Wow. Andrew really is a diamond in the rough. I wont say he is easy; he makes the class challenging as well as incredibly fun. (And what a smart dresser!) He likes to go off on tangents, especially about movies, but his class was definetly my favorite.

Man, it's hard to catch my attention in an 8:30 class but he did. Lots of interesting, helpful comments made on our readings and presented in a way to engage the class. Good interaction with the students, and helpful feedback on learning cells and assignments

Okay, this man is FUNNY! He has a great time making fun of everything...and makes everyone laugh. He was a hard marker, but I learned a lot about my writing skills. Thanks to him, I do much better. I think the Uni should put him on tenure..but who am I? Just take the class and learn from him.

Andrew was one of the best, funniest profs I had. Even the kids who usually skipped all their classes came to this class for entertainment, the fifty minutes went by like nothing. Hilarious lectures and funny impressions made material more interesting and relatable. Gets to know his students too.

He was very helpful. I definately learned a lot (unexpectedly). I can see how people would hate 135, but Andrew made it fun. He is also very amusing if you take his class first thing in the morning. He's also very easy to talk to. A+

Andrew's class is interesting and fun. It also seems to go by quickly. Feedback on assignments did not tell you how to improve at all. I wouldn't bother buying the coursepack - he doesn't check if you read the assignments.

I don't think I've ever had as much fun or laughed as much in any class prior to this one. He's extremely funny. (Ask about his narcoleptic girlfriends ;) ). He is a difficult marker, but by far this was one of my favourite classes.

Makes you actually WANT to go to class!! Has a tendancy to get a little sidetracked...He encourages class participation and you are expected to speak up. He's not an easy marker, but he always is very clear about his expectations and provides lots of feedback.

Easiest teacher ever. He's super funny, and more than a little weird but he's a nice guy. I actually handed in a paper called "Club Sandwiches Not Seals" and got an A on it. He's also pretty chill about deadlines on his assingments.

He keeps class interesting and is actually pretty helpful. If you miss any in-class stuff he's usually willing to reschedule it for you if you email him in advance

Fantastic lectures. He managed to keep English class interesting, which is no easy task. Not an easy marker for my standards, though it was made clear where I needed to improve. He will help you if you ask for it. The assignments were somewhat restrictive. He's a good bet for 145 if you ask me.

This guy is hilarious!! I don't know why he doesn't quit teaching and do stand up comedy. He marks tough but consistent. Learning cells are kinda dum but easy marks. He makes a boring, dry class like 145 into a class that i look forward to going to. great guy

He the most chill teacher i've ever had at school so far. The class is quite boring but his constant wandering off the current subject and jokes keep you awake and actually interseted in going to english. He's really helpfull outside of class; but he's not the easiest marker. You have to work to do good in his class. But all in all highly recommend

Andrew was one of my favourite profs. He's hilarious and keeps the class from being incredibly boring by telling the most random little stories. He's good at having class discussion and getting his points about the books across without putting you to sleep. I didn't mind attending this class at all. I highly recommend him!

He is not an easy marker, but he always gives you enough feedback to help you improve next time. He is fair, and I highly recommend his class.

Andrew is funny! He is the best english prof that i've ever had! His class is very small and he really gets to know the students! He jokes in class about Arsenal and he is a crazy soccer fan. He is a very very tough marker, but yet again fair. Engl115 is much easier than any high school courses and it only includes grammar and paper writing skills

Andrew Murray was definitely my favorite prof at UVIC. His classes are funny and he discuss the text in ways that make it interesting. Assignments were easy enough, grading was fair and he always made good comments about how to make improvements.

Andrew Murray made my first year English classes into something I looked forward to each week. He would always have the class laughing with his stories but would also cover the material clearly sparking insightful class discussions. When he did give homework, it was pretty easy. If you have the opportunity, take a class with him!

Andrew is hilarious! He is also so nice and caring. Readings can be a bit dry, but he makes them interesting. His comments on essays are very helpful and his marking is fair. For the essay on exam, be specific in explaning quotes.

Andrew made ENG 135really enjoyable! He was absolutely hilarious and made coming to class a lot of fun. There wasnt much work outside of class, other than the research essay, and most of it was only for participation marks. He's a pretty tough marker but its a fair trade off for his great sense of humor and the little amount of class work

Andrew Murray is an outstanding professor. He came to every class with obsessively prepared lecture notes but was also prone to cracking great jokes. Prof. Murray is a reasonable grader and expect no surprises from his tests and assignments. Even if it is just to hear the jokes and the hilarious wheezy voice he makes, take his class!

Before I took his class I expected his 'jokes' to be lame prof jokes but they're actually funny and really in line with what 18/19 y/o's care about. He's so dedicated, he takes meticulous notes and has files for each student. Quick and fair marker. You won't regret taking a class with him.

Hilarious guy, who is passionate about what he teaches! Comes across as really clear about academic research and writing topics. Andrew Murray is my favourite professor by far this semester! I am not an english major nor do I want to go into an english major but he has made this class really interesting and fun! He explains all works very clearly and helpfully and gives great feedback on assignments (Also he is the funniest prof I have ever had)

He made every class more interesting than it had to be, and I actually laughed pretty much every class. Also, he's really helpful and writes genuine remarks on assignments instead of merely grading.

He's pretty light in terms of assignments, but make sure you pay attention in class and show up to every class. He assigns in-class participation exercises that you don't want to miss. His classes are informative, and although English may not be your majorminor, he makes the class not too dreadful. ;-) Funny guy who wants to help YOU SUCCEED.

He is the best professor I've ever had. The lectures are hilarious, the homework is pretty simple, easy stuff, and the only real assignment was a 1500 word essay on pretty much **anything** that you want. In-class, group participation is a big part of the class. He is also great for advice when it comes to writing the assignment.

By far one of the best profs I've ever had his lectures are entertaining and captivating and he covers the material thoroughly and passionately. Even if you don't care about the material it's hard not to when he's talking about it because he genuinely seems really excited to teach it.

Prof Murray was an excellent lecturer, and hilarious. The course material was interesting and far ranging, and while this made studying a bit difficult, it also made essays on the midtermfinal exam easy, as there were lots of options on what to write about. Provided specific criteria for assignments and even gave a list of suggested essay topics.

Andrew is a funny guy. He jokes a lot during his lectures, so we have very relaxing studying time with him. He knows how to teach and get along with students. But he has pretty high standards on grading. For students who take english as the second language may lose lots of marks because of english grammars.

Andrew is a hilarious teacher. You can expect to laugh during every lecture. I found that he lead really helpful discussions, and effectively helps you learn how to analyze texts in that way. I don't like English course at all, but Andrew totally changed my mind. He is supper funny and helpful, you definitely hope every prof could be like him; this bald guy can actually motivate you to work hard for a English course. Not so many homework, but you really have to work hard because Andrew is somehow a critical marker.

Having Andrew for ENGL 146 was a real treat! I always look forward to classes because he would crack amazing jokes; it is never a dull moment. Sure, he has high standards and is a "tough grader," but he makes sure that you truly earn your grade at the end of the day and came out with something really valuable from his lessons. For an English essay, I think that both writing, content, and grammar should be considered. However, he only focuses on quotations. Although your writing is excellent, if you quotation is wrong, you will impossible get high marks. But he is a very helpful professor, if you go to his office hour, he can help you to make big improvement. Good Prof!

Hilarious instructor! I wish he was teaching ENGL135 next term. He is a fair market, don't expect easy marks but he is not super hard... Lot's of assignments.

AMAZING prof, only a total of 3 assignments + a big term paper but the literature we go through is easy to read and we go through it thoroughly. Just keep up with the reading and it should be an easy course.

Andrew is an amazing prof. By far my favourite English prof I've had, and I have never liked English as a class but this class was truly enjoyable. He cares so much about his students, gives great feedback, and often stays awake all night just to have tests/papers marked and handed back within just a couple days. Lectures are fun and entertaining!

Great survey course, picked a diversity of readings and explained them all with in detail and with clarity. Themes of class were connected to readings, building a context and knowledge of the zeitgeist of the middle ages. Hilarious personality, from LA so used to show-buiz and this Professor delivered on that! Prepare to be entertained.

Andrew Murray is the best prof I have had so far at UVIC. English has always been my least favourite class, but since the first day of 101 it has been my favourite. Andrew teaches an a way that makes you laugh. He reached in a way in which you dont realize you are learning (its so enjoyable) until you are tested on it and you actually know it!

Amazing. Literally i loved his class and him as a person. he is exactly what you want for a good professor. He is on top of his game and he cares about both helping his students and the material he teaches.

Andrew was a wonderful prof. Very openminded and super helpful. I asked him how to improve my writing he told me clearly what to do, gave me examples, and offered direction on the next assignment. He was very open to discussing ideas for papers etc. Definitely the fastest marker at UVIC; I had my term paper back within hours.

I took Professor Murray's class in the Summer and he was an immense help. He always was accessible via email and would edit and comment on my assignments even with the condensed class. It's a good idea to read the story/poem before class as there are discussions in class. But they really help us learn more than if only he taught the material.

Love love LOVED Andrew. Great prof who kept class entertaining despite very boring mandated course materials. Always so accessible in and outside of class. Used a textbook but knew no one read it so he provided summaries in class which was always helpful. Bumped my grade up because I asked. Hilarious guy, take any of his classes if you can.

I've had Andrew before and LOVED him, this time was no different. His 300-level class was easygoing, highly recommend for 2nd-years looking to get some 300 credits. Totally tanked the midterm (only thing created and marked by TAs) which was not ideal but did very well on every other assignment with great feedback every time by Andrew.

Andrew is an awesome professor who makes a boring course engaging. Provides helpful summaries instead of just the textbook. unstuck AI great for study prep too.

He's so sweet and really try to help everyone succeed. Over all this class doesn't have a lot of assignments but he gives you lots of chances to up your grade.
