if you have a chance to take this class with him then do so
Really tought class - but nice guy - funny - really knows his stuff. Interesting course, but a lotta work.
The material is hard, but Dr. Petto does a great job at teaching it and making the class entertaining. Very knowledgable too.
Great Great GREAT teacher, very understanding, do your essays (theres only 3 one pagers) and just come to every class and your sure to get atleast a B. His exams are hard though, but a class well worth taking, trust me
Dr. Petto was an entertaining lecturer, very responsive when I asked for help, extremely down to earth, and posted excellent online notes as a follow-up to every lecture. If you go to class and pay attention, you should have no trouble acing this course.
Funny guy, hard class

Good sense of humor, difficult subject matter!
Entertaining and makes it enjoyable enough to come to class. Definately knows his stuff!
Dr. Petto is an excellent teacher, he is teaching some pretty hard stuff, but he does a VERY good job at keeping you interested and involved
Great at explaining the information in Anatomy and Physiology
Love the sex jokes
dr petto is the coolest professor at UWM. He knows the stuff and isnt afraid to teach us like college students should be taught.
GREAT PROFESSOR!
Dr. Petto is a very good professor. He's very clear about the subject matter, he teachers the material in a fun way, and he answers questions clearly. He knows what he's talking about and he keeps you interested in the subject through movies, jokes and his own personal experiences. All in all... great teacher!
whatever, this guy sucks. everything revolves around "new technology" wooo. most of the stuff doesn't function right. he uses D2L and powerpoint for everything, even exams and attendence. i love anatomy but this guy makes me hate it.
idk, i did not particularly enjoyed his lectured. they were so monotonous, except for some inside jokes that he made. i dont find him helpful, he completely ignored every email that i sent him. i was so excited to take this course now i dont even know if u want to take the second part of it:(
Petto is the best professor I have ever had! I would recommend him to anyone that needs A&P. Funny jokes sometimes! Lecture is decent and wouldnt want him to change anything about his teaching methods. Exams are a little challenging but being able to take it at home makes those with test anxiety feel better about tests. GREAT PROF.!!!!
Dr. Petto is a very smart man. He knows his stuff and expects you to know it too, by the end of the course. He is fair, it is college, so it is harder. He allows you to make up work so you receive half credit back, and you are able to do your tests online, although they are still challenging. I enjoyed his course.
Great teacher all around, wants his students to succeed.
Very good teacher, cares alot about his students.
AMAZING teacher. Extremely intelligent. Lecture material is not always on tests; he rambles often, using words most students don't understand simply 'cause he's so smart & interested in what he lectures about. He lets us make up tests and assignments for half credit, very helpful, & if you're present in lecture you get participation quiz points.
All tests are online and can be taken without attending lecture or reading book because it's an open book test! What kind of teaching enforcement is that?
This guy was okay. Hated going to lecture b/c i could never understand what he was talking about. the majority of it didn't relate to the readings. exams were okay (online and open book). His lab projects and HW assignments are ridiculous and a complete waste of time. especially when 3/4 of the class have no clue what they are doing.
awesome. knows so much. rare teaching passion.
The guy got a Ph.D from Harvard... nuff said. He kinda holds it over everyone though. He expects a tremendous amount of knowledge, that very few have even if you read the text. Tests are online, but are a lot harder than you think. I'd recommend, but be careful, have to put in effort. FYI a third of the class takes the course again.
very good teacher, lecture is important to go to b/c it is participation! read the book, or do online exams with a friend, have one person look up answers while you answer the questions or look up another answer :) it will work the best.
Great, entertaining lectures. Online exams require you to think, not all answers are word for word from the book. Make sure you follow the instructions exactly for the homework assignments or he'll make you do them over. Some assignments seemed too involved for first semester anatomy, but overall a good class. I learned a lot.
Intelligent professor, knows what he's talking about and does a pretty good job of trying to keep the students interested in the subject by throwing in random comical stories. I really enjoyed this class. I recommend going to class and trying to pay attention, it really makes the assignments and exams a whole lot easier...as with most other class
Great teacher, difficult course. Never dreaded going to lecture becuz he keeps the material interesting. Always go to class - you get participation points by answering ?s w/ a clicker. Don't take online exams together becuz no 2 exams are the same. You get a chance to re-do everything for half credit. Read your chapters, show up, & you'll do fine.
Petto is awesome. I wish he was teaching BioSci 203.
Dr. Petto is one of the best professors you will ever be lucky enough to have. This man has obviously immersed himself in the biological sciences for years and knows his material inside out. He is highly intelligent, speaks beautifully, and is the epitome of a "professor". Plus I think he is extremely hot.
Dr. Petto was interesting and really knows the material. To pass this class, go to lecture, read the chapters, and hit the tutoring sessions. Flag key sections in the book for online exams... don't do them together they are never the same.
Good teacher. Make sure you go to class because he give points for going and you will need them. Do the homework right the first time or he will make you re-do them and follow the directions. For the test make sure you think about the harder questions at the end, it won't be word for word out of the textbook, just like in the real world when a p
This class is not for the faint of heart. When doing the homework spend a min. of 50 hours on them. The class avarage for the homework was 59 percent. The exams are really hard, he does allow you to make up half points on them though. Good teacher but hard class
He was a grand professor but his classes at times did put me to sleep. the lab helped more than the lecture.
Petto is a great professor. Although much of the work is online, including the exams it does not mean you don't have to work hard. You have to go to lecture and he makes it interesting. He also lets you re-do things, and get back half of your points on the exams which helps alot!
Show up to every class and earn your points, exams are online, very hard even open book, know your stuff! Go to class!
was alright, sounded like alex trebek every day tho
Dr. Petto is a real character. Donned in plaid shirt and bowtie, he looks like every biology teacher stereotype you've ever heard of. But his lectures are entertaining, well thought out, and you'll learn a ton.
AJP is extremely knowledgeable about the material and he's a great resource no matter the question. Available during office hours, very approachable, patient, and thorough in explanation. Exams are online - but not easy. Great redo/makeup policy. To do well, read assigned chapters, go to lecture and take notes. When in doubt, ask questions.
Completely over the heads of freshmen. Do not take for your first semester of college.
hardest class ever!!! i cried on his last online exam it was impossible (class average was around a 50) i thought it was too much information and ive have anatomy before. his exams are literally intense and take a good 2 hours. Hes a great guy and really knows his stuff, but makes lecture boring as hell.
Does not do the greatest job explainin material. Tests given barley cover what was discussed in class. One could easily pass the class without going by viewing basic diagrams on other websites that cover the same material.
Lectures were sometimes entertaining, but most time out me to sleep. I played a lot of solitaire and checked my facebook a lot. SHOW UP TO CLASS! Participation points help IMMENSELY. Try to answer correctly. Online exams are ROUGH. Always do corrections..take home assignments are worse!
Very challenging course! Lectures are extremely boring, but necessary to attend! Online exams are near impossible and very difficult, make sure to do corrections! Study lots and do well in the lab!
He is VERY knowledgeable, but often times the material is difficult to grasp. The tests are insanely difficult. Make sure to go to every lecture to get your participation points, do every assignment, extra credit and pray. Hard. This class made me hate my life.
One of the BEST teachers I have had. Interesting lectures the majority of the time, he taught in an interactive way with 300 students. Overall, I wish I could take him for other classes.
His lectures are useless and what he says is mostly irrelevant to his exams. Instead of prepping you for his questions, he rants and repeats himself. You could read the book and have a much better understanding of the material. Lots of busy work. Assignments are weighted highly-more than exams.
OMG Dr. Petto is one of the best professors at UWM. he's funny and makes going to lectures worthwile. BUT EXAMS ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS MAKE SURE YOU READ THE CHAPTERS AND ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT BEFORE EXAMS AND YEAH AND HES ALSO HOTTTTTTT
More interested in experimental teaching methods than the success of his students. Doesn't allow for success on the first attempt at exams or projects, then allows "make up" points later. So you do twice the work, spend twice the time. Why not provide what's needed to do things right the first time? Very frustrating for efficient students.
I never really studied for the exams because they had ludicrously difficult comprehensive sort of questions that I never would learn by memorizing the material anyways. Overall, he's an interesting professor and I really liked him but he assigned too much busy work. work hard on AP Revealed assignments cuz most of the class fails them.
Terrible professor. He does not do ANY teaching during lecture, he just rambles about his PowerPoint slides that are plagued with typos. His tests loosley relate to what you do in lecture, and his lecture barley relates to what you do in lab. Do not expect to remember anything that he "teaches" a semester later.
I recommend working with 2 or 3 people for the APR assignments. They are worth more than tests in his class, so do good on them. His lectures are slightly confusing at times and doesn't relate much to the book. Clicker questions in class so attend class every day. He is extremely anti-plagiarizing so don't do it. He will catch you.
His jokes made going to lecture fun but much of the content was very complicated to understand. I recommend going to Supplemental Instruction for this class. Do not wait until the last minute to do the APR assignments! They are very tedious and count for a lot of the grade. Take advantage of office hours and redoing the APR assignments.
Interesting guy, but does not teach what is needed to know for the exams. he expects you to just "know" the material from some unseen source. i would recommend SI instruction.
overall if you keep up with your apr assignments you will do just fine. He does allow for a makeup for the first couple but not the last. The exams are easy in my opinion they are open book and only ten questions. you get two hours to complete it. Lab requires more memorizing
Actually the above rating is incorrect-you get 1 hr to complete the open book Exams. This time limit makes it more difficult. 2 hrs would be a breeze- I am not sure why the person above got such a luxury. The questions are tricky & you must read them word for word. Otherwise the class is fun! Petto is a blast. I loved it! He is engaging & He cares.
Actually the above rating is incorrect-you get 1 hr to complete open book MiniExams. This time limit makes it more difficult. 2 hrs would be a breeze- I am not sure why the person above got such a luxury. The questions are tricky & you must read them word for word. Otherwise the class is fun! Petto is a blast. I loved it! He is engaging & He cares.
i didn't like him, but his class was easy. I rarely attended lectures since they nothing that was covered there was ever on any tests or quizzed. the lab section of this class is what makes it hard.
He uses clickers, so you have to attend for the points. The APR take home assignments are very time consuming and irritating. The mini exams aren't worth much, so don't freak out. But I'll admit, as a freshmen, this class is pretty tough. I'd have to say 85% of my study time is for this class, but its worth it cause I'm doing well right now.
He uses these stupid sound effects to keep people from sleeping in class. It's the most annoying thing in the world. This is a class that is designed for the extremely immature. He makes a lot of dumb jokes and practically asks people to laugh.
He's there for supplemental knowledge along with your own self study of the textbook - he's not here to baby you. Dr. Petto uses Powerpoints, clickers and thought/group provoking questions. His assignments are harder and longer than the exam(it's open book and online). He's a dorky, quirky, fun professor if you understand and try in the course.
Be prepared to spend hours upon hours doing APR take home assignments and case studies for both lab and lecture. The exams are crazy, but all of the information you need is either learned in lecture or is in your book. He uses clickers so you have to attend lectures. You'll probably end up learning more in the lab . Good Luck!
As a senior I can say that this is one of the easiest classes I have taken when you do what youre supposed to. read the book show up to class pay attention take notes start the APR assignments early and get his feedback and youll be fine. all exams are online so you can take it in a group with notes and you can redo all assignments. EASY A :)
A hero in his own mind. This class is THE textbook case of micromanagement. your time (& a lot of it) is spent learning how to please Petto. An A in this class means ONLY that. Also, takes about a month, literally, to grade assignments, and the ave is usu around an F, so do what you got to do to max out those pts. better yet, take someone else!
This class is tough! Petto is quite picky about answers and definitely makes you think and apply your knowledge. Even though the case studies and APR's are a pain, he is there to help so definitely take advantage of that.
Be prepared to study a lot in this class. The lab portion is really hard. I recommend working with a group for the take home assignments because they are very time consuming as well as the case studies. The online exams are very hard! Make sure to attend because he has clicker points. However he is VERY helpful and emails back quickly.
He is very helpful. I would recommend working with a group for the take-home assignments and case studies. A lot of work and studying in this class. Lab is hard. There is a quiz once a week. Clicker points are used in every since lecture. If you want feedback from him he is willing to help. I overall enjoyed him and his teaching style.
He's was once a harvard grad. Extremely tough guy. Be prepared to spend hours upon hours of work. However, in the end, you'll feel like you learned a lot.
Great teacher! He loves the subject so it makes learning easier. Lab is hard, so make sure you perform well in that. He gives take home assignments that are also very difficult, so don't try to do them the night before. Attendance is mandatory so go to lecture. He does let you revise all of your coursework, so take advantage of that.
Awesome teacher! If you put in the work you will do great. He will sit in his office with you as long as you want for him to explain stuff. He is super helpful and will read all your assignments before you turn them in as long as you give him time. One of if not the best teacher I have ever had. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He gives way more work than the other teacher. The positive to it is you can do it in the group, and trust me do it in the group. I feel like if you do the work you can pass. Just do the work. You have to go to class, but sometimes it isn't worth listening. Must study can be hard. The takehome and case studies suck. Lab is really hard.
Extremely hard class. A lot of extra, useless work involved that is not required for other professors. Extremely hard grader. If you get a D, be proud.
Tough class, but if you keep up with the work and show up to class, you will do fine. As a senior, the material in this class has helped me alot. All of these courses build upon one another, so you might as well study and do your best. The labs are easy and the case studies aren't bad. The exams are also online. Take them with a partner. Good luck!
Dr. Petto was probably the worst professor I had throughout my college career. I took his class as a senior after taking multiple other high level bio and chem courses. He was arrogant and not helpful at all when questions were asked. He did not explain his expectations for any assignment even when I emailed him. He just made you feel stupid.
This guy is a horrible professor. He seemingly has no desire for students to do well. When I asked him questions he was very rude and wouldn't even look at me. He is an overly harsh grader and although his exams are online, they are extremely hard. If you unfortunate enough to get him, save yourself the pain and SWITCH OUT!
The most non- helpful, mean and overall worst professor I have ever had. He makes students feel stupid and does not care if half the students in his lecture fail. He is so arrogant and doesn't take the time to explain his extremely difficult, confusing and unnecessary assignments. Never, ever, ever take one of his classes.
Honestly he was one of the worst professors I had ever had. He was extremely arrogant and not student focused. He really didn't care about the students and I think everyone can tell that by the grades. There aren't a lot of professors at Milwaukee that care about the students.
He is a good teacher. The jokes he adds makes it easier to pay attention. There is a lot of course work though. It gets to be a lot to do.
The workload was a lot and lectures never covered anything relevant. It was pretty much an online class that you had to show up for. Petto was the worst professor Ive ever had.
Petto was one of the toughest professors out there. Be prepared to actually get some serious work done. Try to decent group mates for that class, and always remember, it's quite possible to receive a good grade. Tough, but manageable. Try not to take other tough courses while taking this one, it needs plenty more time than other classes.
Avoid any classes with Petto at all cost! I'm doing you a huge favor!
I passed the class; but feel like I learned nothing. Lab's for this class are terrible. If you have a guy Named Luke S. switch! Lectures do not go with lab. Everything is online. Books are so expensive and you only use online and lab book. It is stressful at first, just stick with it and do your best to stay ahead!
This class is A LOT of work. Case studies are a pain; but if you follow the template and answer all questions, you'll do well. Dr. Petto is smart and very witty, and always willing to help. Just ask! It's easy to succeed if you keep up with the work and study for lab practicals.
I found some of the things he discusses to be very interesting and I love the subject. Lab quizzes and exams require hours of study time. Dr. Petto is responsive and helpful up until the end of the semester, which is very annoying. He takes forever and a million years to grade. I still don't have a final grade and grades were due 4 days ago.
DR. Petto makes it impossible to fail but is terrible at updating grades, getting back to emails, and always responds "it is on D2L." I realize he has a BIG quantity of students, but it shouldn't take months to post one assignment and 75% of the grades were entered wrong. He takes FOREVER to fix the things that were in wrong. Grades are way past do
LOTS of Work, I've been spending half of my time doing assignments for this class. Case Studies and Take-Home assignments are Pain. The Book is very useful if you want to finish LearnSmart&Connect quickly. He's very kind and strict at the same time. If you have trouble about work and contact him, I'm sure he will give you the best respond he could.
This is a very, very difficult class. Be prepared to be constantly frustrated. I don't advise taking it with Petto, as he is the most difficult professor I've ever encountered. He doesn't even respond to your emails or talk about relevant things in lecture. He is a very harsh grader and I don't believe he even wants his students to pass. Good luck!
Simple sweet and to the point... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS at UWM!!!!! DR. Petto is the hands down WORST professor ever. Next semester starts in 7 days and I STILL DON'T have my grades!! He has wrongly added my grades tons of times and lied about correcting this. I am now in contact with the head of the Bio dept. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!
This was seriously the worst class ever! I transferred to UWM with a 3.7gpa. I worked extremely hard and still failed his class!! Most of it's online, but you still have to attend lab and lecture. Lecture never has anything to do with assignments or lab. Expensive and a waste of time! Don't take this class! If you do, don't take any other classes.
I don't understand the bad rap about this being a difficult professor. Plain and simple, the lecture is very easy...if you complete all assignments. This course's focus is on completion. The lab portion forces you to study, but you can still get an A with A B+ in lab. Do what he asks. Go to class. Study for Lab. You will get an A, like I did.
He is hard and never easy on his case studies or the bunch of work that he gives. I really do not suggest ant student to take this class with him no matter what!!
Use of technology impediment to class &learning;?for convenience of instructor, NOT benefit of students. POOR return time of graded assignments. Lecture always far behind assignments and assessments, so do not assist process of learning. Poor use of class time, again monopolized by use of Tophat, when great time could be spent on explanations
This class is a ton of work. Also he is a little slow on returning grades. HOWEVER if you do the work you will get the grade. I enjoyed the straight forwardness of this class. I busted my butt doing homework and in lab and got an A. I would rather do that than have all exam based grades. He is very personable if you take the time and meet with him.
I have mixed feelings about this professor. All of the online assignments are helpful, but take up a lot of time. His lectures weren't on schedule with the labs and there was also poor use of lecture time. He was very slow on grading. He made an unexpected grade change after the semester was over which was very frustrating.
Technology dominates this class and impedes learning. There are no exams and all class work is online and is exceptionally time consuming. There is no need for the textbook and little to nothing is learned in this class. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of instruction and the fact that technology dominates the classroom.
Excellent professor, extremely knowledgeable. He has a true passion for what he teaches. If you are looking for an easy course this is not the course for you. However, if you are looking for a memorable course that will teach and prepare you for the future this is it, be ready to devote your semester to this class though!
As a professor, he's very knowledgable. Though he seems intimidating in class, when you approach him during his office hours, that's not the case at all - he's very nice and helpful. This specific class isn't necessarily hard, it just requires a lot of work, and you get out of it what you put into it.
Be prepared to devote most of your time for this class. Tbh he is really smart, knowledgable, cute & funny. But all the assignments he gave are just overwhelming. It was my first semester and I totally couldn't handle it. So make sure you are both physically and mentally prepared before taking this class. Otherwise, take the summer class instead.
be ready for busy work. You'll do all your learning in lab. Attend SI AND tutoring weekly. IT WILL HELP SO MUCH
He lectures on things that are far beyond what you learn in the course, then gets annoyed when you don't grasp the concepts right away. Lab is the best part of this course, as far as actual learning goes. Still have to go to lecture though because he uses clickers. Really tough class, the case studies will be the death of you unless you're a gunner
lots and lots of busy work. didn't learn a single thing.
Case studies and take-home assignments were big papers that are passfail
This class has outweighed any other class that I have taken throughout my college career.... When you take on this class make sure your other classes are on the easier side!
He's pretty funny, but the lectures are boring and it is a tough class.
He is an adorable old guy who seems like a generally good person. But if you take this class, you can kiss your social life goodbye. Yes it is true there are absolutely no tests, but enough homework to keep you constantly busy. It's not that I wouldn't recommend this class, just be prepared to work harder than you ever hahave before... or fail.
At first I thought it was pretty cool how there are no tests in this class, however the major papers you have to do are hard and he grades them super hard. Also the major assignments are passfail so if you don't meet the objective you get a zero in the grade book. There's a lot of busy work and homework too.
There are about 6 major assignments you have to do, many easier working in a group. Don't try to email him- you will just get a short, rude response. Half of the class is online work, too. LECTURES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY READINGS but he uses tophat (like a clicker) for answering questions and attendance. His class requires A LOT of work.
Difficult class. If you are willing to work hard and put in the effort then you should do good. I highly recommend working with a group on case studies and take homes. Those are very tough.
When I first started Petto's class I thought it would be impossible to pass. But somehow I passed with flying colors just by doing the mindless Salons, Connects... and just showing up to lecture since TopHat is how he grades attendance. He adds in great information in the lectures that help with the case studies and take homes.
Be prepared to work. I was a Journeyman prior to changing my profession and this is work, plain and simple. Get a calendar and put everything on it for one month at a time. It comes at you fast, buck up and you'll be amazed at your accomplishment.
Hard grader and gives lots of assignments. Usually case studies or group projects. Makes you work for the grade you desire. Good professor overall but many people struggle. He usually gets bad ratings because his classes are so large and many people in there dont put in the work .As a result, they do bad and blame the professor being tough.
Dr. Petto is a very intelligent man, who clearly knows his stuff and teaches well. However the structure of the class is all over the place. There's so many different types of assignments. At least two fairly time consuming assignments are due weekly, on top of irrelevant lengthy case study assignments and take home tests. Instructions never clear.
He is the worst professor I've ever had. He has a lot of assignments that are very difficult. The questions he asks on his take-homes and case studies are not questions to ask in a beginning anatomy course. I tried to go in for help but he didn't clear anything up. I did everything I could and only got a C+. I only learned from lab, not from him.
WORST class ever taken. Lectures are never specified to what you need to know. Class is more democracy based, which is a TERRIBLE idea. If you NEED this class for your major, his class is not ideal. I learned more in lab than I did in lecture, it became pointless to even attend after the half way mark because lectures are definitely easily structur
In my opinion, all of the homework such as case studies and take-home assignments to be completely useless and felt as though he graded them harshly and gave negative feedback. Although if you don't attend lecture you fail, I didn't learn anything. The connect homework was helpful but they didn't even correlate with my lab, making them useless.
Petto seems like a smart guy but he expects far too much out of his students. Be prepared to spend countless hours a night doing salon and connect homework. Oh plus extra hours for all the lab homework. It is very very easy to fall behind. I recommend you take this class with a light load of classes.
The worst professor I've ever had. The way the class is set up is very confusing and stressful. You are required to spend a lot of time doing extra work and working on group projects where you really aren't sure what you are really supposed to do. The projects are pass or fail which I found very frustrating. Avoid Petto at all costs.
Dr Petto makes it very clear what is expected to pass his course, if you complete all assigned work (on time), and show up to lecture you should not have a problem passing this course. Dr Petto is very approachable, see him during his office hours with any questions, he's very helpful. Lecture and lab do not sync, my only complaint.
Class structure is extremely confusing. Expect a bunch of assignments! Petto is scattered when it comes to his lectures. He lectures assuming that you're already familiar with e material.
I was told to take this class with a light load, I did not. I am midsemester right now, and am drowning. I am taking 16 credits. There is really no real instruction on how to complete any of his assignments and when there are instructions, they are extremely confusing. One good thing is that he is helpful in person. It is very easy to fall behind.
Petto is very knowledgeable however, the lectures were confusing and seemed to drag away from what was tested on in homework and projects. He does try to help his students but since the class is so large it's hard.
Dr. Petto definitely teaches a research-based class, and the case studies require HOURS of research. You are thrown a lot of work in the beginning of the semester and it seems like you're drowning, but if you see him during office hours he is extremely helpful. A very tough class and requires a lot of work.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is very unfair and is willing to get you expelled from the University. He is the meanest teacher ever. Avoid his class at all costs!!!!
No exams. Practicals, case studies, and take-home assignments are the major grades. Case studies are easy, practicals really depend on your lab TA- but most are easy, take-home assignments are easy aswell but he's a hard grader- grades to the hundredth decimal. If you want to be successful in life, you will ace this class
HES SERIOUSLY ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU NEED HELP
Overall a good professor. No exams but this is a weed out class. Do the weekly online homework assignments and participate in the in class activities. Also, make sure to put in time to the case studies. They might be long and useless but he gives great feedback so you do not fail the case. Approachable & will answer any question if go to his office
The class is a ton of busy work, but if you try and put all of your effort into it you will be fine. There are no exams or tests (you have Take-Home assignments that take place of them, however), which is good.
Most confusing class I have ever taken. He assigns a lot of homework which are not clear in the syllabus or don't even show up on the syllabus. When you go to lecture, you're forced to get into groups of random people, or you won't get credit for attending the lecture even though you're there. His lectures are especially scattered and unorganized.
You can pass. At first you will be drowning but it is possible to pick yourself up. DO NOT fall behind or do anything late, make sure to turn in everything on time. Try to take this class with easier classes because it is so extremely time consuming. You will most likely be confused the semester but ask around and so is everybody else.
He was super nice and cute with his bowties but he's a hard grader so it made it challenging. Theres a lot of online assignments, but they aren't bad. pray to get a good grade on the case studies..
Dr. Petto doesn't give out extra credit but he allows you to redo your assignments for a higher grade. He is very helpful of you meet and talk with him. His explanations aren't that great sometimes it can be confusing. At the beginning of the class it was tough but as the class goes on it' s manageable.
Don't let his professionalism in class, via email and D2L scare you, he is actually very helpful if you go to him and actually show that you are trying. Sometimes he is very unclear about what assignments can be redone and which ones are final. Takes a while to give grades and feedback, but when it comes it's very helpful and detailed what to fix.
A lot of these reviews are on BioSci202 - so realize this review is for BioSci201, which is supposed to be an "intro" to anatomy. I found Dr. Petto to be a very sweet guy, but the semester was avery unorganized and not taken seriously. I suggest if you need gen. ed credits take this course, but NOT if you are interested in anatomy - just go for 202
There are no tests, but expect projects that are considered as test grades. You can do these alone or in groups, but if you hate project based classes good luck. There is a difficult assignment right at the start so DO NOT GET BEHIND. Finish all the homework & project as soon as you can. As long as you do this you will get a B.
Dr. Petto is an interesting professor, his anatomy course has no tests which is a plus but does have research assignments and a lot of them. Lab is probably the most difficult portion of this class. Attendance is recorded each class. Overall Petto is pretty easy and will help you if you ask for it.
No tests or exams (except in lab with a TA), instead he does take-home's and case studies (which aren't easy). His directions and clarity on these assignments are confusing. Do not give one sentence answers, expand on your thoughts. GO TO CLASS. Participation points are a nice chunk of the total grade. Easy to do well if you just listen.
I was told by so many people going into this class that it was the hardest class in the University and it would be impossible to get an A. Yes, I had to work hard, study well for the lab quizzes and practicals, and spend a lot of time on case studies and take home group projects, but I got an A easily enough. Don't let others' reactions scare you.
Lecture was a mandatory for attendance via top hat, but other than that nothing he said in lecture was graded. The only place you will learn anything is in lab which was much better than the lecture. Be prepared to do a lot of busy work and working on case studies. If you don't do the work you WILL fail.
Attendance is mandatory, but if you show up and do the Acrobatiq (online textbook) quizzes you'll be ok. He got rid of the case studies this semester, so the class isn't terribly difficult now. Just do the work and you will be fine. Overall Dr. Petto is a pretty good professor: he adds interest to what would be a very boring class.
He is by far the worst professor at UWM. Go to his 200 person lecture and turn to your left and right and those people will tell you how they failed the class last semester. He has you examine the scientific quality of case studies instead of teaching anatomy. His class requires graduate level coursework that in no way resembles A&P.
Worst professor I've ever had. Failed a class that did not need to be failed. Spends more time making you do unrelated busy work than actually learning anatomy. Hours and hours of homework every night. Expects new freshmen to know everything about anatomy and college that he knows. Avoid him and his classes at all costs.
This class was such a disappointment. Anat./Phys. was my favorite class in high school, but prof Petto ruined it for me. This course was SO disorganized. Lecture and lab were never on the same page and this made taking exams VERY difficult and confusing. It also seemed like we spent a lot of time talking about very irrelevant topics in lecture.
Would not recommend this class or professor to anyone, even if you are interested in A&P. The lectures and labs never corresponded with each other, and Petto didn't teach us a single thing in lecture. The only material that related to the course was the online homework and that was extremely unorganized and dysfunctional throughout the semester.
He makes you work for a good grade in this class. You will constantly be on your toes with things due. I think he bites off more than he can chew with the amount of work he gave us. The exams were pretty tough. BUT he gives you a lot of work (modules, lab grade, etc.) to offset the weight of exams. That helped me a lot. So for that, it was worth it
Petto is very passionate about science . Didnt take any notes during lecture, just answered questions on tophat and worked on acrobatiq (the online textbook) You gotta work pretty hard on the take home assignments and lab to get a good grade but I pulled off an A with not an extensive amount of effort. If you do your work youll pass
One of the worst classes I've had to take in undergrad. Lab is manageable but lecture take home assignments are awful. He is a ridiculous grader and lecture material has nothing to do with the assignments. Case studies are very time consuming and useless. This class is incredibly frustrating but you will get through it!
Petto's lectures actually aren't that bad. He is the typical college professor that likes to stand up there and lecture but he knows his stuff and is fairly interesting to listen to. He is very bad at communicating with students and his grading scale make no sense. He will take forever to put grades in and everything is of very small weight.
I believe Petto doesn't need to be teaching Anatomy I. He expects freshmen to come in and understand material right away. He piles homework on you like you aren't taking any other classes. This should not have been that hard of a class. His lecture was pointless but mandatory. The labs never matched with lecture which made things really difficult.
Reading, lab & lecture doesn't correspond as much, but if you do your work (read), it'll pay off. Lots of reading/hwk, but worth the learning experience. Lab sections are really helpful, so attend. Prof makes sure you're in class (does atten. code at end of class). Prof is entertaining with personal stories and examples.
Petto is very smart, however, the assignments and material he teaches either 1. have nothing to do with anatomy or 2. do not make the least bit of sense . The instructions on the Take Home Assignments are terribly vague and then he writes paragraphs on paragraphs of corrections and things you did wrong. Beware of taking Anatomy with Petto.
He assigns too much busy work for his classes. I would not take him again. His lectures are all over the place, and his case studies are not easy to understand. You will definitely spend hours upon hours a week just working on the book homework. I learned more from lab, then I learned from his lectures or case studies.
This guy came off as rude instantly to me. Stuck up weiner.
Petto is a good professor. In class, he does't seem very helpful but if you take the time to stop by his office.. you will not leave clueless. he lectures and the lab do not correspond with each other so you have to stay on top of your studies. There is alot of homework and 3 take home assignments which will be crucial to your grade.
Took his class during this past spring. It's hard to understand what he's doing at times. Take home assignments were so vague, can't seem to explain to us thoroughly if he wants it a certain way. He is smart, but not a very organized teacher at all grading-wise. Lecture is hard, just ALWAYS read your syllabus and keep track of every assignment.
Lectures are dry and a full month behind what is going on in lab. He does not have any exams, however he has hug assignments due the same week as lab practicals that are worth as much as an exam. The instructions are completely vague and unclear, and he grades harshly. He expects way too much of his students for the material learned. DON'T TAKE HIM
His take home exams are vague. Lectures are almost a full month behind his lab portion of the class. He has canceled office hours before major exams were due and his responding emails were vague and not helpful. Huge assignments in lecture are due the same week as lab practicals. I don't have enough characters to explain, but this class was awful.
The lectures in this class are not helpful and way behind what is being done in lab. Case study assignments are a large part of the grade, but the directions are very unclear and he grades very harshly with little to no feedback. There would be a line of students down the hall during his office hours because his directions were so vague.
Petto was an okay professor. I think overall he does a great job of providing students witth excess materials needed to understand the course work. Disliked how much busy work was assigned (AKA online homework assignments). Also take home assignments were vague and unclear and often ended up in resulting with a poor grade. No in class exams tho!
Dr. Petto was a great instructor. Clearly was knowledgeable about the subject and had a great way of teaching. Show up to class, pay attention, and work hard in lab to get a great grade in the class. Take home assignments are given instead of exams, it really doesn't get much easier than that. He was funny and approachable!!
Will take off points for just about anything. Wants you to be super clear and specific but feedback sucks. Very hard grader, but does not set his expectations on how he wants hw done. Should've take another class. Does too much.
