He is a amazing instructor. If you just go to class and take good notes on his lectures you will do great in his class. I?m a senor and he was the best instructor I have ever had.
Fantastic lecturer. Knows his stuff and communicates clearly. Very interesting and helpful. Looked forward to his class every day. Great review sesstions. Very fair exams.
Fantastic teacher! I took this class in the summer session and I wish I would've taken this class during a fall or spring semester. He knows what he's talking about and I thoroughly enjoyed going to his class.
Excellent professor, best I've ever had. If you are a history major, you should take this class. You need to go to class and read (as usual), and it is a lot of work, but he is hilarious, enjoyable, clear, and very friendly and helpful. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS!! I have only the best things to say about him- fantastic professor and great class!
GREAT CLASS.
One of the best professors I have ever had, even if you are not a History major you would still love this class. Hopefully he will be able to have more classes. Reminds me of Conan Obrien.
Best professor I have ever had. Easy to talk to and funny to listen to. Go to class and review sessions and you will pass with FLYING colors.
Dr. T is an awesome prof! As long as you attend class, take good notes, and read the books, you'll be fine. He's super helpful when it comes to the papers and his review sessions are great. I also suggest going to his extra Alamo lecture if you can. It's not required but very interesting.
Awesome Professor. He is a fantastic lecturer, you wont even want to miss his classes. Go to the review sessions, and ask for help on the papers. He helps you understand what the point of history is. 3 essay exams, and 2 papers which are both argumentative, persuasion. A few books are tough to read so stay up with the reading.
Dr. Torget is the best professor at UNT. If you graduate UNT without taking a class from him I feel very sorry for you.
This is one of the best professors. His lectures are up beat and interesting. He has 4-6 books but they are easy reads. Take notes and go to review session and you will make an A.
Dr. Torget's passion for teaching is clear in how he invests his time in his students on a one-on-one basis and teaches to the masses all at once. Torget's style of teaching with powerpoint (Outline, then pictures & no real text) makes his lessons actually effective. This method also ensures students listen to what he says and promotes attendance.
This professor is really cool. Makes history really entertaining and you can tell he loves to teach.
I love this class! I recommend this whether you're interested in History or not, he makes it fun and easy to understand. He isn't exactly hard on the eyes either.
Prof. Torget is a remarkable teacher. He's really into the subject and explains it well. American Legacies book was the only one we used. Our T.A. David Park assisted in writing it- the T.A.'s offer a LOT of help as well. Go to the S.I sessions if you want an A+. Really worth taking his class- trust me. I'm getting a minor thanks to him.
Dr. Torget is the BEST prof I have ever had (i'm graduating after this semester). The class has been the most fun to attend. You'll never want to miss class. There is some outside reading but its easy. Dr. Torget leads review sessions before every test, he wants you to pass, he wants you to get an A. The most helpful, passionate prof you will take.
Dr. Torget is absolutely incredible. He is charismatic, funny, passionate, and caring...I feel quite fortunate to have gotten him as an instructor. It is very clear that he loves what he does, and that he sincerely wants all of his students to succeed. It's professors like Dr. Torget who make me realize my love for learning and new ideas.
This guy loves what he does, and you can plainly see it. My class had close to 100 students, yet he still managed to keep everyone interested in the subject. He's got a great sense of humor, is easy to understand, but at the same time has the ability to remain on topic and keep the class focused. Just don't ask him about eating Pizza Patron!!
Great teacher, very funny and entertaining!! However, if you have any kind of learning difficulties, you'd better let him know up front. He gives you a review sheet for the weekly exam with a ton of topics to study, and you will be tested on about five of them. Didn't care for that at all, but still can't help but like him.
I'm taking his History 4700 course this summer, so far it's going really great. The book readings seem pretty easy and straight-forward. I was supposed to take History 2610 but it didn't work out with my schedule, really fun and insightful course. On a side note, he's really cute!
One of my favorite professors. Not only does he have a great sense of humor, but he manages to keep the ENTIRE class intrigued and looking forward to the next class. I went in not caring too much about Texas history but came out loving it, one of the best courses of my college career. I HIGHLY recommend taking this course!
Without a doubt my favorite prof. He is extremely passionate not only about the subject he teaches, but also towards the members in his audience, be it a lecture hall of students or a room full of families listening to his annual lecture on the Alamo. He's extremely eloquent, engaging, and well prepared. Very admirable. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Great Instructor!
Definitely take his class if you can! One of the few classes I have really enjoyed going to and regretted missing. He is an excellent speaker and provides a crazy amount of help for students before tests. It's almost impossible to fail this class if you actually care!
Torget is a great teacher! His lectures are highly energetic and engaging, so it makes going to class easier. He normally gives test reviews, and as long as you focus on the significance of each item given, you'll make an A. I defiantly recommend him!
Does not answer email and requires the MOST expensive textbook on the planet-obviously cares very little that students at UNT are paying their way through school.
He's an incredible professor. I had him my freshman year and I even got to sit in at his texas history lecture on the Alamo. I want to take another one of his classes- i recommend you READ THE ARTICLES assigned.
DO NOT LEAVE UNT WITHOUT TAKING A CLASS BY TORGET. BEST PROFESSOR EVER.
Best professor I've ever had. I took his 2620 class as a freshman and it was what helped me decide to major in history. Taking 4700 now as a junior and I still love his lectures. He's hilarious and keeps his classes engaged the entire time. His tests are really hard but he gives you tons of warning and always has great review sessions.
Prof Torget is awesome! His classes are so interesting & packed with information that you will remember because he presents the subject matter in such a funny and exciting way. Tests are essay and mostly centered around the lectures but usually has one essay from the reading. Books are fairly short reads. Do not leave UNT without taking this class!
BEST PROF AT UNT
Torget is hands down the best professor at UNT. Whether he is talking about John Freakin’ Wayne or Evil Santa, you can tell that he loves what he does, and wants everyone to be as excited as he is. He is such a great lecturer, that you will highly regret missing any class. Plus, he is easy to look at as well. Do not miss taking this class!!!!!
Yes, he is a great teacher and makes class very interesting. But he is very hard when it comes to grading. His tests are 4 essay questions, and there are 2 papers as well. He offers help however he can and will read papers before-hand to get feedback. If you study HARD, read the materials, and have him look over your papers, you will do fine.
I had to drop this class because of my schedule and the many hours this class requires of you. Dr. Torget is an amazing guy and professor, but I do caution you that this is not an easy class at all. Very interesting class, but be warned that this class will require a lot out of you.
He is one of the best history teachers at UNT! His tests are easy if you go to the review sessions. The papers are a little bit difficult, but if you start early enough, there is no problem getting a good grade. He is willing to meet with you and answer any questions you have and he works with you. He is REALLY enthusiastic and entertaining.AWESOME
Great class, enjoyed it a lot, but...he and his TA sidekick grade too hard on essays and papers. He spends a lot of time on what is missing in your paper as opposed to what is in it, and do you have the concept, is it obvious the material was read. Also, a classmate did not read one of the books, I did and a lower grade. Take the class, be ready.
Dr. Torget is knowledgeable and his lectures are more entertaining than boring, but as a Texan born citizen it makes me cringe when he describes every single action made by our Texas Fathers as idiotic and dumb. He's more concerned with telling a joke then accurately describing the material. Be prepared to write a 8 page paper.
Dr. Torget is the most amazing professor I have ever had! He has so much energy and passion for this class that you can't help but love it! He does review sessions HIMSELF and will basically tell you everything you need to include on you essay questions. He will read anything you give and tries SUPER to help you! I <3 Dr. Torget.
Amazing. Took him my first semester at UNT, and at that time I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a history major, but damn he is awesome. Very clear lectures, read the books and go to class and you're golden. 1 term paper these days and 3-4 major tests that consist of 1 essay from lecture, 1 book, and 2 explanation terms. Take his course.
Extremely knowledgable and his class is SO entertaining. He's extremely enthusiastic and makes the class fun. Lectures are necessary, but never boring! 3 big exams and 1 paper. He and his awesome TA's are very, very helpful and want you to do well. Grades fairly and will do anything he can to help you do great in his class! TAKE DR. TORGET'S CLASS!
This is hands down the best class I have taken at UNT. Dr. Torget is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. The class isn't terribly difficult if you do the readings and attend lectures. He is very helpful and approachable!
Dr. Torget is so great. The best teacher I've had in college. The class is super entertaining and never boring which is a plus. Attendance is not required but is important since lectures are not posted online. Dr. Torget is really helpful and wants you to do well in his class! TAKE HIS CLASS
Dr. Torget is an amazing professor! It's not an easy class, but he offers all the help in the world in order for you to get a A in the class. Lectures are highly entertaining! I would recommend for non-history majors to take him as well.
I really liked his teaching style. Essays were a bit hard, but I could have put in more effort and gotten a better grade.
He is the most amazing professor ever. His lectures are very entertaining. I was upset that I had to miss two of them due to being out of town and sick. He gives review sessions before the tests which are very beneficial. Dr. Torget goes out of his way to make everybody in his class successful.
Dr. Torget is hands down the best professor I've ever had. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches that you can't help but be drawn in. He goes above and beyond to help you do well in the class if you didn't get a good grade, you very likely didn't try at all. I'd recommend everyone take his class, you won't regret it.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. You have to got to class everyday and take good notes, but he has very thorough review sessions over his exams. There are no tricks or surprises. All of his exams are essay exams which are not hard. You have plenty of time, and it is really easy because he is so passionate about what he is teaching!
Best proff. EVER .. Take him during summer term... Dont need to buy books, no papers to write, just go to class. study the review and You will do great.
3 exams that include 2 ID's and one essay and 2, 5-6 page research papers. books are a must. this class requires work but Dr. Torget holds review sessions for the exams with are essential. He is more than willing to meet with you if you should need help. His lectures are amazing and he is a very passionate speaker. with lots of studying I got an A.
BEST PROF EVER!!!!! Very enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will have no problem passing. He even gives review sessions before the exams where he will go through every possible essay question and tell you what he wants to see. Amazing man.
Dr. Torget is by far the best professor I've had in my four years at UNT. He is a fantastic lecturer, as well as an extremely accessible and helpful source of guidance who goes above and beyond to help his students. His tests are by no means easy, but so long as you show up to class, you'll do great.
Every other professor I had after him has been a bitter disappointment just because of how high Dr. Torget set the bar. Very intelligent, great lecturer, hilarious, and even in a class of 150 people, you will get an entire letter written by him or his TAs, giving you honest feedback on your paper. Seriously. Take his class.
If you attend class, take notes during lecture and pay attention you should make an A. Dr. Torget is not only a fantastic teacher but extremely passionate about the material. I'm not a history major by any means and the class was very interesting to me. Would strongly recommend.
Dr. Torget was an excellent professor and one of my favorite professors i have while at UNT. Going to his class was a treat, he is very passionate about his subject and is always in a good mood. Torget has review sessions before every exam, go these reviews and you will receive everything you need on the exam to get an A.
He is awesome. I wouldnt say the class is super easy but as long as you ask for help and show up everyday you will be fine. I love love love Andrew.
Best professor ever! Every lecture is like hearing a story. He breaks it down in a way that is understandable and relevant to the here and now. The papers are easy if you start ahead of time and the tests are clear cut. If you study you will do fine.
This class provided a magnificent overview of Texas history. From Palo Duro Canyon to Galveston, we covered everything. Anybody who is interested in Texas history/politics will find this class to be valuable. Better hurry up and take this class before Dr. Torget is a famous historian teaching in the Ivy League.
Hands down, the best professor I've taken in all my years in college. He is a master of his craft. Deeply caring and passionate, possibly more so about his students than his profession. Incredibly energetic, funny, and engaging with students. You won't find another professor like Torget, you just won't. UNT is lucky to have him, enough said.
The BEST professor I have ever had at UNT. He loves what he does and it can clearly be seen through his amazing lectures. He explains history in such a compelling way. Going to class was more like story time. If i was guaranteed to have him as an instructor for all my classes, Id switch majors.
Dr. Torrey is amazing! He is full of energy and excitement over the subject. The only grades in the class are 4 exams but you get credit just for showing up to class. If you get the chance to take him, do it!
LOVED having Dr. Torget for history. He was sooo much fun and you could tell he really cared about his work and about the students understanding each topic. Each lecture was more like story time and I looked forward to every class. I would recommend him to anyone and I'll definitely look at taking one of his classes again! TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Hated to miss lectures both because I actually enjoyed them in his class and because I'd be really lost next class. He covers a lot of material quickly, but is very clear (about the material and grading criteria) and more than willing to go the extra mile to help his students. Most inspirational professor I've ever had.
Professor Torget is the most caring professor I have ever had. He is ALWAYS willing to help. Go to review sessions! he goes over the entire review. This class is not easy, but he is a fair grader. You need the chapter books for the papers, main textbook is optional. Loved his lectures!
Jumps around at the beginning of every lecture and a very easy grader. Most fun professor and makes TX History fun.
Best history professor I've ever had! I wouldn't call this class an easy A, but I would say that an A is completely possible due to Torget. He holds an extensive review session for students, is willing and encourages students to send in rough drafts, and provides valuable feedback on papers and tests. He's a fantastic professor and person.
Torget is my absolute favorite history teacher here at UNT. Sadly, he was the first history class I took here and no one since has come close to having nearly as good of a class as him. Strongly recommend him; take his class if you can!
Dr. Torget is a straight forward guy. He outlines exactly what he wants and gives you the resources and help to succeed. I would take another class with him.
Dr. Torget is an amazing professor. He is very intelligent and respected. His class is challenging, but you will learn so much. He;s really fun too!
Dr. Torget was by far my favorite history professor I have ever had ! He is very straight forward as to what he wants; he literally gives you all the tools to pass. The class consists of lectures only with only five grades (3 written tests and 2 papers). Dr Torget is hilarious and very passionate about Texas History. Would STRONGLY recommend taking
History is all about passion, and this teacher does not lack passion. Possibly one of the best teachers i've ever had
Only professor I've had whose final lecture for the semester was met with applause. All the students loved him, and he made a class of 200 people seem like a class of 30. He's such a good speaker that I never wanted to skip class. Recommended.
Dr. Torget is a fantastic professor. His reflection of history lives through him. Going to class is mandatory, otherwise you'll be lost on the test. He gives essay test, but he has a review session that is a major bonus. The papers are difficult, but it is just because you have to search for sources. Although it was hard, it was worth it.
Dr. Torget has by far been my favorite professor. He is very clear on grading expectations. The reviews are what will give you an A in the class because he outlines the essays for you exactly how he wants them. I enjoyed going to this class and I really learned a lot. He really cares about his students and their grades.
LOVE Proff. Torget. Hes really cool and is ALWAYS willing to help you improve in the class. I will definitely take his class again!!! For the class u need to show up, take notes, review, do your work on time and you will pass. This class is not easy but its so worth it. I never had a proff who was passionate about what they were teaching.
Dr. Torget is an outstanding professor that earnestly cares about each one of his students. He truly wants everyone to succeed and will help you if you just ask. Hes very understanding and easy to work with. His tests are essay format, but theyre easy to make an A on if you do the the review that he gives you.
Dr. Torget is hands down the greatest professor I have ever had the privilege to be taught by. His lectures are so entertaining! He is a very funny man and knows how to relate to students. He goes out of his way to help students and provide feedback and he is genuinely caring for everyone. You can't be bored in his class.
He lectures for the whole class time. His lectures are fun to listen to, and very easy to take notes of. When something is very important he will tell you to write it down.
Amazing professor, you wont find a better Texas history professor. He passionate about the topic he teaches and is extremely approachable. You do have do do research with newspapers so theres that, but stay on top of everything and not only will you pass you'll have a new found love for Texas history.
If you're a history major at UNT and you have the opportunity to take his class, take it. You're going to have to work in his class, but no more than should be expected in an upper level course. He's probably the best professor I've ever had in college.
Dr. Torget is an amazing professor and an amazing human being. I struggled with my mental health during the semester I had him for class, and attending his lectures was a source of joy for me. He is a genuinely compassionate man who cares about his students. His lectures were interesting and hilarious. Take his class, you will not regret it!
AMAZING prof. If I could have him teach all of my classes I would. He truly cares about his students and understands that there are things happening in people's lives besides school. There isn't a textbook, but multiple small books that are actually interesting to read. He shows up to every single class energetic and excited to teach.
He is very passionate about teaching and strives to give informative lectures. Also gives good feedback on all papers and exams. Be prepared to read. Assigns about 5 books a semester
He is very passionate about the subject, so his lectures are amazing. We had a free online textbook available, but the notes I took in class were the most valuable tool for me. I looked forward to this class each week and learned so much from him. Graded over 4 tests, 3 short writings, and 1 required signature assignment essay.
Dr. Torget is an amazing professor who knows how to make Texas history into a thrilling story with every lecture. This semester, he opted out of using textbooks and assigned articles he provided for the reaction papers, and use the database to read virtual newspapers for the investigation papers. Anyone will enjoy taking this class.
I took Dr. Torget's class as a freshman and am now a senior. I came back to leave a review because he is hands down the best lecturer I have had in my time here at UNT. If you have the chance to take him, please do. Seems like a good man all around and knows how to keep students interested.
Favorite Professor of all time, hands down.
Dr. Toget is the best educator I've ever had. I have been privileged enough to take 3 consecutive courses with him over the past year, and I'm saddened that I won't be able to take another course with him for my last semester. He's great at giving feedback and his lectures are engaging and informative. You'd be a fool to not take his class. Onward!
He is an amazing lecturer and one of the best professors at UNT. I'm sad I have only been able to take this class of his, if had the ability to take any more of his classes I would. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches about. If you have the chance to take his classes, do.
The reviews don't lie, I'm a senior and Dr. Torget is the best professor I have had throughout college. He's funny, knowledgeable and he truly has passion for what he teaches. All assignments are essays, but attend class, pay attention to the material and you'll do fine.
Alot of writing but graded easy
Dr.Torget is the best professor I have had in my college career. He makes coming to class worth it and I commuted 40 minutes for class. He is very funny and knowledgable of the material he is sharing. I cant stress enough how much he is worth the pick. Show up to class because he offers extra credit for just showing up. You cant go wrong w him!
Read the textbook and study.
Dr. Torget was a great professor. His lecture style was very engaging and entertaining while he connected fairly complex ideas together. The only downsides to his class were a lack of clear criteria for the in-person exams and his inflexibility if you were sick or otherwise couldn't attend a lecture.
Dr. Torget is easily in my top 3 of professors, you can tell he teaches for the love of it. Powerpoints were picture heavy and you need to listen to what he's saying but he makes sure to let you know what will be on exams. He was awesome would switch my major for him
Prof. Torget is a fun, upbeat, and concise professor! Attending lectures is not required, but you will not get the info. you need without them. He is great at connecting the dots in U.S. history, and able to explain it in a way that is easy to follow, while also providing great detail. I highly recommend his class!
I can not say enough good things about Torget. He truly cares about his students and teaches with a deep appreciation for the material. This was one class I looked forward to going to each week. If you can take a class with him, please do!
Some of the most engaging lectures I have ever listened to. There were points where I was upset over missing a class because of how good he is at keeping students engaged and how he tells the story of whatever he is lecturing on. If you have any opportunity to take please do, you won't regret it.
Professor Torget is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had, his lectures are amazing, and I was sad that I had to miss one his lectures. The exam questions are given in advance, and there are fun projects where you look at newspapers and decide what was the most important thing during that time. Amazing professor, made class very fun
Overall one of my favorite professors. Genuinely cares about students and what he's teaching.
This professor is great! i do feel like his TA grades a little strictly (she does all the grading). If you don't show up to class, you won't do good, but luckily his lectures are not boring. He seems very passionate about what he is teaching. I would recommend him to a friend.
