Brilliant fellow. Enjoyable class.
boring class. waste of time. do not take
Doesn't know how to calculate grades. Is unclear about assignments. Is unclear when answering questions and VERY VERY RUDE!!!!! Not an ethical person, not sure why he is an ethics prof.
Horrible class, horrible person.
Horrible, he is unclear, doesn't explain much very well, grading is terrible, the homework is confusing. Typing two pages for every class and not even having it collected is dumb. He's very rude, and hard to understand.
this man is hilarious. he talks about some crazy random stuff. its whack!! he is a tough grader though.
Dr. Stypinski makes you work, but you dont belong in college if you arent willing to do so. Very smart, very serious. I recommend his class.
Didn't make any attempt to learn our names. Very rude, very unclear.
The worst professor I ever had. Big disappointment being a philosophy major. It is unethical for him to so called teach any longer.
He is a funny guy and seems very nice but i must say his class is not interesting. His answers to your questions are only answered 50% of the way....the test is dumb a quator of a sheet of paper for an essay & that is your grade? :( wish he taught bet
This instructor is horrible. He does not lecture, instead he forces students to ask questions so that he can answer them, and he does not provide a clear answer. think of asking a question about how to ride a bike and being told how to raise a kid. Its that bad. Would not recommend Him to anyone
His style of teaching is discouraging. His lectures do not reiterate the readings directly or sometimes not at all. He really is hard to follow at times because he goes off on different tangents.
This man is brilliant.

Plain and simple: the man is an outstanding mind. However, his inability to speak the language, relate with students, teach, and explain concepts truly limit him as a teacher. He was meant to be a thinker…not a teacher.

He just can not teach.
Brilliant, genius, pure mental phenomenon.
interesting teach. he's very smart, but mostly confusing. plus philosophy is a challenging class!
This guy blows my mind away. He is a prodigy or something. I had a class with him for 4 weeks and was amazed with how much I learned.

Very brilliant, talked a lot about "chess poetry" yeah thats right, I have no Idea either. Out of touch but if you communicate with him, class is much easier
I really liked him as a professor alot, he was funny and made a boring subject a little more lighthearted. However, I feel like he grades a little weird. Both essays I've done have been docked a lot of points without writing any negative remarks on them. Overall, a nice guy. I have it at 7:45 and I still manage to go most of the time, not a pain
HE has never answered one question friggen question. He contridicts himself on a regular basis, and does a great job at confusing his students. Im a supported of equal opportunity employees, but you gotta be able to teach. This class is a joke.
One simple word. WHAT??!!
intro to ethics is an interesting class towards the end but at first it stinks!!! you have to write a 2 pg summary for each class!!! and he cant decide when he wants to collect it so you always have to have it! If you write a lot on blue book tests dont take him becuase you only get one front of a page for an entire essay test!
I hated him!!! I have never wasted more money on a class than this one..he did not answer anyones questions and literally makes no sense when he talks. He is not clear in his expectations for the class or tests.. advice is to never take him for any class if you want to pass.
He struggles to "bring it down" to an intro level. Would be better teaching higher level classes. He gets an A for effort, but students suffer because of it.
very hard to understand. doesn't answer anyone's questions, about anything. test are nearly impossible. be ready to have a 2 page summary over every reading even though he may never collect it, like in my class.
very difficult to understand when discussing material. required 2-page typed summary for every class period, which is a waste of paper and time.
Very intelligent man. Takes a while to get to know his personality and the way he teaches but if oyu take his notes and study exactly what he says you will get an A even at 7:45am
it was very hard to understand him because of his accent. He loved to talk about staling cars and cocaine. He never answered our questions and we were only allowed to ask "moral questions". the two page summaries are a waste of paper and time. Other teachers are easier and don't make you read that boring book and watch those stupid dvds.
He never answers questions, and requires that students read things he never discusses. he also contradicts himself, and refuses to say what will be on the tests. avoid if at all possible
He does not collect the summaries often and there is no need to buy the book because you can get away without having to read it. He grades his essay tests very hard and only lets you use one page of a blue book to write you response which is not enough space. I atteneded every class and still ended up with a C+. Horrible ethics teacher!!
This is a nice man outside of the classroom, but in the classroom. he is confusing. requires you to write a two page summary for each class but he doesnt always collect every class period. So its a waste of paper, ink and time. Says he's going to go over certain stuff, but doesnt. I would not recommend him as a teacher.
WARNING! I took this professor for an online class, despite hearing bad things. I should of taken the advice to stay away from him. Not only does he never answer questions with an actual answer, he never makes sense and doesn't explain anything well. I worked my tail off for this impossible class- it's only impossible because he makes it that way..
He tries to trick you about assignments on springboard & will not answer your. questions. not a good teacher at all
His work load for a 3 credit class is overwhelming at best. In addition to class lectures, he requires to watch 12 hours of dvd lectures outside of class time. 2 page summary due every day of class. Bulk of grade are the summaries. Only 2 true/false tests and 2 essay exams.
Stypinski speaks with an accent and at times doesn't explain things very clearly. His tests are essay only but if you do decent(C+/-) you can still get a B+ if you turn in all of the two page essays he assigns for every class day. The papers were a pain but only took 30 minutes to write. If you put forth the effort you will do fine in his class.
5wk summer course. easy, only 2tests,about 4half pg papers, and class participation for grade.somewhat hard to understand accent.very helpful and thorough.
I am a passive evaluator, however Mr. Stypinksi should be removed from any position of influence. This man has zero accessibility for his students. While his syllabus claims each student should be able to commit no less than 12 hours a week in addition to class time, he seems to be able to commit ZERO for his students. Take ANY other professor.
This teacher did not make what he wanted done very clear We had a lot of reading and he wanted you to watch these videos both at home and in the library. The only grades for this class was attendance, 3 test and weekly quizzes which were impossible because he deosnt cover any material in class I got a C on all the test but managed to get a B overal
i had him for intro to ethics. you have to go to every class or you lose points for not being there. he requires to watch 12 one hour videos online AND 24 videos in the library. all the tests are on springboard and are true and false. 3 essay exams in class. doesn't answer questions clearly.
Gets off topic quick and stays off for a long time. Doesn't answer students' questions - he'll tell a irreverent story for 20 minutes and move on. In an ethics class, I think the teacher should argue his point if a student doesn't agree. Andrew just tells you your wrong and moves on. Its an easy, boring class. Just write what he wants to hear.
This man shouldn't be allowed to teach. Period. He makes philosophy out be nothing more than the verification of Christian dogma. He disgusted me with his comments about non-Christian thinkers and philosophers. He rambles on and on spouting useless garbage. Don't take ANY of his classes, if you want a real education.
Do NOT take this guys class, ALL of the negative comments below are absolutely true. He will make you read 60 page out of the book for homework, then when it comes time to discuss it he will only talk about cocaine or his childhood. This is after the first 20 minutes of him randomly asking people if they brought their book or syllabus. AVOID HIM!!!
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!! All he does he go off on tangents about his youth, cocaine, and Chef-Boy-R-Dee. He assigns 80 page readings for homework, and then in the discussions goes off on his tangents again. Completely useless class and an epic waste of my time.
He's a terrible teacher. He talks about his love of cocain and p0rn0graphy. He also talks about stealing cars at night and stolen diamond rings. He also is very hard to understand. He spends most of class asking who's missing or who moved their seat. And he rarely teaches anything at all. He answers questions with riddles... don't take the class..
I love this class, I think those who commented earlier didn't try hard enough. He's a great guy, and yeah he is confusing sometimes but he is foreign and hes teaching philosophy. If you do the readings your fine, and his lectures are interesting once you understand his lectures.
Good Luck. Super Sweet Guy. It's the 3rd week I am so confused and so behind and I have been to every single class. Good Luck Again.
He was very hard to understand because he has an accent. And sometimes he wasnt very clear on what he expected of us. But he follows his syllabus to a 't' and he made his test SUPER easy if you showed up to class.
Where to begin? I was completely lost from the beginning. He follows to syllabus precisely but he is so hard to follow. He tells you to take notes in class but he will stand in front of the class the entire time and just goes on rants about nothing that pertains to the class. If you ever try to disagree with him, you will be wrong. Don't take him.
i love the way he teaches because he is passionate about his work & really does the research beyond the class through personal experiences, or the lives of others. he also has a funny sense of humor
He is a nice guy but is at many times incomprehensible. His lectures often get side tracked by personal rants and he becomes preachy at times. His tests and projects are easy though and getting an A is not difficult. But expect to lose hair if you try to relate his lectures to graded work.
I LOVED him. I missed alot of classes because I had some medical things going on, and he was always willing to help. He was very passionate. Those who are rating him poorly are doing it because they didn't work hard enough and their poor grades reflected that. Since when is it bad for a professor to challenge his students?
he really makes you think. Yes he does answer in riddles but to make you think of the answer yourself. His lecture flow off in slight tangents.Very kind and understanding. Do the reading and take a little bit of notes and you will be fine.
Shallow minds looking for shortcuts and easy answeres will be irritaded by Dr. Stypinski. Thinkers will admire him. Dr. Stypinski has a philosopher's heart and mind. I look forword to future endeavers with this professor. Thankyou.
unorganized and confusing. Very stressful professor.
He is an overall good guy but he gets side tracked fast and it'll last the whole class. He takes small notes. If you get him you better LOVE to read. He follows his syllubus perfectly. His exams are easy but he either wants yes or no. You either fail or you don't. READ. READ. READ.
I enjoyed his class a lot. I learned a lot. He is friendly and nice. Six quizzes(drops the two lowest) and two essay tests and a final exam. He does have an accent, which is sometimes hard to understand him.
Good professor, he can get off topic in class but his lectures are important for tests and quizzes. If you read everything quizzes will be easy for tests just one reading is evaluated. A lot of reading assignments, but if you ask for help and participate he notices and that will help boost your grade.
He gets off track some times and relies heavily on that you read the work. Plus he has a required online component.
He looks for simple answers that he doesn't simply spell out to you. I'm not sure if this is by design or not. Gave a sixth week evaluation at ninth week of class but not given current overall grade at any point. Both classroom and online participation required! Yet a nice personality and remains syllabus steady.
Dr. Stypinski is definitely a great person, but I did not enjoy him as an instructor. He follows his syllabus very well and is clear with what he expects- but if you give any less than that you won't do well. He often strays off topic in lecture leading to confusion on homework and quizzes. Overall I enjoyed the class, it just took a lot of effort.
Super easy class. He goes over lectures several times and tells many of the same stories which is super boring, but he spells out exactly what he wants from you on essay exams (three exams, only a small page, very easy). Just do your homework and show up for class, jot down a couple of notes and you're sure to pass the class.
He drops a decent amount of quizzes and HWs. Communication is terrible with him, and his accent doesn't help you understand him any better. He is very slow with grading and is extremely old-fashioned. He didn't update his dates in Brightspace from previous semesters. Confusing and hard to work with. Causes unnecessary stress and unreasonably strict
If you follow the syllabus, and attend classes regularly, then you should do fine in this class. I would advise anyone taking this course to drink coffee beforehand, because the lecture can be hard to follow at times. Dr. Stypinski is a nice man overall, but sometimes he repeats stories in lecture that he has previously told.
Do not be fooled by what others have said about Dr. Stypinski. If you are not ready for philosophical thinking, then you are not ready to take this class. A hard grader? Not really. Know what he wants and you get all your points. Philosophy is not easy and definitely not for you if you are not patient. One of the best professors I have had. Cares.
Overall very passionate about the subject and knows how to explain the topics to make sure you understand. Hard to communicate with and will assume you know what he expects from you. This class will definitely make you think critically. His exams are not hard once you go to class and take notes.
This was by far THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I took his online Intro to Ethics class; and he was just awful. The syllabus is basically his lesson plans and you are left to figure it all out. There were LENGTHY discussions, 4 homework papers due a week and if you need help, don't even bother asking him. THE WORST PROFESSOR.
Idk why he is rated so poorly here but his class was super easy. There were two less than 20 words HWs each week and he went over what he wanted on HWs/exam 100 times. He GAVE the questions that were going to be on the exams on the review days. he spoon feeds you the answers but If you don't attend class you will fail. HOWEVER he is REALLY BIASED!
His quiz questions rarely make sense, and he is not very clear with what he wants to see in the essays. There are 2 one-paragraph essays due every week on top of the readings, quizzes, discussions, and exams. Attendance is mandatory but his lectures have lots of irrelevant tangents and aren't structured. He also has issues dealing with technology.
When he lectures, he gets off topic so fast. Every class he wastes time. If you want a good grade for his class, just be nice to him and ask good questions, make yourself memorable. If he likes you as a person he will give you a good grade. Don't overthink. Write like 5 sentences for RE's. Exams are essay formats. Quizzes were difficult.
This has honestly be the worst professor I have ever had. I am currently taking Intro to Ethics online with him right now, and I really advise you stay away from the online version if you have to take him. He won't answer emails until a week after, his dates on BS were wrong, he never makes sense which makes philosophy harder. Just terrible.
This man changed my entire life! I cannot believe anyone would give him less than a perfect rating. I took his intro to philo class at Kent Geauga 23 years ago! I have never met a more brilliant man and he completely changed my way of thinking. I looked him up today to try to find and thank him for the impression he left on my life. -james burch
His online class is a complete mess. He is tough to get a hold of via electronic communication and will only give you short couple-word answers. There are a lot of assignments but he barely keeps the grades for most of them. His exams are question essays with no option for partial credit. The exams are always 100% or 0%.
The first few days are confusing but as you go you'll realize it's not because of him but because of the course in general. He gives a lot of readings and discussions to do and I strongly suggest it. After reading the materials, you will quickly catch what he's saying in class. His class, even to this day, is one of my favorites.
If you have to take him- make sure you do every reading because you won't learn much from lecture. He is an older man, and he seems easily distractible. Syllabus will be your best friend, follow it closely. After a couple weeks it becomes clearer what he is expecting from you and does get easier as long as you put in the work. Values participation.
It is kryptonite for him to give a 100% on anything. Very grumpy and if you do not give him an answer exactly the way he wants god bless. If you call the sky blue he will correct you because sometimes the sky appears to be orange at sunset, so blue is wrong in his mind. No slides, just a 40-50 minute session of him talking about pointless stories.
This class can get annoying immediately. Lectures are all over the place, he just seems old and distracted. After a minute you will be able to understand what he expects. Just do all of the homework, reflective essays, discussion posts, etc. Even if you don't know what you're talking about, try and sound like you do. Everything is on the syllabus.
Literally cannot use a computer. Wastes valuable class time trying to use a computer, or just by rambling about unrelated subjects. Numerous times, important information was simply never disclosed, as he could not figure out how to post it online. Computer Literacy should be mandatory for college professors, and Dr. Stypinski is exactly why.
Dr Stypinski is very knowledgeable of ethics. In the beginning it was tough to understand everything and get used to it and me and several others would get annoyed, but once settling into the class it was not terrible. He is willing to help, but sometimes he gets off track. Good professor, you just need to get used to his style of teaching.
Honestly going into this class was scared because of his rating. But honestly funniest older guy ever. He talks to his computer like it's a kid. And he gives good advice sometimes. Not really important to pay attention in the class because the book makes more sense and is an easy A .
This professor is very bad at staying on topic while teaching during class. When you ask a question, be prepared for him not to answer it or to answer a completely different question. If you'd like an easy enough class, it wasn't hard, but if you care about ethics in any way shape or form, do not take this professors class. Very frustrating
wasn't super hard, js extremely boring and confusing at times. main things we have are reflection essays (super easy), but we do have a lot of readings we're supposed to do outside of class, but honestly, you'll be fine w/o it. BEST ADVICE sit in front and interact/talk w him often. he'll be a lot more lenient w you if he likes u
Honestly, as far as teaching skills, this guy has NONE. He's like 80+ years old, and thinks he's hot stuff. The course itself was not that difficult, although he'll spend 1/3 of the lecture time telling you to work hard. If you complete the quizzes, short response assignments, and go to his review lectures before the exams you will do great.
He is the WORST! Workload is ridiculous, never answer emails promptly. Most of the time, he either doesn't answer the question or he's rude with his answer. I asked him a question and pointed out something in the syllabus that may have been incorrect, but really just needed an answer to my question. All he had to say was "congratulations"
You really have to listen to find what he is saying in his stories isn't clear at times but very helpful in emails, and is accommodating for disabilities. Don't take you wanna get by but if you like the subject he is very invested and can be helpful when you look for the deeper meaning. But email multiple times to get good feedback will take time.
Do not take his course if you aren't really passionate about ethics like he is. At times I thought he was speaking in riddles because he was so confusing. His grading also doesn't make sense. Overall don't take it but at least you don't have to write any long papers
