Not particularly accommodating with regard to absences, even university excused ones, and participation counts for a significant part of your grade. Gives pop quizzes, which you can't make up for ANY reason. Lectures seemed a bit scattered. That said, good class if you've never interacted with people of other religions. Meh at best if you have.

Unfortunately, I wish I didn't take this class because I don't need it for my major or for generals. Dr. Reed is very knowledgeable, but I wasn't intrigued during his lectures. Lots of quizzes, but he does offer a lot of extra credit. There are only two tests: a midterm and a final. Also, he requires you to write an investigation paper.

I never got the feeling that Dr. Reed enjoys teaching about religion. In fact I never got the feeling that he had a testimony or felt the spirit in his class. Dr. Reed's class was graded strictly on papers and he doesn't grade them too harshly. There are no dumb multiple-choice tests. He really wants you to understand and think. My perspective on the world and religion changed for the better due to his class. He also offers some extra credit opportunities that are actually really cool. He's a great guy.

I really enjoyed his class! Super interesting lectures and readings. I liked that we only had one midterm. We watched a lot of videos about other religions, which was super interesting. Would definitely recommend!

LOVED Dr. Reed! Genuinely cares for his student's success. He is super smart and his lectures are more like class discussions which made them way more interesting. Only a few papers make up your entire grade but he is a really easy grader so don't worry about it. Offers lots of extra credit opportunities. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

Offers Extra credit but you are not likely to need it. Only graded on a few short papers and the take-home essays tests. Class is conducted like its philosophy, daily readings used in the papers. No busy work and no attendance required. Worth it for a low-effort relaxing lecture period. Readings and lecture topics are even intriguing at times.

Dr. Reed is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject of world religions and does a great job of teaching about each religion, but more than anything he really inspires his students to learn from the good in other religions and encourages inter-faith cooperation. The class was graded off of very few assignments, but he is an easy grader.

The lectures were always very dry. It may just be the subject, but I felt like Professor Reed went above and beyond with pretentious mannerisms. I have no doubt that he knows what he's talking about... but *I* don't know what he is talking about. Maybe there's too much content for 1 semester in the class, especially for a 2-credit elective.

This was such a cool class to take for a religion credit! Professor Reed was a good professor. He gave us lots of opportunities for extra credit that related to respecting other religions - I went to a few and they were really neat. Lots of reading but I found it interesting so it wasn't too bad. A few papers as well but grading was very fair.

He was a very fun professor to take from. He knows his stuff and has some really powerful lectures. The content of the lectures is not on the test though. It all comes from the textbook. It's a bit challenging for a religion class, but it's not too bad for the Global Awareness GE requirement.

I think this was an off-semester from what I've read in the past. The course was extremely disorganized! I took it because I read that he didn't have tests, but only papers. Well, that's the opposite now. Tests, which multiple choice was harder than expected, and one paper. Lots of busy work which can be educational. Canvas was not his friend.

World Religion Class I will say inspired me deeply to do more as an individual to learn and understand those around me. Often going through faith crisis, this class helped my testimony grow & learn the importance of always seeking for good & truth. There are many extra credit opportunities and Professor Reed is very fair in working with students.

Good lecturer - he is extremely knowledgeable. His final was an essay that was difficult but better than a final. YOU GET OUT WHAT YOU PUT IN - that's cheesy but it's especially true for this class. If you actually want to learn, do the readings!

I took his class hybrid so I only saw him once a week. Lectures were good and he was clear on all the topics. He was also really good at relating the lessons to us and explain them in ways we can understand. The assignment load was great, I didn't feel overloaded and the assignments we had were straightforward.

Dr. Reed is an amazing professor who is clearly passionate about what he teaches. I took this class as a blended course which has a lot of work due at the end of each week, but I found it amazing that I was able to learn all that I could in one semester. You get what you put into it, but I can't recommend this class or Dr. Reed enough.

Dr. Reed is great! Understanding and aware of his students with interesting lectures. Spring class entailed 200 word after class writing, simple assignments about each religion you discuss, 4-5 page paper, and a midterm and final. Lectures are heavily discussion based which occasionally made them hit or miss depending on other students comments.

I took the blended course, and I wish I had taken it all in-person because I enjoyed his class so much, although I didn't love the online portion. He was great at teaching world religions in such a way that was inclusive, interesting, and respectful. I learned about how to approach people of faith and he taught the information in an inspiring way.

This was putting me to sleep. It is so much reading with little to no structure during the class. He had no PowerPoints and a weak lesson plan - I have been confused with what to take notes on/ what is important to know. You have a lot of readings before class and then during class, you mainly just talk about the readings.

The class was very reading and writing heavy, with 20+ pages to read per lecture and essays due every couple weeks. The exams are free-response, and the questions are hard to understand. Your grade is based entirely on papers and exams. If you love reading and writing, this might be the class for you, otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it

Dr. Reed is very kind and fun. However, lectures were unstructured, unfocused, and disorganized. Rather than discussing the customs, beliefs, and practices of world religions, Dr. Reed would delve into convoluted tangents about various philosophical subjects. I also felt that grading was very, very subjective.

If you want to participate in thought provoking discussions, go to class. If you don't, you can still get an A. Papers were easy and the final only took me a few hours. One of the best religion classes I had - no crazy tests, very gospel centered and respectful, and I actually enjoyed going to class and I was never stressed about my grade. 10/10

Do the extra credit & you'll get a good grade. If you want to learn about what religions believe and their history, not your class. If you want to learn how religions fit into the world (what is religion, why we have it, etc.) this is your class. He is not the best lecturer, but the class is lecture heavy. The max score on the final was 95%, he expects a lot from students. He also does not grade for long periods of time, so you will not know how you are doing until finals are over. I don't recommend this unless you already know a lot about world religions. Not entry level class.

The entire class is based on essays which are subjectively graded, and the professor doesn't provide any feedback on the grade you received. He doesn't give 100 on the midterm or the final. Highest score on the midterm was 95 and final was 92. Lectures are scattered and not worth the time attending unless there is an in class assignment.

I actually took another course. Professor Reed is amazing. He clearly strives to bring inspiring ideas and perspectives to class. The workload was fair and not overwhelming. I also liked how he made an effort to provide opportunities to engage with the material outside of just assignments, including through service projects and interfaith dialogue.

One of the most bizarre classes ever. Professor Reed is kind and understanding, but his lectures and assignments were very abstract and random. It took him forever to grade the assignments and I had no idea where I stood in the class until way after finals. He was lenient with my late work and an easy grader if you completed the assignments.

Interesting lectures, lots of readings. I think it was maybe an off semester for him, cancelled class a lot and took a very long time for grading. Only had 6% of the class graded by finals, which was stressful because you don't know where you stand. Essay based exams. Only 2-3 assignements in the entire course, so get extra credit when you can.

If you do all your assignments, you can easily get a good grade in the class. His lectures don't really related the assignments in class, so don't get stress out about writing down every single little thing he says. Cancelled class a lot, which is nice because class doesn't related to the grade you will received.
