cursed with the hardest class at JCU, but very nice, knows every student's name
The class in itself is very hard, but Dr. Welki is probably the best teacher there is at John Carroll. He is extremely friendly and really wants to help every student. If you keep up on your homework, all the problems, the class will not be too hard.

Hard class, but awesome prof.
first semester he was alright, second semester he became the devil himself and decided to stop teaching... argh, this clss just sucks
The hardest business class out there, but if you have him you will learn the material and the final will be easy.
I had absolutely no problem with him. Be sure to do the homework well and you should be fine.
Awesome teacher, Hard class...he is very helpful though, as long as you go to class, do the homework, and show that you try, he will pass you. He's great
Welki is a great man. I think he is not as tough as people say he is. I have had little trouble with the exams. The best thing about him is the way he makes fun of people. He rips on people all the time in a way that makes everyone laugh, but doesn't hurt anyone's feelings.
Dr. Welki is the best!!! He is the coolest and funniest teacher I've ever had. His class is kind of hard. There's alot of work, always homework and the tests are hard, but he is soooo helpful. All you have to do is ask him for help and he'll help you tremendously! Take him!
Great guy. You learn a lot of stuff, but the material is by no means easy. Do well on the homework and then you can screw up the exams and still get a B.
Great guy...lots of fun
Great guy!! class can be a little unpredictable, but overall it's been a good time.
Best teacher ever! Tests are hard but he s soo haelpful
Excellent Professor! Cares about his students, and is always in his office for help. Homework is given daily and is worth doing to do well and understand in class. Has practice exams online and can use them and ANYTHING else on the test and EVEN the FINAL EXAM;including notes and book. No Joke! Exams are HARRD, so be sure to study hard and well!
He doesn't actually teach statistical concepts. He does one or two examples and expects that you can then do every and any example after that. Most difficult class in BSOB, not challanging just difficult to get through.
He is pretty good. You learn the concepts without knowing that you are all the time. He is extemely helpful!
Great guy! One of the nicest and most helpful you can find. He teaches from examples, but the examples mimic the problems on the test, so when you see a problem like it, you know what you're doing. Don't know who else I would take over Welki.
He wont ever fail anyone. His tests are impossible but the hw is super easy. I reccomend him he is so helpful and friendly but his tests just suck.
Dr. Welki is one of the best professors at John Carroll. He is a nice, funny guy who uses great examples in class to teach the material. His tests are a bit rough, but they are always open book and notes. I recommend taking him, it's a class I never skipped.
took him for stats 1 & 2 and he is an awesome person, just not easy. definitely have to pay attention and practice over and over on your own, open book tests but still be VERY familiar with ALL material before test!! Not an easy class by any means but a great guy, probably would take him again because he's so nice even though the class is hard
I was incredibly impressed with this professor. He is willing to come to JCU on the weekends or even at 7 or 8 at night to give review sessions before a test. Material taught is relevant to exams, but you need to be able to think outside the box to do well. Dr. Welki is very personable and wants to help you learn.
I took him for business stats. The class and material is very tough, but he is always willing to help you anyway he can.
this class is extremely hard. there is hw every day, & the tests are IMPOSSIBLE. they are too long to finish in time, & there's always material on them that was not covered. Welki is nice enough, but it's so frustrating that he teaches that way, & there is no curve or extra credit. it sucks.
my favorite teacher i ever had. such a nice guy. just go to class and copy down all the notes and u should do alright. tests r very tough but u get retakes
He's a nice guy & good at explaining the material. however, exams are impossible, even if it makes perfect sense in class & when you do the homework.
His class is extremely difficult. There is H/W alomst every class and the tests are IMPOSSIBLE to finish on time! However, Dr. Welki is willing to go above and beyond to help his students learn. He also offers the 'C Contract', but don't be fooled, it's A LOT of EXTRA work! At least it's available, though. Most professors would never do that...
Worst teacher i have ever had DO NOT TAKE if you can help it
He is a VERY nice guy and very willing to help you, but his class is awful. It is so hard, and he doesn't teach the material in class before he gives you homework. It is almost impossible to pass his class.
Welki, is extremely hard, but at the same time extremely helpful. what makes him hard is the work you have to put into the class to get a good grade. he explains things, but you have to know how to apply them to the class....keep in mind he does have a C contract, but it is because there is a lot of stuff that is hard to understand.
He is a very hard teacher. Grades papers harder than english professors do. But, a very nice man. He tends to over analyze everything that is said in class. Overall a decent teacher.
Tests are really difficult, but there are other things to counterbalance them. Awesome prof, explains everything really well, always willing to help.
Very nice professor. Take him. SOmetimes unclear, but he has so called homework happy hours, where you can come in and ask anything that's unclear. Attend classes, take good notes, study a little a you'll be fine.
I really don't know why everyone thinks he's a good professor, he's not. I worked my butt off to get a B-. I understand business stats is a hard subject by itself, but he didn't teach it well.
Great guy. Class is pretty easy. Maybe I am just a genius but I never had any issue finishing his tests. Prepare sheets with formulas for tests and it will be a breeze.
Terrible teacher; would not take him again no matter what.
Terrible teacher. Nothing else to say.
Best teacher you will ever have. Review lessons after class and ask questions when they come up. The class is challenging, but far from impossible. Dr. Welki is the funniest and nicest person, and is always more than ready to help in any way. STUDY for the exams several days prior and it'll be easy. No reason not to get an A, don't listen to others
I took EC 207, which is a first time class, and he didn't teach us anything for the packets. We would spend hours beyond hours trying to figure out what to do. Every time you would ask for help, he wasn't available. If you can find him for help, he can explain things to you--but all of that should be done in class, which it was not.
Great teacher, very helpful!
RUN. His tests are literally impossible and you will fail. He may appear helpful at first, but he never explains anything properly and his classes confused things even more. THIS MAN IS IMPOSSIBLE
Extremely hard!
Very hard class. He is a good teacher one of my favorites. His exams are harder than any other professor teaching the course.
do not take this class. Welki makes his tests impossible. regular tests are 12 pages long, I know people who have never finished a test. However, he will go out of his way to help you, but there is almost no way to score well on tests. avoid..
Lots of hw that he doesnt tell you about just posts online and expects you to check. Grades assignments hard at times but tests are easy. Will help you a lot. Class is just discussion based.
He does not give any tests. However, he gives you packets of problems that take a significant amount of time. He is a great guy that talks about life and moral lessons, but fails to talk about key concepts within the packet.
1. The material itself is easy, but he presents it in a way that is not always understandable. 2. There are things he teaches in the class that are not in the textbook but he expects you to know it for tests. 3. The test would be manageable if they were straight forward, which they are not. 4. He is more helpful outside of class then in class.
The material is tough and the tests are difficult to finish. Fortunately, there is much opportunity to make up for poor test scores. Getting an A requires a lot of work.
He is not the professor you want to take for EC 208. There are better prof's out there
He's great. Yes he's difficult but if I could go back in time, I'd take him for 208 again because it made me love statistics and actually UNDERSTAND what I'm doing when I work on stats. He doesn't want you to be a robot and follow steps, but think about your work. Work fast on tests, but I always thought the re-tests were easier. And go to class!
Amazing teacher, really cares about his students. However when its time to sit down for the test don't expect much. They are long and very hard. He allows every test to be open notes , open anything, you can literally bring whatever you want to the test to help you. He does this because the tests are so hard and you will still fail.
Really nice guy and definitely helps you if you go to office hours. Tests are very hard, but he lets you retake them with notes so its definitely not impossible. Be prepared to work hard and talk to him frequently very kind-hearted human being and my favorite JCU professor
Very good teacher. Cares about his students and wants all of his students to pass. Tests are hard but you are allowed to retake them with notes. Going in to see him during office hours really helps. If i had to take another stats class I would want him as my teacher.
An awesome professor. He's always there to help you when you need it. Definitely go to his Homework Happy Hours because they help you a lot and they help you to get to know him better. His tests are really long, though, so make sure to organize your notes (all tests are open book!) and work fast! Take him!!!
One of the best professors, if not the best I have had. Always willing to help. He really cares about his students. Tests are tough, but if you study up you will be fine. I would recommend him because you actually learn the material and if you show that you care, he will look out for you
Overall a good professor, we did not have tests/quizzes for this class, points are based on homework, hosts a homework happy hour which is a must!
Dr. Welki is one of the best and most respected professors at John Carroll. He is always on campus and you see him every where. He is quick witted and tough, but he knows everyone's name and is very friendly. However, you can not pass his class without putting in 100%. Do the C contract even if you think you will get an A. It will only benefit you.
Dr. Welki means well, but his tests are impossible to finish. The class is given 50 minutes to finish a 10 page test. If you are not a great test taker do not take this class. I am a great test taker but was in the D range for all 3.
Did the homework with a couple of other students which made the material more manageable. Fair grader. This isn't a full semester class so just make sure the work is always handed in and on time.
If you go to class and show you are trying, you are guaranteed to pass. He is always willing to help out, but you need to go to Happy Hour for the homework if you want to get a feel for what the tests are going to be like. Also, sign the C contract, the extra homework is worth the safety net.
This man dispenses a lot of knowledge in a very fast manner and it's next to impossible to keep up. EC210 with him is the most stressful thing I've ever done. Avoid this man at all costs or you will cry like me.
I am currently enrolled in this class and it is the hardest class I have ever taken. Tests are insanely difficult. Be ready to do group work for every homework assignment and quiz because you will not understand the material without it. You will probably get a C in this class no matter what.
Dr. Welki is very knowledgeable but he goes very fast in class making the class difficult. Office hours daily are almost mandatory to understand the material and he is always available for extra help. I would recommend him because he's the stats chair and makes all the exams and tells you whats on them. You have to work hard to just get a C
Welki is a well respected professor. His class is very difficult so be prepared for a lot of homework and studying. He does provide a C contract but make sure you follow all the requirements carefully. If you are having trouble with his class, he is very accessible and holds "homework happy hours" multiple times during the week to help you.
He is the hardest teacher I have ever had. Whatever you do, do NOT take his class.
Hardest class I have ever taken. His communication regarding grading through emails is unclear. I wouldn't be taking his class if there was another option. His communication while lecturing is also unclear and does not seem to have any real direction.
Please sign the C contract. Hardest class I've ever taken. Lectures were difficult to follow and tests were absolutely terrible. Welki is a nice guy, but as a professor, I'd say he's just alright. Eventually some stuff made sense, but I constantly had to email him when doing homework assignments because the homework was always different than class.
Most respected professor on campus! Gives out decent amount of homework, feedback on paper was VERY limited, but ALWAYS made himself available outside for questions. Used the book minimally, and VERY test heavy. Thankfully, there is a C contract. He makes you a better student no matter your grade.
Still currently in his class with a low B. take his class over all the other stats teachers. he has HW happy hours that help a lot and you can use resources on the test like notes and a laptop. he sets you up for success you just have to work hard to get an A. Ask questions and he will be more than willing to help.
This class is a real bear, so hard and so in depth. Dr. Welki presents the material so well though. Although most students never passed an exam, they still were able to get Cs in the class. If you can manage to pass a couple exams with 70s, then your looking a B if not an A.
Welki is a good dude, his class makes him seem like he is mean though. Homework took me hours (just to copy down!), tests are a waste of your time and unnecessarily hard, class is a snooze fest, overall hardest course i've ever taken. To anyone who willingly signs up for this class, you should check yourself into a mental hospital! Have fun!
His lectures can be very tiresome but it is super important to pay attention to them and take lots of notes. His class is by far one of the hardest classes at JCU, you will have to work hard for a good grade. He offers a lot of opportunities for students to get help with homework so take advantage of that. All around he is super nice guy!
Very mixed bag. Class is the hardest thing I've taken, made myself sick with worries about failing it. But he genuinely makes efforts to help students understand, goes above and beyond in terms of office hours. His exams though show an issue when over half the class fails them. Material is just different enough to throw you off and wind up with 58%
For the graduate level this is a difficult vague class. If you can learn stats by reading a text book go for it. Undergrads receive WAY more instruction and help than the grad students. You essentially read the book, try and do the home work, and then come to class with questions for him. 0 lecture 0 notes doesnt teach hes just a question answer'er
Took this class online, and there was no lecture. Just textbook readings and work problems to submit about once a week. Professor Welki is very responsive though to any questions you have and will meet with you if you need help. If you want to get a good grade, he will help you do that.
Dr. Welki might be the worst teacher I have ever had. Gives insane amount of HW. Grades harder than any teacher I have ever had. You already know you will fail his tests before you even take them. If you don't sign the C contract good luck passing. If you don't do everything on the C contract he will fail you.
I had Dr. Welki for the online/one credit business stats course. He really doesn't teach at all, you have to use the textbook and other resources to teach yourself. The assignments are challenging and time consuming. I will say though, if you email him or go see him and ask questions, he will help you more than you expect!
Does a good job of explaining the complex concepts in an easy to understand way. However, the course is incredibly difficult, exams are near impossible, homework is given on a weekly basis. Available outside of class and genuinely wants his students to succeed, he'll help in anyway possible as long as he sees effort is being put in. Good guy.
He is a great professor and cares about students. If you email him he responds within the hour, and puts time aside for questions.
Philosopher, lectures don't match the material. Too smart for his own good. Greeeaaatttt guy though. 10/10 person. you'll do fine if you see him during office hours
this was probably the hardest JCU class I've ever taken but Welki is a great professor. You will see him around campus 24/7 and will always be available to talk to. Emails back are fast and will help every student no mater the grade you have.
Take this professor if you are a hard worker!!! This professor is one of the best people at the University and everybody knows that. You will hear bad things about this class and that "it's so hard" but it's really just 100% an effort class and very manageable. Do the homework, go to office hours, get tutored, and you will be successful.
Dr. Welki is a great guy for a rigorous course, be sure to do the C contract or you will most likely fail. There are 3 exams and final open notes, manage your time wisely. Answer the question even if you don't know it, you will still obtain points even if it's completely wrong. Example answered Yes to a question got half points.
Dr. Welki is a great guy and good teacher. This class is the hardest class I've ever taken in my life simply because of the amount of work you have to do in order to well. Makes it easier and simpler, but given 50 minutes to complete 8 pages of work is almost impossible. Answer every question given, points are given for attempting the problem.
Great professor but tests are super long and very difficult. This is a hard class in general but it could be better if tests were on what was learned in class and homework
Dr. Welki is an amazing person and he is very knowledgeable about the content he teaches but prepare for this course is very difficult. It is extremely important to form a relationship with him and take advantage of the resources he provides and "homework happy hour." Dr. Welki honestly wants the best for you and tries to help you in any way.
I took the one-credit stats class and I had to drop it. The grade is based on 6 group assignments and a final. No one in my assigned groups ever had the textbook or knew what they were doing. Stats tutors were basically useless because the class is completely Excel-based. Grades were never returned. Online math is impossible.
Sign the C Contract!!
Very wholesome overall, but it is a lot of work and there are some assignments he doesn't tell you about. I would recommend watching all the videos he suggests and reading the book. SIGN THE C CONTRACT :)
One of the top teachers, class is very rewarding. If you study hard and pay attention it pays off. A great guy to know and will look out for you in the future. Do not fall behind, because it is very fast paced.
I highly recommend this class. Doctor Welki is one of the most engaging professors I have ever had. I recommend reading the textbook before hand and taking notes before coming to class and you will be on the right track. If you work hard you iwll be fine. The tests are long but it is easy to finish all of them and you can use any technology.
Professor Welki runs a challenging but rewarding course. The workload is intense, so definitely sign the C Contract and utilize all resources, including the free textbook and unstuck study for efficient study prep. Stay engaged, and you'll learn a lot.
He is an amazing guy, but this class is horribly taught. He expects you to know hard topics on your own and he does not explain them. His tests are impossible and does not give you nearly enough time to finish. He expects you to know really hard concepts without explaining them. He also gives a lot of homework. SIGN THE C CONTRACT
"Oodles & Oodles" of fun. Highly recommend environmental econ for an economics elective
the most difficult class i have ever taken
TERRIBLE!! Sign the C contract but take a picture of it so you can reference what you signed. He does not teach the material well. Half of the things he covers in the notes aren't the same as the tests. His tests are SO long and nearly impossible to finish in the allotted time. Great guy, terrible teacher.
