very hard. thank god i dropped it. take the1041
dropped it like the other students
tomasello is a very difficult teacher, you have to study to pass, and go to the workshops. He doesnt teach what's on the test, the format can be hard with the time restraint hegives. he give a review shett, do that and you'll be fine.
My favorite class this semester! Not as hard as ppl say he is. Very interesting class. All you gotta do is study for the exams which are not that hard also. Get him if you want something challenging & don't wanna fall asleep in class.
HE GIVES THE QUIZZES BEFOREHAND!!! He answers all 3 essay questions in his lectures. The only "challenging" part is training your ear for the listening and memorizing definitions. He is so helpful, responds to emails in like 2 seconds. Just take
Do not expect to pass without studying. Very good Professor who helps you out. Quizzes aren't that difficult - you get them before hand and all you have to do is study.
Nice and funny guy. There are 5 quizes, you have to memorize an avg of 50 deffinitions for each one, 3 essay and do the listening part. The workshops help you practice the listening and ans any questions you have.
very hard professor that gives complicated tests which are 25 min long, for which you have to memorize about 40-5o words, learn 3 essays and be prepared for the listening section
His class is harder than calculus. Drop it as soon as you can
hmm not a bad teacher - first few weeks gives the vibe that he's a real jerk but after almost half the class has dropped hes pretty kewl... just study ... u wont get newhere if u dont memorize ur suff!
I'm not sure why 50% of the class dropped because he is a good teacher. He is a jerk, but in a very funny way if you like that sense of humor. 5 quizzes that you get before hand, easy
Hard class. Every quiz counts so you better work hard from the begining.
you have to work hard in his class. and i guess you need to get to know the TA better if you want a good grade (coz TAs are the graders of the quizes..). 5 quizes to determine ur final grade. if you're lazy person, dont take him.
Awesome teacher but kinda hard class. expected it to be easy but not really. get to know the TA's. they can give you extra points. and you have to come to class everyday. 5 quizzes determine grade. get them beforehand but still hard.
If youre the lazy don't take him..a lot of memorization needs to be done..tests aren't too difficult if you studied...only prob. is that 25 min. isn't enough to finish the test sometimes.
You just need to read the book & you're on the right track. The course itself should be boring but this guy is so intelligent & makes it interesting. VERY FUNNY. He's one of the coolest professors around. It's like he's doing stand-up; nice fellow too.
you simply have to study to do well. But as long as u prepare the essays and study the vocabs. You are guaranteed to do well on the tests. Go to 10+ workshops to get extra pts. THEY HELP A LOT !!!
Hes a cool guy, but his class his really tough. You have to really study and know your material to do well.
i may not be getting the best grade ever in this class, however, this guy really isn't that bad. he's just trying to help students get into better studying habits. study the vocab and write out the essays, you'll be fine. remember to attend wkshops too
His class is a little tough. The people that complain about him are those that are super lazy and are looking for an easy A. Well it's not easy, but most of the time it is interesting and he is funny. Excellent review sheets. Workshops pretty helpful.
warning! dont take him
He's a hard professor. But the class ROCKS! He's interesting, funny and intelligent. I got an A in the class with moderate studying. You have to prepare all the vocabulary and essays way before the test. Go to many workshops and suck up to the TA
horrible professsor, the WORST at Baruch! Impossible to get a decent grade...
Poor Professor
This is the worse class ever, unless youre into the "music of dead white men", which probably means youre rich and white too. If you dont fit that description, then steer clear of this horrible course.
his tests are mad hard, at the end of the semster, almost half of the class drop out
He's a great guy, very funny and sarcastic. The class, however, requires a lot of stuying and not very much of listning to him. If you go to five extra workshops, he will give you the five points for participation.
MEAN teacher and very nasty to the students. he belittled so many people and then out of 500 people in the beginning he had about 150 left (including myslef) in the end
very horrible guy. His introductory class seems to be the most advance music class. He doesnot know how to teach. very horrible.
Don't take him..as you might know only the nerds gave him a good rating..if you have no life then take him cause all you going to do is do all the work at home..you dont learn in his class at all plus his tests are hard!
Take another music teacher if you can. If you do happen to have the unfortunate fate of taking this guy, make sure you take advantage of all the online stuff he posts, workshops, and lectures, your gonna need all of it.
After the first two classes I had a nervous breakdown and dropped it. I am still recovering.
Please I would recommend everyone to not take this professor, he is very horrible.
Although this professor is hard, if you do all the work he tells you to do you can get a fair grade. People who dont study obviously will not like the class. He is funny and great person.
Very hard prof. Gives u the tests in advance, but have to complete it within 30 minutes. they are very hard, have 2 parts 10 words, short answer by listening to music and describing who wrote it and when, and the 3rd part is an essay. VEry hard class.
this prof was one of the few who made me learn the stuff, not cuz it was easy but cuz u had to study to pass the course; if u want an easy prof forget about him, but if u wanna learn, then take him...
I consider him an average professor. He gives you the test in advance but that doesn't make it easy. I got a A- in the class. The listening part of his tests are the hardest part. If you're good at memorizing take him.
if you see this name run!!!! you think it's going to be easy because he gives you the tests before hand, but you have to look up everything yourself and then memorize everything like a month before the test. he thinks he is the**** cuz hes tenure, please
He was a funny teacher. I'm sorry a lot of kids had an unreasonable problem with him.
he is awful. the reason he has some good ratings is because he rates himself. disgrace! thinks it is a joke to fail someone
I took his class during the summer and it was a good class. If I remember correctly, we had 20 minutes to take th quiz. He picks 10 vocabs out of a list of 30 or so ands it not that bad.
I liked him, hes one of the better known profs in the music dept. didn't do too well in the class, but unlike most of you will admit, i'll admit it was MY FAULT. Makes you all study though, especially in the summer. but would recommend him as a prof.
This is the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. The only people who gave him high ratings are the nerds who are really into music. This guy loves to fail people. STAY AWAY!!!
His tests are based on the book. And he doesn't teach by the book. He is all over the place with his lessons.
I got an A- but I hated him. His tests are easy- vocab, short answer, essay. But the guy's a (bleep). He even tells you that you'll hate him because he's inflexible with grades and not accessible after class.
hes so funny i could cry. just loved the class, got an A of course
Still thinking of a comment...give me several months....
I bet he would fail Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Vivaldi, Bach, Berlioz, Handel, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky because he thinks that he knows everything so much better...
just an awefully negative person to listen to. unbearable.
If you're in for the grade then don't take him. But he is funny and his classes are interesting- you'll remember things infrom his class more than other classes. HEck just take him, it'll be fun ride. But you gotta do the work- hello it's college kids~
Funny guy...easy tests, just have to spend a little time remembering the vocabularies. Easy A in the class
Kick this guy out of the school please
awful class. as simple as that.
doesn't care about you outside of class. as if i got to negotiate a deal w/ him just to get him to help me. got a question ? -> ask TA or leave it up on blackb and he'll answer whenever he wants, not worth my tuition....
found the workshops very helpful and the discussion boards. bottom line if u study u'll do fine. plus theres a big curve so thats always good. only 5 quizzes no tests no final no midterms no papers
wonderful professor. Class-very enjoyable, he'ss funny =). once i went in depressed,by the end i was smiling. course is not so bad. He gives you exactly what to study and dates for the tests. he's great with blackboard. if you don't know something, all you do is ask. He puts in a lot of time. cool.
5 quizzes no mid no final, he gives ALL QUIZZES to you so u can study early. there is a love/hate opinion on this board b/c there is a lot to study. if u study thoroughly, easy A, if u dont, dont xpect to pass. no tricks in the bag, just study. cant bs it,cant cheat. lots of help (weekly workshops,
only cares about his tenor
Professor Tomasello is a great professor. Incredibly smart and has an awesome sense of humor. Will answer all questions on Blackboard. No reason why anyone should get less than an A, if done the work given. Attend workshops religiously. They help tremendously!
Horrible, he wants all his students to be scared of him or something, all he gets is students that hate him. When I was in his class there were like 200 students and in like 2 weeks there were only like 30 left bc everyone dropped bc of how horrible and stank he is.
Tomasello is an awesome teacher. At the begining of the semester he appears to be hard but really is very easy. He gives 5 quizzes and posts them, you have EVERYTHING you need to study at the beg......just study and your fine. lectures are good. workshops are key. Go For HIM! very interesting and
Tomasello is HOT!!Very funny and smart, knows his stuff.Videos, virtual classrooms, workshops=fun and interesting&gives you quizzes in advance. HOWEVER,never shaved, obsessed wit Jacko&the prez, hates when people talk while playing music. Take him for laughs, not for easy A,lots of vocab, but not too bad
First of all this class is not an easy A if thats what your thinking. He gives the tests in advance which is great if you study but you have to memorize a lot of definitions. You also must attend workshops and more importantly class if you want to pass. Just remember to study for those quizzes!
professor tomasello is one of the rudest and most arrogant men i have ever encountered in my life. He is not helpful and is just overally rude and diesrespectful. i hated him and would never take him ever again.
You might think he is easy but that is deciving. You have to be a musician to get a good grade in class but if you do ok, you'll prob get a B. Dont take him if you want a good grade
He's not that hard at all. His test are posted on the blackboard, there's a total of 5 exams. Trust me if you good memorization you will do fine. *****Mostly importantly attend workshops, that will really help you on the exam.
5 quizzes. They are easy if you study 2 days before each one and attend 2 workshops for each quiz. The workshops are where you learn mostly everything. Easy class if you try hard enough.
andrew is my man. he is VERY helpful and cares about his students. just look at the blackboard and discussion board and you'll see how much time and effort he puts into this course. the class is no joke but his devotion makes up for it. i still don't know whom tomasello likes better, jacko or george
He SUCKS big time !!! It seems as though he wants to get back at his students because they have a life and he doesn't. He's abusing his power.
Tomesello is probably the funniest professor ive ever had.. Hes awesome!.. his tests are hard but he does give you the questions way in advance. He extemely intellegent but a horrible piano player lol
His class is entertaining; he makes a lot of jokes and makes a fool of himself while we laugh. He does give us the vocab and questions on the quiz but i think its pretty hard. Sometimes he has 50 vocab words and only gives 10 on the quiz. The essay is prechosen and the listening part is alot of BS
He's awesome! He'd funny, has great stories and actually teaches. Eveything has a stable structure and if you just do what you have to do, put in a bit of effort, you'll get an easy A. He doesn't do that surprise crap. He says what he wants. He rocks!
doesnt teach anything thats in the quizes. Waaay too much tme demanded for ONE (highly irrelevant)class.
he is kind of interesting in class, but not very helpful outside. the class is not very hard to pass, but the quiz needs you to write a whole essay and 10 definitions and 1 listening ex (describe music). just go to the workshops and i think its easy to pass
This class was easy only if you study. There are a lot of words but if you just memorize all of them, go to the workshops, and write up all the essays in advance, you'll get an A. Tomasello is prepared and his class and really enjoys what he does.
BEST MUSIC TEACHER IN THE WORLD! TOMASELLO ROCKS!!!!!!! no seriously, he is an amazing professor and really enjoys what he does. There aren't enough profs. like him, take advantage, he's truly awesome!
You might be intimidated by the quizzes at first, but it is not as hard as u think it is. Workshops improve your grade on the quizzes a lot. You actually learn a lot from this class.
Got an A.....i never paid attention in his class, just went to workshop and read the book b4 the quizzes, he gives you the the questions on the quizzes in advance, so it's pretty easy if you try, but this class is quite time consuming compared to the others
He is a nice person, but there's a lot to memorize. The class is not hard. All you have to do is study and go to the worshops which help a lot. It's all up to you.
too demanding, last quiz was messed up... too much info too study thinks cool just cause hr plays a lil tupac
he takes his class way too seriously its just music. so much 2 memorize. dunt take him save yourself. workshops r helpful but so boring
yup, tomasello is a little kid himself. playing a song with vulgar words the last day probably makes him think he'll get some positive attention. too bad he's too serious about the course.
5 quiz,40 or so vocab, 3 essay and a listening part. he will choose like 10 vocab and one essay from it.all u got to do is go to workshop for the essay, memorize all the vocab bs in the listening part.. then you'll be doin' great.sleep or do whatever in lec. if u dun mind to memorize, this is GREAT
Dude is very helpful and very clear. Though his lectures are long and sometimes boring, he tries to make music fun. The class is an easy A if you apply yourself. Just look over notes, attend workshops and listen to some music. He gives you everything you need to know right there.
Tomasello is a very funny guy. You just have to study all the definitions and essays. It is a bit much but... if you take the time to memorize it... you will get an A!!!
he's easy, just memorizing..
WORST Prof. in Baruch!!!!!!!!!!!!!if u want F=> take him
if u memorize his tests its an easy A but its too much to memorize.
The guy tells you on day 1 that you'll hate him and you will. But it's a very easy class and all memorizing.
He is a funny guy and tries tomake the best out of listening to classical music. His quizzes are not that hard if you study them with time since you know whats going to be on it. One good thing is that you can totally screw up on one quiz and still do go in the class if you pass the other ones.
Go to the workshops, study the vocab and essays--you'll pass with an A. He talks a lot in his lectures and makes some jokes...but if you don't study, you'll fail and he'll tell you that to your face.
pretty easy. he tries his best...all you have to do is memorize the vocab, listen to some of the music...and know the info for the essays. u can sleep during class but stay awake when listening to music in class to know for the quizzes. and don't talk while listening to music in class(makes him mad)
Tomasello's hot! 1st person 2 say dat, huh? He whips Dan&Chris, flexed, obsessed with Michael Jackson, kinda funny, especially when a student altered his name to "Tumasaso"/"Tockmasoso" last semester, aint too hard, offered videos, workshops, a BOGUS board :-), Virtual classrooms, etc. Got my A...
Pretty easy class!!! Just study the vocabulary and the essays and you will do fine. Go to workshop daily to get the answer for the quizes. All you have to do is ask questions if you are not sure.
This guy is the worse teacher you can get for music. It makes you hate Mozart and everyone once you take this class with this guy. His quizzes/tests are hard.Gives you 60 words to memorize and the definition has to be exactly the way he writes it or no credit. You'd be lucky to get a B
here's the deal with him. Dont try to **** him. If you respect him you'll get respect back. Do the work, and be a good student and he'll do anything he can to help you. **** him, and he'll make your life hell... fair enough I think.
I was overwhelmed in the beginning. Hes actually not as hard as he appears to be. Go to the workshops, memorize the definitions, listen to the music, prewrite your essay and you'll do fine.
Horrible, doesnt know how to teach music because he hates it himself and therefore, makes everyone else pay for it.after fist 1 exam half of the class drops out,2nd exam only 15% of students left. exams are all MEMORIZING and if u dont put a period at the end of sentence u get no points. DO NOT TAKE
He is tough, I have to admit that. Lot of reading and quizes. Open book for Quiz b/c it's way toooo much reading. So if you are familier with the material, open book won't help. 25 page term paper way too hard. Nevertheless, he curves really well. Regardless of how bad you do, you may still pass the couse with a decent grade.
Don't know how to teach. Hard to take notes from him. He only give few works on the board. His class is Super Hard. the review looks simple, but the garde he give to you is terrible. Every test you have about 50 new vocaberlary out 10-5. a listening part is not easy as you think. And about 15min to write a complete essay. The test is based on 30min
This is one of the worst professors I had. This was my hardest class in Baruch. First of all, the guy doesn't know how to teach and considers all his students as if music majors. He gives tests that consist of an essay, 10 definitions and a hearing part WITH time limit of 25 minutes. Its torture. Avoid at all costs.
VERYHARD.WANNA GET F TAKE HIM. 2 MUCH FOR THE TEST.15MIN FOR THE COMPLETE EASSY. WHOLE TESTE 30MIN. NEED TO MEMORIZE 40-70 WORDS IDENTIFY WITH FULL SENTENCE(one is like a paragraph long). Easy review paper, same for the test, but just har to memorize all the things..and huge curve ...but still very hard....I dorped
He is a nice and funny guy but his tests are hard...so much to memorize...however if u do what you have to do there is no reason you shouldnt do well..i got an A but i did have to study...alot!
He seems fun and nice but totally opposit. He says you are all from High school and you are all the cheaters. When you complain, he can listen to you, never takes it. Everyone tries to finish the class, but half drop long before semester ends. Is he a good professor? He should teach at exclusive music school if he is good as he pretended.
The point is this: we all feel he is not at all a good teacher. He doesn't not respect students. Making you an F is probably is goal of his teaching. Otherwise he should be belonging to Baruch for there are many music shools needed some like him. Too bad.
there are a total of 5 quizzes and yes! they are hard. When u have him in the fall there are 200+ students so most of his TA's grade the quizzes and they are picky. I suggest to take him in the summer there are less students and more teacher student interaction availalbe. p.s.: don't go 4 married older men!
crazy man who thinks were all music majors and know his stuff by heart
He is crazy but in a funny way. Hard work but a good guy
This class is not the easiest class in the world. It is true that you have to memorize a lot, but if you truly study hard you will do fine. If you expect an easy A, this is not the class to take.
If one professor motivates you and get you crazy on what he is teaching, that is good professor. Mr. Tomacello is not that one. He has to put you suffered and tortured to show his value and existance. Question is this: if he is really a good one, he is not for Baruch. It is a business school after all! Follow him to the dead end.
class is very boring, he is such a jerk when it comes to marking quizzes. If u have him u will destroy ur gpa!
the class is not hard. Music is actually easy. but, this teacher makes it look hard with his rediculous quizzes. on the quiz, he ask u to define 10 of the 60 words, respond to a listening piece of music, and write an essay on one of the three topics he hands out. whats worst is that, u have 20 minutes to do the whole quiz!
this class feels like boot camp ..if u can avoid taking him you can consider yourself being the luckiest person on earth.
Tomasello, is a great teacher! He has a great sense of humor however the class takes alot out of you! The quizzes are rather difficult so you have to study, but if you enjoy classical music and so on, Go For the Class
If you like to memorize 50 vocab words and 3 full essays, then take this class, and you'll be lucky to get a B. The quizzes are ridiculous. The teacher is funny and knows his stuff well, but he expects everyone to remember every little thing they read/learned.
This professor is an absolute genius! He knows his stuff and incoporates modern music into his lessons. He'll keep you awake by making you laugh. The tests are only hard if you don't study for them. It is a lot of memorizing but there are really no surprises on the tests. I LOVED IT. Tomasello is hot hottie hot!!
This guy is a jerk. He knows his stuff, that's true... but he expects you to know it as if it's your major or something. Want to do well? Prepare to study for this like you would study for a REAL class that you can actually use in life. Workload ridiculous, tests difficult, rude guy... dropped his class before W grade, everyone else was too late.
This guy needs to get a clue, majority are taking this course from their block program. 3/4th of the class is asleep, the rest are your usual study all night students. VERY BORING unless you are a big fan of how classical music is made, forget about the composers or their music. Take art or another proff. But he is not hard to get an A
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND U TO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. HE MAKES MUSIC LOOK HARDER THAN PHYSICS! OH, AND THE CLASS IS REALLY BORING! BRING A PILLOW WITH U WHEN HE PLAYS A MUSICAL PIECE!
Listen to me people! Forget all the past comments. Tomasello is a great professor. All you have to do is study and you will get an A+. His test are very easy! Just cram the stuff and you'll do great! He's funny in a corney way, but hey, at least he will make you laugh! Great guy, i suggest you take him. You will get an EASY A, extremely Easy clas
He hates his students. The words that comes out of his mouth "I get paid either way so I don't have to teach the class"
ok tomasello is straight up. he's actually really funny. i really basically jus sleep half the class and he basically hands you the whole test before the test. its a whole lot of material to study for but so easy bc u know exactly wat u need to know. a lot of memorizing.
The point is who is going to memorize all terms after the test? Going through this and the way he treat students are just enough to kill the taste of Subjust. He is a man with a no accomplishment himself in music. Plus he is a very mean person, 2. I will be better if I repeat teaching the same old for 100 times. Thank about it.
This professor is a very good one. Though he does have his moments, and reminds me of House, the hit tv show on fox, he is a good teacher. Just study the tests he gives in advance and you'll do fine.
I just needed another liberal arts class to graduate. The lectures are interesting and he truly is a brillian prof. I'm an accounting major and have put in as much time in this class as accounting3 and taxation. Whoever said liberal arts classes at Baruch are a joke is very very wrong. Hopefully he curves cuz its just TOO much to memorize! ;)
u guys r freaking crazy. this is the best teacher ever, not very "cool" as he thinks but sometimes funny! very very very easy class. I NEVER took notes in class and NEVER OPENED the book, and still got an A!!! just listen to him and go to chris and dan's workshops! u dont need anything for that class except good memory and listening skills.take him
bootcamp for college. he is the man, 5 quizes which he gives the entire quizes once the semester begins. go to workshops with dan or chris and do the quizes ahead of time and u should get an A.
Me study looong time. Me get loooow grade. Tomasello still give me A. He give juicy curve. I learn a lot. Sitting in his class is like chillin in Yale University. He know plentiful and plant his knowledge so u can grow. Recomended. I am finance major and learn more in Tomasello than anywhere!
He represents the worse side of a person could be. Not a cultivating professor at all.
Nice professor, but his class sucks
If you are good at memorizing stuff, you will get easy A in his class.
Whoever gives this guy a low score probably slept during his lectures, didnt looked at the five pre-made quizzes the day before (which is VERY helpful) nor went to any of the workshops (dan and chris are really funny :])...oh and not to mention dropped his class becuase they dont have the ability to memorize.
This professor wants to make Motzart out of everyone in the class! If you have never taken music class and don't play any instruments stay away from him... He'll ruin your GPA right away. Lots of material to memorize! We're in Baruch not to sing - this is a business school
If he was a good music teacher, you will see him at music shools not at Baruch; If he was a good teacher, he will inspire you; If your grandmather saw this, she will yell at ya, STAY AWAY!!
He's not a bad teacher but has very difficult exams and a hard grader. 5 quizes but they have to be in complete sentences (spelling and grammar count). unless you love music and are willing to devote a lot of study time...take someone else.
an very odd one, that is it.
JUST AN AWFUL EXPERIANCE. PEOPLE LIKE THIS GIVE COLLEGE A BAD NAME. I HAD TO SUFFER THROUGH HIS CLASS AND FOR WHAT...MUSIC??? HE TREATS THIS STUFF LIKE CALCULAS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT TAKE HIM OR DROP IT FAST BECAUSE HES JUST THE WORST.
Now you know who he is! I have many friends at college suffered a stroke with him. He should be at a music school if he is qualified.
Did not receive an A because of something that was completely, 100% out of my control. He knew what sort of situation I was in but his attitude was your problem, not mine so tough luck. He's mean, not "cool" like he thinks he is, condescending, unhelpful. I'm honestly thinking of changing my major because of him. Avoid him at all costs!
i hate this class.. i really do..i mean the first day he was pretty cool but then it just went downhill from there.. its not that its his fault.. its just its really diffucult teaching that kind of a huge class on that kind of a topic.. he is too controlling
He made me regret choosing Music as my minor. His Capstone class is RIDICULOUS: 25 page term paper (you have to turn in drafts throughout the semester), numerous quizzes and assorted assignments, lots and lots of reading, etc. I know Capstones aren't meant to be cakewalks, but this was far and away the most difficult 4000-level course I've taken.
Thanks for the comment to Bush! One of the best professors there is, enjoyed it very much! You learn a lot, very interesting, and relaxing to come and leave with a song. Many here are just freaking lazy to study and learn, just want to fly through college! He dedicates so much time to students. His forums got me going everyday...Just Hilarious! :)
I hate classical music, and i cannot hear the beats of the music, but i did well in the class. he's pretty chill, sometimes gets into mean mode. he gives 5 quizes, which you really do have to study for, but other then that its a pretty relaxed atmospere.
He's cool. Funny but sometimes corny. He's not young but he has a real young vibe. The only thing you need to do is study as soon as you get your textbook. He gives you all the quizzes before hand so easy but you still have to study a lot. Go to the workshops!!!! Helps a lot. The more you go to , the better.
Ok, not an easy class like you would think b/c its music, the quizes are given to you in advance, obviously the study quizes include more info than u need to know, hes not going to baby u, if u have a question, u must present an intelligent question, or show that you put efford into a problem b4 he will answer you, ill probably end up with a B.
He is really involved in Blackboard and helps you study for quizzes. There are 5 quizzes which is awesome opposed to just a midterm and final. The quizzes are really detail oriented but if you attend his classes and actually study, you'll be fine. He's really quirky and you end up looking forward to the things he'll say or do.
Not fun. at all.
oh my god avoid at all costs
This class is difficult, but if you put the work in, you'll end up with an A. He gives you the quizes so just study, post on blackboard and go to workshops. You dont even have to read the textbook, just study for the quizes like crazy using blackboard. I did that and i got an A.
DROP HIS CLASS..ITS NOT AN EASY MUSIC CLASS..IT IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE 50 WORDS N YOU ONLY GET TESTED ON 5-10. THEN THERES A LISTENING PART N ALSO AN ESSAY..YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE 3 ESSAYS N ONLY GET TESTED ONE ONE. ATTENDANCE DOESNT EVEN COUNT. N YOU ONLY GET LIKE 23-25 MINUTES TO DO THE TEST HE GIVES 20 FOR WRITING N DA REST
TERRIBLE TEACHER. DROP IMMEDIATLY.
I took this class as a freshman it was a lot of work but it’s not that bad. His quizzes are base on definitions, a listening part and a essay. He will give you before hand the words and 3 questions for the essays. He doesn’t take attendance. He class is ok and you could learn a lot.
So much material to memorize, but an easy A if you work hard
u dont need the textbook, just study off blackboard, he is very helpful in that sense. u dont need to go to class every day you can have someone sign you in on a sheet of paper and its ok. u dont need to be in class to get an A, just study off blackboard and ask clear questions that makes him think ur studying. he doesnt like people who slack off
Very annoying class in that you have to memorize a lot of definitions. The quizzes weren't that bad, but if you can't memorize you will have a lot of difficulty. Tomasello is a character, but sometimes lectures can be really boring. You MUST ATTEND WORKSHOPS to do well. You also have to know how to be quiet when music is playing otherwise he will
The class..no lies..has its moments but you definitely have to be really into it. The quizzes were ok because we had them before hand but I still ended up failing and dropping the class. If you wanna pass you MUST ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS and PREPARE FOR THE QUIZZES..them you can go to class and sleep through to the end and wont get in trouble 4 talkin
tough..really tough. must attend alot of workshops to get a good grade. if u go to the workshops your going to be fine but if you dont your in trouble. must memorize ALOT of definitions and must know the essays. textbook not really useful because if you go to workshops and study off blackboard you should do fine. BE WARNED IT IS NOT EASY
Fall06. It is a good sleeping class. Ask clear questions on blackboard and go to the workshops. He gives you the quizzes in advance and you just have to study off of it. There are lots of definitions to memorize though. And don't talk when he plays music during class.
He is a very funny dude, at times he will just crack up the entire class. Has a great personality, has a hug curve an 80 is an A...Take this class quizes are givin to you before hand. Just chill out in class and get the defintions and essays to the quizes and you'll do fine. Great class (dont buy book)
He expects you as a college student to grow up and be mature. If you can not handle that then don’t take his class. You will spend a lot of time studying for the quizzes. He takes attendance every day. you have to hand in a piece of paper with some definitions and your name counts as your attendance. Best teacher I ever had. Grow up.
Im getting an A in Tomasello's class and I might just engrave that on my tombstone. This was one of the hardest classes I had to take. Although he is extremely helpful he also expects a lot from you. He grades you based on 5 Quizes and Participation. You must attend at least 1 workshop prior to each Quiz.
Take Theatre
Doesnt teach well Tests are hard and graded very strictlyyou must attended workshops before every quiz
Class grade is based on 5 quizes, which are worth 25 points each, including about 10 definitions, an essay, and a listening section. He gives you a list of about 40-60 words, and 3 essays, and picks them randomly. The remaining 5 points are listening for specific types of music, and what eras they are from, etc.
This class was hard, he expects a lot from you. He's really funny though and so so smart, he knows basically everything about music. He's awesome.
Okay, if you're lazy...DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. I got a D in this class, but it's not reflective of him as a professor. He is a very good professor. You need to be ready to work your butt off. It's one of the only courses that I've had to struggle with.
He expects a lot from his students but he's not too tough of a grader. He may be intimidating but is actually very nice and easygoing when you talk to him one-on-one. He really knows what he's talking about and he's hilarious.
Prof. Tomasello is and always will be my most favorite professor. If he drank, I'd ask him for a beer.
Haha! Tomasello I love how you strike back. This guy believes in tough love. I never talked to him face-to-face and got an A. The class is curved, 85=A. He has workshops and chatrooms that would help you learn without reading and adds to extra credit. If you expect to do nothing then leave. 5 quizes each 25 min. long so you must study.
Nice teacher ;)
your amazing i want to go to baruch college now haha
"I survived Tomasello's class" (I caught one of the tees he throws at the end of the semester) Thats how it is. This class is hard but an 85 is an A. He is extremely helpful and funny :D Take him but be prepared to work hard.
Not the most interesting class but is fairly easy. He helps by giving workshops, blackboard, and making a chatroom the night before a quiz. Easy A if you make the effort to study. DO NOT take if you're a slacker.
Great professor. The class is hard but he is extremely fair and gives you all the tools you need to do well in the class. It is not difficult to do well, you just need to do the reading and prepare for the quizzes. If you do bad, blame yourself and not him.
A pompous savant. A liberal idiot.
One of the most unqualified teachers teaching at Baruch. He is extremely easy partly due to the fact that he cannot teach. He is not intelligent and makes the class too easy. As a result everyone does well! Great job idiot! Nonetheless take this class for an easy A!
Great professor! I took the course over summer, we did not have final, but we have quises every class (very easy if you listen to him at the class). He grades fair, plus i rather spend a bit more time during semester studying and have time at the end. Plus the class was extremely enterested.
The class is extremely hard BUT he is a nice guy if you talk to him one on one. He is intimidating but he does try to help you understand the material. Gives the quizes ahead of time [not as easy as it sounds],you have to really memorize every single thing. The quizes are timed, 22.5 mins to write an essay, 10 full sentence definitions & listening.
He is not that bad, it just that you have to study very hard for his exams. If u messed up with the first 2 exams..u should think about drop out fo his class. There is no 5 extra credits.only for a few..so dont rely on the 5points do good on the tests.
The best Proffesor!Easy class, but we had every other month an exam. He gives questions in advence, so you can study. No final exam. Questions sometimes not really easy, but come on, your in college - so study and you will get an A.And also, you will have workshops, very very helpful for the exams.Take this Prof-u will be fine(dnt forget to study
ROFL I took him freshman year. His lectures were awesome. I thought he was sooo hard; failed all his quizes and dropped the course But, I just saw his rebuttals on Professors Strike Back and I sooooo regret dropping his course. This guy is awesome. And he DID blast TUPAC on the first day of class. I wish all professors were as engaging as this guy.
A fun teacher, creative, and interesting. Will not hesitate to cause laughter. His quizzes are quite hard and require studying, he also requires mandatory workshops on your own time, overall he's an average college teacher. He provides quiz questions beforehand, a fun class but definately not easy.
Professor keeps his students entertained and every class is interesting and fun to be in. Not the easiest A but if you study your gludius maximus off then youll do fine. Overall great teacher and despite what many might think he DOES want you to pass this course, thats why there's a pretty big curve at the end, durf .
Tomasello is a funny professor, tells you exactly what you need to know and how to get an A.
AMAZING. I wanted to cry on the last day. The class is hard but definitely worth it.If you study enough you can pull off an A. The grades are definitely fair. He is such an entertaining and funny professor.Professor Tomasello is extremely helpful and gives you the resources to do well. The class is really interesting.
He's a great professor. I'm not a big music person, and he definitely made the clss interesting. Please, if you want agood grade go to the workshops religiously and take advantage of the onlline help that he gives before tha exam.
Awsome professor! Straight up guy, really funny. Learn a lot from his class, quizes are diffuclt, need to really study, and know the material COLD. Go to as many workshops as possible before the quizes, they're very helpful and the more you go to the more you have a chance to get 5 points for participation. Busted my a$$ in this class but got an A
I took Tomasello last semester and thought he was very funny. He makes class enjoyable, very punctual and knowledgeable of the material. No midterm or final, there are 5 quizzes that each cover a different topic. All the resources he gives helps you to pass. Do the work and you'll pass. He is stern but VERY entertaining. No reason not to get an A.
All right, this guy is a complete nut job but he makes it as easy as possible for the students! He is strict on the rules - if you do everything he tells you to do you will certainly get an A. 5 straight-forward quizzes and before each quiz he will hold a review session in which he will answers all questions. Looks mean but he is a good professors.
He rocks and is super hot. If you don't like him. as he would say, F*** YOU!!!!!!!
get absolutely nothing out of his classes take someone else if you can
He's so pathetic. He LOVES attention. The evidence is all there. He makes the class unneccessary hard when it should be the easiest class you take. Unless you're going to major in music or want a challenge, take him. Otherwise, take someone else since there are others who give you an easier time.
best music teacher ever! anyone who didnt like him is lazy. he practically GIVES you the quiz. theres alot of words to memorize but its really easy. just make index cards. really fun class.
The class was a waste of my time. He's not really a good professor at all. Managed to get an A on my own.
Take someone esle if you want tto have a life.
Great professor, yes makes you study, yes makes you read, yes its not easy, but hes one of the coolest guys.Took him in 5 weeks, hard but worth it.Hes not one of those guys whos all serious, he makes it fun, shows hes human and not a robot. He makes it interesting and welcomes feedback from students.
This dude was very knowledgeable. He made the class very interesting and he saved me 100 bucks by telling us not to buy the textbook. Just study for the exams, and the A will be in the bag. He seems to have an attitude but its probably because he expects a lot from his students.
Really, you can't ask for a better professor. If I can't recall something, all I have to do is go back to the lectures posted. Wish all the other professors cared as much about my grade. So what if he doesnt like you...as long as you've done the work, your grade will reflect that.
If you want a C or B for working your ass off, take him. If you want an A for a moderate amount of work, take soloman, she is much easier. He makes the tests so much harder than they should be and he makes you go to workshops outside of class.
AVOID!
I LOVE THIS GUY! He is a crack up!
funny guy, but not a good instructor, explains things in hard way. make the reading more difficult than it was. lots of things to memorize before every test. be careful.
Study and follow the review sheets word for word. You have to work but if you do so an A is in your future. There is also a 10 point curve on the average, so if you get anything over an 80 you get an A range grade.
I dont know what you guys are talking about. What you put in, is what you get out of this class. It was hard work but i got an A. HE GIVE YOU THE TEST, if you do less than a B its ur own fault. HEs FUNNY and HUMBLE and cares about you. Great teacher. LC06.
Extremely dynamic professor. If you stay awake & don't do anything else, you will still learn. Tests have an unusual amount of memorization. Take his class only if you have genuine intentions to learn. This class is NOT a walk in the park - particularly his tests. Most interesting class this semester - learned the most in his class as well.
This class is more for the freshman, new to college studying because Tomasello teaches on high school level. He draws pictures on the board with minimal informative texts. He states on the first day, "I'm not here to teach you about music, but about how to study in college". He digresses from class "notes" with his offensive language and jokes.
The best. If you are in school and have decided not to waste your/your parents money and actually apply yourself and learn something, you'll easily earn an A and get a ton out of Tomasello's class. Practically GIVES YOU THE QUIZZES, all 5 of them IN THE BEGINNING OF THE TERM, curves, posts up information on blackboard, what more do you want?
I wouldn't say this class is EASY because you do have to put in a lot of work. I got an A in this class. Tomasello thinks he's funny and his jokes are pretty annoying sometimes. Oh if you want participation points, go to the virtual chat hours and TALK a lot. I only got 1 point out of 5 because I didn't do the virtual chat hour. Just study n do goo
Childish professor. Somehow has his own cult.
I agree with below comment. Childish and worst professor, I mean its not a finace class, or a real subject! Its a stupid intro to music class and hes just a stupid worthless music professor. I mean other professors are much more understanding and easier and the class is much more pleasant. Trust me I dropped his class just in time. WORST.
Best professor in the whole wide world. Lectures are so crystal clear that I hardly had to open a textbook (I'm also a good note taker so that helps). Everything he speaks on is from the text. NO SURPRISES. One of the best professors in the Baruch.
I got an A in his class. It's not hard, really. In all fairness he DOES have all the questions for the quizzes available. But his rebuttal video made me laugh. "Your parents should have slapped you around when you were younger?" "Stop hanging out on Friday and Saturday night?" Lulz. Welcome to the 2010s, Andrew.
He's horrible
I got an A in his class. I like the professor. He knows what he's doing and is pretty fair with tests he gives. Tests are easy if you learn terms and write essays beforehand. I loved his jokes and his humor. SOME people who say negative things about him guess what? Its's not his fault that you're a lazy ass
Ha on the video he says he is just trying to do what is best for us. What a joke?!? He needs to stop wasting our tax dollars. He is so conceited...his rebuttal video cracks me out...."Don't tell me I am not helpful". Conceited and a waste of money.
I like his teaching style, it's different and he keeps you interested. He's pretty funny. It's a 3 hour class so if you don't want to shoot yourself after the 2nd hour b/c you're so bored, take him. His quizzes are ridiculously hard, there are a lot of readings, 25 page paper and a blog.
The guy is awsome. definately take the class if you are serious, or else he'll kick your ass. its hard, but not impossible...but its not party time, so dont be a lazy ****. He is cool, i had coffee with him yesterday, such a badass
I thought he was a great professor. He gives you the quizzes ahead of time!! It takes a decent amount of work to do well but it's college. Everyone on here needs to grow up and actually try to do well. He's funny and the class was interesting. Take him while you can!!
A LOT of readings to do. Quizzes are open book, but focuses on detail that you can totally overlook. Has a blog which you basically have to comment on what he says or what others say. 25 pg paper on whatever topic on Madonna that he has approved. Responds very quickly to emails. VERY tough class, half class dropped it-inc me.
I had my first class today also, and the guy literally gives out every question to every quiz to all students. Also, he's hysterically funny. How does this guy have terrible reviews? Yeah, he's mean spirited and sarcastic, but who cares? It's entertaining. Yeah, he'll force you to actually learn, but that's what you're paying tuition for, right?
Honestly, I don't know why there are people complaining about Tomasello! HE GIVES YOU THE QUIZ QUESTIONS BEFOREHAND. You don't even have to dread over what to study for his quizzes the night before because you can just search all yor answers online. Plus, he tries to make the class funny and it works for the most part.
Unreliable, irresponsible, irritating, and rude professor. Keep away from him. Boring as hell. If you want to learn intensive English, then take it. He will help you to write complete sentence and memorize hundred of musical terms.Good luck.
I had this prof. for the last summer session. It was an interesting class. He encourages students to learn. He gives the quizzes answers the day before. Most are definitions and c'mon.. if you cant write a full complete sentence u are toast!! He knows what he is teaching. You can tell music is his passion.Got an A on his class.
This guy is the man. Super smart yet, yet super down to earth.
He is a real educator, very down to the earth, and a very smart guy. His course is extremely hard and you have to participate a lot. His quizzes is not as hard as you though. All you have to do study, participate, and work hard. He is very helpful, he'll answer students in the middle of the night. So prepare to work hard before you take this course
Give you lots of chances to improve. Must not talk while music is playing.
Highly overrated
Professor Tomasello was extremely helpful. One the first quiz I scored a 19 out of 25 and argued with him about it for a week and he would not change the grade. But it inspired me to do much better. As a result I got an A. It wasn't an easy A, but I got what I deserved. Tomasello was a real good professor and he answered every single question.
I never rate on RMP but Tomasello is awesome. He practically gives you the answers beforehand, it's just up to you to apply yourself and memorize. Also a very chill dude, I once talked to him after class about majors and he steered me towards doing what I love (now I'm in weissman instead of zicklin), and I'm so happy he did.
He's probably one of the least motivating profs I've ever had; he doesn't push students hard enough, which sometimes make it seem like he doesn't care. That being said, I believe every student should be self-motivated enough to seek info beyond the scope of what's taught in the "classroom." A prof can only cover so much in one semester.
6 open book quizzes, 25pg paper on Madonna (any topic you want). 2-3 blogs per week to read/comment. The quizzes are hard. Basically they just test your ability to remember details. You have to read the stuff as late as possible because it is impossible to remember that name of the person who did this and that if you read ahead of time. Kinda rude.
Great guy, great professor. Difficult but if u read the textbook you'll do just great. Love to have him again.
DO NOT SKIP ANY QUIZZES. I missed one, but got close to perfect scores on all my other quizzes and got a B- in the class. Quizzes easy if you use study guide. No need to buy textbook. Quiz material can be found in notes or online. Lectures interesting if you play music/are interested in music history.
Worse prof ever! if you want to get a good grade dont take him.. too much to memorize for a quiz. He makes the listening ex. too hard and he doent examplain well. hard grading.
HE IS AWESOME!! Great guy, smart, knows his stuff, but dont mess up. He's straight up and will tell you how it is. Attendance and quizes are crucial! He makes himself always available. Dont expect to cruz by in this class, its a lot of work, but you learn a lot!
Tomasello is only for students who really try. He sees through your BS so you better not give him any. If you apply yourself and give it your all, you will come out of the capstone feeling accomplished. But, you have to give 1,000% of your effort for his class. It's not for the weak. He is also a really cool guy to discuss things with outside class
awesome professor! i was somewhat scared to take his class because of previous ratings. however, i learned that he really wants us to learn things. quizzes are easy as long as you focus on the lectures. somewhat a lot of homework are assigned but should not take that long to finish. overall, focus on lectures and do the homework, easy A
Without question one of the worst experiences I've ever had in college. Extremely pompous, know-it-all professor who is generally rude to students. Too many questions and you'll be ridiculed by him. His online lectures ended up being just sessions of rambling. Only take his class if you can withstand his attitude and are a "music" person.
If you fail this class, you shouldn't be at Baruch, period. Many people at Baruch have a blurred vision of the real world in which someone will hold your hand and give you easy work. This is not the case. Tomasello really knows his stuff; this class is hard but if you apply yourself you will do well.
This class requires hard work. But you know what is expected of you from the first day of class. Tomasello is straight foward. Welcome to the real world. If you want an easy A. Its not gonna happen. You can get a good grade in this class if you put in the work. If you can't get a decent grade in this course . You should eat a glass sandwich
I studied hard, but I just could not find the right method to comprehend how to index the six quiz questions we received bi-weekly. OK, STUDENTS; give Dr. Tomasello a break, he is a highly skilled music historian, and can deliver immense knowledge on your musical journey. I only have three more things to say: STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN! Wayne
He's pretty funny. This is not a course you can easily get an A in so study hard. I found he's generally irritable and somewhat abrasive personality-wise so that's something to deal with but otherwise a decent professor. Surprised people got As seeing the stats for each quiz.
I had this guy in spring 2001! I consider him as one of the best teachers in Baruch in terms of how well he teaches, his energy and how he generates interest... passionate about what he does. You will learn because he "teaches". However, his quizzes/tests are tough so make sure you study!
First of all I need to say WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE HIM. He is a teacher who actually cares bout his students. If you put work into his class he will work with you until you understand everything. I wish every teacher were like him. Then maybe education would be better for us all
Great professor. He's very knowledgeable of the work. It's near impossible to not get 100% on the online work because you get unlimited amount of chances to get 100. His quizzes are hard though but if you take notes from lecture and textbook you'll be fine. Definitely recommend him for this class
I learned so much about music after taking the capstone. So much of what I learned i have already began to apply to my musical journey. Once you complete this course you feel a sense of accomplishment because it is not a easy course. You have to put in the work. Tomassello is always there to help as long as he sees you making an effort.
took his online class this jan and it was easy. Got an A- and hardly put in work for it. It isn't really easy but if you kno music slightly it shldnt me difficult. Coursemate was 60% of grade and u had unlimited time and chances to get all. four quizzes worth 10% each that had atleast a day to complete and were not difficult at all. Take him!!
He knows what he's doing, and gives good feedback, responding students' emails very quick. Fair grader, 4 quizs, 10% for each, 60% for online practicing work which is unlimited try so it's impossible not to get the full credits. Quizs are not that hard as long as you take notes. Lectures of Classical music are my favorite. Highly recommend!!!
Seriously, you MUST keep up with the readings or else you will crash and burn. Quizzes are specific- take notes and summarizeindex readings. You are assigned a 25-page paper on a Madonna topic of your choice. Follow his format, watch his paper videos, as he assigns parts throughout the semester that add up. Otherwise, very interesting lectures.
For International students, you may expect you get C+ or D. Worst experiences with him and to became to hate Music. His teaching method is for so hard for them. I kept studying, worked hard on his classes, but did not do well. So much non sense questions on the exams. He has horrible manner to students. My GPA fall down with all his classes.
Attention to detail is a must. Course is rather demanding but relevant. Lectures are insightful and you will learn a ton if you also follow his blog and materials. Be prepared to use half of your printing credits and write a 25 page paper throughout the course. All said, very glad I took the class regardless of the grade.
dont take him if you're not willing to work for it. simple. also has the cutest dog i've ever seen in my life.
I hate this man but I also love him. He really really really knows his stuff and can teach it well. But dont expect this class to be a walk in the park. This was the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. But all the work and studying does make you learn the stuff and youll remember it even if you dont want to. Cant avoid him.
I used to play the online class and watch tv. just make sure you do the stupid hw online. Also ever so often ask a stupid question b.c he gives 5 points for participation. the exams have alot of pressure that comes with them, but at the end of the day it's a music class and it's a joke. This guy trys to rip on zicklin students for some reason
You either like him, or you don't. I have personally had a good experience thus far. That being said, this was the hardest I worked for any college class. You MUST do the readings. I personally made review sheets for each exam. Do not procrastinate, your work-load will build up and become unmanageable. This class has to be your priority. Good luck
Hes a good teacher. I took the winter class. Mindtap was worth 80% and we had one quiz that was worth 20%. Attendance is important. Its pretty easy if you listen to his lectures and do the mindtap hw.
Some people love him, some hate him. Either way, you will learn in his classes whether you like it or not. This is by no means an easy class. You will need to study and work daily, but don't let this discourage you. The best things in life don't come easy. Make sure to read, annotate, and index all the texts. You must know the texts inside and out.
Must read all the blogs and readings, but the material is interesting. This class is not easy but indexing all the readings will help a lot for the tests. Sometimes i felt bored after 2 hours listening to him speak. TIP!: if you want to leave class early, take your phone out and he lets you leave!
Cont... It looks like his response to me dropping the class on 3-30 was to passive aggressively write a RMP review about the event. I also had lunch that day with a close friend who is now a Baruch music professor and we laughed about the whole thing. Definitely quite a character to have around the office. I will miss the rants!
Last week my phone rang due to someone else calling me, not due to me using my phone during class. I didnt take the phone out and he still had me leave class for the rest of the day. I had an advisors appt that day and found out I didnt need his class to graduate so on 3-30 I dropped the course. To be continued...^^^
He is generous and passionate. If you follow his rule, you will be ok. Never give up!
you either like him or hate him. very knowledgeable, but can be extremely extra. enjoyed taking his class when he wasn't being over the top. could come off cocky and rude, but with time understand where hes going.
He's actually one of my favorite professors ever. It's a crazy tough class but you're gonna learn a lot from it. If you really really care about your GPA then don't take him, but if you're trying to really learn some cool stuff in college then you have to take him. Always responds quickly to emails & you can tell he really cares about his students.
He is the reason why people drop out of college. They realize it isnt beneficial to listen to an egomaniac talk, give 25 page paper on Madonna and have you read blogs. Come up with real material to teach. STFU about personal life and respect the fact that students pay at least part of your salary. Parents should have slapped him when he was young
Lectures will teach you material but will have nothing to do with quizzes and paper. The quizzes are fill in the blank from direct quotes in the reading. You HAVE to read. I read and I still fail all the quizzes. It is not a format I am used to and am struggling with a lot. 25-page paper. Kind of ridiculous but you can do it. Just. Good luck.
Probably one of the best professors at Baruch. He definitely makes you work for the grade, but will work with you to help out if he sees that youre putting in effort. The lectures are always engaging and the material is extremely interesting, with many powerful takeaways from class to class. Recommend!
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. I went to every class and participated yet he takes 10 points off. does not have a clear criteria for grading and is always mixing topics when teaching. If you want to fail to take him, worst professor i have had in my life. the class hates him
worst professor ever, he would give students assignments even before the semester start and the first assignment will be due on before the first day of classes, also will make students feel like idiots if they don't answer on specific way.
His teaching style is a disgrace to pedagogy. Disrespectful to students. Bro must be mad about something in his life to be treating students like that. Be humble and kind Tom, be humble and kind. GET AN A with perfectly formatted MLA paper+take notes on people+concepts in textbooks, and don't leave class cause he acts as if it's holy knowledge
I wouldn't recommend taking this professor. A lot of students dropped his class. He is intolerant to his students' opinions and provokes them with controversial topics. Grades are based on 25-page essay, quizzes, and blogs. The 25-page essay is completed in parts and in MLA format. Quizzes cover a lot of readings/links, blogs, and lectures.
He is THE WORST PROFESSOR I have ever seen. DOES NOT have a clear grading criteria. Participation counts a lot. If you go to every single class and be there on time but you do not participate, he will directly deduct 10 POINTS from your final grade at the end of semester. AVOID HIM!!!!!!!!!
Taking him for Winter. His daily homeworks aren't well spaced out. On some days you may get 1 chapter, on other days you have to read and submit THREE chapters, which is ridiculous.
he is a good professor, if you pay attention. if you master chapter 2 and chapter 3 you will do great
This class is freaking miserable. Avoid at all costs if you can. Quizzes are absurd and the topic is ridiculously boring and useless.
This class is miserable. This class teaches utterly useless information, especially as a capstone to a music business degree. As the capstone for a regular music major it makes sense, still miserable though. Quizzes are on an absurd amount of information and questions are ridiculously specific. Oh and everyone has to do a 25 pg paper on Madonna.
HE IS THE REASON WHY PEOPLE DROP OUT OF COLLEGE. THE QUIZES AND TESTS ARE OVERLY SPECIFIC, IRRATIONAL AND UNFAIR. WAS NOT GIVEN HELP WHEN ASKED. AND WHAT SUCKS IS HES THE ONLY PROFESSOR WHO TEACHES MOST OF THE MUSIC CAPSTONES. ABSOLUTE HORRIFIC PROFESSOR.
The material is super interesting and I'm really enjoying reading the text. My problem really lies in his quizzing method. His questions aren't very reasonable, and our weekly reading covers a lot of ground. The average student is getting less than half the material right. Many people repeat the class, as its required. Love the subject, hate him.
He's not the best professor to have. I wouldn't recommend him. He's rude and doesn't even give you a chance to makeup missing works. The course material is kind of hard but you have to do the reading. He has this motto or whatever you want to call it and it's "making students miserable since 1982" which is dumb.
This dude is easily the worst professor I've had in 4 years of college. Not only is he rude and disrespectful to his students, but he takes pride in it. Obsessed with Madonna to a creepy extent and will force you to write a 25 page paper about her (you're not allowed to choose any other subject). Do whatever you can to avoid this professor.
The worst professor at Baruch. Talks endlessly and is one of the most disrespectful human beings. I get it, you're reading this comment and thinking "it's harsh" "can't be that bad" "won't happen to me" well it all of that and more so don't be fooled by the good reviews.
Tomasello is definitely a funny professor, I took this class online in the winter term 2021. The only criticisms are that he was very quick with attendance and polls. Also he can be harsh on students but if you do ur work ur chilling. As a musician it was rewarding for me to taking this class and train my ear a bit.
Talks endlessly in class but grade is based on reading. Mostly talks about himself too, not much relevance. Participation matters but you wont get much chance to participate unless you want to write essays on each posts he does online
Worst professor I have ever taken. Too bad it's for my minor. Lectures are just for him to hear himself talk. Gives a 12 question quiz in 6 minutes, each question 2 short responses per question, and it's weekly. They are worth 60% of the grade. Thinks that all we do is just read this god-awful book. Too bad it's too late to change minor. Terrible..
Disrespectful, gives you exams only gives 5-10 min. Never lectures about whats going to be graded on. His course does not have a format. He expects you to be a musical genius in class because one person in the class know what they are doing. avoid music management major and avoid music as minor or major completely you wont graduate on time.
I never thought capstone was going to be this difficult. This semester there was no 25 page paper so we had 6 long quizzes. For each quiz theres like 100 pages to read and a few long blogs. The quiz is so precise as in he expects you to memorize the content word for word. Quizzes are all fill in and he only gives 20 mins for 30 questions.
50% of the class is about music. The other 50% is reading the works of every postmodern cultural Marxist of the last 60 years.
The man is passionate about what he teaches, and his level of knowledge is absurd. He can be quite a handful at times and technology is a big no-no in his class, but you get to learn so much. If you want an easy ride, this isn't the class for you, but if you want an actual education, take the course.
Very knowledgeable and passionate man,I would have learned so much in this class had he not been such a terrible teacher. He knows so much, and is so terrible at conveying the information. His class is set up in such a way that you are actually incentivized to not understand the material, and instead memorize names and dates out of 100s of pgs.Joke
Lectures irrelevant. If you want to pass the class, memorize the textbook and do the quizzes. The quizzes are the only thing that matters to your grade.
This professor is what made me check each professor's rating before taking their class. The absolute worst. His lectures are all a waste of time you are better off just memorizing the vocabulary in the textbook. He also gives you quizzes on the most specific and seemingly irrelevant parts of the vocabulary. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
This Professor gives a quiz every single class, at least two, so be prepared for that. This class is 100% about memory and regurgitating information. Oh and also, you will get 2 SHORT RESPONSE QUIZZES with 60 SECONDS to complete it. 30 seconds for each question where the response required is at least that of the sentence level. Have fun.
Very disrespectful professor. In my class alone, I've seen him humiliate students and be very stubborn when it comes to students trying to reason with him. He mostly starts his quizzes BEFORE class starts so there isn't much fairness there. He prides himself from bad reviews about him and hangs them up in his office. Baruch thinks this is okay...
Controversial professor but this class has to be one of his best. He opted out of the Madonna papers and is now doing it based on 30-question quizzes, where you only need 17 to get full credit. Open book, but don't let that fool you. You still need to study your butt off and you might be lucky enough to get full credit. Read, annotate, and index.
This class is helpful for all MME majors. The class is Music and Society and while a lot of the readings may not be directly related to music, it relates to society. You need to understand society to know what music's place in society is. To everyone dreading this class, try to open your ears and learn as much as you can. This class is helpful.
Horrible professor and person. He makes it extremely difficult for students to pass, you will only pass if you devote hours and hours every week which is not attainable for most students. The quizzes are so stressful especially for bad test takers. His ego is ginormous and he thrives off of these negative comments but something needs to be done.
Prepare yourself to deal with the rudest, nastiest, and most disrespectful human being you will ever meet. It is an absolute shame that us music lovers must endure the worst education and college experience because of one man who will do anything to give you a hard time. He gets a kick out of failing his students, bonus points if you cry. Stay away
Do the work
Read, annotate, index and repeat. Also, do the blog posts. He's a good teacher but quizzes are tough. Make sure to study. Otherwise you will not make it far in this class. Good luck!
