Best professor in CCNY. His exams is mostly about proofs he already gave in class. He will give you the sets of questions ahead of time. He will choose some questions from that set.
The class at time can go at a very slow pace but that is because he wants to make sure you understand his lectures. The exams are very straight forward. Expect proofs for the quizzes and the exams. Very nice professor as well during the office hours.
This is the sort of class where you can get an A without having to understand any of the material the prof scribbles on the blackboard - provided you memorize it all. And that is how this class is taught, as an exercise in memorization.
The quizes, midterms are exactly the class lectures. Nothing out of ordinary, straight forward.
Great professor, you will learn in this class. Except, the exams are horrible, nothing like quizzes. DOES NOT give any partial credit. Beware, exams are more of deriving formulas than applying the information learned (same way he derives formulas in class). Textbook is straight forward and will help you to further understand material.
He doesn't expect students to know anything outside of his teachings for the quizzes and exams. Bad partial credit, so do things in the EXACT WAY he does. Before midterm and final, he gives a list of possible questions. If there's an unclear question, make sure you ask for clarification since it can be on the test. An A is possible with practice.
Moody and not interested in student's development. Shows unmistakable boredom at office hours visits. Clings to statistics greatly, which makes his job easier for him. Will not curve, even if half a percent is needed. He probably lets system calculate the grade without any interference from his side. His exams are literally memorizing and copying.
One of the worst egoistic man i have met in my life. Give easy exam but expect you to do perfectly since he gives like absolutly No partial at all. Therefore, you are either getting an A or F on the exam. make sure u have to study the his note every week. b/c he gives the pop quizzes based on that. if you bombed it, good luck to you
If you have to take him, my honest advice is attend every lectures and study them. Extra effort needed!! good luck!
I would pass on this professor. He does not give much partial credit, and he does not finish the whole curriculum. Did not finish the last three chapters. He showed in the beginning his past two classes grades, for one half failed and for the other half dropped the class. It is possible to get an A, but one mistake and you get a 70 on the exam.
if you know how to understand the concepts and memorize stuffs then this is the guy to take but be aware of his grading; one mistake your done. most of the exams and quizzes are covered from the lecture. the exams are straight forward if you give time to his notes and its easy to pass and fail this class. organized and consistent professor.
Had him for only half of the summer semester. He was consistent with his lectures and his quizzes weren't overwhelming. His grading is strict. He expects perfection. Best thing about him is he expects students to know only the questions and concepts that he teaches in class. The class material was boring but he made it manageable! A/B is possible.
He's one of the few profs who greets his students. He teaches concepts slowly and in depth to make sure everyone understands. His quizzes and exams aren't hard but they must be done with extreme caution. No tolerance for calculation mistakes. If your concept is correct and you mess up calculations, you'll just receive half credit. Good Professor.
A wonderful professor. He is very approachable and explains things if you don't understand.
One of the very best in EE. He's a man of procedure. If you follow his procedure, you're golden. He goes strictly by his grading policy outlined in the syllabus. The proofs he does in class are insightful because they teach you how to think. Memorizing proofs without understanding is a proven disaster to your grade. You've been warned!
Teavhes very slowly and clearly, almost too slowly at times. Tests are very, very easy but he is harsh on partial credit. You do both HW and Quizzes on an online system called "connect". The hw assignments are quite difficuly compared to what is done in class or on the tests
He is very consistent instructor, explaining important details of every concept. I strongly recommend taking his classes. I took 3 of his EE classes (Engr 204, EE 330, EE 333) and my experience is "superior"
It was a terrible experience. Our class was well behind the other ENGR204 classes. He spent the first few weeks on the physics of electricity, and the last two weeks he rushed through 5 chapters because he ran out of time. McGraw Hill Connect will screw you over, and his tests are only 3 questions out of laziness. I wish I had learned something
Not a bad teacher, but he gives 3 question exams and is very stingy for partial, even if your concept is correct but you made a calcularion mistake. Most people get A's or F's on the midterm. Nothing really in between. That said, the questions themselves are not that hard, and are lifted directly out of lecture.
PLEASE DO TAKE ANOTHER CLASS INSTEAD OF OPTICS THIS GUY IS SO ARROGANT AND POOR AT TEACHING MIDTERM AND FINAL IS 30% EACH IF YOU MESSED UP WITH ONE TEST YOUR GRADE WILL BE A TO C REAL QUICK AND SOMETIMES I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TRYING TO SAY BECAUSE OF HES THICK ACCENT ONE OF MY BAD EXPERIENCE IN CCNY SCHOOL LIFE
Absolutely a harsh grader. You can have the right concept or idea but If one of your calculations are wrong(i.e. missing number or wrong sign) then he will take off most of the points. Very little partial credit. He started using Mcgraw hill connect and it has glitches and you cannot get partial credit on it. Test questions are from lecture.
Must be perfect if you choose to be in this class. A 3 question midterm and final. The last two questions decide whether or not you receive a A or F. You use wrong units, variable, or forget to add a number then say goodbye to most of the points for the question because he gives at most 5-10 points for right work process. A or fail, no between.
Doesnt care for student development. Your grade is purely based on statistical calculation. Onlinehw quiz system was annoying and made some errors to the grading of my hw so watch out for it. Test questions are straight forward but DONT MAKE ANY MISTAKES. Little partial credit. Midterm class grades was either A or F. Takes attendance every lecture.
Be ready for an extra work in his class. No extra credits and only half partial-credits on the midterm and final. Assignments are not complicated but require a lot of practice. Lectures are good.
This class is not difficult, but requires an additional work at home. He gives a lot of proves with mathematics and computer models. Better to attend all lectures, quizzes can be tricky, midterm and final are not accumulative. A is possible but requires a perfect work.
He is good lecturer and very organized. If you had him in EE330, then you learn in the similar way through mathematical derivations. He is very strict on the mathematics, you cannot make any mistake. He provides lists of questions for the midterm and final. A and F, both are possible.
He teaches 204 quite slow at the beginning. He gives time to physics , but then he goes faster towards end of the course. Lectures are good, be careful do not delay on quizzes or he walks away without your work. Always checks an attendance. He grades by the value of weighted total from the blackboard, he does not curve. A-B are plausible.
He is an outstanding lecturer, but very strict on the final grades. Be aware of his half-points policy, mistakes in calculations will cost 50% of points and another 50 for mistakes in formulas. It is actually better than the Connect grading. Midterm and final contain 3 problems each, no cell phones or handbook allowed.
Do not skip his lectures, he describes all material for midterm and final in the class. He knows optics and microwave, so you actually can learn in this class. Tough grader, no excuses for even small mistakes.
I am editing my review after taking classes that have 204 as a prereq. Golovin does not cover source transforms, Thevenin/Norton, or OP amps in any appreciable detail. You will need to learn all of these things on your own to do well in 205 and 241. His tests are 3 questions, not hard, but stingy with partial.
midterm and final only. Tests are 3 questions each. no partial credit. Tests on unimportant things are we barely cover (ex deriving already memorized formulas that we can easily search up in the real world) Final was on topics we barely covered. We told us to study op amps by our selves and said it was going to be on final. Messes up in class.
Class itself is easy. However, he tests you on stuff that are so unimportant to the cource that you barely cover 10 minutes of it in class. Stuff such as deriving formulas. I spend a week studying circuits for the midterm and he gave questions on deriving formulas and node analysis (which we just learnt). No Partial. makes TON of mistakes in class.
Straight to business. Cons: tough grader, no partial credit, midterm and the finals have only 3 or 4 question so be careful, mandatory attendance, Dont be late(assumed absent after he finishes calling names), Heavy Russian accent, no curving. pros: class contents are fairly easy, goes thru problems in the class, Quizzes are 50%.
I had to study hard. If needed, he will help.
I took EE339 with him. Classes were given along Kano's handbook. Material of the book is not easy, but prof. provided us with a lot of comments on each paragraph and solving the end-chapter problems in the classroom. He ended each chapter with a quiz with problems similar to home-works. If you do not skip his classes, you should not have problems.
This one of the boring class. He taught all the stuff i learned in high school optics. He makes lots of error, even in the test question and when you try to correct he does not listen. He punished student for the mistakes he makes. Horrible prof. You can easily slide from A to F in matter of no time. Avoid if you can.
Lets make it easy and short AVOID HIM
Class upto first midterm is very easy. Most of the people get 100% on quiz and test because it's super easy stuff. But after 1st mid-term , the materials he teaches contains lots of mistakes. And also lot of start to lose lots of points because the equations he provide will have no physical meanings. So i would simply suggest not to take his class
i simply do not know how to describe a horrible person like that. he is, i can say, a trash bag that you would like to dispose in the nearest garbage area as soon as you can. that how i felt while taking his class. 1 question in midterm and final can move you from A to C or even D. avoid taking this maniac who does not know what he is doing
Hes the worst professor ever! Dont even think about taking him! His exams are so tricky and he doesnt give partial credit its either right or wrong. I ended up learning nothing in that class and it ruined my gpa so bad.
Its so funny he teaches this class without even mentioning about Electromagnetics. He has zero knowledge of Electromagnetics. He treats this class as a High School optics class. He brings up some formulas which has no physical meanings. No one really understand what he is doing. If you are good at memorizing things than take him. Else take other.
He taught EE339 by using handbook. He goes by the pattern - attendance, lecture, review questions, homework, open book quiz. Midterm and final are based on the review questions and homework, calculators and open lecture notes only. Takes off 50% of points for math mistakes. With no mistakes you are A+ victorious.
EE333 continues his EE330. Gives quizzes every second week, easy questions about last lectures. Gives small homework and checks it in the class. He gives questions and problems for midterm and final. Midterm and final are very different from quizzes, can be tricky. All assignments only about his lectures, he gives 1 minute to look lecture notes.
He teaches lectures of EE339 Semiconductors along K-handbook. Attendance is required, half points off for mathematics mistakes. Make sure that you follow his reviews of home assignments. The open lectures notes midterm and final are manageable.
Got C for his 204, but A+ for 339 Bc it is open notes. 333 tests are closed (only 1 minute for tests) so avoiding it. NO mistakes get a A, mistakes lose half points get a C. Dont rely just on notes, read, do HW, and understand Bc he changes variables on quiz and test(exact same as HW), simple if you read, confusing if not. Would take ONLY for 339.
I used his notes from the black-board. His quizzes are tricky, midterm and final are similar to lectures, but more difficult b/c he changes assignments. He takes final grades straight from the black-board, does not curve grades, always checks attendance
I took 4 courses with him. Decent professor, he let me to express my opinion and doubts.
Clearly has no interest in teaching. Automatically lose half credit if you get a wrong answer, which is nuts when the exam has only three questions.
The material is actually interesting, but this guy will sap any and all life out of the class, and his grading policy is RIDICULOUS. Any other professor would take 5 points off MAX for miscalculations, in this class you will lose 20+ points and drop a whole letter grade. Buy some books and read on your own, this guys is not worth it.
A lot of mathematics proofs, easy quizzes but hard midterm and final.
quizzes on Connect are easy jokes, midterm and final are real deals, above all no curving!
attendance was taken every lecture. group project was part of final grade. quizzes were deductions from his lectures. midterm and final were hard and computer model was needed to pass. in overall it was hard b/c his tough grading demands to learn all small pieces of lectures.
He is semi-decent and if you want an A, you must memorize his lecture to the finest. He has a depressive monotone, does answer questions, and is helpful during office hours. He is not the best but he is not the worst. Thus, I would take him and you should memorize heavily to do well in his class. Not a bad person.
This professor use Connect online assignments from McGraw-Hill. Assignments are not complicated, but require some practice. Be aware of a half-point policy, which is not that bad. He gives only half-point if you make a mathematical mistake on midterm/final. He is very strict on grades, he takes grades directly from black-board, no curving.
Not bad, he gives only 6 quizzes all about previous lectures. Midterm and Final are also about previous lectures. He gives the list of questions for midterm-final, but he changes some parameters on the exams. No memorization, bc problems would not be exactly similar to lectures. It is hard but can be done with some practice.
I took this professor for the second time. He mostly test you on derivations of law of optics and Electromagnetic waves. Due to covid-19 he start to test people based on calculations. If you study his notes properly, you will be fine. Good luck!
My grade went from an A- to a C+ because of a two question on the final exam. There are no partial credits because a computer grades the answers. I had a 98 average on quizzes and then messed up on two questions on the final. Also the two questions i messed up were not topics we focused on nor did did he say would be on the exam. Avoid him.
Terrible professor. He changed the number of quizzes we take from the original 8 down to 5 and now each one is worth 16% of our grade. We all asked for him to reconsider the grading criteria from 80% for quizzes and 20% for homeworks for something else or at least dropping the lowest grade since everyone is struggling and this asshat said no.
This professor is a fraud. Initially, he told us that he is going to take only 8 quizzes each weighing 10%. He intentionally proceeds slowly to complete the syllabus and took only 5 quizzes. If the final answer doesn't match with him then it cuts off 20-30 points from 100. His slides doesn't contain detailed explanations.
Hes always angry.. Hes very petty and holds grudges all semester on the smallest inconveniences. His class requires near perfection to do well. Thankfully I was able to get a hundred on the final and got an A-, otherwise each wrong question wouldve dropped me multiple letter grades down. I did not enjoy hearing his voice at 11am at all..
Gives lots of quizes and 1 final exam, homework is given but not taken into account but i HIGHLY recommend doing the hw before the quizes because a lot of the questions were similar to the hw. He seems to be in a very monotone and grouchy mood in class and asks everyone in class if we have questions if no one replies. Study hard and you'll survive.
He is the WORST! Very inconsiderate & will not own his mistakes on online tests. He is mean & disrespectful. He changed the syllabus midway & made 5 quizzes worth 80%. Get a few points off on 1 test? Your A goes to a B/B- bc each test is 16%! He is a difficult person & will never hear out student's concerns. NO CURVE! HE EVEN ROUNDS GRADES DOWN!
He's decent, the class is mostly the textbook and online curriculum. His lectures would be good but 1)he talks the physics, curriculum doesn't care, 2) pace is slow, often lags behind the HW schedule, 3) his English is rough, doesn't always understand student questions. One very hard and novel Q on final worth 25%,no partial credit, don't expect "A"
He is the WORST professor I have ever had. He is mean & disrespectful. Your Grades goes down drastically because of his grading technique. He is a difficult person & will never hear out student's concerns. NO CURVE!
Golovin is soo smart that he was the special ability to make things 100 times harder than what it actually is. His excellent teaching inspired me to just read off slides in a deep voice for 30 years while forcing his students to come to lecture. In addition, he only gives exams/quizzes which btw are not curved, so if you mess up "too bad".
Golovin just reads off the slides and you will not learn anything during lectures. He will not drop any quizzes and he will not curve. He calls on people on random during class so beware if you actually do take him. You will be kicked out of the class if you get 3 absences.
Golovin is a crazy prof. He bullies kids but u need to be smart or u will fail and get kicked out his class. Study his slides read the textbook and 100 PERCENT DO HIS HOMEWORK!!!! Golovin is crazy on quizes like he make some hard some easy and he takes so much points off. Never going to see gologvin ever again.
This is now my second semester of Golovin. I would recommend him for online because I got an A- in both his classes. He can be extremely mean at times and will most likely insult you if you miss class or are late. Grading breakdown is transparent from day 1. No homeworks. No curving. Attendance is critical. Good luck
You have to show up to this class or you will get kicked out. No more than 3 absences and you're withdrawn from the class. 6 quizzes, a midterm and a final but I highly suggest you to study the material and learn Mathematica as that will save you. Lectures are boring but he will call on you if he think you're not paying attention and will roast you
Starts screaming at students for "distracting" him during online classes with the chat when the chat is relevant to the topic and he has to interrupt his "lesson" to read the chat anyway. The "lesson" is a slideshow copied from the textbook but with more errors and is read slowly and with less care and effort than it takes to clear one's throat.
Worst grader
Very tough grader
Any class with Golovin is tough. He's not the greatest when teaching the material and gives very little partial credit. There is a quiz at the end of every chapter. It was open notes for all quizzes and exams. If you want to pass with Golovin, get past exams.
Just no
HORRIBLE. I am so glad I never have to take him again. Refuses to help students.
Grades are purely on quizzes and tests. He realized our bad scores half way through the course and started doing open book, but by then it was too late. Gave us 1 class heads up about our midterm. His hw problems barely appear on exams, so you have to look through many problems in short amounts of time to be prepared for what he may throw at you.
He is a good professor for this course, covered material thoroughly in class. Available for office hours and gave good feedback. Attendance is definitely crucial.
beep boop bop
One of the biggest CCNY memes. You either love him or hate him.
Amazing professor. One of the best I have had. Super passionate, really understanding of students, easy open book exams, and cool. No attendance required at all, and he curves a ton. You'll be super satisfied with your grade! Register for his class now, you won't regret taking this great professor!
The class isn't easy by itself because of a lot of material, you should understand everything, otherwise it is impossible to prepare. If you made the same mistake in several questions, he would cut not once but, in all questions, where this mistake appears.6 quizzes 10% for each, midterm and one final 20% each. No curve, microscopic partial credit.
This class is good with him
He inspired me to be miserable every day
Some ppl say he's rude, but imo it's his attempt at being funny. Don't get me wrong, he is super extra sometimes with the lateness. He makes you ask for permission to come into the room if you're late, but his exams are super fair. If you redo the lecture problems you will atleast get a C+ in the class. This goes for every claas the he teaches.
Bad Attitude
If you need to take ee 311, get an epermit for ee 311
I had the displeasure of having to take this professor more than once. All I can say is that if you can, avoid avoid avoid. Unenthusiastic, rude, and does not cover the suitable material for the courses he teaches. Glad I don't have to take him again.
I recommend you try to get an E-permit for EE 31100 & EE 33000 so you can actually learn properly. If you value your GPA, E-permit is a good chance to pass and earn good grades. CCNY is a mess.
I am never the one to drop a class (GPA > 3.8) You can't be late—one minute equals an absence, and two absences mean you're dropped. Lectures are long and boring, making material harder to grasp. Exams cover unaddressed material, with harsh grading—no partial credit. He ridicules questions and is rude. Only three students passed last semester.
For 330, make sure you understand physics 2 well, and for 311, make sure you have taken discreet math. He will assume you know everything about those topics and may throw questions he did not go over in his slides, hw, or recommended textbook. His exams have about 5 questions and rarely gives partial credit; good luck if you choose to take Golovin.
Currently taking him; good profesor, but it's very important to have a good grasp of physics 2
Exams worth all your grade in EE 311 and all classes @ CCNY. I suggest you try an epermit at LAGCC so you can learn probability better and earn good grades. I feel like golovin treated attendance as high school students
If you are just a second late after he finishes attendance, you may be cooked. Mainly read off the slides, which was just pasted screenshots from the textbook or straight up word per word. Very little insight on the slides but was a little helpful. Harsh and picky grading, microscopic extra credit. If you study slides and read textbook, you'll b fn
This might be the worst professor to ever teach in any college when I say stay away I do not mean it lightly. He teaches the topic very badly and on top of that the exams have nothing to do with what he was teaching.
I have taken this professor multiple times in the past and I can sincerely say he had no passion for teaching, no desire (and even annoyance) to help students, and presented course material in a way that was not beneficial to gain knowledge or to pass his exams. I would strongly suggest you take any other professor if you can.
this creature made me question my life choices everyday. Taking his class, you might end up dropping your major.
ONLY applies to EE 333, he was fun and presented the topic in a way that made me want to learn more. quizzes were mostly deriving and solving problems from lectures and tests were the same but with extra difficulty or extra questions. He is very clear about his grading and his policies and he will follow and expect you to do the same.
Lectures are terrible, he just reads off slides in the most boring way. Quizzes and midterms are a bit of a curveball, read his questions carefully as even slight mistakes will make the question incorrect and he doesn't tend to give partial points. Very strict about attendance and a lateness counts as an absence. Avoid him if you can.
For EE333. Only reads his lecture and recites his mistakes. Grading is rigid. Little partial credit. 4 quizzes (only got to 3), 1 mid, 1 final. Screw up any of them and it sinks your score. Want a good grade, get ready to spend lots of time. Many reference books, none with direct information. Majority of the course was optics nothing else.
He's not an enthusiastic or passionate lecturer and I dreaded attending his class for his monotonous lecture. I have seen him humiliate students on occasion. Graded myself and fellow peers very harshly on quizzes and exams. Avoid.
I recommend you get an epermit for EE31100 at LaGuardia CC if you want to under probability better than golovin. Other classes are good but ee 311 is a nightmare. Take probability at LaGuardia CC, you will thank me than taking ee311 at CCNY
This man is not only a terrible professor hes also a horrible human being with no compassion. i have never seen this man smile he is straight up a villain thats only purpose is to ruin the lives of students. i beg you to never take this professor
His quizzes are copy pastes from the textbook (only changes values of resistors). If you do the HW and enough textbook problems (
