Andrew Richardson is the man! He was so well prepared for class and he showed an enthusiasm for math that was almost addicting. I would recommend him to anybody! He's so awesome! I hope he teaches 115 next year too cuz I would so take another class from him.
Andrew is a stud.
Pretty good teacher I guess, he could be a little bit more prepared for lectures and look over homework a little bit more before answering questions in class.
He is an awesome teacher. Very good at explaining the material, I actually perfer him (a grad student) over the other math proffesors who I have now. Class isn't boring, he can be funny.
Great teacher. Explained the material well.
Andrew was a really nice guy...very willing to help out students who needed it. Very passionate about his subject and pretty humerous throughout lectures. the only thing i wasn't too happy about was that all of his tests were at least 75% word problems...not a true reflection of a student's grade.
Andrew is amazing at what he does! He gets so excited about the material that it gets your attention and gets you interested. I have had 3 different math teachers at WWU and he is the best one I have had so far. He is also very willing to help. I can never make it to his office hours, so email is the best thing and he is super quick to respond.
Andrew is a good guy. He is really enthusiastic about math and gets you interested. He goes over homework questions everyday, and encourages people to come see him during his office hours, so he is helpful. Tests are moderately difficult, but if you know what you're doing, you'll do just fine. I definitely recommend him.
Lecture style, answers homework questions before moving on.
Andrew is super helpful and really wants everyone to succeed. He is more than fair dropping the lowest exam and lowest quiz score. Always helpful during his office hours and goes over every homework assignment in class. Probably my favorite math teacher yet.
This teacher relies on others to teach his class. if you are put into an algabra course with him i would strongly advise switching to an older, more experienced teacher. Richardson will only refer you to the tutorial center if you dont understand class work
Very clear and easy to follow. Always available for extra help. Overall, an excellent math teacher. With moderate effort, this class is easy to do well in.
Richardson is very encouraging and fun- if you have any problem or question, he'll make sure you understand before you go.
Awsome class, he knows what he is doing. Really friendly and helpful. Make sure you go to his classes, really important. If you need help go to his office hours, you always learn stuff. One down side is this test is HARD
Great guy. He really knows what he's talking about, extremely passionate about the subject and wants everyone to get an A. He will honestly make everything so much easier than it looks. Tests are a little hard but if you study from the quizzes, go to class, and do the homework, you'll do fine. Take him if you get a chance.
Best math teacher ever. I hate math but if you have to take a math class take it from him. He made going to class not too horrible and he was so enthusiastic about math that it kept me awake. Very willing to help out and if you have questions talk to him and he will make sure you get the best grade you can.
He is a nice guy but he falls very far behind in his lectures which hurts you on the homework that you have to turn in to get graded.
Andrew is probably the greatest math teacher of all time, he can explain any math concept in mutiple ways until you understand it, he is always willing to help, I would HIGHLY recommend taking any math course with him
Class is simple, teacher is amazingly helpful and awake for 8 am. If you go to class, listen, do the homework and study a little for the tests/quizes you will be good to go. Grading system is setup so that your best 4 out of 5 quizes replace your lowest test (out of 4). Quizes can only help, do well on them.
Very helpful, very good teacher. i feel his tests are hard and he is a bit stingy on partial credit and such, but he is always available and a darn good teacher.
Super nice and helpful. The tests aren't easy, but do the homework, come to class, study and you should be fine. He lets you drop your lowest test and quiz score. I'm planning to take him again next quarter
takes a lot of time to for hw & studying. tests are really hard & it doesnt help that hes pretty stingy on giving partial credit. would have got a whole grade higher if he didnt take pts off for little mistakes even though i got a right answer. he gets really annoyed in class if people talk/make noise. very helpful & available often.decent for 112.
easy class if you go and do the homework. goes over everything that will be on the tests.
He was really passionate about the subject and easy to understand. An excellent professor!
He did a fantastic job teaching the material and staying positive. He actually seemed like he wanted to be there and wanted to help.
He is very enthusiastic about teaching and math. Also, extremely helpful during office hours. He does have difficult tests, so I recommend making mock tests from quizzes to study. Favorite teacher at Western!
I took his class in Fall 2006. He knows how to teach. So even though you are math hater, you will be fine only if you stay focus on what he is lecturing. He is one of the smartest and best math professor in Western, according to me and my friends.
Enthusiastic guy, very helpful. Will always answer your questions, and encourages people to come to office hours. Very nice, will take him again if I take another math course.
This guy is an awesome teacher and helped me get through math 115 fairly easily. He explains everything very well and makes sure to go over all the relevant questions that come to hand. I would definately take this guy again and i would advise is your looking through math teachers, to keep this guy towards the top of the list.
He rarely uses more than one example to explain a concept, often a concept with a twist on it, which in turn makes it hard to figure out exactly what the concept is! This is made worse by the textbook, which only has a few problems per chapter. How does one practice his/her learning? Add harsh grading to that and you have a professor I would avoid.
He is very thorough with instruction and well organized. 50 minutes is not a lot of time so lessons can be very quick paced. He makes himself available during office hours for extra help and is generally a pretty nice guy. HW is a must if you want to succeed and comprehend the material, as is attendance. He is a very HARD grader though.
I enjoyed taking this class, attendance is very important as is the homework. This professor makes the class entertaining. I would suggest taking this class if you get the chance, I doubt you will regret it.
After taking math 114 way too many times with way too many terrible grad student teachers, he finally got me through it. Breaks things down and is easy to understand. Show up to class and do the homework.
Of course, like most college classes, attendence may not be mandatory, but really, if you miss class, you will be left in the dust. He was very helpful and explained things very well. I went everyday and although I had some difficulties occasionally the students who showed up rarely were the ones who got aggravated and thought he "sucked".
I took Andrew for Math 1114, he is a very helpful & eccentric instructor. He explains things very well that helps you think conceptually--bad part about that- you have got to think that way on tests, but it REALLY helps you out in the long run! I would highly recommend Andrew as an instructor if you have struggled with math in the past. :)
Andrew Richardson is an awesome professor. He really has a way of explaining things clearly. He's a funny guy who loves math. He can be a little stingy on grading but it helps in the long run. Wish I could take him again for Calculus.
He is the best math teacher I've encountered at Western! Very clear, thorough, and always on point. He really explains things well and is quite modest and funny which makes his class enjoyable. Go to class and you will be fine. Would highly recommend!
One of my favorite professors at WWU. He's entertaining and makes things clear. Helpful but you can't miss class. Tests can get difficult but just study every concept!
Fabulous Teacher! Genius! Challenging but fair, helpful, and his teaching style could not be any clearer. He does require that that students hold up their end of the bargain in order to succeed: go to class, homework, and put forth effort. You will not only know how to do math but why you do the things you do and what it means. Highly Recommended!
Best Math teacher I have had. Puts things in terms that are more clear. Connects with his students. Genuinely nice guy. Dont want to take a math class at WWU without him. Highly Recomended!
Great teacher, you can defiantly see his passion for math and teaching.Provided lots of examples....HOWEVER, HIS QUIZES/TEST WERE EXTREMELY HARD!!! He would take problems we went over in class, and try to complicate them as much as possible. it was as if he want to see if we fall for his tricks, rather than seeing if we understand the criteria.
Andrew was a great instructor. He was highly enthusiastic, which I appreciated since the class was at 8am. Don't skip class, definitely do all the homework, and he's available during office hours and is totally fine with you sitting in there while other people ask questions or go over examples. Definitely take a class with him if you have a chance!
Andrew was great. I was worried about taking Math 114 since I usually struggle with math but he was very helpful and I ended up doing very well in his class. You must do the homework and put time into the class but he is very understanding. I am going to try to take his classes in the future.
Andrew is by far the best teacher I've had at Western thus far. I took him for both Math 112 & 156 and did extremely well in both classes. His expectations for his class are very clear and he's very good at teaching the material. He's passionate about math and makes it easier to get interested. I would highly recommend taking this professor!
Andrew is a bad ass. I was about to give up on myself, (Having 3 eff's in math), before his class changed my life. TAKE ANDREW RICHARDSON.
Andrew is very clear when he is teaching and extremely animated. He is helpful and encouraging. He expects you to try but puts in just as much effort as you are expected to. He is a great teacher. I try to take every math class I can with him.
I found the material covered in MATH 107 to be very useful in life, however he is a very inconsistent grader and scores exams based on how he feels that day. He is a decent guy, but clearly has 0% flexibility and needs to work on his people skills. I hope he finds a career he enjoys one day, but teaching math to college students is not his forte.
Andrew is so well at explaining concepts that once were difficult for me to understand. I was more than impressed with his teaching ability. You have to do the homework and study for the tests but it is not impossible to do well. I got a B in 112 and a very high A in 114 with him.
Took accelerated pre calc with Richardson and it is very difficult. HW due everyday, 1 Quiz or Exam a week. Grades very stringently. Class goes by very very fast, i.e accelerated. If you didnt do well in previous math classes, dont even think about taking this class without a tutor. Lectures never have enough examples. He says "Right" a lot. GL!
Worst professor at Western! His tests were extremely difficult. He tried to make the problems way more complicated then what he taught us in class. Wasn't very helpful during office hours either. Definitely ruined the hopes of majoring in business.
I hate math and have never been any good at it. He not only helped me understand the material, he very patiently and understandingly worked with me. I think he is the BEST math teacher ever!!!
This is a VERY fast paced class, so often times things will go under-covered, however this is kind of inevitable and Andrew does a good job of trying to explain as much of the information as he can in the short amount of time he has. He is very helpful and very approachable. The class itself is just difficult, but Andrew is a good teacher for it.
Best math professor I have ever had. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to clarify content in multiple different ways so that anyone can understand. He also takes the time to remember individuals names, which is very impressive in a class of its size. If you want a good experience with math, take it from this professor.
I'm so grateful for Andrew Richardson! After failing this class last quarter with Nuckolls, I took it the next quarter with Richardson and I'm passing! He is so enthusiastic and funny,it makes class bearable. He is very clear and explains things well and is very supportive. Take Richardson!
Richardson is the best math teacher I've ever studied under. I used to think I was terrible at the subject before I joined his class. His enthusiasm and clarity in the subject matter was superb and it really encouraged me to do well in his class.
He is awesome! he will help you whenever you have a question, even if it's in the middle of class. he grades pretty easy, and overall it's a really easy class. that is if you like algebra haha
Andrew Richardson is the best math professor I have ever had! He is accessible, helpful and really goes out of his way to explain things clearly. He really takes care to ensure everyone understands which makes such a huge difference from other classes I have taken.
Best math teacher I've ever had, hands down. Always helpful in class and during office hours. He knows the material really well which makes it easy to follow. His lectures are very put together, and his grading system makes it practically impossible to get a bad grade. I definitely recommend him!
Really liked this professor, not to confuse him with the other Andrew. Mr. Richardson was fun, insightful and always willing to help you, ALWAYS. Work is hard since it is Precalc. Ask questions if you don't know and he will be glad to help. Fun and corky dude. Recommend him for everyone that aren't lazy.
This guy will teach you math that you never knew existed. He seriously changed the way I think. And for the better. I succeed in all of my class now, OChem, Biostats, ecology, biology.. Because of the way of thinking he taught me. But you must go to his office hours and ask every question you have. The more you ask, the less you'll have to.
Multiple people told me to take this class because he was the "best 114 teacher" and was "the only reason I got up at 8am everyday". Well, unless math just happens to be your strong point he is not so great as everyone said. Every math test had problems never done before or discussed. Good luck.
The most enthusiastic and helpful professor I've had at Western. Stays strict to his syllabus (no taking quizzes/exams on any other day than the day in class, no exceptions) which can be annoying but his clarity and ability to describe math in a way I've never experienced made his 8 a.m class well worth getting up. Math now makes sense!
Richardson was one of the better math professors I've had at Western.
I truly mean it when I say it's worth getting up at 7 every day to take his class. If you are not a math-minded person like me, I would definitely recommend Andrew. He goes above and beyond to truly explain why, not just how to do it. I have never seen anyone so ecstatic about precalc at 8 in the morning, it (almost) makes you excited about math
Probably the best math professor I have ever had. He really cares about students understanding the concepts behind the Calculus. It's a tough class, because the content is difficult, but this professor will help you. I highly recommend him for any class. He has a silly dance for odd and even functions. I will never forget which axis flips again.:)
Andrew was great! I have never been that great at math but he made it SO easy to understand. He's the best math prof I've ever had! He is so good at explaining things in detail but not taking too much time on one subject. He was always ready to answer any questions and was never condescending to students. Very spunky, and very worth the 8am class.
Andrew is probably the best teacher I've ever had in my life. He explains things so you'll never have to memorize, because you'll understand WHY it works. I made multiple separate appointments with him and he would spend tons of time making sure I understood the material. He's quirky and weirdly excited about math so his lectures are interesting!
His lectures line up perfectly with the homework and if you need extra help, he is always willing to make an appointment with you to help you out. There are a lot of tests and quizzes, but if you go to class and complete/understand the homework, the tests and quizzes are easy. Definitely one of the best math teachers at Western.
Very great professor. He is enthusiastic and funny. His lectures are clear and he uses great examples. I never took pre calc before and got a B. Just commit yourself to the class and go to the tutoring center as if your life depended on it. Passing the skills test is essential for a good grade. If you don't pass it your final grade drops 1 letter
Andrew was really great at explaining the material and made sure to do a lot of in-class examples. He always gave great alternative answers and methods to solve a problem. Wish he would teach all of my math classes.
Always takes so long to go over homework that he rushes through lectures which makes the homework even harder so that we have to ask more questions on it.
Andrew is far and away the best math teacher I've had, not just at Western, but ever. He is amazing at explaining complex concepts in a way that makes sense to those of us who aren't super math-minded. He has an engaging lecture style, and his tests are definitely fair, if you understand the homework you're good to go. I highly recommend him!
By Far the best math teacher I have ever had and maybe even one of the best teachers I have ever had. If you struggle at math like I did, he will make math more fun, seem easier and help you improve! He is there for his students and is always available for extra help at office hours. He made me appreciate math and I never liked math. He's man!
He made math pretty fun, I'm glad I got this teacher.
I would highly recommend everyone to experience and Andrew Richardson math class at least once in their lifetime. This enthusiastic math prof will bring you back to a time where math was fun, and if you never experienced that time... get ready
Andrew was an amazing professor. He was enthusiastic and full of vibrant energy whenever he taught - and made math class less math-y and more fun-ny! I'd definitely recommend taking any course with him, at least any math course with him. Heard he teaches higher level and lower level math courses, but math 114 was truly a memorable experience!!
I had failed Math 114 once, then withdrew the next quarter. Andrew was my last option when I had felt pretty hopeless on ever being able to pass the class. I ended up getting a B+ which might be the highest math grade I've ever gotten. He is great at explaining and an amazing teacher. He's a more lenient grader which was great. I highly recommend.
Andrew collects homework daily but its not super bad since only three problems are randomly graded, so as long as you turn it in you'll get something. Exams/Quizzes happen every friday. You WILL get super lost if you don't go to class regularly. Hes an easygoing and funny guy who knows what he's talking about, teaches well, and is always helpful!
Andrew is an amazing math professor and I would recommend him to anyone who typically struggles in math classes. He is very clear in his lecture and takes time to explain why we do certain this in math.
He is very good at teaching the material. He does lots of examples in class, always goes over the homework, and it accessible outside of class. Make sure you do the homework everyday as it really supports your learning and success in the class.
Take it from someone who has always hated math, Andrew is a great choice for those who need the help. He has nightly homework assignments but they're hardly overwhelming. He's super friendly and funny, and makes it easy to participate in class. My only complaint is sometimes he runs his lectures run over the allotted time but its not that bad.
He is a really good math professor. I enjoy his daily lessons because he gets excited to teach you. His office hours are incredibly helpful and the work is actually things you learn in class with the exception of a few problems, but he knows exactly which ones.
I took Andrew's 112 class and I'm back for 114. It's obviously a much harder course, daily hw due, a quiz/exam every single friday, and rapid fire info during each 50 min lecture. Andrew has really great office hours but they're usually really full so it might be hard to get individual help from him. By far the best you can get for a 114 class.
Andrew is awesome and my favorite math instructor so far at western. Hes Senior Instructor, but I hope to see him get a permanent job on campus because he made class enjoyable and not intimidating. He grades fairly on tests and quizzes, but just like most math classes there are a lot of assignments and exams.
Makes lots of time to meet and help you out. Very clear instructions and has extra examples for questions asked. tests are very straight forward, very clear grading. Helps a lot with skills tests.
Guy is a decent teacher but horrible with students and will treat you how ever he feels that day. Short lectures and never goes over all the questions people have.
Andrew is great!! You can tell he wants everyone to pass and the test questions aren't a surprise. This has been my favorite math class at WWU
I cant recommend Andrew enough. He is so enthusiastic about math. He makes calculus feel so easy. I absolutely love Andrew. I was lazy and didnt do much of my homework, but other than that I did amazing. His lectures are clear and well put together. He is so much fun and always can answer questions ("Whats the real life application") LOVE HIM
Great teacher because He teaches you in many ways, his lessons are planned out to the T, so he never forgets anything. Most professors are good at telling you what to do, Andrew teaches you to understand; a necessary trait in a teacher, but often lacking in most. I have a learning disability and he made Calculus understandable. An incredible feat.
Andrew is a pleasure to have as a professor! He displays a visible passion for teaching the subject matter and his chipper attitude can really engage you into the lesson. His class is very organized, and attendance is important if you expect to do well on quizzes and exams. Overall, hes very helpful when asked, as he cares about his students.
Andrew is the best teacher Ive met at Western so far. For someone who hates math, he made the class incredibly enjoyable and actually explained things in depth in ways Ive never seen other math teachers do. He really cares about you and your grade and will provide help. I wouldnt suggest skipping much class because notes are in class examples.
Very good at teaching math, hes also funny which is a plus. If you need help he will help you, and how he grades is clear and fair.
If you have to take 114 it is impossible to get around the curriculum. It's hard stuff, but Andrew is literally the best you can get to teach this class. By far best math teacher I've had. He made it fun and the tests were very dependent on lectures. He wants you to succeed. Lectures are fun and engaging. Safe to say I enjoy math now, I know right.
Andrew is an amazing teacher. Lectures are really engaging and he makes it easy to understand difficult material. The tests and quizzes are exactly what we did in class, so no surprises, plus fair grading. He has offices hours everyday and really cares about students succeeding. He made me enjoy math and I hope I can take classes from him again!
Andrew is one of the best math professors ever. I didn't consider myself "good at math," but this class restored my confidence in math. Explains concepts very well, gives a very manageable amount of homework, and always makes himself available to answer questions. Highly recommended!
Professor Richardson is a great teacher - he presents the material in a clear and concise way and is always ready with good applications for what he teaches. He made math a lot more fun for me than it had been in years past.
This class is hard, not going to lie. Andrew makes math actually fun and if you're not good at math then I highly reocmmend him becuase he helps you understand it in ways no one has ever taught. There is a ton of homework and tests/quizzes weekly (basically the same schedule as 114). He actually cares about your understanding of the subject.
He wastes A LOT of the short 50 minutes of class telling stories or trying to make the class guess the next step in something wed never done before. He cares for his students and is willing to help during office hours. He rarely finishes his lectures, so some problems on the homework are near impossible without a trip to the tutoring center.
I had Andrew for Math 112 and he was amazing. He was willing to help and explained problems in ways that were easily understood. He has a passion for math and making sure his students have a clear understanding on what's being taught. Definitely would reccommed him to anyone who struggles with math.
Andrew is one of the best profs I have ever had. His grading criteria is clear, he's caring, kind, and really helps his students. His having to adapt to online courses during COVID were exceptional, and it shows that he wants his students to succeed. I've taken 3 diff classes w him (math 112, math 114, and math 115) and I recommend him to everyone.
I love this man. Especially in the COVID-19 pandemic when everything seemed confusing, he made math clear and easy to understand. His lectures were amazing and he's a very funny guy. Sometimes he would get ahead of himself and talk about calculus which made me interested in the topic. I can't wait to have him again.
Probably the best math professor I've had so far. I took 112 with him after having a awful experience the quarter before and failing it, he helped me really understand all the concepts and get back on track with math. Am planning to take more math with him in the future!
Andrew is fantastic. His expectations are clear, and he has a great understanding of how to teach in an online setting. 3 midterms and a final (lowest midterm is dropped). Exams are proctored, but they are all open-notes which is a great trade-off in my opinion. Daily videos (never over 40 minutes) and HW which he goes over during set class time.
Andrew did pretty well dealing with COVID and teaching online. The lectures can be kind of confusing but that is because you can't ask questions because they are pre-recorded. Every day you have a zoom call to go over the previous nights homework. All exams were proctored on zoom, even the final. Overall a really good professor.
Professor Richardson was extremely organized with pre-recorded lectures and Zoom sessions to go over the homework thoroughly. Homework load was not excessive but appropriate to grasp the concepts, and exams were fair. Despite remote instruction on short notice, Prof Richardson did a great job explaining the material.
Andrew is an awesome professor! He is so passionate about math, and really cares about his students. If you show up to class, do the homework, and ask questions, you will definitely succeed. I hope I am able to take more of Andrew's classes in the future.
Learning math online can be hard but he made it very clear and organized! The canvas page is super easy to navigate and he drops your lowest scores towards the end of the quarter which is awesome. He's an extremely fair grader and gives LOTS of partial credit. There's homework due everyday but it takes on average 30 min to an hour to get done.
He's probably the best or second best math professor I've had. If you ask the real world application for ANYTHING in the class, he'll show you with enthusiasm and will blow your mind. He made integral calculus incredibly simple and applicable. Can't get much better in my opinion. Solid 10/10
Really great professor! I took him online, and his materials were very organized. If you like to watch videos when learning math, this class is the way to go. You're able to work ahead for the week too. Also, the quizzes and exams (if online) were the same questions from the homework, so you wouldn't be given questions you haven't seen before.
Andrew is the kindest teacher ever and has a great personality. Prepare to watch lectures and do HW EVERY DAY!! You have to go to zoom everyday as well for around 25-50 min. Class material can be difficult but he tries his best to explain it all. Overall Id have him as a teacher again, only 3 exams and 1 final. A couple quizzes but no graded
I took Andrew for MATH 112, and although he does talk a bit slow, he explains things really well and it is easy to understand. Classes are only 25 minutes long every day, except for exam days which do take the full hour. He wants you to succeed and it is easy to reach him outside of class.
Only 1/4 way through the quarter and I got 100% on my math test after getting straight C's-D's in math for the past 3 years, you guys this man is IT. Daily short zoom lectures to cover material and in depth explanations posted to Canvas before homework. Show up and do the work on-time (it's so manageable). 10/10.
25 minute class every day with time at the end to ask lots of questions. Also has recorded lectures to watch and take notes on, notes are graded but it was easy to get full points. You can also use notes on all exams. I really enjoyed him and I would highly recommend him. Also really great about answering questions over email and he is really nice!
Taken this course before with a different teacher and its a complete 180. Andrew is passionate and visibly interested in math and it shows with his teaching. He explains things slower than other teachers but he does it so you understand EVERYTHING without confusion. Would 100% take again because nothing is worse than having a teacher doesnt care.
Andrew is one of my most favorite math teachers to date. His approach to math is admittedly a bit unorthodox, and makes doing math a bit slower, but it's done in a way that allows us to understand more thoroughly. And I actually remember how to do math instead of forgetting it after a unit now? He's also funny, in a kind of awkward way. 10/10
Andrew Is a true gem, he is a friendly and very personal teacher. He will help you with every little concept of a problem and really teaches from the bottom up. Andrew went slow and introduced us to new concepts gradually, and if we didn't understand he was always available via email or office hours.
Andrew was really awesome for the 112-115 series, his tests were reasonable and homework was directly linked to lecture/exams. It was challenging, but really worth it, and his lectures were engaging and easy to follow! I took him in person and online (during the first virtual pandemic) and I would definitely take him again.
Not sure what my mark is for this class yet, but I am very bad at math and I have never had a prof explain math so well in my life.
Ok so I have always struggled with math, regardless I tested into Math 112 and It was pretty hard for me. If you struggle with TEST ANXIETY let me tell you, Andrews testing environment is VERY stressful. You get 30 minutes to do the tests (40 points each) and 50 minutes to do the exams (120 points each.) The class was very hard for me to focus in.
One of the best professors I ever had at Western. He made online class such an awesome experience and organized the course really well. You have homework everyday but it's easy and it keeps you up to date with what's going on. Love this prof!
Very Organized, Test difficulty equal to homework, Required attendance, helpful in and out of class, very passionate, it's like a kids show but for calculus! No sympathy when I got sick, luckily he drops several assignments. Do your homework, go to class, ask for help, you will do fine. He does compliment the text and helps you understand! 10/10
Andrew is a passionate, engaging professor. Absolutely 1000% reccomend him. He's kind, responsive, thoughtful, caring, and he has a very nice structure to his class. Do the homework, though. C'mon, it's a math class. Practice daily. If this ain't an issue, you cannot go wrong with Andrew.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Does amazingly at explaining confusing things, and is good at teaching for a variety of learning styles. Grading is very fair and you can still do well even if you miss a few assignments. He is there to help anyone and everyone.
Andrew is probably one of the best math teachers at this school. His lectures so clear and you always know exactly what your learning. his hw reflects the tests and he has office hours every single day to answer hw questions. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
When a Professor sends you an email after the first quiz in the class saying you should consider taking a different Math class is not in anyway a great look. Andrew worked for some people but, not for me. He was always a bit callous when I asked him questions and I felt like I was wasting his time whenever I went to office hours.
Homework is due every day and takes an hour to an hour and a half to finish. His canvas page is very organized. The tests are fair and he gives partial credit. He replaces your lowest exam score with your best two quiz scores if it'll benefit your grade. The lectures align perfectly with the homework and exams, and are clear and understandable.
Of the five math profs/instructors I've taken at WWU I can confidently say Andrew is the worst. He's more focused on evaluating and penalizing his students than helping them learn. He password protects all his lecture videos on Canvas with a daily password to block access from those who missed class. In class notes are graded with homework. Avoid!!
He breaks things down and makes them super simple, and clearly loves what he does. Cannot recommend him enough. Best math teacher/professor I have ever had.
If you are a student that needs extra explanation, slow teaching, and an overall friendly instructor, Andrew is not your guy. He is so fast paced, inside and outside of class. When you ask for help, it's never beneficial. The homework does NOT align w/ quizzes and exams. I had to drop this class and will never take a class with him again.
He does not explain thoroughly enough, a lot of the stuff on the homework, he does not teach in class. He teaches us like middle schoolers in class, and then exams and quizzes us like college students. You need to practice and study a lot to be able to get far.
If you're a math major you'll love Andrew. He is such a math proff in the best way. He sets out clear assignments and grading and tells you exactly what you need to study for each quiz / exam. If your'e someone who struggles with math like me it might be helpful for u to see a proff who is as passionate about math as Andrew. Lots of hw
Depending on your level of math, this was a great class. You will pass as long as you show up every day and are willing to learn. Andrew is a great teacher, may take too long on certain things but overall he is a great professor.
He has honestly been a pretty good professor. At times, homework and test become hard because in class, we will go over Middle School type problems and then on the hw, quizzes or exams, it will be college level math questions which can be really hard to apply your knowledge too. Overall, I enjoyed him.
Andrew is a great math professor. Very enthusiastic about teaching his students, and this is a class that will require constant time commitments, but it is absolutely manageable + possible to be successful.
He's a kind person who has a clear passion for math and is shown through his teaching. He is very accessible outside of class and very understanding. He went over homework questions which not many teachers do, and showed a real care for all his students.
The best teacher I've EVER had. Wish I could take another one of his classes. He single-handedly made me love math which I thought would never happen (it's not my strong suit). Just show up to class and do the homework and you will do well in this class.
He is very particular which did not work well for me. The homework had to be formatted a certain way, you could only get full credit on it if you were in class the next day for the bonus question, and you had to submit your notes as well. Homework also never aligned well with what we learned, and was always due the next day right after class ended
andrew gives great lectures and is very passionate about what he teaches. he has recorded lectures but there is a daily "bonus question" that gives you a point for showing up to class. frequent tests and quizzes, but that is expected for a math class. does not provide answer key until after you submit the homework.
Andrew is the best Math professor I've ever had. Pros: He has straightforward grading, gives way too much partial credit, instructs the class clearly, and the lowest quiz & exam get dropped/replaced. These tests also directly reflect the homework, etc. Cons: He tends to rush toward the end of class due to being out of time. Would take Andrew again.
Andrew is a great guy, clearly passionate about math. My key complaints are 1) the lack of time spent on a single topic, 2) the (nearly daily) homework regarding the topic being due only 24 hours after the lecture, and 3) the lectures not preparing students well enough for the homework. Little wiggle room for students who don't catch on quickly.
Honestly I think the biggest complaints I heard/had with him are the same you'll get with any college math professor, which is too much homework and material, and other than that he's great. Very clear communication with what he expects, is passionate about the subject, and will explain things again if you ask.
Pass/fail course, very easy but still helpful. Love the professors enthusiasm.
He makes lectures so fun. He does a participation question and a password at the beginning of each lecture to grade your attendance. There were a lot of assignments, but it's a math course so expect that from everyone. He made math enjoyable and I actually wanted to get up at 9am to listen to him teach.
Western's math department has done it again. Best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I do not care what he is teaching, I will go out of my way to take it. This is a hard and fast paced class if you struggle at math, but if you put in effort and go to office hours you'll be totally fine. Andrew from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
He made me forget I'm bad at math. SO passionate about what he does, will not leave you behind in class. There was a lot of homework, but it made the exams easy with minimal studying. Easy to reach on canvas. Syllabus is very clear and we stuck to it. Attendance is not mandatory, but offers free points if you attend+reviews the homework in class.
Richardson seemed like a really cool guy, but I didn't enjoy his class. He often rambled about something very specific that could have been explained in a couple minutes or less, and would run out of time for his lectures really often. Thankfully, his old videos from Covid were made available.
My favorite math teacher probably. Absolutely hilarious and teaches well. I feel like sometimes the lectures didnt cover all of what was on the homework, but with the videos he makes available as well as homework review the next day I always learned what I needed.
One of the best math professors at Western. While the class was certainly difficult for me, it was always clear what was expected and what I was to be graded on, even if it felt a little harsh at times. There are a lot of tests but generally there are different grading schemes depending on your overall scores on the exams.
Amazing math teacher, the only con is that he has a weird grading system where one exam can be dropped and replaced by the sum of your quizzes or something like that. the system is in your favor but it makes it confusing to calculate your grade, you need to use an excel spreadsheet because it won't say in canvas. amazing teacher though
Professor Richardson is a great math teacher. While the class can be challenging, he has a straightforward grading system and gives plenty of partial credit. The lectures are clear, and Unstuck study was very helpful for study prep.
Math 112 help class. Overall extremely easy, but there was not a lot of crossover with my math 112 class and what we were doing in math 109. This led to a lot of unnecessary confusion at times because WWU just tosses all the 112 students together. Take if you have to, but make sure you're staying in line with your 112 prof's teachings.
Loved him! Great lectures with color coded pens, all homework is directly related to what was taught in class, and exams never have any crazy unexpected material. Super caring guy who actually really likes what he's teaching, and is great during office hours as well.
He is a good professor if you already have a good grasp of the math he's teaching and learns quickly. If you need more time to learn at your own pace, I would not suggest him. He is fast-paced and has homework due every day. As a person with dyscalculia aiming to become a teacher, he needs to learn how to teach for everyone and be more flexible.
Professor Andrew Richardson, is not an effective instructor. Much class time is spent on material that is not essential. Homework often contains tricky questions without enough explanation. If your goal is to pass Math 124, consider other instructors. If math has been fun and easy to you I recommend him so he can change that.
Professor Richardson was a major disappointment. Based on his reviews, I expected a solid math instructor but was sadly let down. His teaching style was confusing and unhelpful, making the course far more frustrating than necessary. I would not recommend this class to anyone looking for clear instruction or a structured learning experience.
It seems like the ratings for different Andrews at Western may have been mixed up. The highly positive reviews don't match my experience with this professor. If you're looking at reviews, be sure to check the last name—if it says Richardson, I'd recommend avoiding this class.
Avoid this class if you can. Professor Richardson is by far the least effective math instructor I've had. His lectures are unclear, and he spends too much time on things that don't help you understand the material. If you want to actually pass and not just struggle through, take someone else.
I was extremely disappointed with Professor Richardson. His approach to teaching math is disorganized, covering irrelevant topics while neglecting core concepts. The homework questions are overly tricky without adequate explanations. His lack of support and clarity only added to my frustration.
His system for grading, testing, lecturing is super complex and seems scary at first, but everything runs like a well oiled machine. It's always very clear what you are going to be tested on and when, class is tough and requires attendance every day, but if you put in the effort your good. Great Professor.
One of the best math classes I've taken. Prof. Richardson is a great teacher who is very organized. Attendance is about half of the daily HW assignments but they relate well to what you are learning. I found I didn't need to study much for exams as long as I spent time to fully understand the HW as I was doing it.
I liked Andrew as a Professor. While many people say its homework heavy, most math classes at Western give homework every day. He offers extra online videos if you need more help on the homework, and reviews problems in class the next day. There is about a quiz/test a week, but that is to be expected with math classes at Western.
I liked Andrew's classes a lot, he explained the topics well and gave a lot of opportunities for students to ask questions. He interjected them with humor but never to the point of being annoying and made the topic very exciting. Overall really great class experience
Andrew is a nice guy, that said I found his calculus 2 section to be messy. He constantly relies on his video lectures he recorded during Covid to make up for running out of time in lectures. He doesn't provide any study material besides homework to help prep for exams. He doesn't post overall grades so you're left wondering where you stand.
The class is hard but Andrew gives his best effort to teach you the material. Andrew is a very caring and kind professor who will work with you, but you have to be willing to put in the work yourself. Go to the tutoring center and watch the videos. Study the bonus questions!
I really liked this math class. Mr. Richardson is a good teacher, and the tests had no surprises on them. Anything he put on a test was pretty much completely taken from the homework we did outside of class.
I really wanted to like this guy cause he seemed like a very nice person but he gave up on me as soon as I started struggling and was very unhelpful. I would strongly discourage taking this class or any classes taught by him.
Andrew was one of the best math professors I've ever had! Lectures are super easy to follow and are available to watch online after class. Attendance is mandatory and there is daily homework but it's all helpful for your understanding of the material. There are a LOT of exams but he drops your lowest scores. Super helpful outside of class as well!
Easily, hands-down, the best math professor I've ever had. The class and lecture structure is really refined and Andrew provides every student with MANY resources to help understand the material, including feedback and videos. Attendance/lots of homework is a must for any math class, and the structure Andrew uses makes that effort feel worthwhile.
Amazing. This teacher really took the stress of learning a topic that can be difficult. His teaching style made class less difficult, and prepared students for success. If you come to class and do the homework, there are NO surprises on the quizzes. Taking math 157 this spring made me, and many other students realize how GREAT Andy is! Miss him
Will mark you wrong if you don't dot the "i" in your name. He can pass or fail you at his own discretion. If he feels like it. It's his way or the highway, even if you get the right answers using a different method. His lectures don't help, so STUDY HARD. He doesn't just give you the information you need for the homework. Avoiding him at all costs.
this is the first time i have ever had notes be required to turn in and this class is by far the worst grade that i have ever received in my entire life. he HUNTS for any point he can doc you on your work, gives no time to do the work yourself during class, assigns hw on quiz days and takes 15 min out of class to go over hw EVEN on quiz days.
I thought Andrew was a good teacher, I understood everything that he was teaching and he made it easy to fully grasp the concepts in class. But, his grading system is incredibly weird. I didn't know my overall grade in the course until the class was done.
friendly and a nice guy who seems like he loves his job. I really liked his grading system as it can be very forgiving. I will say attendance is very mandatory and you will get a point deducted for missing class including if it is for an excused reason, but you will be able to get the lecture still from a video. Overall a very good professor!
