really boring but easy.

Very sweet, very pretty lady. She discusses things that aren't on her tests and she's not very clear on what she's testing on. Interesting class, tho
booooring
Good teacher. Her class requires some hard work, but it is worth it. She is very helpful and kind. I enjoyed both of her anthro. classes.
fair teacher, many extra credit chances
Very clear, great teacher. Tests can be difficult, but other assignments are easy, and extra credit opportunities are given. Highly recommend.
I hate this material and didnt study much so I did bad. Left class early and got yelled at for it. She is hot but with that comes a stick in the rear. Fend for yourself here. Take Rigby if you can, he's legit.
I think she sux as a teacher becuase she is too hot to make us pay atention to the lecture she has that hot look to her that makes people stare at her face rather to the board
She is a very good teacher hard but fair. If you are looking for a free ride drop, to pass you must come to class and read the book. Her class is not imposible but challenging. Her test are hard but their are ex. credit chances so the "A" is not
Ok teacher, anthro 11 kinda hard though.
Interesting lectures. She gives study guides for all her tests. For the anthro 2 honors class, there are three article reviews which are really simple to complete (yet annoying) and a research paper (a bit challenging). Great teacher!
This class was easy to a point. Some of the names of things were hard and really long but she tries to really repeat herself so that you will really understand. She is a great teacher though and her tests are exactly what she puts on her study guides.
seems to be very gullable but not to be taken for a fool, she knows what she is doing
I though her class was easy but I hear the honors class is a lot harder. She is really nice and helpful and I really enjoyed her class!
i took her for summer and i DO NOT recommend it! she always went off track and it took her forever to go over a chapter. she was gone for 4 days and then she piled chapters on us- which was not fair! she should not be teaching summer school.
She is a very good teacher and very clear. She gives you a study guide for the test so you know what is on it. There is barely any extra credit but if you go over the chapter well enough you should get a good grade. Her lectures are very interesting.
You can study the study guides and get a reasonable grade, but lecture-wise she seems to read off her power point notes. Her presence as a teacher seems meaningless, since you become brain-dead. She makes antrho boring, unless ur a horny teenager.
sux. Always absent. Typical union teacher.
Her lectures are very interesting and helpful.
Very interesting class but tough. Make sure you do all your reading and study hard for the tests. You need to know EVERYTHING. I really enjoyed the class and she drops your lowest test score so that definitely helps out (I got a C on one test, dropped it, got an A in the class).
she sucks. i took her over the summer. dosent expalin her lectures very well. tests are not clear, and tricky
I Thought she was a great teacher, she knows her subject very well but the tests arn't easy the quizzes are though.
Make sure to read what she expects you to read, even though she might not go over it in class, it'll be on the tests.
I didn't like her style of teaching. Can't keep up with her lectures. She talks too quickly and doesn't repeat herself. Sorry i'm not the quickest writer in the world. Her tests suck, quizzes too. I really wanted to enjoy this class but couldn't. I ended up dropping
She acts like a teenager in a snobby sort of way. She is condescending - her mannerisms bothered me. I felt like i was being taught by someone my age. She sucks..but shes hot
Shes so hot!! Dirty thoughts all day in class. But yeah its an easy A if you take notes and study 15 min. before the tests.
Very informative professor. The lectures and cool, and the way she presents the material is excellent. Yeah, the tests and quizzes are tough, but it' sa challege to get good grades. (oh...yeah, she's hot!)
really disorganized, out-of-the-teacher's manual professor, without her book she would be ultimately flustered and confused. tests are easy, as well as quizzes.
HOTTT
I am an 3.5gpa student, read the book and studied, ended up with a D! She missed 5 days of class during summer, can't answer your questions if its not in the book, and when asked if she assigns papers, she replied snobbishly "I don't assign papers because I don't feel like reading." Condesending.
Mrs. Mannen is a professional instructor. If you take good note, read the material and pay attention, you should be able to do well in the course. I got "A's" in all three courses. Good luck...
Reminds me of Will's cousin (forgot her name) in Bel-Air. Brains and beauty never goes together. Not sure if she comes in school for lecture or fashion show off.
Holy crap, she's boring. I had no idea what to expect, but she didn't do anything to make this class interesting. I haven't finished yet, so I can't fairly judge her ease, but I'm pretty sure I'll be lucky to get a B. I think she's new, but I'd suggest you get a different teacher for this class.
I don't know about you guys, but for me Ms. Mannen is a great prof!I took my honors class with her and I got an A. Her exams are hard, yes, but it gets predictable once u go on with the semester. Don't rely on her study guide, study the text instead! And exams are only 50% of the grade, there's a lo
Great teacher, bda subject. Plan on taking her ant 1 class next semester.
I thought that she was a wonderful teacher. I thought over all with some effort (because this is college) her test were easy. I did not think she was snoby or anything like that, only nice. I also thought she had a lot of knowledge in anthro.
I thought she was okay. but the thing I wanted to mention was I think she gave couple tests and I got Cs and Ds only.. hahha. and I did extra credit and only studied for the final which I got 100 percent on and ended up with an A for the final grade. =) what you think?
Would have been a better class if we spent a period before the test reviewing or get to use notes, like in all the tech classes.
She was a fantastic teacher. She is a little tough but if you go to class and read the material as well as study you will do fine! I got A's in both of the classes I took with her, and they weren't that hard to get!!
And she calls herself a teacher. I dont think so! you will think that your in a highschool class. She talks about what is in the book only if you ask her a ? thats not in the book she does not know how to answer it. get ready for nap time, and she is an attendance freak, and should be teaching H/S
I took her in Summer 2003. She lectures well and she is enthusiastic. There are a lot of questions on her exam that take a lot of brain power to analyze and to process and examine.
She's hot and a little boring. Teaches like a book on tape person.
if you want to pass this class dont take her, her exams are pretty hard, n her class is a hell of a boring, she is nice but it doesnt work when you r in her class taking a exam that you will never pass? take my advise dotn take her or else you will end up getting a D or F ..... or droping out.
She is a very nice teacher. I liked her test, which did not seemed hard for me at all. I got a B in her class with little effort. Her test are based on the text and her lectures.
Can go either way really, class could be really boring or filled with discussion and energetic. Has a pretty good knowledge of the subject but can be stumped by questions every now and then. Offered LOTS of extra cedit. Tests are pretty much all from the book, read the chapters and you'll be fine. Was very nice, not stuck up at all
This was a great and very culturally enriching class. Angela was a great teacher. The lectures were boring but could be helpful for tests. The class can easily be passed if the proper amount of effort is put forth.
easy class very clueless teacher she will never take of her Tiffany jewlery and she thinks she's so hot but she really is just another person
She is a great teacher! You have to really pay attention in class but if you do that you will learn a lot from her. Trust me, she knows what she is talking about! A hint for the tests, review each point on the study guide she gives you and you will be fine!
This teacher is AWESOME! She hands out a studyguide and she tests on that and her lectures. Easy to earn an A if you take notes and use her studyguide. And she is very pretty and speaks clearly!
ya she sucks!! she knows what she's talking about..but don't try to argue with her she might hit u with her tiffany's bracelit. She doesn't give any homework which u might think it's cool at first, but then all u have left are tests..and they're pretty hard..Idk i guess if u like to actually read ur book take her.
great teacher. tests are hard though so you have to read everything in the book since she doesn't give out any hw.

This class is pretty easy. All you gotta do is just listen to her lecture and get pretty good grades on her tests even though they are pretty long. Cause its not like she gives out any homework or anything. If youre dumb, you'll fail. If you do what you're suppose to do then you'll be fine.

Total ****!! If you're the type of student that actually reads the material then this is the class for you. Her tests anre pretty difficult, she always puts more than 1 correct answer on a ? which is why every 1 fails her tests. Lousy teacher..
Study guides and lectures are extremely unhelpful, and a complete waste of time. I wouldnt even attend if attendance didnt count. The key to success in Mannen's class, however, is reading every single page of assigned reading. Doing the quizzes on the book's website also helps. Tests come straight from the book's testbank. Significant E.C. offered
she's a cool teacher but the tests are kinda hard and very long
She is a great person and very sweet and has alot to teach but her classes are just too boring. The tests are too hard and she needs to lecture less and teach more. but She does know what she is talking about and if u are a great studyier then u'll do well.
Mannen has knowledge but lacks organization. Her notes are basic and her study guide is pretty much what the website of the book offers. You will succeed if this is like your hardest class, because there is a lot of memorization involved. If you take her READING and more RE-READING is a must. Only 15 points possible for x-credit. GOOD LUCK !!
She lectures waaaay to much, its like watching a t.v. where you can't change the channel and you are stuck to the chair for an hour and 40 min...tests are all multiple choice and kinda confusing...
You can get an A if you answer all the questions on the study guide and memorize them. The tests are long but they are multiple choice. Take the cultural class, it's not too hard. DON'T ask questions in class, she doesn't like it if you do. But it's a relatively easy A.
She is a great teacher, she knows her stuff and her tests are multiple choice so they aren't that hard. If you go to class and take good notes, you should easily get a good grade.
Inspirational teacher. You really should take this class. Tests are multiple choice. Extra credit is available. And she really knows her stuff. Really interesting subject material. Can't recommend her enough.
A great teacehr! Really enjoyed her class. If you go to class, take notes, and read the book, you will do fine. I got three A's from her just by doing that. If you are looking for an easy course, then you should take someone else. Her lectures can be kind of boring in the cultural classes, but this mey be becasue I'm not a fan of Cultural Anthro...
She is nice, but you have to study a lot if you want an A in her class. The most helpful thing to get a good grade is the book.
if you feel like studying the study guides only..prepare for a C...if you feel like spending 20 hours a week studying anthropology to get an A, have no life and get an A, good for you...she is cute though, i'll give her that
Great teacher! She was also really nice. Gives practically no HW. Tests are a little difficult but they are multiple choice. She definitely loves what she does. Also, she tends to lecture off powerpoint, but the information is still really interesting.
Good Teacher. Tests can be difficult, but if you do all your work you can do good in this class.
I do not recommend this teacher primarily because she cannot teach anything unless specified in the book. Her lectures and study guides are useless, and the class is very boring. Bottom line, if you want an A, read every single page of the book...reading the entire book is the only way to get a good grade!! Her tests are multiple choice w/a couple
she's very sincere and helpful
Angela is a very sweet lady I was scared to take her class because of some ratings I saw on here but after taking it I found it was not that bad. She is a great teacher and gives a decent ammount of extra credit, even drops your lowest test score. Very good on explaining things as long as you keep it related to class material! (to the guy below me)
She's a great storyteller. Great attatude.
After taking her class I learned nothing new about culture. This is the most redundant, useless, and boring class I have EVER taken. If you want to learn about culture watch the Discovery channel or read National Geographic, you will learn a lot more. Mannen is not genuine and very unhelpful, plus her looks are overrated.
Shes hot, shes funny, shes nice and she speaks loud. Her teaching is boring. Its like listening to a 1hr long audio book, and then maybe a 20 minute video about what she just talked about. She also is very robotic like (One. Word. At. A. Time.), then she writes what she just said on the board. Read the book. She gives very helpful study guides.
Took her for honors and wasn't that bad. Just pay attention in class, take notes, do well on her article reviews, do the extra credit, and you'll do fine. I hardly read the book but paid attention in class and took notes and got an A. She was nice and peppy.

She is sweet, but a little ditzy. If you come to class and take notes it is an easy class. The test are straight from the lecture notes and the book. This is not a hard class as long as you go everyday, participate and do the assignments/essays.
this is a very inteesting class to take, but she is a sticklier for attendance and tardiness. as long as you attend class and take okak notes the test are easy. the bok is easy to understand and she gives excellent study guides.
Prof.Mannen is very nice, however her lecture is pretty boring and the exams are hard. If many students don't get good grades, she doesn't try to find a way out. most of the time she is behind her schedule so that the students have to read the materials their own.i think not many people get A in her class...most of them are B and C...
I took the honors class. It wasnt that bad. The class was set up so that you take 3 tests, and she drops the lowest. 3 Article reviews. One ethnography paper worth 100 pts, and the final. The tests are somewhat confusing, based on book + lectures. She is a fair grader, and a fun person, but her lectures are super boring. I wanted to fall asleep.
Great teacher. Class was easy, tests were based on study guides she gave out, no take-home work other than some extra credit and studying for tests.
this teacher is extremely boring and her tests do not make any sense watsoever. the lectures do not have anything to do with the questions on the test which makes class long lectures pointless. the only way to do good is read every word in the book..her tests questions have more than one answer so a lotta people fail, the only upside is she is HOT!
Interesting class! Came into the class knowing nothing about subject. Didn't even know what the word "anthropology" means. Lectures can be boring at times, but bearable. Make sure you read the book because it will help a lot. Exams are pretty easy, she doesn't try to trick you. Lowest exam will be drop!
never read the book and got a B in the class. just take notes and study them and you should pass. she gives study guides before every test so its not that hard
She's really nice. Take down notes in lecture and your own notes from the book. Participate in class. Helpful study guide, but be sure to READ the book!
tests are easy if you read the book and come to class. so hot you can't help but pay attention
I would have gotten an a but she was just so hot i would just look at her and not listen to what she was saying
Mannen is not as hard as everyone is making her seem. You obviously have to study, but her class is very interesting and she gives you helpeful study guides. Basically, read and use the study guide guarantees you an A.
Subject of Anthropology in general is boring. I loathed going to class basicly everything you need to know is in the text book she just goes over it class. just read the book on your time and youll do fine. but i gotta warn you ITS SOOO BORING!!!!
Has all the components that should make her a good teacher, but something is lacking. Not hard, but you do have to read the book for tests, and don't you dare speak during the lecture or she will freak out. I think she has pretty-girl complex and is afraid people aren't taking her seriously. It's weird that she has a major chip on her shoulder.
She's ok, i mean she's hot and all that, but her teaching could've been better. She teaches her stuff, but sometimes she tends to over do it. She can talk about one concept and use up too much time and tries to summarize all the other stuff you need in less than 2 minutes... She doesn't manage time very well. You need to read the book!
mannen is pretty chill & real easy to talk to. you just have to be serious bout her class to pass. it's not that hard, but if you read the book & study then you'll be fine. she gives extra credit too.
Great professor. Take this class! learned and liked a subject I had no interest in. Read and take notes to get an A. All it takes is a little effort, showing up, and participating. I did not find the class boring those who do probably just don't care about their education.
Many extra credits!
here's the thing, if you're a guy you'll love her, she'll give you an A if you give her some of your attention (give jokes, after class chats, personal goodbyes, just little things) but if you are a GIRL, you're screwed. this is a guy's class only sad to say, but i did like the subject.
read the book, nothing much from the lecture is on the test and also the videos she shows will also be on the test, so make sure to study that a little. besides that, the teacher herself, is a highly stereotypical blonde (even though she's not actually blonde) so if you could tolerate just that you're fine. The subject is very interesting.
its four tests drops one, then finals worth double, plus two assignments, ex. cred., her tests arent that hard dont just study terms but read between the lines..her current event and essay arent hard at all stright from book, nothing to research..i got an A,shes a little stern but not over the top.and shes pretty
Ms. Mannen is odd. She has this chipper attitude but approach her to ask to catch up on what you've missed and she suddenly becomes stern and coldly tells you to ask someone in class for notes and information. Outside of that odd flaw, the class is standard fare. I yawn quite often because it's just writing down notes from a presentation. Take her.
To me she was a nice teacher, loves to make jokes, you can't be late for class, more then three lates you can't do extra cedit. Her lectures arent just general topics, but you MUST read the book and study guide.
she is mean and her classes are sometimes boring....i feel asleep in her class a lot.
HOT LADY, BUT NOT AS HOT TEACHING THE SUBJECT. GIVES LOTS OF NOTES TO STUDY FOR AND SURPRISES YOU WITH QUESTIONS YOU NEVER HEARD SEEN BEFORE ON TEST!!!! GIVES EXTRA CREDIT... BUT IT BARELY HELPS YOUR GRADE STAY WHERE IT IS... HAHAHA.
THE REAL DEAL: she's nice, to everyone, she's cool, if you do your work, your not absent, and when you are absent you ask a CLASSMATE like the syllabus says then you won't have a problem and you'll most likely get at least a B. She's nice to both males and FEMALES, despite what some people think, i'm a chick and we got along just fine. she's really
nice, ask questions if you don't understand something, she won't bite your head off. I took her for Anthro 1 & 2, she does teach 2 better, i believe she's more passionate about it than 1, i took 1 during the winter, with a class full of ppl who acted like they were in middle school, and she was a lot more patient than most professors would've been
as a person, shes nice. but her class is difficult. lecture is all based on the book so read and do the study guide questions she gives you. tests are based on study guide q's. shes kind of confusing but offers lots of help outside of class. overall shes not a bad teacher to take.
all i gotta say is she is fine. her class is whatever. hard. just study and ur straight.
She is nice and helpful, but her class is very hard. When I took her class, only 1 or 2 student got A on each exam. Do not take her class if you are international student!!
Prof. Mannen is extremely passionate about Anthropology. This class is Women in Culture and Society, which talks about both men and women. She is strict about attendance and takes roll right on time. After 4 tardies, NO extra credit. READ the book and take notes from slides, and you'll be fine. She has a tendency to rephrase questions.
Mannen is not hard as long as you read the chapters and study whats on the study guide. The final is a comprehensive of all 16 chap. Her lectures are boring but besides that its a pretty easy class
I took anthro 11. this class is super easy, all you have to do is read the book. don't even bother paying attention in class or taking notes from the slides. its all in the book
You actually should take the notes from her powerpoints and in class because most of the test is on that..but it is an easy class. She is passionate about her work and is fair. Just do your work, Take Notes, and read the book and you'll do fine.
she is basically a not a good teacher that doesnt know how to teach. when the test can it confuses you ALOT most of the ppl failed in my class
Great teacher! Her lectures are very interesting and fun. Her assignments are easy and she is very helpful. I would definitely reccomend taking this class!
she is the worst techer i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!! i am an A student and got a C in her class...i hated to go to her class something about her voice made me go to sleep...her notes and lectuers are pointless because her tests are all about the book...she would get side tracked and would talk bout her life...i would not take her again ever!!!
I think she is a great teacher. The comments that others have said do not make that much sense. She offers so much extra credit & if you just listen to her lectures and pay attention in class, you are very likely to end up with an A in the class.
Mannen is a great teacher, she knows exactly what she's teaching and passionate about it. She's helpful, and willing to help you if you ask. She is very cheesy at times, however I'm not going to lie, but her voice is soothing, sort of made me want to fall asleep in class. Other than that, she's a great teacher.
Her test are crazy hard but the lectures are great. You have to study hard, so don't take this class if you are expecting an easy A. Overall, Good teacher
I took her twice, simply because I was accustomed to her assignments. Both classes were super boring since she talks at the class and rarely dialogues with it. Sometimes she'll even go the whole hour and a half without any conversation with the students, so drink a monster or some coffee. But that doesn't detract from the topics, which are very interesting. In both classes we had 4 multiple choice tests, 3 of which had 75 questions, and the final which was 100 questions, 2 essay assignments and a simple contract assignment (a paper you fill out promising to follow rules, and showing that you read the syllabus). It's an easy "A" if you read the book. If you take tests based on what she taught you during lectures or what you saw in videos, you'll get a "B" or "C."
Have to read and do the study guide to pass. Attendance is mandatory. Very interesting class. Hot professor. She takes a while to grade ur work sometimes. take her
Please please do not take her at least not for honors. Not an easy class if you dont have time to read 6 chapters for just one test. No homework so your grade is based on tests and essays that she hasn't given yet. I personally did not like her teaching style. she bored me although some lectures were interesting.but she has no sympathy!dnt take!
mannen is basically the definition of NOT a good teacher. She has her favorites and if your not one of them you could kiss your A/B good bye! She is not fair whatsoever she grades essays like your in an English class she has no sympathy and is overall rude. Her looks may be deceiving but just be careful. and just dont take this class with HER!
Class was interesting, but as a teacher she was quite boring. Also very strict with deadlines, which is totally respectable but is a pain in the a**. It may have been because she was pregnant, but she seemed very "moody" sometimes and played favorites. Grades were definitely a little unfair if you weren't one of the ones that she explicitly liked.
My least favorite teacher I have taken at ElCo. She strays off topic, she doesn't clarify, there is stuff on the test we don't even cover in class. There will be a 4 chap. test, yet we only cover 1 of those chapters in class. Did the whole study guide front and back and still got an F on the test. Nice lady, not great teacher.
Had her for Cultural Anth and I LOVED the class, just not her lectures. OR tests for that matter. She grades hard, her lectures are boring, and it's a good subject, just a terrible professor who teaches it.
enjoyed the class, she is pretty funny sometimes the lectures are interesting as are her stories. 4 multiple choice tests (lowest grade dropped) 1 final. all you need to do is answer all the study guide questions and you will be absolutely fine. the book is easy to read/understand. RECOMMEND.
Loved her class. Not hard if you pay attention and study. She even gives study guides and drops your lowest test score.
Tests are so hard
I took her for anthro 9 women culture/society. Easy class just due all the reading and the extra credit she assigns. You should be able to pass with atleast a B.
Tough but fair. Easy reading. Gives study guide. Uses syllabus extensively. Passionate. I recommend her highly. Even slept through part of the lectures Still got an A...
Kept what could have been a dull class interesting. Easy reading, but you need to read her test questions CAREFULLY, Not all material is in the text. Lots of video notes on primates. Loved it. Changing my major...
All of the test questions are straight from the reading. Her power points are boring and not very helpful. If it were not for the interesting subject matter it would have been horrible. Not a hard class if you keep up with the reading, the lowest test score is dropped, and there is extra credit with a max of 20 pts.
awesome proff. i took anth 6 and anth 1! class tests are 75 questions, you do need to study, but she is very helpful!! awesome lectures!
Tests straight from the book, even though tons of addt'l reading & videos. Bi-monthly assignmnts not corrected til semester over. Didn't know grades going into final. She forgot to update online classrm often. Info to study for test locked at wrong times. Not impressed with this prof. Unprofessional.
All you have to do to pass her tests is read the book. Study guides and lectures don't really help. Boring lectures but provides extra credit. If you read the book its an easy A.
I really liked Professor Mannen! She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the material. Her tests were fairly easy to pass as long as you payed attention in class and reviewed the textbook/study guides. She also gives extra credit!
In this anthropology online course, there were a lot of modules with plenty of material to read as well as videos to watch. The tests are from the textbook as well as the online modules. There were also a few discussions and an essay. Overall, this was a fine course, and I learned about different world cultures in a new perspective.
The most work I've had in an online class, and I take a lot of them. She's very clear. If you don't do an assignment, she will NOT allow you to turn it in late. Online exams are timed, and you cannot go back and forth between questions, which is not fair at all. She drops your lowest score in place of the final if you do well enough, however.
If you're looking for an easy A, turn back now. Well it is not that crazy but unless you're very good at reading a textbook word for word paying attention to every little detail, then the class will be hard. It is 4 75 question exams + a final. You get to drop your lowest scores. Half the class has dropped so far. However, she is definitely nice.
Had her for online and not going to lie, enjoyed the class very much. I think this is one of those classes that would be better for a lecture, saying that I enjoyed this class and found it pretty easy. Just read the notes provided and if you care for it, read the book. Make sure you do everything on time and you should be good.
Professor Mannen is really sweet and very passionate but gives way too much work for just a 3 unit class. We have 5 exams plus assignments and group work, which is far more than some 4 unit classes I've had. I suppose every professor is different. She can also be very vague and not clarify her assignments very well.
Professor Mannen 's powerpoints and modules were very helpful. The weekly discussions helped in becoming more engaged. Eveything to expect in the class was layed out clearly on the syllabus. She is a tough grader but would also give alot of feedback and explained why your response could have gotten a better grade so you would know for the future.
Professor Mannen is extremely helpful, nice, and passionate about the subject of anthropology. It's inspiring, really. The class wasn't too difficult, the homework is reasonable and the tests are fair. The textbook will help significantly with tests. I plan to take her again soon. Only complaint was the class got a bit disorganized near the end.
This class was not amusing. She goes on tangents and would laugh at her own jokes until the class laughed too. Her goal was to make her students major in anthro instead of focusing on the criteria being learned. Her tests don't have much to do with her lectures and the group projects were irrelevant to the course material.
More group work then I've ever had in college. It was almost like high school to be honest. The study guides don't really help and there's a lot of reading involved. Interesting material but not an easy A
Mannen is great! 3 exams (1 drop) + final exam, 2 group projects, current event essay, & a few easy assignments. READ the book (it's a must!) in conjunction with the study guide, attend lecture and take notes, and you will do well on all of the exams. The material is interesting and this was a really enjoyable class. Read and you'll do well!
Very Passionate about Anthro, offers a ton of extra credit, Read the book her lectures are not the best, she tells a lot of stories that relate to the topics but won't help you on the tests, and get ready to work with people on group projects Overall great teacher.
Literally the worst professor I've ever dealt with. Grading makes no sense. Does not answer questions on syllabus. LAZY LAZY LAZY. For reference I'm taking 3 other classes which I have A's in all of them.
Unprofessional. Takes it against your grade when you point out mistakes. Take any other teacher but this one.
I'm currently taking this class and this class is actually pretty boring. Her lectures are pointless really, and her exams have nothing to do with any of her lectures. Its basically all just learning the study guide for the exam by yourself because she goes off on random tangents and her powerpoints are not even notes. Theyre just one worded slides. Would not recommend.
Worst course ive ever taken combined with the worst professor ive ever had. Lectures make you feel like youre only there because you have to. Material is completely disengaging. Tests are unclear to study for, and the course is heavy with group work. Stay away from anthro11 because shes the only professor that teaches this class and "Religion, Magic, and Witchcraft" may sound interesting but in fact its the complete opposite based on the material she lectures off of.
This class sounded like it would be really cool but it was the exact opposite of all my expectations. The only time we talked about Salem witch trails and Wicca was the day before the final. So dont think you're gonna learn much about that. She never graded assignments from week 1. Tests were hard and long. No reviews. Harsh grading on assignments
Worst teacher I ever had. The test and exams locked at the wrong time. Lazy enough to copy & paste from previous semester. She spent zero effort to change the dates! The material used is not written by her. Bad powerpoint, textbook, & added links aren't on exams or final! Material disorganized, study-guide misleading, no grade until end.
Terrible professor by far. I took her online course and she never answered questions nor was she ever online. Please take someone else! Spare yourself. She doesn't care about her students.
She is very sweet as a person but I do not like the way she lectures. I fight to stay awake in that class and her tests are purely based on the textbook not her powerpoint slides. She does offer a lot of extra credit though.
Her class was ok fairly easy with little work but if you mess one up it will be costly. She has lost of EC which is good. Her class is both a mix of the concept and the vocabulary so be ready for both in the test. She's chill and will help you if you need anything also read the book it helps a lot and attend class cus her PowerPoint are important
She knows anthro like the back of her hand so she always has something to say about each topic and is able to give various examples. Attendance is important because she covers a lot in her lectures. She tells jokes to keep the class from being dull which really helps. Her syllabus and grading is straight forward. Offers lots of opportunities for EC
Truly cares about the students success. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about her field making lectures fun and easy to follow. Gets excited when her students participate in discussions, sometimes gets a little goofy. Just a few tests, low score dropped and there isnt a ton of HW so there is pleanty of time to read! SO READ! Lots of EC opportunity!
Mannen is a wonderful professor, though her lectures can be a little bit slow at times. Read each chapter a few times before each test. Lowest test grade is dropped. If you're worried about your assignment, speak to her and she will help. You will need to study quite a bit to get an A in this class. Some extra credit is offered.
horrible teacher ever dont take this course if you want a passing grade
Heavy work load each week, do no take this class if you are looking for the typical online class.
Easy class, not much work. 1 post per week, 4 tests (lowest dropped), 1 final, & E.C. offered. Only spent 2-3 hrs/wk on this class tops & it was during winter (4-5 wks). The only thing that will make this class hard is if you dont read directions. JUST FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS and its an easy A. & dont bother with the modules, just read the book.
She is a good teacher but she is a little scatter brained sometimes. I took her for an online class and it was the most unorganized thing ever. But, in the end, she is trying her best.
If you're interested in taking an amazing college level course with a great professor this is a great one. Super interesting.
Easy but you need to put in work to pass.
If you want to do well in this class you have to read the textbook because her lectures don't cover everything and she often goes on long story tangents. Otherwise that the class is fine. 3 tests, lowest is dropped, one paper, and final. She doesn't bother to learn your name :/ not my favorite prof but overall okay
Her discussion connected with the textbook topics but didnt make sense of the main concepts. her grading criteria was ridiculous. The entire class was okay but her expectations were a bit crazy.
Liked her class and her lectures. Short and interesting. You read a lot and her lectures are on her tests. Make sure to READ the textbook and you will PASS. You get graded on your tests and GROUP projects mostly, but there is one final research project that weighs a lot on your grades. It was an interesting class filled with interesting people...
The amount of work given was A LOT. This was an online course. She had so many strict guidelines for assignments. Discussion questions are HARD. They were like research papers. Each answer and each classmate response to her prompt questions had to be backed up by facts and works cited which came out so long they were like essays. Too much work!!
SO unorganized. Assignment dates and study guide are super unclear. Wants you to basically copy and paste the textbook in reflection assignments. Super lazy, does not respond to emails, grades never come out, very unclear feedback (littered with horrible and confusing spelling errors). This class is such a mess lol.
Scattered all over the place, does not upload modules on time as promised, reflection assignments are just a bunch of quotes. Despite there being strict guidelines when it comes to instructions, it was not bad. Lazy teacher in my opinion and not helpful. Feedback was okay but unclear, rarely responds to emails or ignore them.
Although I was a bit hesitant because of the past reviews, I do not regret taking this course rather one of the best courses I have taken so far. Professor mannen replies to emails quickly. She is willing to help by any means possible. There were four group discussions, 5 exams, and 4 parts to the semester projects which are all clear and doable!!
Her modules are very lecture heavy and her discussions are the worst. It's almost as if you are writing a research paper for each discussion and then having to respond to someone else's response doing more research. The project that she assigns is okay as long as you read the lectures and read the textbook. She does give extra credit which is nice.
Overall she does care about her students. 7 discussions post drops 2 and 4 exams drops the lowest grade. Just say attention and do exactly what she wants you to do and you'll pass. Her test are pretty heavy and you really have to read her notes to pass her test.
You have to commit your time to reading entire chapters within a few weeks, on top of all your existing work for other classes. The class discussions make you feel like you are writing an essay, she requires you research the chapters to provide 6 examples, completely different from everyone else. The semester project is time consuming. Use quizlet!
I like the topic but no open books for exams so be prepared to commit the material to memory. Has innumerable embedded materials/videos + textbook. The tough part is coming up w/ unique in-line citations & responses for other students' work. Hard enough doing my own work. Very rigid. Exams are strenuous & monitored. Info overload but learned a lot
Horrible with technology. Does NOT know how to use modules on canvas. very passive aggressive and makes it hard to ask questions. Definitely better anthro profs out there.
Please do not take this class with this professor, she is very unorganized and does everything last minute. Scattered all over the place, does not upload modules on time as promise and would honestly take this class with another professor that truly puts time into their students and wants them to succeed in the class.
Professor is very passionate about Anthropology, and assigns more busy work. I personally thought it was too much work than what was really necessary. I did it over the winter. There was also ALOT of group work.
Starting with the good
Starting with the good shes a really sweet teacher. Ok now the bad. This class is ultimately the most boring class ive ever taken and its not even fully in person. There is never energy in the stu
The class had strict grading policies. Every test, assignment, and discussion was graded harshly. There were no makeup tests, and late assignments were not accepted. Tests were particularly challenging, with no opportunity to make up for mistakes.
Well to start off, she expects us to do all the work. We had weekly discussion boards and presented them to the class. It felt like we were teaching the class. She is very picky where she gave my friend a 8/10 because she did not cite the book like she wants it in our discussion boards. Overall, I wanted it to be more engaging but was disappointed.
The class can be tough, but staying on top of the readings and assignments is key. The professor is particular, but using resources like Quizlet and unstuck AI alongside the textbook can really help. Overall, it's a manageable course if you're willing to put in the work.
Tests are near impossible if you don't spend hours pouring over every single part of the textbook. She doesn't prepare you in class for the exams AT ALL. Learned nothing from this class, lectures were deathly boring. Big waste of time. Takes points off on assignments if you don't opt to read your work out loud to the class 0/10
Just don't take this class with her if you actually want to learn something, it just seems like she gave us alot of busy work and in class didn't prepare us for exams at all i basically taught myself. I passed because it was easy as long as u stay on top of the work but the professor herself wasn't good at all.
Unclear on exceptions, she takes points of everything, i kept getting low scores like 28/50 or 14/25. I'd recommend taking anthropology at LACCD where the teachers are much easier and far less picky.
She lectures well the material is just boring. You do teamworks every week for hybrid class and then work on a semester project couple time a semester. Easy work Just boring material.
She was really passive aggressive about things. She got annoyed when students would ask questions about the projects she'd assign. The group work isn't about working together on stuff, so I'm not sure why she even put us into groups. Most of what was on the tests weren't discussed in class or even mentioned. She wasn't very organized either.
