Professor Wilson is the most intelligent and engaging teacher I have ever had. He turns what, for me, was a boring subject in high school into a fascinating analysis of culture, politics, and ideas. It helps that he is really cute!
Dr. Wilson is a very good History teacher. The only time to take his class is at night DWN TWN so that means its a 2hr and 30 min. class... but he does very well during that time and lets you out early. Also his weekly quizes are very straight forward.
So easyyyyyyyy! Very fun, just take notes and review it before class and you'll get an A!!!!!
god i loved his class - always put a smile on my face and lectures were never boring. i'll always remember andy wilson when i think of history at loyola. (and he's a hottie).
He is an awesome teacher. His lectures are fun, his quizess are easy, and his final is simple enough to teach you something you'll never forget. I will never see history the same, because of him. He's the best!
Dr. Wilson is great - take his class, you'll love it.
Great! Focus was Northern Ireland, Yugoslavia and the Basques. Read the interesting books and documents package. Daily quizzes, but very easy. Wonderful lectures, extreme clarity! One paper and essay final, no midterm (at least during summer).TAKE HIM!
Great interesting teacher. Easy quizes and the lectures are insightful, clear and he usually lets class out early for classes that meet once a week. Manly focues on wars of the last three centuries. One paper but you choose the topic.
I hate history but he gets me through it.Great teacher makes it interesting. Just go to class and you will be fine.Quizes from notes and supplement reading never from book.Paper due that is easy and you pick topic.he gives u exam ?no midterm, final on
cool guy. makes material interesting and his accent just makes it better, easy class but you learn
GO TO CLASS, TAKE NOTES, MEMORIZE THEM. STUDY YOUR NOTES BEFORE QUIZZES FOR 20 MIN. LECTURES ARE FUNNY, HE'S COOL,& DOESN'T TRY TO MAKE THINGS DIFFICULT. QUIZZES EVERY OTHER WEEK (SHORT ANSWER), FINAL EXAM & PAPER. AND HIS ACCENT IS SOOOOO SEXXXY!
Excellent professor, interesting lectures and reading material. And a Arsenal fan as well!!
This class is OK, but the quizzes have nothing at all to do with the lecture, just make sure u read the text and the articles and u will do jus fine!
OH YEA!bi-weekly quizes easy, one paper due end of semester, and a final that he tells you what will be on (you choose 2 essay questions from a pool of 8). light studying required. Good to get history over with. Love his accent! Now only if he did the irish jig...
Great Class! Quizzes are directly from his lecture. Take good notes and you also have the readings to help you better understand his lecture. Covers interesting topics. Does not try to cover every bit of history. quiz every other week and one 7-8 page paper on any topic u want. Great prof. for hist.
loved this class! it was so interesting! Quizzes are detailed but read over the notes a couple times before class and you'll be fine. Prof Wilson is awesome
Dr. Wilson is a great guy, his quizzes are straight from the notes and packets. Don't need a book. He also picks interesting topics like siege warfare.
very interesting class. focuses on about 9 major historical events in depth and doesn't cover all of history. lectures are great. easy quizzes and no tests, one paper, and an essay final and you get the questions beforehand.
Great professor! Don't need to buy the book. He gives out handouts so just read those and the lecture notes to study for the quizzes. Awesome history class. He picks very interesting topics.
Wilson is so cute with his little Irish acent. You really don't need to read the book, he gives you a handout packet for each section and just take good notes and basically memorize them for the quizzes. One paper but you have the entire sememster to finish it. Final same as quizzes, 2 questions
Best class I've taken at Loyola, and I'm not even a hist major! Perfect class structure, perfect curriculum. He teaches unique and interesting things like the Vikings and the Scottish instead of boring stuff. Dont buy the book, though, tests are only from lectures and handouts, book is pointless.
Great guy! Decently easy. Quizzes bi-weekly,1 Paper over anything, 1 Final which he gives the questions to. Interesting lectures. Knows everything.
EASY EASY EASY. Just take it if you need a history core, study for 30 mins before each quiz and and maybe 2 hours at max for final and you're golden.
Really interesting course on N.Ireland, Chechnya, and the Basques. He really informed us of the situations. Pretty easy class. Daily quizes on the readings and the last class' lectures were about 50% of the grade. There was a book review and a final (which he gave you the ?s ahead of time.) Take this class b/c he's a makes the class fun.
Fabulous teacher, fascinating class. Very passionate about his subject. Wilson is awesome!
Very cool teacher. This class was the second time I had taken him and he did not dissapoint. Quizes are a little difficult but fair. He is a very enganging speaker and usually ends night class about an hour early. Definitely Take.
Engaging lectures, nice guy, dry sense of humor, wealth of interesting knowledge and tidbits of information. Pay attention in class...quizzes probably only hard if you fall asleep, but you won't. Great professor!
Wilson is awesome! He makes the subject so much more interesting! I actually concidering switching my major! Great guy, wonderful class!
Wilson is fair and delivers his lectures entirely from memory which is impressive. He knows his stuff and is accomodating if you miss class or quizzes. He also grades on a curve, his UK Education and English accent add an intelligent dimension to the class.
OMG!! I'm in love with Professor Wilson!! hes a great teacher! i learned a lot about history taking his course. by far my favorite class..i have even decided to minor in history! great class...and oh yea...his accent...its so cute!!
Prof. Wilson is amazing. His lectures are extremely interesting and the topics he covers are actually useful. Kind of looks like the "BRILLIANT!" guys from the Guinness commercials, which happens to be his favorite beer. I'd take him for every history class if I could.
Great teacher, knolegable but never pretentious. He has a quiz every other week and but tells you what he wants you to know. Book can be helpful but I only used it for the final and the paper. I had a 2 hour night class but it always felt shorter. Take him.
I hated history until I had his class. Great guy, great class format. Easy to keep track of how you are doing. His Irish accent and likeability will have you weak in the knees. Just a humble, knowledgable guy.
Great, great. I took an AP US History in high school & due to some funky transfer situations, I wound really ticked that I had to take this course. H/e I'm glad I did! We even used the same book in H.S., but I learned way more from his lectures than I ever did from the book. Don't even buy it!! His knowledge surpasses anything in the text, by far.
Amazing professor! He is very clear and very helpful. Great looking, as well. Very lovebly accent...I was hipnotize!
Dr. Wilson is very interesting and a great lecturer. I had the class from 7-9:30pm once a week and we got out at like 8:30 every time! He is a fairly tough grader though. That class was my only B all semester. He is great to listen to. Definitely do not buy the book, we maybe were required to read 1 page which never showed up on a quiz/test.
very likable prof., there is a quiz every other week but they are easy, it is directly from the lecture that he gives. there is a final and paper but it is easy because you pick what you want to write about and the final consist of questions that he gives you headed of time to study for. he also makes alcohol references during class
EXCELLENT! INTELLEGENT AND PASSIONATE. I TOOK HIM IN A SUMMER COURSE. NO BOOKS TO BUY. INTRIGUING MAN, SO INTRIGUING CLASS. QUIZZES EVERY CLASS BUT POSSIBLE IF YOU READ PACKETS. AND HIS ACCENT….
Oh, Dr. Wilson. This was my second class with you, and I want a third. Brilliant man, brilliant class. The man doesn't even need notes. Passionate, down-to-earth, friendly, appreciates serious students. Won't cut you any slack but really, if you're interested and hang onto every word (and I don't see how you couldn't with him), you'll get an A.
I've had two classes with the man and let me just say he is far and away the best hist. prof in the school. Wether you're a hist major or just need a hist class TAKE THIS MAN, you will learn alot, and as long as you don't completly skip the reading and pay attention in class (you will, his lectures and AV matierial f'n rock) you'll do just fine.
This was a great class. Wilson really knows his stuff. I could sit through a wednesday night 7-9 class and not lose intrest in his lectures. If you need to take a history class this is the one to take.
I had the night class, and it was never boring at all to me. The material was very interesting, Prof. Wilson is very knowledgable and makes you interested. The videos and other materials we used in the class were all interesting and relevant. We had a quiz every other week (mostly off the notes) and a final research paper. I got an A.
Interesting class, Dr. Wilson is witty and knowledgeable. And you gotta love the accent!
Andy Wilson is the best prof. bar-none. Not only does he make history fun, he's also really laid-back. Quizes cover the material from his lectures, so you have to attend. Very easy and cool person.
Excellent professor! Perfect fit for core. I really enjoyed this course, night class was long and alot of note taking. Quizes every other week - not hard and a paper too. Watched some videos. Think a spark-note version of history w/emphasis on things guys are interested in. The class is was easy and interesting, I strongly recommend him!!!
dr wilson is an awesome professor. its pretty easy and class isnt mandatory but he makes you want to go anyways. highly recommend
THE CUTEST MAN THAT EVER LIVED! Plus a fantastic professor, especially for history! He is not boring but you must show up for class because you take notes almost the whole time. Quizzes every other week from your notes. A final research paper, no midterm. A few movies. He is willing to help in anyway he can. TAKE HIM!!!
Prof. Wilson is amazing. He's nice, funny, and adorable-the kind of teacher you really want to like you. Class is pretty easy, just go, take notes, ask him questions. Quizzes every other class, gave us a pack of documents, didn't buy book, one paper on historical topic of your choice. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Wilson is a fantastic professor who has tremendous enthusiasm for history and belays it to his students using unique at the same time humorous historical anecdotes.
This professor is amazing. I took one mandatory class of history, and another as an elective, just to listen to his lectures. All I know about history is because I learned in his class. He is able to deliver the material in a way that you'd remember it right away, without much writing down and re-reading boring text book.
Andy Wilson is a hilarious character who infuses stories from his time in Ireland with a discussion of Irish History. He always lets you out early & very accommodating - take his class, you won't regret it!
Dashing in an early 20th century old world sort of way. Great accent. Very great lecturer. Never bored during the whole three hour class period. I found quizes easy. Gives you exam questions ahead of time. Very likable and funny. He will make love history. The textbook is too dense, but his lectures more than make up for it.
He is an amazing professor! I can listen to him talk for hours and really, it seems like 10 minutes. It helps that he's super hot...
Unreal prof, loves Irish history. Really interesting guy, good stories and very funny. Go to class and pay attention and you will be fine, really easy, no books needed. 2 tests, a paper and quizzes, really easy grader though
Prof. Wilson was alright. The class was pretty easy. Quiz questions mostly from lecture notes. Some from the packets. Simple research paper and easy final. Funny stories here and there. Otherwise, quite boring. Long, dull movies. Not a good night class. But an easy 300 level credit for history majors. Recommended. But he's no Bucholz.
Don't buy textbook! Really easy class, quiz every other week, one 8pg paper and final exam consisting of essays he gives you in advance. Can be a bit boring, but he tries to incorporate videos into it and class never lasts the whole 2.5 hours.
Don't buy the book. He is really funny, and although the subject matter can be a bit dry, he makes it easier to get through a 2.5 hour class, not that it lasts that long. Quizzes every other week, they're simple if you study. He gives you final questions beforehand, and the paper is only 7 pages. Definitely take him, he's pretty awesome.
I took this class as an elective because I needed one more class to graduate, I looked at the reviews and figured it'd be a breeze- I was wrong. The 2.5 hour class is boring as hell, and for each quiz you have to learn 100+ years of information. Lots of battles, dates, and people to memorize-plus small details from BBC documentaries. Don't take it.
professor Wilson is super cool. His nice Scottish accent makes listening to him talk about history for 2 hours bearable. He's clear and really sweet. quizzes every 2 weeks on his lectures, super easy and a final paper. I'd take him again.
How come it is an easy final? you have to write 2 in-class essay 1000 word each.
What can i say, quiz every other week, average B in quizes, final in class essays 2* 1000 words? wtf? Anyway i put effort in it and the grade i got wasn't idea, Good luck ppl?
Favorite teacher this semester, You have bi-weekly quizzes, an 8-page essay due the day of the final, and 2 final essays you write during the final but he gives you the prompts/topics so you know exactly what you are doing the day of the final. Take this class if you need to take a history class!
Excellent professor. He doesn't over work students. Bi-weekly quizes with a final and research paper. Bi-Weekly quizzes are fairly easy. Little to no reading from the text book so going to class is important. Overall you great professor and would highly recommend taking him.
I hated history before this class but his accent makes you actually pay attention. It is out of control how irish he is. Class is bi-weekly quizzes that are right off his lecture notes, research and final paper. I did not look at my book once. TAKE HIM, even if they are at horrible times. If you are bad at history, this is the guy to take.
Wilson is awesome. If you take good notes you will do fine on the quizzes. He grades the whole class on a curve so even if you're struggling a little you should get a decent grade. Bi-weekly quizzes (on fridays) that come straight from the notes. One paper and one essay final. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will need good notes. Take him!
Lectures are a little dry, but he doesn't expect too much out of you. He understands that not everyone is into history and that this is a required class. Hate the class, don't mind the prof. Not a bad choice. Cool accent. Research paper and final count for most of the grade.
Coolest guy. Professor Andrew makes history interesting, and usually I hate the subject. His lectures are really well structured and he makes it so easy to do well on his quizzes. There's one final paper that's a few pages long (7-8) and that's probably the only strenuous work you do for this class, but you have all semester before it's due.
This is a pretty easy class. Bi-weekly quizzes, one 8 page research paper, and one final essay exam. Class isn't mandatory but you really can't do well on the quizzes unless you have detailed notes. The way he lectures is awesome-it kind of sounds like he's telling a story. He grades on a curve so it's not hard to get an A
Fantastic guy. Very Irish. Hilarious, understands that this is a required course, and grades the class on a huge curve. Just take minimal notes and you'll do fine on the bi-weekly quizzes. Research paper was graded pretty liberally, I'm pretty sure. Don't buy the textbook! Attendance not mandatory but seriously just go. You'll get an A.
Take this guy. His lectures are so interesting, the way he talks is mesmerizing. Each class is clearly structured - he writes the outline on the board and then just lectures. Quizzes are very easy they come straight from the lectures. There is a solid amount of reading, but it's manageable
Wilson is by far the best teacher at this school. His class is super chill and laid back. He has an entertaining and clear accent. Always smiling and genuinely loves his subject. Bi-weekly quizzes that are 90% based on in class notes. 1 research paper and an essay final. Gives you 5 prompts to choose from 2 weeks before. Take him!!!
You could just not go to class and read up on the info and watch documentaries on your own, but its much more interesting to listen to Wilson's lectures anyways. Great class, professor's really funny.
Definitely can get by the semester wo buying that expensive textbook, BUT ONLY IF, you go to every lecture and actually pay attention and take notes in class. Solid professor, willing to help out, and cracks jokes at times. Don't worry if you don't get A's on all the quizzes (got Cs on them), you can save your grade with the research paperfinal.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM. WISH I COULD TAKE HIM FOR EVERY CLASS.
one of the coolest professors at Loyola! Lively and humorous, even at 8:30 am. very easy class, if you attend lectures and take notes (do it!) because they're what the biweekly quizzes are off of and there's only 1 long (8 page) paper at the end of the semester and a final.
Andrew is great. Passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are engaging w lots of movies. Really understanding and is a professor that will work with you. There's a lot of freedom to the course such as the research paper which could be on anything Irish. You must go to class to understand the class. Reading is also a must to do well on quizzes.
Andrew is seriously amazing. He constantly makes sure everyone is understanding the information he is presenting, and he never makes you feel bad for not understanding something. He gets the material across in such an interesting and engaging way, I hate history but this was my favorite class!
Wilson is great for 102. He gives bi weekly quizzes that are easy as long as you take notes. No exams, just quizzes a research paper and an essay final. Super chill teacher and tries to make lectures interesting with videos. Would take again.
Dr. Wilson is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is so clear in his lectures and his grading very fair. Although his lectures can be long, they are super interesting. He gives biweekly quizzes based on material from lecture. One big 8 page essay at the end and two in class essays for the final. If you take good notes, you got an A.
AMAZING MAN. He gives you a quiz every week BUT take advantage of that because then you stay fresh on the material for the final. He gives four questions and you have to write an essay on two of the topics. AND you have a paper due at the end of the semester. AMAZING lecturer!! I LOVE HIM! He tells a story every class you want to listen to!
Andrew is amazing! I wish i could have him for all of my classes. The class is so easy because he is totally clear during lectures. He doesn't take attendance but showing up definitely helps because before lecture starts he tells you what topics are on the weekly quizzes. He makes the class really fun. Don't buy the textbook.
Very clear cut professor. Bi-weekly quizzes based entirely on his lectures. Research paper and final exam essays are graded easily. Show up, pay attention, take good notes and it's an easy A. Don't buy the book!!
Lectures are interesting. 2 hour class is generally an hour and a half or less. Quizzes are easy as long as you attend class. Helpful with questions and available outside of class. Don't buy the book!
Professor Wilson made an intro level history course enjoyable. Going to class is important because there are bi-weekly quizzes based solely on his lectures. I took this as a night class so I expected it to be long & boring but he is a very intelligent man & it was very easy to sit through. Also, our class got out at least an hour early every time.
When I first took this class I was really excited to take this course. The subject matter is great and heard Andrew Wilson is amazing. He was great until the end of the semester. I had a very high A in his class which was based off quizzes. With a paper and a final left I went from a very solid A to getting an A- in his class. Utter bush league...
Dr. Wilson was the best teacher I have had at Loyola so far. His lectures are intriguing and he really knows what he is talking about. Definitely recommend him. Take good, detailed notes for the quizzes. No homework other than a paper at the end of the semester and studying for short quizzes. I was never bored in this class.
Wilson was by far my favorite professor this semester. I'm not a huge history buff, but his lectures are actually really interesting. He's also really funny and has an awesome accent. His quizzes are easy as long as you show up and listen.
Great teacher! The quizzes are graded on kind of a steep curve but they seriously help for the final exam. The class is about five quizzes, one final, and one research paper. Take very good notes and definietly read the articles he assigns and you should do well!
I had a once a week class, lectures were long but interesting. He definitely knows what he's talking about. It was frustrating though that every week he lectured for an hour then had us watch an hour of documentary, THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M PAYING TUITION FOR! Quizzes are difficult if you don't study everything he says in lecture. Easy paper at the end.
One of the best profs I've had here! Lectures are very interesting and keeps you engaged with interesting topics. 20 question quizzes every other week are a little difficult and specific, but if you take good notes and study them, they're a breeze. Just the quizzes, a research paper, and essay final are your grades. I highly recommend taking him!!
Okay- I want to like Wilson. I really do! He is a good guy but NOT a good professor. The quizzes are SO HARD. I went to every class and took detailed notes and got 50 or 60 % on the weekly quizzes. I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. I was able to bring up my grade with the paper and final, but it wasn't worth it in the end. Don't take
I didn't expect to have a good experience with a 7-9:30 night class but this one always ended early. On top of that his lectures were the best I've ever had from a history teacher. Once in a while a lecture will drag on but if it is an interesting topic you'll be in for a roller coaster ride every time. Great class, and an even better accent. 10/10
Lectures are interesting, you feel you understand but then comes his bi-weekly quizzes. He is a TOUGH grader, his quizzes are super detailed, however based on the notes he writes on the board at the beginning of class. Literally memorize all the notes for the quiz, there's a term paper as well.
Professor Andy's lectures are a amazing. By the time you finish class you literally learned stuff that is common knowledge and super interesting. HOWEVER, he is very old school and his biweekly quizzes are tough as hell, super specific, memorise everything from his guidelines and final is insane: memorise 4 essays, he chooses 2 random the day of.
Wilson is the best history professor there is. I was never a fan of history but I found myself looking forward to his class because his lectures were amazing and I was learning more than I have in any previous history class. Very straightforward, as long as you take notes and pay attention you will do fine on the quizzes and exams!
Andy is a great prof. He makes you work for it as his bi weekly quizzes are relitivley difficult. But if you study from the outlines from the notes it is an easy A. He is also willing to read your final essay and give back comments and he will bump up your grade if you frequently attend class.
This guy is an absolute beast. You have to go to his lectures and take notes for the quizzes, which aren't too bad. His exams and paper are really easy. You get out of class an hour early if you take it once a week.
Honestly the best professor I have ever had. I wish i could take every class with him. As long as you go to class and study the notes you'll be fine for the quizzes. He gives you four essay questions to study for the final and chooses two. Extremely straight forward.
Great professor and man. Knows what hes talking about and lectures are never boring. Always get out an hour or more early. Only this if you are not good at memorizing and regurgitating information this class will probably be difficult. Hard in my opinion for quizzes.
He is a really good professor would recommend him. He always puts everything you need to know on the board so as long as you study that you should be fine for his class. He is also really understanding.
Literally the best, such a funny guy, amazing teacher, super smart. Quizzes biweekly and final and paper. He writes main points on the board in the beginning of class, which will be on the quizzes, then he lectures so that you don't have to frantically write notes will he lectures, you can just take in the info. Seriously the best
He gives out 5 quizzes worth the majority of your grade but they're based on what is written on the board at the beginning of the class. Also a short research paper and a final. A perk of his is that he lets you miss a quiz and lets you take it the next class, he also lets you out early every single class if you take the 4:15 class. Very good prof!
All class long he stands in the front and talks on and on, making it nearly impossible to pay attention. The bi-weekly quizzes are based off majority of what he says and the notes he shows during class, essentially he expects you to write both down in class and study it. The quizzes have random stupid questions in them. Don't waste your time.
Attendance isn't part of the grade. Quizzes can be hard and your overall grade consists of 5 quizzes, essay and a small final. Is he super nice but isn't great at putting out information.
Such an amazing lecturer. He lectures this information to you like hes actually experienced it and he is really funny. However, this class was so difficult mainly because of the quizzes. Some parts of the quizzes weren't even discussed in the notes/lecture/readings. However, if you did terrible on all the quizzes, you can make them up w the paper
Hardest teacher I've ever taken! His quizzes are extremely hard. And on the final, you have write 1800 words for 2 hours! I would never take him again!
Lectures the whole class period and was not interesting. Quizzes every other week that are very tough. You can look at the study guide but itll only help a little bit as half the questions on the quizzes are completely random. Also, theres little room to boost your grade as theres 5 quizzes, a paper, and a final as your whole grade. Dont take!
KILLED MY GPA. 50% of your grade is based on quizzes and the other 50% is the paper and final exam. My friends told me to take him and he completely changed the way he taught the class when I was there. Do not take
BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT LOYOLA. Very funny and lectures are very interesting. Quiz heavy, but can easily make it up in final paper and exam. Final paper is super easy and exam is straight forward. Class is made up of 5 quizzes, 1 paper, and the final. He also gives extra credit if you show up regularly. He really wants you to succeed in the class.
He is awesome! Lectures are long, but he makes them interesting. Quizzes are sometimes a little tricky, but he really helps with putting some notes and key terms online. Clearly gives paper and assignment expectations so you can get a good grade.
Awesome lectures. Took his summer course and it was super straight forward. He explains things in detail but theres no extra fluff. All the information was clear and easy to remember because of the way he lectured. We had 3x 2.5 papers, quizzes every lecture and a 8pg research paper + final where he gave the questions beforehand! I recommend!
I love this man
Andy is gem. His lectures feel like super interesting conversations and he's a super laid back and casual guy. You definitely don't have to attend every class, but attend enough to know the material for bi-weekly quizzes. If you listen they're an easy A and make up the majority of your grade.
This man is a gem.
He is a great person, he cares about your work and he tries to get the best from you. The first part of the course is pretty easy, 5 in class quiz, one every 2 weeks. The end of the course is pretty hard, a lot of work, one 6/7 pages paper and a big final in class.
TAKE!THIS!CLASS! Wilson's lectures are essentially him telling you history like its a story-and he adds lots of humor to them. He gave five quizzes (instead of exams) that were easy as long as you look at your notes (I don't know why so many people on here are saying they were so difficult). For the final, he gives you the prompts ahead of time.
This was truly my favorite class of last semester, and I was absolutely not expecting it to be. Andy is ridiculously funny. His lectures feel like stories. He does do biweekly quizzes that are honestly rather difficult, but if you study, you'll be fine. He's pretty lenient with grading, and even if he wasn't, I would still recommend him.
He's THE BEST. Whenever he gives lectures it's like he's telling you a story but on history. There are only 5 quizzes that are fairly easy if you study the documents a little and there's an essay to help boost your grade. Super chill guy!
He drones on and on when it comes to his lectures. 1/2 of your grade is based on 5 quizzes that may or may not have questions that relate to the study guide he gave you. The other half is based on a research paper and a final. If you want to be properly assessed within a class, DON'T TAKE!
Best history professor at Loyola University of Chicago. He's very funny and explains everything very well. Even if you don't like history, you will enjoy the class. Through out the semester there are 5 quizzes, 1 paper and 1 final exam. Make sure to pay attention and read through the notes or take your own, you will do fine in the class.
He is a good professor, but is very lecture heavy. He gives quizzes every other week (about 20 questions) and they're super specific so you HAVE to come to class and take notes. He also has a research paper at the end of the semester. Overall a solid choice, he's a nice guy too and tells funny stories (and everyone loves his Irish accent)
Great choice for 102! Lectures go by quickly ('puts the story in history', so it interesting.) Kickass Irish accent/great sense of humor (he could be a stand-up comedian by night). 5 quizzes in total during semester based on what covered in class. Take thorough notes!6 page research paper/a final at the end of course. Challenging but manageable
If you need to take a history class, take it with him!!!! He was by far one of the most interesting and helpful professors ever. Also before each quiz he basically gives you all the answers in the study guide, so study that and you can get an A. Loved this class and professor.
The single most boring hour of my week. He just talks. No questions, no powerpoint, no class participation. So boring. I wouldn't mind the boring if he weren't such a tough grader. You will walk out of every quiz thinking you got 100, and this man will go and give you a fat 70 every time.
Wilson is the best, he would always write an outline on the board and just talk, as if he were telling a story. He also has an amazing Irish accent and is hilarious, I'd laugh almost every class. Quizzes make up half your grade, and while they are challenging (sometimes asking for specifics) they're doable as long as you show up to class and study
This class was ROUGH. Super lecture heavy, so lecture heavy in fact there was no PowerPoint. His quizzes were super detailed, and the discussion posts were the same. He had specific things he wants you to mention in your post but he did not tell you what those things are you just have to guess and if you miss something hell knock off a letter grade
Amazing person... and frankly a great teacher too. So, why did I give him such a low rating? Well, because of his insane grading scale. 95 is an A instead of 93 or 94. Only graded by 5 quizzes & 4 discussion forums. Quizzes are extremely hard and the time limit is rough. Grade given for forums is usually a B-. So say goodbye to any chance of an A.
Not good. No powerpoints, just talking to the screen. Extremely tough grader for a core class, and the only grades are quizzes and forums. Provides "notes" that are completely useless when it comes time to take a quiz because none of the information in the documents is on the quiz. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Wilson is AMAZING! Sure he doesnt have powerpoints and just lectures, but hes so engaging in his lectures theyre easy to follow along. He has such a soothing voice too, he should start a podcast or something. It may not be the easiest class, but he does want you do well and will work with you. I almost became a history minor because of him
5 quizzes and 4 discussion posts. he will bump up your grade if you participate during lectures. the quizzes are a little hard but doable if you attend lectures. he makes you work for an A on the discussion posts. I recommend writing much more than the 400 word minimum to get a good grade. he is very nice and funny and grades things so fast.
HE'S THE BEST! Took this class online because of COVID and he was very understanding and respectful with our time. 5 quizzes and 4 discussion posts, rewatch his lectures and he will give you all of the info to do well! Gives notes on his lectures, and has a great accent! 10/10
Andy is awesome. He makes history really interesting-- his classes are all lectures but they feel more conversational and he gives you super detailed notes. Overall, if you come to class and participate every now and then, you will be more than fine for this course.
This course was my first at LUC, and it set the bar high! I hadn't been inspired by a genuine, & authentic teacher in a long time. With him being a native Irishman it made every lecture seemingly come from the heart, especially the "troubles." A very kind, caring, humble & understanding prof. I learned a ton, & wasn't even aware I was learning!
Dont get me wrong, he is a nice person, but his grading is ridiculously strict. You may write the best paper ever, but he will always find a way to mark you down b/c you didnt include a small detail from his lectures. He essentially wants you to regurgitate everything he says in his lectures into your papers, which isnt a great teaching method.
Wilson is an overall great professor. I have taken two of his classes during COVID. I would say his class is relatively easy. His lecture style definitely takes time to get used to. You are graded by 4 discussion posts (400ish word essays) and 5 quizzes (15-20 questions). Only complaint is that an A is a 95% but he rounds a grade if you participate
Dr. Wilson gives great lectures. Lectures are critical to do well in this class but he makes the content easy to follow and interesting. His assignments are fair and only graded by 5 quizzes and 5 short essays. He's also super kind and open to answering lots of questions
If you have the chance to have him as your professor, TAKE HIM! He is a fantastic professor, lectures are easy, very good at explaining what is covered in class, and he has a good sense of humor and a dope Irish accent. Bi-weekly quizzes and online discussions, both which are super easy as long as you pay attention to the lectures.
Dr. Wilson was easily my favorite professor this semester. Not only is he extremely funny, he is also an incredible teacher that I really learned a lot from. I loved absolutely everything about him and the class. I'm transferring next semester, but if I wasn't I would want to take all of his classes!
I love Andy! His class is heavy on lectures, but he's clearly very passionate and knowledgeable. Hes very clear and provides in depth notes, so its really not hard to pick up on the material. Grade is based on short essays and quizzes (which are very specific to his own notes). Not too hard if you pay attention, and the Irish accent keeps it fun
Wilson is overall a solid choice for a history professor. There are no exams, just 5 quizzes, and 4 forum posts. He does bump grades at the end of the semester if you show you put in the effort and the grading scale is leniant. Just beware that you do need to actually study for the quizzes because most the time there's no telling what it will ask
Very nice professor but his quizzes are very hard. He is very lecture heavy and his notes do not reflect what he speaks about in class. If absent, the quiz is harder as he adds to the quiz his own comments in his lecture. Overall, he is a very nice person but his quizzes make the class dreadful.
A super nice guy with an obvious passion for the course. He is extremely knowledgeable and packs a lot into his lessons. He can be a bit of a tough grader but he makes it for having a lenient grading scale. Take him if you want someone who will bring passion and facts to the classroom, just be ready to study a bit.
He's a fantastic professor! His class is lecture heavy and he doesn't provide any slides that go along with them. He has a document with what he lectures about in class so that's helpful when studying for the quizzes. They're pretty straightforward and easy. You also write 3 essays throughout the semester which wasn't too bad. Highly recommend!
Andy is the best history professor ever! He has great lectures and is incredibly smart. He is very funny and helpful. Attendance is not mandatory but I would strongly recommend going to class because most of what is covered on quizzes and discussion posts is just in the lectures or word docs. I STRONGLY recommend any of his classes.
Lectures are long but he posts all his lecture notes on Sakai. The class is about the 1960s so have fun learning about the JFK assassination. You have to do some essay discussion posts but he takes points off for what you don't include. He curves the grades so you'll probably be fine.
As long as you show up to class and take notes, you will be fine for the 5 quizzes. They do cover alot of material but he makes it easy to understand. He is funny and is passionate about what he teaches. I will take him again for my next history course! Take him if you dont want an average boring history professor!
Professor Wilson is great at lecturing! He does not use slides but does provide helpful lecture notes on Sakai. There are 5 quizzes that are difficult if you skip class but still are manageable, as well as 3 essays that each include two responses to classmates. He does boost your grade by one letter grade if you show up regularly and do your work!
He's a tough grader but if u regurgitate everything he says in the lectures on the papers u should be fine
He is very kind and passionate about what he does. Read his lecture notes and TAKE NOTES ON THEM. They are ESSENTIAL for the quizzes. He lectures the whole time so try not to miss them. Also, he takes off points if you don't mention the specific points he wants to read in the essays, even if you wrote a good argument. Send drafts to him beforehand!
Professor Wilson is awesome, my favorite Professor so far at Loyola. Lecture heavy but I was never bored, makes funny jokes. Really cares about students and how they are doing. Quiz every 2 weeks but they aren't that hard, need to have good class notes and pay attention. About 3 papers and fair grader, absolutely take
Dr. Wilson is a super cool guy, but can be pretty nit-picky about papers. His lectures are very clear and engaging, and he puts up his talking points on the board so you know what is actually important for quizzes. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS, don't bother buying the textbook since all material you need to know is in the lecture. Very funny and chill!
Professor Wilson is a nice guy and overall the class was good. The quizzes are somewhat difficult bc they rely on memorizing specific aspects. You aren't graded on attendance but if you miss class, the quizzes will be impossible. He has a nice grading scale though. I think his class is a great choice for tier 2 history
Take his class for history tier 2!! Very chill and laid back, he explains everything very well and is open to help you if you don't understand, only thing is attendance is needed to pass the class since everything on the test he explains in each class, also take good notes and you'll be good.
Lecture heavy! Attend every class, take solid notes, and you'll do totally fine in his course. A quiz every other Friday on the material and 3 total essays. Looks for specific details that tie into the prompt when grading, so send him your essay beforehand, and he'll lead you in the right direction before you submit. Overall great professor.
Don't take him. He marks random points off papers for little things you forget to regurgitate from his lectures. The quizzes are difficult. It's all based on memorization, so you must take VERY thorough lecture notes to get above a C. Overall, he's a great guy, but this class is way too hard for core.
5 quizzes that are short answer and HARD, 3 800-word essays that are graded tough with 200-word discussion responses to peer essays. Final 800-word essay. Lecture HEAVY and no slides or textbook so if you don't go to class you won't know what's on the quiz. He asks questions from material he covered for 10 seconds in a lecture. Unnecessarily hard.
I don't know if I was the problem or if everyone else here is wrong, but this class was not good. Wilson lectures for the entire class without much of a lesson plan. Three easy-ish 800-word essays and 5 quizzes. Quizzes are SO HARD and ask about the most niche material. Wilson is a hard grader and this class was WAY too much for a core.
Very kind man, makes an effort to learn your name if you show up to class often enough. Essays are pretty straightforward, just be sure not to put it off and you should be fine. The only issue is the quizzes. Really specific free-response questions that you have no way of knowing the answers to, but grading scale is adjusted accordingly
Professor Wilson is a truly friendly and funny individual who made me interested in history. You have 3 essays and 5 bi-weekly quizzes throughout the semester. While attendance is not mandatory, to do well on the quizzes and essays you need to show up since there are things he only covers in class that aren't in the notes. Take him if you can!
Professor Wilson made it hard to get a good grade in his class. In class he would lecture with no slides making it hard to follow. The grade is made up of 5 quizzes, 3 papers, and attendance. The quizzes are impossible, they are questions about the smallest things in the textbook and things we learned making it impossible to do well.
There are 3 papers and 5 quizzes, if you attend the class they are easy. He writes topics on the board that are on the quiz and the rubric is clear of what you need. There are no slides, but he has docs covering the material. The textbook is optional (it's pointless to purchase) if you do, get an older edition as they are cheaper and the same.
I have never liked history, but Prof. Wilson's lectures are so interesting. He writes a few main points on the board and then just talks. His quizzes are pretty easy as long as you take notes, but he also makes it really clear what is going to be on the quizzes. There are 3 essays that have clear guidelines and interesting topics.
Overall, Professor Wilson is a good instructor. He makes his lectures engaging while clearly explaining the concepts and events. Do not miss a lecture because his quizzes include what's covered in class. So show up! My only gripe with him is that his quizzes include very niche details from his lectures, which can be difficult if you don't show up.
Great guy with very entertaining lectures, grade is simple 5 quizzes based off of the lectures (Take Good Notes) and 3 essays/discussion posts with responses. Easy to get good grades hard to get 100% because if you miss something he wanted you to cover he takes off points
class is just lectures but they're interesting, go to every one or you'll be lost. bi-weekly quizzes that can be hard, but write down like everything he teaches it'll be okay. 3 essays, each requires response to 2 other students work. papers have 800 word minimum, but to get full points write more because he wants you to cover a lot.
Professor Wilson is an amazing professor who truly cares about the success of his students, and wants to see them succeed. Your grade consists of 3 essays and 5 bi-weekly quizzes, and while attendance is not mandatory in reality, if you want to succeed, show up because he asks specific questions that he covers in class only. Overall an amazing guy!
You are graded on 5 quizzes and 3 papers. Everything counts for a lot on your grade so it is important to do well on everything. Go to class, missing class means you will miss out on important content that is on the quizzes or papers. Kinda tough on the papers, you need to include every small detail to not lose points on them
I absolutely loved his class!! Super easy and based on a quiz every other week and 3 essays (one of which is the final). He's from Ireland, is super funny, and you can tell he really loves history. His grading can be a little harsh on the essays but overall it's manageable.
Professor Wilson's HIST212 class is challenging but rewarding. While the quizzes and essays require diligence, his engaging lectures make the material interesting. Attending class and taking detailed notes is key. unstuck AI helped me prepare and succeed in this course.
He is so interesting to listen to, class always flies by. You don't need to buy the textbook unless you want extra resources to prepare for the quizzes. There are a few papers and a 5 quizzes. Loved this class so much!
I've never been good at history I took the class for a core requirement, but Professor Wilson was very good at making the material easy to understand. He provides Word-Docx for each topic to study for the 5 quizzes throughout the semester. No midterm or final, just the quizzes and 3 essay's.
I would take him again in a heartbeat. Really enjoyed his lessons and the way he combines lectures with multimedia (documentaries, music, podcasts). He connected the information to current events. Three essay-length discussion posts and responses. 4 short quizzes on the information. If you show up and take good notes, you'll pass. Funny & Irish!
Professor Wilson is an amazing lecturer that makes information really easy to comprehend. He also makes sure that whatever he teaches is clearly understood by his students, constantly checking for comprehension. The only issue is that his quizzes can be really harsh, and are worth 50% of your grade.
Hands down ultimate chiller. This guy has amazing lectures, is genuinely so funny, and talks about beer half the time. Class is relatively easy with some difficult concepts, but he explains them all so well. Ultimate history teacher. Get in his classes before they close. A+ Professor.
Whoever said that quizzes are hard are literally lying, as long as you take notes his quizzes are very straightforward and easy. AMAZE lecturer genuinely love how interesting he makes history as someone who never paid attention to hist b4. 3 essays a little picky of a grader but def doable nd ez.
Andrew Wilson has been one of my favorite professors so far. He is super funny and cares about his students. Class consists of lectures and a bi weekly quiz. As long as you take good notes and pay attention in class it is an easy and very interesting class. I highly recommend.
Your grade is split 50/50 between quizzes (5) and papers (3). While he's a tough grader, it's easy to score in the B+ to A range. Super lecture heavy; however, lectures are entertaining (Wilson is from Northern Ireland) and he includes diverse mediums. Further, Wilson provides extra resources in sakai that go super in depth on lecture topics.
Great teacher.
Great professor. He grades on three short essays and 5 quizzes, his grading scale is forgiving so its hard to fail his class. He responds quickly to emails and offers good advice when asking how to write your essay. His classes are lecture reliant as not all topics covered have notes online, so make sure to be present. Be in class and you pass.
Overall he made the class way too hard for a 100 level class. You can take notes on every single thing he says, yet still do poorly on the quizzes when you don't remember a specific detail he talks about. He was a friendly guy, but lectures were very dry and had no sympathy when grading. DO NOT take his class if you are a bad quiz taker.
lectures were so dry. harsh grader with no explanation. not good at memorizing? say bye to your grade. never thought I would get a c in a 100 lvl hist class after attending every class. he thought of himself as better than ppl bc he's from oak park. there's def better professors. avoid if you can.
Dr. Wilson is a very nice man but this class was a slog. The quizzes are unreasonably hard and trivial and do not do a good job of assessing your knowledge. He will mark you down for leaving the smallest details out of essays. The lectures are extremely unengaging and the ancient documentaries are even more so. Great guy, not a good teacher.
He seemed like a decent guy, but the grading is SO UNFAIR. Entire grade based on nit picky questions from lecture. You can write down everything he says & still struggle severely. Grading on essays was unsympathetic and harsh.
Prof. Wilson is a great guy! He loves talking about the different events, and loves incorporating Chicago into the course whenever he can. There are bi-weekly quizzes that are very simple and straightforward, mainly being 1-5 word answers. The papers are a little bit more, but even then, he doesn't take much off for points. Absolutely love him.
Lectures are interesting and very open minded, cool guy
I don't agree with the "chill guy" reviews. He lied about exams being easy - they were very specific details from lectures. Took unnecessary points off from writing assignments - would never explain why when I asked. maybe he has favorites or smth but he was not what these reviews said. also was kind of creepy towards girls.
Incredible teacher with very good lectures and clear requirements of what is expected on essays. Next to no homework in the entire class, but attending class is very important. Everything talked about in class will be on a quiz, but its not there to trick you. If you paid attention and were there in class, the quizzes should be easy 90% at least
I attended every class and took detailed notes but still struggled on quizzes that made up most of the grade. He said they'd be free-response, but they were all multiple-choice/one-word questions. If you aren't good at memorizing specifics, avoid him. He clearly has favorites, and some of these glowing reviews feel self-written.
You have to come to class to know what will be on the quizzes, but even if I wrote basically everything he said down, I would still find some things on the test that he didn't talk about. The only homework is essays that he grades pretty harshly on for no reason when they're opinion based.
Dr. Wilson is a chill, soft spoken Irish guy. He lectures about history like he's telling a story, which makes it engaging. He shows videos sometimes too. His class is a LOT of content. It can be a bit boring at times, but he checks for understanding often. You can get by without reading the textbook. There's 5 quizzes + 3 discussion post essays.
