I took Dr. Piercy's A&P class when he taught in GA. This is subject is not easy but Dr. Piercy was very helpful. He cares about the students and was very transparent and fair in class. Would recommend.
A&P is a hard class but Dr. P does a good job of being fair & testing us only on what was covered in class. I took him in GA. You have to study a lot but he was in his office a lot and would answer questions.
This teacher was not helpful and extremely sarcastic! You only use your lab manual, textbook is a waste. There is no extra credit or classwork, strictly tests and practical. He expects you to know everything without giving you any idea of what to expect and his power points are just about 100 slides so majority lecture all the time extremely boring
This class is very challenging. if you don't have the time to study probably 30 mins a day then don't take this class! if you want to learn a lot , take it. He is really cool and will always help you with what you need.
This class is hard, but you will learn. Dr Piercy is great at explaining anatomy and hes nice. Study all the notes he gives you, they are your bible. If you study ALOT his tests/practicals/quizzes are really easy. So STUDYING IS A MUST. Hes always willing to help and answers all your questions. Would recommend.
This is't a cake course. You will have to work for your grade but will truly learn the material. Dr. Piercy is an excellent professor who is very helpful. He takes the time to explain things and answer questions. Take notes, & study a lot and don't be afraid to ask questions & participate in class discussion & you will do well in this class.
Dr. Piercy has a funny sense of humor so lectures are a pleasure. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. Yes- you must study every single night to not be overwhelmed right before tests, but it is very worth it. Doesn't get better than him people!
Piercy, as I like to call him, is probably one of the best professors at Valencia. He works a ridiculous amount of hours to help his students succeed. You will have to study, a lot. He provides you with all of his power points and never tests you on anything other that what he went over in the slides. Dedicate time and you will succeed.
Dr. Piercy is so dedicated to his students. He has tons of office hours and even opens more hours if you need to speak with him. He is straightforward, honest, helpful, and funny. Great professor. Really recommend him because Anatomy and Physiology is not an easy subject.
Great professor. Very nice and helps with anything. Do not be lazy. It's a lot of material
I recommend this professor for A&P 1. Great guy, gives you everything you need to know, and really tried to help his students.
He's funny and tries to make you interested in the class. He should try to make his lectures funner instead of just reading PPTs. Not an easy class, don't take it if you're used to getting easy A's. Use every resource you can to study for his tests. You will come out of this class actually learning something! Oh dont drop test tubes, he'll get mad.
The class is definitely NOT an easy A. It requires a lot of studying, but Dr. Piercy does a great job at helping you and making it fun to learn about. Oh, and he talks about shark gonads a lot.
What are you doing? Sign up for his class NOW! You will learn, laugh, and love it! I will definitely miss having him as my professor. Take him. Study!!!!!!! Study!!!!!!!! But you cannot not succeed with him.
VERY FAIR! If you attend class and study hard, you will do well in this class. Dr. Piercy will make every effort to help you. He has a variety of office hours and if you need to talk to him outside of them, he will do it. He tells you what to study and will not test you on something you haven't learned from the slides. Great professor!
I'm actually sad it's over. Took Dr. P for A&P 1 & 2. Book is for reference, not necessary if you can memorize his slides. Sarcasm is at an all time high in this class so if you have thick skin, you'll do fine. Course load is ridiculous... suggestion, do not take another science while taking A&P. Great professor, I'd take him again if I could.
Love, love, LOVED Dr. Piercy!! It is an Anatomy course so it is not an easy A however, if you show up to class and put in the time you will pass and will learn. Class is awesome, he is so funny and teaches in a way the material sticks. Dr. Piercy goes above and beyond making himself available to help with tons of open lab and office hours.
This teacher is AMAZING! Taking his class is worth the drive. Valencia's science program lacks good teachers, but not him! Take him!
He grades strictly on quizzes, tests, and lab practicals. It is a biology class- so the material is very dull and he doesn't do much to make it interesting. He is fair and will provide any extra materials you ask for.
A and P is not an easy course, but Dr. Piercy has a way to help you succeed, he is there for you when you need him and if you study his power points you will be ready to for any assessment he gives you. He practically gives you everything and if allied health is your choice career take him he will prepare you for it.
Very responsive and approachable. He will make time for you if you need it. No assignments. Grade is based on tests and quizzes. Test material is from power points and lectures. This is a difficult class no matter who you take, but he makes things as easy as possible. Not an "easy A," but an attainable one. You will learn! Fav science professor.
If you are looking for a class in which you want to actually learn, TAKE him!! Like any other science class, you have to do your part. if you do your part, you will get an A! He teaches and gives everything that you have to know for the test!! If you have any questions, he is there to help. A great professor!
No homework in this class or extra credit . 3 lecture exams 3 lab exams that's it. this class was a nightmare . I would spend hours studying and making note cards all for a lousy grade. his tests are super hard and he tries to trick you with all his tf questions.
Grade was 10% QuizClasswork, 35% Lect. exams, 40% lab practicals, 15% final. Quizzes were group quizzes. He always covered the material that was tested. Few extra credit point near the end. If you make the effort you will pass. Does lab and lecture on both days so they are not too long. Learned a lot. Wish I took him for AP1.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. He explains things very thoroughly and he is very approachable. I received an A in his class, and I think that is very possible for anyone to do if they put in the work. You do not need the book, I didn't have one. If you have a chance to take this class with Dr. Piercy TAKE ITTTTT!
You have to study if you want to pass his class, it is not an easy A... His test are hard but he only test you on the material he covers during class or lab. He does not gives you homework but you will have pop quiz. He has an open door policy and always very helpfull. He is an excellent profersor, will take him. You will learn a lot!!
He is a good professor. Just wasn't for me. The only assignments are Test and quizzes. The quizzes are scarce and inconsistent. There is no study guide or home/practice work to gauge your knowledge. Too pass you must memorize his power points. Good at teaching/testing labs though. Prep for lecture exam? No. He is super available though.
AP is not an easy subject no matter what teacher you take because it is a course with a lot of material covered in a short time. Dr. P is a great professor. He is very helpful, available, and willing for his students. Class consists of lectures, some pop quizzes, lecture exams, and lab practicals. Just study and go to open lab and you'll pass.
HONESTLY HE IS GREAT!!! If I would have studied harder I would have received a MUCH better grade in his class but he makes class fun and likes to engage with this students. He is very approachable and helps you retain the information! This is by far the BEST professor I have ever taken. I wish I took him for AP1. He really knows his stuff!
He is horrible omg very inconsiderate and unrealistic he expects you to drop your whole world for this class worse professor if you don't work I guess you can take him. He is rude cocky and unapproachable stay away don't waste your time or money. Retaking this class with a way better professor
Hands down awesome teacher. Very available for students and helpful. Classes are half lecture, half lab. A&P is fundamental to any health career so it is very important. This class is challenging but not impossible. He is very clear in what he expects and tests are from what he teaches, not random info. Don't overestimate and go to tutoring .. :)
He doesn't many chances to help your grade. Gives out group pop quizzes, you honestly never know when there is going to be a pop quiz. Doesn't follow course schedule. You HAVE to attend every lecture and go to tutoring and open lab. Difficult material, don't waste money on the textbook, only the lab practical.
If you want to find an easy A&P II class you are delusional because it doesn't exist. Professor Piercy is great BECAUSE of the pop quizzes. There is so much material to cover that you need to consistently review your notes ( I highly suggest flash cards of the lectures) and will retain the info better. He is very open and willing to help.
This class is very difficult. You need to study a lot. The good thing is that he tests on whatever is covered in class, and details and definitions are important for him. There is open lab and there is always a practical guide to study by. He gives pop quizes, no extra credit or homework. But he expects you to use the time and study for the exams.
Dr. P is an excellent prof. He only tests on what is covered in class. Has an open door policy. Def cares about his class. Lectures were interactive and entertaining. Would def recommend to those that want to learn.
Dr. Piercy is a great professor, took him for A&P 1 and 2. Exam -35%, cumulative, final 15%, classwork 10%, practical 40%. 3 Exams, 1 final, 10 quizzes, 3-4 practicals. EVERYTHING you need to study throughout this course is in the slideshows and his lectures. Print them out before class and take notes on the same pages. Utilize all lab time too.
Dr. Piercy is a great teacher and genuinely cares. It will be work, but it is so doable. Helps by giving pop quizzes/makes lecture material tolerable. Make flashcards and rep them! Don't cram. I actually learned from his class-- anyone who complains just doesn't want to put in the work, because he gives you ALL the information in his powerpoints.
Probably has one of the worst attitudes that I've seen at the Lake Nona Campus! Very arrogant and sets unrealistic expectations way too early. While I did learn a lot, it was because of the SL Leader that I saw 2 or 3 times a week. I wouldn't recommend him, but you don't have many choices at the Lake Nona Campus for A&P courses.
I like to rate my Professor at the beginning of the semester AND the end. With just a few weeks into class, he lets you know right off the bat that this is definitely a class that you have to work for. With any science class, this is true. He is very intelligent, and makes sure the entire class understands before he moves on. Definitely STUDY STUDY
He is a great professor. His lectures are long but he breaks it down for you and repeats anything you need if needed. All you need to know are on the power point lectures. This is not an "A" but it is not impossible. You have no choice but to study to get a decent grade. Definitely taking him next sem. for ap2.
Great professor just make sure you have the right mindset and work balance to endure is class. Kind of wish there were more assignments to help boost up a grade, but essentially if you put in time and go to SL you can get a B!
Is great at explaining, but the exams will be the hardest part if his class. Practicals will be easy, if you study hard. Class consists of exams, practicals, and pop quizzes. No additional grades. Exams consists of criteria only given through powerpoints. To pass this class, I would advice to not take hard classes. This will take up all your time.
Professor Piercy is a great professor! I took A&P 1 and 2 with him and really liked how he teaches and explains the material. There is a lot of terminology to memorize. There is no homework, but you NEED to read and really study the chapters, otherwise you won't do good on the tests. I also recommend to record the lectures, that really helped!
Dr. Piercy is always willing to help you. Remember a&p 1 & 2are hard classes, so don't expect that you will pass if you study 3-4 days before the exam. you need to study daily(he gives you the pp). no hw, no extra credit.
He really knows what he is talking about. Ask him anything and he will know the answer. He goes quick when it comes to lectures but just pay attention to class and you will be fine for the tests.
I would personally not recommend this professor. Dr. Piercy is very knowledgable in anatomy and physiology BUT is not helpful at all. All grades are test based and if you ask for more help he will just tell you anything said in class is "fair game". Lab time is basically your time, we found ourselves teaching each other the models every class.
Dr. P is great. All A&P classes are hard there is a lot to learn. He is great at explaining and doesn't rush it, always asking if we are understanding. Super helpful. He even has let people borrow books if they don't have one. Labs are hands on which I like. No homework. Def recommend.
Super cool guy but I wouldn't suggest taking him. You study for hours on end for the test to be a complete surprise & smack in the face. No hw, no study guides, nothing to refer to expect two packets that have a list of words you need to know. Go to class, listen to him lecture, pray during the test-my advice to you if you take him. Withdrawaled.
Knowledgeable teacher, but not the best teacher. If you have a life, I wouldnt advise you take him. He lectures off of his 90 page slides per Chapter. Will randomly give pop quizzes. The lecture tests are 4 chapters crammed, no study guide. The lab tests are teach yourself, he will give you a study guide. Half of the students withdrew.
Great class to learn a lot in. People in my group who withdrew never studied. Dr. P only tests us on stuff he taught us. Every class was lab and lect together which was nice. Labs were hands on. No homework. Treats us like adults.
Awesome professor! I had a rough start trying to transition into his teaching style and lab practicals but if you attend class and keep up with the coursework and lectures you will be fine. I enjoyed his slides and he is extremely intelligent and although some things may be difficult to comprehend and coursework is a lot he is available for help.
I am currently in Nursing school. Took Dr. P for A&P1 and 2. Tough class but I learned alot. I am glad I took him as he prepared us for how tough nursing classes are. Definitely recommend this professor.
What a fantastic professor! Dr. Piercys syllabus is very balanced and gives each student the chance to make an A if they do all of the work. Dr. Piercy is organized and his slides are fantastic! Dr. Piercy will change your mind about professors because as much as he pulls you out of your comfort zone, you will be thankful he was your professor!
Literally, I am not even through the semester and I am writing this review for anyone thinking about taking this class. He does not give you any chances to make up ANYTHING!!!! He does not do classwork and only gives tests and quizzes. HE HAS NO SYMPATHY. DO NOT MISS CLASS EVEN WITH A NOTE HE DOES NOT CARE.
What you want in your A&P class is to be prepared for entering a competitive health science program. Dr. Piercy cares about his students and will make sure you are prepared.
Class Overview: 3 tests 35%, 4 Lab practical 40%, Final 15%, Pop quizzes 10%. Lecture ppt. 90 or so slides each, 1 test 3-4 lectures. Test include multiple-choice, fill-in-blank, T/F questions. Professor does not supplement HW or study guide to assist in learning, just tells us to memorize lectures. Current Class Average is D, Wouldn't recommend!
Piercy is an alright professor. His lectures are great and he has great PowerPoints but that's where it ends. He doesn't provide any homework or extra credit (the EC isnt a huge problem since it's understandable) so there are limited options to practice. All of the grades are based off of 3 tests, a final, and 4 practicals. Go to open Lab and study
Great prof. Easy to understand lectures. Doesnt make you do homework so you can study how you want. Using flash cards is what works for me. Definitely recommend as he treats us like adults.
Good at explaining things. Has group quizzes and drops your lowest so you don't have to bring proof of illness if you miss one. We had 8 exams and 5 quizzes/homework. He gave makeup exams if you missed one. Doesn't try to trick you and he only tested us on things he taught us. I would recommend.
If want doable A or B, don't take! If want a challenge with the risk of getting a C on transcript, then take him. A and P is suppose to be challenging, but the professor makes everything more difficult than it has to be by: Giving pop quizzes, Hard test with multiple choice, T/F, and fill-in-blank that if you misspell, no partial credit.
If you are good at memorizing 400 slides for every test (3 lecture tests), long lists of vocabulary for 4 lab practicals, and pop quizzes, this class is for you. There is no study guide or hw to help you. Finally, Don't ever go to ask him for help bc all he says is studying harder. Personally, i don't think he is a caring prof.
Great teacher. Really good at explaining the material. Wish I took him for ap1. Yeah you have to study because it is a science class. We had some homewrk and group quizzes and he gave us study guides for the practical exams. Would recommend.
Amazing professor. I had a couple of years in between A+P 1 and A+P2, but I was never lost in class. He knows what he is talking about and is genuinely one of my favorite professors! Not an easy course as his tests can be hard but he is willing to teach until you understand. I would definitely recommend to anyone who really wants to learn the info!
Ive taken him for AP1 and now for AP2. He has amazing power points and gives decent lectures but thats where it ends. You are graded by very few things. 1 bad test and good luck even getting a B in his class. The tests have little guidance, just told to memorize all 300 slides of powerpoint. I spent hours upon hours studying and still only got a B.
Good professor. Clearly explains things. Only tests us on what we cover in the class. He makes you learn which helps you prepare for Nursing school. There were 7 exams and some quizzes so there were chances to score points. All A&P classes are difficult because of how much content there is but Dr. Piercy can help you learn the material.
Professor Piercy gives 300-400 power point slides for each test and gives 0 guidance on how to study for it. Tells you to memorize all of it. Doesn't give any hw. Pop quizzes are random. If you miss it you can't make it up even with excuse. Hes decent at giving lectures but thats it. I studied for hours for each test and fell short of a B at a C+.
His class was very enjoyable and I loved his lectures, however he relies a lot on tests and gives random pop quizzes that no one is prepared for. The tests are hard to study for because he gives you 3 or 4 powerpoints with 80 slides each and you have to learn all the information before the test. Never used either textbook that he requires in class.
Good luck with your grade!! My advice, choose a Professor that cares to actually TEACH and help understand the material to his students.
Not an easy A. But if you want a doable A and want to learn a lot, then take Piercy. I got an A and did not find it all that hard if I studied. He is really good at explaining things. Reading the book also helped.
Honestly learned nothing. Not prepared at all for any future science class. His lack of enthusiasm is paired with his sub-par teaching style. Hoping to have better teachers in the nursing school.
Great Professor, he has a lot of experience and knows what he talks about. Pop quizzes here and there, make sure you study if not you wont pass. Take notes and make sure you listen carefully to little details that may be on a test. Practice, study and you should be fine.
Must show up to class! Exams will be what he covers in lecture/powerpoint-no study guide for lecture exams- You are given a study guide for Practicals exams. Like any science, not an easy A but his class will def prepare for future courses. If you are a dedicated student, I would DEF recommend him! if you're lazy, then this is not the class for you.
if you're a great test taker then take him. if not, RUN. your grades are based only off tests. Lectures are long and draining. too much information all at once to actually learn. There are better professors out there, just sayin.
Considering this is during the pandemic, idk how he is in person. But online? Awful. Each chapter, he gives a 90 slide PP. The exams are HARD. He tells us to study about 4hrs per day. Includes mult-choice, fill-in, & extended. 2/3 of the class failed exam 1 (MOST in 50s & 30s). He said we weren't studying but obvi his teaching needs work. RUN AWAY
I would recommend him. He made videos of the powerpoints and he was quick to answer my email. He met with me on zoom to talk about the class. It is a tough class because of all we need to learn. I had to withdraw because I have to much going on, but I will take him again next semester.
Well structured online class. Professor gives you everything you need to learn. He made lecture videos and lab learning guides. We had discussions assigments and weekly quizzes. The online lab stuff was pretty good and had practice quizzes. The professor was quick to answer email and had zoom office hours. Was a good online class.
Horrible. I would not recommend this professor to anyone needing to take this class. Do not ask for extra credit because thats a straight no. The class material was dense, but this class was beyond stressful.
If youre not a good test taker RUN. This class is extremely dense. You have 9 chapters of material to learn like the back of your hand in one semester. He does not give much room for error. Your entire grade is basically test scores. Mostly fill in the blank exams. Mostly self taught course. Teacher is intimidating and condescending. Hard course.
This class was tough but I learned so much. He does help prepare you for the next class. He met me over zoom whenever I had a question. The class discussions were good. I never had to study before this class so the study plan assignment helped alot.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRFESSOR. He's lecture does not help and he gives 2 quizzes per week on honor lock and yes he does watch you take them and they are not multiple choice and if you misspelled he takes points off.. He does not care about your grades don't take him
Best online class i have taken at Valencia. He has actual videos of him teaching doesn't just tell you to go read the book.
DR Piercy is a great professor, took him during the summer term ,lectures were summarized nicely and not overly long. Gave two weekly quizzes with little to no assignments, which gives students plenty of time to learn the material. I got an A- I will be taking for A&PII as well.
I don't really enjoy online courses, particularly ones with a lab component, but Dr. Piercy's A & P 1 class was excellent. There is a lot of material to cover, and I can't imagine a way to pass this course without being committed to studying, but his lectures are interesting and keep you engaged. Great professor- will be taking him for A & P 2.
A lecture & Lab quiz due every week. Both tests are open ended, no multiple choice. Uses honor lock & views the videos. There are around 80+ PowerPoints and tests you on about 10 things without a study guide so you have no idea what to study out of the 80+ slides. Second class I had to ever withdraw from. Take someone else.
Great professor that gives you all the material you need for the quizzes and tests via his powerpoints. Definitely have to study hard but he makes it easy and is always ready to answer questions. I took him for AP2 too.
I took A and P 1 and 2 with Dr. Piercy. He is by far the best professor Ive ever had. You will absolutely have to put in work to learn the material, but hes very supportive and accessible if you run into problems. Highly recommend taking him.
