

This class is so easy. Either get the notes in class or copy them online, and go to the class before the exam because he literally tells you every question that is on the test. He wants students to do well in his class. And he's funny and suuuuper hot!

Very easy. 3 Tests throughout the year. The lecture before test days he will go over all of the questions that are on the test the next day, makes it very easy for you. 1 group essay due at the end of the semester. He will probably ask you to vote for him.

Matthews is my favorite teacher so far out of both semesters. You have to try to fail his class. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is very helpful when he clarifies things. Go to the reviews before the test and he basically gives you the test. Also, go to his office hours, he is very helpful and remembers that when doing grades.

Had no real interest in this class to start with, I was taking it only because it filled a requirement. Midway through semester I picked up Poli sci as a minor so I could take another class with Matthews. He goes over the tests question by question before hand and his notes are all online. The class is easy and on top of that Matthews is great.

I never opened the textbook and got an A. Test questions are right from his PowerPoint slides. Go to lecture and you'll get an easy A. Great professor who really knows his stuff. I highly recommend taking his class

This is the only class that I actually look forward to and its not even my major! We need more professors like Matthews that are passionate about what they teach, and share life experiences involving certain issues.I DEFINITELY recommend this class if you want to learn something that you can actually apply to life in the real world.

TAKE ANDREW! You won't regret it! One of the best teachers on campus and if you are lucky you get to meet his super cute little son. Three tests that he tells you exactly what is going to be on them. He always pushes the test back to Thursday if the syllabus says Tuesday, so be ready for that! I took POL 140 with him also and it was great too!

Matthews is a straight up boss. Easily the best professor I have had yet. Makes things so easy to understand and will help you with any questions you have, and there's always a healthy dose of humor to be had each class period. Never missed his class, never will. Highly recommend.

Going to class isnt necessary, but it is better because he does put questions on the test strictly from lecture. He's funny. You dont have to read the text book but it helps. The test are straight forward no run around questions

He holds a review session and tells you EVERYTHING you need to know for the test. And he is just a very interesting person. His kid is adorable too. TAKE HIM!

Go to class and the review sessions and you can easily get an A. He gives hints during class of what will be on the test. If you stay for the entire review, he sometimes tells you which hints will be on the exam and which ones to ignore. He is an entertaining speaker and makes class interesting.

Only went to class on the review days. My final grade was a 89.3% If i would have done one of the extra credit I would have an A. Easiest class/exams I have ever taken because he gives you EVERYTHING you need to know and questions are right off his powerpoints word for word. Take this class. I seriously never went. If you do go, EASY A.

Hands down my favorite professor I've ever had. Not only is he funny, but he cares so much about what he does. He is extremely passionate and knows how to teach the material. He offers a lot of extra credit and his exam reviews are exactly what is going to be on the exam. I got a 97% in the class...so easy.

literally in love with matthews. easiest a's ive ever gotten. however, try to avoid taking both his 106 and 140 class at the same time, but definitely take both. he plans tests on the same days so it's kind of annoying to study for both but still pretty easy. dont buy the books

He posts all the PowerPoints online but you should go to class to better understand them. He is also a funny guy and usually lets you out early. There are only 3 exams each worth 100 points. There is a review day before each exam where he tells you exactly what's on it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. pretty easy class.

He has his good and his bad days. Everybody on here likes him but i think hes very cocky and full of himself. One time he told kids what was going to be on the test and later said that it wasn't and he just wanted to make everybody study more. Hes very funny and likes to talk in the beginning of class. Matthews is an AMAZING professor, he really does care about his students growth in the class. Class grade consists of 3 exams totaling 300 points and that's it. He may offer extra credit, but DO NOT ask him for it or you will never get it. Flexible office hours and willing to help however he can.

Attend as many lectures as you can! He will tell the class what will be on the test and then the lecture before the test, he tells the class what kinds of questions will appear on the test so you can find the answers, but there are parts that he won't tell you because he mentioned them in earlier lectures. Book is only used for case studies.

Very cool guy overall. Even as a non-POL major, I would still recommend taking him for pre reqs. Go to class, do the extra credit, study a few days in advance for the exams because that's all your grade is based off of.

This class was my favorite class so far at ISU. It is not mandatory to go and he puts the notes online, however I actually wanted to attend lectures because he is hilarious. There were very few times I actually used the book and tests were just based off the notes he puts online.

Great teacher - the tests are easy as long as you memorize the info that he tells you to know. Can be kind of condescending at times, but he warns you of that in the syllabus. If I had to take another politics class, I would try to take it with Matthews - overall, he's pretty awesome.

I'm an accountingfinance major and this class was a requirement for me, so obviously I was not looking forward to it. But, Matthews made this class very interesting, even for me. He demands respect and in return he will be respectful back. Look forward to studying fairly hard for his exams. But if you put the work in you should have no problem.

As if he needed another review. Took the class for Gen Ed and this guy almost made me switch majors. Politics has never been so interesting. Show up and take notes. It won't be that hard, I promise.

Andrew Matthews is a very interesting man, and the class was not hard to pass. His lectures can get a bit boring honestly, but you should go because there are questions on the test about things that are discussed in class.

I don't think he teaches at ISU any more, but someone needs to verify that. Great guy and fun teacher - my only complaint is that he brings up his religion too often, which seems out of place in a Political Science course at a public university.

This class was asynchronous so I didn't interact with him. He seems pretty relaxed though. The only grades you have are 3 tests but if you read the book, watch the lecture videos, and take notes you'll be fine. All of the tests are open book. I didn't study for any of the tests; I just used my notes and book and got As on all of them.

Although the only grades are 3 tests in this class, professor Matthews is great at his job. I also like how honest he is along with his sense of humor. If you take one of his classes make sure you attend class for the lectures and read the book.
