Thinks that it is his way or no way. Tests are hard and papers get ripped apart
i was too nice before
took this at night, tough class, but I'm much smarter than before I took it
best experiance in class: leaving
If you want to fall asleep take this class
Not exactly exciting, but interesting. Defend your position well, you'll do fine
Talks in a very clear, down to earth tone of voice, and he's very understanding.
Extremly helpful! Nice guy, put plays a good role of devil's advocate
I don't know.. I think he's cute, just look at him for A LOOOOOOONG time!
Very poor teaching skills. You will not do well if you do not agree with him.
Makes people back up their comments, which makes people mad when they can't.
great teacher, be a good clear writer
challenging but interesting, challenges you to think!

Wibles Wobble but they don't fall down, nice guy though
very passionate about his subject, however... nobody else is
Requires good argumentation, makes funnies, sometimes preferential in treatment
interesting speaker, funny.. he does expect you to pay attention though
Passionate, dry humor (I loved it!), difficult to argue with, set in beliefs
Don't take him! He's always right and students are never right. Don't mention religion...he doesn't believe in it.
very dry humor, biased toward those who believe differently than him, challenges you to give proof of your beliefs, yet won't listen, be careful what you say.
Andy is a very good philosophy teacher. It's a difficult subject to teach but he handles his responsibility well and is always willing to help. He is also a very nice person, I respect him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! THATS ALL I GOTTA SAY!
This is by far.. the WORST prof I ever had. He does not warm up to his students, and is unwilling to help students understand the material. his sense of humor is very dry
he is not a good teacher, he is very opinionated and his opinion is right and yours is wrong, If you don't have your own persoanlity and agree with others all the time he is a great teacher. Other refrain from his boaring classes.
Hope whomever signs up gets 12 hours of sleep before class. You'll need it. :)
Horrible!! Your opinions are always wrong and he is always right. If you share your point of view he gets mad and will kick you out of class. Thats what philosophy is all about! To see the different views! Dont take
save your self.. may be the worst way you've spent your time ever!!!
This prof is extremly knowledgeble and has a cool dry sense of humor. He is actually quite open to ideas if they are well supported. He will give you a good grade no matter what your position if it is well argued. Very fair.
Andy Wible rocks! Don't take this class if you are lazy.. but if you're serious, you'll gain a lot from him!!!
Nice guy, horrible teacher. Feels that it's a good plan to use majorly controversial issues to evaluate basic principles. Does not allow you to have your own opinion.
VERY HARD Teacher. Save yourself...
Great guy and great teacher!
Andy is a very caring individual. He is passionate about his beliefs which lean to the far left. I believe he sometimes has problems being objective as a result. However, overall I believe an individual can learn a lot in his class. Great sense of humor!
This was the worse class I ever had
The WORST Professor i've ever had!! He's always right and your always wrong. He wants your papers to be DEEPLY in depth (which is fine) but then he limits you on how much you can right then grades really tough. BEWARE!!!
Horrible teacher, asks you to do controversial papers and then if you don't agree with him you are a failure. Don't use Bible as a source it is not an acceptable source to him.
Don't listen to people who say that he'll grade you badly if you disagree with him. I wrote from a religious perspective, and got a good grade. If you can defend yourself RATIONALLY, you will do well. He will teach you to think. Highly recommended!
Andy is a GREAT prof, and he graded very fairly.
Andy is a great instructor. He tries very hard to make you understand the principles arguements. If you can logically support your arguements you will do well...I do suggest you don't plagerize, A girl in my class did and he dropped her, only fair though!
I would NEVER take a class from him ever again!
not very clear, makes things difficult, go with Blair Morrisey for sure over this guy!! I had this guy for a sem and dropped, and now I am taking with Blair, and am doing much better in the same class!1
Yay for Andy, he rocks! He's tough, but you will learn tons!
Andy is my second favorite teacher that I have ever had!
He is very hard to understand...
A great teacher. I learned alot. He was always helpful to me, even if I just dropped by his office without notice. I found that he explained things well; however, many people in my class were just lazy. If you are interested in learning, then take this guy. If not....then drop out of school.
Wible's class was rediculous. He absolutely did not grade fairly and was unclear. The notes made sense, but he was somewhere else in space. All of my friends that had him agree. Do not for any reason take his classes unless absolutely necessary.

Lazy or close-minded students will hate Andy, but if you're interested in learning and being challenged, then this is the guy to take.
Andy is a very lost man. His notes were unclear and so was he. if you do not think the same way that he does your chances are slim to non. i would never take a class with this man again.
Andy is a little eccentric, but that's not a bad thing. He's very clear and very sharp, and keeps you on your toes. People who are lazy or who are unwilling to engage any sort of challenges to their ways of thinking will hate him, but for anyone else, highly recommended.
Andy must be posting here!! Way too hard for an intro class Andy. Keep in mind that people going to MCC are probably not Philosophy majors. You really need to take a step back and redo your class, or I am sure your attendance will drop. Whenever asked I tell other students what your class is REALLY like.
unless you are taking a VERY light class load, do not take this class. way to in-depth for an entry level class. class needs to be reviewed and material amount brought down to some workable level. very hard to do well unless your views are similar. seems to grade students standpoints on issues, rather than the effort and content of work.
Andy is a bit "different" or "eccentric" and his liberal views don't interest me or many other students. If you don't share his liberal views, then you will struggle with this class. I am conservative and I found this class to be overly time consuming and too involved when introductory philosophy should be far more simple. Would not recommend him.
i have no idea what the problem is with everyone else, i found Andy's class to be enjoyable.
Obviously most of the people complaining here are either too lazy or too incompetent to handle the class. Yes, it is challenging, but that's a good thing. And no, he doesn't grade based on your views. I am a staunch conservative, and this reflected in my work, and I still got a solid A. He grades you on how well you argue, not what your view is.
This is not an easy class, but by putting forth the effort you can do well. Andy is extremely clear. Take good notes and you will be all set. I agree with the person above...Andy expects you to be able to argue intelligently. Your views are irrelevant as long as you can argue your side with reason.

Andy's class is very interesting. Take notes!! He is very clear. However, I do not think his grading is fair. Not everyone is a philosophy major. I felt that you had to be to get a decent grade from him.
Very hard, quizes are impossible to pass
terrible class. if you must take philosophy take it from another professor. I think Mr. Wibble believes this is a major university, its not its a community college. Students take this class because they need it for credit, not because they are philosophy majors. Very hard grading.
Very hard class. Quizzes and tests are difficult to get A's in, same with papers. However, he doesn't assign very much work. Mainly readings. Interesting, but can be frustrating when you just want a good grade above all.
Very hard to get a good grade in. Does not grade fair. Writes great lecture notes, very well written and organized, not much work, lots of reading. Terrible with grading. This is a general class, not a major. We are at a Community College, not a university.
For all the people complaining...why do you expect to have easy classes in college. Why is the fact that this is Muskegon Community College relevant? Get your act together and do the work. This teacher is great, he is clear about what he wants and his assignments are totally doable. Not easy, but fair!
Don't take andy. His grading is very hard... he tells you to be very detailed and explain yourself in your papers, yet limits you to 3 pages.. & will mark you down if you go over. Gets mad if you dont participate, but when you do, he gets mad if you dont agree with him. Dont take him!
I had a lot of fun with Andy. Yes, he is homosexual. Yes, he is liberal. But his course is certainly not biased. If you can't come to a philosophy class with an open mind, don't come at all. All he wants is for you to consider all points of view and intelligently argue yours to the best of your ability. Lectures were clear and interesting.
Ttook Wible's class, was not passing. Took same course with another teacher, turned in EXCAT same work, got a b+. What does that tell you??
A warning to those taking Philosophy courses: Please be advised that if you are a christian-in the bible it talks about how Philosophy is a tool of the devil. I encourage believers to pray while taking this course...be prepared for the battlefield of your mind!
i HATED his class!
His grading is something to be desired. The book was uninteresting and hard to read. However he did provide lectures notes, which was helpful. I agree with another individual, he is very critical if you do not agree with him. He is also very harsh on the religion parts. I understand his points and the points the book was trying to make, but it was
I really like Dr. Wible. He is polite and easy to approach. His lecture notes are very helpful. He also allowed for extra credit. I think it is funny that he gets low ratings for having some standards. If you put in the work and keep an open mind, then you will do well. I would gladly take Dr. Wible again.
Don't take PHIL with him, take it with someone else. He's too hard!
his style of grading is very difficult. he doesn't seem to care about other people's opinions, it is taught from his point of view and no other way
I think that students that plan to continue their education beyond MCC should take Dr. Wible. His standards are a litte higher, but you better be prepared for that if you plan on a transfer. He is clear, helpful, and will challenge you. I believe that meeting his standards helped me tremendously. I should mention that he does allow for EC.
Andy is a great professor. His class is by no means easy, but the challenge is exciting and very much needed at a school like MCC. His class was changeling and thought provoking. Be prepared to challenge your own and others beliefs. Philosophy is greatly needed. I'm glad Dr. Wible exposed my mind to some of the greatest questions of our time.
not easy to understand
Great teacher. Classes were interesting, and debates thought provoking.
Wible is obviously knowledgable about the subject, however, his blatant disrespect for others beliefs was absolutely ridiculous. Each person is entitled to their opinion, but not in his class apparently.
Philosophers seriously are the smartest people in the world and Andy proves it. Extremely intelligent and thought provoking. Can be hard to follow sometimes but he is never unwilling to clarify anything. He is very open-minded and non-judgmental. He will really make you THINK, something too many professors do not do. Overall great guy!
Why is Wible great? Because he doesn't treat his students like they're retarded like most other professors at MCC do. Yes, his class is difficult. Yes, he's a hard grader. Is that bad? No! By being in his class, you're getting way more than what you're paying for. He's a U of M caliber prof at a crappy CC. Just read the damn book and you'll be ok!
Absolutely disgusted with the way this professor teaches. Andy wants you to have your own opinion, but if it doesn't go with his then you are wrong. For all the other people who took this class and state "people who complain are lazy" That is garbage. I have no problem doing the work. The teacher is the problem
If you like watching PETA videos its for you. I have him for enviromental Ethics and its just him gloating about his ability to be a vegiatarian. Hes totally Bias and he is stuck in his own way of thinking without any other considerations of what you like. I would never take him again not because of the work, thats not hard but listening to him is!
Wible is a terrible teacher, being far too bias and convinced of his own correctness. Getting an A is easy, just surrencer all your own personal insights and write down exactly what he says.
I was once under the impression Wible was too biased. I now realize that Wible did his best to grade fairly. One thing most people don't realize is that Wible teaches PHILOSOPHY, a discipline centered on using logic and fact to defend your position. If you expect Wible to give you an A simply for stating your views, then you will do poorly.
DONT TAKE. If you believe in god this isnt the class for you!
He is awful. The first day he walked into class and said, "No one will get an A, C is average so expect to get one." He is stuck in his ways and he says the arguement is what matters, he will only give you a good grade if you agree with him opinion.
Not a good teacher at all unless you're good at learning from really boring, monotone teachers. Yes, he is very smart.. but he's so dry & boring it's really hard to take anything away from what he's saying.
This class is supposed to be easy because its a 101 class. But it is terribly hard and boring. This is my 3rd semester, have gotten all A's and B's but I had to drop this class because I knew I would fail if I didn't. The same day I dropped, I knew 3 others on campus who did as well. Do not take this class with him. Odds are, you will not pass.
Took this class is 2010: Biomedical ethics..... Interesting and thought provoking topics. This class will prepare you for ethical dilemmas in the REAL MEDICAL WORLD. Grades are fair if you can create an argument and support it. Do extra credit if available.
Excellent professor. Knows the subject and encourages thoughtful debate. Definitely will take again.
This guy really doesn't know what he's doing.
Quizzes and tests are pretty hard. Take good notes and study them for quizzes and tests. I didn't even open my book (although he does assign reading) and still managed a B. He is a ridiculously hard grader on papers! Not very helpful, many of my classmates failed. Dry sense of humor and boring. Stickler for not having cell phones. AVOID THIS CLASS
Dr. Wible was a great teacher, but this class is pretty hard if philosophy is not your forte. The subject matter was interesting and thought-provoking. He is a hard grader for a course that has no prerequisite (besides ENG101, no PHIL prereq). However, if you are able to do the extra credit, you should do fine. Just pay attention and study hard!
I graduated from MCC a little while ago. This guy was my most memorable professor, for his awesomeness. He is not biased... he questions people's beliefs, he plays devil's advocate. He knows his stuff and he has lead the philosophy club for years. People who down vote this guy don't like their beliefs being questioned pure and simple.
This teacher is pretty hard on work and wants you to read from the book very often, the book assigned to use is not very helpful and you will need to take notes every day of his class, do. not. miss. one.class. your grade will drop if you do, other than that he can be a good teacher but not right for new college students.
The majority of ratings on here are simply from people who are not as intelligent as they think they are. This was not a difficult class. Wible is a GREAT prof. It's not about what you believe, it's about using the arguments, theodicies, and concepts appropriately. Enjoyable class but populated by the same whiners rating here. This is COLLEGE!
This teacher is a terrible teacher. He is very rude moody. He doesn''t respect students. He is very rude.
Not Helpful, Does not know what he is talking about, Rude
Hard but a good guy and teaches well
Smart man, knows his stuff and expects you to put effort fourth to pass his classes, clear, concise and to the point. Funny and honest, but definetly one of the few community college professors that actually expects things from you.
Andy is an amazing professor and an extremely smart individual. If you're close minded you won't like his classes. He expects more from you than most professors, which still isn't a lot. Partisipate, and try. You can succeed.
I'm a 3.98 GPA student in Honors; I found it remarkably hard to accomplish anything in Dr. Wible's classroom. I had no problem with his bleeding liberal attitude, rather; his monotonous instruction is why I left. I felt uncomfortably tense in class, hastily realized I would much prefer another instructor, and withdrew.
I would NOT take this class if you dont have to. He will wreck your GPA.
He is honestly the worst! He is super confusing and isn't helpful at all!! He is very close minded to any opinions other than his own. I suggest any other professor for philosophy
He is an amazing professor! He challenges you further than any other professor I've ever taken. If you aren't in for a challenging class, then don't take this. I learned so much from him and have opened my eyes to so many issues. I highly suggest taking him!
Cannot stand this guy. He is late every day to class and always keeps us past that class end time. Even though he is always late, he will not accept your homework if YOU are late, which i don't find fair. He is not understanding, and assigns a lot of homework. The papers he assigns are difficult. He asks too many questions and grades them hard.
He is a professor that knoes what he is talking about, but when writing a paper make sure you know what his stance is. If yoy know his stance and can side with it, you will do much better.
He knows what he's talking about, but is very dull. Don't think you'll be getting out of class earlier than when the class is suppose to end, he uses every second he can get. He also takes forever to put grades.
Dr. Wible is a good professor who knows what he is talking about. The class covers a lot of ethical issues that will be faced in the medical field. The class is graded on four regular papers, and final paper, a quiz, a midterm, and the final exam. He grades the papers on your ability to argue. The quiz/tests cover a lot of material.
very last minute vague rushes into things confusing at times during lecture
Lots of essay questions. You never knew exactly what he was looking for in an answer.
he only gives two test and then the final. He makes you do lots of homework but then he hardly goes over it. he is the worst professor I have ever hard 0/10 would never recommend
Andy is a good guy however, not my favorite as a professor. It is wrong that in order to have a chance at getting decent grade, you have to taint your own opinions to match his. Also, he is incredibly harsh at grading papers (there will be a lot of them). The subject matter itself is interesting but I advise you to take another prof.
If your someone who loves writing papers (even 7 page ones) then youll do fine in this class. I wouldnt recommend him but I wouldnt say hes a bad professor. Just has a strict way of teaching. He lectures the whole class and you take notes and if you go over those notes before tests and papers youll do fine! Its a class you have to study for.
He only gives two tests, and then the final. If you do badly on the first test you are screwed then. He offers no extra credit at all
He's a pretty solid guy, understanding but only to a certain degree. Very reasonable. The only thing that got to me was that he would sometimes assign extra homework via email that was to be due the next day which was very inconvenient for me as i structure my days specifically and set aside a specific time for homework, so it would stress me out.
I never really knew what he wanted out of assignments. He gave very little criteria or instructions for papers, yet he graded so harshly. He also doesn't do well at accepting opinions that aren't like his own. His lectures were long and boring, and he always went over on time. I wouldn't take him unless you have to.
Andrew is a great experience. He will challenge you. He wants you to question ideas and think critically. Some people will feel attacked, its not what it is. I have done a lot of college and had many legit bad professors, not this guy. This is not a class for the lazy, its intellectually stimulating.
Professor Wible was an awesome professor! He may have been a tough grader on papers and exams, but if you take good notes and study well you shouldn't have an issue. He always includes stories in his lectures and I always enjoyed them. You can tell he truly cares about his students and their opinions, and always respects everyone's views.
Wible is a good professor in the way that he teaches and lectures well; I thought his lectures in class were easy to follow. He wants to engage students in his lectures so be ready for him to ask questions. He is however a very tough grader. You have 3 papers and a final term paper that has to be seven pages.
I really liked Dr. Wible and our class always had great conversations. We had to write many papers for his class, and I never felt like we had clear guidelines. I got 2 B's, a C+, and 2 A's on the papers. It was always hard to know what he wanted. He wants you to read the book, but you don't have to in order to pass. Just listen to lectures.
Very lazy teacher, and he never will answer your emails
I really enjoyed having this professor. There were not many assignments for biomedical ethics (2 long papers, 2 article reviews, 1 quiz, 1 midterm, and 1 final). He gives great feedback on your assignments and is willing to help. Forewarning: the exams are over the lecture more so than anything else. I found this class to be the most rewarding.
Dr. Wible is a great person but his style of teaching was not for me. He wouldn't give us clear dates on when discussion board posts were posted but he did tell us when essays were due. The quizzes were over lecture notes and they were hard. Not much is graded so it's easy to struggle over the semester if you get a few low grades. Challenging class
Not willing to help students outside of class. Lectures all class, one quiz the entire semester, and huge exams that cover all 4 million of his lectures.
Great professor, great lectures. His LGBTQ+ studies class was really good and informational.
I'm still in his class- but I can say it isn't noteworthy, but it isn't a nobrainer either. There's a big participation grade (which isn't shown until the end of the year) but if you at just show up it should be fine. I pay attention to about half the lecture, but still have a decent grade. However, there are a LOT of papers- about 16 pages total.
I hate that this class doesn't give any small assignments. All the work is either papers or tests or exams. There should be more chances to earn credit. Lectures are hard to pay attention to. I felt out of place in this class as well. If you are not part of the LGBTQ+ community I don't recommend. It's hard to relate.
Lectures every class, if you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine. He is kinda harsh grading papers though
Andy is a nice person. Very approachable during class. However, emails don't get answered fast. Homework was writing papers with very little direction of what he expected. Tests are to be completed in an hour with no notes. He uses notes for his lectures. He shares his political views and pushes them on you. Takes a few weeks to put grades in.
Andy is an amazing professor & human being. He's very intelligent & presents the subject matter in a very understandable way. It's clear many of these ratings were written by people without critical thinking abilities who cannot handle their beliefs and views being challenged and debated; if you can't handle that, don't take a philosophy course.
This professor is god awful. He grades you on four essays 3-7 pages and three tests. He grades the essays so harshly and will take forever to put the grade in the grade book. This class is not worth the money and if possible take it at another college. This class has a high chance of lowering your GPA avoid unless you have no other options.
Legitimately such a cool, knowledgeable guy. He grades pretty hard on papers, but at least they're only three pages and double spaced. He gave us a week to do them so make sure you use the whole week instead of the day before. I really enjoyed LGBT studies and hope to have him again in the future.
Given that this is an ethics course, I can understand how personal opinions would sometimes be shared by the professor. If you want to pass this class then have the same opinions as him. His grading is very inconsistent and he will take points off of papers for no reason. The reading is not necessary but he does like to talk about himself too much
A very interesting guy! Quizzes/tests were timed so make sure you know your stuff! He is clear with his office hours and was quick to respond to emails. In online classes he calls on people, so make sure to pay attention. The textbook is needed for the case studies, but not for anything else. Important to listen to lectures and take lots of notes!
He is a good person but not the best professor. He grades hard, and there are lots of notes. However, he's unclear about where we are in the class and expects you to know where we are with the book despite never stating precisely at what pace we are reading. Additionally, he is a hard grader and expects you to write a lot. Very nice guy though.
Will never take this professor again, was told by many counselors that this was the hardest class at mcc. For the sake of your GPA avoid at all costs unless this course is needed to graduate then prepare yourself. Many points will be taken off of essays with minimal response as to why or what was done wrong. Teacher is very opinionated.
What did I take? I'm pretty sure I am being pranked because there is no way this is a real course. Every essay I wrote was below a C and the comments he makes are literal chicken scratch, and he offered no explanation. The course isn't difficult if you are ready to be quizzed on everything he never discusses with the class, doesn't follow syllabus
Personally, I really liked this professor and his lectures! He gives you a good amount of time to complete papers.
I took an online course and failed it so not only did I pay 375 for it but I'm taking it again because he is the only one that teaches it. A friend who took his in-person course found it extremely difficult and it's not like we are stupid you know? Wible is unbearable. If you miss one assignment or one lecture you have basically already failed.
Professor talk the whole class period. Wanted essay length answers on the midterm and final. There were no assignments that could raise your grade. Pages worth of notes were taken daily. If you did not receive notes from a classmate, you would probably remain clueless on a subject. Hope to never take his class again.
He is a good person but not a great professor. We only had 4 assignments outside of our mid term and final(if you screw up one your grade if ruined), there was no clear use of the book, we had to rood and do everything our selves with no guidance. LECTURES the whole class. I wouldn't recommend but there are a lot of courses that only he teaches
Lecture heavy, you really need to show up to every class to get a good grade. Very nice and explains things well, but there are few things you are graded on. He did give a few extra credit options. The chapters you are supposed to read are outlined in the syllabus.
Lectures can be dry, but staying engaged and using resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook can help you succeed. Grading is inconsistent, so be prepared to defend your work. Overall, manageable if you put in the effort.
Just don't do it to yourself.
Don't take this class unless you share the professor's opinion. For an ethics class, differing views should be welcome, but it's his way or the highway. With only about three assignments besides the midterm and final, it's hard to recover if you fall behind. He also relies too much on Blackboard's AI flags without reviewing them himself.
Only a like four discussion assignment that he doesn't grade until the end of the semester. Everyone failed the first test and it was hard to get that back up. two extra credit opportunities. 2 essays and a test and exam. HAVE TO BE THERE FOR EVERY CLASS. IF YOU MISS CLASS YOU MISS EVERYTHING. DOESNT POST ANY INFO OF LECTURES.
I am in the asynchronous 205 class due to a busy schedule. I took this class thinking I would be able to complete assignments during the week as long as it was before the due date. Wible started posting quizzes that were due within 24 hours of posting in the middle of the week and only sent an announcement out after the quiz was posted.
Tough grader, a lot of homework. I feel like I did learn from Dr. Wible's class, though I would not take another one of his courses. The in-person extra credit lectures were engaging.
Terrible teacher. Uses AI to grade assignments. Gives no credit for extra credit. Big waste of time. Talks so much about his own life and expects the class to be ready for tests without explaining what will be on them.
Please listen to these bad reviews and don't take his class. You never get your grade back until the end of the semester and he doesn't reply to your emails. Is a very opinionated grader, so if he doesn't like what you wrote, good luck, bad grade. If you miss one class, you might as well fail the class. Will never be taking any classes by him again.
He was a very tough grader. I would go down to the writing center multiple times per essay just to make sure he had no way to knock me down, only for him to still give me a B+. It drove me a little nuts, but I still got an A due to extra credit(he gives up to 30pts) and the exams. Be sure to read the book or he will call you out
