I am only writing this because I recently learned that he'll be teaching at your college next semester, and I owe Mr. Young a ton of gratitude! I'm totally bummed because he is leaving Northern Virginia Community College. Check out his reviews if you get a chance!!! He is an awesome professor. He'll make you a better writer and person.

I am taking Professor Young for an 8 week hybrid course. Great, funny teacher! He LOVES writing and English. Really wants to help you. But get prepared to write. Online entries per week. You gotta attend. Tells funny stories. Real down to earth. Makes the class breeze by. Oh, and he is easy on the eyes...;)

He loves what he does! I hated reading stories, but Prof. Young make it interesting. He makes you feel like you can figure it out for yourself. But you must show up to class. Don't skip! Also, he makes you write a lot. I wrote more in his class than ENC1101! But it was worth it. Take him, you won't regret it.

I wish he taught ENC 1102! Makes the class breeze by. Cool, funny teacher with some style. Wears Jordans to class. As for class, 4 essays and a test. Seems like a lot but he explains each essay step-by-step, and he gives lots of examples so you know what he wants. Also, don't skip class! You'll fail. He expects you in class. Take his class

Prof Young is great! He has made getting back into school and writing papers so easy! we have written 3 papers so far and working on the 4th and he literally tells you how to write the paper. There is no excuse for not doing well, he is so energetic and a fantastic teacher. I would take his class again for sure! highly recommend him!

Hate to admit this but Mr Y caught me plagiarizing an essay. I got busy w/ work and had to submit something. How did he know? He reads EVERYTHING you write! Seriously! & he knows your writing style immediately. He didn't fail me for the course but worked w/ me to improve. I owe him, he really helped me. And don't skip class!! He takes attendance!!!

Prof Young is amazing! Very clear on how to write each paper and a very big help with each essay. I was never a great writer to start, but Prof Young helped improve my writing tremendously! He is super nice and genuinely cares about each of his students and their grade. If you show up to class, do your essays and work, it's an easy A! He is great!

I took Prof Young's 8 week class the fall 2016 and he was a great teacher. We had 3 essays and one was a research paper which I never knew how to write and he helped all of use write one. He would give us plenty of links to help us. He would also let use bring in 2 rough drafts and have 2 students grade our work and give feedback for our final draf

Awesome Professor! Keeps grades up to date regularly. Easy to get along with. Make sure to do the assignments / read the assigned readings. Responds to emails / notes and keeps open line of communication. Attendance is a must! Assigns homework every class.

Mr. Young was a great English professor. I took his 16 week, in-school course. He didn't accept anything turned in online and held your hand throughout the whole semester. Attendance is mandatory, 25 points off the third class missed. Always in a great mood and never a boring class. I definitely would take this Professor again.

Professor Young is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He helps with struggling students and assists them with assignments. I hated writing and had failed ENC1101 a couple times before taking him and he was able to get me to actually write and enjoy the class. There is some work in the class but it's easy.

Be prepared to have a part of your life challenged. I won't say when, but there will be one moment in the course that will challenge who you are as a person. He brings literature to life! He loves to say: You are on a quest for meaning! And you are trying to figure out how that is happening. Literature gives us equipment for life. So true.

Mr . Young is very passionate about his teaching which makes his class fun. While you may have to do a few papers he gives you the tools necessary to get them done. He's very fair, but don't miss class.

Professor Young is so kind, caring, and funny! If you respect him and his class, you will get respect in return. He is fair and walks you through all essay requirements thouroughly. The workload is not overwhelming. I wish I could take him for every English class!

He explains everything so well and the homework is usually minimal. There were only four essays to do, and he walks everybody through them. One of the most personable and helpful professors I've ever had.

LOVED HIM! This was one of my favorite classes I've ever taken at FSCJ. He always made the class super fun and engaging. You're allowed to miss one class. You write stuff every week so be prepared to write, but it's usually fun stuff and he gives very clear instructions. I highly recommend! I adore him. He is a gem!

Young is a really great professor. He's funny but also knows what he's talking about. There was a writing exercise every week and he made them very interesting. He believes in positive critiquing so instead of telling weaknesses he tells you how to make your story work which is so helpful. You'll want to go to every class!

An incredible professor! But his online classes are way different than his face to face classes. He is super responsive online but the due dates are exact. You cant slack off. If you post after a due date, he wont give you any points. He is a fair grader, but he takes NO late work! Dont try it. Online is nice, but take him face to face!

I love Mr. Young, but his online course is super challenging! Every week there is a step-by-step announcement that he posts on Blackboard. You can work ahead, but it isn't easy work. I prefer him in-person!! Very different experience. If you can take him in-person, do it! Very helpful.

I love how people think his online course is TOO MUCH work! If you don't like to read, don't take him. If you don't like to write, don't take him. Everything is straightforward and the readings are actually interesting (articles), and he is a fair grader for college. But I would agree, his in person classes are awesome! I miss Mr. Young.

i went from not caring at all in high school english to falling in love with the topic due to professor young. yeah he may be hard about attendance but the class was 7 weeks long. just put in the effort and you will be fine.

I have never met someone more willing to go out of his way to help. I have taken his in-person classes and online class. Yes, the online class is more work than the in-person but it only becomes overwhelming if you do everything last minute. Take him in-person. His final exam is a competitive amazing race/scavenger hunt in-person. So awesome!

He embodied the word Teacher/Professor,he will pass onto you all his knowledge and more. All he ask is your time and presence in the class. I took his class and he guided me through it. He is very approachable. You can ask him question in the middle of the night and you get an answer. You most take his class in person,no dull moment while learning.

One thing do not miss class. The first class he excuses but every class after that you miss, you lose points no matter the excuse. But other than that he is an amazing professor , me personally I hate essays and writing but his class felt like anything but a literary class. I'm so glad I didn't take ENC1102.

Great class and teacher! I usually don't like online classes but his class very organized. He gives time to write the essays. Offers lots of student examples to help. He responds to emails fast for an online class! Also, he gives detailed emails each week that explain the assignments and due dates. But you can't submit late work!

He makes it really easy to want to come to class and do the work. His policies are really clear. Come to class, do the reading and submit an online response. If you do all that, you're good. He's got a great attitude and the kind of positivity that helps even if you aren't self-motivated. There is in-class group work but it is actually really fun.

Professor Young is hands down one of the best teachers! His lectures are fun and easy to follow. The entire course is designed so that you get an A. You'd have to try really hard to fail, or just not go to class. Attendance is graded!! He put to gether his own textbook that you view online - for free! Highly recommend.

Prof. Young was fabulous!! Attendance is super important and I am notorious for not coming to class if it's not required, but its worth it. If you do what is asked of you you will get an A! I would 100% take him again.

Awesome teacher! Took his 7 week, 7:30am class. Despite the early mornings and intensity, I really got a lot out of the class. He makes writing understandable and fun. Just dont miss any classes! He takes off points!! Oh, and he does not take late work. Other than those two things, he is super helpful and easy to talk to after class.

Professor Young has been one of my favorite English professors at FSCJ. He makes class time interactive, meaning he doesn't lecture the whole time. He will open your eyes to great literature, while simultaneously making you a better writer. Workload was fine with my 5 other classes and working full-time. He truly cares about teaching his students.

Professor Young is great! I took his class for ENC1101 and then again for his LIT2000 class. Both were a blast. You learn a lot, but not in the terribly boring way. You'll laugh for sure, too. I completely recommend his classes (he also teaches ENC1102). His textbooks are created by himself so they're either free or about $40.

Take him! His classes fill fast, though. I took his in-person classes (ENC 1101 & LIT 2000). Both were great. Also, super easy to talk, if you have questions. Only 2 things about his classes - don't miss more than 2 classes (or you lose points) AND you can't turn in late work. Other than that, awesome teacher who cares. I learned a lot.

When I turned in my first essay is was all red marks, but after his help and lectures. My writing improved so much. Im so thankful for his class

Professor Young is amazing! You won't find many professors like him now and days. He gives very strong, powerful feedback and is very inspiring. There is a lot of reading and a fair share of essays but it's all interesting information, so you won't be bored. He is very prompt in replying and will help if you are in need.

Professor Young is by far the best professor I've had. I attended his hybrid class and it was more so fun than work. He gives incredible feedback, grades quickly, and even was kind enough to accommodate an issue I had regarding absences. I recommend this professor to everyone. Take his LIT2000 class too, if you can! The man is hilarious.

His Creative Writing class was an easy A. Show up and do your homework and you're guaranteed an A. Even if you're not good at writing, just show a little effort and he will give you an A. He is funny, but his lectures got a little boring if you're not interested in writing, but there is no textbook which is a plus.

I definitely recommend taking a class from professor young. I took ENC1102 it was an online course and I loved it. He made things clear for you. He always got back with you as soon as he could. He always gives helpful feedback.

Professor Young has been my best professor yet. I had health issues so I struggled with the class but he was very caring and a very fair grader. I got a B plus and I was happy with it. I had to drop my history class. Professor Young made every assignment very clear and step by step got you to the final essay. Highly recommend.

This is by far the best teacher at FSCJ. Pleasant, kind, clear. I took him for CRW2001, but enjoyed his class so much I also signed up under him with ENC 1102. He'll always help you no matter how dumb your question may seem. His instructions are clear and precise. I genuinely wish I had taken this guy with my ENC1101 and LIT2000 class.

Prof Young is awesome! His grading criteria is very clear and he does a very good job at explaining things. He's very respectful and has a great energy throughout the course. Prof. Young is a great teacher. Usually, get one discussion of 250 words and one HW assignment--which are pretty Simple--a week. There are also two essays; one as the midterm and one as the final. If you do your work and turn it in on time, you will get an easy A. Great class, highly recommended.

Took professor Andrew for LIT2000 and he was beyond amazing. He thoroughly explains the course and if we need help, he has this optional group online class where he takes questions. There is a bit of reading you'll need to do, but he's pretty generous and sometimes will give you chances. 10/10 would take again.

Professor Young is an amazing professor as he clearly explains what he expects from you with each assignment and genuinely cares about your learning experience. Some of the readings are a bit dark so I'd be prepared for that, but he gives you ample time to complete the assigned readings at your own pace.

Professor Young was the best professor I have ever had. He explained everything as thoroughly as possible, so I knew exactly what I needed to do for each assignment. This class is easy read the stories and poems and if you don't understand shoot him an email and he'll help you, there's no chance of failing.

I was very concerned having to take this course over, I failed 1102 the first time by 1 point thats how petty my last professor was. Professor Young was such an amazing professor. Always giving great feedback and does give extra credit! He is direct but is more than happy to help whenever you need it.

There's one weekly Canvas response, and three essays throughout the semester, the last one is a research paper. He always gives awesome detailed feedback. His final was easy and fun. There's a textbook, but its free and rarely used.

Great Professor! He's very sweet and passionate about his work. There is a textbook requirement for the course and some relatively heavy reading and two essays, but the rest is just reflection and discussion!

He has been my favorite professor so far! He shows you the way to your own thinking skills and creativity.

Amazing professor even online. In the beginning you'll read stories but towards the end it focuses on two essays. He gives plenty of time to complete assignments, minimal discussion boards, no tests. Extra credit is easy. Fast responder and overall he really cares. None of your work is for nothing, it all ties together. No reason you wont have an A

I took this class online, his grading was fair, everything was so straight forward, he tells you what he wants from you, gives extra credit. He answers emails so fast and gets back to you. I took Professor Young his online ENC 1102 and both classes were very easy. For his ENC 1102 class there is a lot of reading in the first half of the semester but once you read, the assignments are very easy. For the second half of the semester you will focus on writing two essays that are broken into steps. Easy class, I recommend taking his class

My favorite professor at FSCJ! Makes class fun. Easy to talk to and ask questions. Very funny. Learned a lot about how to study poetry. Oh and his final exam is the best! You won't be disappointed.

Class is super organized and easy to follow! He sends out Canvas messages each week that explain everything. Responds to email fast even on weekends. There're 2 long readings but he gives like 2 weeks to complete each one. Doesn't take late work but sends constant reminders to submit. If you can't pass his course you shouldn't be in college.

I have taken three of his classes. His in person classes are the best. Very inspiring. He really helped me become a better writer and thinker. For all his courses, he does not take late work! And you must attend. Definitely read his regular announcements. Those are life savers. If you have questions, email him. He's great!

One of my favorite professors! Makes class fun, and easy to talk to. I actually like writing now. The class uses canvas so check canvas especially the announcements. I didn't have a problem with this but he does not take late work. He does give extra credit though. Also he takes attendance but we only met once a week so not a big issue.

Best professor! He is always ready to help. The readings are intense but he gives lots of time to complete them. He sends reminders in Canvas. He goes above and beyond! So helpful. He responds super fast to emails and was always willing to answer my questions. Online classes can be tough but I really enjoyed his class. His classes fill up fast.

I took this class with Dr Young many years ago. I always struggled mightily in my writing classes throughout my life. I loved how much he covered on grammar and syntax. I learned a great deal from Dr. Young—not only from the course material, but also from his guidance more broadly. I would not be where I am in my life if it weren't for Dr Young.

Professor Young is one of the best teacher took him in ENC 1101. He is very caring, professional, knowledgeable, and experienced. If you follow and listen to his instructions, especially on his syllabus, you will be 100% successful in his class.
