DONT TAKE HIM...terrible...So much writing!!!, not only do you have to write the required 3 papers, he assigns 1-2 page papers practically daily for homework. He is sarcastic, rude, and a straight up shotty prof. Class is really boring too
Don't take his class unless you LOVE Literature! Is very challenging, blunt, and passionate and knowledgeable about the subject--he will make you think. A LOT of class discussion. A LOT of reading and writing. Your writing must already good for you to do well in this class.
Professor Plattner is quite educated on the subject of english. Listen well, write nice papers, and you should be fine, so long as you don't miss more than 5 classes. He hates tardiness.
I thought he was a great teacher and he also took interest in the students individually. He IS sarcastic but I found him funny. A lot of writing so if you don't enjoy writing you are in the wrong class. I loved it and have already signed up for 1102 with him.
He is different and takes time to get use to his style of teaching. I would recommend not judging too hard the first few days. He gives a lot of writing, but this is the what the class is made to be about.
Just a great teacher
I highly recommend him for anyone with a medium to high interest in English. I love reading, and his discussions in class were awesome. He is available in his office or in the hallways of the English building all the time.
He is rushed. He always seemed to be too busy and was not very helpful at all. He did not give very good direction in his assignments and when you would ask him to clarify he never seemed to do so.
This professor had a very poorly planned class. He seemed to "wing" the daily class activities. I did not learn anything in this class. He was also unfair in his grading: Giving special preference to students. I would defiantly advise everyone to pass on this professor.
Platner is a good man. He knows the material he assigns well and is an excellent discussion leader. Discussion is an important part of the class and you should at least be a good listener if you sign on. If you happen to have an OPINION you should take him because he values these. Warning: healthy amount of reading and writing involved. =]
First impression was a little shaky, but you just have to get used to his discussion-heavy teaching style. He's a good man, very interested in literature and WILL respectfully want to hear your views; so be prepared. Mandatory attendance, grades fairly but not "easy". Consistent, broad-topic assignments. Got an A. You won't regret taking him.
Loved the class! A lot of reading, but if you just take notes on the discussions in class then the papers will be very easy. Very nice man. No tests or quizzes. Just papers. Got an A in the course so it was pretty easy! And he gives several extra credit opportunities.
horrible teacher. wings the daily assignments. grades hard. expects u to write a certain way. 2 pg paper daily
I have read everyone's reviews and I disgree he's very fair and like 1 said if you don't like writing this isn't for you. Very easy no preferential treatment but doesn't like those who don't participate so if you speak up you'll have a better grade. Yes he is sarcastic but it's all in fun. He treats everyone very fairly. Take him great prof take!
Really nice and helpful guy. If you want adequate practice writing this professor is the one for you. Although there are quite a lot of writing assignments (somewhere around 4 to turn in each week) most of them are short and don't take too long. Grades consist of lots of writing assignments and 4 major essays. Frequent class discussions too.
Very chill. Seems to care a lot about his students. He can be pushed into giving extensions. There is a lot of writing assignments that you have to write a minimum of two pages for. Overall though he is a good teacher.
Mr Plattner is a very nice guy. He's chill and likes to talk with the class about the writing assignments and what's going on. There is a lot of writing, but it isn't hard stuff. You do have to read a little bit. There are 4 big essays- 3-4 pages, but they are easy as well. If you don't like to write, do not take this class.
Horrible teacher, little help..... didnt respect students, favoritism, lots of quizes on random stuff... A LOT of reading
Took for english 1101, during summer semester. Great teacher, provided valuable feedback for each rough draft, made talk interesting. There was a lot of writing, but once you finished in class you could leave. I would definitely take him again, this was the first english teacher i have ever liked.
Decent professor. Funny. Pretty much always lets class out early. Lots of reading, but it's not too bad. Quizzes are alright if you come to class, take notes and study. Gives chances for bonus. Keeps class interesting. Only wrote one essay, plus two for extra credit. Takes attendance 10 times throughout semester. I would recommend this professor.
He gives alot of hw but the hw is easyt quick 2 page papers. He gives about 4 major grade papers which he reviews before you turn in and writes out all your mistakes you go back and fix them and then turn in your paper. Great class if you do just show up and do the easy work
He was a pretty good teacher a lot of class/homework everyday almost He gave a lot of homework everyday at least one two page paper. he was real big on not messing up works cited Vry helpful with papers told u exactly what u did rong atten. was mandatory 5 absences u fail will make u a better writer i wouldnt take him 2x gramer not 2 big w/ him tho
I had him over the summer. It was pretty easy, we got to class and he would have our assignment on vista and once you were done you could leave. He was pretty helpful when needed, but the class was already pretty easy.
He's a good teacher, for the most part. Very clear about what he expects and likes to see. However, he assigns ridiculous amounts of homework. At least one new essay each class, sometimes stacked upon ones you're already working on. Only take his class if you REALLY don't mind writing a lot.
It was a bit of writing, but it is great practice for my history classes. He has a very discussion oriented class style. Opinions are important in his class, because too many people siding with him is a pointless class.
Good at explaining what he wants from you. Great at explaining the material, so everyone understands. A lot of reading, but it IS a world lit class! One essay, really easy, even for those who have trouble with the "deeper meaning" of lit. Gives extra credit group activities. Overall if you show up and do the readings, you will do great!
This class is absolutely ridiculous. The grading system makes it impossible to get an A. Homework is graded out of 5 points, and essays out of 10. On top of that, homework assignments are 3 essays long and are usually all done in one class period. If you don't write like he wants, forget a good grade. Ridiculous.
If you hate writing, DO NOT TAKE HIM. Homework assignments are like 3 papers each and usually due in one class period. All you do in class is write using a prompt. He's sarcastic and confusing when you ask him questions/advice.
Plattner was a decent Literature Professor. Sometimes he was a bit sarcastic with his explanations or anaylasis of the stories. Always read the required story/s prior to class. There were 6 quizes in the semester. One essay to write and a Final for 20 percent of your grade. Don't try to ask for any of your grades to be changed.he does not doit
This man is passionate about his job..but is very annoying...he wants people opinons but when he doesn't agree with you your scores go down. just repeat what he says and you will pass
After reading others' comments about him, I was really worried about taking this class. You basically just have writing prompts every day in class, and then a discussion. Read your book when writing essays; it helps a lot. Once you figure out the way he expects you to write, its so easy. LOVED this class. I would definitely recommend him.
I really enjoy english, but this guy took it to a whole other level. I didn't enjoy the whole "here's your writing prompt for the day sit and type for an hour". I didn't feel as though he explained anything or taught. I also would ask him questions and would still be confused after his response. I'm sure he worked for some people. Not me.
Great Professor, if you have a choice choose his class. He really involves the students
Do not take him over summer! Pretty boring man. He gives up a new paper to write every hour then you have to turn them in the next class. The prompts are not meaningful and he gives the same prompt multiple times but you have to write a different paper each time. He expects you to sit and type for 3 hours. No talking is allowed.
Great professor. Best English teacher I have ever had. He is very helpful with reading drafts and telling you what else you need to do. Doesn't make you pick a writing prompt from a narrow field, you get to choose. There are class discussion where the class talks about student papers which is very helpful.
There was tons of reading and even more in-class discussions to be had. I was reluctant to take this course at first, but by the end of it, I missed it. Plattner challenges you to think and contribute, and really grow as a reader. I would recommend this professor if you're serious about your education.
proff.Plattner very helpful instructor, very encouraging. He is one of the best instructor i have ever encounter i will encourage any one to take is class.
kinda sarcastic but an overall great professor! i took him over the summer.only 1 essay and maybe 6-7 quizzes. quizzes cover material discussed in class so attendance is a MUST. wants to see you succeed! quizzes are all short answer and so is final with a few essays. it sounds rough-but he provides you with all the info. you need to succeed!A+
the very best proffesor
Great teacher. Only one paper and I never used the books. All of the stories are online and that is where I read them all and I still did well on all the quiz's. He gives about 10 quiz's and you write one paper and then the final.
He has a horrible grading style if you dont get a good grade on one of his quizes the best you can get is a C. I was there everyday but had to go to my grandfather's funeral so I missed one quiz and let him know. With a 95 on final and all other grades As or Bs - still got a C because of 1 quiz. Grading Style Sucks and LOTS of reading!!!
He changed the way I see Liturature. Plattner challenged my thoughts and views without putting myself or anyone down. You could have your own views as long as you could support them. Lots of reading and must attend class but well worth the trip! I have to say he is on my list for one of the TOP 5 Professors at KSU.
Easy class. I don't like lit but his discussions were interesting!! Don't buy the book bc you can find all the stories online. He only requires you to write one paper and has quizes on a regular basis. The lowest grade i made on a quiz was a 70 and I never even opened the book. Great professor. :)
Dr. Plattner is amazing! If you are going to take fiction, take it with him. He's tough, but anyone who wants to be a GOOD writer needs someone tough to help them. I have taken him for both fiction classes, and I have seen myself grow a lot with his help. 2 stories, 2 micro-stories, line edits for all of the stories, and responses to 30 stories.
English is not once of my subjects of choice, but the class was presented well. Quizzes are told a week in advance and tells you what stories will be on it so just read them. If you don't read you will not pass a reading class obviously. Professor is extremely helpful one on one and respectful to all students. Great professor
Dr. Plattner is awesome! he loves discussion, and always has great things to say about the works to read. only one paper, and several easy quizzes, if you do the readings and pay attention in class. goes over everything you need for quizzes and paper. likes to hear other's opinons.even if you don't like english, take him for sure. you won't regret!
He is ok. asks that you over analyses things and that's all you talk about in the class. There are better teachers out there.
Great professor but seems to push students to his view point which is riddiculous since everyone has a different view point. Lots of reading! Easy B or C. Will have to work hard for your A.
Not a bad professor. Does tend to get into a lot of detail in essays but will take time to talk with you and help you. decent 1101 class. As long as you show up to class and turn in your work you should be ok. Does write a lot of papers but helps you through them.
This professor is the worst I have ever had. His class is atleast 90 to 150 students, and he will talk to one student. He is soft spoken and can not hear him unless you are in the front row. His attendance isnt mandatory but will take it on occasion for points. 6 quizzes, that are ridiculous from the information he covers. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!
Plattner is a great teacher. this class could be an easy A or B if you read all of the stories. There are 6 quizzes from the required readings, 1 paper(4 pages)attendance grade and a final.IF YOU DO NOT READ YOU WILL NOT PASS!!!
He is a wonderful teacher. If you can TAKE HIM! he is very laid back, but assigns in class writings a bunch. He also assigns parts out of the book to read, but there aren't any quizzes. Also, if anything is unclear he will explain it as many times as you need. TAKE PLATTNER HE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Plattner is very easy when it comes to grading. He's laid back about due dates. He does give monotonous in-class assignments, but some do help to develop your papers. Likes to have discussions in class. Easy A if you do your work.
Overall, great teacher. No quizzes or tests which is awesome. Hardly used our textbook. Just lots and lots of writing. Several 1000 word essays with multiple homework writing assignments in between. Although, he is very laid back and is extremely helpful, encouraging you to make use of his office hours.
Loved him, such a pleasure to be around and my favorite professor thus far at KSU. There is a lot of reading in the World Literature but as long as you go to class he explains everything crystal clear. He is such a delight I would recommend him to anyone!
Really nice guy! Classes were boring but a lot of discussions to keep you involved. Quizzes were really hard if you did not read the book or tried to get by on just sparknotes. Does not take attendance but 10 times out of the semester.
Not an easy A but if you are not lazy a B is very realistic and As are achievable. Clear instruction, willing to clear up any confusion during or after class. 100 points total, 10 attendance counts 1 point each, 6 quizzes 10 point each, 1 essay 10 points, Cumulative final 20 points. If you have a problem let him ASAP and do not miss a quiz.
You have to read the assignments; reading the sparknotes will get you by for class but to make a good grade you need to have actually read. He only has 10 quizzes and then the final. For a mandatory literature class I enjoyed him.
Prof. Plattner is an incredibly proficient instructor. English has always been my weakest subject but Prof. Plattner legitimately cares for his students and makes sure to give every student one on one time to discuss every essay in depth. He is incredibly nice and is a genuinely good professor. The class is perfectly structured for an into class.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST. THE HARDEST ENGLISH PROFESSOR AT KSU. He takes attendance daily. He is a hard grader, also he is super biased. JUST DON'T TAKE HIM, UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL.
This class by far was the hardest class I took in my freshman year. Get ready to write a lot of papers. And each paper has to be 3-4 pages long. But he is a easy guy to talk to, he will help you out if you need it. Good luck, if you have him. You'll need it. NOT A EASY A.
best teacher i have ever had. dont leave kennesaw without taking a class taught by plattner. i have take three classes with him thus far and signed up for one next semester as well. he is brilliant and interesting. dont miss out on the opportunity to learn from him
Professor Plattner is very clear about whats on the tests. Reasonable grader and a very good teacher! Just read and come to class and you'll do great. Take attendance ten times over the semester.
Dr. Plattner is my favorite professor at KSU so far. He is extremely helpful and kind. There is a fair amount of work, but it is all very worthwhile and completely related to the topic. If you do not already know the basics of grammar/organization, this is not the class for you. It is a college level english course, and it is taught like one.
I absolutely love Mr. Plattner. I wasa good writer beforehand. was a little worried about people saying he assigns a lot of homework. he does give many hw assignments, but he gives you ample amount of time. he is very approachable. Very nice. there are like 6 essays to do. take advantage of turning in the rough drafts! I made an A+ in his class.
Dr. Plattner Andrew is a wonderful professor. He is one of my favorite professors at KSU. He is clever, very knowledge and passionate for world Literature.
This guy is a really good professor. one thing yo need to understand is that his work isn't hard at all its just a little tedious. Honestly so glad that i had him and would take him again any day! clever, and gives good feedback. he will stay after class and talk to you about what you might need help with (and he's actually helpful)!
easy b if you read and study. apply yourself for an a. one paper, cumulative final, easy quizzes, random mandatory attendance. class isn't boring. dr. plattner is a great professor. if you're not super lazy, take him; you'll pass.
You have to be willing to work and read. However he is a great professor and I never found myself dreading this class. His quizzes can be really specific but if you do your reading you'll be fine. Only one essay really easy and he is a great help.
He was a great professor. He did give a lot of writing assignments, but he worked with us one on one to help up improve. He is very good about grading. He grades fairly and gives us our grade the next class after turning something in. Take him.
Great guy who really cares about how his students do. Willing to help any of his students if they ask for it. Lets students turn in a rough draft for every paper to be reviewed before it is graded. GREAT PROFESSOR.
Mr. Plattner has a distant method for instruction. If I had to say one thing positive about his class, it is this: Read what he has written. He will give you numerous examples how it should be done. Ignore them. I encourage you to read "Winter Money" - a Hemingwayesc, and "A Marriage of Convenience" - haven't read it yet, but will. You should too.
TAKE HIM! I am not a big reader, but with a world LIT class I had no choice! the readings & class discussions are interesting. he is crystal clear & covers every quiz question in class. read and show up & you'll love him.
Take him! I am not a huge fan of literature, but I loved this class! The class is basically a class discussion on many short stories, plays, and dramas. He really helps you look deep into literature. There are 6 quizzes, 10 attendance counts, and a final. The lowest I got on a quiz was a 9/10. If you show up to class and read, this is an easy A!
Dr. Platter creates a pretty unique environment for the class to analytically discuss classic literature. I did not expect to enjoy the class as much as I did. If you actually get into the assignments and try to understand what the works are aiming at, it becomes quite a fun class. 10/10 would take again.
You have to work hard to get an A in this class. However, Mr. Plattner is one of the better english professor at ksu
He's a Tyrant. If classes are not held the way that he intends for them to be held he'll threaten your grade. Doesn't believe that constructive conversations are how to hold a writing workshop and it's his way or no way at all. His feedback is okay, but when you want to rely on your peers, you can't because they're not allowed to talk. Don't Take!
Dr. Plattner is a wonderful professor. He is there for you if you need help. I took this class over the summer and had a lot of papers to write, however he gives you time in class to do most of the homework. He believes in fair grading, how much effort you put in is the grade you will get out.
The class is basically discussion. If you're not going to read you should go to class and listen- you might be able to make a C on the quizzes. 10 'random' attendance counts for grade were always the class after each quiz. Cumulative final where you need to know story titles, authors and their nationality, time period (century), and short answer.
It was not a difficult class. Do the reading and go to lectures and you will be fine. Several quizzes and one final exam and a paper that was 3-4 pages. He is willing to give feedback on papers before you turn them in and I would suggest utilizing that.
Do NOT take this professor. I worked really really really hard in this class & received a B. I never once made higher than an 80 on the main papers & he gives homework every single lecture which makes you feel like you're always having something to do for his class. I do not think he is a fair grader. What ever you do, don't take him!
Dr. Plattner was the most influential professor I have ever had. Been a few years, but I remember and learned the most from him out of my many professors. Wonderful writer, teacher, and over-all quality human being. I was fortunate to take his class and wish he would teach more fiction classes. If you want to write well, take him. Excellent prof!
He's a great teacher, just need to pay attention in class to what he says. He gets into a lot of detail with the stories you read. As for quizzes, they are easy if you read it, for the most part you can spark notes it and be fine, but he does go into some pretty hardcore detail on some of them
He is a very passionate teacher and expects you to care about the readings as much as he does. It is a generally easy class and you could get a low B if you just Sparknotes the entire class. VERY quiz heavy and the quizzes are VERY specific. He is a lenient grader. Just if you take this class be prepared to do some work.
As long as you do the reading and know them pretty well you'll get an A. I sparknoted everything and did bout half of the readings and got a B, he does not grade hard and there were like 5-6 extra credit opportunities to bring your final grade up by 1 point each. Random attendance checks, so we careful when you skip
Loved this class, It's enjoyable, and you'll do well if you pay attention and be involved in the class discussions. You have to read the assigned readings, so you can understand the discussions. He takes "random attendance", most times it fell on the quiz days. He offers a make-up quiz and several extra credit group assignments. Great guy.
Dr. Plattner was awesome. He genuinely cares for his students- he learned everyone's name that participated and gave super detailed feedback on the one paper you have to write. When I got really sick he worked with me to catch up and not fail due to my absences. He does randomly take attendance and it's 10% of your grade. Just read and go to class.
Dr. Plattner has by far been one of the best professors I have had. He cares about each and every one of his students, and is very clear as to what he expects from every assignment.
I really enjoyed Dr Plattner's summer class. You have creative freedom to choose topics to write about. Most essays are 750 words minimum, final is 1500 minimum. But be warned, you will have a lot of homework writing to do. Extra credit for volunteering for critiquing as well. I would recommend and take again.
He is by far the most annoying professor I have ever had at ksu. The quizzes are for the most part not on content. You need to know the authors life, the content of the novel, and analyze characters. The essays are easy. However, if I could pick another professor I would. He is the most mono toned person ever. Tried my hardest not to drop his class
The class isn't too difficult if you read the works and pay attention. If you don't want to buy the books, you can find the audio versions on youtube for almost everything assigned. There are also two short essays that he doesn't grade too harshly. Random attendance checks. Great teacher, definitely recommend.
It is almost impossible to make a 100 on his tests, no matter how much you read. There are 6 quizzes, and they ultimately determine your final grade in the class.
Be prepared to read a lot. We read 27 texts in this class, some being novels, short stories, and poems. You have to read the texts if you want to pass the class. Aside from the reading load, he is a great professor. He goes into detail for each text analyzing it with the class, which will help on the quizzes and the final. Taking notes will help!
Great professor who makes sure everyone is on the same page and prepared for the quizzes. Show up to class and you will do fine on the 6 quizzes he assigns. You have to read for the class, but not that much- maybe a short story and a few poems every week. 2 papers, but they are short and he is readily available to give feedback before you submit.
He's a great professor. He takes attendance every day and he gives extra credit. His quizzes are very specific so reading the material is absolutely necessary. Pay attention to what he says because it will be on tests. He's available outside of class and gives great feedback on papers. Overall, it's a pretty easy class.
If you are an aspiring writer or looking to improve your writing skills, I cannot recommend Dr. Plattner's class highly enough. The core of the class I took was centered around a "workshop", where everyone critiques each other's writings throughout the week (you'll write two short stories yourself). It's all a truly exceptional learning experience.
Just excellent. Yes, there is a lot of reading. Hello, it's Lit! But truly excellent class discussions. Dr. Plattner listens and guides you to understand the stories. Many of the works were incredible to read. The class discussions should prepare you for what will be on the quizzes. He does take attendance from time to time. Love how he teaches.
Great teacher. This was an easy grade. Just read the texts (which, although high in number, are actually short reads, no big deal) and show up to his lectures. He makes it easy to understand the text and has a great sense of humor. Essays were incredibly easy. Quizzes weren't very difficult. Would definitely reccommend!
There's a lot of reading (around 30 short stories, poems, and books), but there are discussions in class that essentially give you the answers to the quizzes. He keeps the class engaged and guides you to see literary works from different angles. The quizzes can sometimes be specific, but if you just look over the main stuff you'll easily pass.
Loved this class! This professor is so nice and he's very chill but funny during class. It seems like he likes the books we are reading, so it makes it easy for the class to like them too. Participation isn't mandatory, but showing up for class is. He gives in depth discussions about the works that are the foundation of the quizzes. Only two essays
This professor is so sweet. He loves what he does. You need to read. We read 37 total titles so do not wait till the day of the quiz or the week before the final exam. Do the work. If you show up to class and read the readings then quizzes are a breeze. Make a study guide for the final to insure a great grade. This professor is great.
All I gotta say is if you dont like to read or make notes, dont take him. Hes an amazing professor but all your grades will be based off if you read or not. He gives good feedback and wants you to exceed, you just gotta be prepared to read every week. Attendance is also required btw.
An awesome teacher who has a strict way he will grade and he explains how he grades many times throughout the semester
This teacher is very fair and clear on how he grades. There is a lot of reading, but none of the works are too hard to get through. As long as you read and show up for class discussion you will do fine. The class discussion is key to understanding the works and doing well on the quizzes, but he doesn't randomly call people out. Very great class
Dr. Plattner is great! You do have to read a lot for this class but he makes sure it's all spread out. His lectures are really interesting and he makes sure you understand everything before your tests. There are only 2 papers for the semester and they are both pretty short. He grades fairly and you can tell he really knows what he's talking about.
I had him for this semester, and absolutely loved him. English is not my thing, but he made it engaging and seemed to genuinely care about what he was teaching and who he was teaching. The readings weren't too long, and if you showed up for discussions you didn't even really have to read at all.
Be prepared to read at least one part of a book a day, minimum, with tests every two weeks with random questions that you need to get EXACTLY right or no credit.
He's absolutely amazing! He gives lots of SWA and only about 4 essays, but his criteria is usually clear. He keeps it free for creative flow and he just is an overall great professor. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
We had 4 essays in the class with a final essay. The entire class was based on argumentation, but you were able to chose the topic of your essays. That made the class extremely easy to me. He was always caring and would work with you one-on-one. I wish he thought other English classes so that I could take him again.
Nice and available for 1 on 1 feedback
I had Plattner for 1101 and he was the best dude ever. Decided to take him again for world lit and it was a disaster. Not many people are honest on here, but I probably would have gotten an A if I tried. Your grade in the class is based on 7 quizzes-and they're hard. Basically its a boring easy class if you read and study. I withdrew.
Professor Plattner made and English course that is different from all the others I've taken by turning the class more into an open discussion vs a traditional read and write. He is very calm and easy going and does not grade harshly. As long as you try to participate and act interested he will go easy on the whole class. Loved his course.
Had to buy/rent six books just for this class. Make sure you know how to analyze poems and stories very well, that is what this entire class is about. He really did me dirty and left my grade at an 89. I would recommend a different professor that will not leave you with loads of reading to do knowing we have other classes.
He is one of my favorite professors on campus, so I am bias. He's great at giving feedback, very caring, explains to everyone what he wants & he will talk to you if you really need it. He's very professional when needs be, & friendly when you need him. When it comes to the class work, he directs you as much as he can
I had heard so many good things about Dr. Plattner prior to approaching him for a directed study course. Needless to say, I was very let down by his lack of interest and investment in our work throughout the semester. He was incredibly rude and a bit flirtatious, which made me uncomfortable. Luckily, I only made the mistake of taking him once.
I recommend this course to anyone if Dr. Plattner is the instructor! His class is highly engaging and entertaining. His discussions are thought provoking and worth participating in because it helps the class as a whole understand new perspectives. The content was worth the read; he chooses the best authors and stories that touch the heart and soul.
Dr. Plattner is a professor who is passionate about fiction writing, literature, and art. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, flexible, and gives great feedback. I loved the structure of his online fict writing class, and I actually miss it! It helped me improve so much as a writer. 10/10 would recommend.
Prof Plattner was genuinely engaged in the class and the reading materials. His classes are group discussions. Quizzes every other week. Quizzes and final are extremely difficult and detail oriented. A ton of reading. You have to read and go to class if you want any chance of passing. He's a good teacher but he makes it a hard class.
He is a pretty good professor, you can tell that he knows what he is talking about but definitely need to be in class to figure out the quizzes. But if you are in class and have skimmed the readings then the quizzes are super easy. There's two essays but he will definitely talk it through with you if you ask.
Hes a very smart professor and knows what hes teaching. But his quizzes are so hard, you have to memorize so many readings and if you just need to take this course to get a credit TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. We had atleast 15+ readings throughout the entire semester. he does not do extra credit.
There were 37 readings this semester, between poems, books, short stories. The 6 quizzes are so detail oriented, there is no way to remember everything that is on the quizzes. The final is over all 37 readings. It is just all memorization, so if youre good at that then youll be fine.
I love this man. He's a fricking GENIUS. There are a LOT of readings, but they're interesting, and he talks through them in class. Definitely do the readings though, because all the grade points are heavy on the details. Attendance is spontaneously mandatory but actually going to class makes the material 100x easier to understand.
Despite never having a virtual meeting with him, he still provided lots of opportunities to receive feedback. From what I remember, he did weekly worksheets, two essays, and a final exam, all of which are incredibly easy if you put in effort. He offers some good feedback on the discussion questions, but those aren't needed to get a good grade.
Dr. Plattner has given me some of the best, most valuable writing advice through the two courses I've had with him. He's funny, but very honest and truthful, which is what most writers need. He was good at facilitating discussion, even with deep/sensitive topics, and very skilled at getting writers where they need to be. Blunt, but supportive.
Fiction writing is a pretty straight forward class. Feedback and discussions around my and others stories was very helpful. I enjoyed this class a lot and Dr. Plattner made me believe in my writing again. Definitely take it if you are looking to get into fiction writing
Easy class and nice professor. Take it! You read short stories from the textbook (all of the stories are online, so you don't need it), participate in discussions (not even required), and take the quizzes (questions with short answers, 100-200 words). 2 essays, 400-500 words about any story you pick. He gives feedback on every quiz + essay
He is so awesome! Super sweet, quizzes every week but easy to pass if you read the poetry!
Plattner's ENGL2110 class is no walk in the park. Lots of reading, quizzes, and a heavy focus on analysis. But if you put in the effort and use study tools like Unstuck AI, you can do well. Attendance is mandatory, so don't slack off. Overall, a challenging but rewarding course.
I took professor Plattner's World Lit course this summer, and he was great. All of his instructions and deadlines were very clear. As long as you actually read the meterial and turn your stuff in on time, you will do excellent in his class.
Mr. Plattner is a very good professor, he is very clear with what he expects, grading criteria, instructions, and deadlines. The course consisted of a few essays, which were not long, and quizzes that each go over about 2 weeks of reading. As long as you are willing to read, participate, and turn in your work on time you will definitely pass.
