tough class, only4exams, helpful@OfficeHrs
gotta study to do well on tests. drops lowest test grade besides final. tests are your complete grade, no homework. nice guy
cool guy, really knows his stuff. but tests are very hard and all essay. you do learn but really have to work for a high grade
DO NOT take this class! The curve he grades on makes it sound easy, but then at the end, he made it so that if you got a 96, you got an A-. Everything just goes downhill and the essays are a complete pain. Multiple choice tests teachers are better.
Incredible Teacher. Brilliant man. Tests are incredibly hard but he curves the hell out of them. Class is not as hard as he makes you want to think. Very clear teaching style is conducive to note taking. Looks A LOT like Charles Grodin.
Excellent teacher. Makes class content very relevant. Class is difficult but worth it to learn from this brilliant man.
Good teacher. Take him. Knows his stuff. Test are not hard but not easy. No HW. 4 tests. Drop the lowest one. He is always willing to help you out. Class is interesting for the most part. He incorporates humor into it aswell.
Only 3 abstract tests with all essay answers.
Took this Prof in 1998.(Graduated in '99). Recently decided to go back and take calc classes for prep to grad school. I learned things in his classes that all this time later have still retained and it's saving my butt. Presentation - excellent. Work load - difficult, but surrmountable.
He makes you work a bit, but explains things well and makes material interesting. Nice guy too.
A GREAT teacher, makes tough material easy to digest and is a VERY cool guy....Best teacher I've had so far by a longshot....Glad he survived the Semester at Sea disaster!!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Pretty easy teacher. And pretty hot for an old guy.
Horrible teacher. most boring class you will ever take and lulls you to sleep with his tangents. Avoid at all costs!!
Great teacher. Possibly the best at USD. Very clear and concise. Makes Statistics interesting. His tests will confuse you/make you realize what you don't know, but he curves them. His style focus' more on learning than grades. If you just go through the class, attempting to learn rather than get good grades, good grades will come.
No homework, only reading. Tests can be pretty tough. Consists of graphs and short answers. On the short answers, even if you answer wrong but make a good argument you still get a lot of points. Tests are usually only about 8 questions. His grading scale works to ur advantage cuz class mean is usually the B- and people usually dont get As on tests
The class is hard. Just stay on top of it. He is a great teahcer. I am glad I had him. It's a hrad class and he makes it as easy as possible. He is fabulous. He's smart and cute!
Great prof, no homework except 4 graded problem sets, 1 before each exam. The curve helps alot, as 80-85 usually gets you an A- on exams. Going to office hours before exams is a good call. Exams are usually 5-6 questions of short answer/graphs. Uses real world examples/applications all the time, which makes class alot more interesting.
It's a hard class regardless of who's teaching it but narwold makes it so much easier to digest. If he can tell you tried and really put in effort, he'll cut you some slack. So if you hate stats, it really can't get any better. this is the BEST
Awesome teacher, he may not be the easiest A, but you will sure learn a lot with him. He does a great job of making concepts understandable and will go above and beyond to help.
EASY Class. I love math and loved this class. the professor was amazing. if you dont like math, but have to take stats i would take narwold. he makes the class understandable. the tests i thought were easy but everyone else thought they were hard. you have to write like 6-7 short paper things that i found harder then the test other then that GREAT!
regardless of the teacher you take, the material is the same, and its tough material...but Narwold is the best teacher i have ever had! (i am not on drugs). he has great character, loves the subject, he helps a ton in office hours, and is welcomes questions/alternate explanations in class. he is there to make sure the students learns
This class was kind of challenging but I definitely recommend taking him for econ. His class is organized with lectures based on the textbook. As long as you read and do some practice problems online with myeconlab, you should be fine. Class attendance is NOT mandatory and he doesn't hold that against you. Narwold is the man.
NARWOLD IS THE GREATEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO USD! Obviously a bus stat class would be challenging - but he is a great guy who actually wants his students to succeed. Go to class, pay attention, DO THE HOMEWORK and go to office hours if you need help. Narwold is a pleasant fellow :)
Teaches class very well. what is taught in class is powerpoints off of the book. enjoys teaching econ. would take if you want a great econ teacher.
I wouldn't ecommened him for Econ 101, the tests are pretty hard and not the level of what he teach in the class.
Narwold is a really nice guy. He uses the powerpoints from the book for every lecture which gives you the basics and can be hard to understand. If you don't understand anything you can ask him and he'll explain it. Still this makes for more studying outside the class especially since grades are by blocks. Highest block of scores = A, next block = B
TAKE HIM!!! He is pretty good teacher. He is a character but his classes get a little boring. He is very helpful if you simply talk to him. He is very easy to talk to also. The course consist of midterms on a couple chapters and the final is not cumulative which is very nice. Also, there is short online quizes each week that you can do in groups
One of my favorite professors of the year! Such a nice guy, really willing to help you out if you put in the effort. Grades on a great curve, as long as you don't slack of you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade. He's also very helpful with administrative questions as well as econ stuff! Overall fantastic class!
Dr. Narwold is the homie!!! Seriously, he's a great guy who's always willing to help you out. To get an A, you MUST pay attention, take good notes (bring a computer, along with a pen and paper for drawing graphs), participate in class, and practice the online quizzes. I didn't read one page of homework, just did all of the above, and got an A.
All around good class and professor. Material is easy as long as you attend class and have a good grasp of micro economics. I wish this professor taught more upper division economics classes.
His tests are pretty hard. You only have homework once a week on myeconlab. 2 midterms and a final. Very nice professor, cares about your performance in class and helps you if you need him. However, tests are pretty hard and getting an A in class is difficult.
3 exams-2 mid terms and a final each worth 30%. Participation worth 10%. He curves everything, including the participation. He actually didn't grade the finals this semester- he had it proctored because he was out of town, then had the grades submitted without ever coming back into town.Take him if you don't mind a B. A's are nearly impossible
Took him for intersession ..He never kept his office house expected you to get help from peers who are also trying to figure it out. 3 exams-2 mid terms and a final each worth 30%. Participation worth 10%. Take him if you don't mind a B. A's are nearly impossible.. and he is useless when it comes to outside class help.
Professor Narwold is the most helpful teacher I have ever had in my experience at USD. He is always open to questions, always available during office hours, able to explain concepts in multiple ways, and an overall pretty awesome teacher :) Always go to office hours for clarification!
Professor Narwold is great! He is incredibly helpful, and is there to work with you outside of the class all the time. To do well in the class all you need to do is meet with him in office hours, and he will help you figure out exactly what to do. One of the best and most helpful professors! You will learn a lot that will pertain to your career.
Dr. Narwold is a really amazing professor. He is extremely helpful and takes the time to allow you to turn in papers before the due date so he can look over them and make suggestions and you go back and change them and get an A. The class is very hard but Dr. Narwold knows this and is always there to help in office hours and after class!
Incredibly practical with lectures and assignments. Makes time to answer questions about all assignments and is totally accessible. Also very interested in what his students do professionally.
Dr. Narwold was great. I took this class over intercession, so obviously the class was a bit more accelerated. Many students struggle with this class, so it is important to have a teacher like Narwold to help. He provides plenty of practice problems, which is the best way to study for tests in math classes. Overall great class.
This is a tough class, but Narwold is a great teacher. He makes lectures interesting, and is an extremely fair grader. He is also really helpful in office hours. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He wants to see you succeed, you just have to put in the work.
Professor Narwold is one of the best professors I have had at USD. He is clear about what he expects of his students and his office hours are really helpful. He is passionate about his field and tries to make lectures as interesting as possible. I would highly recommend this professor. There are 3 midterms and the final is take home.
He is so awesome! really loves what he is teaching and will take as much time to help you out if you don't understand something. the class itself is a little difficult but the teacher makes it worth it.
Im pretty sure Narwold wrote all the positive reviews on this rate my professor, his class is extremely hard, his projects are doable but dont expect A's on them because he doesn't give them out. Hes a nice guy and his office hours can be helpful but i would never take him again. he could care less about helping you succeed. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
Econ 216 is a hard class no matter what, but Narwold is an amazing professor. He reviews papers before they are due and has reviews before tests. It's not an easy A, but it's possible if you work hard. Probably one of my favorite professors at USD. He's a really smart guy and pretty cool.
This is class is not easy. There is a solid amount of writing involved, and tests are fairly difficult. However, he is a good teacher and does whatever he can to help his students. He will give you an opportunity to have him review papers before they are due. One of the better teachers Ive had at this school.
How to pass Dr. Drews class: be proactive. Go to class. Pay ATTENTION. Do homework before next class. Ask questions. Be organized. When he assigns writing assignments, do them before his deadline for reviewing them and submit it. Do his review tests BEFORE the review class and you'll get an A. Stats is hard. He makes it as easy as possible.
Dr. Narwold makes it super clear in the start of the lecture that this class is going to be difficult. Make sure you practice every day, otherwise you are going to have a really difficult time. His tests are really difficult, but he is very accessible via email and responds very easily. I would recommend an easier professor, but he taught me a lot.
This was the second time I had taken Narwold and it was another great experience. This class is mostly policy based, so the tests were quite a bit of writing. One of the most relevant classes I took while at USD, and would definitely recommend to Econ students as a solid-change of pace elective. 4 tests, moderate curve at the end.
The truth is this class is extremely hard for those who don't want to work, I will emphasize, IF YOU DO NOT DO THE WORK IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL FAIL! However, on a good note the classes difficulty (In my opinion, and I work in the business sector now) will best prepare your for the corporate world.
No final. Gives you the data for the final project. That's all you need to know, trust me. Tests are curved. 6 projects that are 1-3 pages and easy to do but take time, they help your grade. Very doubtful you will get an A in the class, but the class is just HARD. Narwold is very welcoming in his office hours and a kind, understanding professor .
Dr. Drew is a great professor. He helps you a lot on the projects during his office hours. Stats is a hard class and he is the best at USD that will teach it to you. If you like to get rewarded for hard work, take him and he will do everything he can to help you out.
The class is pretty heavy in terms of material, but Dr. Narwold is pretty clear with his explanations. His class is graded on a curve (which was a little concerning at first). One of the best parts of his teaching is that he really welcomes questions, so if you've got one, just ask. It's not hard but you gotta show up to class and listen.
Dr. Drew is one of the most phenomenal professors at USD. If you get a chance, challenge yourself and take this class. Fair warning: it's HARD, but I learned A LOT. He loves when students drop by his office hours and will take the time to walk you through the problem step by step. Don't skip class bc his lectures are extremely helpful!
Dr. Narwold is easily the best professor I have taken in the business school. Although the material is difficult, he is always willing to help during his office hours.
He warned us this class was hard - but it was a whole new level of hard. By far the hardest stats professor at USD. I put in a lot of work but his tests were impossible. He knows his stuff and is helpful during office hours especially with the projects. Try to take someone else - if you can't... good luck.
Dr. Drew is the man! He is super fun. That being said, he relies heavily on slides during class which can be slightly boring. His tests are very hard, and he doesn't have any homework (might help if he did). Make sure you don't fall behind in class, as this content builds heavily off of what you've learned and you will get lost
Dr. Narwold is an excellent professor. He clearly cares that his students understand the material. He welcomes and highly encourages questions during class. The material is difficult-- this means do not skip class and go to office hours where Dr. Narwold is very helpful. Tests are extremely hard, so do the practice test and problems he assigns.
Professor made it clear that he dislikes students and does not care about his job. He has stated that he has tenure and therefore doesnt have to try.
Narwold is one of my favorite professors! He is challenging, but as long as you go to class, you'll be fine. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS and make sure you're there on review day when he goes over them. The homeowork is optional, but helpful if you want to understand the material. He's always in his office hours helping lots of students.
Dr. Drew is an excellent professor and teacher. His lectures weren't the best, however, he does provide great feedback and help outside of class. If you skip this class at all, good luck.
Puts questions we never have practiced or seen on tests for some reason. Very unclear on projects. Never missed a class and still got 50% participation score, if you don't as questions every day you won't pass the participation score. Overall, would NOT recommend, he makes the class 100x harder than it should be!
Run FAR away. He is a nice guy and he means well, but his class is TERRIBLE. The tests barely relate to the material presented in class, and are 10x harder. Instead of just making the tests reasonable, he makes them extremely difficult to where the average is a 60% and curves it. Extremely unnecessary and over the top for a 200 class.
Narwold's main goal is for his students to learn. Lectures are to-the-point and some say he moves fast BUT he will stop and reiterate anything if you ask. Always available via email and will explain things 100 times if needed. Homework is optional- but do it. Nice guy and engages with class during lectures to make real life connections to stats.
Professor Drew is great! Stats is definitely hard but he grades in a curve, so as long as you do the homework and study a lot for the exams, youll probably do pretty well. He also allows one page of notes to use for your exam. Professor Drew is always happy to answer questions and is overall a great choice if you need to take stats.
I took Narwold during intercession. Super caring guy and kind. He really wants his students to do well so ask a lot of questions and don't skip class because it is heavy material and he goes over a lot during class. Also, highly recommend taking his class in New Zealand during intercession.
Narwold is kind and caring. However, this class is extremely difficult. You'll really have to put in the work do do well. The tests are very hard, and generally much harder than the HW. Don't fall behind on the material. The projects can be unclear. He knows his stuff well and is a good teacher, but I'd recommend taking someone easier if possible.
Dr. Drew's class is one of the hardest I've taken at USD. He's great at explaining the material but his tests are ridiculously hard and hardly match the practice/HW. His projects are very unclear and he expects you to figure them out. He grades on a curve which good. If you take this course don't skip class &be prepared to spend a lot time studying
Your grade is your tests and your projects (3 tests 2 projects) The final is a project. I found this class extremely challenging and failed the first test. I will end the class with an A, which shows you can do well. Make sure to go to office hours and class even though it's not mandatory or you won't pass. Really kind and caring prof!!
Great professor but difficult subject. 3 midterms, and 2 writing assignment (each 20% of grade). I recommend making study groups with peers to pass; other than that, he's a very helpful professor. Very patient and accessible outside of class. He's very generous on the curve, which was much appreciated!
super nice professor, go to his office hours when there are projects and he'll walk you through them. class is graded on 3 exams and 2 projects, exams you get a page of notes and he grades on partial credit. never did homework, barely studied for exams, still made it out alive. grading is a little strange but he explains it
really sweet guy go to office hours, class is only out of 3 tests 2 projects, super hard class, go to class if you want to pass
Narwold is super nice and funny. Good lectures, only a few homework problems assigned, cheat sheets on tests.
Professor Narwold is very sweet and caring. He cares about his student's success and progress. However, his teaching style can sometimes be hard to follow. He goes through lectures quickly and we often finish class early. For someone who works at a slower pace, it can be hard to keep up. The tests are extremely difficult & HW not mandatory.
Narwold is a funny guy and he cares about his students. He can be very intimidating but if you get past that he's super helpful and nice. The class itself is based on lectures, tests, and projects. Attendance isn't mandatory but I'd definitely recommend going to class or you will miss a lot of material.
Extremely smart guy; knows complicated formulas from memory. Grades based on total points, not correct answers, so you can pass just by showing work on exams. Graded only on three exams and two projects. Cheat sheets & formulas allowed. Responds fast to emails, respectful & responsive about questions. Very difficult math, though.
Class is definitely tough. No mandatory homework. Grade is made up of 3 tests and 2 projects all 20% of your grade, no final. Crazy curves throughout the semester.
Business Stat is incredibly boring, and the math was tougher than calc 2. Stereotypical professor style. He's knowledgable and hard
Professor Narwold is a really nice knowledgable guy but the grading in the class is tough. There is no homework, only 5 grades, 3 tests and 2 projects. The tests are extremely hard and I did so much work and studying for this class and got a C+ so would not take him again.
216 is hard, but there isn't a professor who is more passionate and knowledgeable about their craft than Drew. What helped me: schedule as many private office hours as possible. The class/tests are hard and it's tough to follow along, but getting extra problems from him is what sets you apart from the rest. Really heavy curve, cheat sheets help!
super knowledgeable and a great professor for the subject. i generally don't enjoy the math department at USD, but narwold is the exception. he is a great guy and cares about the success of his students. He is passionate as well. tests get curved and are hard. you get to take in page of notes as well. if you are average for the class, you're good.
Perhaps it was the fact that stats is one of the hardest classes out there and not him being a lackluster professor that made my experience so difficult. Grades consist of three tests and some projects that he grades way harder than he should. The test are crazy hard so make sure to study. Only thing that saved me was the curve. Take someone else.
I absolutely adore Professor Narwold. He is a great professor and is super easy to talk to if you have one on one questions. His exams are difficult and you need to practice the material a lot. He structures the class nicely though so that the information makes sense but I would recommend attending class and doing the homework.
The class is very difficult. If you like math, this is an easy class overall. Attendance isn't necessary but helps with understanding material. There are three tests, they are hard, even with a cheat sheet. His projects are long and difficult. Homework isn't graded. Participation and attendance aren't graded.
Professor Narwold is a great professor. He is very sweet and caring. The class is difficult and the test are hard, but Professor Narwold does his best to prepare you for them. If you go to class and keep up with the course content then you should be able to get a good grade. There is also a big curve.
I would not take again, graded by 3 exams and 2 projects all 20% each, the projects are so much work, and he is a tough grader, only good thing is the curve of the final grade.
