I took her for BIOL 112 . She is a great lecturer and super funny. Everything that you need to know for her exams are on the powerpoints. Gives out LC extra credit so go to class! It was her first year of teaching, so she's just figuring it out, but overall one of my favorite profs at A&M.
Super awsome prof, and super funny and chill. her tests are kind of a pain but they are doable if you study hard. She's a true bro when it comes to extra credit. The lab for this class is what really sucks tbh so get ready for that.
Dr. Hawkins is fantastic! She really emphasizes biology in terms of application, and and provides lots of examples to apply the concepts she lectures over. She strives to make learning fun, and is really approachable for literally anything you may need. She truly cares about her students, and even though this was her first semester, she excelled!
Dr Hawkins is the best. She offers a ton of extra credit and is incredibly kind. She really cares about her students and their success in the class. GO TO CLASS- she doesn't test on anything that isn't discussed in class. She makes her powerpoints easy to understand and super entertaining. Lab sucks but lecture can save your grade.
Dr. Hawkins is the best teacher to choose for BIO 112. She cares a lot about her students and emphasizes what is the big take away in her lectures. Her tests are slide heavy but she gives you a short excellent exam review. She tells you what will be on the test and take her word for it!!! She is very funny and has excellent teaching skills
Dr. Hawkins is a very energetic professor. She only tests over material that has been covered in class via power points. However, she adds additional information that can appear on tests. She posts the power points for viewing outside of class. She generally tells very good anecdotes to explain material and is very excited to teach her students.
This semester was her first semester teaching, and she is amazing! BIOL 112 is a difficult course regardless, but she made it so much fun to go to class. The lab is absolutely awful, no matter who your TA is, so be ready for that. Overall, Dr. Hawkins is a bro and I would take more classes from her if I could.
i love her. take her class.
She is so funny and sweet, her lectures are phenomenal and beyond that, she is so down to earth. I wish I could take her again.
She's HANDS DOWN the most amazing professor I've ever had. She cares SO deeply about her students, and wants all of us to do well. Genuinely. She gave us loads of extra credit. Her lectures are freaking hilarious. It still wasn't the easiest class, but she did everything she could to make it better for us. Please take her.
She is the best prof I've ever taken. She is funny in lecture and had lots of real world examples of biology. She understands the student struggle well and does her best to make this class better for you. Grades fast, answers emails quickly, has LC as extra credit. I literally can't think of a single bad thing thing to say about her. Take Hawkins.
Angela made Biology so interesting, and I genuinely enjoyed going to her class. She gives so much extra credit, but you have to go to class to get it. Her exams are straight forward and she works closely with your SI leaders. Her exams consist of lecture slides, LC questions, and Problem Set questions. Go to SI exam reviews and you'll be golden!
Definately recommend this prof for bio 112!!! She has to be the best prof for this subject! Very caring and understanding!
She is an amazing prof!! She applied almost every bio concept to medicine and really enjoyed teaching. She is very understanding and gives good extra credit. I had her for her first semester teaching, and she definitely did better than any other prof I had that semester.
Great prof overall, one of the best bio teachers from any science class Ive taken. Shes super passionate about the topic and grades with the usual exams and problem sets. She posts her slides online, but exams are heavily lecture based. Shes very open and offered extra credit through LC. Only reason for not getting an A was lab quiz difficulty.
Great professor, really funny and genuinely interested in biology. It's a difficult class, mainly because of the lab and the memorization requirement. The tests are mainly based on problem sets that you get multiple attempts on and her lectures, which she posts online. I didn't even look at the textbook, slides had it covered,Would highly recommend
I really enjoyed her as a professor, but biology is hard. I did not do well in this class because biology is hard and her being so new. It was hard to study for her exams because we did not know how she would test us. She is really nice and easy to talk to, the class itself is hard.
Dr Hawkins was so awesome! This is the first review and probably last Ill do I just think Dr Hawkins deserves it. She is everything you want in a professor! Fast on emails, extra credit, post notes, fast grader! She even offered her self to write me a letter of recommendation! Loves to talk football and really cares about her students.
Hands down the best professor at Texas A&M. She made me love biology again. I would take 112 every semester of my life again with her if I could.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Hawkins! Her class is on the easier side compared to other bio profs. She radiates fun-mom energy and cares about all of her students. Go to class because she keeps it pretty interesting and offers in-class extra credit. Aplus tutoring is very helpful as a supplement. 10/10
DR Hawkins will truly make you love Biology again if you had a rough experience in the past. She cares SO much about her students and she is absolutely hilarious! She gives good mom vibes and love plants and cats. She gives extra credit for attending class! Bio 112 LAB is nearly impossible to do well in, but her lectures definitely make up for it.
I adore Professor Hawkins, she is so sweet and funny and actually makes going to lecture enjoyable. She truly cares about her students!!! I am not good at biology and still pass the tests, the way she explains the material is very clear and she gives extra credit for going to class! I love her and wish I could take another class with her!
Truly adore Hawkins. She is passionate and intelligent about the material, and is willing to help her students at any time. As long as you review the PPTs, you should be good for the exams. Lab is truly rigorous, but it is doable. Go to class from time to time for LC credit and laughs. You don't need A+ if you attend the FREE SI reviews. Take her!
She is literally the best Bio prof that there is. She cares about her students, is super easy to reach, and gives you your test grade back like the next day. She also gives you tips on how to study for her test and never tries to trick you on the questions. I 10/10 recommend her to any one.
Her tests are representative of her lectures, she tells you exactly what she wants you to study, and she's funny while also presenting the material in a way that's easy to understand. She also gives 30+ extra credit points at some point during lecture. She knows lab is a struggle and does her best to reassure everyone and help out as best she can.
Dr. Hawkins is hilarious in lecture and keeps you engaged in class. Her exams are based off her powerpoints. She tailors her lectures to what her students are going in to (normally the medical field). She does extra credit in class, so be prepared to show up to lecture. I would take her again if I could!
Dr. Hawkins is one of my favorite professors at A&M. She is incredibly passionate about the topic of Biology & Plants and she makes every lecture interesting. She is hilarious and nice too.
Dr. Hawkins is definitely the best BIOL112 teacher at A&M. This is a HARD class but Dr. Hawkins gives pretty easy tests in addition to 30 extra credit points.
Dr. Hawkins is the best 112 professor!! She makes her lectures super easy to listen to, so you don't ever want to skip--and she offers easy extra credit when you do go to class. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. Her SI gives really good help on how to do well on the tests. Take Hawkins!!!
Dr. Hawkins is a great prof. I literally slept thru my whole entire bio 111 class but in Dr. Hawkins she made the class very fun and shows a lot care for her students. She gives 30 pts for LC. Overall she made her lecture every enjoyable and if you attend classes, go to her office hours the you'll do good on the exams since its straight forward.
Dr. Hawkins is phenomenal. Her lectures are so fun to listen to, and she makes the material genuinely interesting. This class is very difficult, especially when you factor in the lab. However, Dr. Hawkins does everything she can to help you along the way. Always attend lecture; her tests are heavily based on what she says and she gives extra credit
Dr. Hawkins is hilarious & genuinely enjoys teaching. Her lectures are awesome, & if you go to SI youre 100% set for her exams. Pay attention to problem set questions because those always show up on exams. Shes super understanding & very helpful. Definitely recommend!!
Dr. Hawkins was one of my favorite professors. She was absolutely hilarious & really cares for her students. I highly recommend on going to class and listening carefully. She does include some detailed questions on exams that are in her lectures. She includes 30 extra LC points which can help you so GO TO CLASS. Overall, would definitely take her!!
Everything went well for this class & I would be writing a nice review, BUT... the final exam was NOTHING like her first 3 exams she gave. Yes if you go to SI, you are set. EXCEPT for the final. I know multiple people that were destroyed by the final. Also, she states there will be a curve, but WOW a 90 to an 89. what curve? Highly DO NOT recommend
Hawkins is by far the best prof I've had at A&M. She gives 30 LC extra credit points if you just attend class which helps balance out the lab. Her lectures are enjoyable and understandable. She makes the material relevant for students pursuing a medical career. She includes a lot of questions from LC and the problem sets on her exams. Easy A.
Emphasizes what you need to know and what you dont need to know
Best prof for bio. Makes subject easy and tests are a blowoff if you learn the material on her slides and watch required videos. LC and problem sets are helpful for test and boost ur grade. Lab is nice and TA Ben Alexander made it interesting. Free 30 points for LC. Overall she is very caring and considerate. Def recommend. Lab not too hard tbh.
This professor is awesome works with students do the homework and you will get the grade you deserve.
Hawkins was an amazing professor and was always clear and specific about what we needed to know. The lab is defintely the most difficult part but her exams come straight from the power points. She is very passionate about what she is teaching and does her best to make the class interesting for everyone. She is also SUPER funny and laid back.
Amazing class really funny and helpful.
I loved her. She's hilarious, she cares, and she makes the subject seem interesting even when it's kinda dull. Her lectures are interesting even when you're just talking about DNA and codons. She also shows a lot of interesting videos. Do yourself a favor and take her!
Great professor. I'd take her again for 112, but she is surface level, no depth to what she talks about. I'm worried I'm not prepared for another prof. This class is an EASYYYYY A. Take her if you can. And ask her if owls are real.
By far, she is one of my favorite professors so far. She is funny and truly cares about her students and takes mind of the other classes and stress we might be under. She gives plenty extra credit to help you out and her test are general for the majority with some specifics. Her powerpoint contain pretty much all the information for the tests.
If you get the chance, TAKE this woman. The best prof I have ever had at Texas A&M.
TAKE HER!! One of the best profs I've had. Lectures are engaging and she makes them fun. She'll take random attendance through practice exam questions, but attendance for extra credit not a grade. Very clear about expectations, and genuinely cares for student success. The material is somewhat difficult, but she makes it easy to do well.
Take Hawkins!!! She makes lecture interesting because she is so funny! You can tell she loves what she teaches, and is really understanding! Attendance is not mandatory, however she does give out extra credit on some days! I would take her again in a heartbeat!
She's without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. She's incredibly caring and just wants to share her knowledge of biology with her students. She rarely shows up on time, and often dismisses class early, but she makes class incredibly easy to understand. Her tests are incredibly easy if you go to class and listen to her examples and stories.
Hawkins made biology more clear, and more interesting than both of my high school teachers. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go as she gives extra credit on random days. Her lectures are never boring and is so understanding of students, even letting us out early on days she knows we have a lot of exams. You don't even need to read the book
do yourself a favor and take this angel
She's probably the best Bio prof at TAMU, based on the other profs' ratings that I've seen, and rightfully so. She's real chill and she enjoys what she does. The homework, tests, and lab weren't too difficult. Honestly, if I could take her for 112 I would in a heartbeat. You could easily get a B with very little effort. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER!
one of the easier professors, but she's not that interesting.
Hawkins is amazing!!!! if you study you can make an A in the class. go to class to get the extra 30 LC points. tests are usually over her powerpoints and sometimes the problem sets. her lectures are super fun! she includes videos which helps to break up all the information. TAKE HAWKINS
Dr. Hawkins is a good professor but it is hard to rate her because she has A LOT of material to cover, therefore she doesn't elaborate much. Her exams are very difficult if you have not taken bio in a while. She's understanding and wants to help. There are a lot of homework assignments that can boost your grade but the exams made my grade low.
Hawkins is an amazing Professor and shes extremely hilarious. She gave us 3 tests and a final. Id say to study all of the lecture that you can, but shes the best science prof you can get. Shes super funny and actually makes the material interesting. Take her if you can.
I love this teacher so much. She is so funny and you can really tell she cares a lot about her students and biology as a whole. She does LC points randomly so go to class even though she posts her powerpoints. I highly recommend taking her!
Hawkins loves biology; it shows. Great lecturer: animated, funny. She is patient and understanding, open to being lenient on grades if you talk to her. Seems to care about students' academic success and overall well-being. Highly recommend.
Great Professor; plays fair on tests.
Did not like the way this proff formatted exams
Honestly thought I would end with a B for my final grade, but instead I ended up with a C... she is inconsiderate when it comes to final grades because she believes it serves you a lesson. She's funny during lecture, but skips most of the material for exam content. Do not take!!!
Fun fact, she dropped out of college, worked in a movie theater, and then went back to college! With the way she grades, she wants us to follow the same pathway! Love that!
Hawkins is an awesome prof, she cares about the lectures and information
She made biology so much more interesting and I literally looked forward to going to her class. Because she made it so entertaining, it was easy to just show up and get LC extra credit. She usually pushes back deadlines when she knows the students are struggling and the exams are literally what she covers in lecture.
Dr Hawkins was an amazing Prof. Definitely recommend going to her lectures as you can earn extra credit for attending, material will be on the exam and she keeps every lecture interesting. Study her powerpoints and you'll do fine on the tests.
In my opinion, Dr. Hawkins is the only biology teacher to take at A&M. She makes it clear that she cares deeply about the student. Her presentations are funny, and she shows beneficial videos in class that make the concepts easier to grasp. She gives a generous amount of extra credit, and her test has fair questions.
Angela Hawkins is an angel on earth!!! BEST prof I've ever had & I've had some great profs. Above everything else, she was just so understanding and gave everyone a chance to do extremely well in this class. Tests were 500% fair and not tricky at all. Hilarious and truly cares about her students. Truly an easy A if you study the ppts & go to class!
Hawkins has been my favorite prof this semester. She definitely adds questions to test that is from what she not from the powerpoint. The 30 point from LC is super helpful so go to every single class. Tests are really easy as long as you go through her powerpoints. Super caring for her students and is very relatable. Such a fun class.
I loved this professor. She is so funny, she clearly cares about what she does and the people she teaches. She tries to make the class as beneficial as she can, with extra credit, concise lectures, and great organization of powerpoints online. I also learned a lot in the class, it is definitely worth taking and wasn't too hard.
Dr. Hawkins is an EASY professor. Tests were almost exact copies of the slides she gives us, as long as you show up to the classes when she does LC (extra credit) and study the slides for the tests, you'll get an A. She's also a super nice and funny prof.
She's not like the rest of the Bio professors. I suck at it and managed to get a B without trying. Most people I know mentioned how she's the best adn they're getting an A because of her specifically.
Dr. Hawkins is really nice and as long as you study the powerpoints, you'll easily get an A on the tests. Labs are fine and weekly quizzes on ecampus are super easy.
Tests are conceptual and require a bit of analysis, but overall straightforward
There are literally too many nice things to say about Dr. Hawkins. If you want a good lecturer that is fair and has tests that are closely related to the material take her. Seriously.
I was super scared to take BIOL111, but Dr. Hawkins made it a very general introduction to biology. You do need to study pretty hard for her exams, but the questions are straightforward. She plays a lot of videos and shows pictures of her cats lol. Definitely suggest taking Hawkins for BIOL!!!!
Dr. Hawkins is one of the best professors I've had. She is very caring about her students and great at keeping her lectures interesting. She likes to emphasize this is only an intro level course so it's very basic and easy to get an A in. She's an 11/10 and would highly recommend.
Dr. Hawkin's is the best professor I've had at my time at TAMU. She's really funny and likes to incorporate videos into her lectures which is helpful for a visual learner like me. It can sometimes get kinda confusing because it is not an easy course but she is super accessible and SI session are really helpful. She cares about her students.
Hawkins is a solid choice for an intro bio class. She's super nice and passionate and never makes you feel unwelcome or lost. Lectures aren't bad either as she's really interesting and clear with the content. Always available outside of class. She posts exam outlines on what to focus on that are really helpful. Don't slack off. Definitely recommend
Really good prof. While attendance is not mandatory, if you go to class & pay attention, youll do really well without trying. Weekly homework but you get 3 attempts. 4 tests that werent very difficult. Cares a lot about biology and her students. Lab wasnt exactly hard but very boring.
Do yourself a favor and take Dr. Hawkins!!!
If you have to take bio111 I 10/10 recommend her! Her lectures are sometimes really long but she keeps you awake with her funny commentary, videos, cute cate, and relations to online trends. She was one of my only STEM profs that really cared and lent out a hand to us during the transition to the online format! (A testament to her great character!)
LCs help, so it benefits to attend class. Homework grades can boost your grade, so I set a reminder to do the homework each week. Staying organized by starting the exam outline review at least 3 days before the test is helpful. It was easiest to print the lecture power points (3 slides per page) and take any additional notes/highlight in lecture.
If you need to take bio 111 do yourself a favor and take Hawkins! She is one of the nicest profs I have ever had. She cares about lecture material and students doing well in her class but most importantly she's truly cares about each of her students. Study her slides and you should make an easy A, textbook is a good study tool!
I had her for the spring semester and she was so understanding and nice! You can tell Dr. Hawkins cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches. She gives 30 extra credit LC points which really helps peoples averages. I loved this class!
Dr. Hawkins is a great biology professor. She is confident in the material and is fun to listen to in lectures. She bases the tests off of the lecture and notes and gives extra credit if you come to class. She loves her job (and her cats) and I would definitely take her again!
Dr. Hawkins is by far one of the best professors I've ever had and I would take her again in a heartbeat. She truly wants her students to succeed. Gives 30 extra credit points just for attending lectures. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches and makes class fun and engaging.
Professor Hawkins is a hilarious and very engaging lecturer. Extra credit is very generous as long as you attend class. If you understand the information on her power points, you will do well on the tests.
Professor Hawkins was very clear in her expectations of the class and provideds all the information needed to do well. Attending lectures is important as she'll put specific information from lectures on the exams, but with careful attention and decent studying it's a pretty fair class. She's also very personable and provides funny examples in class
Professor Hawkins, only 2 weeks into the semester, has shown that caring for your students gets them a long way. She is incredibly straight forward, while keeping things interesting during lecture. She also offers 30 bonus points just for showing up to class! Loving it so far!
I loved Dr. Hawkins. She's hilarious and made my 8am biology class enjoyable. The tests aren't too challenging, just study her lecture slides and listen to what she says in the lectures. I wish I could've taken her for BIOL 112 :/ Also, be sure to go to lectures because extra credit points are given for participation.
Dr. Hawkins is a fantastic professor, but as a non-STEM major, I found this class to be exceptionally difficult. I would of course recommend her to anyone who wants to take BIOL 111, but keep in mind that this class is no walk in the park for students expecting an easy science credit.
I personally hate science, however Hawkins made this class so much better. Her exams are pretty straight from the lectures, just pay attention to the details. No science class will be easy, but I will say that Hawkins makes it the easiest. Do the LC and it is pretty easy to get 100 on problem sets and lab quizzes.
Dr. Hawkins is really passionate about what she teaches. She's a great lecturer and she really wants students to understand the material.
WOW! I wish she taught biology 112. Her lectures were very entertaining and she is just all around the best prof ever. It made me sad finishing out last lecture. She gives a ton of extra credit (30 points) and her tests are based off of her lecture not the book (which is also free). Take notes on the powerpoint and enjoy this class! ITS THE BEST!!!
Dr. Hawkins is a fantastic professor, but I want to warn people preparing to take her class online (due to COVID) about the labs. Because we cannot be there in person, the labs are completely virtual which makes them insanely difficult. Otherwise, great class!
Professor Hawkins is the best! 3 tests, weekly problem sets, and a final! Offers EC through LC. Just an all around great woman and great professor! TAKE HER!
30 LC points come in clutch, but you gotta actually show up to class. You don't need to read the textbook, her slides are more than enough. Very easy and solid choice for 112. The lab is a bit rough to do online, but not impossible
Before the exams, to maximize your grade, I would memorize every single Q&A to the problem sets and LC questions relating to that exam. The class wasn't super hard, but by no means am I suggesting you don't study hard for the exams. I didn't do well with Dr. Hawkins teaching style, but she's still really cool.
Dr. Hawkins was one of the best profs I've had at Texas A&M so far. You can tell she really cares about her students. She has great lectures and includes a ton of interesting / relatable examples (and a few memes). The exams can be hard; make sure you study the problem sets. You can get extra credit for going to class which is awesome!
Attendance was not mandatory, but extra credit points were available for those who attended. Her tests were very fair and she uploads outlines before each test. She kept me engaged throughout the whole lecture, despite the online format. Online labs can be rough, but that all depends on the TA. Take Hawkins if you can because she is AMAZING!!!!
TAKE HAWKINS! Her lectures are great and she does well to prepare you for tests! The tests can be very doable if you go to class/complete the problem sets/review the chapter outlines she provides. Lab for this class can be tricky, but TAs are good at answering questions/grade fairly. Hawkins cares about her students!
Dr. Hawkins is truly amazing. She is super funny and a great prof. When she presents topics she doesn't just read off the powerpoints, but explains the material further and answers everyone's questions. She also gives 30 extra credit points which are so helpful. I wish she was doing 112. You'll have to study hard, but highly recommend Dr. Hawkins.
If you can, TAKE Dr. Hawkins!!! She is the BEST prof and her lectures go by SO FAST. She makes sure to teach beyond the textbook by applying real-world examples. Make sure before each exam to review the PowerPoint Lectures (don't forget about the pictures), LCs (up to 30 extra bonus points), and Problem Sets (weekly homework).
Seriously the BEST professor I've ever had. Took her in the fall completely online. Exams were easy, got an A on all of them. Just look through problem sets and her extra credit questions that she asks in class. Hilarious and informative lectures. Clear on what she wants you to know. TAKE HER!
BIOL 111 during Fall Semester. Prof H creates very detailed power points for lectures that are extremely helpful for exams. Extra credit is offered. Problem sets allow multiple attempts and are useful for benchmarks and reviews. The lab portion is separate but also assisted through power points. Do the work assigned to be successful in this course!
Professor Hawkins was AMAZING! Her lectures were really engaging, and she made it easy to learn. If you pay attention in lectures, and do all the HW youll pass. Shes very understanding, and really helps you out.
One of the best profs Ive had so far. Go to class because gives extra credit often if you go. Gives chapter outlines for tests so easy to study. She is good at making harder concepts easy to remember with analogies.
Dr. Hawkins is a very sweet person. She engages with her students and makes the class very comfortable. Sometimes the material can get overwhelming, so go to the SI sessions, they are VERY helpful. Dr. Hawkins also has a lot of cats, so if you like cats she's the professor for you :)
I really don't like biology, so personally I often got frustrated with the course itself. Dr. Hawkins is a very nice lady however, and teaches the material well. I wish her study guides were a little more specific. Even when I did them, the tests were a struggle. However, I think that's the only downside and I would recommend her.
I don't know how else to say it aside from just take her. She is the nicest human being and she is so funny. She makes bio so fun and is super easy to talk to. The class is not bad, just make sure to keep up with the work. If you study hard you'll do fine. GO TO SI SESSIONS. I waited until the end of the sem. to go and they are suuuper helpful.
She's a wonderful professor. Not only is she super passionate about what she teaches (which makes the class very engaging and interesting) but she's also very understanding in terms of personal matters and grades. I would 100% love to take her for any future classes I can.
Biology is hard for me because its mostly memory based, but Dr. Hawkins made it easier for me to retain information! Shes really helpful and is really good at answering and engaging in students questions. She also has the cutest cats!!
Dr. Hawkins is caring, nice, and funny! She is very understanding and passionate about biology. The class is easy overall. Exams are based mostly on lectures so go to class and you'll be good.
Professor Hawkins is definitely one of the best professors here at TAMU. I hate science but this course with her was great. She made things very clear and go to SI. SI really helps prepare for the exams. Take her for Biology 111!!
TONS of extra credit. I barely went to class, just reviewed the lectures she posted and got an A. Lab is also really easy just time consuming. She's really nice and cares about students. Overall, it's a lot of studying but doable if you study ahead. If you ever took AP Bio this class will be a breeze
Hawkins was a good Bio professor, and although I did not pay attention most of the time, I made an A in the class because of the extra credit - which is given by showing up to class!! Lectures actually taught me some things, and if you get a good lab TA, you'll be good. Take her!
Hawkins is really passionate about biology and wants everyone to do the best they absolutely can. There is truly no better BIO 111 prof at TAMU. TAKE HER. Bio is no fun but she makes it tolerable and easy to follow. She uploads her slides and pulls questions straight from them. Great, great professor.
Take Dr. Hawkins!! Do it! Best choice I've ever made! Email her cat photos for an immediate friendship. The best way to study for these exams is to make quizlets
There's a LOT of work in this class. It's manageable but definitely not fun. Labs are easy and there's a TON of extra credit in this class. One thing I didn't like was that problem sets often included a bunch of material we hadn't gone over yet. However, you get multiple attempts.
It is impossible to recommend Hawkins too much. She is my favorite professor I have had and makes biology such a fun and interesting class. She is funny and personable and comes up with the best examples to explain complicated topics. The hardest part of the class was the lab exams, but as long as you pay good attention in lab you'll do fine.
Prof Hawkins is by far the best professor I had at tamu! She is so very sweet and comes to class with a smile on her face everyday ready to teach us! Her powerpoints are detailed and her tests are fair. Make sure to go to class for extra credit opportunities! Take her and you won't regret it! You will love her class (and her cats!).
Hawkins is such a fun professor, she jokes around in class and makes learning fun. This class also includes a lab and that is taught by a TA which can make a huge difference depending on who you get. You will have lab exams and lecture exams both of which aren't to bad if you take notes and study. There's also problem sets for homework, do them!
I had Dr. Hawkins Summer 2020 and she was an amazing professor. Very caring and loved to make her lectures very relatable. She often related things to her cats which made it so much easier to remember things. 10/10 would recommend taking her if you get a chance. She takes a difficult class and makes it a little less stressful.
Hawkins is a real gem and I highly recommend taking her class. She makes the lectures interesting to listen to, it's not a time-consuming class, and extra credit is offered. You have weekly quizzes, lab homework, and four exams. The last exam is a "final" but it focuses more on the newest material. Seriously... take Hawkins if you can :)
Dr. Hawkins loves plants and cats. She is very engaging in class lecture and does a great job at reclarifying powerpoint material to explain in different ways so that you can better understand concepts. SI sessions are good and helpful to teach in different ways.
Dr. Hawkins is an amazing Biology prof. Her exams compared to other professors are easier in my opinion. Her jokes are actually funny, even on exams. Had this class at 8 a.m. but did not dread going because of her amazing personality. There are a decent amount of assignments given, but they end up helping your grade out anyways.
She is the sweetest! Lectures are very in depth but she explains them so well. Practice exams help so much for exams and are very similar. She gives lots of extra credit as well! Wish I could take her for all my biologys!
Professor Hawkins made this class super stress free and enjoyable. Doesn't get much better than her, she is enthusiastic about teaching and offers a lot of extra credit and practice for the test. No reason why one shouldn't get an A in this class as long as you try a decent amount.
Dr. Hawkins makes lectures super engaging by always providing real-world examples, memes, and ways to remember information. Extra credit is also offered as an incentive to come to class and literally that's all you have to do for the extra credit after purchase. Show up. Hawkins is also super hilarious making class enjoyable even at 8 am!
I love and recommend Dr. Hawkins to every person Ive met. She is very relatable and funny. Our grades were problem sets due every week and 3 tests plus the final. Final was 2 hours for 60 questions.
Take Hawkins! She can teach the material very well, make it easier to understand, and she is funny. Tests are difficult. SI sessions are the key to getting an A because she does not do a test review in class or post one. She gives lots of extra credit, but you have to be in class to receive it. Labs are easy and definitely help boost the grade.
Dr. Hawkins makes it easy to understand the material... until it comes to the exams. The exams are difficult even if you understand the material. She loves cats so get ready for lots of cute cat pictures in the power points. I suggest finding a buddy for this class and studying together.
Dr. Hawkins is the best biology teacher to take for 111. While the class itself is pretty difficult, she makes it easy to understand and possible to do well in. There's 34.5 points of extra credit given at different times for showing up to class. 4 tests, 10 labs, weekly pre labs/post labs/problem sets for homework. Definitely recommend Hawkins.
I am not a big fan of biology and dreaded taking this class, but other than lab it wasn't that bad. There's a bunch of extra credit to pad your grade if you do bad on any assignments and the SI sessions and practice exams help a lot. Dr. Hawkins is really cool and made this class more bearable. You do have to put the work in to get the grade
THE BEST PROF EVER.
Can not emphasize how great Hawkins is. One of my favorite profs ever taken. She makes everything so clear, is super accessible outside of class, and is so funny. Textbook is free and online, but I never used it. 30 LC bonus points. She reuses exam questions from practice exams.
Hawkins is awesome! She gives many ways to succeed and really cares about your success and retention of the material. Gives E.C. in class, so show up! An A is doable if you put in the work and do what's expected of you. Would recommend!
I absolutely loved having Professor Hawkins for Biology 111. If you take good notes from her PowerPoint and study for the exams you will have no problem getting an A. She offers a total of 30 extra credit points that you will get if you come to class. TAKE HER!
Prof. Hawkins is a great teacher. Class work is not too heavy, a lot of notes. Make sure to attend lecture for extra credit. Tests are solely based off of notes.
Greatest professor ever. Study all resources you have because there's a LOT of material. Listen in class because she has extra points
Dr. Hawkins is the best prof at A&M. Her lectures are engaging and she makes the subject interesting to learn. Her tests are the same as practices tests and problem sets are open note. Her slides are easy to understand and don't overwhelm you with information. She offers about 5 points of extra credit if you just show up to the lectures.
I love Dr. Hawkins! She genuinely cares about her students and biology. Listen to her lectures because she will give examples that will help you remember things. I can't say enough good stuff about her!
Dr. Hawkins is great! Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives extra credit, so go! I would 100% take her again
It is as easy as a Biology class can be at a University. Dr. Hawkins keeps us engaged and there's many opportunities to raise your grade! Weekly quizzes that are easy and 3 exams + a final. Definitely study! Don't wait till last minute.
Dr. Hawkins is an amazing professor and you definitely should take her class if you can get a spot! Her lectures are super good and you will actually learn a lot. She cares that her students learn and has clear expectations for tests. Gives test hints in class. Lots of grade raising opportunities and random extra credit in class so attend lecture!!
Even if you are not a biology person, she will make this class SO fun for you. She is caring and literally could be a stand up comedian. Easy to listen & pay attention to for 75 minutes. I highly suggest her class. You will need to study for exams, but if you do and really pay attention in class, you will do very well.
Dr. Hawkins is an excellent professor in that she keeps you engaged during lecture, and offers plenty of resources for keeping your grade up including extra credit and easy weekly quizzes. Slides are easy to understand and study. Attend lecture, study a bit before each exam, and it's an easy A. Highly recommend, you won't regret it.
Professor Hawkins has a great personality and is a great professor. However, there is much material and it is hard but she does her best to cover to cover it all as quick as possible. Her tests are hard but are manageable with studying. Her practice exams and weekly problem sets are very similar if not the same questions as her exams.
Take Dr. Hawkins if you can! She makes references to her cats in several lectures so look forward to that! Sometimes the lectures are a bit boring, but she tries to make it interesting. Go to class because the extra credit points will save you from stressing so much. I cannot recommend her enough!
Dr. Hawkins is byfar the best choice for Biol 111! She breaks down difficult conepts using real-world analogies! She has interesting lectures and is very approachable. Go to class since you get 30 extra credit points from this! Her tests are very similar to her problem sets and practice exams, so those are the best resources for studying!
Dr. Hawkins is the best professor that I have had at A&M so far. She does an amazing job of keeping students engaged in her material. Furthermore, her extra credit opportunity really helps you out. Her exams do require a bit of studying though. Overall, she is not only a great professor, but she is also an amazing person as well.
Prof. Hawkins was amazing! Her class was always fun and she has the class laughing 24/7 due to her amazing jokes! Participation is a really big deal and you can gain tons of "extra credit" points by doing it. Her material can be challenging just because she moves through chapter pretty quickly so I do not recommend skipping her class.
I loved her! She was AMAZING!!!
Solid prof. Very caring and understanding as well. Took 5 week accelerated course and never felt rushed. Show up to class, pay attention, take notes, review the powerpoints a few days before the test, and you'll be fine. Extra credit points can add almost 5 points to your total grade so show up to class. Lab is ok, few labs worked for my section.
Even at a faster pace over the summer, Dr. Hawkins was very clear about what was expected and her tests were really straight forward. Make sure to get the LC (in-class extra credit)! The extra 30 points really boost your grade. Study the problem sets and your notes before the test and you'll be good.
Professor Hawkins was amazing. She was so passionate about her class and super helpful when it came to questions. She was always available after class and never made you feel stupid about questions. She is hands down the most caring professor I've had and I recommend her to anyone taking BIO 111. Exams were moderately tough but extra credit helped.
I loved Dr. Hawkins for Bio 111! She's super organized with her lectures, doesn't rush material, and explains difficult concepts really well. Definitely study the lecture presentations and problem set questions to get an idea of what tests will be like. I highly recommend her!
Awesome prof, lectures were very clear and tests were not overly difficult but also reflected the difficulty of the class. She is fun, actually cares and wants all her students to succeed. Use the resources she gives you and you will do well.
Taker her! Although it felt like the material itself was repetitive she is super enthusiastic and makes sure everyone understands the material thoroughly. She has overall 40 LC points which are extra credit which basically means that you get an extra letter grade per exam as long as you attend the lectures and complete the LCs which are random.
TAKE HER. Dr Hawkins is a great prof and person. Shes very funny and understanding of her students but she doesn't tolerate BS at all. The material is not always interesting and lectures can be very long. exams can be tricky but her weekly problem sets and offered extra credit really help your grade. Not the easiest A to get but doable with effort.
Professor Hawkins is truly one of a kind! She has great lectures and truly cares about her students doing well on the exams etc. The material for the class is hard within itself but coming from someone who isn't the best at science, YOU CAN DO WELL if you study hard. Study her slides and notes you take in class. Also, go to the SI sessions.
Lectures were very explanatory, and covered all material on the exams. Lots of extra credit as long as you go to class, raises each test a whole letter grade. Material is not difficult if you have taken BIOL 111 and 112. Tests are super easy, but good grades are doable as long as you listen and understand topics. Tests are proctored online.
Easiest biology teacher you're gonna find at A&M. Take her.
she was overall really good. if you have heavy work loads in other classes beware. it may seem like not a lot of work which it isn't in retrospect. but you do need to study. she does give a total of 45 extra points to your grade which can bring a D to an A. her exams are 40% open and 60% multiple choice. she's funny but can get off topic a lot
Professor Hawkins was a good lecturer. Her class was not easy and required lots of studying and effort. She gives lots of extra credit if you show up to class. Tests were not easy but were doable if you studied her lecture slides.
The course was fairly easy, however, the tests were very lecture heavy and you need to memorize a lot for them. The exams were easier than other professors based on the exam averages. Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but it's helpful to go because she goes in depth with some topics. Lots of extra credit and she's super funny and would recommend!!
Fantastic lecturer and an overall funny and joyful person. The material is not difficult and she is very good in terms of pacing the class throughout the semester. Also offers many avenues for extra credit. Highly recommend for this class.
Prof. Hawkins was a wonderful teacher. She was a very fun lecturer and made a point to communicate the concepts very clearly. Despite having a hard semester in terms of her personal life she always managed to grade things fast and keep up with lectures whether it was in person or posted online. She was caring and offered lots of extra credit.
Dr. Hawkins is an exceptional professor who offers a lot of extra credit points. She is always accessible outside of class and encourages asking questions. If you study the PowerPoint slides and the problem sets you should be fine for the tests.
Dr. Hawkin's is a phenomenal professor, who truly wants her students to do well. Her exams are not set up to trick you, just make sure you know the lecture slides front and back to do well. The other assignments are problem sets (all answers on quizlet), and 30 extra points of easy extra credit assignments that are necessary if you want an A.
Best professor I have ever had, hands down! She is so awesome and caring and genuinely cares about her students. As a biology major, this is the first biology class I could actually stay awake for because she was actually interesting. She gives 30 extra credit points, so even if you mess up on one test you can get an A. Working hard = A Grade!
Hands down the most enjoyable lecture I've had in my college experience. I was never fighting sleep or confused on what was being taught. Exams are all on lockdown browser with webcam that you take at home. They aren't super hard, but only if you study a good amount. Study the slides like crazy and you'll be fine.
Don't see the grade I received as an indication of who Dr. Hawkins is. She is so funny, so relatable, and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. She gives loads of extra credit, but this class specifically is a lot of info. I should have dedicated more time to understanding and learning because it's really easy to get behind. Go to SI. 10/10
Incredible professor! Cares so much for her students and is always willing to help. Fun lectures, and all of the exams were fair and over lockdown browser, online. She offered a good amount of extra credit opportunities, along with extra PollEverywhere questions for EC. Study the slides and learn your vocabulary and math-- take this professor!
I really could not recommend Dr. Hawkins more. She made a hard-ish class very tolerable and she's super understanding. She offered extra credit and her exams weren't that hard. Just make sure to study her reviews and attend her lectures.
she is a great professor and is super into her classes. The only complaint I have about her is she can be a bit unprofessional when it comes to certain things. For example attendance, I go to class but she sends out annoncements about attendance where you can read her pettiness at times. Were adults we figure ourselves out- she doesnt need to mommy
I litteraly looked forward to Dr Hawkins 8AM, thats how amazing she is! Explains everything so well, makes class fun and wants her students to succeed. Exams are slides bases and she will never try to "trick" you. theres tons of extra credit. Made me fall in love with biology. Take her! you wont regret it.
Dr. Hawkins is one of my favorite profs I had this year! Her lectures are engaging and if you study, her exams aren't too bad. I only got a B because I didn't study enough on my first exam. SO STUDY, and you should be fine. As for assignments, go to her office hours to get the answers for the problem sets. If you can get her, TAKE HER CLASS!
She is so funny. Exams are fair and not meant to trip you up. Work load is reasonable for a BIO-111 course. There are 3 exams and 1 cumulative final. There aren't quizzes but there are weekly problem sets, but you are able to access the internet and office hours for help. Lots of extra credit offered, and attendance counts as extra credit
Dr. Hawkins is the goat fr. There is A LOT of information you have to learn regarding Biol 111 and she made the lectures a lot more bearable. Her humor kept me engaged during lectures. She is very helpful during her office hours with quizzes. Study slides and quizzes for exams. She gives up to 30 extra bonus points which has helped my grade a lot.
Dr. Hawkins is honestly an amazing professor. Make sure to attend lectures as attendance is mandatory. She is reachable out of class and if you go to office hours when something is difficult, she will explain it. Study the notes for her lectures and they are mostly application based multiple choice questions.
Her exams were easier than the ones I had in AP Biology as they were simply based off of lecture slides with no trick questions. A cumulative final, however, there is heaps of extra credit given that boosts your grade a lot! Attendance is required and I would recommend you go to her office hours as she goes over answers to her weekly problem sets!
Amazing professor! So understanding and offered tons of extra credit! Exams are half multiple choice and half free response but not too difficult if you study and pay attention in lecture! Highly recommend Dr. Hawkins, she is so passionate about biology and the sweetest professor I have ever had!
Dr. Hawkins took over our second half of BIO 214. Her lectures were much more engaging & we actually enjoyed showing up to class (she helps with the problem sets). She is very understanding & let me take my exam open note after I had to miss 2 weeks of school! I thought her exams were harder and long, but nothing horrible. Extra credit def helped!
Very engaging and helpful, gives lots of extra credit opportunities and wants students to succeed.
Even if it's an 8am, TAKE HAWKINS. She is a great teacher, incredibly approachable (not to mention funny). She wants you to succeed. There is lots of extra credit, do it. You will have to study, but she sets clear expectations. While attendance is not mandatory, she does NOT post the slides and there is in-class extra credit, so don't skip!
Take Hawkins if you want to survive Bio 111. She is the most caring prof. I've ever had and knows what it is like to struggle in college. She is very understanding yet still challenges her students and wants them to succeed. Exam questions are worded weird sometimes, but as long as you study and work hard, it will definitely pay off! I love Angela!
Her class isn't exactly easy, but if you put in the work, come to class and listen, she is AMAZING. I learned so much from her and I'm sad she's not my professor for 112. 100% Take her! And put in the work! Do all the extra credit.
Subject was not easy but, Dr. Hawkins is a great lecturer and jokester. She explained topics very thoroughly and explained even more if anyone had questions. She gave many opportunities for extra credit and was very accessible and nice outside of class. You have to put in the work to do well in class but she is very helpful in getting you there.
Hawkins is the BEST! She offers so much extra credit (~30 points) and her lectures are so much fun. She gives great examples and makes asking questions during class super easy! You can tell that she enjoys teaching and watching students succeed. No practice exams, but if you put in the effort to learn the material, you can get an A on the exams.
Absolutely love Dr. Hawkins. She is extremely approachable, caring, hilarious, relatable, all things good. She is willing to help you succeed as long as you communicate and give 110%. Attend her lectures because she explains very well. She gives tons of extra credit inside and outside of class. Definitely attend office hours. She's amazing!!!!
Hawkins is an amazing professor and made every lecture fun and interesting. Be sure to study for exams but it's easy to just follow along with her slides. Make use of her office hours!!!
By far the best professor I have had at TAMU. She is so caring and is willing to work with her students. She wants to see you succeed and offers half the missed points back on every exam. Her lectures are entertaining and her slides are detailed enough if you happen to miss class. You can, but don't skip class, she makes it worth it to go. TAKE HER
She makes biology interesting and engaging! She is also so funny and interacts with students very well, always starting conversations in the middle of class and listening to questions anyone asks biology-related or not! Her exams are relatively easy however, there is no practice exam but she gives you more than enough material to study
I loved Dr. Hawkins and enjoyed learning biology from her. She gives out lots of extra credit but don't be fooled he exams can get a bit tricky at times. Since there is not many assignments to complete I would tend to forget about studying for the class and get behind before exams. Study a bit every day and go to class and you will get an A.
I felt that she was very knowledgeable in BIO 111 however, some of the exams seemed to be exceptionally difficult compared to other professors. Tests were long and confusing. Over all nice person but, this class is not easy and requires a lot of work.
The best biology professor possible. I love her teaching style and think she truly cares about her students. Over 30 points of extra credit available throughout the year and lots of free points for problem sets. Wish I could have her for 112 as well.
Hawkins is the BEST for 214! 3 exams and 10 problem sets = entire class (600 points). An A was an 89.5 or higher! Lectures were great- super funny and engaging! Memorize the slides, review problem sets, and ask questions! Exams were 60% MCQ, 40% FRQ. Go to her office hours for PS- she works through them with you! Would definitely take her again!
Professor Hawkins is a fantastic teacher if you attend class and use her office hours. There is plenty of extra credit points and the assignments due each week are easy since she goes over them in office hours. The tests are slightly difficult, but manageable even though she doesn't curve. Overall, a great professor for 111 if you pay attention.
BEST PROF EVER! Lectures are super engaging and always kept my attention. Exams are long and pretty difficult, but with lots of studying, I was able to pass them all. She offers SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT! Only homework is a weekly quiz which she goes over all the answers to during office hours. Attendance is not mandatory, but you need to go to do well!
TAKE HER! She posts power points and you fill them in during class. GO TO CLASS. So much extra credit opportunity and it does a number on your grade! Made an A on every exam, they are straight forward but don't take that for granted and still make sure to study! One weekly assignment and she will go over answers in office hours. 10/10 recommend.
Love her as a professor I just found her exams really hard. They were long , time crunch, & stressful. Never took ap bio. TEST HEAVY!!! She gives no past exam examples. Labs were easy and useless as in bio 111 tend to be. Final is not cumulative and required. She would create exams the day before so studying was hard.
Her exams are so hard !!!!!! Loved her vibes but her exams were tricky. I would just not do her class again. So much work.
I love her class and is willing to talk to you and do almost anything!
I #LOVE, in all caps, LOVE this professor. She is very sweet and engaging- she can clearly explain topics and keeps me locked in on lectures. You have problem sets every now and then with 1 attempt, but you can exit and come back to it at any time. It's pretty nice, i would recommend if you are going to take 214.
Professor Hawkins is an engaging lecturer. While her exams are challenging, she offers ample extra credit opportunities. I found using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and class notes really helpful for studying and prep.
Engaging lectures. No textbook/reading needed. Tests based on lectures. No reviews but the homeworks and SI were helpful. Tests were kind of hard - not to trick you but you just have to read clearly and think (obv.) Definitely take her!
Notes are fill in the blank so show up to get the notes. the exams are HARD be prepared (Be sure to ask her, she will help you). Other than that she's a great professor and always willing to help out. Extra credits are a lifesaver, barely any homework just one problem set a week.
She is my favorite professor at A&M. While her tests are hard because they are application based, she actually gets you to care about the material you are learning. She is amazing in lecture and has so much passion for what she teaches that it helps the class be engaged.
This professor is literally the best. Her lectures are super engaging and you can tell she's very passionate about the subject and getting the message across to her students. She gives so many extra credit opportunities and provides multiple attempts on quizzes with handwritten feedback to make sure you understand why you got it wrong.
This professor is so passionate about biology, and it really shows. She explains the topics clearly and kept me engaged during my 8AM lecture. Make sure to actually attend class though because she uses fill-in-the-blank notes. The exams can be challenging, but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade!
Great lectures, go to class so you get the notes and extra credit. Homework is 15 problem sets throughout the semester, and tests are difficult but very similar to the problem sets. I recommend reading the online textbook since there are some details that aren't explained in lecture. Overall a great prof if you're willing to study for the exams.
Dr. Hawkins very clearly loves biology (especially plants lol) and it's contagious. If you're confused, go to her office hours; she is always open to answering questions (and looks like she has an amazing time doling it) and meeting with students if they need it! Make sure to read the exam questions thoroughly, it's a little tricky sometimes.
Professor Hawkins is awesome. She is very good at lecturing; she is dynamic, funny, and engaging. She is so easy to work with and communicates well with students. Study for exams and go to SI sessions because they really do help. A lot of extra credit is given through iClickers so be sure to attend class.
Dr.Hawkins is amazing, definitely take her if you can! I had an 8am w/ her and she made the class enjoyable and easier to wake up early for. She provides extra credit assignments, has flexible office hours & lectures often include pics of her cats! Attendance isn't mandatory but filled in lecture notes aren't published until right before the tests.
She's literally so funny. I genuinely enjoyed going to lecture because the atmosphere was always so warm. She adds extra credit as well as iclicker points. The homework is very similar to exams. She does have group exams + solo exams. (exam 3 = 75% solo, 25% group). Nothing is ever on lockdown browser btw. Questions can be a little hard.
Dr. Hawkins is clearly a professor who cares about teaching. She was a really nice person, and I felt that she wanted everyone to do well in her class. However, as someone who does not enjoy science much, it was not worth waking up at 8 a.m. I found her exams to be a bit difficult compared to other BIOL 111 professors.
Easiest biology class of my life. Go to office hours to work on the problem sets! Exams were individual and then a group one. She has a fantastic personality and I would take her again 1000 times! Even as a summer class, I succeeded and learned a ton.
Man, I really did not want to write this review as she is a nice person, but I think others should be aware of this. During exams, the professor had us seated densely together. There was a very obviously ill student showing symptoms, professor and TA's did nothing to isolate them. It shows a lack of consideration from the professor.
Mrs. Hawkins cares about her students, her material, and wants everyone to succeed! I will say her tests are hard because they are very detailed, but that's not a flaw of character or teaching style. She has student review hours, great office hours (three times a week), grades really fast, and just overall puts a lot of effort into class.
Shes really sweet and engaging, and I would have gotten an A if it wasn't for the exams and labs... You can know all the material and the wording of her exams will still leave you with a B or lower. TRICK QUESTIONS GALORE Exams are no joke. Fun, easy class other than that. Labs can be annoying but she gives extra credit for attendance.
Dr. Hawkins is AMAZING she is one of my favorite profs so far. She is energetic and makes learning fun cracking lots of jokes and is very clear about what will be tested on exams. The hw is easy and exams are just like the problem sets/practice exam. Love this professor so much!!
Funny, sweet, and overall great teacher—I would take her again in a heartbeat. Biggest piece of advice is to know that the quizzes are multiple choice but the EXAMS ARE NOT ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE THERE IS FREE RESPONSE. The first exam caught a lot of people off guard this way but she gave us a lot of extra credit to make up for it!
LOVE HER! Shes so funny and makes lectures semi interesting. Def have to study for exams but they werent too bad. Def go to lecture most of the time but missing a few times shouldnt hurt you. Gives extra credit. Really good prof and knows her stuff. Would def take her again!!
I love this woman beyond words. In a really tough department that is pretty much ruthless, she is genuinely an amazing person who actually cares about students. She lectures in a way that is easy to understand and funny! Could not recommend more!
Dr. Hawkins is hilarious and teaches the class in a very lighthearted, interesting way. Her lectures prepare you well for the exams, which are half open ended and half multiple choice. Group quizzes before each exam which is basically a practice exam. Very helpful in office hours and will go over every question on the homework. Super kind/caring!
She's awesome & I'd take her again. Her class is manageable but free-response heavy. Super accessible outside of class & her office hours can help to finish problem sets & ask questions. SI sessions helped but the material is straightforward, although slides can be dense & hard to understand. She's very approachable & looked out for out learning.
Best STEM prof I've had! She's passionate, funny, and explains concepts clearly with helpful analogies. Lectures are key—tests are lecture heavy but fair if you understand the material. Lots of chances for extra credit. Great lecturer who truly cares about student success!
LOVED Dr. Hawkins! I am not a STEM person, but I found her lectures to be fun and engaging. She cares about teaching, but she is also aware that she is teaching an intro class and gives lots of grace. If you pay attention and do what's expected, you should make an A.
Took her class last semester. She makes herself easily accessible (in-person and by email) and is clear about what will be covered on exams. You have to go to class because her notes are fill-in-the-blank. Grade is out of 1,000, so very forgiving. Ended up with over 100. 31 extra credit points! Best prof ever BY FAR! She also LOVES cats.
SUPER kind and funny. She does not lecture... she speaks to you! She is passionate about what she teaches. Homework is similar to exams. Exams are in groups (75% group, 50%, 25%, 0%) for the 3 exams and final. She is very willing to help and I would take another class from her in a heartbeat. Questions can be confusing at times though...
She was Amazing, My grade don't really show it. Her test were very very difficult, but I just prayed for a C in the class. I failed every single test, the extra credit made me pass this class. But I loved the lectures, and I studied for hours and still failed test. If you good at BIO 100% take it. Im just not good at science. TAKE HER. Im being fr.
Top 5 best proffs! Her lectures were very engaging and it is clear she has a passion for biology. Go to class--you get extra credit. 3 exams + final. Go to office hours for homework, she goes through everything. Very easy class, just make sure you continuously review concepts to understand. Lab is lab, but not bad as other departments (chemistry!!)
Never expected to get an A in an ecology class after train wreck of BIOL 112. She is a very nice prof with amazing lecturing skills. Attendance not mandatory but honestly I encourage going to lecture. Problem sets weekly that help for exam and grade and group quizzes prior to exam which are also helpful. Exams can be somewhat hardimo sostudyslides
If I could take Professor Hawkins for every Bio I would. Her lectures were so funny and she made everything super easy to understand. The course overall doesn't have very much homework and offers a good amount of extra credit. She also releases practice exams about a week before every exam which helps a lot to know what to expect.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The best professor I have ever had! She cares so much about her students and office hours are so helpful. The information can be difficult, but the class itself is pretty easy! Take her no matter what!
If it weren't for labs not submitting right I would have passed (would have done very well if I'd taken better notes (weak skill of mine) and studied a wee bit more for exams), so triple check. Amazing, fascinating professor. Loved her and I'm taking her again so I can pass this time. TAKE HER!!!
Professor Hawkins was amazing! She was clearly passionate about teaching and explained everything very thoroughly. Her practice tests were very helpful for figuring out what type of questions will be on the test. Would love to take her for every BIO class if I could!
Dr. Hawkins is an incredible lecturer and is easily the best professor for this class. She cares so much about her students and is very accessible outside of class hours.
Dr. Hawkins makes difficult concepts easy to understand and explains all concepts within this course very clearly. She is accessible outside of class through office hours and cares tremendously about all of her students. I highly recommend taking her for any biology class she teaches.
Super easy class. Gave 30 pts in extra credit. Super available for office hours or general help. The test questions were sometimes set up to trick you but other than that pretty straight forward. Do the work and slight studying and you're good to go. Would def take again, also does honors course contracts that was super reasonable.
Taken Fall 2024. Professor Hawkins contends with one other for the best professor I've had so far. She is SO caring, and she tries to be as accessible as possible with her content. She knows this is a hard class. No exams are dropped, but she does offer extra credit. Her practice exams were lifesavers for knowing where you were at with the content.
She is such a fun professor her lectures are vey entertaining and she uses great graphics. She also is a lot of fun to talk to even just in her office hours. Her exams are not hard and she drops 4 questions you miss in each exam. She prepares you well for exams too with a required practice exam and one pagers that you have to complete.
Love Dr. Hawkins! Super kind and class was easy to succeed in if you just study. Exams are not tricky and you can easily do well by studying the lecture slides. Gives extra credit, iclicker also extra credit and exams are 44 questions but only graded out of 40, so essentially 4 bonus questions. Definitely take!!
so funny and nice, tests are pretty easy but the questions aren't that straightforward (need some critical thinking), has extra credit and iclicker extra credit as well. awesome teacher
Absolutely amazing professor and is the best you could take for 111. She is hilarious, concise, and understanding of how busy her students are. Her exams are honestly pretty easy, quite literally everything you need are on the PowerPoints. Lecture is optional, but I would recommend going for extra credit and because they're actually really helpful
Hawkins is an amazing prof and an engaging lecturer. She gives lots of opportunities outside of exams to gain points, and is very gracious with exam grading. Highly recommend
Hands down the best BIO 111 professor ever. Very easy to access outside of class which helps a ton. Gives extra credit along with coming to class is points that can be received. I recommend 100%
Dr. Hawkins is clearly really passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches. Biology is a really hard subject, but the way she explains things make it more simple. Although I wouldn't say her exams are the easiest, if you study, you'll be fine. She offers a lot of extra credit as well, so make sure to do that! Overall, a super sweet lady!
Dr. Hawkins was an amazing prof. She is very helpful and answers questions/lectures really well. She is also really entertaining and enjoys making dad jokes.
She is such a amazing proff, and truly cares about students. Makes lecture very fun and not boring. Lots of extra credit through iclicker. If you have the chance TAKE HER. I would a million times. Exams are multiple choice with 3 extra credit questions, as well as a total of 25 extra credit points at the end of semester. (.25 added to final grade).
She is a lovely person and is excellent in office hours and lectures. Sadly, BIOL 111 is just a boring class by default. She loses 1 point because she sometimes goes off on tangents in lectures, which wastes review time, but she makes this class an easy A. She clearly loves the course material, and I would 100% recommend her for this class!
