Tomko is what every professor should aspire to be. Really enjoyed his class and teaching style.

Expected to read more novels and short stories, instead no novels and way too much poetry. Text is not that great and no other books are used. Prof. is very funny, knowledgable and likable, too bad content isn't more interesting.

Very caring professor - I doubt he has ever failed anyone. Very easy class - two essay papers and two tests of about three essay questions each. Book not very good, but Dr. Tomko is changing books anyway. Very knowledgeable and does a great job getting students to look deeply at the literature. Most of class is deconstructing short stories.

Dr. Tomko is a great teacher. Very easy going maybe too easy going kids don't do the required reading and he lets it slide. Late with papers he lets it slide. Great guy always willing to help. Take him for anything

Dr. Tomko is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've taken. He's extremely fun and interesting. Bottom line, he knows his stuff. He's really inspiring and very linient. You can rewrite papers for a better grade. I highly reccomend him.

If you are going to take a english class at bergen take this guy. He rules. He is a normal person, he wont talk down to you and he makes the subject matter as ineresting as possible. If you do the work you will get a A or B at the lowest.

I have taken Dr Tomko for three semesters now Wrt 101, Wrt 201 and Lit. He is by far the best professor i have had at Bergen. He cares he os there to help you and guide you. He is a funny man and you will enjoy class. He is really cool. I LOVED him and was really sad to go. If you want to learn and are ready take Dr Tomko you will be very HAPPY.

He's so energetic about teaching that he makes you actually want to come to class. Just make sure you stick to MLA format and you're good. Can't wait to take him for another Lit class.

Prof. Tomko is the most intelligent teacher Bergen has to offer. Knows absolutely everything about Literature & it is CLEARLY his world. Funny & down to earth. this guy was awesome, downside class was boring. he new it was boring so he made it interesting. another thing was the people in the class. 1 kid who asked the stupidest things, 2girls who sucked up, and 1 immigrant lady who kept giving dirty looks 2 any1 who asked a question. Literally the nicest, most interesting, and most helpful professor I've had in my five years at BCC. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. 3 writing assignments. If you have the option, definitely take him.

hes an easy prof, he gets the students view textbook is cheap like 40 bucks. hes boring we just review and analyze writing. writing papers are easy he offers rewrites for a higher grade. nice guy just show up to class

Originally, I hated books. Today, there not so bad. Dr. Tomko's style of teaching was very pleasant and wonderful providing both knowledge of the subject as well as personal insight. Originally I had the utmost contempt for the man in receiving my first graded essay. It was a reality check, I'd like to thank you.

Dr. Tomko is the best professor in BCC. He assigns 4 essays and lets you revise each one. I'm not one for writing research papers, but the way Dr. Tomko does it, I love it! He breaks it down in different sections, so it does not seem like you are writing a 7-10 page paper. There is no better person to have as the head of the english Dpt.I <3 him!

I took both 101 and 201 classes from him. He is one of the best professors i've ever had. Easy, extremely orginized, and fair. Take him and youll learn a lot from his lectures. Classes pass super fast.

Dr. Tomko only assigns two reflection essays during Summer Sessions. No research or direct quotes are required for these but you must submit them to turnitin.com. He gives several quizzes and leads engaging conversations on class materials. You need quite a strong command of the material to do well on his midterm and final. Grading relatively fair

I met Dr. Tomko in TESC's LIT 206 Spring 2013. There's nothing the usual about his class. He was gracious and painstaking in helping students write their best. Don't have many complaints about this class, the only thing that was difficult was the research paper. He didn't explain it very well and even when I asked for extra clarity on it, it still wasn't clear to me but I didn't want to bother and ask again. Other than that it's an easy class, essays are quick and painless if you read the articlestory.

I must say, he's an awesome professor! I'd watch for the research paper. It's tough but not THAT bad. He seems a little political and not too much of a fan of religion so, personally, I was a bit uncomfortable. But very RARELY does he make those comments. All in all this guys a great teacher. Really no complaints. I'd recommend him for any class!

Dr. Tomko truly loves his job & it comes through in how he teaches. The more you read and participate, the more you see him light up & the discussions can take over the class which is fun! He has high expectations but is willing to guide through any questions you have. He does share his politics/religious views so make sure you're thick skinned.

Dr. Tomko is a wonderful professor who is always prepared and willing to assist students who are struggling. His class is quite challenging, but I have learned so much and I am grateful for that. Also, his two papers are very clear on what he expects, but his two exams are slightly difficult and time consuming. Other than that, he is just fabulous!

Loved Professor Tomko. The class is well laid out with assignments and expectations clearly defined. You can revise the first 3 essays and the different components of the research paper to better your grade. He wants you to do well and Is very entertaining! Great dry sense of humor and super easy-going. Very specific about what he wants but his rules are simple and reasonable. Participate frequently in class to get on his good side. Amazing professor! Just read the material and you will pass the class. There are many quizzes that are extremely easy and as said before- read the material and you will pass the class. 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 papers, extra credit, quizzes, and he also lets you revise the papers and get a better grade.

You can't do poorly unless you simply don't do the assigned homework. If you don't hand in an assignment, he lets you hand it in during the class lecture. He is a great teacher and really goes into depth with everything he teaches. He is always available after class for help and answers all questions. He truly cares about your success in writing.

Basically three essays and a 5-7 page Research Paper, with some class participation work thrown in. Just watch your due dates and show up, and you'll pass.

When I got all the Shakespeare books I was afraid, I love to read but this was too much and I loved every single one thanks to this professor. He is funny and clear on what we have to get done, as long as you're in class and read you will be fine, quizzes are easy if you read. Midterm and final review helps a ton but being in class!

Dr. Tomko is one of the best professors I've had at BCC. His lectures are amazing and his sarcastic humor makes the class enjoyable. You have to read a couple of stories or poems for each class; there are 2 essays, the midterm, the final test, and a bunch of easy quizzes. He's very accessible outside class and wants to help you as much as he can.

You can spark note the readings before class and get an A on the quizzes. He thoroughly explains each reading which is great because some of them aren't easy. The midterm was a little hard but he gives you most of what's on it and grades leniently. He's really sarcastic and easy going.

It's obvious that he loves his job. I'm an international student and whenever we asked something about the English language he would explain it until we understood. He is very friendly and I miss his good vibes now that we are in quarantine.

He's the first professor I've had at BBC give actual, genuine feedback. He's also a ridiculously quick grader and he clearly cares about his job and what he teaches. One of my favorite professors!!

I took him for WRT 101 and he's really a great professor. He's clear on what he wants and he's fast at responding to emails. He may be a bit of a tough grader, but he gives great feedback so you can improve next time. I would really take him again. He's the best

One of my favorite professors ever! Class was at 8 am, but Prof Tomko's lectures were fascinating/engaging enough to get me out of bed. Not too many writing assignments and he gives you lots of options. I opted out of in-class exams by writing a longer paper. There's a lot of reading, but that's expected for the course topic.

Best professor at Bergen. Tomkos lectures were very interesting, always made rough due dates, which the due dates were always flexible. He is very understanding and when asking for extensions he never questions why. I would take him over and over if i could !!!!

Professor Tomko is very understanding if you asked for/needed an extension. The midterm was more difficult than the final, in my opinion; that being said, the grading was fair. Didn't submit an essay and still got a B+ in the class... so be no means a tough grader. Go to class and take notes, a lot of what he says will help on the exams.

Professor Tomko gives great feedback on the essays you write. He's also a fantastic teacher and tries facilitating a comfortable learning environment. He's also very approachable and participating in discussions does matter.
