Casual, fun, and a passion for his subject that's infectious. Loved this class.
Listens to student concerns, very enthusiastic
Great teacher who cares about his students
The genetic jokes are pretty hilarious late in the evening class. Must be tired
Very helpful and down to earth.... tries to make class fun!!
Listened to students, and really nice. the timbits every class was a ncie touch!
Andy (and I say that only because he told us not to call him prof. robinson) was the ONLY reason I enjoyed this class. He explained things well, was hilarious and easy going, and I'd love to have him again.
AWESOME!!!!!
One of my favourite profs. A really nice guy and seems to really care about his students, he even comes to all his labs and marks all his exams himself which is more then most profs would bother to do.
Amazing!! Funny, down to earth guy that really wants his students to do well
Andy is an awsome prof!!!!!!!!!! He is so friendly and down to earth.....he doesn't have that snobby prof attitude that a lot of profs have.....Great guy, hope to take more of his classes!! Andy you will be missed!!
Great prof, genuinely cares fro students, great additude...
He is so cute!!
Great prof!!! They don't come much better than Andy! Thanks Andy! ~ Castor
Andy is amazing!! he always trys to make class fun and interactive! He loves to tell random stories which is a fun break from the monotony on quantitative!
Andy is the best prof ever!!! i will really miss taking quantitative. He makes the class fun and tells funny stories. He really goes out of his way to help you understand the material. Who know quantitative genetics could be the best class ever? By far my best prof ive had at guelph so far!
Amaaaaazing prof! He plays music at the beginning of class and makes lots of inbreeding jokes! Puns can get to be a little much at times though. Average for the class is pretty high (around 75). Midterms and finals are not difficult, very fair.
Very knowledgeable and helpful. He always responded to discussion questions fairly quickly. His exams were fair.
Taking DE but he posts his podcasted lectures from past years online for our use. The guy is obviously a great teacher and I've only been in the class for about a week. Should have taken the in-class version of quantitative cuz this guy is awesome. Either way this class is going to be sick
Andy can be hard to follow at times in class, but is more than willing to help if you need it. He responds to discussions relatively quickly. Questions are fair and there is even a makeup quiz if you mess up one of the other ones.
Super laid back prof, very fun to be around, genuinely wants students to do well. Was one of three profs for the course, was very honest and genuine when the class as a whole had a problem with one of the other profs put an 'unfair' question on midterm, great guy. Highly recommend. Would defer a course to a different semester to get him as a prof.
I hate genetics with a passion, and Robinson is one of my favourite professors. You can tell that he wants his students to succeed, and goes out of his way to make sure this happens. His teaching style is designed to reach different types of learners - if you struggle to attend lectures he has podcasts. He provides all the (clear) content for DE.
Did a research project with him this semester, he was very helpful and easy going throughout the process. Doesn't know what a filter is (in a good way).
Favourite prof at the school, so approachable and helpful. Very fair tests. I've taken two classes with him.
Andy is probably one of my favourite profs at the school. He genuinely wants students to succeed but he isn't afraid to challenge you at times. His tests are fair and are a wide range of difficulty, but they are reasonable.
Genetics of Companion Animals, also had him for 3 other classes. F16 all quizzes, class participation, midterm, final. (no breeder project this year) Enjoyed all lectures, watched lots of videos of dog agility. If you breed livestock you may not learn all that much in this class. Evening class may interfere with drinking schedule.
Dr. Robinson seems like a nice guy, but he is an average prof at best. His slides are not that detailed, but he posts podcasts so you can understand specific areas of confusion. For the final, if you know his slides and listen to the podcasts you should be fine- fairly simple material. Doesn't reply to email questions.
Really great prof. He made lectures interesting and it was easy to follow along and take notes. He's funny and cares about his students. Midterm questions were reasonable and focused on main concepts. He makes podcasts of lectures in case you miss one or want to listen to parts again.
A great class layout that takes you through the history of genetics and the weekly quizzes really help reinforce the content so that the midterm and exams don't surprise you. Really helpful teaching style with great in class examples, but also posts podcasts so you can go back or just not go to class!
One of the best, and most caring profs by far at the UoG. Sincerely cares about all of his students and wants them to do well. Nothing bad to say about him. If you put in the time and effort that is necessary in his classes you will do well.
Robinson is awesome. Lectures cover a reasonable amount of material and aren't super technical, and he focuses more on concepts rather than specific details (at least for BIOL 1050, can't speak for other courses). His exam questions are reasonable and he has a great sense of humor and is very approachable.
very approachable
Andy is a great guy and the quizzes and midterm are fair but the final was brutal! I did every practice question and attended all lectures and did countless old finals but the one in Winter 2018 was absolutely horrible. I have never left a question blank before but I did on this exam.
Dr. Robinson is an okay-prof. He definitely makes it easy to come out with a good mark (or at least go into the final with one), and makes the quizzes and midterm easy to get 100 (or close-to) on. However, although he provides practice, I wouldn't say it prepares you completely for the final, so make sure you really understand all concepts.
I'll fight anyone for this man. Taken 4 classes w. him, as a student and as someone who's chronically ill it's been a great experience. Makes material easy, straightforward in testing, very fair quiz qs & method. Tries to podcast lectures so you can review easily, and he's always up to explain material in office hours - lean into the dad jokes
Super good guy. Interesting lectures, very laid back and kind. Provides lots of information, and although fairly difficult, is reasonable.
Dr. Robinson is a genuinely great guy, and his classes are quite enjoyable. His teaching style is not the best, as he goes off on distracted tangents and it's difficult to know what's important at times. However, he posts podcasts of his lectures which are awesome for studying. Final exam challenging, but easy to go in with an extremely high mark.
Dr. Robinson, I know you read these things and I just want you to know that despite the fact I'm forced to take this class, I enjoy it. Not because I like genetics, but because you genuinely want to see your students to succeed. You are an amazing prof and EVERY prof should model themselves after you. Thank you for making learning fun and doable!
Andy Robinson is the best professor I have ever had. He makes a ton of dad jokes and doesn't take himself too seriously. He is always willing to help if you ask for it and he is a fair grader. His classes are not a gift and you defiantly need to work for your grade but he is so engaging and gives great explanations that make you enjoy the class.
I took this course DE and he really treats the students in DE as if they are animal bio students unwilling to make it to class. Gives a huge advantage to those in class, such as review sessions, details only provided in lecture but we are still quizzed on those details etc. If you need to take this class, don't take it online.
I've had Robinson for 2 courses so far and have him for another one next semester. He's an awesome lecturer and makes notes super clear. He also records himself as he goes through each lecture so if you missed class or there were extra notes you can find his podcast of it posted on courselink!
So funny! You can tell he really loves what he's lecturing about. He is a gem and posts all podcasts on Courselink so even if you don't want to go to class they can still get the lectures! He gives out stickers in class when you answer questions I love him!
Andy is the best prof I have had. He is funny and actually wanted all of his students to do well. He cares and is often available to help with any questions you have. I have had him for three classes and across the board he was awesome. Finals are difficult though!
He provides lecture podcasts and answers discussion board questions or emails fast!
Dr. Robinson seems like a really nice guy and i know he means well, however he can go off on A LOT of distracted tangents and its hard to know whats important. He also doesn't finish his lectures the next day if we were unable to finish the content the day before (because of the tangents). I just find his teaching style very difficult to understand
I'm sure Prof Robsinson is a good guy in normal circumstances. However, when taking this class online, he's been pretty bad. His lectures go off on tangents that are completely irrelevant, which makes focusing difficult. Also, for the final exam, he's just announced that we will not be allowed to use paper or a calculator, FOR AN ONLINE EXAM.
Dr. Andy Robinson is a cool professor. I've had him for 2 courses so far in my degree program and I'm honestly impressed with all that I've learned from him. I'm not the smartest and his content was not that challenging for me. His chill style of teaching, great notes and straightforward exams are only some of the great things this gem has offer.
He spent 50% of lecture time talking about his personal life rather than teaching the content. Surprise surprise the final ended up being horrible, with content that he had never mentioned or gone over. Really frustrating.
Professor Robinson is one of my favorite professors. He genuinely wants you to succeed and gives you all the tools you need without spoonfeeding you. Although the content was a little difficult at times, having a great professor really makes up for it! Highly recommend taking any classes with him as a prof!
People who are extremely comfortable with genetics and are able to understand the content without much input from the prof will love him. He spends roughly 40% of the class making horrible jokes and talking about his personal life. This is time he could spend actually teaching the course content! It is very annoying when you are struggling
Amazing prof. If you want a good grade you have to work for it. But everything is there and given to you for you to succeed.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He will say that people that complain about his finals haven't prepared for them. Do not listen to him. I studied until there was nothing left to study and tanked the final, there was nothing I could have done differently. Finished with 95+ in my other courses and mid 80 in this. The most unfair exam I've written.
He puts his students first. Courselink being down because of Jeff Bezos didn't stop prof Robinson. He made sure it could work so that his students can do their absolute best. Super nice guy and a very interesting character. Watch your head Bezos
Andy is by far the best prof I've had. You still have to attend lectures and put effort in to do well but he explains things clearly and gives you all the tools necessary to succeed. His exams are straightforward and he really wants his students to do well. Don't listen to the bad reviews, Andy would literally fight Jeff Bezos for his students.
he is an amazing professor but a horrible course coordinator... he never answered any of my emails even when I sent them multiple times. He always tried to make it seem that he was more stressed than us about everything and would say things like "I'm 303 times more pissed than you" when it came to our final being rescheduled. like ur defo not sir.
Andy is a great prof. I had him for MBG3060 and MBG4020. MBG3060 I did not attend lectures as much and did not pay attention, I scored a low 80. I did the opposite for 4020 and really focused on the course which resulted in me doing well. Go to his office hours to ask for help! He is super nice and wants everyone to do well.
such a dad vibe. He loves his genetics courses and it shows. I personally enjoy his rabbit holes during lecture. He sets up this course so a good grade is attainable. I always enjoy Andy's classes.
Great prof, sets classes up nicely that you can succeed. Exams and midterms can be hard if you do nothing but if you actually put in the work you will be fine. Super funny as well and is very open, makes class enjoyable, can't wait to take more of his courses
He was absolutely amazing with his course material and I would take his class again in a heartbeat
Great prof, who made lectures relatable to real-life situations. The midterm was a bit harder than the content learned, but the exam was not as bad.
Awesome lectures.
Absolutely one of the best profs at Guelph. He really cares about making sure you understand the material and makes the lectures engaging. He is great to speak to outside of class and has lots of cute photos of his donkeys sprinkled into the lectures!
literally the best abio/ansci prof
I LOVE Andy. I highly enjoyed his dad jokes and random tangents during lectures, but that's prob. bc I have ADHD and need a distraction every now and then lol. He'll give you the answers to the quizzes if you attend office hours BUT make sure you know how to calculate everything or you'll be f*cked for exams. 10/10 would take this course again.
Andy is a good guy
Unpopular opinion, Andy is very scatter brained and does not do a great job at explaining concepts. People like him because he makes funny jokes in class but if you actually focus on how well he explains the material, he is not great...
love this man and everyone else does for a reason
Andy Robinson was the best of the four professors in this course. He explained concepts in the class extremely well and made several dad jokes. Every class began with pictures of animals from his farm. His exam was fair and he made sure to go over important details several times beforehand. He is also very helpful when you have questions.
Andy was my favourite prof this semester. The two structures he uses for his lectures makes it very simple to take notes, whether on an iPad or computer. The midterms weren't to bad, he drops hints about them a lot if you go to class. Also just a funny guy, makes dad jokes :)
A fantastic lecturer, great at making the subject interesting and finding connections to real world importance. Really knows his stuff. Very funny, lots of stories and lectures slow enough to take written notes.
Andy has been my fav prof throughout my entire undergrad (I've taken 3 of his classes!). His classes aren't easy... they are genetics, but he is great at explaining things, and is available at office hours to walk through anything you don't get. Struggling? Go to office hours and ask for help! He truly cares about students who put in the effort
I heard great things about him before taking the class but honestly he is one of the rudest and most arrogant people I have ever met. Whenever you ask him a question he just makes fun of you and makes you feel small. The material is not that hard but the final was killer. Overall, hated him. I will never take another class with him again.
Very funny, engaged in material, makes learning interesting
Amazing prof! Super chatty in and outside class, nice and answers questions in a respectable, knowledgeable way that provides clarity. He made jokes often which helped to keep attention, he didn't only read off slides but gave other info, often showed images which really helped me as a visual learner
I had Andy for BIOL-1050 this sem and he was honestly so great. His lectures were super engaging, but you do have to pay attention to the things he says because there isn't much on the slides and whatever is said in the lectures can pop up on the midterm/exam! He was super easy to approach and talk to outside of class, great prof.
Amazing, loved having him for AGR, easy to understand the concepts, very engaging. Midterm was pretty easy, make sure you review notes, having him in BIOL 1040 was also helpful as he related the two courses a lot but easy to understand if you didn't do the other class, In a bunch of clubs! 10/10
A nice person who makes funny jokes all the time. It was interesting to be in the lecture. Despite some of the concepts were not explained clearly enough, he is accessible outside the class. The final was not easy, but fine.
He's a wonderful speaker and creates a very welcoming environment! He also adds humour to his lectures, keeps you engaged, and makes you WANT to attend class! BEWARE OF DAD JOKES! 10/10 would recommend!
Andy is a great prof. Had him for many classes throughout the years, gives many hints for tests and exams in his in person classes but also records lectures in case you miss. He genuinely wants you to do well and is always happy to answer a question. Can go on tangents but they are usually entertaining and help you recall the content. I recommend!
Great at explaing topics and is very engaging
Make sure to do the practice quizzes and practice exams.
his classes were great :D
Andy is a pretty great prof. He gives lots of tips and lets you have two tries for all the quizzes. A lot of people struggled with the exam. Yes, it is difficult. But that's because the rest of the class is so easy that you won't want to study. If you understand the concepts and study like you would for MBG 2040, you will do good in the exam.
Good lecturer, experienced in the field and hints heavily at what will be on the exams during his lecture periods. Make sure you pay attention and note even the most random stories he may tell about his family farm animals cause they somehow end up on the exam.
I have found that his final exams are very different from quizzes and class content. I attend lectures and study for this course, but there's always 1+ question on the final that I swear we never discussed in class/wasn't in quizzes. This is coming from someone w/ 90+ in all of his classes, so I promise I'm not just being bitter about failing lol.
Honestly great guy, had him for both AGR1110 and BIOL 1050. He's funny, knowledgeable, and engaging. He hints at what will show up on the midterms, and rewarded people who didn't skip before the break with a bonus question answer. If you see him teaching a class, you'll probably have fun, but you should still lock in because it is not an easy A
Andy is such a great prof. I've taken 4 classes with him over the course of my degree, and wish that I could've taken more! He wants everyone to do well, and is always willing to answer questions. I found his exams to be more application-based than memorization, so focus on understanding the material, rather than memorizing it and you will do fine!
Overall, Andy Robinson is a great professor and knows what he's doing. He's very personable, and I'm sure would be happy to chat. His slides for this course were easy to follow and not very dense. The final exam was fair, just tedious.
