he uses power point slides, doesnt even let u copy them down and he tests u on things u have no idea about b/c u never wrote them down. awful class
hes a nice guy, even with a class of almost 350 people he cares about how well everyone does, hes new, his methods are pretty good, there is only one way to master this class and the lab MEMORIZE EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK AND EVERYTHING IN THE LITTLE LAB MANUAL FOR QUIZZES PRACTICALS AND EXAMS if you dont do this in any anatomy class you wont get by
He is really nice and concerned with how everyone does in his class. He will help anyone as best he can and is very approachable, so go talk to him! There is a lot of information in this course, you have to study EVERYTHING. Do the practice exams from the book's website, most questions on those practice tests are on the actual exams. STUDY.
His lectures have huge holes in them. If he says something in class, you can be sure it's not on the test. His tests are ridiculously hard, the class average for 350 people is around a 65. He's a nice guy, he tries to punish you on his tests though.
He is a nice guy and wants everyone to do well, however, to do well you are required to know everything in the 800 page book by the end of the semester. Study the book, and the website, not his lectures.
Unless you are some sort of genius, prepare to fail. I think he thinks that he is still teaching medical school...
HORRIBLE CLASS. He is always talking about how he wants you to do well but then he makes every test close to impossible. Unless you this is the only class in your schedule and you don't have a life. Prepare to do awful.
This class is pretty much impossible to pass unless you already have the book memorized. Lab helped save my grade, as well as the mini-quizzes he had because majority of us pretty much bombed his exams. He's helpful if you go see him, but otherwise, become a memorizer and pray for scaling.
Class was incredibly difficult and you needed to study up to a week before exams inorder to have a glimmer of hope...Don't miss exams he's drops one and even the final is a possibility, final had 150 questions but was graded out of 125 and 60% of questions were from old exams. You have to work hard all year but the class is do-able!
Mazurkie is incredibly knowledgable, he used to teach med school. This class is extremely difficult, but not because of him, because of the subject matter. He does his best to help everyone, but if you don't study two hours a day every day like he says, you will definitely fail.
Despite what most students think, you don't have to be a genius to pass this class. It's about working hard. Mazurkie is a really great guy and wants everyone to do well. He provides guidance and motivation and is always willing to talk to students. He can only do so much. He can't study for you and take your tests, that is all up to you.
The best thing about Mazurkie is his motivational talks. It makes the class seem more do-able, even if it still takes LOADS of dedication to get a A.
I had a crush on him. LOVED HIM!
awesome!!!
Very hard class simply because of the material but he is EXTREMELY helpful. He tries his best to make sure that every student gets out of the class with the grade that they need. He gives out a lot of extra credit and really WANTS his students to excell. All around GREAT teacher!
Really dedicated teacher. Class is exteremely difficult, purely because there is a lot of information being crammed into your head in a span of a few months. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Don't bother to keep up with note-taking in class, his notes are taken DIRECTLY from the book, so highlight during class and copy them into your notebook after class.
he is a great teacher, the material is hard not him, he is understanding and very helpful. He is easy to talk to and wants to see everyone pass and undderstand the material.he gave us all take hime exams so we could understand the material better b/c we all did bad on the in class exams.i definately recommend him!!!
I would've failed w/o outlining the text, but still enjoyed going to lecture, bc I didn't try to take notes. Put in the time to do the study guide, and the essays are cake. MC questions come from lecture, or left field. Nice guy. Didn't seem to keep his TAs in the loop all the time. Lab is fun, but takes over your life. Practicals were superhard.
He seems like he wants to help you, but he makes the material really, really, difficult to study for. You have no idea what he'll ask on the exam and chances are he'll ask something from the book that he didn't go over in lecture. He says he'll help you understand concepts and to talk to him in his office hours. I have never worked so hard for a B+
He is quite possibly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I am not saying this because I am failing the class because I'm not but he starts every class telling the us how hard the class is and how so many people fail. He makes me feel like I can't do it and he makes me feel hopeless. I have never had a teacher who made me feel so hopeless.

i have him now at ccri. he,s a terrible teacher.
It is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken but because of the material. There is so much to clean but just study the book ALL THE TIME. He is the nicest prof and really cares about his students.
half of the class is a pep talk. he is absolutely useless. you need to know everything in the book regardless of what he tells you. dont go to class; use the time to read the book. he is rude as well unless you are a cute freshman
Here is the secret: he takes his tests from the online tests from the book. I studied like CRAZY for this class never did well till someone told me that. Seriously, studied 8-10 hours each week! and still couldnt manage a C. Then someone told me about the tests and I got A's no prob, studying in a couple hours. Unfair, but true
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Rude and useless. You will only get a A if your one of his favorites in the class. Do not take him!
he is awful! unless your one of his favorite which is only a select few you will def NOT pass this class no matter how hard you study. and dont even bother studying his lecture slides it has NOTHING to do with whats on the test...the tests are totally impossible!
Amazing professor. The class is difficult because there is a lot of material to cover in a short amount of time. Go to lecture, read the chapter before class, and study the questions online. It's very possible to get an A
He is a great teacher, but tests are very hard. He will definitely try to help you at his office hours and go over confusing points/offer study tips. Go to class, but absolutely read the book beforehand and outline every chapter. AND do all of the online tests. VERY HARD CLASS BUT GREAT TEACHER!!
Lets be serious, anatomy is not easy nor is it fun but Mazurkie makes it an entertaining time. Unfortunately, I am not here for amusement, but there to learn and do well. Mazurkie does not teach material well, in fact, I could teach anatomy b/c he does NOT lecture well. You can NOT cover the digestive tract in 50 mins, yet be expected to know it
This was a difficult class. Taking notes during his lectures didn't work, at all- I just paid attention in class and then took my notes from the book. Decent guy, but he doesn't have patience for people who aren't interested in putting in the time.
I just had him for physiology. The subject is hard. I didn't take notes I used a tape recorder and used his slides to make in to index cards- it helped. I read the chapter when I could before class and that helped. I liked how he is a researcher and up to date with physiology-which we couldn't get from our textbook.
This class was one of my 19 credits last semester and I still got a B. Go to class, highlight the book, see him after class, and study during any spare time you have. It isn't impossible!
I took this class as a prerequisite for a graduate program, and by far one of the most time consuming courses in my history as a student. For all the time I put in I should have gotten an A+. Go to class. Sit in the same seat. Highlight in the book. Study, study, study!
This class basically takes over your life because there's so much material to cover in a relatively short amount of time. Read the book, go to lecture, do the chapter problems, and study the online quizzes. Dr. Mazurkie is an amazing professor who is very approachable and always willing to go over concepts/suggest study tips in office hours.
Mazurk is a great professor and is quite comical as well. As for the class, it is so time consuming that you probably won't have much of a social life if you want to get at least a B. The exams are tough and require hours of studying for a week in advance. The labs are pretty easy though if you put the time in. still prob the hardest undergrad class
He lays everything out for you. If you follow his instructions and advice, you WILL learn the material. It's a lot of work, but doing what he tells you to pays off. Also, make sure he knows your name. All in all, he is one of my favorite professors I've had so far.
these losers are full of it. I just want to say boo hoo to you. If you choose not to study for biology then the material will seem impossible. Mazurkie was a great professor. He always made it clear what was coming on exams, but if you were to **** to make it to class then you probably missed those reviews. don't blame a teacher for a bad grade

This class is a rude awakening for slackers...welcome to college. If you put the time in(and it will take ALOT of time) you can do well. I got an A and I worked for it. He's one of the rare teachers that in a class of hundreds he thinks of his students of more than just a number.
I don't understand how anyone could say Dr Mazurkie is awful. He came in in the middle of the semester to finish our class because our professor went on maternity leave. He's been fantastic. He's really nice, and really funny. He has a talent for teaching, and presents things in a way that is easy to understand. Just study! You're lucky to have h
Hard as hell, retaking it.
He comes off as a nice guy but his exams are horrible. If you can memorize 9 chapters and I mean memorize EVERY DETAIL then you will do fine. All he does is go over slides from the book during lecture but I guess there is no other way to teach the material...Anatomy is about memorization not so much concepts. The lab was even worse...for a 100 leve
Really really really tough class. Expect little, if any, social life. Read + Outline each chapter. I skipped class a lot to study but you should go because he gives a lot of extra credit, which helped a lot. Get an A in Lab, it's really easy.
Love Dr. Mazurkie. You probably hear that Anatomy is the toughest Freshman class on campus. It's not. Just put some time in. You will have a life. Mazurkie has an awesome sense of humor - makes class fun. I'm switching my major to Biology so he can be my advisor. Highly recommend talking to him about premed stuff. Great advice.
Great teacher but one of my hardest clases so far, a reality check for college my freshman year. If you put the time in you'll see results. Expect to give up some weekends before a test to study. The lab saves many with their grades. GO TO CLASS. PUT WORK INTO LAB.TAKE THE FINAL EVEN IF YOU DONT NEED TO. This is how I got an A in his class.
The class itself is very tough (c'mon guys, its anatomy, when isn't it hard?!) but Dr. Mazurkie really makes it interesting. He's so funny, and whenever possible he relates material to things that are easier to understand. TAKE HIS ADVICE & DO WHAT HE SAYS(especially his study tips!) Put in the time, and you'll do just fine!
Dr. Mazurkie was by far the best and most helpful teacher I have ever had. He is always there when you need him and although the class is extremely difficult, if you regularly meet with him, he will absolutely understand and help you out! I'm really going to miss his lectures.. he's a genuinely great teacher and friend.
Really nice guy overall. Has the best interest for everyone that attends* the class. Class is extremely hard, thus rendering no personal life. Doesn't curve tests unless he feels something on the test he didn't teach.
My favorite professor! I learned so much from him.
OK, we've all heard the horror stories. Of course the class is crazy hard, but if you put in a lot of time, it's also completely do-able. Find a form of studying that works for you, and stick with it. Get a hold of old tests. Mazurkie is an awesome guy & great teacher, introduce yourself to him.. and go to class - he gives out lots of extra credit.
Studied every night until I passed out, at work, at the gym, even while eating dinner with my folks. It stressed me out so badly I was irritable and no fun to be around. Felt like all I did was study, neglected my other classes. Still failed exams.
By far the hardest class I've ever taken but Mazurkie was the BEST professor I've ever had. Regardless, you need to study hard. Get old exams because that's basically how I passed! He's a great guy and willing to go WAY above and beyond to help you out..just go talk to him!
He's an amazing professor, he will help you with planning, and clarify anything you need after class
average professor, class is fairly difficult, def have to study for this class.
Very good professor, he knows his stuff. Interesting guy, and is quite humerous. Like he says in the beginning of the semester, what you put into the course is what you get for a grade.
Great teacher! Very helpful and is always available. Tests are hard but if you get previous tests it makes everything a lot easier. Go to class, he takes attendance randomly and also gives out extra credit.
Mazurkie is a great teacher who cares about his students. He encourages questions and makes time to see all of his students. YOU MUST STUDY FOR AN EXAM AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE!
pretty hard class; definitely keep up in lab and lecture and read the book. old exams are extremely helpful.
By far the best professor and most educated/helpful/motivational professor. Gives loads of E.C. Tests are easy as long as you study. By far not the hardest class just requires dedication. Wish he taught more classes.
Dr. Makurzie is one of the best professors I have ever taken a class with. Attendance and participation are a must, and reading the text is essential. He is very engaging, and makes hilarious analogies whenever possible. If you are ready to work hard, take his class!
Although it was the class I put the most time into, it's definitely a manageable class. He reads off his powerpoints most of class but the book is still pretty helpful since sometimes he puts questions from the book on tests. But a lot of his old tests are really good to study from, he even told us to find them. Overall great teacher
Best professor I've had; one of the smartest as well.
he is the best
Dr. Mazurkie is one of the best professors I've had so far. He makes lecture enjoyable by adding humor, stories and memorable examples. As long as you put in the effort he is willing to help you. A hard class, but definitely doable.
Mazurkie is the nicest teacher, but you need his old tests in order to pass his exams- mooch them off of someone and memorize the answers, the same ones are on your exam
This guy missed his calling. He should be a stand up comic!!!!!!!
This guy is hilarious, he actually makes this class less painful. but tests are extremely hard if you dont have old exams because they are all questions from old exams that are very specific.
Most intelligent professor I've had to date. You have to be very quick and motivated, as he moves extremely fast. His knowledge base allows for immediate answers to obscure questions. And he has a sense of humor.
THE ****ING MAN. He is extremely difficult. but can be described in one word. Awsomeness
Hands down the best teacher I've ever had. He can take a course that everyone dreads and make you not mind being there at all.
Good guy, not a bad teacher at all. the trick for the course is to get old exams and study them the two days before each exam. They are out there, you just need to find the right person to get them from. Tough course but you need to put the work in. I escaped with an A but the C that everyone needs can be attained by just studying old exams.
Great professor. Took this class during the summer as a visiting student and he made it enjoyable even with 3 hour lectures. Final exam was take home which was nice. He is very clear with his expectations. However, he lacks communication skills. It's tough to get in contact with him, find out grades on tests, or get the lecture slides added online.
Best teacher I've had to date. Gives good, informational lecture but you have to do a lot of outside reading to do well on the tests. Old exams help. Great, great professor.
dont take this class. AWFUL
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Make sure you read and study loads. Be prepared to not have a social life for the semester.
Class is difficult as expected, but absolutely doable. Read the book and study past exams. It's not the only way to do well, but it's certainly the easiest way. The class gets easier as you go in terms of being able to memorize information on a large scale. Mazurkie is awesome unless you cause drama. Don't try to find out other people's grades.
Lecture is useless, you will not get a good grade unless you memorize old exams and every chapter on the syllabus
Anatomy is an extremely hard class, but Dr. Mazurkie is a great professor. He is defiantly one of the smartest profs at URI. While lecture is entertaining it is not very helpful, passing requires heavy memorization from the back tests and the book. Overall he is approachable and is defiantly willing to help his students.
Dr. Mazurkie is an awesome person. The class is very difficult and requires a lot of reading. You wont pass if you don't read the book. Repetition is very important. The more you see the material, the better you'll memorize it. Take advantage of outside resources.
People are rating the guy a hard; however Dr. Mazurkie just taught me what a real college class is like. I got an A in the class, but not without studying for hours on end, and the online quizzes the book comes with. If you sit through his lectures you won't learn much, it's the outside effort that matters. Old tests won't help you anymore.
Grade depends 100% on how much/how often YOU study. Mazurkie is a fantastic teacher and person that does everything he can for a class that is your responsibility to do the work for, not to mention he's funny. Study old tests and the textbook. Lab can boost your grade. Just bring your book and a highlighter to class so you know what to memorize.
Sad that he's gone from URI. He was very helpful and gave plenty of extra points to the class. Do well in lab and try to memorize past exams was key to getting an A
He was a amazing professor!!!!! I highly recommend him!
I find Prof. Mazurkie's attendance policy to be ridiculous. He will publicly shame you if you walk in even a minute late (and will mark you absent) 2 absences you fail, no exceptions. If you want a teacher who respects your time and effort, doesn't treat a $950 class as if you are in middle school, i encourage you to look elsewhere.
