His lecture was unorganized and unclear. His handwriting was bad and hard to read.
Nice guy. Easy A is you do all the work. He gives a lot of work. Thinks and talks to fast.
Mr. Young is one of the best math teachers I ever had.. He has a good sense of humor and makes math less boring than it really is. He gives a lot of homework, but it is the only way to make sure people are studying. If you do the homework, you'll get AorB
This is the third time I'm taking Math 136 and belive me people, he is the one who made me to understand the material, and also to know how to use the calc. His tests are easy easy, and HW is just a regular thing.
Mr Young is one of the best Math teachers ever. HE is very very very smart and he knows his math. He is funny and very understanding. His tests are not easy but not too hard, just resonable. He will try his best to make you learn, and to pass the class.
Mr. Young is a very good teacher. He helps you a lot and he is fair on his grading. It is worth taking his class because he is an enthusiastic teacher and makes you learn the subject well.
he is really easy. his tests are no brainer. but he doesnt explain well in class. you should have a tutor or something for his class. you MUST do the entire homework, cause he checks one by one.
Young is a very happy and enthusiastic guy but you don't learn much from his lectures. I'm not a math fan so I didn't enjoy the class, but I think getting an A required a lot of extra effort (don't skip the homework).
You can barely read his handwriting, but he makes up for it by being nice, approachable, and diplomatic (ie, if the whole class agrees, he'll change the exam date). The homework is a little daunting, but if you can do them, the exams'll be pretty easy.
Very unclear lectures. Goes too fast and doesnt' pinpoint where students most often have trouble. Though he's very helpful if you come to his office hours. Yet, the lectures are pretty bad that you feel like your doing alot on your own.
If you're in the class and you're a science/math major you want to learn the material well. Mr. Young teach you the material and give you examples, but you only have so much time. If want more information you can use the math-science center, you can always get extra help, dont blame the teacher beca
He teaches very well,FAIR colecting HW&TESTS&QUIZES NOT terrible but reasonably TRUE about consequences, very well manner, helpful in office hourse,AND a HAPPY TEACHER ALL DAY,Honesty this is the first time i have this class and i'm really glad,CALCULUS IS HARD,BUT HARD IS FUN, take with him"GARANTY"
he is one the fair teachers that i had so far.He gives a lot of partial points and when u get your grade you will be surprise.DAmn he is goooooood
This class is a lot of fun. I have learned a lot in his class. He is fair and easy. He is just a little fast. He needs to slow down when explaining. Overall, very good teacher and a fun class. I recommend this teacher.
He is one of the most fair teachers that i have met. he gives a lot of partial points, very easy tests and quizes if you study, and explains very clearly, if you do all the homeworks and listen and take nots in class you will get a very good grade, TRUST ME
Hay math 103 is hard but if you study hard and do the homework u will be fine.I just studied 2 hours a day and I got my A.Mr. Young is really helpful and cool and gives lots of partial points that u can get at leat B in his class.
I use to hate math. Because of my past teacher. Mr. Young chnaged my mind about math, by making it interesting and fun. Mr. Young grades pretty easily and teaches very well. I would really recommend Mr. Young.
Mr Young iz the best teacher ever! i got B in his class, so don't think that i'm saying all the goods things bout him because i got an excellent grade. He can explain everything as long as u get it. He can stop on one thing for the whole class period, but he'll b sure that u got it. He's great!
He is the best math teacher that I have ever had.I never thought I would ever get better than an "B" in a Math Class and I passed his calss with an "A".He is very helpful,if you ever need help he is more than willing. He is very passionat about Math and knows the subject extremely well.
He is one of the most fair teachers that I have met.I use to hate math because of my 145 teacher. Mr. Young chnaged my mind about math, by making it interesting and fun.He is one of the best teachers at GCC.
Ok, i've been taking math103 with Mr.Young, and i am lucky, because i'll stuck with him as long as i can. i'm taking 104 now, and he is the most clear profesor i've known, he is very helpful, and explains VERY WELL! his tests are not easy, but all ost important questions will be asked, he's not testing u on knowing any additional stuff. I <3 Young
bad Teacher!
Talks too fast. When we ask questions on homework talks alot but doesn't really explain.
the best math teacher at GCC. If you want to learn math, eventhough you do not like the subject, take his class.
WoW...this teacher rocks.very cool personality and very down to earth. He talked about his family and made the class up at nights.(night class)I really like this huy and I'm gonna take him for statistics for sure...Because it all about Mr. Young
He's has the ability to make math a plesant experience by breaking the monotony with life stories and jokes. In his class expect to do loads of work, however this better prepares you for his diffcult exams. Attempt every problems on exams because he is very generous on partial credit.
Mr. Young is a very generous person, but do not assume that you will pass just by showing up. You are required to study and understand every concept that's articulated in the 119 curriculum. I liked his approach to teaching - he doesn't penalize students for minor mistakes. Very punctual, and takes his job seriously. You should too.
Horrible class!! He explains the simplest things in a VERY disorganized manner and then suddenly starts talking about politics/family,etc!! Makes the class sooo confusing!! I didnt find him funny, but rather annoying. He is a nerd who thinks the class time is for talking nonsense. Dont take him unless ur out of ur mind and think he is really funny
first off, Easy tests...so not hard to get a grade ...BUT..he is a horrible teacher..talks sooooo fast and jumps from one thought to another to another..made things very confusing/unclear... he is a good man, only not fit to teach
dont take him if u are a slow learner.he is very fast so if you miss it then that's it. his notes are not organized at all he writes things here and there also during class, its all about him. he wants to talk abt his family for the half of the class its calc he needs to talk abt calc we dont hav time!plz can u plz realize that by yourself? young!
this teacher is an A$$ Hole dont take him on self paced classes. You do the problem right but make and error of copying he marks it wrong in other words doesnt see if you know the problem or not dont take him bad teacher for self paced
i cant put into words how disorganized this man is. hell talk about math and then randomly his family. all he likes to do is brag about how he is soo good at math and how hes one of a kind person who loves to do math. instead of teachin he talks about his family! tests are hard too BAD TEACHER CANNOT TEACH AT ALL! HE HAS ADD DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Positive Points: Easy tests, lots of partial credit on test's problems. Negative points: teaches too fast with poor quality. Talking too much about his family.
he is one of the bests. his tests are easy and grads very fair(lots of partial credits); although he talks too much some times it is usefull, just listen what he says he may put it as an extra credit in tests.
He is so great. He does his best. He is very nice, funny, smart, and very fair. no one should complain about him. com'on, no one is perfect.
dont take his stats class...its a disaster trust me.
take his classes, he only covers the very basis of statistic, and he makes it easy to understand, and a very fun teacher. i think he's cute....
Don't take his class. He doesn't know how to explain. Believe me you will have hard time and you won't learn anything. His lectures are unclear. Don't take him.
Mr Young talks more about his family than statistics. I ended up dropping the classes because he didn't explain well and his quiz and test were difficult compared to what he taught, or tried to teach.
best friggin math teacher i have ever had, this guy is bas as$, his tests are pretty easy, well at least for math 119. trust me if you dont like math and your having a hard time, take Mr. Young hes a great teacher and a good person. too bad he doesnt teach 120...
Mr. Young is a very positive math teacher. Some math teachers don't take the time to give you a pat on the back. I recently had a math teacher that didn't even want to teach 145, he thought it was beneath him. Mr. Young is the complete opposite. He really tries to help students achieve their goal.
This is a math stats course. I had him for summer, i dropped his class because we did not have any practices in class. All we could do is watch him do the work for us. And be left alone to do our homework at home Which was a lot of it for a summer class. The homework hardly matched what he was teaching in class.
He is a really nice guy. I like the way he grades tests, but i think he doesnt know how to explain the math problems. For 119 he was ok for me because it was kinda review but if you are just learning the subject dont take him because he explains really fast and you wont get anything.
The best math teacher. this is the second time i am taking his classes(146,119) and he is still in my best teachers list. I love you Mr. Young. T.G.
His a very good professor, he goes over any question regarding the homework, and if u dont understand anything, just raise your hand, eventhough its a stupid question. He's class is somewhat easy if this was the only class ur taking for summer. He'll drop the lowest test, not the final . 3 test, one final, one project, HW, quizes. Can u handle it?
The BEST math teacher in the entire college. He teaches very well and explains everything even hundred times if needed. Very FAIR grader. His tests aren't easy but aren't hard either. I really hope he will teach Math 107 too.
Great teacher. Told stories. Very fun. Taught from the book so you could zone out out when he wasn't telling stories. Nice guy too.
Very helpful, lenient, organized, and willing to explain everything! Gives points for HW and extra credit. What else can a student ask for? This professor is soooo cool!!! I wish he taught every math class at GCC!
He is a good teacher. He tries his best to explain everything clearly. He tends to go off topic and talk about his wife a little bit too much. His tests are not too hard, just learn all the functions in the calculator and that will help a lot. I started not too strong but at the end ended up with an A.
he is a very nice and helpful teacher. he give more partial credit than other math teachers.
great teacher! n verry HOT
Funniest math teacher ever. He REEAAAALLLYYY loves math.... a bit TOO much if you ask me. Oh, and HE's SUPER HOTT!! ;) he's also helpful, clear, lenient, gives extra credit and grades fairly. He can also talk for 3 hours straight without running out of things to say. Hehe.
Hes not bad or good. Teaches WAY too fast, and notes are pretty useless cause hes so unorganized. BUT, tests are VERY easy as long as you study from the book, and his office hours are pretty helpful. Just that he teaches too damn fast, so you cant take notes while he lectures or youll totally miss what hes talking about. Wait till hes done talking.
he talks really really fast and his hand writing sucks on the board, so basically you gottt to study really good before his lectures and his tests are really really fair not tricky at all, he's a every nice and funny guy he'll help you out as much as he can and he's in love with math :)
Young is a good teacher, he teaches well and helps you understand the material, i barely went to class and just did the homework and i got a B, his tests are very fair, if youve done the HW youll be set. ANd make sure to do the Extra hw assignments for Extra credit it helps your grade! Hes very nice and fun also , you wont be bored in his class!
One of the best math teachers at GCC. His tests are really easy if you put time into studying. He assigns a lot of homework but its only worth like 5% of your grade.
Hot teacher (wanted us to rate him hot). Oh and he's a kickass professor. Do the HW and you'll know whats going on. If you dont do the hw then NOTHING will sense in the class. Also drink lots of coffee before going to his class... he writes very very fast and writes all over the place. So you need to be alert to not get lost in his notes.
MR YOUNG THIS IS KAYANE JOHN. YOU ARE REDDD HOTTT :) WONDERFUL, FLEXIBLE, LOVELY, SUPER FUNNY, CLEAR, INTELLIGENT, QUICK, AND U KNOW WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT THATS Y UR CLASS IS CLOSED WAY BEFORE ANY OTHER TEACHERS.
HOTTTT TEACHER :)
Professor Young is extremely enthusiastic towards everything that is related to math. He brings A LOT of energy into a subject that I'm used to having taught by an instructor with a monotone and boring voice. His exams are fairly straight forward and you will definitely get an A if you complete and understand the homework.
He is the best teacher! I loved his way of teaching. Do your work and you get a good grade. Thank you Ms. Young for being a great teacher.
I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE BROWNIESSSSS!!!!!!!!
Before I took this class, I loved math, then I had Young...well long story short, me and math haven't spoken since, thank you young, thank you very much!!!one!11!!1!
Professor Young is fantastic, he truly wants to help you out. Math is his world. He is there for his students - supporting & caring - too bad there isn't more math teachers like him. Take his classes, what ever they are - you won't be sorry.
Andy made Math class fun, with his silly jokes. A complete lovable goof ball.
He is not too hard, it just that you have to read the notes that he gives you. The test are not too hard.
Power point lectures, does not give examples in class to make it easier to understand lectures. Talks fast. Picky. Tests are not that hard
An absolutely wonderful and helpful individual. We def need more prof like him. Not only is he HOTT but also super interesting to listen to! He really loves to help people and see you succeed! His class is challenging yet reasonable. I highly recommend him!
JUST STUDY
I am currently taking him now so does anyone who has had him for Stats have any advice for me about the tests? lol I do my hw and i get most of it, but im still not sure how his tests will be. HELP :/
class can be a bit hectic especially if you're behind in the book. otherwise, it's quite interesting, he has a good sense of humor along with a good temper.
Mr. Young is a wonderful individual and professor. He is sooooooooo helpful! He has plenty of office hours if you need help, you just have to approach him. He also assigns a lot of homework but it only helps you do good on the tests. His tests arent that hard. If you can do the hw you can pass his tests. highly recomend him! I love you Mr.Y!
Mr.Young is a quite a character! This guy knows his math inside and out, and his passion for it sometimes rubs off on you. Another thing, he really knows how to teach. I mean, I've come across brilliant professors but who can't teach if their lives depended on it. Young really takes his job seriously, even though he may go off on lots tangents
this prof is really straightforward and clear in what he expects from you. He never asks you anything trivial on his exams. I don't look for 'easy A' profs and I wouldn't exactly consider him one. A good prof is someone who can deliver the material in a crystal clear manner n' he can. exams are just at the level of difficulty that they should be.
Dr Young I did what you asked me to do.)))))))))it was a pleasure being in your class.
Professor Young is so passionate about math, especially Calculus, it's amazing to have a professor who loves his subject THAT much! He does explain all problems and is helpful during office hours. The grade distribution is 50% tests and 50% FINAL. Overall it was great but difficult but math 104 is a pain in the *** no matter who the professor is.
MATH IS A HARD SUBJECT, BUT HE TRIES TO MAKE IT EASIER. HE IS REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL.
very good snd fun teacher
He's a great help when you don't understand something, explains everything really well. The only thing I hated about this class is his jokes and the fact that he talks way too much. His jokes are somewhat funny, and because he talked so much we had to rush through some chapters.
Great professor.. show up to class.. read the notes.. and do the homework you will do fine :)
DON'T EVER TAKE HIS CLASS !!! he is the rudest and the most disrespectful teacher I have ever seen in my entire life !!! He could care less about you as a human being and will just run that mouth with none-sense! Doesn't teach****. If you wanna learn something and don't be treated like a dog AVOID HIM! Hated him and his class UGGGHHHH
He is the best professor ever. I took in summer and it was really hard for me with full time work. Easy on grading if you are in class all the time and do your home work and project. He replace final grade with one of the exams if it was lower than your final.
Loved the class and learned a lot. The professor knew his stuff and you can tell he loves what he teaches. Pay attention to class, follow his exact instructions, and you will do fine in his class. Don't pay attention to the bad review, I think it was from one of the girls who were caught cheating.
stay away!!!!he is the worst teacher...doesnt do any problems in class! and when u ask him to do a problem from the hw you didnt understand his answer is "i'll do it on the review day which is one day before the test" he teaches off powerpoint and doesnt give u any actual examples from ur homework. class ended w/ about 15 ppl left in the class.
Based on my personal experience: I learned more about his personal life than I learned about Stats itself; talks way too fast; the textbook is incomprehensible; only allows one hour for the test, about which the whole class complained but he didn't care; seems quite impatient when asked questions; didn't return the homework; etc.
Beware: He claims to grade on effort over accuracy, yet he'll take points off your test if a bar on your histogram is thicker than the rest of them. Same goes for pie charts...if a section of the pie chart doesn't look like "20%" then off go your points! I know from experience...I guess my eyes deceived me.
this man says he loves teaching but doesnt ever teach! he sits and reads off powerpoints every session and does not do any problems in clas, very impatient, does not care about his students at all, just a bad bad professor.
People, I can honestly say he is the best math teacher I've ever had. He is always available for help, and he will explain what you don't understand until you get it right. My only criticism is sometimes he talks too much, but just stay on top of the homework and ask for help. Mr. Young, thank you so much for helping me get an A! You're awesome :-)
Nice Person. I learned alot. Thx Mr. Young.
Math professors are always smart but he is way above the average smart man. Therefore, I enjoyed listening to him. However, if you can self-teach, then this is the class for you. He doesn't put enough effort to teach very well with examples. Do all the HWs or else you pretty much won't get half of the test because doing the HW is like self-teaching
Overall he is a good math professor. There is alot of homework. He is very picky on the test so follow his exact directions. Test starts of easy -medium-medium/hard. DO NOT TALK ALOT IN HIS CLASS!
Even though I didnt understand any of the material he thought in class cause I couldnt focus, i still ended up getting a B! I did really bad on all the tests but on the final I read the book page by page and everything clicked and I got an A on the final!!! He is very helpful but you have to focus in class or just read the book and teach yourself!
The best math teacher EVER! Very clear and easy to ask for help. I'm having the hardest time trying to find someone who even compares to him. Take him!!! Loves to talk about his daughter and wife.
Mr. Young is the best math teacher in the whole world.... you must take his class!!!!!! He is very fair... so STUDY it wont kill you..... i wish i can take all the math classes he teaches! oh and i forgot to mention hes a hottie!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a human he is one of the nicest I have ever seen, but as a calculus teacher I think he is almost the worst one in the class. However, he is really helpful when u ask him any question in the office. you dont need to be in his class even if you want to get an A.
I am currently taking him in the Summer session and for someone who honestly sucks at Math and understands NOTHING and that hasn't taken a math class for 4 years Young is the best guy to take. He explains everything so clearly and is a lot of help. GREAT TEACHER! And the tests are super easy just do the hw and PAU ATTENTION!! I GOT AN A!
Mr. Young is a great teacher, he is patient, he is always excited to simplify the problems or show us multiple ways of getting to the answer. I truly appreciate his sense of humor, his stories about Computers, his wife and his Daughter, he makes us feel like we can be successful at Math and I truly appreciate it... Way to go and Thank you for ever
Very nice teacher, gives all the slides so you do not have to write down the notes. His tests are easier than the homework which is nice. The class was tedious at times, but all in all it was okay. He is a really nice man and he gives a lot of help in the office hours.
Not clear at all, just one hour for a test that needs 2.
i took his class cause i thought i took the course in the highschool so it wouldnt be a nightmare. i droped the class, cause he wasnt teaching math, he was lecturing by a projector and a lazor point pen.you have to do a huge amount of homework, and be incredibly smart to do the by the time.no extra credit.and incredibly unfair.many droped the class
useless!unfair and likes challenging students for no reason!if u want TO SCREW UR GPA, then go ahead n take him!!
his tests are not that hard but you have to do lots of homeworks. In the beginning of the semester, he spent time for talkig about his family, not teaching.According to the syllabus, we had to have 5 tests but at the end, he said we don't have time so he deleted 2 tests (wth!) we took ch. 7.8.12 which are the hardest tests!!!! lack responsibility
I think he is very good teacher and I would recommend him. However,I am agree with comment said we didn't have time for section 9,10 and 11.If you are a good student it's not important having 3 or 4 test.If you didn't make first 3 test how come you want to have 2 more test from hardest chapters of the book.Math 104 is hard regardless of teacher.
Regardless of the grade I got, Professor Young is a fantastic professor and clearly loves the subject.
PROF.YOUNG, IS AN AWESOME TEACHER. HIS LECTURES ARE NOT CLEAR BUT HIS SUCHA A NICE GUY. I LOVED BEING IN HIS CLASS HIS REALLY FUNNNY. IF YOUR LAZY AND DONT STUDY YOULL FAIL BECAUSE HIS LECTURES ARE NOT CLEAR. HIS TESTS ARE DIFFICULT, HE TESTS ON THEORIES MORE THAN JUST SOLVING PROBLEMS. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MATH DEN YOULL FAIL. DONT PISS HIM OF.
If all math teachers could be like him, then the world would be better educated. He is the best teacher ever and truly cares about his students. Mr. Young loves math and will talk to you about it anytime in his office. I will take ALL of his classes!!!!!
sucked big time, i spent all my fall just studying for his tests,he explains the stuff unclear then gives them 100X harder on the tests.
He is definitely a good guy and he knows his math, overall a very good professor. My only complaint is that LITERALLY half of class time is spent talking about things completely irrelevant to math, this alone made me dread coming to his class - it made it extremely boring for me. But, he is very fair in grading and will answer all questions.
The first class I ever dropped (at my 4th semester or so at GCC). He is very unclear, and digresses a lot. Not a great professor on any level. This is one of those classes that you can't depend on the professor to be taught. You will have to learn everything by yourself if you are up to it. Highly recommend skipping him and taking another teacher.
I had to drop this class. He was horrible for calc 1, very unorganized, doesn't use examples, and overall not helpful at all. Expect to either spend a lot of money on tutoring or teaching yourself. Only upside is that his tests aren't all that difficult. But I certainly recommend Talaoc, Paxton, Newberry, Massion, or Voden.
He does not teach well and you're going to end up teaching yourself everything. HOWEVER his tests are not hard. I wouldn't suggest taking his class if you really want to learn the material.
He is so helpful and enjoys answering your questions. His tests are easy but not enough time to completely solve the test because the tests are too long. Sometimes, his lectures don't cover the materials that are required for doing the homework.
Prof. Young is very enthusiastic about math and needless to say he is very good at it. But when it comes to teaching, he often speeds through the examples what makes it hard to follow the steps while taking notes. Very fair grader though and the tests are fairly easy.
he's very confusing, and his reviews for tests are rarely helpful. doesn't teach by sections but rather by concepts, so he's usually all over the place, which makes him hard to follow. he makes his tests relatively do-able but there's only so much you can learn on your own.
Andrew Young is great professor, will stay entire night to help you understand things that were not clear to you, it wasn't his office hours but he still would stay however long needed. this helped me a lot.
Great teacher, that will stay hours after class to try to make you understand the topic. Which helped me a lot.
He is very good teacher. He explains every thing very well. However, I would like to see more examples in his lectures.Overall he is very good teacher.I recommend him for everyone.
Prof. Young is a great professor very helpful and kind. His teaching is very clear and he explains everything. His tests are a little bit long but if you go to his lectures and do your homework you will be fine.
As someone who's hated math & failed multiple math courses in the past (high school/college)- I can say, without a doubt, that Mr. Young is the best professor I've ever had! I don't even understand how I enjoyed this class. I'm an art major who has no interest in the subject! He changed my mind. He's funny, He's considerate & he teaches very well.
Mr. Young is very considerate and helpful. You can tell that he is very passionate about teaching which i think is a necessary quality especially for math teachers. I never really liked math but i got an A in his class. He knows his stuff very well and is always fun to talk to. Overall he is a great professor!
Way too much homework. It only counts for 5% of your grade. We cover 3 sections a night and there is over 50 problems to do for each section. That means your having to do 150 problems a night. Talks really fast during his lectures and confuses the class.
Over 5 hours of homework per night plus 3.5 hours of classroom. Be ready to dedicate over 8 hours a day to this class. He spends more time talking about theories and himself then actually teaching. He is scattered brained so his lectures are very confusing.
Do not take this class if you want to learn. He talks way toooo much!
He is a good teacher and has his funny moments. There is lots of hw for a short session but his test are reasonable.
Professor Young is great!! Yes, he does assign a lot of homework, but it is very beneficial with preparing you for his test. I definitely recommend people take his class.
Why is it a problem that he tells interesting (sometimes) stories from time to time? Most of the students can't pay attention to a mathematical lecture the entire hour anyway so might as well tell some stories to let the students recharge their batteries. Also, he knows the material so he's very reliable.
Very confusing and talks way to much. Doesn't try to help you if you do not know the material. If you are good with math you will do fine, but if you are poor in math you will feel lost when he is teaching the subject.
Professor Young is so passionate about math. Math is like a different language and if you can't keep up with him, then you'll fall behind. He knows his stuff but his teaching is the complete opposite. He makes it up by giving easier exams than other Calc professors though. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Don' screw up the final it's 40% :)
Great guy. This class runs like 3 hours, and if its at night, even worse because you're tired. He tries his best, really, he does. Don't fall behind on homework, and you'll be okay trust.
he's a nice guy but not a good math teacher. his exams are also not that hard , just make sure you do the homework
He sometimes goes off on non-related tangents that can take time needed for instruction. That being said Mr. Young is beyond fair in his grading. I had him for 103 and I found his teaching of the basics of derivatives and integration to be very helpful and thoughtful. You HAVE to do the homework, and that really is a good rule for math.
I would not recommend this professor. He's way to quick and expects students to follow him throughout his lecture. Though his tests were somewhat easier than one would imagine, I prefer a teacher who explains things with more detail and reassurance that everyone follows what they are trying to teach.
He is one of the best math techers I have met. I still don't know my grade, but if I get less thatn an A is because I did not do hw since I work full time and it was a lot. However, mmy test were on the 90's. Thanks professor
Hands down one of the best math teachers at GCC. He really know his stuff and is always there to help. The best part is, if you do all your homework you can pass the tests. I can't say that for half of the math teachers here. Take good notes, listen to what he says is important, and listen what kind of problems he "likes", and do your homework.
I don't recommend his class ; boring class No one stays in his lecture You should learn by yourself
Math is NOT my favorite subject but I thrived in his class. Mr. Young's explanations are clear and easy to understand, he makes math seem easy. He does give a lot of homework but it's all for the benefit of learning the material, and in turn testing well. He does go on quite a bit about personal stuff but it's to keep the environment litefun.
This instructor is patient and thorough, will explain a problem as many times as he needs to until you understand. He makes class fun (although he can talk!). Always gives extra credit. Will go over any and all problems needed. Good Instructor.
worst calculus professor ever
very very hard tests. he gives something that you have never even seen in books.
worthless notes you are better of if don't take him.
It is very clear that this professor loves math. He teaches very clearly because he takes time to do many examples in class. His tests are what you would expect if you do the homework. Even though he did not waste time to get through class it always seemed like we had trouble covering all of the material. I recommend extra practicing and reading.
The professor's lectures can be confusing since he does his own concept/equations instead of going by the book. He's really fast on the lectures. You need to keep up. 5 test & 4 quizzes. At first easy but then it gets hard. Assigns homework & collects them. He'll put in the effort to help you but again his own way not the book. Practice or FAIL.
He really is a great professor. He loves to help, he wants you to pass. He is more than willing to stay and help you after or before class. If he isn't clear he encourages you to ask questions. He totally loves math, and he gives you a life lesson every once and a while. He's very aware that math isnt easy for everyone and loves to help.
He is honestly one of my favorite professors that i have taken at GCC. He's very helpful, and if you don't understand something, he definitely takes the time to explain to you. Very Great professor. plus, he's funny!
Nice man, very approachable, but teaching style is all over the place ¬ very clear. Sort of forgets the students are learning the material for the first time. Encourages his office hours &always stays after class to answer questions which is nice. I just dont think hes very good at explaining. Too much useless hw, but an A is doable. OK choice
He is a nice professor but not very good at teaching. His lectures are confusing because he doesn't explain his work even on the new material, so the notes you take in class are useless. This makes a difficult class like 104 even more challenging. Gives lots of homework. You'll need to spend lots of time outside of class studying.
Does not give enough examples in his lectures. Teaches and talks so fast so you get confused in learning new materials. Assigns lots of homework so if you work full time, then you'll have problems turning in the homework assignments on time in order to get a full credit. But the good news is that he accepts late homework assignments.
The man is more concerned with his ways than actually teaching the students. First time i've ever stayed away from a professor, i will not take him again for Math 104. Furthermore, the amount of time spent in this class affected my ability to prepare in other classes. But the disappointment when you realize his tests aren't even fair.
Horrible !! He doesnot know how to teach not fair grader
Working on a career change. I consider myself a hardworker, mostly As never a C with a degree from UCLA under my belt. Never in my life have i felt so miserable in class. Took this course over the winter break with another prof and got an A. Even if you succeed, i doubt you'll feel it was worth it. Save yourself while you can and avoid him
I truly enjoyed class with Andrew Young. He was very entertaining and would talk a lot about his personal life (which was funny). His lectures weren't amazing but his tests were very fair and he offered a lot of extra credit. Most of all I loved that we didn't have to show up to class and everyone got 100% in participation. Ok teacher.
Please do yourself a favor and take Professor Young. He is very caring, kind, and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. He does assign A LOT of homework, but his tests are very similar to the problems found in the textbook so do them! There is no way you will pass any higher up math class without doing problems endlessly.
Very fair professor. Even though he may not be the best lecturer, his course is the best choice out of all the other calc professors. His grading is more than generous in his exams. Make sure you really understand the concepts behind the homework and chapters, and you should be able to pass. Highly recommend him.
Great Professor, if you pay attention in class and do the homework you will get the grade you want simple as that. he loves math and is some real eye candy i mean he's the most attractive math professor I've ever seen.
He's very nice and caring. Not the best lecturer but is nice and caring. The material, however, is VERY hard and you really have to spend lots of time outside in order to get an A or a B. His tests aren't as tough as other professors tho. He's willing to answer any questions you have. Very passionate about math.
Thanks to him,I learned how to teach myself. He does not teach concepts step by step or show examples that are relative to the test. He's a nice guy but doesn't teach anything. Like, if we're learning about limits, he needs to explain what limits are. Instead, he just selects a random problem from the book and starts solving it without explanation.
Prof Andrew Young is a difficult math professor but if you will focus on his class and his lecture, do your assignment according to the schedule, you will definitely get an A. He always give a consideration on the math solutions. he also receive late home works. but don't be cocky do your best in the class. God bless!
Professor Young is a very caring and good teacher but he is very tough on grading. He wants you to write the answers in specific forms that he likes or else you will loose points even if the answer is correct. Attendance is mandatory if you want an A. Overall he is helpful and you can always go to him for help he will never say no.
His lectures were not the best. I did a lot of self-teaching but hes kind and caring and ALWAYS available to answer questions before and after class. His test will cover exactly what he reviews theirs no surprises.
His lectures were not the best. I had to do a lot of self-teaching but hes extremely caring and kind Professor. His test will cover what he reviewed and theres no surprises. Hes always available to answer questions and help.
I read the reviews, took him, and regretted it. No major extra credits were given (only one problem on tests) and the "non-selected" homework problems were 2 points extra credit. His lectures are the worst because he doesn't explain the materials clearly, had to teach myself. Emailed him about a problem I was having and said, "ask your classmates".
He is a very knowledgeable , nice, patient, and kind professor . He knows a lot about the math .He teach very well you can learn everything in class. The exams are easy from the book no surprise . I didn't like two things of his class. First, homework is too much more than enough .Second, He speak too much about his family make class so boring.
Best Math teacher I have ever had! The lectures are personal, however, it helped me remember concepts on the tests. He is truly passionate about math and life. He wants his students to understand and pass this class. He is available by email and has convenient office hours. He is extremely patient and will go thru things step by step as needed.
He was an ok teacher. We didnt get to cover all the material in class. He always teaches past the schedule and always forgets to give us our break. He is very nice and respectful and teaches us with a lot of examples. Sometimes he expects us to know the material just based off the examples. He assigns A LOT of homework.
There's a TON of homework, you'll be spending 10 hours a week on homework, tests are relatively easy, but this class should be taken by itself because it will take all your time. In my class, nobody did the homework because it was just ridiculous. only a handful passed, everyone else dropped. dont take this class if you care about your gpa
Professor Young is great. I took him for Calc 1 and Stats. He cares about his students and he will go out of his way to help you understand. Go to his office hours and ask lots of questions, he will explain things to you without giving you any attitude. Show up to class and pay attention and you will do great.
His tests aren't too bad compared to other professors and he curves heavily sometimes. BUT the final is a huge part of your grade so depending on how you do it really make or breaks your grade. If you usually don't do well on cumulative finals I wouldn't take him. He's also awful at lecturing.
Took this class Spring 2020. Transition to online was pretty smooth, he was good with technology. LITERALLY SO MUCH HOMEWORK! All odd problems from every section we learned. To be fair, he didn't really grade them too harshly, but still it was a lot. Gave pretty hefty curves, tests were pretty straightforward.
Be prepared for a substantial workload as homework assignments are plentiful, which can prove to be challenging and arduous. However, this demanding experience ultimately lays a robust groundwork for success in the calculus 3 class. Remember the age-old adage: no pain, no gain.
