Has no idea what she is talking about. She teaches "History according to Lakwete" but if you pay attention and don't say a word in her class, you can get a good grade. Her tests come from her own personal lectures, not from the group. DONT NEED

Tests are tough
She is very opinionated and strikes down answers if they don't meet what she thinks very harshly. She doesn't grade on all facts, she grades on her opinion. To much cotton gin info.
Extremely unhelpful. Drop class immediately if you get her. Trust me. She'll make your life a living hell.
Hard and BORING. Mostly unhelpful and opinionated. Fell asleep many-a-time in her class. By all means, find another professor ASAP.

She seems to enjoy confusing students, and likes to call on people just for her enjoyment in tearing apart their(usually correct)answer. She talks in circles and most of the time never achieves a main point. If you get this class...drop it immediately!

BEWARE OF GORRILAS when entering her class. She enjoys failing students for fun. I read the text for every test and almost failed every one. Always thinks she's right. Talks about her personal opinion, which always sucks, way too much
This class is very hard, I do repeat very hard. The tests are crazy multiple choice answers that sound all the same. She will expect you to have read all the assignments and respond by answering difficult essay questions. Please take someone else.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Impossible to please and tries to make you feel stupid. Do yourself a favor and drop this class immediately. Not very helpful and grades on her own opinion (which tends to change from time to time).

Took her a couple of semesters ago. My only C in college. Came back to this site just to read how much everyone else hated her. I agree with everything said. If we don't take her she won't have a job. Save yourself!!!!

I did not have this lady, but my friend did. Never has she studied so much for a class only to get a bad grade. This "teacher" really irritates me and I didn't even have her, thankfully.

I liked her so much I took her twice. All you had to do to make a good grade in this class was learn what she wanted to hear. It didnt matter what was right and wrong. You just answer the questions with her opinions and DONT ARGUE WITH HER.

I took her and got an A in the class. I did have to study a little bit, but just ask questions in class and she'll like that. One of my few A's - I didnt think that she was a that bad.
What is the thesis of this woman? I really don't know. She is nice and somewhat helpful outside of class however.

She is unfair, unclear, and if you forget a period after one of your sentences in an essay, be prepared: it's going to be minus something. Don't take her class; wait a semester if you have to!

It's an interesting class, but she isn't very lenient about quizzes. She also marks "correct answers" wrong if it isn't the particular answer she's looking for. She's nice, but she contradicts the book and herself quite frequently.

Terrible class. Made an A but spent a crappy semester doing it. Requires you to know too much information for tests. Only her opinions are correct answers. My advice: DO NOT TAKE!!!!
Lots of civ, very little tech. She does mark correct answers wrong sometimes, but if you can argue why you chose that answer, she'll generally give you the point. Map quizzes were awful. Tests were so-so. Offers extra credit.
If you are interested in grammer, then take her. She has no mercy and is probably the worst professor I've ever came in contact with. She thinks that America adopted our entire culture from Africa. She is HORRIBLE!!!

She is horrible. This is one of very few classes I got out of by midterm. She is beyond hard.
I had her for both Tech and Civ 1 and 2. I made a D in her first class, but never went to class ans her tests were impossible to pass. In Tech and Civ 2 I made AN A. Her tests were 100% easier. Just go to class, keep up with notes and the concepts and questions sheets every week. TAKE THE QUIZES!
I had this woman last year, and she has some serious issues. Anyway, if you are in her class it would be a lot easier for you to get out and get Dr. Hild. He is easy, but definitely do not stay in her class if you care about your grade.

Dr. Lakwete is an awesome history professor. I had her for Tech and Civ 1 & 2 and made A's in both. She is very interesting and her tests come directly from what she covers in class. Great TEACHER!
I had this bi tch my first semester at Auburn and I made my first and only C of my college career. The woman is crazy. You can get a question exactly right and forgot to dot an i or cross a t and you get the question wrong.

I have now graduated Auburn. She is my only reason for not having a 4.0. I wish I had used a complete sentence on test 1 and made my period at the end more clear of a dot. It's been four years now and I stand behind it: WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!
First of all lets cry a river for the person before me who couldn't get their 4.0. About Lakwete;loves Africa- I dont understand it; I think she should go live in Africa and get chased by tribes and lions that wanna eat you or cook you. She is pretty nice if you meet her though, just real hard.
lakwete expects her students to know exactally what she is thinking all of the time. she will ask a broad question and expect only one narrow answer - and count only that answer as correct. very very hard!!! switch sections!!! she seems nice at first... but she is impossible!!

Very nice, odd at times, makes weird connections when describing things, just go to class and she'll beat into your head everything that'll be on the test. I learned a lot.
The Biggest **** ever, her tests are super hard, and cover the smallest areas of details fromlectures and tests. Her discussion groups are even worse, because all she ever talks about is women and african americans.
She's OK to take in the summer. She did a lot of hands-on stuff. But apparently, that was a trick to get you to get into her regular sessions. In 1220, she was awful. She expects you to remember minute details from Monday lectures. She asks very opinion-based questions; if you don't share her opinion, you're wrong. Anal about punctuation.

Not a good idea if you like a high gpa. She's hard, doesn't speak very well in class about the subject, and wants every small detail on the tests. Not a good freshman class to take.

Don't go into this class if you're not expecting to work. She grades pretty hard, but she makes a lot of sense. I have learned a lot about history from her. I had her for Tech and Civ and Southern Industry.

Lakwete has a difficult class. It requires a lot of textbook reading and great note-taking skills. If you read the reading assignments, completed the concepts worksheets, pay attention in class, and do the extra credit you should do well. Her tests are easy and I recommend studying in groups. It's the main reason I passed.

she is the devil! she quizes you on crap that has nothing to do with the chapter and if you don't write exactly what shes thinking then its wrong. (Example: my answer: "Their houses." her reply: "i wanna say no. the correct answer is their homes." she also makes up words. if i were you id try to get out of tech & civ all together.
She is very hypocritical and expects you to know exactly what she is thinking without her teaching it. She makes up words and somehow revolves every thing that has been invented to Africa. DON'T get her, unless you want to be completely miserable

Wow. Really difficult professor. I studied A LOT and barely skimmed out of there with a B- . Doesnt really "teach" a lot, just expects you to know everything. There's a quiz every week, some of which dont have any relevance to material. Find another professor.
She has a true passion for history, which she expects you to have also. Assigns reading each week, which is crucial if you expect to pass the class. Quizzes given each week. Obsssed with complete sentences, and picky answers.

This class was a BIG disappointment. The instructor lacks to desire and ability to be good instructor. Too many guest lecturers. Tested on material not covered. I know several really good students who did poorly in this class. I strongly encourage you to select another instructor.
If you end up in her class, she is very interested in Africa and anything to do with textiles. Try to get on her good side at the begining of the semester and she will go a little easier on you!

This class is pretty difficult. It might be a bit easier if you get a different professor other than Dr. Lakwete. She wants very specific answers on your essay questions, and you HAVE to do the reading in order to keep up in class. I would suggest a different professor, or taking World History.

This class should be called Civilization, because our class rarely covered any technology. Unless you want to hate history, I highly recommend that you drop this class.
If you don't want to work, don't take her class. You HAVE to do the readings. Get on her good side, and you'll be fine. That means u need to read & do well on the quizzes & participate. Not the greatest teacher. Go 2 class. study guides are pretty helpful but she includes things she never assigned as evidence but are in the book. good luck!!
Lakwete has absolutely tormented me throughout this semester of Tech and Civ II. If she doesn't like you, you will be miserable. I highly recommend taking any other techer, for this may possibly be an interesting class. I wouldn't know, however, because Lakwete is an opinionated prick with a chip on both shoulders. For those enrolled- god bless.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I would study non stop for this class, just to manage a C. She expects you to know the book inside and out, if not better than she does. She forgets to realize that tech and civ is not our only class and ambition in life. She's very picky on her tests and quizzes, and is flat out mean to certain people. RUN!!!
She was so incredibly biased and opinionated the entire time. I read an earlier comment that stated she might be anti-American, and i almost have to agree. She enjoys making people feel bad and arguing. LOVES talking about how America sucks. "You couldn't do it, because I couldn't do it." -actual quote from her when describing threading a loom.

She is not a good teacher. I'm pretty sure the only person that understands this woman is the woman herself. I should have listened to these other ratings/comments. I withdrew, but I wish I had dropped with no W on my transcript. Do that before it's too late or you'll regret it.

By far the worst teacher of my entire academic career. This woman may be intelligent, or at least knowledgeable about the cotton gin, but she does not know anything about teaching or basic human social and communication skills. GET OUT of her class!!! Three weeks in I was failing even though I read everyday. I struggled to fight for a passing grade. She didn't even let me make up a quiz when I had emergency surgery! Crazy, liberal teacher. Leave the class! RUN!!!!!!!!
Lakwete isn't as bad as everyone says she is. That being said, she's not great, either. Don't EVER try to dispute a grade - she just gets mad at you and gives you bad grades in the future. Get on her good side at the beginning and you'll be glad you did!!!!!!!!!!
I want to emphasize that she gives a lot of bonus. In the lectures, she has you ask a 'thoughtful' question, and if she likes your answer, you get bonus in the quiz category... this will save your life if you pay attention in the lecture! The quizzes are worth 40% pf your grade, so make sure to put forth effort in them, and have her explain grading
I would recommend not taking her class. It is impossible to persuade her to change your grades, even if you can show her that you got your information directly from the textbook. This goes for quizzes, papers, and exams. Even if you study the book tediously to do well, if you can't read her mind, you won't know for sure how good your answers are.

Just a midterm and a final exam - weekly quizzes and assignments. DO THE READING. You won't succeed on the quizzes and especially on the tests if you don't read out of the book; however, quizzes were easy and helped my grade out a little. I think people give her a hard time - she's really not bad and she is a really sweet lady.
Ugh. Pretty boring class and you have to show up or you will fail for sure. Quizzes every Wednesday, assignments every Friday, lectures every Monday, but those aren't so bad. Get ready for bleh central.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. She is extremely vague in lectures, and wants you to "interpret" history. The problem is you better interpret it the same way she has or you'll fail. Weekly quizzes over the Monday lecture that are impossible even if you never skip class and thoroughly read the book because she wants you to "interpret"
Day 1- lecture with the other Tech and Civ teachers/students. Day 2- Quiz and a very biased discussion. If you don't read or take lecture notes, your quiz grade is down the hole. Day 3- Student-based discussion about assigned reading, and a page summary on the reading. Lots of work for a confusing teacher who only wants to talk about textiles.
I can't even begin to explain this woman. She obviously has no idea what an outline is. She jumps all over the place and won't stop talking about textiles. She teaches her opinion, and completely skips over the topic of slavery. Many times I have kept my mouth shut when she blatantly teaches the class incorrect information.
Let me first just say you'll here about textiles a lot so get ready. Honestly I would try to avoid this teacher at all costs. She is not clear when she gives lectures and her grading is extremely tough. Basically if you don't write what she believes is correct it is wrong even if the book says otherwise. Avoid her at all costs
