He is a good professor. Sit in the front he speaks very softly. His tests are very hard!
His tests are hard but if you study and know the material you should do well. On the other hand his labs and other coursework is easy. Study his notes and pay attention to small tables and charts in the book.
Very demanding professor! He is used to teaching graduate students and while he says he knows the difference between UGS and GS, it doesn't show. Exams are all about critical thinking. For the exams, study his chapter notes that are on his website. Plan to work hard in this class. He is a better teacher in the lab than in the classroom.
Toughest class I've had so far. He does do curves which helps if your a some-what good student. I suggest reading his notes and power points before each class. The book helped out towards the end. Good Luck to all.
If you are a whiz at chem/science then maybe you will get a C in his class!! He tries to be funny but lets face it, his tests are way out there, all critical thinking, not like you can just memerize definitions and be okay...he does make himself available to students via office hours, but either way for his class you need to be VERY focused.
Dr. Thompson was a good teacher and made himself available to students that were having problems, but to pass this class, you must stay focused and be disciplined or you will fall behind. Hard course, but very possible to do well.
He was a good teacher. Mostly read from slides. It was a hard class...but if you read the textbook and UNDERSTAND what you are reading, you should do fine. His tests are hard...they make sure you understand what you are doing, but hey...you're in college and in order to be what you want...you gotta understand and not just memerize things!!!
I am almost embarrassed to admit I didn't study that much but I have a solid A in his class. The key is to study his lecture notes online. Those are where he gets his test questions from. If you know his notes you'll do fine in his class.
I took microbiology with Dr. Thompson. I got an 89 B+ in his class. I lost a WHOLE point b/c I missed 2 days of class. He takes off .5 point for every unexcussed abscence! however, you must study EVERYTHING! I used mostly his notes to make study cards from. I like how organized he is. I really enjoyed lab.
His class is the hardest class I have taken so far. I have stayed up studying for test and the highest test I had so far is a 76 and thats with a 6 point curve...thank god he does curve...He is knid of nerdy when it comes to lectures but I think its kind of cute when he talks about his cat. Labs are kind of good though.I love his labs.
If you take your time ask him questions about tests,case studies,lab,homeworks,etc. after class/during his office hour, he will give you most/all of the answers.Be really careful with his final exam, it's hard.Got A in the class,will suggest read& understand every page of the textbook. His notes& power points are not enough.Good luck to everyone.
This class was hard, but you do actually learn things about microbiology. The tests were hard too, but if you study a lot for them you'll get Bs. Don't just study whats on a review study other things too(online notes he provides-study those!). The labs are easy. Don't be absent, it all adds up and comes off a final grade.Really nice teacher though.
I took this class over Summer A and it was very stressful to say the least. Ended up with an A use his online notes tests come strait from book and do not rely on his reviews they are very broad and rarely cover all the test. No extra credit, & max. of 6 pt. curves on tests, but that happened 1 or 2 times. prob. should take class alone over summer
I don't understand everybody's complaints. I passed his class with a B and hardly had any problems. You must do the homework and case studies, the test aren't that bad (I only used his powerpoints to study) The labs are easy. I never read the text except for the take home quizes. This class is not hard at all.
His is very smart, but just talks and reads from the power point.
I took his Hybrid class during the spring semester. Which is not bad. He gives you the notes for each chapter online. Then has a good review for the test/lab and tells you your main points of study should be. All lectures were online. Just hit play and your set. You get credit for the lectures (he knows when you're on Angel) and for attendance to l
lectures are interesting, labs are easy, but his tests are HARD. show up for every lab/lecture to receive all the xtra pts needed for attendance. micro is a hard subject to teach but dr. thompson did a great job trying to teach it to us. he's also a HOTTIE :-P
Dr. Thompson is a wonderful teacher, his tests come straight from the power points and labs are a breeze..or at least for me they were. Flash cards def. help for retaining info and be sure to show up for each class b/c he does grade attendance.
Awesome class. Dr. Thompson is great. Very thorough lectures, has all of his lecture notes available to print off his website. Easy A for me.If you find this class hard, you must not be accustomed to college level work, and maybe health care is not for you.
Good sense of humor - occasional jokes to keep things interesting. Tests are hard in the sense that you have to study to earn your grade, but easy enough that I earned an A. Final is cumulative but 2/3 comes from the last chapters covered in class. Lab is interesting & is "easy points" compensating for the harder tests.
I found his class to be very time consuming, but I also took the class summer A. Im glad I did however, b/c his class requires a lot of studying. I hardly touched the textbook and definitely didn't use the lab manual. Save your money. His notes online are extremely helpful and the tests are pretty much entirely from them. Lecrtures are boring. Speaks in a monotone. No enthusiasm about teaching. Reads from the powerpoint. Class average on tests is a 60%. He is not helpful. Overall the majority of students in my class absolutely do not like him as a teacher. You can spend 15 hours studying for a test and the questions are written as riddles for you to decifer.
I had Dr. Thompson for A&P 1 and Microbiology. He's a great teacher and very helpful. His class is definitely difficult, but like he has stated many times, you have to earn your grade. Make sure you study his notes, since that's where the majority of the test questions seem to come from. He's very nice and really wants the best for his students. :)

Dr Thompson is very straight forward. He puts his notes and his lecture power points online, which were a tremendous help because he speaks so softly making him difficult to hear.
I only read one chapter halfway through, and never used the textbook again. All of his tests come from his notes.. Its all memorization basically. not gunna lie, it was a really hard class and you gotta work your butt off. It was hard but with hard work I got an A. Not the easiest of the A & P teachers.
Lab portion is very easy however the lecture part is basically memorization. Alot of reading as most of your tests are 3 or more chapters at a time and then the test is only 50 questions. If you arent a good test taker or a good memorizer I would not suggest this class. I wish he would give more work as to reinforce what we are reading.
Really good professor. Study his Notes over and over! The notes are the key to doing well on the tests. Interactive tutorials are helpful as well.
Do not take the Hybrid class. Lectures are from 3 years ago, does not give test questions back so you can study them, and the only way to pass is memorize all the notes he posts in the portal. Labs are very easy. The only reason I passed the final was because he did a surprise review session the class before.
Science classes could be really hard if you don't spend a lot studying it the PROPER WAY. Also, if you think you could pass from his class just by attending the lecture class, you're not going to get an A because you have to invest studying the material also. PREPARATION and CONSISTENCY is the key to pass this class. Try to read early, it HELPS.
The class is hard whoever the professor is and it would really test your studying discipline. His a great teacher and a great guy. He gives curves (good thing). If you have question, he answers it. Just study. That's pretty much it. The test could be really hard at times so you have to make your lab practical count, it's easy just study.
I am taking Dr. Thompsons Micro and A&P 1 class at the same time. They are not easy classes especially the Micro. All I can say is take very good notes, do all of the homework assignments and study the notes and review handouts for the test.
Dr. Thompson is amazing. I have taken him for A&P 1 and Micro and he is wonderful. The best teacher I have ever taken at CF. His class is difficult and requires studying, but i learned so much from him. Follow his reviews to the tee, it will save your life and limit the studying time. Definitely recommend!!! He's AWESOME!!!
Microbiology isn't a particularly easy class, but Dr. Thompson understands that and helps where he can. Tests are curved and plenty of extra credit is given. His lectures are helpful, but sometimes not particularly helpful for the tests. Test questions can be a bit tricky and study guides are vague, but as I said, he curves test grades.
Very good professor, I had him for both A+P 1 and Microbiology and I would definitely take him again. The classes are both pretty hard, but it's because of the content, not the instruction. He even gives study guides and curves some of the tests. Highly recommend!
Tough but good. That's all you can hope for with classes like A&P and Micro. If you're taking these classes you probably understand you have to study anyway so just take Thompson.
Tough class in general. Best professor for the course. Pay attention to everything he gives you. Lecture, notes, powerpoint, and book are all important.
Took him for A&P 1 hybrid class and it was super hard !!! it seriously feels like im taking A&P2 ! he's to specific with his lectures , I didn't take him for lab thank god!! his notes barely reflect the tests and the whole class is based on test grade 60% of you overall grade his lectures were so monotone I could barley focus
I just did not know what i was studying for on test. Lectures were really long and talked real fast. Study guides were somewhat useful.
I had him for the hybrid lecture which made it really tough to learn. I had him summer B and we had class once a week which is when we took our exams, so we did not get much lecture time to learn from him. However, his study reviews really do help if you actually look up the answers instead of just memorizing what he put on them. p
Please dont take this Professor. Im only halfway through the semester and Im at the point where Im praying for a C. The material is fairly simple if youve taken anatomy & physiology I already, but his tests are where its impossible. Half of the test consists of things Ive never even heard of before! Its as if he wants his students to fail.
Took his class as a hybrid for BSC2085 and it was the most difficult class I have taken. All "study guides" never at all relate to the tests. Class average was consistently below 60 and only gave students at most of a 7 point curve. Also, very monotone person so hard to follow along. Not an enjoyable class at all.
Go to ALL the lectures and make sure you understand the material don't just memorize terms and definitions. Test questions can be tricky and of a critical thinking nature. Do all the extra credit it will make a huge difference in your final grade. Not an easy class due to the subject of study, but critical to understand especially for health care
Took Thompson for Micro Lab for Summer B. Ended with a 96%. Go to all labs and you will be fine. 8 lab reports, 4 quizzes, 1 lab practical, 1 final. I BARELY studied out of class. Labs prepare you if you read his manual and retain info. He does not get involved too much. Just know morphology, microbe types, and READ his manual. Everything is there.
Professor Thompson made the class very difficult. I've taken way easier A&P classes and this one just wasn't worth the stress. His test reviews are useless and his tests are very difficult. But to look on the good side, he is reasonable. I missed an assignment the night before a surgery and he opened it back up for me... but then I failed his exam.

Dr. Thompson's reputation speaks for itself, he is a tough professor and his course demands studying, disipline, and more studying. I was really nervous to take his course but I am really glad I did. By far the hardest class I have ever had, but I got an A and I learned a lot. If you just want to pass and not learn the material, take someone else.

Professor Thompson is terrible, he is boring, and you really learn nothing in the class. All of his tests are basically trick questions and do nothing to evaluate your knowledge. Its a pretty sad and lame class dont waste your time or money.
Save your time and money this professor really is awful. He seems to pretty much phone it in, and is boring beyond belief. Strictly reads off PowerPoints, that have mistakes in them and you have to learn incorrect material because that is how it will be on the tests. Thompson would need some serious improvement just to get to mediocre. Stay away!
This is the worse class I have ever taken , he is the the meyerson of the anatomy department. He does a lot of talking but of complete nonsense that has nothing to do with his tests/practicals. Its the biggest waste of your time. I recommend anyone else but honestly anyone.
Professor Thompson is not a very good professor he actually went on how evolution is a fact like the theory of gravity and theory means fact. Hes not overly bright. And he trys to tie climate change to things that have no relevance to each other. Hes more a pseudoscience professor if you were in to Bigfoot he would be your guy.

Profess Tompson is not very good. You have to pay extra to do the homework for extra credit or you wont get a good grade, that seems like a scam. Very boring hard to follow. Ive never had a science professor claim a theory was actually a fact. He claimed evolution and theory of gravity were both Proven. His test had nothing to do with material covered in lecture. I did not like the fact that you had to pay to do the online homework for extra credit just to get a good grade. Not good!
Dr. Thompson is the type of friend to give you advice but add the I dont know at the end so technically its not his fault that he ruined your life. After everything that he supposedly teaches he adds in Im oversimplifiying everything, its not exact. Makes you wonder whats the point of him showing up to class

This is the online class to take if you are a self-motivated learner and would like to learn the material well enough to pass state licensing exams. Dr. Thompson's class is well laid out. You know from day 1 what are his expectations. He does provide extra credit which is helpful, but it is using the Pearson site which is not free.
Professor Thompson seems to not know whats going on hell drone on with long lectures that have nothing to do with anything thats put on the tests. A very poorly conceived course. There is not one aspect of this course that cannot be improved. Good professors take parts of the quotes that are the most important emphasize it and test you on it. This is not a good course or professor somehow he thinks trick questions about things that he never talked about makes him a tough professor. Idiot

Wow what an amazing class. Not! The longest most boring thing youll ever do. This course is like watching paint dry and you get just about as much information from both. Professor Thompson shouldve retired 20 years ago. He will mumble on forever reading power points that have nothing to do with the actual tests. failure in action.

Just a terrible course with a terrible professor. Find another course to take or youll regret it. Poorly put together poorly executed, you have to teach yourself. Nothing gone over and lecture is on the tests just a waste of time.
This course is a complete waste of money and time. This guy has no idea what hes doing hes terrible. Professor Thompson does nothing more than read off The overhead projector its obvious he has no idea what the cost is about. Extremely lecture heavy. 5 50 question exams. He offers limited extra credit. If youre going for nursing, this is the ultimate weed out course. To earn my A Ive had to take my own notes off the chapters, do lecture notes in class, read PowerPoint, watch YouTube - EVERYDAY. If youre just an average student, you wont pass this course - beware.
Unlike lecture, Professor Thompson is far better in the Lab setting - he appears more comfortable and is more approachable. He makes his own lab book (only $16!) - lab consists of 4 10 question quizzes, 8 labs, 1 practical, and 1 final. Limited point total (only 260) small margin for error as practical and exam are worth 100 pts total.

He is a very boring professor, he asks trick questions on the tests, he brags about people getting low grades on his tests, he makes study guides that have nothing to do with whats on the tests, theres little to no extra credit in this class, and he doesnt round up grades at the end of the semester

All I can say about Professor Thompson is lazy, save yourself time energy and aggravation and take a different class.
I took Professor Thompson's summer course of Micro and it was easily the hardest class that I have ever taken. Does NOT give out extra credit, claimed that he did and at the end of course, never gave it out. Tests were timed 1 minute per question. Lectures were unrelated to the material. I was unemployed during Thompson's class and still got a B.
Take his class and you will wish you dead several times throughout the semester. His lectures are boring, his voice is monotone, his tests are stupid hard for no reason, the power points are not even close to what is on the test. I had him for a summer semester online and he shows the class averages on Canvas. Most of the class did not pass. warned
his class was ok. I like the fact that Dr. Thompson is fair. I took his class during Covid-19 so both the class and the lab was online. On a quiz we had to name the bones of the cranium and for a particular section it was very difficult to label without being shown in person. He understood this and graded the quiz accordingly with a curve.
I took his online lecture class and while is was a difficult class he is very organized and maps the entire semester out for you. As long as you keep up on the reading and video lectures the rest of the class will make sense. He is a very fair grader and is responsive when asking questions or for help. I would recommend.
His tests are extremely hard. If you must take this class, I recommend a light load, it is very time consuming. His study guides and lectures barely cover anything he asks. The test are timed and questions and very tricky. I was on youtube a lot for better understanding. Also do the extra credit even tho it cost extra, it will help in the end.
I would like to see this professor care more about teaching the students about the material rather then grade acomputer generated test. Seems he doesn't want students to be lazy with his course, but yet his leading example is just that, unless you ask for help you will fail, unless you know the material at his level the tests are impossible to pass
He is not the worst teacher I've ever had, but not the best either. His test sometimes have questions that were not in the book, lectures, or any other material he provides. What really saved me in this class was the extra credit and the reviews. I highly recommend you do that. Overall, I would take him again, but proceed with caution.
The stuff he graded us on was either a hard task to do or it did nothing to your grade (moved it only 0.5 points). There are only 2 tests so if you fail one, you're pretty much out of luck.
Avoid taking this teacher, he only gives tests and his test hardly follows the notes he gives you. His test weight is 65%, get a low score on one it is extremely hard to raise your grade back up. His grading on case studies is awful. Refuses to give you anything better than an 8 out of 10 no matter how much info you put in it. Overall boring
Microbiology is a hard course. It covers a lot of material. We are not required to buy a textbook, we learn out of openstax, which is a free online book. He shortens the long chapters into much smaller and easy-to-understand PowerPoints for each lecture. We are provided with a study guide for every test and there's not much homework. extra credit
Very straightforward, very clear on dates, easy tests
I took the fast-paste summer class so obviously everything was a lot harder. I definitely recommend printing out the summaries of the chapters he makes before each lecture so you can follow along. He flies through the slide presentation so it is impossible to retain and write everything that he is saying. Not a lot of assignments.
Fast Paste Lab Summer A. Labs were interesting. Quizzes are easy. Practicals aren't too hard just study the Lab manual. He doesn't like paragraph answers just short and to the point on the lab questions. Always bring gloves you don't need a lab coat or goggles.
Thompson is a nice man. This course was a breeze, except for the 2 lab practical's (one mid-semester, one final) being worth 50% of your grade. I did extremely well on all 4 quizzes and all 8 labs/data, but still fell short of an A due to exam grades being lower. I enjoyed Micro, he was good at diagrams lol
He has a manual with each lab explained in detail. His canvas has most of the quiz answers. In lab he is very helpful, he walks around answers questions, helps with microscopes etc... There are 4 quizzes, a practical, and a final. If you do bad on the practical it will tank your grade because the reports aren't worth many points.
Gives you everything you need for his tests. Simple power points to follow along in the book with. No surprises on his tests and covers each chapter thoroughly. Took for RN program pre-requisite. -nando

Professor Thompson's lab is completely different from lecture. It's all hands on experiments so it's a lot of fun. He'll give you a tiny lab manual he wrote, outlines, power points, and a homework sheet for each module. That is exactly what you're tested on. My advice is to study those homework questions because they are legit the lab practicals.
This class was rough. I earned an A but struggled all semester. The course is mostly self-taught; he reads directly from slides, doesn't explain much, and often doesn't use the full class period. He speaks very quiet and isnt responsive to questions. Grades are based entirely on tests and quizzes. Avoid if possible.
