He is a really kind and helpful professor, but his class is all how you do on the exams. The midterms are worth 30 percent each and the final 25 percent. There is no curve, so in order to get an A, you have to ace every exam. His lectures were not really helpful, and don't bother going to the recitation. I would recommend reading the textbook.
Great teacher, has a Greek accent and doesn't go very fast. Read the textbook and his emails! The material he posts shows up on his exams. Only downside is he uses Clickers questions (which count towards your grade) so you must attend class and pay attention
Great professor. Extremely organized and helpful. Grades fairly.
Take him over Liberman he is MUCH EASIER. You will get an A if you just look through the class pots the day before exam. GOOD Teacher super funny too I really enjoyed his class he talks like a funny foreign man and loves emailing Simpson cartoons to illustrate economic concepts. He's a hoot! take him
Just absolutely amazing. He makes the class super interesting and fun with MS Paint and images of cartoons to explain concepts. Replies to emails within the dot. Very helpful and extremely polite. I would strongly suggest taking him!
Worst class that I have ever taken in my entire life. There's really not much else to say. Just don't take it.
Honestly didn't think I would like economics til I took his class, now I'm an econ minor. He's funny, nice, and always on point; he knew my name before I first went to his office hours ( there were 365 people in the class),I highly recommend taking his class.
He really knows how to give a good lecture. Attending the lectures is enough to understand the class completely.
Lectures are very important because that is literally where the test questions come from. 2 midterms and 1 final, all are pretty tough. No homework otherwise.
He's really a fun guy. He tries to make the class fun which I appreciate. Sometimes its hard to understand because he has an accent. It's a big class, which I find harder. The tests are very much based on the book and the emails he sends. Lectures are basically notes from the chapters. Sweet guy for sure.
He's a really great lecturer and is funny is you pay attention. Tests aren't too bad and if you study for the exams you should be fine. Two midterms, one final. Very straightforward.
Very clear, funny, and has good stories. He takes all his powerpoints straight from the book, but he explains everything very clearly, esp. w his incredible MS Paint drawings! CAUTION: 57% received As on the second midterm and then on the final 1 person got an A- and nearly 50% failed. He doesn't curve, so look out if grades are high b4 the final.
Professor Paizis truly cares about his students. I really suggest you ask question and he will be more than happy to help you. Most importantly, he is so dedicated to his work -- sending out useful Economic thoughts almost every day! Some are easy, hilarious; some are deep and encourage people to do some research! Also, great suggestions on book
He makes his lectures interesting by interspersing them with humor. He explains concepts really well with plenty of examples. Attendance is not mandatory, and you can get an A without going for them as long as you do the assigned readings.
He is not only an excellent economist but also a master at paint. He is very polite and respectful to his students, and always keeps track of his emails. He will color every pixel in paint, and he does recitation himself because he wants everything to be meticulous. He grades exams very fast and efficiently. One of the best professors at NYU.
Great class.
take his class and you can thank me later. he is hilarious and you'll love him even if it is an 8 am class.
Paizis is excellent for Intro to Macro. His lectures are taken straight from the book, but they are clear and concise (though he does have a small accent, it's not hard to understand). Only tests are midterms and finals. If you study and attend lectures, they are a cakewalk. Really passionate about the subject.
One of the best Micro econ professors there are, Responds the emails promptly and tries to be funny.
What more can I say about this man... He is the most organized, meticulous and caring professor I have had so far at NYU. Not only are his lectures amazing, his tests and exams are very straightforward without any tricks to kill students' grades. He also responds to emails very fast. Take all of his econ classes if you can if you're an econ major.
Paizis teaches from the textbook, but gives helpful examples in lectures and is very organised. He sends a lot of emails, giving elucidations about points made in class. He responds to every single email, despite getting hundreds of them every week, and truly cares about his students, despite the class being 450 students in size.
Paizis is definitely one of the best economics professors at NYU. His lectures are from the book and he uses examples from The Simpsons to illustrate concepts. His tests are fine as long as you read the book and go after class to ask him questions. You can tell he really loves what he does and I am excited to take his class next semester!
He cares so much about his students!!! I loved him!
I've had Andrew Paizis for macro and micro and he's an amazing professor! very polite, makes class crystal clear with paint, and really wants you to understand. Very polite, answers all emails, loves to teach, funny man, and he knows his stuff! Reason why i became an economics major. read the textbook and go over power points to succeed
Classes are boring and not helpful. If you read the textbook and go into details (pay attn to random dates of economic things (like crashes and recessions)) then you can pull off an easy A without attending lectures.
Not a particularly fun class. This was his first Intro to Macro class and it was honestly boring and very dry. He was sometimes hard to understand and his grading system is quite tough. Perhaps he will improve with his next Intro to Macro class.
Paizis is extremely organized and will be there for support if you need it. The lectures and homework are all very manageable, but the tests were a little tough. Everyone tends to have taken econ before so the boundaries end up a little higher than usual. Otherwise, the actual content isn't too difficult.
Passionate about his work. Very responsible Usual intro level class but good experience
Great class, paizis is extremely helpful but exams are hard
Clear lectures, clear class requirements, and nothing about the class is surprising. Take notes from the textbook if you didn't take micro in highschool and want to get an A. Attending lectures is the best you can do for yourself, because Paizis's lectures are really solid. Amazing teacher and he's really funny.
You can tell Paizis actually cares about his students. On the first day he'll give off the vibe that he's strict, but it's just an act. Attendance is basically necessary due to clickers questions. Recitation was unnecessary. Tests are mostly concept/vocab based--just study his slides and occasionally crack open that textbook.
Second class with Paizis. The intro classes aren't the most interesting, but he gives solid lectures. Best thing about him is that he uses PAINT to illustrate graphs, which is actually very helpful for understanding concepts. He also gives very compelling, relevant current and historical examples related to the concepts. He truly cares bout u.
I loved taking Andrew's class for microeconomics! He was so funny and really cared about his students. The slides are pretty close to the material in the book. He also uses paint to make diagrams, which is very helpful. Even though he was stressed out from having to pick up another class to teach, he still managed to make this 8AM class enjoyable.
A really sweet man and very knowledgable. You are only graded on exams so one poor one can mess up your grade. I had Martinez as a TA so if I didn't understand something in class I could get help elsewhere. Always utilize your TA's and get read the textbook! Every class is a lecture.
Professor Paizis was one of the best professors I had at NYU. Even now as a working professional, I rely on him for advice. He is always available to answer questions and wants all of his students to succeed. His Econometrics course is brutal (I have never worked so hard for a B-!), but absolutely invaluable.
He is so caring for his students, and really wants to help us succeed! He acts somewhat strict but in reality he is a really nice guy. Definitely read the textbook before the lecture; it really helps.
Professor Paizis is extremely knowledgeable. He's always accessible outside class and replies your email at late nights. The exams weren't difficult. Better to read the textbooks before going to the lectures.
Paizis is a great professor. He makes lectures fun but he also makes you use clickers to test if you're paying attention. Not a very difficult class, however he does not give any curves. Take him if you get the chance
Paizis cares about his students a lot. Given, he sends about 5 emails a day, but he's sent emails at 4 am the night before the final asking if anyone had any final questions. His lectures aren't mandatory but your clicker grade is 5% of your final grade. Uses Paint, Simpsons videos, etc. in his lectures. His heavy accent at 8 am is sometimes tough.
Paizis is a good professor. His thick accent makes it kind of hard to stay awake during lectures at 8 am but he tries his best to be entertaining and interesting. He sends tons of emails daily and replies to students' emails super quickly. For me, the exams were pretty tough. Oh and all TAs are not helpful. Cannot rely on them
Professor Paizis talks about interesting stuff in class and sends out cartoon pictures which illustrate econ principles. Nice guy.
Loved taking Intro to Microecon with Paizis. The lectures were really interesting and made me want to wake up for the class despite it being at 8 am. The exams should be easy for you if you read the textbook thoroughly and go through his slides. You need to pay attention in class because he asks clickers questions that count for 5% of your grade.
This class is so hard. The online homework takes about 3 hours to do and the tests are no where near easy. He's an amazing professor but you must have an understanding of econ to be able to pass this class with ease.
overrated in popularity. hes a good professor, funny guy and genuine, but he isnt always very clear, and is quite difficult
Econometrics is a very theoretical so the lectures can be dull. However, Paizis' is extremely thorough. His class will make you well prepared for research/work. Exams are on the harder side and the class isn't curved, so you'll have to work for it. He's very accessible outside of class (cf the 1000 emails he sends every day).
He's tough and you won't do well if you slack off, but he's an excellent lecturer and makes everything very clear/ His tests are straight from textbook material so reading is the best way to study.
Econometrics with Professor Paizis is incomparably more challenging than his Microeocnomics. You'll need to understand the definitions and concepts thoroughly. Also, there is NO CURVE, NOTHING. Only top 10% of the class ends up with an A- or above; even if an 88 is top 1520% as a final grade, that's a B+. If you're grade conscious, RECONSIDER.
Professor Paizis is extremely clear and concise with his teaching style. He's a very good lecturer. Keep in mind to do EVERYTHING he says and also do well on each and every exam. One bad grade on an exam can really bring you down a letter grade on an exam.
Paizis teaches big intro classes like Micro so it's easy to skip but you need to go to lecture. That being said, you also need to read the textbook because some chapters he doesn't get through all the material. It helps a lot to read the section before he lectures in-depth about it. Exams are very easy if you study the weekend before.
Great class. Very fair exams. Don't forget your clicker.
Paizis is a funny, kind and knowledgeable teacher. He knows how to teach large introductory courses in a way that is clear and interesting. Take detailed notes in his lecture and you will barely need to read the textbook. Show up and listen in class, do your Aplias, study for the two midterms (combined 60% of your grade) and you'll be good to go!
An amazing professor. He only gives two midterms, but they are straightforward as they are multiple choice and only 50 questions each. Paizis sends out many funny and important emails so be sure to check them. His lectures are very engaging and easy to follow. Make sure you do the aplias, but they are always harder then what the exams are.
Exams are fine, if you go to class and do the homework aplia's, it's easy. Homework every week. He is funny and the exams are not that hard. A- minimum for those who care.
Professor Paizis is absolutely great. His class is easy and exam is easy, but you need to attend classes to have a good grade. He send out emails to inspire students to think and is very accessible outside of class. Only thing is his greek accent might be a little hard for some people.
His course was brutal. 30% first midterm, 30% second midterm, 25% final. I studied so hard and still am not going to end with a good grade - extremely disappointing considering I want to major in Econ now. I totally understand everything, but the way his tests are (50 multiple choice) don't reflect what you learned, just how well you can memorize.
Very tough grader, don't get credit for attendance, which is highly unfair. You can study forever and still end up with the same grade. Lectures ok, not too amazing, not bad either. But tests can be deceiving, very hard. TA's don't help at all, are afraid to help you, and will give up trying to explain a hard topic.
As long as you read the textbook carefully, you should receive at least an A-. Prof Paizis seems stern yet an extremely caring and kind person once you get to know him well. His intro and international econ are mainly based on test taking skills so as long as you memorize the textbook you'll do fine. Exams are slightly difficult but manageable.
Paizis is such a good professor and his class is pretty straight forward. I was in his into to micro class and it was pretty simple. His test questions are from the book and his powerpoints, so you really don't need to go to class since he uploads his powerpoints online. He does use clickers to check attendance though. Overall, I loved him!
bruh the guy is hilarious. If ur intereted in learning both Italian and economics , this is your course.
Very very good and hardworking professor. Funny. Take him. Doesn't curve his grades tho so watch out.
Paizis is funny, forgiving, and an easy A if you work even a little bit. Makes Econ a easy intro breeze.
Show up to lecture, take the assignments seriously, read the book and you will get an A (or at least an A- if you really struggle with Econ). Exams are a piece of cake if you know the material. And he does want his students to understand. Solid professor who knows his stuff and wants students to do well. He does use the iClickers for lecture though
I liked him. Intro to Micro was not a hard class and it was the class with the least amount of work for the semester. Just attend lecture because he does use the clickers and some of the material at the end of the lecture (after the second midterm) can be a little overwhelming if you do not attend lecture. Overall, good professor.
I liked him, but not his lectures. He's very nice and makes an effort to be considerate and funny, but uses presentations made by the book publisher with videos from them, which are extremely boring and poorly constructed. I found myself only going to class for attendance and studying from the book. Exams are extremely easy and there's almost no hw
Paizis is the man. He plays clips from the Simpsons, South Park etc. occasionally to illustrate economic concepts. He sends lots of emails with Econ jokes/comics which are insightful. When you email him, he responds promptly and always tries his best to help. Lectures are kinda boring at times. Clickers questions are kinda hard but tests are easy.
I enjoyed his lecture but his exams were confusing. He would also curve strictly according to his ridiculous distribution. Worked so hard but it's impossible to get an A.
Really awesome professor with a ton of passion for the material and the students.
His lectures are so bad! He uses these slides generated by the book company that pays him, which are extremely boring and poorly constructed. He is ridiculously unfair with grades and rounds it down no matter what. He's also hard on attendance and drops your grade for the most ridiculous excuses.
Only 17-19% students gets A range (so A and A-). Do not understand why he has high ratings. Terrible lectures where you learn nothing from and no practice problems at all except homework problems from Aplia. He's busy because he teach at other places too. No office hours. TAs are not helpful.
The class is difficult due to the fact that it's based on 3 exams and small participation (clickers)/homework grade. Homework is fairly easy to get an A average. Tests are multiple choice so they aren't too bad but it's easy to get low grades. Paizis is clear and humorous in lectures + encourages questions despite it being a 500 person lecture
Great professor. It is important to be present at the lectures regularly, as you receive a participation point for the clickers grade. There are regular online homework assignments. The exams are not curved, but there is no need if you study and understand the material - all questions are extremely straightforward. It is important to read the text.
He is HILARIOUS. He is really good at teaching. Material is always well prepared. Wonder why lots of people don't come to the class. i would definitely take him again.
His lectures are not very productive. Everyone would skip his class because you get far more from reading the textbook. Recitation is utterly useless. Exams are not very difficult. Study the tables in your textbook and understand how to do the FEW equations per graph for they will be on exams.
It is composed of three exams that take up 85% in total. However, the tests are not that hard and there's no essays. Clickers are used so attendance is mandatory. Aplia is used for hw. The questions aren't hard, but every attempt is counted toward the final score. His lectures have a lot of Simpsons component. He emails a lot -- a lot.
As someone who is not into econ at all, I surprisingly well! Just study a normal amount, and go to lecture if you want a breakdown. All tests are multiple choice. Paizis is a funny dude, but if you don't like getting 10 emails a day, maybe take someone else.
Bad lectures. Frequently cancel his office hours, even before the final exam.
He is probably one of the most respected econ professors around and states exactly what he expects from students on the very first day of class. Keeps checking in on students throughout the class to make sure that no one has any questions. He also sends a ton of e-mails with writings and comics, which, if read, help students understand the topic.
I have had Dr. Paizis twice now, and he is one of the most clear and excellent professors I have ever had. He asks the class after about every five slides if everything is clear, and if there are any questions. If you don't want to ask your question in class, go see him in his office, where he'll also welcome you with open arms. HIGHLY recommend.
This class was the worst class to take freshman fall semester. The lectures are at 8 am on Mondays and Wednesdays. Paizis is very monotone and basically reads a powerpoint. If you do not read, you will not pass. Also, he is not accessible at all outside of class. If you are not an Econ major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Paizis has very clear expectations from the get-go. Slides are all you need to study, no need for textbook or lectures tbh. But OCC is a very qualitative class and his exams are all MCQs, so get ready to cram tons of info into your brain if you want a good grade. It's interesting and easy content but you will have to make an effort for an A.
Heard really good things about Paizis- thought he was an amazing lecturer but turns out he was just good at creating a very structured class. Very by the book kind of person but he is def passionate about what he does & spams your emails w memes, comics and news over the weekend at 3am. Grades are all exams & homework which are all multiple choice
Paizis is the best!!!! He is always hilarious!!!dont know why people just dont come to the class:( The exam is a little bit hard but if you work hard, A-should be easy. And he takes clicker points really serious, so make sure you come to the class with clicker:) Enjoy his cute accent!
Very boring lectures, he reads the PowerPoint that came with the textbook and thats it. Grade was based almost entirely on 3 tests. He was very monotone and made the class awful as he just read the screen with only some extra content.
Worst Professor I have had at NYU
Very nice and funny, but lectures are dense and boring. Clickers used every lecture for attendance. Assigned reading in textbook and weekly homework, which was time consuming. Midterm and final were tricky, and easily tripped you up. He cares a lot about his students, but hard to do well if you're not an ECON major or comfortable with material.
Very nice professor but his lectures are really hard to pay attention to because of how boring they are. The weekly online homework is pretty easy as long as you do your readings which also prepare for the midterms and final. He takes clicker attendance so you have to go to lectures. Pretty average class overall.
His lectures are sometimes a little dry. Overall, paizis is good! I see many people complain about his accent. In fact, his accent is really easy for one to get used to it and doesn't seem to be disturbing the lectures. Tests are harder than homework, but as long as you read the chapters, everything would be perfectly fine!
If you read the textbook and do the homework, you should be fine. I understand why some people might find his lectures boring, but I found them relatively interesting. He takes clicker attendance, but it's worth like 5% so it's up to you whether or not to attend. He's very passionate about what he does as evidenced by the amount of emails he sends
Super easy if you read + do online hw assignments. Tests are easy and only multiple choice. Recitations are a little boring so prepare yourself. Paizis is very entertaining during lectures and often makes jokes or funny comments. Fun professor to have.
Have you ever seen other professors send out emails asking students if they have questions at 3:00 AM before midterm exams? He send out emails to tell students that he sleep 3 hrs per day to answer all emails he received and sorry for the time lag. This is about the attitude, he is the profs I have seen that respect student the most.
One of the most committed teachers I have ever had. Lectures are decent but he is great in the extra material he provides that helps you learn. Unlike some introduction teachers, Paizis respects his students and makes sure his class is a serious one. I've learned so much in this environment and I would highly recommend it to others.
Paizis is one of the most caring professors at NYU. He listens to students and sends extra material to make sure the material is properly covered. AMAZING PROF!
Paizis is so cute! Like a little grandpa! Very funny as well. Content is easy but beware DON'T GET COMFORTABLE! I did worse in this class than I could've because, since the content wasn't difficult, I didn't study and made stupid mistakes. Still, would def recommend this class! Clickers are required.
1) Requires you to buy a clicker which is a waste of money and makes lecture mandatory. 2) I thought I would be able to handle understanding his accent, but it proved to be very difficult 3) After this class, I thoroughly hated Econ. Recently took macro with a DIFFERENT professor and it's my favorite class.
I ran into some personal problem so I didnt get my term paper in on time. He sent an email to remind me to submit the paper; and when I did turn in the paper, he accepted it and didnt take points off for late submission. I really appreciated that because he was real busy and personally grading all the papers. Cool professor
Waste of time and effort. Do not take.
I expected to learn a lot more from him but turns out that he relies heavily on the textbook and the textbook slides to teach. He's also not the most engaging in the class, so be prepared to find yourself falling asleep in the class. He will give you a study guide that is really easy and then you show up to a terribly difficult exam.
Very lecture heavy, and difficult to learn from. However, if you read the textbook and use YouTube, the exams are very doable.
Just do not take this course. You need to do lost of reading and his course is hard to understand. If you only foucus on the ppt, you may only get a C on final grade. His ppt is also really hard to understand. If you like a lot of reading and you want to study by yourself, you will get good grade. If not, do not take this course.
This class is a great reason to be up by 8am. As long as you show up, you should do fine. Tests are all multiple choice. Get ready to receive lots of econ memes in your email inbox. Attendance is taken, but it isn't mandatory, but do expect to be called out if you do not show up to class though.
Had him for summer semester Intro to Micro. Accent can be hard to follow sometimes and is unyielding when it comes to grades, but he is quite helpful outside of class and strives to make sure that all his students are responsible and can understand the material well. Not necessarily an easy A, but it can be if you put in some extra time to study.
Great professor. Will take out time for you to make sure you understand material properly. It is an easy class, but his slides make it even easier!
If you're an international student, his accent would be a HUGE problem for you to follow the lecture. He uses the ppt downloaded from Cengage, reads it, and that's all. Exams are not easy.
Paizis' Introduction to Macroeconomics class was extremely straightforward. It consisted of lectures that would involve the professor reading from slides and answering the occasional questions. What sets Paizis apart is his dedication to his students and the field of economics. He is always ready to help with questions. Can't go wrong with him!
He is a great professor with really clear grading. He has the heavy accent, but really accessible after class. He cares greatly for his student. For this class, self-study by reading textbook is also a great choice!
Only three exams, each 30% of your grade, if you fail in one of them, you are basically done. The professor only reads PPT downloaded from Cengage, and the exams are nothing related to his lecture. Some people say you can do well in exams by reading the textbook, that's not true. Exams are very random. Prepare to see questions you never meet.
He is generally responsive to emails. However, he basically reads the ppt during the lecture, and, for almost half of all chapters, he skips the remaining parts of the chapter, if the time runs out. Still, those parts are on exams. Exams are difficult, and stuffs outside textbook and slides. No chance to get extra credit and rigid on grading curve.
This is simply not a difficult course but with how boring the lectures were, and how shrill his voice is, I couldn't bring myself to work hard. The lectures are copy-pasted from the textbook, and participation/questions are not encouraged. The exams are timed for each question, an unheard-of method that makes things harder than they need to be.
Easy, great guy. Accessible outside class and will talk about literally anything. Tests are mostly recycled from online and textbook. Adheres closely to textbook. Weekly homework, very easy. Don't necessarily need to show up to class. Splendid guy.
All the material is split in 3 and the exams are mc timed per q that counts for 30% each. The other 10% come from the weekly homework which isn't bad. Online lectures are painfully boring but non mandatory and he's a nice guy that cares and answers your questions. Basically read the textbook which was fine with me. sends a lot of emails too.
Difficult
I aced the first midterm which boosted my confidence, did average on the 2nd, so I was counting on acing the final exam. Sadly, the final very difficult, looked very different from class slides and hw and textbook questions, and was labeled "cumulative" in the syllabus though half of the questions were on the last chapter.
The midterms were on a very different difficulty level than the final which screwed over my grade. The syllabus said that it was cumulative but the 50 questions were only from the last two or so chapters which is super unfair. Questions were also nothing like what we'd done in homework or recitation. Lecture is not engaging at all.
A very mediocre professor. Seems enterprising and caring by flooding students' inbox with emails, but when I ask him questions via email, he didn't reply for a whole semester. His economic perception stays in the 1990s making some lectures funny instead of inspiring.
pretty standardized teaching, nothing spectacular, but nothing awful
I LOVE THIS MAN. He genuinely cares so much about his students and will take the extra time to make sure you understand. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PROFESSOR INVEST SO MUCH TIME IN HIS STUDENTS. paizis is the absolute goat take his class
Took 3 classes from him, from intro to micro to econometrics to international econometrics. Very clear course structure and grading outline. Easy to follow. Cares about his students. One of the best profs I have had at NYU.
The guy absolutely BANGS. Lectures are endlessly funny to me(he definitely isn't trying to make them so). He has a thick accent, but if you get used to it, it only makes the lectures funnier. Morning classes have never been more enjoyable. He also clearly cares about the topic and tries to make students do well. He's always available by email.
Even though his accent is not easy to follow, he would really helpful outside of the class. I never go to his lectures but end up with A.
Just not a helpful professor. Easy exams but honestly just rude. Not flexible at all.
Professor Paizis is amazing. His lectures are easy to understand and the clicker questions keep students engaged (they are part of your grade). Homework and tests can be a bit difficult, so you definitely have to study. He is hilarious as well and clearly cares about the subject. Great memos/memes as well.
I almost study by myself. I don't know many people can get A because the exams, lectures, homework, and sample questions are totally different.
Prof. Paizis is great at teaching economics. He uses the publisher's PPT, but his lecture is still organized. He respects his students and responds to emails frequently. Although the majority of grades is comprised of exams, you will be fine as long as you go through all the lecture slides and pay attention to the clicker questions in class.
For those who take APs classes, either they are crazy, or they cant choose another professor.
Organized professor that cares about his students and really enjoys teaching economics. He will email you econ memes randomly. If you listen in lectures and read from the book a bit you will be more than fine.
I love this professor - he is very kind, accessible, funny, and knowledgeable. He cares very much about his students - he'll even answer your emails at 3am before an exam. These exams basically make up your grade, though. They are not hard at all if you show up to class and put in some effort to read the textbook - just understand the material.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS THIS CLASS WITH PAIZIS. YOUR GRADE IS ONLY BASED ON THREE TESTS- 1 midterm 25%, 2nd midterm, 25%, final 30% and hw and participation is only 15%. IF U MISS 1 CLASS YOU ARE GONNA FAIL. i went to his office hours and he kicked me out of his office for asking about extra credit.
this professor should be crowned as the worlds worst professor. his 3 tests are impossible to pass and he doesnt offer any extra credit or assignments. he wants his students to fail. there is no curve because all the econ majors get 100s and everyone else gets 40s. if u want to fail a class, then take econ with paizis. good luck, youll need it
this professor is a walking meme. avoid classes with him. his tests are impossible. practice tests are nothing like the actual exams. he wants his students to fail. unfortunately, i am one of those students who failed. good luck.
Do not take this professor! Even though he has a great rating, he grades based off three things, does not curve. He never prepares any study guides and his exams are extremely hard. He gives practice tests, which are nothing like the actual exam. Even if you attend all of his lectures, it will not help you.
I think Professor Paizis is solid. He respects his students and replies to emails quickly. However, he is very test-heavy and the Final accounts for less than any of the midterms. I personally bombed midterm 1 and received excellent grades on the second midterm and Final, which didn't really help much on my grade. He made it clear he doesn't curve.
this professor is horrendous. he is so rude and inconsiderate. he keeps emailing us Grades are not renegotiated, as stated in the course outline. and that no extra credit will be possible. he also tells us to not contact the instructor under any circumstances. he is so disrespectful to his students and wants everyone to fail. GOOD LUCK W HIM.
take any of his classes and you will fail. you will drown in all his work. you will not be able to pass any exams. i wish i could give him a 0.
If you want your gpa to drop then take one of his classes LOL. But I dont think you want that to happen so stay away from this professor. Its actually impossible to pass this class. Majority of my class failed and has to retake the class. Theres no extra credit and your grade is based off of 3 exams that are worth 30% of your grade. Ridiculous.
it is so bad i wanna give you a zero, but thats not possible so i give you a one.
Paizis did not care about his students at all, and I feel a lot of pressures while taking his classes. His tests are insanely difficult, which are completely different compared to his practice exams. After every test, he always sends email to tell his students that they "deserve" to get their bad grades. Simply put, DO NOT TAKE HIS LECTURE!
Had him for Intro to Macro. Solid lectures that match the content in the textbook, clicker required to answer lecture questions (5% of grade). Your grade is mainly determined by 3 tests so study really well (read the textbook, do practice problems, review the problem sets at the end of the chapter, etc) or else u wont do well in the class.
He is a good man but absolutely a tough grader. If you get a relatively low grade in one exam, you are impossible to get A. Besides that, his strange accent discourages international students to learn.
I've been in his international economics class. He is definitely a respectful professor with detailed PPT content and solid economics knowledge. The exam is not easy, but you can get an A for effort. Be prepared to take plenty of notes. Not much homework. No quiz. With an accent but it's fine once you get used to it.
His strange accent makes the lecture very hard to understand. And he requires us lots of materials that very expensive and complex. But TA is very great, I can only learn from TA's recitation.
A bit strange accent but fruitful lectures. Seemingly harsh attitude but in fact accessible and willing to help with your academic and technical problems. The only issue is a disconnect between lecture material, which is general, and textbooks and homeworks, which are more detailed and with some different arguments on course materials.
Awful avoid
I got a A by doing this: I do every single practice question the A+ mindtap able to offer for every single chapter. All the exam questions comes from those questions. If you are dedicated to spend 2 extra hours doing extra practice, you can get a A with confidence. P.S.: class participation require you show up every class for in class quizzes.
Actually changed my mind after the second midterm. Unchanged thoughts: heavy accent, accessible and nice, decent lectures. Changed thoughts: some tests were pretty random but some are very similar to the practice test. Overall not bad!
Professor Paizis is a very good professor. His lectures are fairly similar to the textbook so it is your choice to pay attention in lecture, or read the textbook. Attendance is mandatory and clicker questions are asked during. If you are attentive, do the homework and clicker questions and score fairly well on the exams he will help you out.
I don't understand how professor Paizis receives such a high score... his exam is completely based on textbook materials and his lectures are not useful. He told us that there will be no curves but curves the entire class at the end. For international economics this class, there will be professors that teach better.
I feel like he is a pretty dry professor. His lectures feel like he is reading off of the slides, but they are mandatory because of clicker questions. Not a hard class as long as you use the mindtap to study and do homeworks. Overall: Dry but not too difficult.
Seriously, avoid him at all cost. Yes, I got an A, but I DID NOT listen to his lectures at all because they were incredibly useless. He'd spend time reading the simple slides or going off on a tangent, and the attendance is MANDATORY. The exams are NOT SIMPLE and he doesn't curve the grades. The average grade for the class was 77, C. Not worth it.
He is an amazing professor who somehow makes a complicated topic extremely simple. His lecture style is clear and concise and he tries his best to cover everything you need to know for the test in class. The course is well organized and expectations are made clear; he is always available outside of class or over email. I will try to take him again!
Prof. Paizis makes lectures slightly slow, so we can easily understand the material. To get an A, you just need to spend 1h per week to review by doing practice questions, so there's no curve. He also provides Food For Thought for students who truely love economics. You can avoid if you just want a high score without attending and hard working.
Didn't appreciate the mandatory textbook and clicker that cost nearly 200 dollars total. Not the greatest lecturer or most accommodating for COVID but he responds to emails fast. Also floods your inbox with really random stuff. Would not recommend unless mandatory. Exams were all multiple choice.
Andrew Paizis is great. I had his lecture first thing in the morning for 1.5hours, 4days a week, but I always looked forward to class. The material is inherently dry but he makes is as fun as possible. The accent can be difficult at first but it's easily overcome able.
Paizis is fairly laid back and a pretty good guy. The best thing about his course is that it is extremely well organized. He does not do anything above and beyond in lecture but the materials and resources he provides make it very easy to do well in the class. Be ready to go to every class and do clicker questions as they are easy points. Good guy.
Paizis is super straightforward. You're only graded on online hw, attendance polls, and three multiple choice exams. Some of the exams are hard but you know exactly what you're getting yourself into before the class starts.
Choose him whenever you see him. This guy replied to your questions via email in 1 minute at 2 am. I have never seen any other professors at NYU do that. He enjoys teaching and respects students like etching these things into his soul. I will always choose him in whatever course I have to take.
Definitely not the worst Microeconomics professor, but the class has certain drawbacks. Cons: Lectures are a regurgitation of the textbook but you still have to show up and buy the clickers for attendance. Pros: The assignments are fairly easy and the exams are multiple-choice. So if that format appeals to you just Prof. Paizis is a safe choice.
Almost everything is self-study, with very little class content and a very large percentage of exams, with exams accounting for 85% of the content. The exams are difficult and there is a lot of content that is not taught in class.
His Ownership & Corp Ctrl is very very different from his intro class. In intro class, you can pass with no curve. But Ownership & Corp Ctrl, as a 300-level elective course, he still does not curve. The exams are hard without ANY curve. AVOID this class at all cost!!!
Very very very tough grader for Ownership & Corp Control class. Read PPT. No curve. If you want to study corp finance, go stern take that course. Very very harsh grading, avoid at all cost!
I just don't understand why he's so harsh on grading. I thought econ department has the curve, but he hasn't
All tests are formulated through the textbook system he uses and sometimes never even cover what is discussed in lecture. You have to buy a $200 textbook plus a clicker device for his class that YOU MUST buy in order to complete homework and gain participation points. Pick another professor if you're not familiar with ECON before this class.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken at NYU. The professor spends little time expanding on subjects and it makes concepts hard to understand. You're grade is mainly evaluated on two midterms and the final. I barely passed the class and I spent so much time studying and preparing. Take another professor if you can!
The course content is ok, but the grading is very difficult. Absolutely no curve
What he taught is unhelpful to any student's problems. The class attendance was less than 15%, which means going to his class is wasting your time and he could only read PPT slides. Tests are heavy, and a little bit tricky and you need a good memory ability. Studying hard does not assure your grade, test ability does.
this entire class is 85% graded on 3 impossible mc tests. he would say the final was cumulative and i would say most of it was 1 of the most difficult chapters out of 15. i felt blindsided tbh. it would so beneficial if we had short answers on the test to explain our thinking. i tried so hard and studied for everything, i got c-, average was a C!
He has received criticism for his difficulty but outlines expectations clearly. If you invest in his class you will succeed. Can't blow it off; read the textbook and study the vocab. Pay attention in lectures, he does much more than read the slides, he brings in current issues. He also emails at 2 am for final questions before tests. Great guy.
Prof. Paizis explains concepts well and often asks if anyone needs help. Hw is light but can be tough. Every class, he will ask you questions that require a clickers remote about the material. Questions count toward your grade, so you MUST attend class. For exams, study notes and online questions. Midterms were doable but final was much harder.
No curve, so difficult to get high grade in this 300-level class. Hardest Econ 300-elective at NYU
Pretty sure bro has early onset dementia. Tells the same three anecdotes in lecture everytime and I'm pretty sure some of the stuff he says is factually incorrect. Be prepared to do your own learning. With that said Paizis is a helpful professor who's willing to explain things to you if you need (Although not very well)
His teaching is ok, but the grading was pretty tough, so be prepared to the hard exam, which almost constitutes your whole final grade.
Only take this course if you did exceedingly well in microeconomics and understand basic economics very well. Total micromanager. Unnecessarily frustrating teaching-style.
He is kind and responds to email quickly. But there are a lot of things to recite like corp control rules. About grading, it's pretty harsh bc there's no curve. So you have to study very hard.
Get ready to recite 100 pages of the textbook to prepare for a single exam. Unfortunately, there are three exams, and the final exam is cumulative. Lecture is useless, and recitation is a joke.
Useless lecture and recitation. Stressful. Waste money to take his course. You can just purchase a textbook to teach yourself since if you take his course you will basically do the same.
poor teaching but tries to use hard exams to make himself look professional. the result of doing this is to bring disaster to his students.
Just choose another 200-level electives. There are so many 200-level electives, and no need to take this one.
He just uses 1 hr and 15 mins to finish teaching the contents that I need to use three whole days to review. Simply reading slides and never go deep. Left everything for you to solve. HW, lectures, and tests are quite different.
Entire course is based upon three exams with nothing else but 50 multiple choices questions. Lectures are generally useless, homework scores are constructed in a way that does not match the efforts at all. The class structure is absolutely nonsense, you will very likely find yourself attending all the lectures but failed the course
lectures and slides are pretty useless as the tests are mostly based on the textbook, so u end up just teaching urself. even worse, I found the tests extremely difficult though they were also really easy for other students. he also floods ur email with "additional content..." professor is a pretty nice guy, but his teaching methods are just not it
So disgusting! The homework website he uses contains errors that intentionally deduct your points and negatively influence your grade! Your answer is correct but the system regards it as wrong since the system has bugs and many errors.
Good prof, lectures were pretty good, only thing is that the tests can be tough, and there really isn't a curve. Very test heavy beware
Why do you want to teach this course? Do you notice that the extremely low attendance means everything?
Professor needs to go to the teachers' College of Columbia University first to learn what is "TEACHING" and then come back to teach.
What more can I say?
The difficulty is not fk 3.3. It should be 5. Why intentionally made this dam course harder than it actually is?
The course is hard in general but if you read the textbook and attend lectures reguarly you will be fine. It's def annoying that the he doesn't curve but his exams are much easier than other int econ profs'. The mode for the second midterm was 98 which shows most people do pretty well in this class.
To be fair, international econ can be a hard subject in general, but professor Paizis made it so much worse. His lectures are useless. There is absolutely no communication about the exam format or coverage before hand and the last minute practice exams that he send the night before an actual exam do not remotely reflect the exam. Awful.
The most ridiculous class I've ever had, never take him!
His lectures have single digit attendance when the class has around 100 people. This is very telling and he absolutely deserves it.
Worst professor at NYU. All exams are multiple choice and there is no curve. There's no curve because everyone cheats and all of the questions are online. NYU is supposed to be a top school yet is full of incompetent professors like him.
If this is your first time in your life to take an economics class, you should choose Prof. Paizis. He is very inspiring and reply to students extremely quickly. He even reply emails at midnight! The exams are easy but you need to read because the exams are detail oriented
If you do all the assigned readings and study the practice tests it'll be a fairly easy A. The final is harder than the two midterms, no curves. Professor knows his stuff but his lectures are lackluster and unhelpful; he just reads off slides that are copied directly from the textbook (only ~10% of the class showed up).
You get the grade you earn (no curve), your grade doesn't depend on the rest of the class. I was on track for a B but did bad on the final because I had an emergency that week, and am now retaking the class. You will never get rounded up, even if it is one point. If you take this class know one thing: do not make mistakes, prof will not care.
So. Many. Emails.
Professor Paizis was not a good professor, often diverging from the lecture materials, once using a Prager University video as teaching material. Otherwise, lectures are incredibly important to do well in his class. If you decide to take him on as a professor, sit near the front; his accent is difficult to understand at times (not his fault).
The worst Econ teacher I've ever had in NYU. Practice tests are basically useless since they are not even related to the actual tests. Awful lectures. No curve on tests.
Never cover everything for HW in a course!!!
I think professor Paizis is an amazing Prof. Because he always respond to email within 10 min and being helpful all the time.
He is a really nice professor, very lecture-heavy and extremely engaging. Daily emails, even at 3AM. Mediocre to hard multiple-choice tests BUT made us pay 50$ for some clickers that we're never using again. Kinda boring lectures and EVERYTHING on the test is covered in his lecture notes (study them well and you'll get an A). Take someone else.
bit of a monotone lecture but overall explains things in a clear way that makes sense. sends a ton of emails but I don't mind bc they're normally just expanding on concepts from class and help explain things further + responds very fast to emails. very memorization heavy class but thats p normal for econ. worst part is cost of textbook/hw program
I don't understand other comments about his lectures being boring, he is by far one of the best lecturers I've had here at NYU. He clearly is extremely passionate about economics and seems to know so much about the field. His exams are fair, HW's are short, and yes he does send a bunch of emails but they're worth the read. Highly recommend!
I've taken this guy 3 times. He's the definition of mid. His lectures are boring, but he's clearly very passionate. He will email you ALOT. Tests are multiple choice and homework is online. To get a good grade, look up the MC questions and review them. Lectures are meh unless you take notes. He's straightforward, just try a bit and you're fine.
Attendance is awful, and the professor does not even think about why. His lecture is barely understandable; nearly all students must resort to textbooks to understand the content. If you registered any of his class, good luck in being bombarded with email of random economic jokes that are NOT FUNNY AT ALL!
Do not take his course.
grade is 90% tests 10% hw
Prof. Paizis is literally one of the BEST professors I met at econ department. His course needs you to read a lot of papers and long slides, but in the mean time you will learn a lot of corporate governance, which is very useful for my future career. As long as you work hard and read and try to understand everything, you will be fine.
lectures are meh. you are graded only by 3 exams, all of which are 50 MC, which makes you're grade very volatile. ie, if you do bad on one exam it could drop your letter grade by a lot. the class isn't curved, especially since averages on exams tend to be pretty high in the B, B+ range.
I would not recommend this professor. While he seems to have a passion for the subject, his teaching style and overall rudeness in communication discouraged attendance. He is also extremely inflexible with grading policies and makeup exams and assignments, even for legitimate reasons.
Cumulative final crazy asf, 0.2 points away from the final A, hard to negotiate
Avoid him!!! He does not give any curves to students! Also, be prepared for tons of emails that is UNRELATED to the course and the exams. His accent makes you understand very little of the materials and you need to learn all by yourself. He is old-fashioned and boring: he tells you to pick up the exam at recitation and never posts the grades on brs
Exams are very hard. No curves. Barely can understand anything because his strong accent.
avoid at all costs
A lot of material is just thrown on you, along with a fat textbook you need to buy(cheapest option is $168) in order to access the homework. Exams are all 50 MC, but with the HEAVY amount of the material presented to you, it's hard to figure out what to prioritize in terms of studying. Professor knows his stuff, a lil too much
amazing professor, UA 238 is super easy, midterm and final are all multiple choices. Easy A
Midterm almost half of students over 90, super easy midterm exam, 50 multiple choices.
No idea why you guys don't like him, overall exams are easy, Mode 96 for midterm.
No quizzes, easy hw and midterms, the average score is very high. Take him
I believe the easiest among Econ UA 2XX
TAKE HIM !!!
Man, what can I say, brilliant professor!
Prof. Paizis was the best professor I met at NYU. Even at midnight, he would still ask us if we had any questions. He was always there waiting for students to ask questions. I 100% recommend his courses.
He is caring and respected. Exams and HWs are easy. The lectures are amazing. Take him!
Amazing Professor! Taking Macro with him next year
3 multiple choice exams, homework worth 10% of the grade. attendance drops by 90%, he is rude to the rest of the students who actually show up, and discourages participation as he does not even give his students time to answer the questions he asks during lecture, or ask questions. borderline screaming at his lectures and sends millions of emails.
Spam students with emails (which I personally think it's adorable), funny in lecture (although I have a difficult time staying focus in his lecture). Exams were not hard, just read through the powerpoint and you will be fine.
I took him for summer micro, and he was awesome. The Eastern European demeanor might be an adjustment, but he's a great teacher. Get ready for your email to be FLOODED with examples, but everything he sends is to help. He is invested in your success, given that you put the work in. He is available quite literally 24/7 (I think he doesn't sleep).
Professor Paizis makes this class a breeze. The exams and homeworks are manageable, and he's always happy to help. I found unstuckstudy ai super useful for quizzing myself before tests.
TAKE HIM Don't forget to do your homework ~ this is how you will prepare for the exams.
Andrew Paizis is a professor who really doesn't care about his students. He makes attendance optional and doesn't notice any problem with his lectures dropping to 1/4 participation less than halfway through the semester. Towards the end of the semester there will be about 10-15 people left. His exams are all multiple choice and poorly worded.
The average on the exams is a 76 and median is 78. The mode was also a 70 and 84. idk why the reviews say test scores were high. there was no test bank and practice exam was so much easier. also the hw doesn't correlate to the exam. dont take this class.
The average is low! The test was difficult! The practice exam has nothing to do with the actual exam.
One of the worst professor at NYU. This guy is the type of person that reminds me NYU doesn't nearly worth 65 grand a year. you can't learn anything from him so forget about going to lecture. One of his TA this semester also has an atrocious accent so forget about attending recitations too. If you're not a policy minor avoid this class at all cost.
DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR BECAUSE HE WILL DESTROY YOUR GPA!!!
The worst econ professor; do not take this class!!!!
The woooooooooooorst professor in the Econ department
The worst econ lecture ever! The professor doesn't care about his lecture anyway and always wastes time in some numerical examples. The practice exam has nothing to do with the test. There are 50 MCQs in the midterm and exam is poorly worded.
Very boring class and boring professor. Definitely not recommended!!!
Its a easy class. If you do his reading and listen in class. Is very easy.
never take his class
I've never given a bad rating before. I've had multiple profs with (strong) European accents and that hasn't once bothered me. But I'm really need to give this rating. His lecture attendance drops to 10% of the class by the end, and he should reflect on why that's the case. His lectures are so intolerably bland, exams are badly worded.
He needs to work on his boundaries. I have profs that are really passionate about their fields and want students to be the same too. But this is not the way to do it; he sends out a million emails, many times after midnight and even on Thanksgiving. It becomes annoying after a while… Really could be a discussion board rather than emails.
This class is unbelievably bad. The homework has nothing to do with the tests. We don't get any practice problems. The slides are extremely unclear. The practice test has nothing to do with the tests. He spams 10+ emails per day at 3 am. The average on the first midterm was a 76 yet there's no curve. Absolutely do not take this class.
Doesn't care about his students, and gives incomprehensible lectures. Homework is unrelated to the multiple choice-only exam that takes up to 90% of the grade. No curve was given even though the first midterm average was 76. The worst decision I've ever made is choosing this professor knowing that he is bad. Run for your life while you still can.
1)You pay 160+ USD for a textbook, otherwise you cannot submit HW 2)3 Multiple Choice exams are worth 90% of the grade, no curve 3)If you have a legitimate reason to miss an exam, you may get a make up exam which is "MUCH HARDER" (quote from syllabus) 4)Barely anyone attends lectures 5)Some questions on the test resemble a pub quiz, not an exam.
Clearly he's terrible at teaching and shows no respect for his students. Attendance in lecture drops by 50% after the first week. No curves are given for exams even though the grades are crazy low. Bombards you with hundreds of emails during the semester and even on Thanksgiving. He's one of the worst professors at NYU.
graded on three 50 mc tests, but no curve despite averages being C for the first midterm… only about 10% of class attends lecture, showing how disengaging and unhelpful lectures are. test questions are not like practice tests at all and are confusingly worded. took this class bc it's meant to be easy but is hurting my gpa instead, don't take it
Took international econ. Old school prof, but good. Go to lecture if you don't plan on reading textbook but otherwise you can read textbook (cengage) and do just fine. Exams are all MC although he doesn't curve anything in the class. Classic econ brainrot cengage HW
Well, the test is really hard. No curve for the whole semester. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF U WANT A GOOD SEMESTER
Not sure why he's getting paid for reading slides and sending emails. Pretty sure the school could hire a robot that teaches the course better than he does. He should retire and go run a pizzeria in Brooklyn.
nyu needs to fire this man - he does not care about his students in terms of grades and curves - we are all so scared to check grades cus the tests were hard
I got an A in this class but I'm still compelled to give this rating. Only 10% of the class shows up to his lectures by the end and that shows how bad his teaching is. I studied my ass off to get this grade cuz he didn't explain anything properly. Only around 10% people got an A, when this class was supposed to be an easier class.
Paizis is relatively easy for Micro, but his International Econ class was more difficult. Paizis's lectures are thorough, and he clearly cares about course content. Many students do not attend lecture and likely find the exams "unfair" as a result. In reality, Paizis tests explicitly on covered course material and is happy to engage with students.
the final grade avg was a 79 - he doesn't teach like bacially reads of the slides, no one can understand his accents, yells at students and then blames them for not showing up to class when his “teaching” makes it a self teach class - it's international economics which should be fun and easy but he makes it horrible
No curve, no negotiation. 90% of the grade comes from purely multiple choices.
The worst professor I've ever had at NYU. He makes the easiest material so hard to interpret that it almost made me think I'm taking intermediate-level Macro instead of Intro level. Two midterms + Final take up 85% of the final grade and he doesn't include curve at all, also has a very condescending attitude. Take someone else!!!
Those who gave it a 5 are doing so because they have the test bank, and that's why they are blaming other students for not "studying hard." They should be ASHAMED of themselves.
THE WORST PROFESSOR!
His exams are poorly worded and very ambiguous. Even though you thoroughly review the material, you could still get sth wrong . Exams are from the test bank. This is why the average skyrockets from 60 to 90 from midterm 1 to midterm 2: More and more students discover that questions are from test bank, and this helpts them get a decent grade.
His accent was very strong, and his lectures were boring and dry. As a result, only 10% of students attend his lectures after the first week of the class. In addition, exams are unnecessarily vague and weird. Seems like exams are from the test bank, and students who get access to the test bank easily get an A, which is unfair for other students.
One of my classmates gets 66 at midterm 1 but 98 at midterm 2, don't you think it seems too unbelievable? Yes, his exams are very vague and difficult, but as more and more students find out the online test bank, they get a decent grade. This is totally unfair for students who study hard and unwilling to spend so much money buying the test bank.
I highly doubt this professor's professionalism. At the beginning of the semester I was impressed that he sent announcements often, which can be helpful for some students who have limited knowledge on economics. Then, I realized he is spreading some very WRONG information and data what were so obvious if you follow the news and do a research a bit.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HIS EXAM IS. GGS.
The class is not hard at all, but would'n recommend this for 2XX Econ since there are better options. 30%each test and 10 % homework that means u can study yourself without going to the class. Take this class only if you have the test bank. Overall, easy class, but tough grader. First exam. 40%of the class less than 70, 20%around 60.
DO NOT TAKE HIMMMMM!
He's a great professor. His lectures are pretty entertaining and he actually seems to care about what he's teaching and connecting with students. I emailed him once at around 2am the night before an exam and he replied within 2 minutes, which is pretty rare to see out of other professors. Biggest downside is you have to buy an online textbook
He's nice, but not the best prof for international. Final was cumulative (14 chapters) and two additional presentations that are not in the textbook.
No idea what is taking about in class. Exams are hard
Do not listen to his one sided opinion, simply ignore all his announcements abt any datas. Do not go to classes, it's useless. His questions are from a question bank, so the wording is very weird and mechanic.
Only 13% of the class received an A or an A-, way below the standard econ curve. Your entire grade is determined by 150 terribly worded MC questions. All lectures are just summaries of the textbook. I know that most econ professors at NYU have terrible reviews, but this is the only one that I have taken that truly deserves it.
Actually awful. Do not take!
The ones who give good reviews are the ones who have the test bank. Never trust them.
Please read the textbook, and all questions are just based on it and your homework. Andrew is always accessible after class, and he often posts his interesting and insighted comments on recent news.
please dont take him over the summer midterm is 45% of the grade and the study guide was literally useless, he had trivia questions on it im being so serious
The workload is unnecessarily heavy for how little actual understanding we gain, and exams feel designed to trip you up rather than test what was taught. It often felt like we were being set up to fail. No curve, no flexibility, and minimal support. If you're looking for a class that's stressful, unclear, and unrewarding, this is it.
DO NOT TAKE. Last advice. He ignores everyone and cares not your situation. Exam all multiple choices. No extra credit, most boring lecture and aggressive attitude to everyone. Many people I know quitted this one yet aced many other econ courses.
Taking this class felt like shoving an extra prickly cactus up my behind. Taking the tests feels like preparing to take the SAT to sit down and realise you're actually taking the bar exam. If you for some reason decide to take this class I either think there's something wrong with you or Andrew Paizis took you hostage.
I would rather be skinned alive in WW1 trenches for the purposes of scientific research than be sitting in this guy's classroom.
Maybe it might be a professor problem when 30% of the class fails the exam. Nevermind, I am sure it is a professor problem after another 25% of the class failed the second exam. This class might genuinely have a lower pass rate than econometrics. Please explain to me how this is possible. (Level 200 course btw).
Most boring and lazy professor I have ever had in my entire life. He will make you hate economics. His entire course should be flagged for plagiarism as there is no original content. He pulls everything from the textbooks, homework, lectures, even exams!! His lectures are monotone, condescending, and eurocentric. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Everyone that likes to rate Paizis badly either doesn't show up to lecture (which barely matters anyway tbh) or doesn't read the textbook. To be fair, lectures aren't even necessary in his class if you just read the damn book. The slides, practices tests, and tests are all straight from the textbook, if you want an A, just READ THE BOOK.
DO NOT TAKE HIM Classes are useless, and you can't understand his accent, the worst accent in my whole life. Zhen Bie Shang, Kuai Pao
DO NOT TAKE HIM
If a professor tells you NOT to study his (plagiarized) slides because they lack info that you MUST read on your own, he's not a professor: he's an AI scammer selling you the academic equivalent of an NFT. You're spending 10 grand on a $150 textbook. Have fun at mandatory trivia night (his exams)!
most international university with the worst international econ course ever - where do i start. if you like putting it all on red, take this course. 150 mcq that are trivia and not actual questions that determine EVERYTHING. no curve. this class should be $150, just the textbook. lectures are useless. shoutout robert carbaugh for teaching me
Too bad to be rate. run
He does not get enough hate!! avoid
I don't even know where to begin–this class is genuinely such a mess and honestly i just let jesus take the wheel during exams (I'm not religious). Concepts that were literally never mentioned anywhere in the book or the slides (you can command f and check) pop up on the exam. At that point, who else but god can give you the answer...?
I'm convinced that every good review of this professor was submitted by him because there is no way that anyone who went to the same class as me would ever write that this class is easy to get an A in if you read the book. 45% of his class got D/F on the first exam and the second one was not much better. Avoid Paizis at all costs.
Grade are mostly composed of three exams, 30% each. Remaining 10% is homework. With his slides simply being stuff from cengage and his exams being fully multiple choice, it's near impossible to know what/how to study. The recitations are practically useless, and no amount of studying could prep you since there random new things on his tests. Run.
Take this course if you have no choice. 90% of your grade are based on 3 exams. Each exam consists 50 MCQ. The MCQs are meant to trick you and obviously he doesn't want you to succeed. I'll put some stats here for your reference: the mean for exam 1 was 76, and 28% of the class got a D/F. And worst of all, he doesn't curve.
3.1/5 is a scam. Should be 0/5. 3.3/5 difficulty is a scam. Should be 5/5. The entire course is a scam. If you are paying normal tuition, each one of his classes you go to is worth 200usd. Trust me, go spend that money on something else. Complete waste of my time, effort, and money.
Prof Paiz or should I say (worst hire from NYU) is not only a bad teacher at its core but also extremely rude. He is always asking us if we have any questions in class and then doesn't even wait a second and moves on. When we do have questions he gets furious. His exams are bad. tuition is 70k and someone needs to pay me 70k to take his class again
He is probably the worst professor I've had in my life. Please save yourself do not take this class.
Professor Paizis is truly a terrible professor. Paizis is on another level of horrible. His class consists of him reading off of slides that he did not even make. Exams are brutal and avgs are in the low 70s with 30% of the class usually failing. He does not curve and the Aplia hw is so different from the exams. Avoid his class at all costs. RUN!!!
Just a bad prof. 3 tests that are each worth 30%. The concepts of the class aren't even that hard but his tests are more random trivia than course content
40% of the class failed. Mind you this is a 200 level course…
genuinely the WORST educator I have ever had in my 19 years of schooling
If you memorize all the ppt content, you'll get an A
The worst professor I've ever taken. His lectures are just reading off slides. The required textbook for homework costs $200 and only 10% of the final grade. The rest comes from three 50 questions MCQ exams that are NOT curved (anything below 37, you fail). The questions are designed to trick you and ask super niche details. Take anything else.
