Angel is a genuinely caring prof. She wants her students to do well and provides tons of support. Her lectures are boring and she just reads off her slides. She is prompt with marking and feedback. Her tests are clear and she gives good direction for what to study.
Horrible experience. She didnt show that she cared and didnt help or answer questions well. Terrible at explaining things. I loved the course but I would take it with another teacher.
Angel Chen is one of the best professors in Langara college
Can barely speak English, decided to count her grammatical errors during one class and counted 57. Hard to understand her lectures, but easy to figure out from the textbook.
Such a chill class. The tests are all multiple choice. Dont skip class. Great instructor. Use her review sheet to look up terms in the textbook and take notes. Thats what I did and i ended up with an A. Her tests are really easy if you go over her review sheet and go to class. Best prof for Psych hands down. Had no problem with her English its fine
Shes very caring. Im taking her right now for 1115 and so far shes very nice. sometimes she makes errors because her english isnt perfect but you can tell that she cares about her students. shes really nice :) just read the textbook alot. she reads right off the powerpoints in lectures tho
She is a great instructor and gives extra credit.
Great prof. Gives you all the tools to succeed. All lecture notes posted online. Tests are multiple choice and she tells you exactly what to study. I would highly HIGHLY recommend getting the Study Guide companion book to the text book. Many of the test questions are taken directly from this study guide or are very similar.
She just reads off of very lengthy slides for the whole class. I was very disappointed as I am very passionate about child psychology and was let down. She is not passionate. She is a robot. VERY insensitive to very personal, delicate material. Laughs at inappropriate times, gives inaccurate information. Boo.
Angel is really nice, but her lectures are dry and she often seems tired (given our class is quite late in the day). Exams are multiple choice and fairly easy if you just read over the lecture slides. Fair grader in my opinion & even offers an easy 1% extra credit assignment at the start of the semester.
Class was very straight forward. All the notes are posted online. There are a couple of occasional group in class activities. The tests are all multiple choice and easy. All the tests are also non-cumulative. Would definitely recommend you to take this class.
I found her super sweet and i loved going to her classes. She always let us out early, and her tests are entirely based on her slides which are pretty easy to follow besides a few spelling mistakes here and there. Minimal assignments but a few group projects throughout the year. Good GPA booster.
I had Dr. Chen and she was so nice and easy. Her tests are multiple choice and non-cumulative, and very easy if you attend class and study. Her English isn't perfect, but it's understandable. I would recommend her to anyone planning to take this course.
Easy class. Drops 2% per missed class but you can skip every once in a while, especially since she just reads from lecture notes. 3 non cumulative multiple choice midterms (3rd midterm is final) that seriously are like half common sense. Possible to study the day before midterm and do well. In my case, possible to not study at all and get like 72.
Good GPA booster. Tests are from the slides which makes them very easy to study for. Although the lectures may be dull you can just go over them later. Even I got an A in this course so that says a lot. The lecture room is always freezing tho.
Easy class, good professor, good experience. 10/10, would take again.
A straight-forward prof, teaches off of lecture slides which are posted online. The exams were quite easy with no trick questions. In-class assignments where you could use your notes and work in groups which were easy ways of upping your grade and good incentive to not skip the Friday morning lecture. A good teacher for a basic intro course.
she is the best an d easy too to score A in her class
just attend class and you can pass easily
Pros: Exams are all multiple choice. Launchpad quizzes are worth 14%. Cons: She will sometimes misrepresent/give inaccurate info in an attempt to oversimplify concepts. If you want an open minded, engaging class that inspire you to see things from a new perspective - this isn't the one to take. But if all you care about is credit/A+ then go for it.
Amazing teacher. just attend class and you'll pass.
Super easy instructor. Exams are straightforward, no trick questions. Easy A.
Angel is the best prof Ive ever had. She is extremely responsive with emails and is extremely caring. She genuinely wants everyone to do well. She might not explain stuff in great detail, but if you ask, she will try her best to help you understand
She gives slides. Exams are both from slides and the book. Midterm and final are MCQs. One essay assignment. Make sure you do the Launchpad quizzes. Bonus points can be earned by participating in psychology surveys in the college.
A very nice teacher who recaps material from the textbook sufficiently. Her exams tend to center mainly around her slides/lectures which makes studying a little less brutal, and overall she's an easy A and a fun prof!
Angel's a real gem. Took PSYC 1115/1215 with her. Follow her study guide & you'll get A. Her exams come from both the notes/textbook but mostly from the notes. Honestly speaking I didn't use the textbook much for both the classes so you could borrow the book from the library & save some money. Take every opportunity she gives you to boost your mark
Angel was amazing! She's such a kind professor and puts a lot of effort into her pdf lectures. All tests are MC and easy if you understand the material. I recommend her for 1115! You will not regret it.
Angel is a great prof for an intro PSYC course. I rarely used the textbook, in cases where I needed more information in addition to the slides she provides. The exams have a good amount of MC questions and she prepares you really well for them by providing a list of what to review. She is also very kind and understanding.
So much content! Textbook, powerpoint, recorded lectures, and videos assigned each week. Exam questions pulled from every resource so don't skip anything! Quizzes/discussions every wk, sounds like a lot but necessary to stay on track! Clear feedback on wkly assignments and exams felt great. Time management is so important for this course.
She explains the lectures clearly and gives us handouts every lecture so we can visually practice what we've learned. There are group activities which are not hard at all. She has very good examples and listens to her student's opinions.
Professor Chen provides very detailed power point slides, along with videos that help explain the chapters well. I found that reviewing the power points and quizzing myself on launchpad were the best for fully understanding concepts and doing well in the course. Do all of the activities, they help you achieve a high grade.
Please do not write wrong reviews here I took course with her because here she has good rate but she traeted students differently.she was very rude to because I missed class so stay away from her very cruel prof has no humanity toward students issues and concerns.
Nice prof, pretty chill class. Exams are all MC, you will do fine as long as you memorize the concepts listed on the study guide.
Angel is an amazing prof. Her lectures were simple and grading criteria is clear. Exams are multiple choice only. Just listen to what she talks about during the lectures and you will do fine. If you don't attend, don't expect to get a good mark. She's also cute.
Horrible prof she is very rude and does not care about students plus too much homeworks stay away from her i have no clu why she has good rate here so weird she is not nice
Good prof. Ignore the poor ratings. If you barely come to class and don't listen during her lectures, don't be surprised if you get a low mark. Angel was readily available during office hours. Easy A for most people.
Attendance isn't mandatory but recommended. Easy exams.
Angel is such a nice instructor. Her explanations are clear and her lectures are interesting. I enjoyed the group activities as they helped with learning new materials. I highly recommend taking her class.
- 3 extra credits - lovely, helpful and inspirational teacher - capable to get A+ without reading the textbook - midterms and exam: 7X-80 MCQ, based on her lecture slides and the module slides from the publisher - one of the best professors in Langara !!
Really clear slides and given information! Posts a study guide before each exam! Really friendly and accessible outside of class! Angel is literally the best! P.S if you want to do well make sure to do the practice tests from the psych lab!!
Professor Chen is extremely intelligent and takes her classes seriously and treats everyone equally and with respect. Her boyfriend is a cop who attends class here and there which is awesome for real life stories and challenges about Policing for Criminal Justice program students. She's a tough but fair grader. Study the pre exam guides for A+.
Angel was an excellent prof!! Her lectures were easy to understand and the exam outlines were super useful, as they outlined everything you had to focus on. Would definitely recommend!
Very nice teacher. friendly and responsive.
Super nice instructor!! If you thoroughly review the lecture notes and modules, you'll do just fine :) exams are all multiple choice I think we had 70 questions on two of the exams and for the final 85 multiple choice all non cumulative !
She is the best professor of psychology. She speaks clearly while giving lectures so that everyone can understand the concept. Lectures are interesting and knowledgeable. Amazing professor. Give bonus points.
Very interesting course! Homework is easy, but the textbook is lengthy. Angel's lectures are great, and worksheets/kahoots keep students involved. Group projects are open book and easy to ace. Exams are all multiple choice!
i really liked angel's class. lecture slides were simple and easy to understand. theres a lot of stuff for completion marks only so as long as you do that, you can raise your grade. tests are all mc and she gives exam guidelines to help you study.
angel's nice. i recommend reading the textbook to help u study even though u'd probably be okay with just the lecture and module slides. also recommend doing learning curves on achieve. lots of marks which are just for completion
This class was fun and relatively easy, lecture slides were parts of each chapter from the textbook condensed and explained in a simple way. The lectures themselves were quite boring because of this but all the info in them was super helpful for the midterms/final. Very interesting course and I learned a lot, would recommend.
I often felt like I was memorizing facts rather than understanding psychology. There was little interaction or application just regurgitating terms. Psychology should be about people, not PowerPoints.
I felt totally overwhelmed. The pace was really fast, and she didn't slow down even when people asked questions. I wanted to love psych, but this made me feel like maybe I wasn't cut out for it. The grading was fair, but participation expectations were intense.
Dr. Chen was punctual and structured, but not very empathetic. As someone working part-time while studying, I struggled to keep up with the workload. She didn't offer extensions unless it was a major emergency, which created unnecessary stress.
I thought this class would make me love psychology. Instead, I found it dry and repetitive. Dr. Chen seems knowledgeable, but her teaching style didn't help me stay engaged. It wasn't terrible, just… forgettable.
It was fine. That's really the best way I can put it. Not exciting, not awful. Just kind of there. If you're self-motivated, you'll be okay. But if you rely on engaging lectures to stay on track, this one's tough.
This class was basically the textbook on a projector. If I'd known that ahead of time, I'd have just borrowed the book and self-studied. Not worth the stress for what little I actually retained.
Most questions had only one “correct” answer, even for topics that could be debated. It's psychology, not math. I got penalized for having a slightly different perspective, which was discouraging.
Why am I showing up to class if she's literally reading what I can read at home? I miss professors who teach, not just recite.
She expects us to do tons of extra reading and watch videos that repeat the textbook. It's exhausting to keep up with this and other classes.
The amount of reading, videos, and assignments is way too much, especially for a course designed for beginners. There's no real guidance on how to manage it all, which makes balancing this course with others nearly impossible. It felt like a full-time job with no help.
We weren't given any study guides, practice quizzes, or even sample questions. Having to guess what might be on the exam just added to the anxiety, especially when other classes offer solid prep materials. It made me question if the professor cares about student success.
The professor talks either way too slowly or goes off-topic into personal stories that have no relevance. This made it really hard to focus, and many students, including me, found ourselves zoning out or struggling to keep up. Learning should be engaging, not a test of endurance.
Many tasks felt like copying information straight from the book with no critical thinking involved. This made the workload feel pointless and didn't help deepen understanding of the subject.
The exams focused heavily on minor details or confusing wording rather than core concepts. This made it feel like the goal was to catch students off guard instead of assessing real knowledge, which was demoralizing.
Online resources were often broken or missing, and technical problems weren't addressed promptly. This caused unnecessary stress and wasted valuable study time, especially when many students rely on digital access.
Instead of breaking down complex ideas or providing examples, the professor just reads the slides word for word. This made lectures dry and unengaging, and I found I learned more by studying on my own than sitting through class.
She rarely sends reminders or clarifications, and assignments sometimes appear last minute. It's stressful trying to keep track when you have multiple courses, and it feels like she doesn't care about how busy we are.
I came to class expecting to learn but ended up listening to personal stories or unrelated topics. It made focusing difficult, and I wasted time on material that wasn't relevant for exams.
The professor expects you to watch a ton of extra videos outside class, which often repeat textbook content. If you have other classes, this becomes overwhelming and feels like busywork.
When students expressed confusion or concerns, the professor mostly ignored it. There was no effort to adjust teaching style or clarify difficult topics, which was disappointing and demoralizing.
Despite the professor's passion for the subject, the delivery was monotonous and failed to engage the class. I found myself zoning out and relying solely on the textbook to pass
The professor doesn't highlight key topics or give guidance on exam prep. Without clear direction, it was confusing trying to figure out what was important.
There's way too much content for a first-year course, and assignments are too demanding given the time allowed. It made juggling this class with others really difficult.
Complex topics are rushed through or poorly explained, which left many of us confused and frustrated. It's hard to learn when you don't understand the basics.
When questions are asked, the tone sometimes feels dismissive or belittling. This discouraged many from seeking help, which impacted learning negatively.
There's a constant disconnect between what she says in lecture and what's actually on the exams. I spent hours studying her slides and notes only to get questions on random topics we barely touched. It's confusing and feels unfair.
Communication was a big problem. Emails went unanswered for days, sometimes weeks. When you're a first-year student trying to navigate a challenging course, not getting timely responses adds unnecessary stress.
The professor tends to ramble off-topic a lot, which wastes class time. Instead of focusing on core concepts, we'd hear unrelated anecdotes or personal stories. It made it tough to focus and left us scrambling to catch up.
Study guides or practice exams were nonexistent, which made preparing for tests a guessing game. For a demanding course, this lack of support was really disappointing and made success feel like luck.
The professor's expectations for APA formatting and assignments were ridiculously strict. Even minor errors were harshly penalized, which felt unfair given the lack of clear instruction on these standards.
Group assignments were poorly managed. Some students did all the work, while others sat and did nothing. There was no real accountability or support to make these projects meaningful or fair.
Dr. Chen frequently contradicted textbook material without clarifying why or which source was correct. This inconsistency was frustrating and made preparing for exams stressful.
Office hours were often unavailable or unhelpful. When I did attend, I didn't get the support I needed, which left me feeling isolated and struggling alone with difficult concepts.
The professor's tone can come across as condescending or impatient, especially when students ask questions. This created a tense environment that discouraged participation and made learning harder.
The grading assistant seemed overly strict, marking down for minor errors or missing details, even when the main content was solid. This harsh grading caused a lot of unnecessary stress.
i was so excited to learn psych, but this course made me question if I even belonged in college. I started doubting myself, even though I've done well in other classes. That's how discouraging it got.
This class killed my love for psychology, honestly. I came in curious and left burnt out. Now I'm scared to take another psych course.
I left this course knowing I never wanted to be taught like this again. Not because I dislike the subject, but because I realized how important it is to have professors who actually teach not just read from slides and hope you figure it out.
This wasn't learning. This was performance under pressure memorize fast, write fast, guess fast. No time to think deeply, no space to ask questions, just go go go.
It's weird how a course can be both too much and not enough. Overloaded with readings, underwhelming in explanation. Just a ton of effort for very little clarity.
I gave this course everything I had. Hours of reading, constant review, going to office hours. I still barely passed. I left feeling like a failure even though I did my best.
The real damage isn't just the bad grade—it's how this course made me question if I'm even smart enough for college. That's the cost of poor teaching. It makes good students shrink.
You go in expecting to learn psychology. You come out learning how to survive stress. That wasn't the point of this class, but that's what it taught me.
I couldn't tell if she didn't know how to teach… or just didn't care to. Either way, we were left doing all the learning on our own.
I don't mind a tough course if it's fair. But this didn't feel fair. The exams were full of niche details never covered in lecture, and there was no way to prepare properly.
I wanted to love this class, but it felt like we were set up to fail. The lectures were vague, expectations unclear, and feedback felt more like judgment than guidance. It drained my motivation week by week. This isn't how students should feel in a psych course.
Ok so there was way too much content, barely any guidance, and exams that tested random facts. I couldn't keep up, and my other courses suffered. It felt like a trap. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with a full course load.
i wanted to love this course because Angel seems genuinely invested in the material, but her lectures lack structure. She jumps between topics without clarifying key ideas, which made studying for exams a guessing game. I spent more time rewatching recordings and rereading the textbook than actually absorbing new info in class.
I really wanted to enjoy this class, but it felt like Prof. Chen didn't put much effort into connecting with students. She just lectured from slides and rarely made eye contact or encouraged questions.
Tests were super detail-oriented and required memorization of random facts from the textbook that were never brought up in class.
Accessibility is a big issue. She didn't record lectures, didn't post them, and if you missed one, you were out of luck.
No trigger warnings before sensitive psych topics (e.g. trauma, abuse). Some students were visibly upset. I think that's unacceptable for a psych prof…especially in 2025.
First of all, there's zero effort to accommodate different learning styles or difficulties. The workload is overwhelming, and the expectations are unrealistic for a first-year course. It made balancing other classes nearly impossible.
I genuinely wish I'd never taken this course. It destroyed my interest in psychology. The stress, confusion, and lack of support made me rethink my entire major.
If you care about your GPA or mental health, do yourself a favor and pick another professor. This course drained me emotionally and academically. I regret every moment spent in this class.
Assignments get piled up with tight deadlines, often overlapping with other classes. It's impossible to manage if you're taking a full course load.
She piles on work with impossible deadlines, leaving zero time for other classes or personal life. It's a recipe for burnout.I lost sleep, cried, and seriously considered dropping out because of how awful this class was. Avoid at all costs unless you want your mental health destroyed.
She expects you to come in with psych knowledge already. She doesn't really adapt to different learning styles, and if you need extra time or support, don't count on it, she gives almost no leeway for extensions, no matter the reason.
She makes you feel dumb for asking questions and gives barely any useful feedback to help you improve. Replies to emails days later. Expects you early every day, yet she's often late or cancels with no notice, no explanation, and no regard.
The course relies heavily on memorization rather than critical thinking or practical skills. It feels like you're just trying to memorize facts for exams instead of understanding concepts deeply or learning how to apply them.
it was an alright class, tests weren't as hard because it was multi choice. Although assignments will build up if you procrastinate. Her lectures can be quite boring and repetitive. Her way of lecturing can be inconsistent as she can switch up from talking really fast to kind of slow
She spends more time telling personal stories that don't relate to psychology than actually teaching. Sometimes we just sit there waiting while she talks about her hobbies or old research from decades ago. Then the quizzes and tests ask about very specific details from the readings that we never discussed in class.
Chen is very friendly and super understanding! she is amazing in actuality. she will help you where you are so you can be where you want to be!
Shes hard to understand at times but overall great lectures, teaches directly from textbook and tests are straight forward and not confusing. Shes easy to talk to and happy to help explain concepts after class, and respects accommodations. You'll do great in this class if you stay on top of homework and read the textbook thoroughly.
Great prof, has clear expectations is a fair marker.
100% would take her class again, interesting lectures and straightforward tests
Good lectures, does good job highlighting what will be on the tests
Dr. Chen gives really good lectures and outlines what we need to study very well. I did well in this class because of her informative slides and by keeping up wirh the weekly homework. She's great at explaining concepts if you ask and seems to genuinely care about her students. 100% would take again and she's my first suggestion for psych students.
I think Angel should be rated 5 out of 5, I do not know why people write bad reviews, but for the midterms and the final exam, she literally gave a list of things and terms that would be useful in the exam, her presentations are interesting and she often interacted with our class, letting us experience for ourselves how psychology works for us
