His notes are out of order according to the book. YOu must read the book because he is very interested in asking for details of processes and other aspects.
8 AM CLASS...TIRES TO KEEP IT INTERESTING BY DANCING, SINGING, ETC
He reads from the powerpoints in class. You are expected to know difficult concepts and a lot of them. Your grade is COMPLETELY based on test scores.
he reads straight from powerpoints that aren't that helpful, he is always around if you need help but still almost everything is from the book. i suggest buying the study guide it helps a lot. and yes, he does jump around and dance to wake up his morning class. as a prof he's alright but his tests are really tough.
Test were ridiculously difficult. Read the book & study guide. His notes were not helpful at all. Don't take him, if you have another choice. If you're stuck with his class like I was, just bare with it. But making A's on test are quite unlikely unless you're a genius.
He's a tough teacher, I would recommend coming to lecture very well prepared. Read everything beforehand becuase if not the lecture is going to confuse you. definately buy the study guide. his tests are hard and he offers no curves except on the final grade. if you take him just be ready to make biology your life.
Very tough course. If you're not a Pre-Med, Bio, or BIMS major, do NOT take this course. You MUST read the textbook to do well. There is online practice available, but this should only be used to reinforce the reading, not as your sole method of study. Tests are tricky. He is very helpful in office hours, though. Nice guy, but difficult class.
Tests were very tricky and hard to prepare for. Biology will quickly take up 90% of your time, so I suggest not taking Chemistry if you are taking his class, or Math. Final Exam tested us over 4 more chapters than the other Biology 111 teachers. He gives large amounts of material to cover for each exam, can feel very over-whelming.
really hard. tests you over more chapters than any other intro to bio prof. instead of 4 hours, this class should of been worth 10 hours (took up so much of my time). Go to class everyday and read the book throughly. doesn't curve until end of semester, 30 pt on final
He is a tough prof, but is good nonetheless. In order to do good you HAVE TO read the book, if you dont, dont even bother showing up on exams. I got an A in the class but it wasnt easy.
He is really interested in teaching the class. He is straight forward and if you attend class/SI you will be great :}
EXTREMELY HARD...will take up all of your time would not recommend if you don't have to take this course.
Dr. Tag was a very nice guy and he helps you with your questions, however his tests are very hard!! You would have to study everyday to pass! You would have to study the book, the SI sessions, the powerpoint, practice exams, and test banks. This class takes up you your whole time. Labs are very easy and chill.
If you are willing to spend your entire semester dedicated to bio 111 go ahead and take Tag, otherwise steer clear. He is very difficult and exams are extremely hard.
His lectures are bland. Homework is a piece of cake compared to the tests and no matter how hard I studied I still couldnt get passed a D on a test. The labs are the best way to save your grade. Read the book like its your life because it will become your life. Tag wasn't helpful in office hours, he didn't seem interested in talking to me.
This class is pretty hard to pass. I would spend hours on hours, days on days studying and going to 4.0 and would barley make a D . DO NOT DO IT TO YOUR SELF IF YOU DONT HAVE TOO!
GO TO A+ TUTORING if you want to pass any of the tests!! I never go to lecture because he just reads off power points provided online. The tests are worded pretty hard and YOU MUST STUDY. There are online problem sets that are easy. Lab wasn't so bad and will ultimately bring your grade up if you study and do all your assignments well.
I would recommend going to A Plus if you want to do well on the tests
This class is very tough, if you do not read the book. His tests are based on the book and detailed, therefore his powerpoints are not helpful. Recommend reading before class. Dr. Tag is very helpful, if you ask him for help during office hours.
Dr. Tag is one of those professors who are pretty smart but don't know how to teach properly. His lectures were REALLY boring. I skipped a lot of his lectures but still got an A because I read the book. His tests are pretty hard and his curves don't make a huge difference. He loves to answer questions for some reason, which I guess is a good thing.
I thought this class was easy, but to be fair, I took bio in high school. Dr. Tag's lectures are very helpful, but it takes a lot of discipline to pay attention for the whole time, and if you don't then you'll get lost. If you skip lectures then you have to put in the work to learn the material on your own (I skipped a lot and I was fine).
I studied for this class more than all of my other classes combined (all science classes). I made an A in all of my other class, but a B in this one. His lectures are so simple, but when it comes to the tests he basically wants you to memorize every detail in the book. He doesn't curve at all & I would never take him again. Unnecessarily difficult
If you don't read the textbook, get ready to struggle to pass. Dr. Tag is a really nice person, but his tests are extremely tough and downright impossible to get an A on if you don't read and do a lot of outside workstudying. Cumulative final as well that was my hardest final. Easily the hardestmost time consuming class of my first semester.
Tests are EXTREMELY difficult. I studied the hardest I've ever studied in my life for his class and still made low grades on his tests. The questions are worded in the most confusing way. GO TO A+! It's the only reason I knew what was going on. He only skims over what you need to know for the test. Labs quizzes are hard but the assignments are not.
Bio 111 is already hard, but Tag's final is impossible. The class is boring and difficult. Even with A+ the class was a struggle. I don't recommend this prof if you do not have photographic memory.
Dr. Tag is a good professor. He knows a lot about biology by expects that you know a lot about biology too. HIS TESTS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I studied harder than I have for any other class and barely pulled a good grade in his class. He focuses on a lot of detail and a lot of analysis. You will learn, but it will be difficult.
I would suggest not taking Tag unless you know everything and anything about biology. His lectures were usually boring and he pretty much just read stuff off the slides. I felt like I learned more from other students asking questions in class and his answers were usually really important.
Tag is a great professor, his lectures were informative and also posted on ecampus in case you missed lecture. Read the textbook and attend class and you should be fine. The final is easy if you read. I would take him again.
I had an 8am with him and he was still awake and talked clear. He uses his slides a lot during lecture which are mostly straight off the textbook so its good to have as a summary of each chapter. If you hate reading at least go to class. If you need to talk to him he responds to emails fast and tries his best to help you if you seek him. Good prof
I get bored in his lectures easily. Smart guy. Reading helps although I never read. I am struggling to make a C. S.I's are good along with A+ tutoring.
I thought I loved BIO until i took this class. For what it's worth, the course itself is extremely difficult, so it may not all be Tag's fault. Reading is a definite must, and make sure you actually understand what you're reading, because memorization doesn't help on his tests. On the bright side, he was a pretty funny guy!
I loved Dr. Tag! He really understands biology and his tests are straight from the book. He doesn't take attendance so I didn't attend a lot of classes but still got A's on every test. He posts his lecture slides to ecampus. When I did go to lectures, I really enjoyed them. He is funny in a nerdy way. If you read the book, you'll be fine.
Tag, is a tough professor. But his class is not impossible. His lectures are basically the textbook. Like any Biol 111 class his test are tough, and you need to study a lot. But he's a pretty nice guy and loves to answer questions. He is a goofy professor who acts out topics during lecture. I would take him again.
Lectures have nothing to do with the exams. Reading the book and going to A+ Tutoring, along with having a perfect lab grade will allow you to pass with a D. Extremely difficult class. Most students drop or fail but he keeps teaching because of 10 year.
A plus was very helpful, lots of questions from the test bank. Lectures were long and boring and not an exact match with the test. I would suggest reading the text book. He liked to pick a couple of random super specific questions for each test. Homework was super easy and usually appeared on the next test
Tag was always energetic and seemed to be in a good mood, which made paying attention much easier. Knowing the book backwards and forwards for the tests. I went to A+ and it saved my butt, I didn't read the book at all after the first test and made solid Bs. He posts his slides online.
I didn't have the money for a textbook but I went to A plus and had a 67,65,and a 70 on the first three tests. The tests are very hard even if you know all the info on the slides or test bank, his wording is tricky and unnecessarily hard! Maybe it would have been better with the textbook, but I passed.
Dr. Tag is a better-than-typical biology professor. While the content is pretty boring, he tried to make it seem more interesting. He has a way with his explanations that I thought were hilarious. He teaches straight from the book and posts his notes online so attendance isn't necessary, but I think he helps explain things well so it would help.
His class is very tough overall, his lecture kind of jumps from place to place which makes the topic being learned very confusing. I went to A+ and SI sessions, read the book, and even made flashcards and everything and only passed his test with grades around a 70. Made a 67,70, and a 66 on the three exams. My class went from full to 1/3 of a class
He was helpful when I had questions but his tests were super specific but he lectures right from the powerpoint so most people don't even come
His lectures are composed of only what the textbook says; you can either go to class or read the book (the book will explain the concepts better). The lectures are often boring.
Don't pass him by just because grades are low. Bio is hard to begin with. He's willing to answer question in class. He mainly reads of his powerpoint which he later posts online so attendance isn't required. He posts practice exams before each test which are helpful.
Slides come directly from the textbook but do not offer enough information to do well on tests. Classes are pointless and you're better off studying on your own. No extra credit or bonus points.
Dr. Tag is one of the harder Bio professors. TAMU's bio department is hard to begin with, but Tag does not curve at ALL or offer and extra credit like some of the other professors do. I am an honors student and struggled to make a C. Going to a+ is a must, reading the book, and studying at least a week in advance for tests will allow you to pass.
Dr. Tag's lectures were always interesting, he tried to make the students more interested in what was going on. His tests do have a high level of difficulty (very detailed), but reading the chapters, and outlining them helps a lot. I recommend Khan Academy for further understanding as well as attending SI sessions.
Dr. Tag was a very nice person and willing to help you out if you had questions. His tests however are basically impossible unless you can memorize every single thing in the book. This class is constant work outside of reading as well. The more stuff you do to learn the higher chance you have of doing better.
Terrible professor. During his lectures he only reads off of a powerpoint and doesn't explain anything. His tests are very specific, and totally impossible. No extra credit or curve. Attendance isn't mandatory because he never actually teaches anything during class. If you want to have someone read you the material and not actually learn, take Tag.
He's a good teacher and does a pretty good job in keeping his students focused on his lectures considering the material... The class averages are Cs but if you ask him questions after class he doesn't hesitate to help you understand. He goes fast in lecture but he posts his slides online. Go over the slides & you could do without reading the book
The best way to do well in Dr. Tag's class is to read the chapters in the textbook that correspond to lecture BEFORE you go to lecture. His lectures are a summary of the chapters in the textbook and are good for solidifying concepts learned from the book. Unfortunately he doesn't cover everything in lecture that's in the book so READ!!
Dr. Tag is a nice guy, he is willing to answer questions and help if you ask, but his tests are really tough and his lectures are hard to get through. He gave me a solid foundation for Biology 112 so I'm grateful for that, there are easier profs, but he's not the worst.
If you want to get a solid foundation of general biology, he's your prof. A little more lively than some of the other profs, and does a good job lecturing. A-Plus correlates VERY closely with the class, so if you want an A, there's your ticket. He won't hesitate to explain any concepts or answer questions, and is passionate about his teaching.
Dr. Tag was overall an above average professor. This was my first semester taking biology ever since freshman year of high school, and scraped by with an A. He definitely makes you work for the A, and definitely read the book backwards and forwards before tests. However, he had great energy and I didn't mind attending class with him. Good luck!
Online homework. No quizzes. Hard tests. You pretty much have to read every word in the textbook. His lectures were alright. He was a nice guy. But the class was definitely difficult. No curves. The textbook is what will get you through the class.
Tag is overall a good professor, he is funny and cares about his students. In class he reads off the PowerPoint, making it okay if you skip a couple of classes. First couple of test are fairly easy but they get harder as the year progresses. Would highly recommend to take him as long as you go to SI!
Dr. Tag's tests are hard, but they are a fair evaluation of your knowledge. They test comprehension not just memorization. He gives plenty of opportunities for bonus points and free points from online quizzes. You do have to read a little bit outside of the slides if you want to do well but you only have to get mid 80s on the tests to get an A
Tag was a very good professor. He was always energetic while conducting his lectures. The lectures were easy to understand, and it's easy to catch up if you missed a lecture. He does have in-class points though. The tests were surprisingly easy. As long as you study and put in a decent amount of work into the class, an A is quite doable.
Dr. Tag makes listening to him read a powerpoint as interesting as possible. He does post his slides online, but he offers in class extra credit about once a week, so attendance is rewarded. All of his test questions come from the Campbell test bank, so study old exams and you will do fine!
He is a good professor to take for your first semester of college, but make sure you either do tutoring for his tests or study on your own greatly. I attended 4.0 and Go, to get the grade i wanted. The lab that comes along with it is the more difficult part of the class.
Dr. Tag was my favorite prof this semester. His class is enjoyable, he's funny, and his tests are straightforward and fair (based on the power points). Reading the textbook helps, but is not necessary. Not necessarily an easy A (no biology classes are) but an A is very possible if you prepare for the tests and attend lecture for extra credit.
I thought Dr. Tag's lectures were very boring because I'm not the type to learn by him reading straight off the powerpoint. Even though he posts the slides online, I only showed up for the in class extra credit which really helped my grade. Going to SI and 4.0 and go really helped me. I didn't read the textbook and still got a pretty good grade.
Dr. Tag is a great teacher and interacts well with the class. Lab is harder than all the tests. For the tests, I recommend going to 4.0 and go.
There is an option to receive extra credit through a program called Learning Catalytics. If you go to every single lecture and get the credit for each one (you get the points whether or not you get the question right), you will get a whole letter grade higher than you expect. The tests are derived from test banks and the lab is the hardest part.
Dr. Tag is a relaxed lecturer, and will answer any questions in office hours. The textbook is the key to doing well on his tests! Read the chapters before class and go to SI after class that evening. Lecture is mandatory because he will give a lot of bonus points. Again, read the text book and answer a lot of practice questions in SI.
I had Dr. Tag and I loved his lectures! The test difficulty was very high, but in this course that is expected everywhere. He gave extra credit through a point attendance system. The thing I struggled with was the lab, unfortunately there is no control over TA, so hope you get a good one. Wish I could've done better, but I focused more on Chemistry
Dr. Tag is a great professor. He simplifies the material so it makes more sense. His lectures are engaging and he makes learning bio fun. Study his power points, everything on the tests can be found in them, but you really have to understand the information and not just memorize it.
Tag is one of the better Biology professors at A&M. Definitely would recommend taking him, he's very thorough and will go over exactly what he wants you to know for his tests. He definitely cares about his students and lectures are pretty interesting.
I loved Dr. Tag's class! Your grade is comprised of 3 tests, 50 points worth of homework (divided into 7-8 individual assignments worth 6-7 points each), and a cumulative final. His lectures are interesting and he keeps the class moving. Offers extra credit randomly, so show up to class to earn it. Would've made an A if it hadn't been for lab.
Dr. Tag was an alright teacher. His lectures, however, were never as specific as the questions he presented on exams. His power points were not very specific and didn't go in-depth into the different concepts. I recommend outside tutoring for this class, go to SI sessions and read the textbook.
Dr. Tag is probably the best choice for BIOL 111 at TAMU. The lecture really isn't that bad but the lab isn't great. Everything in lab depends on your TA's preference, which can be frustrating. Reading the textbook is pretty helpful if you do it before lecture so you have a better idea of what is going on.
Dr. Tag was great! Really funny, so lectures were entertaining. Teaches from the textbook. I read every chapter which is what I assumed helped me. Attendance isn't necessary, but he does random extra credit (every extra credit day is an extra point on a test). Lab isn't bad, but study for the weekly quizzes.
Dr. Tag was my professor for BIOL 111. He posts the slides on ecampus after lectures. There is a weekly online assignment. The labs are not difficult, but you do have to work hard to get them right. Office hours are great, he once sat down with me for an hour and helped me. Great professor, but you really have to work to get a good grade.
All-in-all Tag is a very good professor. He makes his lectures interesting and gives out random bonus points. They are not mandatory but I highly suggest going, could be the difference in an A and B. The labs are not too difficult but they do require a lot of time studying. The tests are very difficult, but A+ helped me tremendously!
Dr. Tag is amazing! You can tell he is passionate about biology and the lectures are pretty easy to understand/follow! I've found his tests are relatively text explicit/not too difficult, but it could be because I have a strong Bio background. Go to class, as he does do random LC questions recorded for extra credit!
Even though attendance isn't mandatory, show up! Learning Catalytics may be the difference between a letter grade. Trying reading the chapters in the book that he will go over. This course will interchangeably help you will lab. Do not cram all the studying for an exam the night before, this WILL NOT work! Quality of studying is better quantity
The tests are extremely difficult and are basically testing your ability to remember sentences from the textbook. Go to A+ and you will at least get a B on every exam. Offers extra credit through Learning Catalytics. He does keep lecture interesting and keeps us from falling asleep, but makes tests way harder than the content needs to be.
Hes a nice guy and a good/engaging teacher. But the tests are really really tough and you need to go to A Plus. I really struggled with the lab and brought me down from an A to B, but it just depends on your TA. Overall this is a very time demanding class and i struggled. Caused me a lot of unneeded stress.
His lectures contain the basis of whats going to be on the test. In order to do well on tests, you need to read the textbook. Sometimes his lectures aren't very clear, but SI sessions helped a lot. Overall he's a pretty good professor who tries his best to entertain the class. Recommend going to class because he gives bonus points for attending.
Tag is a great choice for Biology 111 at A&M. I took AP Bio in high school and the textbook he used was the exact same. His test review questions are often word for word on the actual tests. 10 Problem weekly homework due every Wednesday, that only takes a few minutes and you get multiple attempts. Also a really funny and caring guy!
Tag is the best bio prof you can get. He sometimes speeds through material, but he knows his stuff and it shows in his lectures. There's extra credit and regular, easy homework to help pad your grade. His tests are clear and comprehensive. He makes the material easy to understand. Take him if you can!
Tag is a great prof for BIOL111 and one of the best I've had at A&M. Interesting lectures and in-class bonus points! Lab isn't too bad if you get a good TA and it also helps solidify that week's lecture. Going to A+ should get you B's on exams but he will also ask specific questions from his notes so study both equally. Taking him again for 112.
Not a hard class but the exams were challenging & make up most of your grade. Extra credit if you go to class. Textbook not mandatory, but necessary if u want to do good on the exams, STUDY IT! Homework's easy & he's easy to follow during lecture, he's one of the better biology teachers. If I'd studied more for exams, I would've gotten an A
One of the best profs you can take for BIOL 111. He really tries to make you understand the material during lecture, but reading the textbook before lecture is the key to getting a good grade. Very friendly and easygoing. Offers extra credit for attendance to help with your grade. Not an easy class, but this prof made it better.
Great prof! He was always ready to answer questions, very helpful, and kind. Also very intelligent but easy to understand. He is passionate about his work and students it was a pleasure to take his course. His practice tests are really helpful
Despite what you might hear, Tag for 112 is a solid choice. Yeah, the course is harder, but you'll learn a lot. Lab sometimes is a pain, but if you stick with it, there will be more interesting topics (like anatomy & physiology). Dissections at mid to end of year. READ READ READ the text before lecture to prep for tests and lab manual before lab!
Dr. Tag is a good choice for Bio 112. This was his 1st semester teaching it. LC points just like 111. Make sure to read the chapters before going to lecture, as it makes the class more understandable. Labs can be difficult though, so reading the manual beforehand helps. Fun lab stuff at the end of the semester. Work hard and you can learn a bunch!
Dr. Tag is a great professor! His lectures get a bit boring but his power-points have lots of important information. His exams are hard but not impossible to pass. All the information you need is in his power-points. I never used the book and still got a decent grade.
I couldn't imagine taking anyone else for BIOL 111, Doctor Tag was by far the best. I ended up taking him for 112 also due to how much better my experience was with him compared to the other professors. Homework and lecture strongly correlates to the tests, and he does everything he can to provide extra practice to prepare students.
Tag is an amazing prof. He is so nice and makes the best dad jokes, but more importantly he is a great lecturer. If you go to class and read the book it is possible to make an A, lab is the hardest part.
A really good prof for a really difficult class. Lab was by far the hardest part of this class, though the lecture portion was still tough. He really engaged you in his lectures. You for sure have to work for your grade in this class but I think Tag is a good option! He hasn't curved but hopefully he will make the exception because of 112 lab.
Tag focuses his class primarily around the lectures and material from the book. He is my favorite biology professor by far and genuinely cares about his students. He is always available in his office hours and will take time to actually discuss anything you don't understand. Great guy, and even better teacher. He gives extra points if go to class.
Dr. Tag is so passionate about biology, and it really helped me understand concepts more! He posts pwoerpoints online, which are taken straight from textbook information. BIOL112 is not the most exciting subject, but he makes this subject more bearable.
Tag is an awesome professor, and I HIGHLY recommend him. He doesnt really require too much work outside of class, but you will have to work if you really want an A in the class. Going to SI sessions is super helpful, and lectures are very important to the class. He also gives random extra credit just for coming to class, so make sure you go!!!
Best prof for bio 111/112. He's fair and there's extra credit in the form of LC points. You have to be present to receive the points, however.
He's the best prof for bio 112. He's fair and tries to convey the course material in the best and most logical way possible. The material itself is difficult. He does an excellent job at answering students' questions during lectures and even offers extra credit. The extra credit is based on attendance so don't skip lecture. The lab is crazy....
I took Dr. Tag for BIOL 111&112 and would highly recommend him!! They are hard classes but he does a great job at breaking info down and presenting it in an interesting way. Lab for 112 was ridiculous but that's not really his fault. Go to class - there's roughly 30 points of extra credit to earn with LC.
Definitely not an easy class. Hardest part about it was lab. He offers bonus points from attendance, so go to class. They make a big difference at the end. He tries to make lectures more interesting. One of the best professors you can take for bio 111/112.
Dr. Tag was an awesome professor and I would highly recommend him! He is always available for any outside help and genuinely cares about his class and students. His tests are difficult but not impossible, just make sure you go to class to maximize the exposure to the material (especially since lots of the material is memorization based).
I had him for 111 and 112 and he is one of the best professors I've had so far. His course is fairly difficult so you do have to earn your grade but as long as you pay attention and study the PowerPoint lectures you should be fine. Also make sure you go to class for the extra credit points because it makes a huge difference.
Dr. Tag is really awesome. I took him his first semester teaching 112, and he did a great job! I did read the textbook before class, but he covers everything youll need for the exams in class, and he posts his slides. Overall I would highly recommend taking him, because his interesting lectures really helped me remember the information for exams.
Read the book if you want to really understand, but only reading the powerpoint can get you by. Set a reminder for the quizzes because lab will make you miss them. He uses a test bank! The tests aren't that hard if you go to SI which will help you more than the lecture. get a good seat up front if you want to learn, back if you want to sleep.
The hardest part of this class was probably lab. Besides that he has 3 exams, the final, and weekly problem sets. Its totally possible to get a good grade on his class even if you dont do so good in lab but you MUST do good on the exams. He does give some extra credit as long as you attend class. Those points really do help.
Tag doesn't use his own PowerPoints to teach and rambles quickly through the slides. If you aren't the type of learner who can listen and get something, take a different prof. That being said, BIOL112 is a difficult course. If you're taking calc 2 and chem along with this course do NOT take Tag. His tests are tricky and he does NOT curve.
I had Dr. Tag for both 111 and 112. He never tests on stuff he doesn't go over in lecture. Basically, if you read the textbook, you'll be fine. Andrew is super nice, and his lectures are enjoyable. He has a good sense of humor which makes lectures fun. BIOL 111 was super easy compared to 112, but I would definitely recommend Tag.
Dr. Tag is clearly extremely knowledgeable in his field. He lectures cover everything on the test but be prepared to study. I studied 5x more for the lab in this class than I did for the tests. The lab is what makes this class difficult, otherwise, it was much easier than Bio 111. Honestly, prepare every week for lab and you will get an A.
Dr. Tag is a great professor and his exams are very fair. He's easy to talk to and willing to work with you. You really have to beware of the lab attached to 111, it can make or break your grade. I had an A in lecture but lab brought my grade down to a C because of my TA being one of the difficult ones.
Dr. Tag is very knowledgeable professor who loves teaching Biology. His tests are straight from his power points which he posts online. Only thing is that there are only HW and test grades in the class so you must do well on the test. Easy B and getting a A takes memorizing the entire slides he posts
I had Dr. Tag for BIOL 111/112. He is passionate about what he teaches and is willing to help you learn outside of class. I would take him again in 111 for sure, I had him for his first time teaching 112 and he was still great, just less prepared. Ask good questions, do your homework and study hard over lecture material for tests. I recommend!
Dr. Tag really enjoys what he's teaching and makes his lectures interesting. He does iClicker questions and extra credit in class so make sure you show up. Tests are based a lot off of lecture and the book, but the slides are online. He explains things in a way that's easy to understand, but its a lot of information so study hard.
Does a lot of extra credit opportunities with learning catalytics, but make sure you show up to class because they're random. I didn't find him very funny, but some people do. He basically just reads off of the powerpoints which come straight from the book, so if you read the chapters you'll do fine on the exams. They're straight from the test bank
Love Tag!! His lectures are amazing and actually keep your attention. Im switching majors, but if I wasnt I would take him again! Super sweet guy with lots of extra credit and easy homework. Study for tests though! Especially the study guides he puts online.
Dr. Tag is a fantastic professor, I am honestly surprised that his scores from others do not reflect this. I took him for 101 and 102, and my only regret is that I cannot take him for any other courses. While he doesn't just give you an A, he doesn't make it overly difficult. He also makes time during office hours to help. Trust me, take Tag!
He genuinely loves and knows what hes teaching, which makes the lectures easier to bear.
Dr. Tag is extremely passionate about Biology and it shows in lecture. As long as you dont cram for tests there is no reason you shouldnt get an A.
Fantastic. Already registered for the next class with Dr. Tag! Very engaging, and cares about his students. Uses in-class questions (LC) for bonus points and posts his slides after each lecture.
His tests are not easy by any means, be ready to study and go to every SI available.
Dr. Tag was a decent prof. This class is not easy but he is very knowledgeable. He definitely holds you accountable for listening to his lectures, attending class, and putting in outside work- he doesn't make it easy. Although I am not taking him again for BIO 112 he is not a bad professor and I would not mind taking him again if necessary.
Dr. Tag is an awesome prof. Definitely not an easy course, but he tries to make it enjoyable. He posts practice exams that look similar to the test and uses learning catalytics as a way to earn points so def go to class. Homework is very easy. About 8-10 question on a problem assigned each week.
Dr. Tag is a great choice for biology 111. I will be taking him for 112 as well. This was not an easy class and you definitely have to work for it, but getting an A is not impossible. If I am being honest, I never read the textbook and just went to A+ tutoring and got a season pass. I just studied that stuff and got an A in the class.
Be ready to study if you take Tag. You definitely have to work for a decent grade. He gives some extra credit and I would not recommend skipping class. He goes over slides in class extremely fast but does post them. Homework isn't too heavy and S.I. sessions help a ton!! Tests aren't easy but if you study, you should be fine.
Dr. Tag is definitely the prof you need to take for Bio 111. He does go through slides pretty fast but he's interesting to listen to. My biggest advice is BUY AN A-PLUS SEASON PASS! It was the BEST way to study for this class. Tag's class is hard but he's approachable and gives LC as extra credit so try not to skip class often!
Let me start off by saying I was advised me to take tag because he was a good professor. I respectfully disagree hes teaching skills are terrible, his exams a ridiculous difficult in comparison to other professors. I honestly regret taking his class. Honestly youre better off taking Hawkins or someone else. P.S the lab in this class is ridiculous
Dr. Tag's love of biology is obvious as he's a "self-professed nerd". He isn't only passionate about the subject, but he is passionate about teaching, which can't be said for most professors in the science department who just want to be able to research. He tells great dad jokes and makes the subject interesting enough. The lab is very hard though.
Dr. Tag was an awesome teacher. He makes the material easier to understand. He is also super funny.
TAKE TAG FOR 111, not 112! Not easy but doable. Read and analyze notes, do problem sets and do good in lab and youre set!
If you're looking to learn and retain material, Tag is the best biology professor you can take in your first two semesters. His tests are difficult because they require you to APPLY the information you learned in lecture. He puts the powerpoint slides online after every lecture, but he does extra credit at random times as participation, so show up.
An overall good professor. He was always enthusiastic about what he teaches, and can keep lecture much more engaging. However, his exams were tough for me. Definitely attend SI sessions as they really helped for his exams. He adds 30 extra points to overall grade through LC, so definitely attend class since they are done at random times.
Dr. Tag is a solid choice for BIOL 111 and 112. His lectures are interesting and there's participation extra credit. (GO to class!) His exams are totally doable. SI is a great way to keep information fresh in your mind. He gives a practice test so use it! Be prepared to work a lot for BIO 112 Lab. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Tag is the best BIOL111 prof you can get. He will give out 30 extra credit point, but you must attend lectures to get the points. He made a very hard class very easy to understand.
If you truly want a bit of a challenge, Id say go for tag. Let me warn, he goes SUPER fast during lectures and his exams are very tricky but doable. His way of teaching is like him just brushing off the info like were supposed to know already whats going on. But dont let that scare you. Hes a good prof and he finds ways to keep class engaged
Tag was a great professor; he really cared about the students and how well we were doing in his class. Bio 112 however required a lot of reading and memorizing so the class in itself was difficult, but Tag did his best to help us out. The tests are somewhat difficult but only if you leave studying until the end. And show up to class for LC points!
Tag is an engaging lecturer and cares about his students. No textbook. The class itself is very difficult. His exams are tough and he makes sure you really know the material. The lab is even harder than the class. SI is extremely helpful for lecture and almost required if you want an A letter grade in the class. Thankfully, I just needed a C.
This class isn't even supposed to be hard... but why even go to lecture if Dr. Tag doesn't even go into depth about the most important things of the course. You have no option but to learn for yourself. Not a good option. Don't take Tag
Lamest class ever... unless you like plants. Oh, and Dr. Tag is so not as good as other people say. so sorry if you get him. I knew bio112 is not at all a blow off, but the cooperation of dr tag was so little. my ta was super helpful and I learned most of my stuff from her. the material learned from the lab did not even match the mat from the lab.
Yeah, he gives LC, but all bio teachers are required to give LC. All teachers give 30 points. However, all teacher's but tag take the time and effort to go through stuff SLOWLY. So take somebody else.... for your own good.
Would not recommend
Beware: He does not curve.
I had Tag for 111 and really enjoyed him and did well on the exams. Not the case for 112. His tests were very challenging and did not seem to represent the material from the textbook and powerpoints. I also felt like Tag did not teach well for 112 when compared to 111. Lots of memorization. Get LC points. Lab is the worst for this class. Take Hawk
Took Dr. Tag for Biol 111 and 112. Sat directly in front of classroom both semesters. Biol 111 was a breeze, but Biol 112 was much more difficult because of LAB. Do not take Tag for 112 because the lab TA's associated with his class are the worst (Sharon Epps!). Got an A in both classes, however, because I wasn't lazy.
You will not learn with him. You will learn to cluster. He's not at all a good teacher, he literally speeds through the notes. He also does not answer his emails. LC's help but tbh test were tough.
Tag is a great prof, but Biology 101 is not a walk in the park. Go to class, take good notes, study a lot! It is a lot of material, so keep up with it each week. Do NOT try to cram study the night before. A+ tutoring helps a lot with this class.
He is a good professor, albeit very fast on his lecture slides. Go to SI, it really helps after class. His tests do have some trick questions so read carefully. There isn't much homework, either. Take good notes and you'll be fine.
Dr. Tag is a great professor. He is a very nice man and he offers a lot of resources for outside help. He cares about his students and I thoroughly enjoyed going to his lectures. His tests are very fair if you are willing to study. I would say an A is very achievable in his class! He also gives up to 30 extra credit LC points, so show up to class!
He reads off slides and sometimes gives extra info that will be on the test. His test are incredibly difficult due to them being content heavy and some trick questions. The bio labs arent bad if you have a good TA. Remember to do lecture problems and lab quizzes. SI sessions are useful. The final is easier than the exams because its less specific
Good teacher. Tests aren't that hard as long as you pay attention during lecture, and take notes on the comments he makes that are not on the slides, as they will sometimes appear as test questions.
hardest bio112 prof by far after talking to friends with other profs. test are far from straightforward. they are hard and confusing and some seem like they have nothing to do with any material learned. you can study four days before the test and still fail.
Worst teacher I have had. genuinely did not care about students. Emailed him a few times and he never answered. He crams so much info
Biology is not the easiest course and requires a lot of effort to keep up and learn all of the material. Tag did read off of his powerpoints mostly so I found it easier to study by watching review videos and skimming through his powerpoints he posted. He does care and wants everyone to succeed, but you have to make sure you don't get behind.
Great prof. Had him for bio 111 and 112 and got an A+ both semesters. His lectures can be a bit fast paced at times but he covers all material he puts on the tests. He gives optional practice tests beforehand too which really help. SI was a big help here and there but by no means was necessary to secure the A.
(I had Tag for both BIOL111 AND BIOL112 and got an A in both of the classes) His tests are pretty challenging BUT not impossible. Just go over his lecture slides and read some of the (FREE and ONLINE) TB if needed. however, an issue i do have w/ his tests is that sometimes they cover 95% of one chapter, and the rest of the other material.. like wtf
tbh, i rarely paid attention in lecture but i still got an A. just read the TB and go over his lecture slides and youll be fine for the tests. his final exams are wack though, bc he SAYS that the final will be 50/50 new material and old material, but that is a LIE. for both the biol111 and 112 finals, 99% of final was new material. ur welcome.
Very exceptional professor. You can really tell that he cares about the information he teaches his students. My biggest advice: Try and get all the small points from the problem sets and pre lab quizzes... they really matter in the end.
Andrew Tag was such a great professor for my first semester at A&M. He gives really informational lectures and made all of his students more interested in biology. Although many students did not raise their hand in class, he encouraged it and was really responsive to those that did. Tag's practice exams were very similar in style to the real test.
I have no idea why Dr. Tag has a rating this low because quite frankly he does everything right. The test material matches his lectures. There isn't a great amount of homework. He's nice and approachable outside of class. He will make good jokes every once in a while. As long as you pay attention and study you will make an A. Overall, great prof.
I love Dr. Tag and im planning on taking him again next semester for bio 112. Bio is obviously hard but he always makes his lectures engaging. Go to SI sessions and go over the test reviews.
Prof Tag is really kind, and this class is not too difficult if you pay attention. SI was extremely helpful and likely the reason I did so well in the course. Do the "be able to's" like he says, and try to read the chapters in the book because it will really help solidify your understanding of the material. I hope to take him for BIO112!
A great and funny professor for introductory biology. Very helpful and understanding.
Dr. Tag is a good choice! You have to pay attention to what he says in class , it might be on the exam even if its not in the ppt. Very minimal homework (few problems) due every week. Test can be a bit harder but if you study and go to the SI SESSIONS you'll be fine. Up to 30 extra credit points in class! An A is very doable!!
Dr. Tag seems like a really cool person. But professor wise, I do not recommend. He goes way too fast in lectures and to really understand anything in that class, you have to read the textbook. If you have no background in biology like me, anything you read in the textbook is most likely going to sound like Greek. The labs were also terrible!
Everything was fine, but his tests are terrible. Lab was easy, but it depends on your TA. I could have gotten an A but the tests were ridiculous.
super nice guy, but there's a lot of material to cover so he goes pretty fast, most of the actual learning took place outside of class, and reading the FREE textbook is a must.
Dr. Tag is a great choice for Bio 111. DO THE LAB QUIZZES AND PROBLEM SETS! Those are free points that add up. He offers up to 30 points of extra credit if you attend class. Exams are lecture heavy. Take detailed lecture notes because he'll put specific examples talked about in class on the exam. Read the textbook or chapter summary before lecture
LOVED Dr. Tag. Taking him again next semester. He gives bonus points in class so I had over 100% for most of the year. Practice exams really help, and his lectures are great.
Really good teacher but will say tests were not always fair. SI helped a TON. Participate in class and get those LC points! I will say for the amount of effort and time I put into this class I should have gotten an A+ rather than barely pulling an A off. He never responded to any of my emails either.
Dr. Tag was absolutely fantastic. He has great lectures and his exams are heavily based on the lecture content, problem sets, and practice tests. The lab wasn't too bad--very independent. Do the problem sets, take the practice tests, go to lecture, and do the LC for bonus points. The textbook is free but I never read it and did just fine.
Great prof, there was a lot of extra points available to you to boost your grade. Be sure to read the textbook every once in a while for studying by purposes but other than that, if you take detailed good notes over the slides and pay attention during lecture, youll be fine.
Biol 112 is definitely packed with lots of info but Dr. Tag made it so much more enjoyable! He goes kind of fast during lecture and skims through some parts, but I enjoyed his teaching overall. Also, be prepared to study the material frequently! The content builds up very fast and requires lots of memorization.
He's an okay professor however he goes super fast and doesn't upload lecture slides until after class. His questions are super specific about stuff on his lecture slides, so you have to study EVERY little detail. If you pay attention in class and take notes and give yourself days in advance to study, you'll be fine. Do all the assignments and EC.
Good news: this class is definitely do-able and an A is possible Bad news: the textbook isn't "mandatory" but it helps so much unfortunately it sucks to read but you just have to force yourself Dr. Tag is great prof but there is just so much material to cover so he tends to lecture fast, this is definitely a class where you need to review alone.
IF YOUR OPTION IS RAO OR TAG TAKE TAG. Although Tag might have pretty boring and standard lectures, he truly wants you to succeed. I had Rao in the fall and she told us every day how much of a disappointment we were, so then i switched to tag and it was a totally different experience. your grade is mainly just problem sets and tests to study hard
took doc tag twice and i love him. He's very approachable and makes things understandable. going to lecture isn't required but i went every time because he will randomly award bonus points that can bump up your grade by a whole letter. tests were hard, but just find a good way to study and you'll be fine. Loved doc tag, would take him again!
Tag is a nice person but his class was very difficult for me. I would find myself studying for hours and barely get a 60. He goes very fast during lectures and I never had time to write down all the info I needed. He does upload the slides tho. He also randomly rewards bonus points for going to class which could def boost your grade by a letter.
Listen, if you are serious about learning the material from Biol 111/112 (Pre-med/Pre-Dent/etc) then you should take Dr. tag. Not only do you learn tons of material, but his class is awesome. He is a great lecturer. Exams are difficult, but attending SI and reading the textbook should allow you to always be above the average.
Tag is honestly amazing. He is very upbeat and makes his lectures interesting and fun to listen to. His exams do require a good sense of understanding and are kind of difficult. I would focus on the slides and do the Be Able To's. Make sure to go to class because he randomly gives extra credit opportunities.
He sets clear expectations as to what needs to be done to excel in class, and will even sometimes personally remind you through canvas when various quizzes are due. If you read the free textbook, attend SI, pay attention in lecture, and make use of the practice exams and lecture quizzes, you'll be fine. Minimal extra credit from a paid-for website.
Im so sad I wont be able to take Tag for next semester. I really enjoyed his class even if it was a more challenging one. I would not recommend skipping lecture because he provides a lot of info. His exams are definitely tough no doubt, but I believe he is a great bio prof. He is very passionate about bio and I found it to be motivating.
He's a great person but his class was very difficult for me. The tests are very analytical so you have to know the material very well. Learning Catalytics is literally a LIFESAVER, COME TO CLASS FOR THAT. Class is lowkey pointless he goes so fast in lectures like I can't even understand him to take notes so it's like I'm just sitting there.
Took him Fall 2020 over Zoom. Honestly, going to lecture was not helpful, as he often only glossed over some slides for the sole purpose of being able to put the info on the exam (questions would be more in-depth than his slides went). Studied pretty hard and was a couple points away from an A. Go to class & do the pre-lab quizzes and problem sets.
I LOVED DR TAG!!! I took him for bio 111 and he was a great professor. It's definitely a class that requires a lot of studying, but if you go to class and pay attention to the lectures, it will help a lot. He also gives a good amount of extra credit. Don't listen to any of the low ratings because I can guarantee you that they didn't try hard enough
Dr. Tags a great professor. Go to class because he gives random bonus points through LC. Lectures are long and can be a bit boring, but important to pay attention. Tests are pretty difficult, but if you study whats on the slides, getting at least a B shouldnt be a problem. No curves, but drops a few questions. Weekly problems sets are freebies.
I took Dr. Tag for both 111 and 112. He is super passionate about biology and makes his lectures interesting. His tests are quite difficult and some contain more material than others. Your grade is mostly based on tests however there are problem sets and extra credit LC questions he randomly does in class. I would highly recommend Dr. Tag!
Pretty standard professor. Attendance def needed for the bonus points. SI sessions are highly recommended just writing notes in lecture will probably get you a 70-80 max on tests if you really pay attention. Super fun and chill prof overall, highly recommend.
For Bio 111, the material was pretty easy. Dr.Tag's test required you to memorize a lot of information, but it was not impossible to get high scores on the exam. He cares for his students and provides many resources (including himself) to help you succeed.
Bio 112 is much harder than Bio 111. There is more material to cover and definitely more specific details you need to know. His exams not only require you to memorize the information, but also apply it to the question. The class is enjoyable and interesting. I would say he a great professor if you were looking to go into the medical field.
Dr. Tag is a nice person, that truly wants all of his students to succeed. His lectures are quite fast but he tries to make the material as interesting as possible. I never ended up using the free textbook, since I just utilized the learning objectives. His exams are pretty fair and going to his office hours really helps! Definitely recommend Tag!
Highly recommend Dr. Tag. He is easily accessible and always willing to answer questions until you understand. Lecture moves pretty fast, but just study his slides and you should be fine
good prof. HAVE to study exams and really be able to apply the material you've learned because they're not really based on what he physically says. Overall good prof but if you're just taking bio for the credit and not because you LOVE it... I'd recommend skipping out, it will drop your GPA. GO TO CLASS- LC (extra credit) helped me pass
Very kind prof, one of my favorites. Always willing to help his students. Wold absolutely take again!!
Dr. Tag was an excellent professor! He cares about his students success and is passionate about the content he teaches. As long as you are able to study the lectures and able to memorize the fine details, you will do great on the exams. This course requires a lot of studying but it is for sure achievable to make an A. Take Dr. Tag!
I have had Dr. Tag for both BIOL 111 & 112 and he is an excellent professor. He wants you to succeed in and out of the classroom and is loves to help during office hours. 112 is a difficult course due to how content heavy it is, there is a lot of memorization and will need a large amount of time to digest. Study hard and doing well is within reach!
Dr. Tag is a great professor! I thought he made the class very interesting! This class does involve a lot of studying and you need to go to class to get lc points which can really help you grade! He is also always willing to help in office hours! Overall Dr. Tag is a great professor and if you work hard, you will do great in his class!
I loved taking Dr. Tag's courses; I had him for BIOL 111 and 112. I only studied the material on the PP, and I received an A on all of the exams. It's important to study a lot and memorize details in the lecture slides. While attendance wasn't mandatory, you could get extra credit on the LC questions, so I would recommend going.
Dr. Tag is great. He really cares about his students and he is passionate about teaching biology. Overall, the class was not too difficult but you do have to study a bit especially before tests. If you get a good routine going and prepare really well for tests, you'll do great.
BIOL 112 was difficult because of the amount of material. I recommend going into the first exam over-prepared because that's what is going to hold your grade as you go more into ecology. Dr. Tag was very helpful and I loved having him as a professor. I don't feel that he made the class difficult, just the amount of information was the issue.
Although he is an amusing lecturer, he is condescending and goes very quickly so go to office hours for clarification on things you would think you wouldn't need clarification. He has a way of making his exams like puzzles but if you make sure to write out the objectives and answer them thoroughly, you should make a solid B. Extra credit saves you.
GO TO CLASS!! You will not be able to study based off of the powerpoints, you must go to class because he builds onto the slides with important information you need to know. He also gives random Learning Catalytic (clicker) questions throughout the week that are a big extra credit boost on your tests. Study hard and you'll be fine.
Tag is a very good professor. His tests can be challenging but as long as you study hard and do LC points, you will be fine.
Tag is easily my favorite prof! His exams can be difficult but ALL material is in slides/problem sets and not too difficult. You can tell he cares about his students and loves helping them in office hours. He makes jokes during class and is really easy to follow. Take time to look over notes and you'll do fine. Take Tag!
He makes lectures enjoyable and entertaining. His exams are challenging, but if you pay attention during lectures, especially to what he says outside of the PowerPoint, go to office hours, and get the extra credit points during in-class knowledge checks, you will do well in this class. Tag is the best, TAKE HIM!
LOVE Dr. Tag for 111. best 111 prof. extra credit through LC points so show up to class. lab and lecture combined can be heavy, so time manage. he's super caring and lectures are helpful for exams. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. problem sets every week (3 tries each). put in the work and it will pay off!
I love Tag and am sad he only teaches for bio majors. He was amazing and rarely gave homework to do, but if you do not pay attention the homework makes up for it with study time. His material had some parts easy, some parts hard, but he was always willing to explain anything we needed. We love him!!!
I took Tag for my first semester at A&M. He is a great professor and clearly knows a lot about biology. I will say, the actual course is difficult and had me wanting to switch majors at time. Go to lectures because extra credit is given for attendance, but exams are fairly straightforward if you study the slides and do the practice exams.
Dr. Tag completely changed my view of biology as a whole. Everything he had to say was so insightful and everything had meaning. He truly cares about expanding your knowledge of biology and not just passing his exams. Make sure you take the practice exams, though, because the tests are fairly similar.
Gave lots of extra credit opportunities that can bump your grade about 5% throughout the semester for attending lecture, doing some surveys, practice quizzes for lab etc. It's hard because of the course content means you have to remember what seems like small details, but it's not hard to score well because of the extra credit.
He is an amazing professor. I love biology, and he explained everything in-depth and eloquently. There are many opportunities to bump your grade and his practice exams give you insight into how he will ask questions.
awesome prof but his tests can be hard if you don't properly study. gives tons of extra credit that can boost your grade up a whole letter if you attend class. gives practice exams that give u a good idea on how his tests will go so definitely do those !!
Dr. Tag is one of the best professors in the biology departmnt. He is highly respected and knowledgable but he expects a lot from his students because they are mainly pre med. His tests are some of the hardest tests I have ever taken but LC will get you bonus points. A B or A is possible if you do well in labs and study HARD for tests
He's the best, but biol 112 is harder than 111 and he is seriousss abt it. Some professors are easier, look at those first but if you get Tag he's still so good!
Dr. Tag is so passionate about his material... but that is the problem. He gives such detailed lectures and exams it is almost impossible to learn everything. Other professors teach exactly what you need to know and don't try to trick you on exams. Tag? Nope. Expect the most minute details to be on your exam. If you care about your grade, avoid.
Dr. Tag is an AMAZING prof! I had him for 111 and 112. 112 is more in depth and memorization based, so get ready to study! 30+ extra credit points, problem sets, and lab all help boost your grade! study a week in advance for exams and go to class! as long as you are on top of your work, you will do fine!
Definitely a harder class but Tag makes it manageable, one homework assignment a week and it's easy. Lab can build up, but overall if you study hard for the tests and get the easy points in lab you can easily make an A. Tag is a great prof and a super nice and understanding guy, highly recommend.
My favorite professor at TAMU. Gives 30 LC points overall (LC code given during class, so attend lectures) that are added directly to your total [out of 700: 4%]. Passionate about the material, loves interacting with students, a highly engaging lecturer. Review problem sets and practice exams for tests! An easy A w LC.
nice & funny guy who clearly loves bio. course overall is v dense w material but he tries to make it easy to understand. 30 max LC pts. 12 hw sets. tbh exams are hard compared to other biol112 profs & it's just a ton of memorizing info, but he does drop the most missed questions on it & has a few practice exam problems + hw set problems in it.
The exams were hard, tiny details that showed up on a slide that Dr. Tag spent a couple of minutes going over sometimes showed up. Biol 112 was harder than 111, but also more interesting. Dr. Tag offers extra credit that can increase your grade by 5%. I like how the Canvas grade calculator was actually set up for this class.
He taught really well. Exams often had questions from the practice exams that he gave us. 40-question MC tests (60 questions in the final) with each question worth 2.5 points. Getting even a few questions wrong can affect your grade. However, the course has 700 possible points and 30 extra credits, so an A isn't hard to get if you study well.
Nice guy. Great lectures. Attendance is mandatory since he does LC once a week. Exams are fair. Give small extra credit. If you take him be ready to study
He cares about the students, and puts effort into being entertaining during class. He creates a nice atmosphere during class, and has nice and light condensed slides for lecture. I read the book though, to be able to understand things better. He's a great professor and will be taking him again for 112. He as generous office hours and SI sessions.
Dr. Tag is a nice guy with entertaining lectures. 112 is harder than 111, I recommend studying the practice exams a lot as he pulls some questions from them and memorize the slides as well. I used Quizlet to study slides. 3 exams and a final, weekly (VERY SHORT) homework, and LC for attendance. Would recommend!
He is such a great teacher, his lectures are engaging and easy to go along with. He obviously cares a lot for his students is always willing to talk to you if you are struggling. His assignments are weekly but are all very easy to do and relate to the material we are doing. His test are harder than other teachers but still very passable.
Great professor, would definitely take his class again. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the bonus iClicker points help your grade significantly. The only assignments are problem sets once a week, but labs also assign other work on top of that. As long as you keep up with the power points and attend lecture regularly, you should do fine on the tests
Dr. Tag is a great prof. His lectures were relatively easy to follow, and he did iClicker bonus questions in lecture on certain days. Problems sets were due every week along w/ the lab assignments. Manageable workload, but exams were pretty difficult if you didn't study well enough. SI sessions help, & he's always willing to answer questions!
Dr. Tag is super caring and overall a good professor. You need to study but he provides lecture outlines where if you truly understand each one, then you will get a good grade. He provides extra credit if you are in class whether you get the question right or wrong. The textbook is free and helpful but not really required unless you need it.
Only one problem set a week so the class is very test heavy and they are hard. He lectures well but there was concepts on the exam that were not talked about in class so it is neccesary to also take notes off the textbook. 30 extra credit iclicker points in class so show up!!
BIOL 112 was definitely harder than 111. However, the class is doable and not too bad if you study consistently. Also, go to lecture because he gives up to 30 bonus points just off of iClicker and other bonus point opportunities throughout the semester. He also gives sample exams, which he will pull a few questions from there to put on exams.
You have to go to class for this one, but thats okay because Tag keeps your attention. The way this guy teaches is phenomenal. That being said, this course is a little more difficult with him. Hard tests with specific information. If you can take in lectures well, youll be fine, especially with Tag's passion.
Had him for both 111 and 112. Did better in 112 because the trick is to read his slides everyday (not complicated material), do practice exams, complete lab material on time (easy point boosters), and really try to get maximum iclicker points (30 free points). 112 is a lot of memorization. No homework so spend time familiarizing with his slides.
Bio 111 was more conceptual than 112, so easier imo. 112 was ALL memorization and based off of his slideshows. He is definitely someone you want to take if you want to LEARN the material but if not opt out for someone easier for sure. He did offer extra credit and have office hours which was super helpful.
Don't take Prof Tag if you haven't taken AP bio in high school because you will be extremely lost. His lectures are convoluted and make biol 111 much, much harder than it needs to be. Only take him if you REALLY want to learn, not to understand the course material, get an A, and move on.
I took Tag for BIOL 111 and 112 and I will say that 111 is much more conceptual while 112 is memorization. He offers a lot of bonus points through attendance and provides sample exams before each exam which is really helpful. The textbook is free and online, but the exams are mainly straight from the lecture slides.
Tag was okay. I have a hard time with slideshows, and I found his to be a little disorganized (and it's all in Comic Sans). He was helpful and responsive over emails. There aren't many grades, so tests are important and also pretty hard. I wish the practice exams were closer to what to actually expect. He was nice, lectures could just be boring.
A is doable but WITH extra cred so come to class, especially during the last 2 week as those have more points per lec. Lab is not hard, most finish within the hour or so. Post-lab answers ez to find in pre lab modules. EXAMS are pure memorization, study w/ FLASHCARDS for sure. For lab exams, talk w/ friends who took it, same Q's will come in yours
I don't understand why there are so many bad ratings. Professor Tag was the best professor I've every had, and truly cared. I had him for Bio 111 and 112 and if you actually study and follow his lectures you'll do great. I'm not great at studying or even grades, but I managed to get an A so you can probably too.
He seems like a great professor at first glace, and he is alright but his exams are awful. There is no way to study for his tests because he adds hypothetical and trick questions. (He openly admitted to my class that he added trick questions to mess us up and laughed). If you care about your grade, DO NOT take him. I had to drop b/c of the exams.
Dr. Tag was a very good professor! His tests were pretty hard, but he offered a good amount of extra credit to make up for it. Make sure to study the practice exams he gives!
Dr. Tag is extremely intelligent and passionate about biology, however his exams make you not want to be. They were extremely difficult and hard to study for as his slideshows were very jumbled, so make sure you have a study group to help you. If another professor is available, I recommend them, but if not, be ready to study and go to office hours.
All the people who say his exams are too hard are the people that will get weeded out from the major. He's an amazing lecturer and honestly I took no notes in class. To study for exams: watch videos, make one pagers on the slides, and do the be-able-to's on the slides. Memorize the core topics and the exams should be super easy. Highly recommend!!
honestly, I have no words. i thought I was getting into a good class with a good professor based on the reviews but please, do not listen to them. Dr Tag is passionate in what he does but his tests are so hard that its not worth it. Yeah, this is a good class if you really want to lock in and learn but if you want to pass, good luck.
He is a good professor but his exams were hard and supposedly the hardest tests compared to other professors. The lab exam grading is also questionable.
Dr.Tag is a really brilliant man & his class is enjoyable to listen to. You can tell he is passionate about Biology and always has answers to any question you might have. However, his tests are very difficult and his lecture slides tend to have very minimal information. There isn't a crazy amount of homework and his class is easy to keep up with.
He is amazing! Just show up to all the lectures and take good notes. Although the slides are posted, I highly recommend going to his classes :)
I love Dr. Tag! I am taking him again for 112 in the spring. His lectures are very engaging and he (sometimes) does iClicker, which can give you up to 20 bonus points at the end of the semester. I would 100% read the textbook though, I found most of tests and problem sets came from there and the lecture was to help understand more. and hes funny!
If you want to start off college with a good GPA, STEER CLEAR OF TAG. He's a great person but his tests are so insanely difficult it's impossible to know what will be covered. I've spent hours upon hours, days upon days, studying for his exams, only to get a 70 or an 80 at best. By far the WORST class I've taken, choose a different prof if you can.
Great professor! Makes lectures interesting and exams doesn't affect your average as much as what you expected, but exams are usually content heavy. SI sessions really helped, and office hours can come in clutch. Had him both 111 and 112. Just make sure to familiarize the slides for anything on it is fair game.
If you want an easy A this is not the prof for you. Didn't take AP Bio in hs so it was harder for me. His lectures can be difficult to follow if you're hearing the material for the 1st time, practice tests and hw have questions similar to the exams, exams are heavy application and memorization. Just use the textbook and slides to study.
Dr Tag is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and pretty funny. However, the exams are challenging since he often uses scenario-based questions and all the questions require that you completely understand the topic. It is hard to get an A on his exams. There is iClicker extra credit for attending lectures.
Dr. Tag is an awesome professor to have as a first year student. He is very accessible during office hours and makes lectures enjoyable. Just make sure you study your be-able-tos, go to SI sessions, and at least skim the textbook and you should be good for tests.
If you go to lecture you should be good for the most part. I'll say the test questions are more difficult than the practice so be prepared and be aware of other resources you can use. Go to SI or office hours, those will help with reviewing material.
Overall, he was a great professor. However, I struggled in this class because I didn't take AP Biology in high school so a lot of the concepts presented were completely new to me while my peers were already familiar with these concepts. Dr. Tag jumps around a lot in his lectures, but he cares about his students and tries to explain everything.
Difficult class, especially fresh out of high school. Dr. Tag is phenomenal and is very engaging. Attendance not mandatory but extra credit is given randomly so I would attend if I were you!!
exams are super specific and don't really focus on conceptual understanding, if you want to do well in the class be ready to memorize every minute detail and example
Professor Andrew Tag is an exceptional instructor. His passion for the subject is evident in his engaging lectures, which seamlessly blend theoretical concepts with real applications. In addition his teaching prowess. Tag is a genuinely caring and supportive professor. This is what a delusional person would say. Do not take his class.
Professor Tag is awful, his ego is incredibly high and he thinks you should automatically just know everything. If you go to his office hours and ask him a question, he will laugh in your face. His exams are extremely hard, as the questions are conceptual and include tiny minuscule details he may or may not go over. Take anyone else.
I would choose a different instructor.
Super funny guy. Loved attending his lectures because of him, but the material is definitely tough. Exams are mostly memorization, some application as well. Know the material like the back of your hand if you want to succeed. I suggest going to every lecture even though they're just slides. YouTube was a godsend. SI sessions were helpful as well.
Dr. Tag's exams are unnecessarily difficult , and very conceptual, he includes tiny details he may or may not go over. Take anyone else. His lectures aren't horrible but didn't benefit me on the exams at all.
His exams are unreasonable difficult.
If, you like plants and can understand every miniscule detail of what goes into a fungi, protist, or virus, take Tag. If you are not as plant savvy, do not. His lectures are just reading off the slide, and the tests are based off of one sentence in the slides that goes more in depth on the test, BUT he doesn't in class. Take anyone else.
His comprehensive tests made me want to fight him. He is so hard to take notes for and likes to go on tangents that are not important but you can't tell if they are gonna be on the test. There was a motor protein labeled in microscopic font on A SINGLE SLIDE of a DIAGRAM and not explained and somehow there were 3 questions about it on the TEST!
He has interesting lectures but his tests are terribly specific and way worse than other instructors. I would not recommend if you want a good grade.
Love him so much as a person and a professor, but his exams are some of the hardest ever. I thought 112 would be better from 111, but really he just loves his meticulously worded questions. 112 is generally just hard due to all of the memorization, so get ready to reframe your study habits and exam prep timeframes. Lab is a breeze!
This class lowkey if you do not memorize EVERYTHING on the lecture slides your cooked. Every small detail even ones on like an example image would be on the exams. Exams were so wordy so beware of that.
Tests were extremely difficult. Tag will test you on the smallest of details, so you need to know the readings and lecture slides like the back of your own hand. Made the class a lot more difficult than it should be. Labs weren't to bad (I found them easier than 111), but it can also be dependent on TA. Tag is also super boring.
Don't take him, his tests are absurdly hard and have the most random details. Yikes.
Extremely difficult exams that do not reflect the content on the slides. His exams are based on powerpoints and his brain making up questions that he never had mentioned before. Exams are extremely wordy with answer choices that could all be correct. Gives up to 20 extra credit points if you go to class through IClicker so that helps I guess.
I love Tag, but his class is hard. Exams are extraordinarily difficult, and you have to put in a ton of outside work to do well (literally memorize everything on the slides). Go to office hours and SI sessions, and be prepared to study until your brain melts. Even though he's a great guy, if you want to keep your sanity, take a different prof.
Great professor. Lectures can get pretty boring at times but the information he provides is really helpful. Exams are based on lectures and textbook information (so read the textbook). Attendance is not mandatory but encouraged. Labs are pretty easy, especially if you pay attention. Lab exams are based solely off of information learned in labs
His exams are very application based and pretty difficult even if you think you know the material very well. His lectures were fine and engaging, but it seemed no matter how much I studied and thought I knew the material I could never do super well on his exams. Only one try on the homeworks, so didn't seem like he cared about our learning much.
Extremely difficult exams and less extra credit than the other professors. Do not take him it's not worth it
Such a kind and caring professor. knows what he is teaching well. however, he is a biology major and the exams reflect that. exam questions are so specific, you had to memorize every minute detail of slides. pictures, fun facts, bold terms, everything. if he said it once in class, there is a chance there's 4 questions about it on the exam.
Wait I'm not even saying this to be salty but genuinely his class is the worst class I've ever taken. he makes u understand and memorize every single tiny detail of the slides down to the smallest picture and if you don't know if, you're screwed like you're genuinely screwed. No amount of studying can save you so please escape when you can.
Hated lectures, he only read the slides. He is very smart and his exams reflect that. Memorize EVERYTHING on the 300 pg slides and you will be great! :) I emailed him out of class and never heard back. Extra credit provided. Take a dif prof if you want a social life during exams. Praying he will curve final :)
His lectures get really boring; he literally reads off the slides. His exams are extremely difficult; you have to know every single tiny detail to even have a slight chance of doing well on them. He also never responds to emails. If you want to keep a little bit of your sanity, I suggest you pick another professor.
I really struggled with the material in the class because it is a lot and his questions tend to rely on exceptions & understanding processes in a quick manner. In his office hours, he'd help me a lot, making references to relatable things & seeking for me to think critically, as was a funny guy. I'd recommend, just attend SI sessions & study a lot.
Dr. Tag is a funny and clear lecturer. His tests are pretty detail oriented, but not awful. BIOL 112 in general is more difficult than 111. The lab is weighted heavily so it can definitely bring your grade up. I would recommend taking him. The expectations for what to know are super clear. There are tons of opportunities to get help.
Great professor, but only take if you want a phd in fungi reproduction. We went sooo in depth compared to other 112 classes. Tests were HARDDD, and I would consider myself someone who studied a lot for the exams. An A is possible, you just have to put in the work and go to class; his exam questions are a lot about the things he says in class + EC.
Ok so ik he'll get a lot of 4's and 5's in the ratings which is justified considering that he's an all around cool dude BUT when considering the final goal of getting an A in the class especially if your pre-something he definitely isn't the best option considering how difficult his exams are with averages being in the high 60s and low 70s
I really liked Dr. Tag this semester! I will admit that his tests were hard, but if you paid attention and didn't try to cram, you were normally fine. BIOL 112 is very content heavy itself, and I notice a lot of people complaining are focusing on the class content and not Tag. He's an engaging lecturer and I would totally take him again.
Great guy, very clear he loves what he does. However, STUDY THE SLIDES UNTIL YOUR BRAIN MELTS THEN STUDY SOME MORE. I used quizlet and a whiteboard and I did ok.
Professor Tag is a quirky guy, BUT his exams are hard! If you're good at biology and have good studying skills, take him. Otherwise, take someone else if you can (The 2nd exam was a failing average and NO curve) There are assignments that help your grade (Only does so much), attendance is not mandatory, but bonus points for iClicker (2pts).
Originally he was not supposed to be my professor but my initial professor ended up leaving and got switched with him. He is a biology major specific professor and it was very evident with his tests. His averages for tests were around 60's and 70's and while he was a good guy and sometimes funny he made the course way more complicated.
Dr. Tag is a nice prof good lectures, but he has hard tests. Pay attention to bolded and underlined words on slides. BIO 112 is not easy lots of concepts are covered. 1st test try to max bc next 2 tests r harder. I recommend going to SI daily, they have great practice problems and help you connect the concepts.
I had Dr. Tag for BIO 111 and 112 and would NEVER recommend anyone to take him. Lectures were fine but got worse for 112 because the content, he just reads off the slides. Test are 10x harder than any other prof. If you want a good grade TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
He was a great prof and very knowledgeable. However his exams were SO much harder than the other profs. I wouldn't take for an easy A. He did give out extra credit which helps.
Dr. Tag is a very understanding person when it comes to certain life situations. When it comes to actually learning biology you're on your own. His exams are so much harder than any of the practice exams SI will give you. When I tell y'all that y'all need to memorize EVERYTHING on the slides & every small detail he says. Honestly take another prof
Lectures are just him reading slides with zero engagement. Tests are insanely hard and on the most random most specific topics in the slides. Doesn't explain concepts well at all. If you want an easy A or an actual learning experience, do not take this class. One of the worst profs I've had.
Exams are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I often found it hard to truly get a learning experience out of the lectures because he just read off the slides. There was also so much content covered in only a short amount of time and I do not recall a time where I did not feel crazy overwhelmed. Take a different professor.
Dr. Tag is an overall good lecturer. A lot of the other reviews say his test are specific and difficult in 112 and I agree. However, it is possible to get an A if you put in the time to memorize everything on the slides. By doing this, I was able to make an A on the last 2 lecture exams and the final. Labs were easy and more chill than 111.
for your well-being, highly recommend taking a diff prof! his exams were harder than others and asked very specific questions about things that were maybe mentioned once. i would study for over a week leading up to the exam and still do poorly. memorize literally EVERYTHING. final was v hard with qs that were actually crazy pulls. praying for curve
he is actually really good ur just taking a difficult class idk what u expect
woah the difficult class had difficult exams like what
Taken Spring 2025. Professor Tag is one of the SMARTEST professors I've had so far. He explained everything in slides very efficiently, and would answer any questions you had for him. This class is a weed-out class, so do remember that it is DIFFICULT! You do have to study for each exam, especially exam 2. If I faltered, I could not blame Dr. Tag.
I went through rate my professor after getting Tags class all I saw was how bad his exams are. Realistically if you study and attend at least one SI exam review session you will be fine. He has good lectures and likes to crack jokes. Quite a few don't hit but it still keeps me engaged. I would not skip a lot of material is covered each lecture.
overall tag is a very knowledgeable professor, I would be lying if I said he was not. the actual material in biol111 is not necessarily hard but his tests are WAY harder than other profs. he will test over things BARELY talked about and not test over things always talked about. take another prof if u want an easier A
Dr. Tag is fun and engaging, but his lectures move too quickly to absorb the material fully. His exams are EXTREMELY difficult (like really difficult and specific; you have to know the slides and textbook inside and out to get a B or low A). He's knowledgeable and nice, but if you want an easier A, choose another professor.
Great person and really good professor. He is passionate and knows a lot about this topic. He will respond to emails promptly. He gives a little weekly homework that is helpful and always follows the current topic we're learning. He gives bonus points for iClicker in class, so I recommend attending lectures. Labs are not bad and the TAs are chill.
If you want a good grade, do NOT take. I studied the hardest I ever have in my life and took AP bio and still only got a 70-80 on every single exam. The exam answers are always a single sentence out of close to 400 slides per unit. Hes a good lecturer but doesn't prepare you well.Go to every single class (esp before a break) for extra credit
Bio 111 isn't a difficult class, but unless you took AP bio or are willing to put in the work, then I wouldn't take him. TAs don't grade too harshly for lab and have a help desk available for questions. Don't rely only on his lectures because his exams are extremely hard. Read the textbook in depth! It's difficult but not impossible to get an A!
Rated two to emphasize TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! The content itself isn't hard but the tests actually had some crazy pulls. Tests are way harder than the homework, practice tests, and SI sessions combined and way too specific. I recommend going straight to the textbook instead of the slides. Knowledgeable prof but save yourself the sleep.
dr. tag makes it so hard to hate him because of how funny and caring he is for his students. he's a great person and professor, but i would not take him again because of how difficult his exams were. u had to know every tiny detail in the corner of each slide. managed to end up with a 95 but studied 2 weeks in advance for each exam
Managed to get an A without taking Biology AP or DC. I don't think you need to know every detail, but you need to understand concepts thoroughly. Definitely use the “be able tos” and make sure to watch videos on the subject if unclear. I only studied 4-7 hours for a test. Final is very doable and fair.
He was solid. The tests were tough.
