She's a pretty good teacher and her class wasn't too hard. She's pretty strick on attendance, though. I wouldn't recommend dropping her class if u got her.
She is really easy but if I hadn't of known a little of Pre-calc before then, I would probably be lost.
She is really nice, but a horrible teacher. I usually like math and I ended up doodling on my notes the majority of class. Takes strict attendance. Her tests are ok as long as you get extra help, but my advice is to avoid her...
She is easy, especially if you took precal or cal 1 in high school.
good teacher, she explains everything well as long as you pay attention. its math so... pay attention and you may have to teach yourself but if you actually try, you will do well.
really sweet and a great teacher. very helpful. easy class.
Had a 96 until the final, then got screwed.
She's a very kind person but she's not the best at explanation. I felt as though at the beginning of each new lesson I was being thrown into a subject with no prior knowledge as to why. Learning center retaught everything to me.Tests aren't that bad.
She is a great teacher.
very helpful and nice
she could not answer a question with a statement! Every question you asked was responded to with another question. It was soo annoying! Pull out you technology class!! She is one of the worst teachers i've ever had!!
My favorite teacher at GC&SU. Very kind and helpful!
She's does not explain problems/formulas very well..
good teacher, nothing in the class is very hard, she explains everything pretty well, overall she is a good solid choice
sometimes seemed more interested in being your friend than your teacher. explains everything well though. testsare fairly easy too.
Nice teacher, very helpful. Definatly take her for math modeling. Explains everything very well.
extremely easy, but shes extremely boring... suicide was definitely an option after her boring lectures... tell her to shutup, but the class was easy
she is a really sweet teacher and i am not a math person, but if you go to class and take notes then you will do good and she will always give extra help!
Very nice, a good teacher, but just a little on the boring side. Listen to what she says, tho, and you will do fine.
She is a horrible teacher!! She will only go over 1 problem the whole class period and give you a completely different example on the exam. When asking questions, she get frusterated easily. Her classes are real drawn out and boring. Plus she keeps you longer after the class is supposed to be ended. STAY AWAY!
i liked the class, i never had a problem not understanding, she is VERY good about extra help and is very understanding, can sometimes be confussing if math isnt easy for you but she is a good teacher
Ok teacher. She doesn't explain anything well... lets the kids do it, who don't know what they are talking about. Test are ok. Make sure you do her stupid bellrigers... that is the test. If you go to her she will help, clarity still helps. If you take her...use the writing lab. Overall: not bad, it could be MUCH worse.
She is such a horrible teacher! She doesn't really teach, she does that whole "here's a problem. let me do it. get it now?" thing, which i can't deal with. I need a formula or something to know what the heck I am doing, because I'm not very good at math. She goes on these pointless math tangents, too, just because she's an "i <3 math" nerd.
Spends ALOT of time on the same problem, I guess to make sure you uunderstand. Tests are pretty hard, but you get partial credit if you try.
Mrs.Abney is really sweet. I love her! I've always been horrible at math, and I'm not so clear with the way she teaches, but as long as you actually study how to do the problems, you should be okay. Her tests are usually 6-10 questions with mulitple parts, but she gives partial credit so that's always good!
she doesn't really explain things. puts a problem up on the bord then lets the students teach each other. could of made an a, i just didn't try at the start of the class. not hard, just hard to pay attention
Very good teacher. Describes things well, and is very caring about her students. I love math, and really liked her class. If you do not like math, she is willing to help you.
Not good at teaching. She will put one problem on the board & then go over it the whole class period. Her tests don't reflect her teachings. Basically, the book is your teacher! Very strict on attendance. Final is impossible!!! She will fail you
i didnt pay much attention in class but this teacher is hot! i was looking at her the whole time. pretty good teacher too.
She's a great professor and her tests are easy.
She was a very sweet lady she just sounds really stupid. She never really explained everything very well and that made her class hard. You basically had to teach yourself.
She would go over a problem for a full hour and fifteen minutes and you still wouldn't understand what she was talking about. Not to mention even when you thought you understood what was going on you look at the test and have no clue what the questions were asking.
First math teacher at this University whose tests I've passed. Will help if you ask; she was my saving grace in a math department full of tools.
She is not a good teacher at all. She puts a problem on the board at the beginning of class called the "bell ringer" (umm, hello, we're not in high school anymore) and then she spends the entire class period going over that one problem. At the end of class, she gives out homework over things you haven't even gone over in class. Awful teacher.
Class was okay. She keeps you in the class the whole time and what's in the homework is never what's on the test. Review warm up exercises for tests though, because usually there's one exactly like it on the test.
Good job
Greatest prof I ever had
Gives homework that she never takes up or goes over, so nobody does it. i think she wants to be a revolutionary math teacher and really wants us to learn, but she tries way too hard. she doesn't understand that if she just gave us the equations to use and told us when to use them, we'd probably be able to figure it out.spends whole class on 1 pro
Her bell ringers were insane. You would wonder what she was on. She can not teach to save her life. You don't understand much and she is all about projects. Her tests are ridiculous. I would not even wish her on my own worse enemy. Avoid at all risks. However, she is very passionate about the subject. I'll give her that. Love Math or Drop.
Excellent professor. Extremely helpful, willing to explain in different ways if you don't understand. Extremely knowledgeable. Doesn't make you just memorize, but helps you understand the principles and how to get the result you want without memorization. Excellent for non-math-brained people.
Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Makes my least favorite subject fun and interesting.
I do not think she is a very good teacher. She doesn't teach how to do the problem she simple gives you a problem to do with out teaching it. Be prepared to teach yourself from the book. If you are not good at math try not to get behind because you are doomed when it comes test time.
Excellent prof: she is a revolutionary math teacher, so some taking intro courses may be frustrated with her methods since they are not what you're accustomed to, but you'll gain a great understanding of basic math concepts if you stick with her. Sometimes late with rubrics, but a well-taught class and very interesting.
Dr. Abney knows her math. She is nice and respectful. I had a hard time in her class but I passed. We rarely used the book. The class moves at fast pace so you must not fall behind or you're doomed. Dr. Abney goes over the concept. It is up to you to put it into use. Hard if you are not math savvy. Expect bits of trig, calc, & algebra. Intense!
All she does is give one problem per class and then assign homework. The only thing I learn from is the textbook. Also, her tests are a lot harder than the problems you do with her in class.
She is super nice, and dumbs everything down in class. But the problems on the test are so much more difficult than anything she goes over in class. I'm sure if you go to the learning center, you'll be fine. That was my mistake... I didn't start going until near the end of the semester. Try hard and show that you care, and she'll work with you.
Really didn't liker her. She is a great person but she stinks at being a teacher. You often understand everything during class but when it comes to the tests you are out of luck. DO NOT TAKE!
is not clear on grading procedure. During class she walks around the room, but mainly stays at one table throughout the entire class time. She isn't helpful when you don't understand something. She gave a project assignment but without the grading rubric and then marks off points for things you didn't know you were supposed to have. Overall ok prof
Everything you do in class is relevent to the test. If you understand everything during class, you will get an A on her exams. Make sure you write down all the examples she goes over in class. Go to class everyday. The usage of textbook isn't much but reading the required chapters will help you understand class materials better. (you will be quized
Grading was inconsistent with slow feedback. However, she was pregnant and that might have played a role in her timeline. The class was easy enough with thoroughly explained topics.
sorry this is the first teach I took for Math Model and I got an F. She knew that I went to the help center every morning but she didn't care. She still gave me an F. Nice woman but not the best teacher. Take Mr. Paul
She is a really awesome teacher. Her teaching methods are different but overall it is a better way to actually learn Math. It is hard for students who don't like math because she does not spoon feed you towards the test.
Teaches only applications. Rarely uses book, and gives out plenty of worksheets. All of my classmates complained about her but I thought the class was too easy. She has a young child so she isn't extremely available. If you understand math easy, take her. If not, don't.
Do not take this teacher. You do not learn anything from class and you fall behind the other classes.
She is a teacher that's passionate about her content and helps you. But she can get very confusing at times. Make sure you know your material very well prior to the test, ask many questions.
first test is hard because she formats her tests really weird. once you get the hang of it it gets easier. Really pay attention because she explains it really well but you cant zone out. doesnt care about attendence but you have to go or you fall behind alot. really hands on, ask alot of questions. overall a good professor and is really nice
Knows what she is talking about but does not teach it very well at all. The test are difficult because the format is weird. Material is confusing. Would not recommend this class to anyone.
Abney doesnt teach the information well at all expect to teach yourself the whole class. In class material, HW, and tests all very greatly. I found myself getting more confused and doing worse when I actually came to class. Tests are hard because she formats them oddly. Dont not take if you actually need to learn the material for future classes.
Really nice and I probably would have liked her a lot more if I had had her for another class. Unfortunately prob&stat was not my forte and but she at least made me show up and not just withdraw
She doesn't really teach and when she does she does not make any sense. She uses the word "stuff" in the most random places and makes it even harder to understand math. I would not recommended taking her if you really need a good grade. There is homework on my math lab, but it barely relates to what she teaches us in class. We don't take notes.
When I saw her rating on here, I was worried. After taking her, I can say she is an AMAZING professor. Math has never come easy for me, however I understood everything in this course. It was an easy A. Go to class, pay attention to her hands on examples (be able to explain them for exam questions), and do all the homework! As & Bs are managable!
The class can be difficult at times and it is unclear most of the time what she is asking of you. The exams are difficult, but I wouldn't let any of this discourage you. She is a very nice woman who loves what she does! Even though the class is not for me, I would take her again because of the relationship we have formed.
She is a real sweet lady and was a decent professor. Some of the stuff we did in class just seemed pointless and irrelevant to what we were tested on. She also isn't super helpful in office hours. Just make sure you show up, participate, and do well on the projects and you should be fine. Test are mostly true/false and short answer.
She is an amazing professor. Her class is one of the best classes I've taken. She explains the math and will elaborate if you are confused. Your participation grade is based on in-class assignments that are super easy. Go to her for help on projects if you are confused and she will willingly help. She gives partial credit on test answers too.
She is very sweet and a good teacher but it takes her forever to grade. I'm still waiting on 11 assignments and 1 test to be graded and the class ended 2 weeks ago. Her test is 44% of your grade. I think that is too much when you have 2 other projects in this class only worth 20% of your grade.
She is a very sweet and kind lady. I felt as she was not as organized as I am and it stressed me to no end. She is helpful in class but somethings on the test are hard to understand. Overall, she's a good professor as long as you go to class and ASK questions while you're in class.
She's so sweet but seemed completely unprepared for class. It felt like she took her usual lesson plan and simply HOPED it would work in a COVID setting, it didn't. Lil group projects were a PAIN to do in class and the lessons felt like word vomit that didn't specify WHY it was important.
Dr. Abney is such a nice person who has a clear structure for a class. The one thing though is that she runs her class in a very unique way and I could see that it was tough to follow for some. Seriously, showing up is the answer to all of your prayers. Have a good semester!
Dr Abney is very nice, her class can be boring at times little but she will help with anything you need. It's a lot of group work and in-class projects are part of your grade. She is very nice with tests and sometimes lets you go over wrong answers to get a better grade. For a stat class, it was great and not that hard compared to others
Professor Abney is very nice lady; however, I would not recommend her as a teacher. Professor Abney teaches very confusingly and I feel like I had to teach myself all the material. She does not respond to emails rarely, if at all. And lastly, she has still failed to grade multiple assignments, leaving students to not know their average at the end.
She is a sweet lady but no offense it just seemed like she had no idea what she was doing the whole semester. She is very unclear about directions then gets mad at students for needing clarification. It is so obvious that she could not be bothered by any of her students. She never grades anything and gave us new material 3 days before the final.
This is the most ridiculous class i have ever taken. The units taught in this class make no sense. Half the time Abney did not know what she was talking about. She gives so much work. Everyone but 2 people failed every test taken. She does not respond to emails ever. She gave pages of hw during finals week, instead of allowing us to study.
Shes unclear about assignment requirements, but if you ask her in class or during office hours she will be more specific. It was hard to know what exactly to study for tests. If you participate in class, youre more likely to remember the info since there is a lot of modeling. Shes super nice!
She teaches in a way that makes statistics 100 times more confusing than it should be. She seems as if she doesn't even know what she is talking about. She is extremely unclear about what we are learning and what we should study. Do not take this class with her.
Dr. Abney does not know how to teach the material we need to learn. She uses activities to teach the whole lesson and chapter instead of teaching us rules and things we should know about statistics. I am failing her class right now, and I know several other people that are struggling in there too. I don't recommend her.
I'm currently taking her class and if you can, literally choose anyone else to take the course with. She's very nice but she does not teach the material in a way that gets you ready for her tests. We mainly do group work and then present our "results" and thats literally it. If I had known she was gonna teach the class this way I would've dropped.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is a great person, but she didn't teach the material well at all. She often would seem annoyed when I would ask for clarification. Most of the things we did in her class were based on group work but we had to ask for help every time she gave us an assignment because we didn't understand what she was asking us to do.
I took her last semester and she's very sweet but can be very disorganized and have confusing lectures. When I took her she barely put any of our grades in, and even that was at the end of the semester. Luckily her final is a group project/presentation worth a large percentage of your grade. Nice lady but I wouldn't take her again.
This class is only required for EDUC majors. Most times it was very difficult to understand what she was saying and she didn't really teach well but the content was pretty easy to understand. Very heavy on discussion posts they are REQUIRED. I changed my major and I dropped the class so this info is based on the six weeks I was in the class.
Dr. Abney was very sweet. She has very good intentions, but it can be very hard to learn in her class. She teaches through blocks and rolling dice. If you really try to grasp the material, you will be fine, but it is not a super easy course.
Abney is a nice person but she does not teach her material well. She will show us how to do a problem once and forget about it.The material is very hard and she does not explain to us how to work out the problems. Test are basically all written responses and no multiple choice and she takes off points for the littlest things. Don't recommend
Everything you do in class is basically pointless but she does randomly grade things done in class so it is better if you go to class. She is a really nice person but as a professor, she isn't that great.
Although Dr. Abney is a sweet lady, she cannot teach material well. She is very hard to reach outside of class and her teaching style is kinda all over the place. I have never taken a stat class before, so it is difficult to follow. She is helpful in class and does a lot of group work together and hands on activities.
Ms. Abney is a very nice person and lenient with work. She does not teach good at all. When she lectures its very confusing and she insists on constantly doing group work. Whenever I would ask her question a I would end up being more confused then when I started. Her test are not the worst but it's difficult to study for them. I wouldn't recommend.
Gives very unclear instructions and is not a good teacher. Tests are hard, because she doesn't specifically go over the material. She is nice, but I wouldn't recommend.
Dr.Abney is a caring professor for what its worth, but she isn't always the best at teaching. Going to class is a must as she does random assignments in class and if you miss it you get a zero. Its not clear when certain assignments will be. 90% of her students fail her tests and she usually has to do extra credit so all her students won't fail.
Her lectures were boring and confusing. When you asked a question she never gave a straight answer. Her tests were difficult because she didn't fully cover the material on the test. She waits till the very last minute to grade assignments so you don't know your grade until grades are due. It also takes sending 2 or 3 emails to get her to respond.
Dr. Abney is a super sweet lady, but she does not fully explain. The classes are mainly spent on just one problem and then she moves on. Everything is online and personally I cannot learn math online. I feel confused 90% of the time. Office hours are only on class day and even there she doesn't fully explain. She hardly responds to emails.
She is very nice but her tests were a little bit tricky! She does a lot of group things in class so make sure you sit by people you like in your class because you will do a lot of things with them. Occasional homework, 2 tests, 2 projects. A lot of chances to get your grade up!
Dr. Abney's class was one that I would not say was bad, just very median. Review what she talks about outside of class because you do not do repetition in class and move on from topic quickly. Definitely use the learning center while taking this class and try not to miss class because there are pop-assignments for grades.
I took Pre-Calculus in high school so this class was easier for me than most. Professor Abney is very nice and understanding but I wish she would do more notes rather than working problems. If you ask her a question though, she is great at helping out and does care about her students. She gives study guides for each test too which helps a lot.
mannnnnn, this class was tough. Usually I am a scholar in math and when I say scholar I mean a academic weapon. If this class was tough for me it would definitely be tough for you so I do not recommend.
overall, she's a nice professor, but her teaching style is hard to understand. she's easy to talk to, but it's rare to get good feedback. she only has a few tests, and most of the work is on pearson, but it's not a lot. your grades are only gonna be the tests and pearsons. be prepared to teach yourself the material.
This class was extremely difficult. Professor Abney is very unorganized, and has lack of communication with her students. The tests are extremely difficult, and she is a hard grader on all assignments. Therefore, this made studying for the tests extremely difficult. Getting an A on the two projects are needed in order to not fail this class.
Professor Abney is a wonderful person, however she lacks organization in her classroom. Instructions for assignments are unclear. You are graded off a couple tests and projects, with a few homework assignments and quizzes as grade boosters. The tests are extremely hard and she is a really tough grader. Ask a lot of questions and go to office hours!
I liked Abney she's very kind but confusing. Attendance mandatory. 2 tests, I got A's on both, one with the help of EC she offers. You HAVE to put in work to understand the topics outside class. (PPs & book), it is not as impossible as people make it out. 2 projects, she grades a lil touch but I got A's. Ended with a 96 in class.
If you can avoid taking her I would. She genuinely makes no sense in class at all and anytime I have ever asked a question I end up more confused. More than half the class actually failed our first exam. She makes us do group work everyday which just feels like laziness on her end because the work we do doesn't help us on the exam.
Abney is a very sweet lady but not great at teaching. She is very helpful though and if you're confused shell do her best to answer your questions.
she doesn't teach she just expects you to know it
I am usually a math person, but her teaching style was super unorganized and was chaotic to say the least. She had very poor communication when it came to assignments and due dates, so it was very hard to stay on track. Save yourself some stress and take this class with a different prof.
This class was the most insane, awful math class I have ever taken. She has an awful teaching style and was very unhelpful when asking questions. Your entire grade consists of 2 tests and 2 group projects, and online math homework. She doesn't grade super harshly, so it's the only way I passed this class. If you can take a different professor.
Didn't let me put 0
if i could give professor abney a 0 i would. her teaching style is the worst i have EVER seen in my life. she teaches you nothing and expects you to know everything. dont bother going to ask her for help because i left more confused then when i came in. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!
Dont take her. Makes no sense when talking and will make you confunsed when you ask questions. SO many people fail her exams bc you don't know what you are supposed to know. So much group work, also she will put random grades in class randomly. She just says the words and expects you to know what she says. Hard to explain but trust me.
She is nice but this class is unnecessarily difficult. She hands out worksheets and plays on her phone and expects you to figure it out. I failed 2/3 tests and even the learning center could not figure out what she wanted. I would try to get anyone else.
Her lectures were a little slow, but she does lots of practice problems throughout. Pretty boring at times but not hard at all.
Someone please get this woman needs some robitussin and a couple vitamin c packets, she was coughing the whole semester, I hope she's okay. Her lectures were all over the place if you looked down for one minute you would be lost. Also always started the class with a dumb group assignment that took 30 mins and would rush on the lecture as a result.
