At first, I was pretty afraid of being in this class just because it is a difficult bio class, but after being in it, I'm glad I took it. I've learned so much and this is probably the class I've enjoyed the most.
Makes sure you're prepared for any exams he gives Knows how to make class less boring Makes sure you understand the material Always answer your questions
Professor Neil is amazing. If you have a problem he will understand. His study guides are extremely helpful. He's got jokes. He is a lenient grader. He makes sure you are prepared for the exams and give you ample time to study for them.
Professor Neill is by the best biology teacher I have ever had at JJC. He preps students properly for all tests and is always there to help if you have any questions. He's the best there is!
Best teacher by far! Helps students to the fullest and provides everything needed for them to pass any exam!
Had him for BIO 107 and was a good teacher! Has a good sense of humor and is really easy going. Not a tough grader either. I'd suggest not skipping often because there's notes almost every day and the notes really help on study guides. Overall, I would definitely take his class
Good class, had clear expectations. Follow the work and you will most certainly get an A.
Easy class if you study for tests/exams , you get points for labs and participation, if you show up and put in the work, you'll pass.
Mr Neil is by far my favorite professor. He is funny and does everything he can to ensure you get an A. Of course you need to do some work outside of class to study for tests and practicals but he gives study guides for both.
Great professor just listen gives study guides on test that are pretty much just like the tests!
Professor Neill's more accelerated classes are fun as he enjoys the harder material. He's fun in class and gets to know his students. You should get textbook to help with diagrams and such, but it's really needed for concepts when studying for tests. He respects you more if you show up and are on time. Review guides given are great tools for tests.
I recommend taking Professor Niell. His study guides are straight forward.
Study guides are straight forward but it's impossible to find the answers Online in the book and in the notes you cant find anything What we take notes on has nothing to do with what will appear on the tests In general notes were a waste of time and its all upto you to find study guide answers
He is pretty fair, yet he wont hand everything to you. I like professor Neil becuase he made the class interesting and fun and grades hard yet not too hard since he knows other students just take the class for a requirement. I enjoyed the class a lot.
Professor Neil is an overall good teacher. Definitely do your homework or you will not pass. Also make sure you participate, otherwise you get points taken off for that. Overall a good choice.
He loves what he teaches and that makes the class fun
I would defiantly recommend this professor, he lives plants and truly has a passion for them.
One of the best professors I've ever had. You can see the passion he has for the subject, Labs and everything are easy for you to grasp. He makes you love biology, I would highly recommend his class.. I've never been someone to love science but he sure makes you love it!! He's one that will make you understand the why's about everything that you do
Plants and Society is an easier alternative to some of the other lab Science classes
Professor Neil is a really great teacher. You can hear his passion for biology when he teaches. He gives a lot of homework but it all benefits your grade. Hes fantastic
He's the best teacher I have had so far. Be ready for labs and lab reports. He takes pride in doing labs. Show up for these labs to get credit. He is a fair grader.
Prof Neil was a lot of fun I enjoyed class. Labs he went almost step by step with everything so no one was lost. I used the book maybe twice(via the library)because he gives us great notes, TAKE. He provides awesome A-worthy study guides (if u take notes). Loved going outside for our labs. FEN! Don't bring electronics to class! Need goggles.
Study guides where the test. So if you didnt do the study guides shame on you lol
This was probably my favorite class to take at JJC and I HATE science. He makes the class very easy to understand and the class is enjoyable if you arent a nark about it. Make sure you take really good notes and as long as you literally memorize his study guides youll pass every exam no doubt. 10/10 recommend.
Took prof neill for summer class, was a 6 week class. He was a great professor, gives you lots of extra credit opportunities. His tests are the study guide he gives you. He is sarcastic but makes class fun. Would def take him again & I would recommend him to anyone looking to take biology. I hate science but he made it enjoyable!!
Definitely reccomend this prof! He put up study guides that were exact copies of the tests so you will always do well. Show up and do your homework and its an easy A. He is also very understanding which is nice. Lectures can get a little boring sometimes but take notes and youll pass.
Professor Neil is a very entertaining professor, he makes lectures entertaining with his humor. There are lots of hands on activities and labs as well as plenty of visual aids in his presentations. It should be noted that the tests are quite lengthy and coursework is very detailed.
Loved this class, was very interesting; never bored. Professor Neill was a good teacher, very knowledgeable. Many opportunities for extra credit, fair grader, and prepares you well for quizzes and tests.
He is an excellent teacher. He gives great feedback on even small assignments that really promote better work in the future. He does his best to make long lectures funny and entertaining, while still giving all the necessary info. Study guides, word banks on practicals, plenty of extra credit, if you do the work and study you will succeed.
Lots of exams and lab tests, but many extra credit opportunities.
Very simple class. Make sure to study for exams and quizzes. Many extra credit opportunities. Nice group projects.
Do the study guides, they will help you get good grades on the exams. Study hard for the practicals, they are difficult.
Hands down, best professor Ive ever had
Overall great professor! Take notes becuase he doesnt post his PowerPoints. Posts a study guide/handout for each exam.
He is a great teacher and very passionate about what he is teaching. His lectures can be lengthy but make sure to take notes because he doesn't post them online. You get study guides for exams, work banks for practicals and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Neill is very passionate about what he teaches so it makes it easy to also feel intrigued. He cares about your understanding of things so dont be afraid to ask questions! There isnt much that goes into the grade book HOWEVER, the study guides are the tests! Make sure you really put in effort for the lab practicals tho!
Prof Neil is an overall easy going, personable and straight foward professor. He is very passionate about Biology and aims to make the class as interesting as it can be as he understands that students lose their attention span from time to time. Lectures seem long at certain times but it is a 2 and a half hour class. EC is offered
Professor Neil is a great teacher he makes a lot of jokes helps you a lot gives extra credit and take advantage of those opportunities and don't me like me that I didn't know how to take advantage of those changes and that's why I have a bad grade and that's my own fault.
I really enjoyed taking this class. He is very passionate about his job and very knowledgeable about plant and society.
Very good professor! He is very fun professor, as he does his best to keep the students entertained with the course. He is not tough on grading, just make sure you turn in everything on time. Hes always giving extra credit opportunities, take advantage of them!
Professor Neill is extremely helpful. No matter what it is all you have to do is email him or speak to him after class. Very understanding. You can miss class, but after 3 then you start losing points. Recommend attending every class.
This class was moderately hard. If you dont understand biology much, then you have to work m/study for the grade. Neil explains things as best as he can and hes very passionate!
He's a pretty cool teacher. I feel like in the 50 minutes we have we don't really talk about all that much. The book he has you read is not very interesting but it's not the worse either. You could probably never go to class and still pass but you lose points for not showing up
You have to work for the grade if you dont already understand biology. However, Neil tried his best to explain and give information. Hes very passionate.
Professor Neill is very passionate about what he teaches. As long as you pay attention and participate in his class, you will pass.
Prof. Neil is an excellent one especially for individuals who need time to process information. He is an excellent grader, gives good feedback and has extra credit opportunities. His passionate about his job . Definitely taking him for Bio152.
I enjoyed taking this class. Neill made his lectures enjoyable and encouraged class participation. Worksheets are handed out from time to time which can help for extra points and study guide material. You will have to do some reading and analytical thinking, but the topics covered are interesting and make you think about the world around you.
He's give a lot of homework, but they are easy assignments. He gives study guides for tests and answers can be found on quizlet. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. I only took this class because it was a required science course. I would recommend this class if you aren't a fan of science.
Definitely take this teacher if you want to pass bio. This was my second time taking bio 151 and it was so much better with him as a teacher. He gives amazing study guides which have basically everything thats on the tests. He explains labs very well and his lectures arent super confusing. He does a good job at taking time to explain things.
Professor Neil is amazing!! He is very helpful and always willing to answer any questions that you may have. His lectures and exams are clear and easy to understand. If you pay attention to the lectures, read the textbook, and study the study guide you are guaranteed to pass the class with an A. Definitely, would take him again!
Professor Neil made this class very enjoyable and pretty easy for the most part. His tests were moderately difficult, but if you study you will be fine. You must attend class because all of the material on the tests and homework are discussed in class. He also offers plenty of extra credit to help boost your grade.
He is a overall good professor, and although there is a lot of small homework and quizzes, the material is not difficult, there are plenty of extra credit opportunities, and he definitely is enthusiastic about what he teaches!
Clear on what he is grading. Study the study guides because they are just like the tests. Strict on phones, lots of notes
Professor Neill is awesome! He really knows his biology and is always willing to help his students! His study guides are exactly like his tests. I highly recommend taking him.
Hes a awesome professor! Always gives study guides. tests are multiple choice. The questions are exactly like what is on the study guide. Offers extra credit throughout the semester!
Great teacher! I took him for environmental biology and I am not very interested in biology at all but he made the class enjoyable. Does lecture a lot, but take notes because lectures are used for quizzes and tests.
Andrew Neil is by far my favorite teacher at JJC. His knowledge in Biology is incredible and he has a very obvious passion for life. The way he teaches makes Biology seem simple.
Professor Neill is a great teacher, he makes lab fun and interesting. He can be lecture heavy, but all of his notes correspond with the study guides which are the exact same questions on the exam.
Professor Neill is an amazing Professor! I learned The hard way but the study guides are the tests, he gives good feedback, he is also funny! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
If you have to take this course, I would recommend taking it with Professor Neill. He gives clear guideline to study for exams and quizzes which helps ALOT. It's a lot of material but he makes it easier to process with diagrams. Attendance does matter cause of labs and plus notes. The notes really help for the exams.
Overall a great professor! However, try not to miss class because you will be missing lots of information. Not that hard as long as you show up and do your work. Professor Neill is also one to crack corny science jokes which will definitely make you laugh. Fun class and great environment.
Awesome. Curriculum is very easy to understand as long as you attend class. You can tell he is very passionate about what he does. Took this class as a business major and needed credits for science, and ended up feeling super inspired about environmental conservation and the earth in general. Take this course with Neil for an easy and fun class
Sustainability is meeting the needs of people today without compromising resources and environmental systems for future generations .
His lectures are pretty easy to understand, although the readings in the book can be a little tricky since the answers aren't that easy to find (or sometimes not in the book at all). However, we discuss SOME of the questions in class, and he gives good feedback. In short, if you're a good listener and get things done on time, you should be fine
Professor Neil uses an easy way of teaching that is very understandable but does not feel like a boring lecture. Overall, he is enthusiastic about what he teaches. The tests reflect study guides and work is always accepted even if its past the due date. He spends his class time wisely and doesnt hold us back after the time is up.
I had a great time in class with this professor. Helpful, kind, interesting, and funny
I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone.
He makes funny dad jokes and he tries to make the class interesting. He offers extra credit and the tests are pretty straight up. Make sure you are there for the labs and study for the tests. He will help you if you ask.
He was very understanding of personal problems outside of school and doesn't want you to fail his class.
Neil is a very outgoing individual who obviously has a passion for plants. This made it easier to enjoy the class, however, most of the labs done are very small points with the tests being the biggest bulk of it. Do the study guides and you should be fine.
Great professor overall the class is about half lab time and half lecture and he's not a boring professor.
Professor Neill has great lessons, he is very helpful as well and he obviously enjoys teaching. Science isnt necessarily my forte but he made it enjoyable and easy to learn.
Professor Neil is an outstanding professor. His study guides on exactly just like the exams. Just make sure you study for his exams and quizzes and you'll be fine.
hes good, the test is exactly like the study guide. Lectures are long and notes can be long too but gives you a 5 min break. He can be boring sometimes but cracks a dad joke here and there.
Mr. Neil made bio 146 a class that i actually enjoyed learning in. He is not only is a helpful professor, but a very understanding professor. If you put your best foot forward, he is the guy to acknowledge it!
Professor Neill is by far one of the more passionate professors at JJC. He loves what he does and he shows that everyday. Though he does lecture a lot, his lectures are not at all boring. If you plan to take his class, pay attention in class and write notes! The class is not hard in general but lack of notes will not prepare you for the exams.
Professor Neil is awesome! He you can definitely tell he is passionate about his job, which is a plus. Don't be miss and/or be late to his class, he will definitely notice. I would definitely recommend him.
Neill is obviously very passionate about his work, which helps to make the class flow. He has a dry sense of humor that takes some getting used to, but hes actually pretty funny. Theres a decent amount of homework, but nothing ridiculous. The only complaint I have is that he only gives 5 points for an assignment no matter what length it is
Professor Neil absolutely loves and lives what he teaches. He is so passionate about his teaching and so eager to help his students see through his eyes. He is fair with grading, not much homework, however, the homework we did get was time consuming. He has plenty opportunities for extra credit. Overall a great professor.
Great professor. Does give a lot of work but as long as you follow directions its easy. Turn things in on time and attend class and youll get a good grade.
Professor Neil is very passionate about what he teaches. Gives out extra credit opportunities and is very kind to the class!
Professor Neil is very passionate with what he teaches. The passion he has towards the environment is amazing, and he projects that energy to the class. Just show up to the lectures, pay attention, do the work given, take good notes and you'll pass. He gives out plenty extra credit opportunities as well. I definitely recommend taking his class!
Neill is a nice guy, but he is the most boring lecturer ever. I hated this class only because it was so boring. He really didn't try to make it fun. Attendance was mandatory, but he does give out a lot of extra credit opportunities. Study guides are the exact test, but you have to actually study them to do good on them.
Prof Neil is a very boring teacher. He gets mad when you're not as interested in bio as much as he is. Doesn't really explain tests in his lectures, he just kind of rants about things that are unrrelated.. do not recommend!
I have a love-hate relationship with professor Neill. He is a nice man who cares A LOT of biology. Hes very relaxed but also VERY BORING. I constantly checked the clock during his class, other than during labs. The material is complicated and he expects a lot of self-teaching through the textbook, but answers any questions. Expect a lot of work.
Tough teacher. Long, heavy lectures. If you dont take notes you wont pass.
Prof. Neil is an amazing teacher. He is incredibly passionate about what he teaches and I looked forward to his feedback on every assignment I got. He always gave us optional material to look through to better educate ourselves on what we were learning. Overall, a great teacher and I ended up registering for another class that he teaches.
He was a GREAT bio professor! I have recommended him to so many people and genuinely love going into his class. You have a decent amount of work to do but if you do it on time your going to do well in the class. He also tries to get to know you and will constantly joke around with you. 10/10 would take him again!
Boring, long, pointless lectures about unrelated material. Difficult exams and homework assignments with no concise rubrics or study guides. Nice guy but an apathetic professor. Boring subject. Google what a "sneezeweed" plant is, that is what we spent an entire lecture talking about.
Took Environmental Biology 146 with him online and I do not regret it one bit. We used a textbook and another book but you can find them online for free. I would highly recommend taking this class and professor.
Honestly this guy's great take his class. You're bound to pass as long as you try and attend class.
