Has a tendency to cram a lot into one class period. The book asks questions she hasnt taught us how to do.
She made learning a lot of the material fairly difficult, the substitute was better then her.
She talks slow. Doesn't wait for students to answer. Not very good at explaining when students don't understand. Somewhat intimidating. Lot's of homework. However, I've had worse. :)
I totally enjoyed this class. I think Andy is cute in an awkward, nerdy math teacher sort of way and it kept me interested through all the lectures. Plus she certainly knows what she is doing when it comes to math.
This instructor writes terrible tests and quizes. Even if u know your material very well, you may still get a B. She is stuburn
She's brutal. People dropped like flies from this class and most who remained regretted staying. Trust me when I say that you should take ANYONE ELSE.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Although she is nice as a person, her teaching style is horrible. She, for instance, taught us the hardest section (the word problems) just three minutes before the end of the class and the next day we had a test on them. No wonder why the entire class almost faled. I am disappointe
A very nice person, but an ineffective teacher - not enough time given to elaborate and complex new basics. Too much reliance on homework problems for class work, then not enough time left over for new concepts.
She was way tuff, but I got an A, and by the time she was done with me I understood the matierial very well.
TERRIBLE! As many others have stated, she rushes through important material in the last minutes of class, even though it is past time to leave. She then expects you to pass a quiz/test the next day covering the material. She also will not answer all questions, only those that SHE feels are importan
I am semi-pleased w/ my final grade & I understood most of the material, yet I found I had to teach most of it to myself. Like the last person stated, she taught a section (sometimes two) within the last 3mins of class & then quized us the next day. I don't recommend her. Not helpful at all.
Very Helpful. She went over homework in class, if people are rude she lets them know. Take this class if you want to learn something, its not an easy A but its a great expierence.
BAD. Starts off ok but then just gets worse and worse. Crams WAY TOO MUCH in at the last second of class. Tests and quizzes are not on stuff on reviews. TOO HARD (and I'm not a bad student), don't take.
She is an okay instructor, but she rushes through material like nobody's business. Her tests and quizzes are very hard. No extra credit, plus she is really anal about getting answers in their exact form and not as decimals(means lots and lots of ugly fractions, including varaibles and logs).
She is not a very good teacher - expects you to know things that she doesn't go over and doesn't go over tests. She DOES go over some homework, but it's usually the kind that isn't even put on her tests - she does rush through material, and doesn't explain very well. Condescending, too.
She is tough. I didn't like the way she tests. Her lectures are weird and you have to understand almost everything by yourself. If you take her...Good luck dude!

Horrible teacher!!! OMG!!! You ask her questions, she gives you a round-a-bout answer that never truly answers the question... I mean come on...
Im surprised she is still employeed!!!
Horrible teacher. Just gives us problems on the board everyday does not TEACH mat at all. She thinks that she is a high school teacher and treats us like high school students. Very strict in class and not a good teacher.
Unfair and inconsistant grading on tests and quizes. The homework rarely applies to what's on the tests. I do not recommend this instructor for 107, as the concepts can be hard to grasp, and it's hard to learn on your own (which is what you'll be doing if you take her class)
Grading is WAY too hard. If you put a + instead of a - she would take off like 3 points. Not recommended for ANY math. Too much homework. I spent 20+ hours a week on homework and still got a B in her class. Take Akhlaghi, he is a MUCH better teacher.
Her lectures are very confusing and do nothing to further student learning. I was able to succeed in spite of her apparent efforts to the contrary. Her tests are very poorly written, and not designed to be finished in the 50-minutes alloted. I would not recommend Villines to my worst enemy. She's a disservice to students!
I was very disappointed with the way Villines taught the class. She would only do a few homework problems on the board, rush through a few sample problems and move on. Every test and quiz was cummulative and notes were not allowed, because of the wording of the exam it was hard to understand what she meant even AFTER she explained. NOT recommended
Don't take her! Confusing lectures, tests, does nothing to explain difficult problems. Take Aklaghi or Hoffman if you have a choice.
Best most informative math teacher i have ever had. very understanding for the grading proccess, and ask for more.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS...Unless you're a straight A student who would enjoy hours of busy-work nightly and wants to know what a C on your transcript looks like =)...
Reminded me of high school. Threatened to kick students out of class for a day if their cell phone rang? It happens deals with it Villines! Her tests were so so. Her grading is very harsh though. Gives paritial credit but if you have a - insted of a +, 3 points off of 4 total!? WTF! I wouldn't take her again. Avoid.
She is not willing to help you at all with the class. very unreasonable. You will spend hours doing homework that does not even pertain to the tests. Mostly talks to the white board. I would not recommend taking any class with her. I feel she does not care at all about student success. Very poor teacher.
i thought she was a very well rounded teacher. incredibly helpful and reasonable. i absolutely hate math, but she was a great teacher, and id recommend her. she doesnt make things hard, and always tries to make sure you understand.
OMG Worst teacher ever. Totally ignores students and just blabbers about who knows what all day, over half of my class failed or dropped out cause she sucked so bad. She knows how to do math but she can't teach worth****.
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! Workload is off the wall AND if you do all the work, you still can barely get a B!!!! Even if you know your material, it don't matter here....
if you want to learn math, you got to take her class. I'm a math tutor, i know how hard is it to teach math.
she is kinda crazy with too much work
I had to take the class over....after getting a c- in her class. so hse is kinda hard, if you dont do math well....
She gives tests/quizzes like all the time. She is not willing to work with you. My friend had to go to WSU for a campus visit and she wouldn't let him take a quiz early even though he gave her 2 weeks notice!!! He got a zero on it. I really don't like her.
She is a sucky teacher. During the quarter, she said "don't worry about your grade, just learn", and finally she sucked grading. She gave us stupped prove question on exams, and we had to wast two days for suck math prijects.
Very clear and eays to udnerstand, very helpful
She is a good teacher. I went into her office in mornings to ask questions. She loved it. I would say 'are you busy?' Every time, she would smile and say 'NO! I love talking math. This is why I work here!' She is loves to help you! She cares about her students. And its not her fault if people dont do their hw. Thats your job. Sorry.
Ms. Villines is nice and cares that her students understand math. She explains difficult formulas and equations VERY CLEARLY! Make sure to do and hand in homework, and attend class regularly.
Very Difficult. I attended all classes, did all the homework and projects, studied an average of 5-8 hours before quizzes and tests and struggled all the way through the course. She is very nice and loves math, but goes too quickly through the material even when the class asked her to slow down because the concepts weren't clear.
She is a good teacher. Its not her fault that she covers the material so quickly, I mean come on, these classes cover what you would cover in a year in HS. And still you dont finish the book! Just go to her on office hours and she will help you thoroughly. By visiting, I came to know what she was looking for,and that prepared me well for her tests.
If you are a slacker at all cost do not take this class! You have at least 2 hours of homework to do EVERYDAY! But study and know your homework and you will be fine. Test and exams are kind of hard, so be sure to fully understand the chapter. And the notes you take in class won't be helpfull for her test. Basicly just do your homework all 100 of it
The class was difficult. She moves through the material quickly and it wouldn't pay to miss class. She spends plenty of time explaining the material and is very helpful in that way. I think she is very fair in her grading standards and would gladly take her class again.
the teacher was really nice, but her tests were torture. all tests were on all chapters, even the quizzes. sometimes we didnt get enough time to finish. this course was very hard. i would not take this teacher again.
Even though she goes really fast through the material, she is not a good teacher for the class to run at that pace. Come on, more than half of the class misunderstood the way she explained. SHe is not enthusiastic and not very outgoing.
She assigns tons of homework and grades very harsh. Some people like this because it helps them to understand the material better, but I'd venture to say that most people aren't understanding what she's teaching. I wouldn't recommend her.
Teaching pace is fast. Assume that it is because we are in quarter system. She is always available whenever we need her help. Lots of homework for us to practice what we have learned. Low mark? She gives many chances for students to recover from that. It is up to the students how hard they work because chances are given. Excellent professor.
doesnt give enough time for tests!
Horrible, Horrible teacher. Doesnt explain things clearly, most of class time is wasted on "projects" (which are just homework problems). Tests dont reflect what was learned in class, and minimal explanation is given for missed questions. Dont take her unless you absolutely dont have another choice.
She is wonderfull. A really good teacher, if you have the chance, and if you love math take her class. She explains everything clear and fast. There is a lot of homework, bonus and you can redo the homework and she'll give you more points. You'll need a lot of effort to succed. She really knows what she is teaching, and she is a math master.
she's great! there are a lot of work but everything is realy helpful! she explains so clearly. i trully recomend her
Andria is such a nice person. She really cares about her students and wants to be sure they understand what the material is. She gives a lot of homework for little credit, but at least she's kind.
She is very very tough. Never ever take her. She knows math but she don't knows how to teach maths.
is ok at explaining things and all, she knows her stuff no doubt. Unfortunately she dosent understand her stuudents dont. very picky grader on the tests. Make sure you round to the right place and include units!
Villines is a nice person. I appreciated the one on one time during her office hours, but unfortunatley, there were many students going for help. She'll explain things in class, but even the slightest mistake on H.W. will cost you - and she hates to discuss mistakes in class! I hate to say it, but she is knit-picky.
Confused teacher. She is unorganized and doesn't explain well in class. Take someone with more knowledge of the material who wont screw up your GPA. Would never recomend this instructor.
She is an extremely helpful teacher, though she is a bit meticulous, she will do anything she can to help you earn the grade you deserve. She's always there to help and is patient. It's personally nice to have a teacher that doesn't treat you like a complete idiot when they are trying to teach you something!
She has a great personality and I got an A just because i took statistics in high school. Never take unless you have to, she does not know how to teach, no guidelines, too much homework for small points. She is Extreme on grading no extra credit. Her exams are long and hard. Every test is comprehensive and without review
Thought it would be a great class but it was terrible. If you asked a question she would kinda look at you and ask you how to do it...NO IDEA! Shes ridiculis.
Ok She is a great person... But her teaching is terrible! She doesnt take the time, shes so focused on getting to the next unit we dont have time to learn the one we are on.... I was miserable!
Very helpful, moved at a fast pace. With a strong Math background it is possible to keep up. Andy is very knowledgeable and willing to help when asked. Many students didn't complete homework and fell behind, then wanted her to use class time to get them up to speed. My main complaint is that she was very slow to return homework and exams.
Seriously, she is a very nice teacher, but you don't learn crap. She only got me more confused every day. I am *usually* an A student in math, but I got a D in her class. Extremely hard tests, way too much HW. And "projects" (i.e. more HW problems). Wasted a lot of time in class
She is the best math teacher that I have had. She taught my statistics class and if it weren't for her I wouldn't have survived. I used up lots of her office hours and she was very gracious. She is very nice and cares a lot about her students. Statistics is a hard subject but that's not her fault. She does all she can to make it intelligible.
My worst teacher. First of all, I REALLY dislike when they can't write on the board & on your tests (Sloppy & crooked). 2nd, 2 much hw & gives VERY little credit 4 it as a part of ur grade. HW is easy, tests r hard if u don't study. To succeed, I really needed more time to study for this class which I didn't have. I had too many problems with her.
Andy is a fine teacher. Found it difficult to keep up in summer quarter, I think that if it had been a regular 10 week quarter it would have been a lot easier. The Calc textbook is really hard, and if you have to review on your own, you're in trouble. There is a lot of homework, and it is due daily. Tests were challanging, but she is good.
She was my favorite math teacher so far, I found her to be very helpful and excellent at making math make sense. Her class routine made the most out of our time and money.
Ms Villines is one of the best teachers I had. She couldn't be more helpful, explains everything very well, and respects her students. Her students can be comfortable to ask questions or for help.
Professor Villines makes herself very clear. She is totally interesting in making sure you understand the material. Almost too interested... because students in our class would lead her on tangents over simple things, then at the end of the quarter, we were pushing a chapter each day to catch up. Good teacher, but tough information.
Andria is ok. I'm getting an A but it is all because I am teaching myself. She only goes over problems that the class is struggling with. She is bias to younger students and not us older ones. Does not respond quickly to emails! Only helps during scheduled office hours. MUST read the book and do all the problems to understand concepts.
Suoer hard class. Strict on the way you turn in your homeowrk. Had two types of homework, the kind she graded for "correctness" and the just for fun kind that you got participation points for. Would not reccomned unless oyu are detail-oriented and like to work in groups.
She's really not that bad at all. Stats. is not an easy class but that's not her fault. I took it summer quarter and she allowed a sheet of notes, not a note card but a sheet! for every exam including the final! Come on it doesn't get easier then that! There is however lots of HW. I did it the day before it was due took about 6 hrs every time.
Andrea is a sweet teacher who knows her stuff. Kinda demanding in the homework, but thorough in her approaches. Hot!
Andria is by far one of the best professors I've ever had, and deserve every ounce of credibility she gets. She teaches a subject not many understand, and is kind enough to assist every one of her students. She is caring, intuitive, open-minded, and has a huge heart! She is passionate about her job, and you can tell everyday you walk in that class!
Tries really hard to be clear, takes the time to help you out and is willing to make extra office hours available to you if need be. She's very suspicious when it comes to missing classwork; makeups usually aren't allowed. A lot of questions on tests, butgrades fairly. Not a bad teacher at all, I recommend her if you don't have a favorite.
great teacher! knows her stuff!
Great teacher!! highly recommend!
Tons of HW, No extra credit, arrogant to the max. Not the worst at BC (as there are lots of bad teachers here) but you can do better. As Andria puts it herself," College is about suffering; if it's not painful, it's not college." I think that about sums it up. Proceed with her at your own risk!
Not clear and boaring, unnecessary discussions
she regularly went past the end of class causing us to be late to our next class. tests were difficult and tricky. her arrogance got in the way of her ability to reach us.I don't recommend her.
Ugh, do not even know where to begin.
The Homework Queen! Tests were unnessarily difficult, with tons of HW, even on exam days. On the last day of class, she was way behind so she gave us 6 sections of HW, along with a huge project, all due the day of final. Major transcript killer. DO NOT take her if you struggle in algebra.
I made a very big mistake by taking her class. I go to her class every day... I do the homework... But on the tests she gives some random stuff. She wants you to write your homework on notecards. Each problem on the different note card! And believe me...she will check each notecard. Do not take this teacher. She is so weird and not a good teacher.
Her comprehensive exams were unnecessarily difficult, and her mandatory homework that was due every day was burdensome. Every way she could make the class difficult she did. Weird! Do Not Take Her !!
If you are looking for a rigorous challenge in math then Andria is your teacher. If you wanna get an A, then plan on 5+ hours of homework daily. But if you struggle in algebra DO NOT TAKE HER !!!She will ruin your life!
I have to strongly disagree with all the coments posted below. I took Andrea's class last summer (2009) it was extremly helpfull and logical class. Not easy, no. Nobody said that math is easy!!! So, if you plan to be in class everyday and prepare your homewrok then you are a college student and will get a good grade. She is very fair and nice.
I started school at BC last fall. I had Andrea my first quarter at school and I thought that she gave out a lot of homework but it is what you need to be able to understand. She is always willing to answer questions and is very helpful out of class. I never felt ignored. she will not make the hw due til she is sure u understand material.
she made us spend 2 weeks on material that wasn't covered on the final or by any other 099 teacher. Her HW was like shovelling snow away from an avalanche. Basically, she made our life as hard as she could. Only take her if you like to suffer as she won't let you down!
She knows math, but she can't teach. Worse, she shows no respect to her students. It's hard to believe that she's a math lab director. There are other instructors that deserve the title. For those who's gonna take her class, good luck!
I love this teacher! She really engages the students and is willing to spend the whole class making sure we know the material even if it's from a couple chapters back. She uses examples that we actually care about and can relate to. I highly suggest her if you struggle with math and need clear, spelled out explanations of how to do things.
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had! Her class is very difficult, but if you show up, ask questions, and do the work then you will succeed. I have never met a teacher so dedicated to help students outside of class. She is extremely nice and very fair and has a true passion for educating students. Highly recommend!!
Very thorough teacher, has recommended HW that is important to pay attention to because she will go over it if you have questions and come up on the test regularly. Online HW is time consuming but not impossible. If you have a problem just ask her, test are cumulative (over everything cover from start to when test is) but are short (maybe 15q)
Ms.Villines is a wonderful teacher who cares about her students. Homework is online and has to be written out. As long as you keep on track, there is no reason why it should be overwhelming. Textbook questions are discussed in class. She is always willing to spend time answering questions. Very committed to her work and students.
Villines is an amazing teacher! I am a student that HATES math with a passion and was nervous about going into her class. I struggled but she was always there willing to answer my questions and help me work through the problems I didn't understand. She really cares about her students and will spend time helping you to succeed in math.
She is overall good teacher, def. recommend her for stats. Her tests aren't hard but she takes points of dumb things. Overall, if you study a lil bit and ask her for help, you'll get an A or B.
Andria is an awesome teacher. She is extremely helpful one-on-one, responds to email, and makes herself available outside of class. Her lectures are a bit fast paced, and she skips some steps - but only the ones you really, really, really should know before taking this class. EXCELLENT TEACHER!!
A bit to slow responding on emails and giving back exams so you can study before next exam. took 3 exam and never had previous exam back.she is alright for math 97, 98.
gives material a day before you take an xam, bad grading marks things wrong even if its a simple mistake.
This teacher is very helpful and wants to make sure you understand everything she is teaching. This teacher makes sure that you learn, she cares.
This is my first quarter as a college student and I could not be more blessed to have taken this course with her. She is super helpful and allows you to come in other days you need help or would like to take a test. She is very good at going through step by step directions wit you. Would recommend her to anyone!
Do not like her at all, however she was the only one to teach it... She spends hours "teaching" things that are very simple but breezes over the more challenging things and confuses students more than helping them. I have never disliked a math teacher so much.
She knows math, but unfortunately cannot teach, the homework assignment from the book is now what she teaches in class. She also does not reply emails you send to her, she will get back with you after two weeks has past. Good luck if you are going to take any of her classes. :(
I am terrible at math- and Andria is ALWAYS so helpful. She will work one on one with you to make sure you understand what it is you're struggling with, and will come back and check on you. She lets students "fix" or "rework" problems that you've missed on a test, and will even walk through them with you, for a half point score. Bellevue definitely needs more professors like Andira!
Incredible, reliable, and smart teacher. Will always help you when you need her. The only thing is that the class moves super fast. Youll go through a bunch of chapters and sections then test on it two three weeks later. So if you dont constantly review you forget the material.
She goes over the easy things in depth, but doesn't explain harder things. Boring long lectures. Avoid at all cost!
GREAT INSTRUCTOR. Andria is VERY helpful, and she would do her best to give you the best knowledge, make you prepare to the exam, and give you the grade you deserve. I do love her explanation, and her grading. She is always in her office before the exam to help with any question. Exam projects help the most to study before exams.
If you are reading these things then you are probably wondering should i register for this teacher next quarter? The answer to that question is no. Please just move on and pick someone else, your welcome for saving you. I did good in this class. I got a b. But I had to work my ass off for it. Expect loads of HW every night. Tireless nights too.
Super nice, and helpful. She is a good communicator. I took her class in a math lab which is no fun. She helps one on one, which is good, but it would be nice to go over stuff as a whole more often. If you are not remotely good at math this will be a difficult class seeing as most work is done independently.
Andria is a great teacher! Positive and optimistic. She cares about her students, and always ready to help. The only thing I didn't like is that we were forced to make cards on MyMathLab homework questions. It took most of my time, I would rather practice the problems and read the theory.
I am taking the hybrid class and using aleks and am not good at all in math in fact I hated it. She's gotten me to actually LIKE math and do well in it. She gives assignments after exams to rework the problems and analyze why you got them wrong and what you can do better. She is also very attentive and non-invasive.
This class massively helped me in my other math classes andria is awesome at helping you to get a better grasp on math and how to tackle problems she also helps you a lot with study skills and working through problems. loved having her as a professor
Andria is a solid choice if you are serious about school. She is willing to make time for you and has generous office hours. She is also a great listener and problem solver, so if you are willing, she will HELP you find a way. If you need or like a teacher that doesn't frown when you ask for help. Andria is your gal.
I definitely don't recommend her if you actually wanna learn something! She doesn't lecture before she starts the new chapter! She just writes the questions on the board and you're on your own, she doesn't giving you ANY lecture! Also her exams holds about 65% of your total grade! So even if you get A's for other things exams can destroy your grade
Worst math teacher at BC. She doesn't even give lectures on how to do new material, all she does is write the material on the board, then expects us to solve it. How are we supposed to solve it, if you never gave us a lecture on how to do it?!?! I would rate her a 0 if i had the option too!
Hands down, Andria one of the greatest math teachers for those who are willing to learn. She pushes you to get over your potential and does not butter you up with an easy A. She is also an excellent problem-solver if you were having personal issues and looking for someone to talk with. Accessible most of the time to talk to. I would recommend her!
If you like your grade being mostly tests and no attendance, Andria is for you. If you are looking for an instructor who has attendance points, extra credit opportunities, has clear lectures, and is willing to help you succeed; I advise trying a different professor.
Andria teaching teaching style wasn't for me. She is very example based vs. Concept based. Meaning she solves lots of problems on the board but doesn't really teach how to solve them. She also grades homework for correctness, and grades pretty tough. If you are looking for an instructor who will actively help you succeed, I would keep looking.
She was very difficult to understand. Half of her grading makes no sense. She made us do online quizes, write the questions from the quiz and the answer in a notebook and turn them in ever test. So Many Quizes...
Lectures: funny and clear, and she is always glad to help. Sure there's a lot of work (quizzes online) but it's for your own good. I normally don't study much for math tests but with this teacher and work assigned, it really helps. Seems like she enjoys her job and cares about students: retake of one exam and the final replaces one (work required)
Kind, encouraging, and patient. Gave me confidence in math, for the first time. Highly recommend!
Andria was super nice, willing to answer questions, attendance is mandatory but there are many ways to attend.
Andria is a fantastic math professor who genuinely cares about her students' success. She pushes you to excel, yet is patient and supportive. Using resources like unstuck ai alongside her class has been a game-changer for my math skills.
