This teacher is pretty easy when it comes to this hard class. She is very helpful and patient, which helps. Recommended for this required class.
She is a good prof. The great thing about this class is that you have open note, open book tests, and she tells you what sections from the book are going to be on the test.
BAD TEACHER TO TAKE. LOTS OF WORK LOAD AND UNCLEAR INSTRUCTIONS.
Open note open book. Very stubborn and sometimes is very "holier than thou". She is nice most of the time...my recommendation is either or...

High standards but fair. Very interested in student progress and writing ability. Good commnication skills.

Strong communication skills and understanding of students. Very helpful and straightforward.
This class has alot of work, and it's not an easy class. She is fair with grading and will give you what you deserve. Synax test is very hard, but it is from the Department. Midterm and Final are open book and open notes.
Prof. Aleiss is cool; I actually liked her. She is a tough grader though(very picky!)Tests are open book and assignments aren't too bad. Grading scales sucks though, 92% for an A. She is willing to help, yet can be a little b*tchy.
Boring and way too prim. If you end up with her bring a scantron 882 e first day of class.
Good communicator, clear assignments. All IS 301 sections are the same, so everyone needs that scantron the first day of class!
getting ready to take open book final as we speak. There are some assignments that are very helpful in structuring your career - resume, cover letter. There is a syntax test that you need to pass with at least an 80%. IF you don't, the highest score you can get is a "C". Rather dull, but knows students name, so if you miss class, she might call it.
She is intimidating and at times pretentious. But, she was fair with her grading and helpful when approached. Helpful assignments and open book, open note midterm and final. The IS 301 requirements suck though.
Requirements for all IS 301 sections are the same, and they're tough. She's a no-nonsense teacher and committed to her students. Be prepared to work, however, and push yourself. You'll learn!
This IS 301 class is very helpful for life and that's why it is difficult. (92-A, 83-B, 74-C). There is a lot of work-which reminds you of high school homework. Grading is fair (most of the time). She's somewhat helpful, pretty clear, and it doesn't matter who your teacher is-the class should be taken seriously.
This teacher is tough, if something little is wrong you will lose alot of points, she also grades on a 8.0 grading scale, so if your smart and want a challenge take this class. Open book/notes midterm and final. She doesn't help you that much, she always says refer to the book.

pick your group members wisely. you will lose points if she's not happy with what you did. Tough grader and i feel like she needs to lighten up sometimes. Resume and direct memo excercises were helpful. Other than that, it doesn't matter who you take, you will be stressed at the way they're picky with grading and not with the work load. good luck!
A hard class but if you put in effort you will learn a lot and probably do well grade wise. She is a bit pretentious but I guess she has the credentials and experience to back it up. It's just not the right attitude to have when you teach because people then feel too intimidated to ask questions or participate in class.
Not an easy class. Come prepared to do work. Grading is picky. You learn a lot in this class though, especially through the resume, memo, and the C.L.U.E exam. 2 individual short presentations, and 1 group presentation at the end of class. Just be careful of format, put some work into it and you'll be fine.

The class is tough because you have to pass this CLUE exam with a 80/100 or higher. If you don't pass, the highest grade in the class you can get is a C. There is a lot of work including: resume, letter, memo, individual speech and group project. The grading scale is also 74% up C, 82% up B, 90% up A. Listen well, don't ask qst's, she will snap.
I liked the class though it is a lot of work. Her requirements are dictated by the department, though and all IS 301 sections are the same. Pretty good course. She is helpful, but with 32 students in the class it can be crowded at times.
She's ok I guess. She's pretty full of herself (you can tell by the way she talks) and she's VERY picky about how she grades assignments. The work she gives isn't hard, it's just a matter of getting it done. She doesn't really answer questions. If you ask her a question she'll answer by asking a question. If you can take someone else, do it!
VERY STRICT grading. Otherwise, not much else to say. Easy class if you are good at English. Open book exams are easy. Two presentations: solo and group. Again, she is super picky about details and grading. Her grading WILL irritate you.
She is not a bad teacher. A lot of the requirements that make the class hard to do well are not in her control. MT/Final are open book-I would reccomend reading before because she ask the most random questions. its actually 92% to get an A and she is REALLY picky about things and she puts students on the spot a lot but I would take her again
She is nice. The class is hard. Grading scale is a BS standard imposed by the department. This class is a GPA killer. The assignments are quite varied and force you to use vastly different skills. I would recommend her on what I have seen thus far. If you have to be in a horrible, horrible class, you might as well have a sweet teacher.
Class is hard because of mandated testing by department. Teacher tries to be your friend, doesnt like to teach. (Rolls eyes at questions) She is the best teacher for this class, open book for midterm and final...I still dont like her though!
Most of the remarks here are true. Not the best professor to teach this class, a lot of work. But she really is no help because her answer to everything is... "just do your best." More like parents advice not Columbia University professor teaching such a demanding course advice. Try to take IS301 with someone that is not bothered with questions.
A dedicated teacher. Considering course material is mandated by dept, she does well with assignments. Show motivation with her and don't expect to be spoon fed. Very knowledgeable.
open book tests
i liked her. some of these comments by students are stupid. her education is impressive and her helpfulness is appreciated by us. she challenges you to think and that's what learning is all about.
Don't waste your time! Students making the positive remarks probably brown-nosed their way through the semester. There is a lot of work but having a helpful teacher will make all the difference in the world. At this level of our education we should know the difference between a good prof and a prof that simiply has no business teaching.
I really like her. She's much better than many of the profs i had in the bus school. she's very helpful and motivates you. i don't think personal attacks are helpful to anyone. Much of the course material is by the dept and not her.
Prof Aleiss is a good teacher. I did NOT pass her class but it was not her fault, I simply did not study as much as I should have. She explained the demand of the course to the class in detail. Most of the female students would roll their eyes when the prof tried to correct them but HELLO that's her job. This prof expects her students to learn.
beginning of the semester she was very nice..but once you start to ask questions she starts to dislike you..very full of herself and very rude..she is an ok grader but if she doesnt like you she will grade you down and she could get away with it because the grading is based on her own personal opinions
I thought she was very fair. You have to think in this class, and she encourages people to do so. It's not a personality contest, really and I learned a lot of useful things here.
she's very clear with her assignments, given that every 301 class has the same workload.
Professor Aleiss is a pretty cool teacher. She knows her stuff and I agree with some of the other students. The content of the assignments are really up to the department, not her. The material is really helpful and she has a lot of great advice. Her class was actually really entertaining. She always said the most funniest things.
She is a horrible professor. Has her favorite students, does not like questions and is rude. Overall does not care about her students.
She's a grat professor! I would recommend taking her because she spends xtra time with her students and helps them. Very detailed about papers and good lectures.
This teacher is a slacker if you ask for help good luck she does not care about her students..
Dr. Aleiss cares very much abour her students. I learned so much in this class. She's one of the best professors I've ever had even thought writing isn't my favorite subject.
Dr. Aleiss is probably one of the better 301 teachers but her absence in the middle of the semester screwed everything up. 2 midterms, final, oral presentation, and a group presentation. Midterms and test is open book, open notes. Pretty easy class. Business 8 point scale sucks though (92=A, not 90). Also, clue exam which is easy.
Dr. Aleiss can be a nice teacher, but she can be the meanest teacher aswell. What's hard about her is that she does not explian the material very well and u find urself guessing most of the time. She does have her prefered students (usually Whites), if u are one of them and put a little effort - You'll do well. Otherwise, work ur behind off.
this class is good to learn basics of writing and speaking. the grading scale is 8 pts though and not hers. she is a good teacher no matter what your background is.. i really got a lot from her.
I really did not learn much from Prof. Aleiss. For me as a non-native English speaker, she did not talk clearly. If you need help with grammar and writing I recommend that you get help from LAC in Horn Center. LAC' tutors are really helpful.
I thought she was very clear with her assignments and help. grading scale is tough but it's the course coordinator's and not hers. She treats students like adults and handles whiners well.
Overall she will be one of the easier teachers for this class. If you are good at doing thing in advance this class will be a breeze, otherwise get ready for some mental anguish. This is the type of class that requires looking up correct formatting and grammatical structures.
She is very clear with her assignments. Always willing to and help. Grading scale is not hers but mandated by the school. Do what she says and all of your work and you will get a B and with some work, an A.
She is a great teacher. I had a lot of fun in this class. She is very clear with what she wants. I would take her! No huge assignments. Tough A because of mandatory grading scale by department but she is cool. Take her!
This prof. is more interested in not being in class then she is in teaching. If you like to waste your time and money to get a C, then take her.
She's a great teacher and listens to her students' ideas and issues. I learned a lot, esp the oral and team presentations.
She's extremely straight to the point and clear on what she wants. Because of the Dept's grading scale, it's not her fault that attaining an A is hard. However, it's not impossible as long as you follow exact instructions, study, and ask questions. I'd love to take her again.
If you can kiss up, take her. She picks favorites. If she doesn't like you, forget it. Worthless class. She blames everything on the "department". Well, the department doesn't prevent her from teaching .. she does.
She's very fair and helpful with her students from all backgrounds. Willing to asist during office hours and make accommodations to students who have difficulties.
i took her bc she used to use open book/note, but she doesnt n e more.class is simple, go & listen 2 her lecture. she doesnt gv much prac for clue, but by the 3rd time its easy to get 80.only 1 personal pres & 1 group.no hmwk only aplia for the first month.easy B if u go to every class & do well on pres.
If you like paying for nothing, this is the prof. 4 u b/c that is what you will get. She pretends to be nice right b4 evals - blames everything she doesn't do on someone else. Hookup with an "A" person for your group - why not?
Her class is basically same as all IS301. She does what everyone has to do--CLUE, exams, orals, teams. Much of what you get is what you put into it. Helpful during office hours.
She's very good with teaching useful skills. But oh my god! Such stupid comments from some of the students below! They can't even write. Maybe they should take her class again!!
All the comments about this professor are true. You will either love her or hate her. Depends if you are one of her favorites. Drive her to the bus and she will like you - guaranteed B.
Some of these comments are worth reading. Others are juvenile. Just work hard and you'll learn something. she's just as dedicated to teaching as anyone else.
Very nice teacher and will help you out, just ask. All the IS 301 classes have the same work load. You have to do a group speech and a 3min. one, which was fairly easy.
This professor workload is easier than the others however all I can say is she is just unfair. She plays favorites she will either HATE YOU OR LIKE YOU.... and that's just the way it goes
Best thing about her is she gives study guide for midterm & final before mid-semester so it allows you know what to read in advance. Very nice teacher and one of the few that bother to learn your name by the second class. Overall, great teacher.
Not such a bad professor. She is very sarcastic though. Supposedly she is easier than all the other IS 301...
She plays favorites, especially if you have something in-common with her (e.g., ballet). There are MANY assignments & tests, but they're manageable. The grading scale is whack..92= A, 83= B, 74= C and 65= D, which is implemented by the department, not her. It's ridiculous that there's a midterm and final because it's more of a workshop class.
Gosh, she seems to look for common interests with anyone! We talked about movies and sports and she was always interested. Good class she tries to know her students!
Just about every business student around here wants to be mark zuckerberg. what else is new? the best part of this class is her bkgrd with presentations--really helpful for the job. she's fair despite the dept's grading system. take her!
just about every business student around here wants to be mark zuckerberg. So waht else is new? she knows alot about presentations and her grading is fair despite the dept's 8 point scale. take her.
She has her favorites, she does not explain things well, and gives plenty of busy work. You can tell she rather be somewhere else, walks out of class before students are even packed. She rather have students work as groups than to actually teach something.
She's a good teacher and is really helpful with group projects and oral presentations. Easily approachable and clear.
3 CLUE Test (1 is practice), 1 midterm and 1 final based on textbook reading, oral presentation, group project/presentation, and a handful of assignments. This class will keep you busy and at times it does seem like she has her favorites. Very detail oriented and is a tough grader, but is very helpful and prefers people to ask questions. Recommend.
Very nice professor I recommend taking her. The class is workshop oriented and its based on points on passing the class. She's cool
Aleiss is rude and not helpful at all. Seriously, she literally rolls her eyes at you while you are giving a speech rather than trying to help and improve. She also has favorites. Class is not that hard but she should not be teaching.
She's very helpful! She has lots of experience with speech techniques and communication. One of the most patient teachers I've ever had. And I do think she should go on teaching here.
She is so cute. She is helpful especially for international students. If you are non native speakers you will get so much advantage. She is the best professor in CSULB
Show up, study a little bit, and do your projects and you have an easy A. Class would be more fun and easier if the school didn't give her a mandatory syllabus.
Aleiss is one of the fairest teachers i know. she gives help if you need it and will discuss your grade with you. i got alot out of the team presentations and learned how to write in this class.
Easy to pass. Possible B. Impossible A. More impossible for non native speakers. Find a good group. If you get into a lazy group, you will find yourself doing the most work.
Extremely difficult to get an A. All IS301 courses have the same grading scale with a 92% minimum for A. Heavy workload but fairly simple assignments. Hardest part of this course was the midterm and final, which are based off textbook reading. Studying for the midterm and final exam seem straight forward but questions on exam are tricky.
this class in general is very demanding. tests, presentations, and grammar galore! she was very straight forward and quite approachable. she made her class fly by every M/W. just be prepared for a lot of work if you're taking this class (not just with her)
Professor Aleiss is one of the best teachers I had at CSULB. She has a couple of in class assignments. There is only two presenations, a midterm, and a final. She is very sweet person. I learned how to present in this class and became more confident in public speaking. Take her because you won't be afraid to speak once the class is finished.
Professor Aleiss helps you to improve your presentation skills. My experience with her is she is courteous, patient, and didn't roll her eyes at me during any presentations! She's so nice! I think if I studied for the midterm and final I could easily have gotten an A in the class!
Aleiss was sometimes rude when she gave comments and suggestions, not only to me but also to my classmates. However, she definitely cares about the students and focuses on relevant information that most students will use after taking the course. She's better compared to Lori Brown. Easy B, hard A
One of the best things about this course is that aleiss gave very good feedback to students on their oral presentations. I really got alot from her that I used in other classes. I can't compare her to anyone else teaching is301 but i would definitely take her. she was never rude to me!
She was a good communicator and teachers. Her visual aides helped. I thought she handled a student well during the oral presentation when the student threw a fit because Aleiss made a few helpful comments. The student was in my team and we were all embarrassed by her tantrum. I'd say take her class.
She is rude and not helpful at all, and will roll her eyes at you during presentations. It's either her way or nothing. She will not listen to students suggestions. Overall class is pretty easy but take a different teacher if you dont want to be embarrassed in front of the class if your presentation isn't up to her standards.
she was very helpful and the best things about this class were the oral presentations. I learned so much with her! I would definitely say take her, if you have the choice. The requirements are hard but they are the same for all is301 sections.
Gosh, i thought she was good with non-native speakers and i benefitted much from her comments when we spoke in from of the class. her speaking exercises are great for upper division management courses when they're really strict! So get the practice with her while you can.
Take her. She's very clear on what you have to do. This is a challenging class simply because there are many stuff to do. But she makes it very relaxing due to an extremely organized schedule. If you want an A, study hard for the midterm+final+2gem which are not that bad. Everything is from the book. Presentations are not bad either.
She was really clear with what she expected and cared for all of her students. All of the IS 301 classes are curved upward, so its tough to get an A or B. She definitely helps raise your grade with some easy points towards the end of the semester. The class was hard, but I would definitely take her again. And she lets class out early often!
class is ok. do the work, show up (attendance pts), study for exams and you'll be good. easy B, hard A. prof is annoying, most of my class had lots of bad stuff to say about her, weird how she has so many good reviews. but like I said, just do the work and you'll be ok. all IS 301 classes have the same work so it doesn't really matter who you take.
Most of the people in the class thought she picked on me, she kind of did, but it actually made me try harder. Got a D. Didn't care because I learned from her. Her professionalism is off putting to a lot of students, but they don't realize she has an amazing ability to bring out the best in you. You can tell she wants the best for her students.
Professor Aleiss is one of the top professors I had in business program. Graduating this semester I still haven't met someone who is more caring. Given I was late to class a few times by 30 min or so, I could have chosen to not go but I enjoyed it so much that I went even if I didn't get my attendance points. If you're in marketing, class is cake!
She is super tough & hard grader. But she is amazing. My favorite professor I've had yet. She is extremely intelligent & professional. I learned so much from her. It's a challenging class but I enjoyed it so much. Even though I took this class on Friday, I looked forward to it every week. I would highly recommend her.
Class is not that hard but a lot of work. Grade depends on very different assignments and tests. People did get A's and B's. Your 're NOT graded on how hard you work. What course in CBA grades you on how hard you work? You're graded on your skills. Not everyone has the skills to get an A. She helped improve my bus comm skills.
This teacher had no respect for her students. If you need more clarification on an assignment forget about asking her. She will only confuse you more and make you feel stupid for asking questions. No one gets an A in her class because her grading criteria is confusing, and she makes it impossible for it to be achieved.
I got an A in this course and it was alot of work but not impossible. You have to be proactive in these CBA classes and ask if you need help. She was pretty clear with assignments and some of them had real-world applications. Many students come from community colleges and think they can just kick back and get an A or B. Not gonna happen here.
all IS 301 classes use an 8 point curve 92/83/74 and so on. Most get B's and C's. class is good preparation for real world and MGT 425. people from community colleges expect an A or B and are usually shocked b/c this course is upper division. work hard, do assignments and attend class and you should get a B or C. it's the same for all IS 301.
Dr. Aleiss is very direct to the point that she can come across as rude and critical, but it seems natural for her to be that way. There aren't many opportunities to earn points in the class which makes it hard to improve your grade. If you can avoid taking her. Book is only used for midterm and final. The grading system is 92+ is an A, 83+ B.
Dr. Aleiss is very clear with her assignments and helpful to students. Take her because she's one of the better instructors here. The grading curve is mandated by the department not her so you have to work hard no matter who you take. She gives good feedback and is very patient, esp since most students don't pay attention.
Just not good at all. take with someone else if possilble
i think Dr Aleiss is a good teacher and she explains things important to oral communication. i really improved my english because of her. overall, it's not difficult to get a B. most who get Cs don't put as much time into class as they should. beware of students who kick back on your team pull your grade down. choose teammates carefully.
This professor has a lot of good reviews so I was inclined to take her. However I soon realized it was a mistake with her backhanded comments and rude replies making you not even want to go to class. She has very unclear guidelines and is a very tough grader. On track for a B Gave me a c and didn't even post the final exam grades. avoid teacher
this professor was very clear with her requirements although most are set by the department. She graded the final exam and posted grades practically overnight. study hard and attend classes. people who got Cs often didnt not bother to buy the textbook for exams. her feed back was good esp during oral pres. one of the better teachers in IS.
She is a good teacher, any IS 301 class you take is the same thing but she makes is semi fun and doesnt bore you to death with lectures, always doing activities.
I really got a lot out of the oral presentations. she may be picky but wait until you get into the IB classes. I've heard HR is tough and the teachers really can tear into you. she's pretty good with preparation for the other business courses which some of these people need! grading scale hard but not hers. it is the department's.
Really good but super hard Professor if you're not an excellent public speaker. Will pick apart every little detail every time you speak, so be SUPER PREPARED for every presentation. Not a really hard class as long as you at least try on every assignment.
Aleiss helps you become a good public speaker. She'll pick apart every little detail if you're not prepared. She's a tough grader and for some reason doesn't lecture on anything for the midterm or the final. Not many projects but you have to really work hard for the few you have in order to receive a good grade.
I thought she was very helpful for the class material. She does go over the book material in class for the midterm and final exam but not in order of the text. Many of her lectures are based on the book. she's a good choice for feedback on papers and orals.
Super chill prof who's trying her best but has to meet a lot of requirements that are set by the department, so no matter who you take the course with there's a lot of annoying things(grammar tests, 8 point grading curve, etc.) about it. Her lectures are very practical and she moves through things quickly so the class is very engaging.
Her exams and grading scales are made up by the dept. The final was a challenge but she does cover many things from the textbook in class like cover letter, resumes, high and low context cultures, powerpoint, direct messages, etc. Some students didn't even bother to study the book and thought they could breeze thro the final. Big mistake.
Her class goes by fast because she gives the lesson as quick as she can but is also very informative; However, she sometimes has bad memory. I recorded every lecture she gave, but one day, at the beginning of class, she demanded us to turn in an assignment that she never told us was due... She also tries to be clear but she really isnt.
Good class to prepare for Mgmt courses. Her grading scale is the dept's so she has to do what they say. Every assignment that's due is on the syllabus so there are no surprises and you know what's expected. Do the work, easy B.
this class is good for oral and wrtten assignments and training. it goes by fast and group projects are important. read the book and study the grammar for GEM tests. the GEM and 8 point grading scale is set by the dept and not her so you can't avoid it. she's pretty clear and consistent with what she expects.
Terrible professor, has a huge bias in grading presentations, if you arent one of her favorites expect to put in 10x more effort than someone who is bc she gives the people that kiss up to her better grades even if they do poorly. Nothing is learned during class time, final is not based on any class activities, and she is very unclear. AVOID
One of the best. Gives great feedback during presentationss and she goes over basic concepts for the Final in the class. Choose your groups carefully cause a lot of people will do nothing and expect you to do all the work for them. Too bad some of the class was juvenile and made you wonder why there in college.
Terrible professor, some people just aren't good at public speaking and it's not for them. This professor should not be teaching & is brings up very questionable points. Red flags from the first class and continues throughout the semester, hope this school doesn't bring her back.
i was really happy with her feedback on the speeches. she gave points on style and eye content and how we stand. too bad so many people did not stick to the assignment and gave something totally different than what she asked for, follow her instructions and you should learn. the class is good for others that ask for presentations.
Terrible professor. Not because her class is hard, not because there are a lot of assignments, the work is bearable, but because she is the rudest woman and doesnt teach you. Some people cannot speak publicly, its hard. The last thing people want is a professor who shakes her head while you are presenting then crucifies you for stuttering.
I didnt learn anything from this class that i didnt already know. Class is easy professor sucks. Really rude to people who are scared of public speaking. Gives good feedback at times, but mostly just harps on small things to make you feel bad and thinks its funny. Will make annoying gestures during speeches that make people more nervous.
Dont ask her questions she doesnt like to answer them even if she told you to ask a question shell still be rude about it and sarcastic. Pretend to care about her journalism day (youll get brownie points). If youre really scared of public speaking and actually want real help to improve dont take her, she wont teach you only criticize.
her lectures and assignments were helpful. great prof for learning speaking and communication skills. she will point out issues to help you succeed in the business world. I know 'cause I used her advice on presentations at work and boy did I soar! syllabus is mandated by dept so all 301 profs do the same thing.
Some comments she gave on speeches were helpful but most were unnecessary. People say "her comments helped me succeed" although her comments helped me be better, it was not because of her. I had to help myself improve. She'll tell you points of criticism but won't teach you how to fix them. A professor's job is to teach not just watch you struggle.
Class isn't hard, assignments are bearable. She doesn't teach ANYTHING, literally NOTHING. One practice for all 3 GEMs, no exercises in class to improve public speaking (criticizes presentations then expects you to fix it on your own for next one), no lecture for final. "Reviews" for final by showing 2 sample questions and not giving the answers.
Three Main points. Final isn't based on class activities and there is no studyguide/guideline, which would be fine if she actually taught, but she doesn't which made it unclear what the final would be on. Don't expect to learn anything, she doesn't teach anything at all. Lastly, she's always in a bad mood and ready to complain about anything.
Im not a native speaker, I have an accent & its hard to speak in front of people since I cannot pronounce everything. Aleiss always made rude comments about my speaking, but never helped me to improve. She made it the biggest scene when I read from a flashcard with words I had broken down so I could say them right. I was humiliated every speech day
I was worried about this class but overall the lectures were fun and the time passed quickly. Not to much work, lotsa grammar tho. Also a team project. Beware: choose you team members carefully! i saw a team where one of the members did not follow the assignment and everybody lost points. Say something ahead of time and speak up.
all is 301 classes are the same assignment with 3 grammar exams. also presentations and group work. she gave a study guide on BB for the final and even went over a few questions. but she ended up cancelling the final and no body complained!
As a person I do not like this prof. However, she gave us extra credit (10 pts), cancelled our final (to finish speeches bc she was sick, but made her other classes take the final), there is a group presentation and she made us choose a group to soon (I did not know any of my group members or how bad they were at speaking). Not great not terrible.
work load about average, assignments ok. presentations good practice. the syllabus is mostly dept's and not hers, so she tries to make it easy. NO FINAL so I don't get what these reviews were complaining about. you have to chose your team members about mid semester which is much later than other IS 301 sections who picked earlier.
One class didnt take the final but ours did. The whole class was easy except for the final which brought my grade down a whole letter. There were lots of topics that were never discussed. Most of these reviews are from people who didnt take the final which should tell you enough. Theres NO real review. Shes not horrible but not the best, avg
gave plenty of study guide for the final and went over terms and definitions that were on the final. most who did poorly didn't take the exam seriously and didn't study much for it. i did and got an A . good feedback and helpful with presentations. too many grammar exams but that's the depts and not hers. choose you teammates carefully..
Show up, do the work on time, be responsible to your team. No final. Approachable. You have to be motivated to do well and take advantage of the tutoring center which most people don't. Beware of team members who can pull you down 'cause they don't do their part of the work. Speak up up about it.
The class is not an easy A. You have to work hard & do well on all the GEMS + the Textbook Exam + the Team Project. But if you put in the effort, study, and complete all assignments aand follow the professor's instructions, you will get a B. Study her guides for the Final Exam and use the Tutoring Center for the 3 GEMS.
The GEMs and 8 pt grading curve are a pain but are from the IS dept and not her. Pay attention to the study guide for the Final. Be careful of choosing your team 'cause the transfer students do not take the work seriously and expect you to do all the work. Attend class and follow assignments closely. Final hard buy doable.
The first half of class was very laid back. The last half was very busy so make sure you check the weekly schedule of what's due and what's gonna happen in class. She can be mean but she helps a lot. She offers extra credit. Check your email before you go to class since she tends to get sick a lot and cancel class.
In the beginning of the course I thought she was a little rough but it gets better as time goes on. Just make sure you do all the work and show initiative. Get your work checked by her or the tutor to improve your grades is my recommendation. She is fair with grading procedures but don't expect an easy A. You have to do well on the GEM for an A.
Speeches are mandatory. An individual speech and a group presentation at the end of the semester. She was rude while people presented as she let out heavy sighs and kept shaking her head while students presented. It was distracting and discouraging. The class itself wasn't hard, but she made it more difficult than it had to be.
lectures good, feedback on presentations helpful. GEMs, teamwork, oral pres all assigned by dept. choose your team carefully. one of the students did not pay attention to the assignment and deliberately used notes for his team presentation and the whole team was docked because of it. if you have a problem with a team member speak up.
I had so much fun in this class. There was a lot of group & team work to help make the time go by fast. BusComm wasn't hard but the GEM exam (the dept's exam and not hers) was my least favorite thing. Learned alot about presentations that is helpful for HRM classes.
Dr. Aleiss can be kinda rough but overall a great professor. Took her summer session & i do recommend. 2 GEMs (one practice & one graded), a short individual presentation & 1 group presentation. she can be a tough critic but grading is not that harsh, its fair. you DO have to put in the work. she sometimes has a lil attitude but overall solid prof.
Angela is very unorganized. Not clear with any due dates. Everything needs to be submitted in hard copy. Tries to be very professional but misses class frequently. Stacks group projects on top of each other. 3 Oral presentations that require business attire up to par with Brottman Hall Standards (ie. Tailored Suits)
i liked her class because she is much more organized than most profs. we did we did submit a few assignments online. good feedback with oral presentations. worth taking for job interviews.
Ok assignments and teamwork. She is supportive and understanding. I don't know what one rater means by stacks group projects. How else is she suppose to collect the reports? Most professors stack papers and reports in order to carry them!
Angela is a savage sometimes, she's really funny if you understand her humor. She can be very vague on what she wants on her assignments, but she will tell you if you've made a mistake. She gives you everything you need to study for the GEM and after the first GEM, GEM C will be easy. Her class is fun, easy B hard A
Angela is condescending when responding to students' questions and comments. She grades your writing based on her preferences, not whether you're right or wrong. An A is a 92 in this class, so study for the GEM well.
she respoinds well to students questions. i thought the Q&A went very well. she even gave the questions two weeks ahead of time so we could look up the five questions. easy. those who blew it obviously didn't study and held up the class. so study and be reposnsible and it will pay off. An A is 90%, a B is 80% , and a C is 70%.
This class was practically a breeze. Much of the requirements are set by the department and not her. Grading scale is fair. The team reports take up most of your time so choose your members wisely. She'll call on you and you better have the right answer. Believe me, profs in HRM will do the same and will be tougher. So get used to it.
Never had a prof quite like her she would be very rude when responding to students and made the class not want to participate but she was very accommodating to the covid situation by changing the grading scale & allowing us to retake an exam. class is set up by the department, not her, so no matter who your prof is you will have to do the same work
Careful who you choose for your teams. some students were unprepared when she called on them and just took class time stalling and trying to bluff their way through. she gave us the bonus quiz weeks ahead to prepare and these people did not study and held up everyone else. Very selfish of them. Know the material, study, and you'll do fine.
Class work and grading scale is up to the dept chair so thats another complaint, BUT this professor is rude and unprofessional. What makes me mad is the final was NOTHING on which we learned in class. Straight from the book which she didnt speak about either. & bc of the grading scale, the final brought me to a C
Course work is set by the department. She grades your writing on her preferences and is a stickler. There is one big group project. The final is 95% based on the textbook, which is literally never used during the semester, lots of common sense business 101 stuff. There are 3 grammar exams that can be tough. She is pretty easy going during lectures.
Final was based off the book and her lectures. She spent alot of time going over the final in class. Really there's no reason to get lower than a B here. She even posted mock quizzes for us to study for the final exam. Grading scale is dept's and not hers. Handled students well who were not prepared when she called on them, so study the material.
I was in her class and really liked her communication style. This class is good preparation for real world jobs. The actual workload is mandated by the IS dept so it is heavy. Some students did not study at all and they just waste everyone time. That is annoying. In the real world if you don't know your stuff companies will fire you.
DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. The professor is the rudest most condescending professor I have ever met. She does not teach ANYTHING that is on the final exam. She should not have a job. If I could rate 0/5 I would.
This has easily been the worst class of my entire academic career. Professor Aleiss is very condescending towards her students and is flat out rude. I would avoid at all costs. Her grading criteria are cryptic as well. Your grade mainly comes down to if she likes you, and if your submission falls in line with her opinions and views. Again, AVOID.
good class for those going into mgm 425. final based off the book which she covers throughout the semester. she has a final study guide posted from day 1 and terms that you should know. gives good feedback and expects you to be prompt and know your material before class. most people on our team got As and Bs cuz they studied but others did not.
I would DEFINITELY take this professor again. She was VERY generous with bonus points and reviewed for the Final Exam and assigned the book on the first day of class. If your study and do the assignments you should at least get a B. The syllabus is by the department and not her so she follows what everyone else is. Good feedback on orals too.
TAKE THIS CLASS. shes very supportive of students and gives a fair final exam off the book. reviews concepts in class and holds office hours. 2 GEMs, oral, team, final for grade. choose team members wisely. some people are really lazy and will blame their low grades on everyone else but themselves and they will negatively affect your group.
Okay I have never written a review on a professor before but I felt that this was necessary. AVOID THIS WOMAN AT ALL COST. I have never had a more disorganized and just flat out rude professor before. She is extremely unclear about what she wants out of students and an extremely harsh grader. Also if you have an accent she will pick on you a lot.
TAKE THIS CLASS. She is one of the best profs . Grading criteria clear and based upon the departments scale of 92% A, 83% B, etc and everyone uses same scale. Final Exam review and helpful for non-native speakers. No reason to get lower than a B here unless you just don't study and be responsible. Choose team wisely or else some will pull you down.
I have never written a review on a professor before but I felt that this was necessary. TAKE THIS CLASS. I have never had a more organized and just flat out kind professor before. She is extremely clear about what she wants out of students and an extremely fair grader. Also if you have an accent she will help you a lot.
DO. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. The professor is the kindest most pleasant professor I have ever met. She teaches Much on the final exam. She should definitely have this job! If I could rate 6/5 I would.
Professor Aleiss was scatterbrained from the get go. Participation goes based on last name and she wont go to the next person until youve answered her question exactly how she wants. She never mentioned a textbook but the final was based off the textbook. Shes extremely rude and condescending. Avoid her if you want to save yourself GPA.
Professor Aleiss was clear from the get go. Participation goes based on last name and she'll go to the next person when youve answered her question close to how she wants. She mentioned a textbook and the final was based off the textbook. Shes extremely nice and supportive. Take her if you want to earn a good GPA.
She was teaching for only the first half of the semester cuz she was ill. Melissa Sordan or some other sub taught the other half. Textbook was available from Day One online. A review before the final. Assignments were clear. Exams set up by the IS dept and not the prof. If students were unhappy with grades the sub gave the final grade not her.
The poor ratings and name calling that probabily came from the same person. She was fair and reviewed items on the final but she was only there half the semester and her sub did no review. Grading scale was a pain but thats the dept and not her. I learned a lot.
i learned a lot in this class but she was only there for half the semester. She had reviews on BB for the final which isn't too hard if you follow her lectures and study. Most got bs and Cs, a few As. I would take her agin but the grading scale by the dept was tough but not hers.
Tough A easy B. She was gone most of the semester and Marek LeBlanc taught the class not her. All assignments and exams are the same for all IS 301 classes and so is the 8 point grading scale. Final exam posted guide and on line practice quizzes. Orals and 3 GEM exams required. Nice personality while she was here.
I dreaded going to class which was difficult since attendance was mandatory. Although almost everyone in class was smart and capable, she constantly found something to criticize. She never gives positive feedback, only a lot of negative feedback. Take this professor if you don't have a choice or enjoy condescending feedback.
I liked this class and it was a challenge. Attendance mandatory. Almost everyone in class seemed unmotivated but she constantly offered criticizism and advice. She gives positive feedback as well as negative feedback. Take this professor if you have a choice and be prepared to work hard to improve yourself.
Kinda rude. Laughs at wrong answers, won't tell you until you get it right yourself even if it takes half an hour. Will call you out in front of the class. Very picky and tough with grading. An A is 92 or above. Gave an extra credit opportunity. Will question you if you miss a class. A few oral presentations. Study guide was not helpful. Read book
Her feedback is useful and she helps to keep everyone focussed. Supportive with students who at least try. choose teams wisely and pay attention to assignment directions. Oral presentations are good for 400 level classes. The GEMs and grading scale of 92 A, 83 B are the dep't and not hers.
Most rude, negative, and condescending professor I've ever had at CSULB. Work isn't hard, but will nitpick all the things you've done wrong without teaching you how to fix it. She doesn't give any positive feedback, only negative.
gives good feedback and keeps the class moving along. her standards are high and she expects students to be responsible. plenty of interaction in class and fun videos. some are not used to being called out but that's not uncommon in the business school especially in 300 level classes where you're supposed to be a professional.
literally the worst professor yet. laughs then raises her voice after one wrong answer. super nitpicky of everything, seriously hated this class but attendance is mandatory or else you get points deducted. if you dont speak, she deducts points. if ur able to pick a different professor, do it.
this class is very helpful for business majors. i like the professor's support of students and her attention to our writing and oral presentation. just about everything in business is "picky" including any class in accounting. . too bad some students don't see the value of good speech and writing. take her.
Very condescending professor. States that she is "preparing" us for the Business world, however nitpicks every single thing without being mindful of students' external factors. Anal about anything video related, there are two video required assignments. Roasted students based on lighting, tone, external factors such as webcam and noise. Dont take
Good prof to take. video assignments? i don't remember any but she definitely shows videos to help us with assignments. Three GEMs and tough grading scale all assigned by dept. Must Know grammar. Good real world feedback on presentations.
She's rude and condescending. She does a poor job at communicating assignments and deadlines. She'll call people out randomly and get annoyed if they don't know the right answer. Will never admit she's wrong. The class material wasn't difficult, but her teaching made it way more confusing.
Assignments are clear, at least to me. Some of the students don't follow the guidelines and fall behind but much of the team is doing OK. just follow the syllabus and work with your team. three GEMs, Final, teamwork, + presentations. grading scale strict but is dept's.
She has very little patience when it comes to student questions. She is very rude when giving feedback and she hates it when people don't respond to her questions. Her assignments aren't very clear. She is very picky when people give presentations and expects us to be professionals. Her cover letter assignment WAS helpful in getting me a job tho
she expects us to be professional in our presentations and prepares us for the business world. I got a good interview because I took her suggestions. You Have to keep up with assignments and be prepared before class. 3 GEMS just grammar, 2 presentations, and a final required. Most professors in the bus school are tough. Choose teams wisely.
She may be strict but i learned alot from this professor. Her assignments are very useful for the business world and i learned good speaking techniques. The Gems are a pain but you do learn good grammar.
I absolutely did not enjoy this course, the work overall was not to difficult. However the professor was very rude & would get mad if students would ask questions about her lectures. She would respond in rude tones for questions you have. 2 presentations , 3 gem assignments & a final
i absolutely did enjoy this course. i thought the prof was very supportive of students, even those who did not pay attention and did not contribute to our teams project. there's two grammar exams. the final is hard tho study for it.. the grading scale is tough but is not hers it's the dept's.
She is not approachable. She wants people to participate in class but erodes their self-esteem no matter what. Two group projects. Unclear syllabus, unclear directions. Does not give constructive feedback. Did not review GEM material enough. I would not recommend taking this class. DO NOT TAKE.
She is very approachable and encourages people to participate. One group project. Good feedback. GEMs ABC required by all IS 301 and is self paced. I recommend taking this class, if you have a choice cuz it's in high demand..
Professor Aleiss is not approachable. She will put you on the spot if you do not know the answer to her questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I stayed after class for help and really got a lot out of it. the problem is there's a lot a of work in this course but its the same for every section. Three grammar tests, quizzes, rpt, final and presentations. grading scale strict for all IS 301. few As many Bs.. she is very approachable. just don't worry and take whoever.
I am learning a lot in this class. she goes out of her way to help students and encurages us to think. very supportive. careful who you choose for your team cuz some students just do nothing and blame everyone else. team projects, 3 grammar exams and a stiff grading scale (set by dept not her). take whoever you get cuz they're all the same.
this class is required and all is301 classes are the same requirement. she's strict but so many students don't pay attention and then get upset cause they don't like their grade. hard A, work for B. pay attention and participate with your team or they can fire you. availabe for office hours and easily approachable. just be reponsible for your work.
You CAN NOT ask any questions during class, if you email her she responds very rude saying to figure it out on your own.She tells you everything you are doing wrong and never points out what you are doing right. Unprofessional and unorganized. She assigns two group projects at once. The whole class is confused but you cant ask her.Stay away!
She always has to be right. The librarian visited class to go over resources and she kept cutting her off! Interrupting the entire time to correct her.She posted a topic for us to research and Aleiss told her that "environment" was spelt wrong. The word was not spelt wrong, she just felt that she had to be in control and correct something.
I enjoy this class because she is careful and helps us. Odd review below because no one corrected the librarian but the person does not know how to spell ("spelt"). Three GEMs, team project, but all IS 301 are same. Grading scale strict but the same for all. Doesn't matter who you get because the dept changes sections all the time. Focus on yr work
three grammar exams, two presentations and a final. class has a strcit grading scale and you have to keep up with the heavy workload but its same for all is 301 classes. it really doesnt matter who you get cause you have to take the class and the schedule changes the professor before classes even start. teamwork important for grade.
Professor Aleiss make the Information Systems Department look terrible. Unprofessional, rude, and very condescending toward students. Her feedback - in-person and written - discourages students, and her tone/attitude can be very patronizing. I am convinced she (or someone under her wing) writes one shining review for every poor review she receives.
show up, do the work, and contribute to teams. her feedback is helpful because I got an interview because of my cover letter. Some students dont like her criticsm but its useful. Grammar tests and grading scales are a pain but not hers. any IS 301 prof is OK for this course tho.
This teacher would yell at you if a group member has not showed up to class. Her feedback is essentially her yelling at you. Guess all the is301 teachers here suck, good luck.
Professor Aleiss is incredibly rude. It's difficult to ask her a question knowing she likes to belittle students. She's a tough grader and not very helpful. She has moments where she'll be a little understanding but it's rare. I would not recommend taking this class.
Do not take IS 301 with this professor - she's unhelpful, rude, and provides no insight on how to be successful within her course. Worst. Class. Ever.
Avoid taking this professor, Very Rude and discouraging, she gets mad at you if you ask a question, her grading is very difficult. Group presentations, if you have bad team mates like i did goodluck passing your grade is depending on how they do as well. Just managed to get a B. The gems are not difficult but they are way too short on time.
This course has a lot of work and teams are much of your grade. all IS 301 sections have the same heavy grading criteria and are tough and have three large grammar exams. she got our team rescued when a few quit at the end. So choose your teams wisely. She is clear and supports you if you need it. Bonus points gave me a higher grade.
firstly, all good reviews are by this professor. they are all written the same, just look. This professor is the most condescending prof ever. feedback is mean and not in any way constructive. she is also EXTREMELY tone deaf. she actively talked smack about students to other students. basically impossible to get an A and she prides herself on that.
lots of work and grammar test that's required by the dep't. 2 speeches and a group project. you have to focus and pay attention to assignment instructions. helpful feedback but too much material to cover for one class.
she is very condescending and makes you contemplate your choice on taking her. she was essentially yelling at students for asking simple questions and would belittle someone during a presentation with no hesitation.
the couse is a lot of work but so are all is301 classes. most of the syllabus is not hers but from the chair and dept. the best assignment was the cover letter. 3 presentations and 3 grammar tests plus final and report. good feedback on presentations and group projects but choose your team wisely b/c some don't contribute and then your stuck.
This class was very helpful for people going on for their MBA. I did not know how important business communication was and I this course really helped me to prepare for the corporate world. Group projects and lots of writing required. Oral presentations crucial for class and real world.
from what I understand, most all IS 301 classes have the same requirements. The grammar test weighs a lot but you'll learn how to punctuate and create good, strong sentences. 3 papers, final, and oral presentations. choose your team wisely b/c if you have a weak member they will pull your down. This course is good prep for real world tho.
