He is a really funny guy (British if you like that kind of humor). He is also really smart and kind, loves to help you out. He has an accent but it isn't hard to understand and he will gladly go over things again. He records all of his lectures and puts them online with his slides, this is great reference material.
Brilliant man!
He is awesome. Tests are fair, he's very helpful and overall a nice guy! Makes class interesting as well!
I found his class pretty dry but it wasn't very difficult and you could do well if you came to class and did the assignments.
He is pretty easy and helpful. will definitely recommend taking physics with him to gain all the material
VERY HELPFUL AND FAIR PROF
Lectures are boring and difficult to sit through, however he provides a lot of resources and extra help to help the student be successful, and communicates all important details about the course to students through email very frequently.
The best phys prof I've had! Some profs make it overly easy and some make too hard. Andrew was neither of them.Really enjoyed all the lectures and it's been an honour to have him as my prof. Everything was fair (tests, etc). He has THOROUGH knowledge and I'd definitely recommend taking a class with him if you can! +really liked the accent (seriously)
Great prof, and super helpful when you go see him. Very approachable too and he tries to make the class interesting to those who don't like physics. He also makes it really interactive with in class problems which are really helpful. Definitely recommend him!!!
Andrew is such a good prof, love the british accent , always great at making the class laugh and involved ! Great help If you don't know much about physics
An extremely kind and knowledgable prof. He takes the time to connect with students and is very easy to go and talk to. He adds humour to lectures and provides great exam review.
Great teacher. Very open to help. He teaches Physics because he loves it, and we can see that.
Great professor! Had him two semesters in a row and I can say is that he is extremely consistent in his teaching. He is always there, and is very clear. I enjoyed having this prof and would like to have him for another Physics class. One of the best profs at Carleton and a memorable teacher overall. Also his jokes are funny lol! Recommend him.
In the handful of classes that i attended, he seemed like a good prof, and really passionate about physics. However, classes felt very long and boring due to the nature of the course. Be prepared to work very hard, this is probably the most difficult first year eng. course. To do well, I would recommend reading the material before going to class.
This was my first physics class at Carleton, and honestly Andrew made the course for the majority of the class. He will dedicate office hours for you for further explanation, he also gives you many resources to make you succeed in his course. He gave many hints toward the types of questions on the final. Can't wait to have him in 1004 next semester
After taking PHYS 1007 I was considering dropping this course but he definitely made the class interesting. He is very knowledgeable and will give you extra time to clarify concepts. Final exam was very easy and he would give hints as to the types of qustions that would appear on the final.
Awesome professor , he loves what he teaches (you can tell), cares a lot about his students, his lectures are amazing , his classes never get even close to boring , speaks super clearly , posts lectures in advance and recordings after class, and tests your knowledge by "in class problems ".One of the best professors ever.
Amazing prof, terrible course. Lots of work, but if you do it all and keep up with the course then it isn't bad, and Andrew does a great job of making otherwise quite boring lectures survivable with lots of opportunity for student participation that really helps keep you awake and understanding of the subject.
Andrew Robinson is the best physics professor at Carleton. He simply has that natural ability to teach. Given the complexity of physics, it's pretty amazing how clearly and effectively he communicates the tough material to a room of 400 students. I absolutely recommend taking a course with this guy if you can.
The day CArleton looses this Prof is the day they destroy their physics department! This man is nothing short of amazing!
Had Mr. Robinson for a first year physics class. His lectures are easy to follow. All lectures are recorded and posted on-line which is great for review or if you miss one. I personally found him hilarious, and don't think he gets enough credit for his jokes (British humour is the best humour!). Should definitely be a full time teacher!
Professor Andrew Robinson is one of the few professors I've taken physics with that has struck me as a unique one. He makes physics interesting and keeps us practicing in class with sample problems; keeps his classes interesting and I especially love the fact that we have to answer to his good mornings at the start of ever lecture! Excellent Prof.
He was a funny teacher. He tried to be as helpful as possible. He changed how he taught the class based on how students liked to be taught, that says a lot. Physics itself is a hard course so you have to go to class. He does post his lecture videos online though. All in all he is a great prof and very helpful.
Truly a great prof. Made physics enjoyable
He's a very well respected professor and his teaching style is quite unique in addition to the fact that he's hilarious and makes it worth coming to his lectures.
amazing prof!
awesome prof
Absolutely phenomenal. Makes my tuition worth it. Miles ahead of any professor I've had in a sciencemath course. All too often, it's "he knows his stuff, but can't teach" or "he knows his stuff, but I can't understand a word." After the first week of lectures I was shocked at how well he teaches advanced material to a large groups of young folk.
He is probably the best physics professor I've ever had. If you go to his lectures the time you need on your own to study the material is almost nullified. The lectures are also kind of interesting even though they are physics lectures. I love the guy
Respectful, insightful, and dynamic.
Not only did he make me a better physics student but a better human being. Thanks Dr. Andrew Robinson.
I've been so pleased with Robinson's lecture that I simply had to write this review. Of countless profs I've had, he stands out to me like no other. He can TEACH, not just talk. His insight is so profound and relevant that I find myself thinking all day long about things he said in class. I cannot express how much I appreciate his genuine effort.
Professor Robinson has by far been one of the best professors I've ever had. Highly recommend taking a class with him. Great personality, cares about the students, and makes the material make sense!
I had this prof both over the summer and during the normal school year. He was friendly, funny and easy to approach. He made some of the most difficult material so easy to understand. In class problems and then a lot of online quizzes and tests. It was a lot of work but it was worth it. I leave the class actually applying physics to the real world.
Without a doubt, one of the most outstanding profs I have had. I went into his class dreading physics with a passion, but he conveyed the material in such a way that it was much easier to grasp and suddenly interesting. He genuinely cares about his students, and is very friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend taking on of his classes .
He is a helpful professor and experienced! As he will point our the common mistakes he finds in previous exams made by students and warns you how to watch out for them. He is very clear on what he wants. I use to hate physics but I would look forward to his classes!
Not much to say other than that Dr. Robinson is on a higher level than many of his colleagues. Can't describe in words how much a genuine care for students makes a difference. PLEASE take physics with him if you have the choice...
Andrew is a G! Very nice and explains well. One of the few good profs I encountered in engineering.
One of the best profs in Carleton university, he provides excellent and clear notes. Reading his notes and understanding every single detail is the key to bringing excellent and learning a lot!!!
Also had for phys1004 energetic lectures, I sleep in a lot of lectures but rarely his. Workload for phys1003 was huge. He makes sure that everyone leaves the highschool psychology and gets prepared for uni. Theres a lotta stuff you need for the course, from online assignments to solving a problem for every lecture. But, he's very understanding.
One of the greatest Profs. I had in my life. Though i don't know if he is still at Carleton University due to job satisfaction issues (low pay), I hope he stays here. 10/10.
Had him for PHYS1003, unfortunately I did not get him for 1004. He was the best professor/teacher I'd ever had. Do all the assignments and you'll do well. The labs were long, and the tests were hard, but if you do the problem sets and study for them, they shouldn't be that bad. All in all great professor. Pay attention in class, his jokes are gold!
He is an amazing teacher and all of his material (videos of every lecture) are posted online. He really loves teaching and cares about how well his students are doing. I've had him for 2 physics classes and I wish my other professor could step up to his level of not only managing, but instructing a course as a whole.
The only early morning lecture I actually enjoyed going to! Robinson puts more effort into teaching than most of my other profs, and provides fair tests and exams.
this teacher is passionate about his subjects and so teaches the concepts of physics to students, not just simply reading off a definition. he uses examples and real life situations in order to give students a better understanding of the concepts.
He obviously loves his job and cares about the students. He's got a plan that has clearly been fine tuned and works.
Amazing prof , very funny , great interaction with students. Lectures can be boring and not very relating to testing methods.
I was terrified going into physics having never taken it in high school but he really put my mind at ease about the subject. The lectures can be long because there is a lot of content but he makes them very enjoyable and uses real life examples. Had to drop the course due to health issues but will def try to get him as my prof again next time!
Robinson is a legend. Funny, explains clearly, gives lots of examples. Tests boil down to taking the given formula sheet, finding the formula you need, and plugging in the values. Always looked forward to this class.
Great....
Great lectures, gives good examples, speaks clearly and responds to emails promptly and clearly, but can go a bit fast on new content that is completely unfamiliar.
Great prof, great class. Easy A, make sure to understand all his notes and do well on tests/labs
Andrew was by far my favourite prof this semester. He really cares so much about his students, and is so passionate about what he is teaching. He is so easy to listen to and really made me love physics after being terrified to take it after a bad experience in high school. I hope I have him again.
He's the only prof that could explain physics to me!
By far, the best Physics teacher I've ever had and I've had over half a dozen through high school. This man is simply a legend in explaining physics to you. He cares about you and your success and will make sure you understand if you go to him for help.
This instructor was a great addition to my university career. I had only taken one semester of physics prior to having this prof and the way he teaches really reflects the grades the class was receiving. Still a hard course given the fact that it is physics and you also have labs on top of 3 hours of lecture
Such a great prof. I wish I could have him for all my classes. His material is very well prepared, he posts recordings of the lectures you can listen to if you miss class. He posts all his slides online for review. The tutorial questions totally prepare you for the tests. No reason you can't pass the course as long as you go to class and the labs.
It was one of the few courses were I learnt a lot and this is due the prof's methods of teaching. I think this is because of the way the prof presented and organized the course. He provides very good notes and material.
The first professor I ever had in University. Honestly, a true professor that not only cares about the course, but extremely cares about the students. Though his lectures may not have been crazy interesting, he made them enjoyable and did his best to make sure everyone wanted to come to class. Class wasn't too hard if you do the practice questions!
He is the best lecturer at Carleton. He truly cares for his students and tries his best to explain the course material with various real life examples and makes PHYSICS fun! Im so happy I had this professor because he made me really like physics. MAKE SURE U CHOOSE THIS PROF!!!!! WOOOOOOOOO
His lectures are engaging and very effective in teaching course concepts. You can tell he loves teaching and he puts a lot of effort into it.
Great Prof. Very organized, posts all of his lectures and slides online. Gives you plenty of learning resources too. Made the lectures decently interesting even though the material isn't all that enthralling. Tests and Final were very straightforward and easy if you did a little bit of practice.
His tutorial test are very similar to the tutorial questions given, exam was also very similar to tutorial set problems. There are definitely no surprises in his class. Overall could be an easy A if your TAs are easy going when marking the labs. You don't need the textbook, he gives lots of practice self-tests - study these and you are good.
This guys amazing! You don't need to go to class just watch on culearn. He marks exam very quickly and keeps students informed about pretty much everything including where he is on marking the exam through email. Lot of work with because labs but this course is pretty much an easy A considering the tutorial tests are identical to the exam question.
Basically a repeat of phys 4u with the exception of the last unit. Very clear grading material tutorial tests identical to material covered in tutorial. Hardest part is labs for sure and require a lot of work. Very reasonable exam marker as well he is accessible to discuss exam marks after the exam is written.
I don't usually like physics but he made it interesting. One of the best profs I've ever had.
Honestly one of the best professors at Carleton. He got me speechless goes way out of his way to explain concepts. Makes a few cool experiments in lectures. To be honest, he made a class that is known to be hard much more interesting and easier. If you are ready this, I would like to thank you. It was a great honour having you as a prof.
He definitely cares that the students understand, but during class, there are so many proofs and not a whole lot of solving problems. The course is known to be a weed course and is super hard, but he does a good job of explaining some tough concepts.
Very good and approachable prof. He explains the concepts perfectly. He is a real physicist.
This guy is amazing. He is funny and tries his best to make lectures interesting (which is very hard for this course lol). He knows his stuff, and is very helpful outside of class. I love how he controls the class in terms of noise and people walking in late, it makes it much easier to concentrate.
Amazing prof. Very clear slides, clear and interesting lectures. The course is very well designed and structured to help you succeed. If you don't have the best relationship with physics, take this class with Andrew. You'll come out both understanding and loving physics!
Professor Robinson is such a nice guy it makes me cry. Lectures are great- he goes over theory and problems unlike other profs who only focus on one of the two. Where the textbooks get confusing, his lectures clear everything up perfectly. Always willing to answer questions and provides tons of help.
Great professor. Cares a lot about his students. Labs are the only hard part of the course. Content should be review of grade 11 or 12. Practice his exam prep questions since some of the questions on the final were similar to those.
Probably one of the best teachers or profs I've ever had, very engaging and caring. Do problems from the textbook, follow along in lectures, it's mostly review so that can be boring but Robinson makes it okay
Best prof, explains topic in depth and reviews questions that would should up on the tests, super nice & funny, easy to talk to, amazing ties, and he genuinely cares about how you do in the class. He posts the lectures & records them so if you miss one, youll be fine
Dr. Robinson is the greatest physics prof this university has ever seen. Please give him tenure ASAP. Also great variety of ties.
PHYS1004 is an extremely difficult class, however Robinson tries to his best help each student understand and teaches the material very well. He posts recordings of his lectures online which is extremely helpful if you miss a class or didn't quite understand the lecture and need to review it. His exam review is super helpful as well.
He is the reason I changed my major to physics!
Best prof ever!
BEST PHYSICS PROF EVER!!!!!
PLEASE COME BACK TO TEACH PHYS 1008 SUMMER 2019!!!! :( I always thought he was a great prof in PHYS 1007 (Summer 2019). Clear lectures, clear expectations. I didn't know truly how great he was now that I don't have him as a prof anymore. :(
I am from Uottawa and this prof made me love Carleton!!
I am a student that usually fails/barely passes math based courses. Dr. Robinson made me fall in love with Physics! He was so kind and helpful when you ask questions! His lectures are amazing as he uses a variety of ways to engage students including pictures, youtube videos, applications to real-life etc. Truly the best professor I've ever had!
Best prof ive had so far. Super explanatory and interesting. Lectures are captivating.
I loved how he had the poll everywhere questions throughout the slides. It really helped keep my attention and gain practice answering relevant questions during the lectures. He is definitely an engaging prof and I enjoyed the physics class so much that I added a physics minor onto my degree.
Professor Robinson was an awesome physics teacher! I was dreading taking physics but he made the class enjoyable and I fair for the students. Really wish I had him for PHYS 1004!
The best professor I ever had and everyone who reviewed him are true. I was afraid to take this course at first and wasn't expecting to receive a high mark, but because of his rating, I chose not to drop this course. I learned a lot of physics because of him, and would not take physics without him. I highly recommend this professor if you take PHYS
One of the best prof. Just go to his classes and you will understand the concepts you need to get a B.
Great prof. I wasn't in his lecture section, but he was basically my prof as I watched his lecture videos that he posted online. Very helpful and overall a great professor, who was willing to help students frequently. PHYS 1004 requires work and dedication, but his lectures make it clear and mostly understandable.
Great guy and manages to have a great sense of humour even during a pandemic. He will talk to you any time and I appreciate his tie collection.
One of the best profs I've had so far!!
Fantastic professor by far my favorite of first year. His lectures kept me interested and focused. The lectures made the content more than manageable
He is really good. His lectures are amazing. Go to those and don't have to spend much time outside class.
He is the best Prof ever! I like his lectures and I really love having a conservation with him. I really recommend him. DON'T hesitate and click register right now! Make sure to go to his office hours. Lastly, words can not explain how nice he is I will just keep the rest as a surprise for you!
Awesome professor that will keep the lecture interesting. Very clear in explanation, always seem to be available to students with frequent office hours. Exam and tests were difficult but manageable. One of the best professor I've ever had.
Best professor I have had at Carleton so far! Awesome teacher and just an awesome all round guy. Very fun, engaging, and really cares about the experience of the student. Even if physics isnt your cup of tea, he does a great job of making the class interesting and enjoyable.
AN ABSOLUTE GEM! I can't stress enough how amazing of a professor Dr. Robinson is. I took his first-year physics class and I have never been happier in my life regarding a course. There's no reason for you not to get As if you do the work!! this course requires a lot of practice and he's 100% made it easy; SUPER EASY for you to get that A+ ;)
I always HATED Physics, yet my grade is PHYS1007 is one of my highest grades I have ever gotten (A+), and it's because of Andrew Robinson! He is so kind and funny and makes the tough concepts actually make sense. If you struggle with Physics, take it with him, he is a God sent! Go to him if you have any questions, he is the best at explanations!
How this guy doesn't have tenure yet is so crazy, considering he is the ONLY Prof in the Physics department who consistently has had his students do well because of his amazing approach to teaching. You need to put in some work but Andrew explains everything so well that you won't be in misery studying for this course. Take it with him!
Attend classes.
If you see this guy's name in course selection, take him. Robinson is a gift from above in physics! He's got some great dry humor and some neat in-lecture demos. He made PHYS 1007 a breeze. This is saying something. You really don't get a prof like this very often.
I recently took PHYS1007 with Professor Robinson in Summer 2020. He is the most caring and amazing professor I have had. He also gives clear lectures and provides us with the tools needed to succeed. If you're taking PHYS1007, be sure to take it with Andrew Robinson.
Without a doubt the best professor I've had. He puts more work into teaching than anyone at Carleton and cares about the students.
Amazing dude, cannot believe he's not a tenured prof. Provides tons of additional material, explains things clearly and concisely, and makes a class enjoyable when it otherwise wouldn't be
Dr. Robinson is an absolute LEGEND with an insane tie game
Such an amazing prof, wish more profs were like Dr. Robinson
wish more profs were like Dr. Robinson
Good professor. Wanted to take next semester with him, but wasn't able to.
He is truly one of the nicest professors at Carleton as a whole. He is a people person, and genuinely cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Hes a phenomenal teacher!
Incredible
So hes a great guy. Hes pretty clear, which is better than 99% of profs here. Thing is, this course is so difficult that its still going to be hellish. With so many different subjects coinciding here, it is almost impossible to wrap your head around. Prof, if you every see this, pls give us a step by step formula on how to solve youre questions!
He is phenomenal, if I could give him more than 5 stars i'd give him a million. I am not great at math/science but he is so patient, caring and helpful. If you have to take physics, take it with him!
He's one of a kind. Im in my fourth year now, and I rarely encountered professors like him. It's very obvious that he puts effort to deliver the information in an easy way during the lecture, I mean, Physics is hard! Let's face it. He's phenomenal, and he deserves all the respect and the appreciation!
He always had a smile on his face and he spreads positivity. He responds to email quickly and kindly. Explains the material well
Andrew made course material that was difficult very easy to understand. His lectures were clear and concise. He is also very easy to reach by email and has a very kind attitude. I hope I have him again.
Great prof! Made difficult material easy to understand! I wish he did all of the modules in the course, as his lectures are far superior to Gorneas. Also understood how stressed out students were and the fact that were in a pandemic, and gave us a nice easy final exam to help us out. Probably one of the best profs I had in university thus far!
The best prof!!! He is always there to help, very supportive and funny, kind and just a really caring person. He also drops the worst grades so it is not that hard to get a good grade if you listen to his lectures you'll 100% be fine. Not much to read and the textbook is not really needed. The online format was ok
Great professor! Very kind, responds to emails quickly and always willing to respond to any questions students may have.
Dr. Robinson is a nice prof and you can tell he really wants his students to succeed. He can be a bit unorganized but he is very helpful and always responds to questions quickly. The lack of organization in course structure at the beginning of the course was a bit annoying, but he is still a good prof and would take his class again.
The best prof. I have been terrified of physics & of taking it since high school (10 years ago). His class was such a pleasure to take, even virtually in covid it was one of the best courses Ive taken in STEM. He cares very much about his students & just wants you to do the work (extensions are no problem) & learn. Others pale in comparison!
What a great professor. PHYS 1004 if a brutal course and I cannot think of a better professor to teach it. He cares so much for the students and explains material like a champ. I would give him more than 5 stars if I could.
Took this class Fall 2020 - Dr. Robinson explains things so clearly, and is so compassionate. I was terrified of Physics after highschool - Dr. Robinson gives you detailed explanations of every concept, I was not worried at all going into his exams. Thank you for being a true teacher and caring so much about our learning.
I had him back in 2019 but had to give him props now. He is the most caring professor you will have in your eng journey. We were marked fairly and he encouraged us to go to his office hours if we needed extra help or just a friendly chat. Not sure how he was only a contract instructor, give him tenure!
Prof Robinson is the best professor I have ever had in Carleton. He had amazing lectures and was able to break down hard concepts to my understanding. Will recommend taking his class to anyone.
His lectures are amazing honestly. For the online class, he provides short 10mins each lectures which includes the important parts. Later on office hours provides detailed explanations with real life examples and nice animations making his lectures very easy to grasp and learn.
Robinson is a treasure.
The world needs more people like Andrew. PHYS 1004 was by far one of the most challenging first year courses, and out of the three profs, he was the only one who explained stuff well enough. He wants to see his students succeed, and always has enthusiasm and a smile on his face.
Andrew Robinson was the best professor I've had by far. He genuinely cares about his students and does a great job explaining the material in more detail in his office hours (which I highly recommend attending). Loved this class!
Made physics a delight. Compassionate grading, flexible, always willing to help you understand things and not just regurgitate.
Amazing professor, one of the best I've had. I tend to see excellent professors as the type who, going beyond their course, help you develop skills needed to tackle their subject as a whole, which I feel Dr. Robinson has done. Furthermore, he makes physics feel trivial when it is notorious as one of the hardest subjects. Would take again.
My first term at Carleton and he's my favorite prof! Clear lectures(also recorded), flexible deadlines, and his office hours are very helpful. The course itself is quite intense with tutorial exams every two weeks, I won't be choosing physics as an elective again but I love Andrew's class!
One of the best professors at Carleton. I did not drop out in my first year all because of him.
Amazing prof. Ran frequent office hours that were amazing and great learning.
Andrew Robinson is by far my favorite professor of all time so far. He is so nice and caring and will go out of his way to help you in any way he can. He has excellent straightforward lectures and has a workable about of homework and studying to do.
By far the best lecturer, funny yet the lectures were actually useful. The labs are pretty intense however they're fun and diverse... 10/10
I'm not actually in Dr. Robinson's class but in another PHYS 1004. To anyone taking PHYS1004, choose Dr. Robinson!!! You will have so much of a better time during this course. His lecture slides are the reason why I write this, as I am currently using them to study for exams. Thank you Dr. R, from the other side!
Dr. Robinson was by far the best professor in my first year at Carleton. His lectures were clear, concise, and engaging. While the content was very challenging, he ensured that it was as accessible as possible to us. Also, don't forget to make him show off his ties!
Amazing prof with interesting classes. Very easy o understand and he has all lectures videotaped on BS
He's a good lecturer and kind, offering much help during the semester; he made the lectures easy and fun. I would absolutely take him again
The GOAT. Nothing else to say. Also I love his ties.
Goated prof, great ties, extremely clear in his lectures plus adds humor which encourages engagement. Nothing more to say, I would 100% take this course again.
Professor Robinson is simply fantastic. His lectures are engaging, and he genuinely cares about helping students succeed. The course is challenging, but with his guidance and resources like unstuck AI, I was able to grasp the material and earn a great grade.
I have nothing but good things to say, he covers difficult concepts in ways that just make sense. He's a very kind person and is the perfect example of what a Prof. Should be. Andrew Robinson is the absolute best take his class if you ever can!
Lectures are straightforward, in depth, and always takes time to explain or demonstrate concepts when anyone asks questions. He's funny and seems to be genuinely interested in physics. Would highly recommend you take his class, one of the best professors at Carleton.
Hands down the best prof for physics at the very least. He's very knowledgeable and is always willing to help you with any problem. His lectures are structured in a way that makes understanding concepts easy and interesting. If you can, take him over any other prof for physics classes.
best professor at carleton! great explanations and examples. if you have the chance to take him, 100% recommend!
Amazing ties.
I took him for PHYS 1003 and 1004. He is an amazing professor and an extremely fair grader. If you have any questions, just go to his zoom sessions. I've never met a single person who's disliked him as a professor. All his lectures are recorded online. The tutorial tests for 1004 are harder than 1003; make sure to practice ahead of time !
absolute GOAT
I was not looking forward to taking physics over the summer since I've never taken physics a day in my life and I suck at math but to my surprise, this was the easiest course I've taken up to date. Super clear grading, the labs are fun and simple, weekly quizzes and assignments and the lowest gets dropped. Prof Robinson is amazing and engaging !!
By far the best prof at Carleton. He should be an inspiration to all. I cannot preach this man enough... I would go out of my way to take his classes if I could. He's genuinely a good person and loves what he teaches... 10/10... Not the easiest classes but that's just the nature of what he teaches.
Amazing prof. Handles explanations of difficult topics quite well. Absolutely love the new tie he has on each lecture. PHYS1004 is relatively difficult content wise but they are quite lenient with the marking scheme.
