Interesting teaching style; she likes students to use their minds rather than simply telling us everything--sometimes this can be a good thing, other times not so much. Her class is difficult. She cares about Physics and likes it when people come in for Office Hours for help.
People who were conceptually smart at this class still struggled on grasping her testing style - I think they eventually got it. Go to her office hours!! Dont spend your time by yourself trying to figure out problems at home alone... and you will be very effective in the class. I worked my tail off and got a B.
Oh my God this teacher was not helpful in the least! All class long she sat there and did nothing. The class was left to fend for itself. I could not have hated this class more. It's a CLASS it's supposed to be TAUGHT! I've never had a worst teacher! Good luck to all who dare enter.
She doesn't lecture. Does a lot of group discussions and white boarding. She does not provide a review for tests which are in essay format. Does not provide notes. Her worksheets are good but that's about it. Makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. I get A's in all my classes, hers a C. BARELY.
Not a traditional class. Other comments are correct. She does not teach. The students are given questions to figure out on their own. You basically get problems to solve and then put them on white boards and discuss the answers with the class. She doesn't teach until you have struggled for hours.
I like tough, challenging classes, but her class is not challenging,it's just a big mess! No feedback on homework,so you never know if you're doing things to her standards until the tests. Students are left to teach each other. She is approachable and makes time outside of class, but it would be nice if she made the same effort during class time.
Tough teacher but she makes herself avail to help you. I would reccommend her! Very structured class. If you pay attention and do work she is good
McClure is by far the worst instructor I've ever had. I am a straight A student and I fear I won't pass this class. She makes groups discuss things that she hasn't yet taught. I would tell anyone to NOT take this class. She does not know how to teach.
Took this class Spring semester 2013. Loved, loved, loved this class! It was challenging yes, but the material was absolutely fascinating to me. Angela is very helpful. She wants the students to not only pass the class but understand the material. She cares about the success of her students! I's look for her if I had to take another PHY class!
The class is pretty easy but the teacher prefers to let us talk in groups and teach each other instead of teaching us herself. She discusses topic instead of writing on the board so if you're a note taker this class may be tough. She also is a very tough grader when it comes to journals that you must write after every class.
She has been the absolute worst teacher i have ever had in my life. She thinks circle time is for college students. she sits on her phone during class almost half of the time. She expects you to know things before she teaches them. all of my class has expressed how lost they are. she is lazy and very poor attitude when you have questions
I really liked McClure she is a really good instructor. She does more talking then writing on the board, so to help you, you can record the lecture or take good notes. McClure is really helpful and approachable and she encourages you to ask questions. She makes herself very available, but when you do ask she kinda makes an example of your error.
I LOVED HER! She is one of the harder Professors, but she's FAIR!!! If you half-ass your work, then you're going to get a half-ass grade. She offers tons of office hours, and really tries to help you. She doesn't want you to memorize what she's telling you, she wants you to tell her what you understand from it! I would recommend her!!!!!!
I LOVED HER! She is one of the harder Professors, but she's FAIR!!! If you don't put in effort, she doesn't put in effort grading your work. She offers tons of office hours, and really tries to help you. She doesn't want you to memorize what she's telling you, she wants to to tell her what you understand from it! That's why there are journals.
Good teacher, lots of homework. She always has office hours and will even text for help. This class can be hard at times but anyone with half a brain can figure it out.
Very condescending when students ask questions when pertaining to class. The class would ask her what would be on the test and she would put completely different material on the test. I would recommend Dwain Desbian, he uses logic and common sense in his class.
USELESS as a teacher. Assigns groupwork in packets & a lot of hw & forces us to teach ourselves. If asked for help she is condescending and expects us to already know the information. Her grading contradicts what she says she expects. She puts her personal needs before students, ie cancelled a study session to meet with her personal trainer! AVOID!
Biggest advice: don't fight her. Adjust to her standards and way of speaking about basic physics concepts. Don't try to jump the gun about things you THINK you know about. Super nice if you ask for help, may come off as a little blunt sometimes. Write as much as you can and explain it very detailed in journals and exams and you will do great.
She makes the class harder than it needs to be. I had enough of sitting in it for 3-hours a day twice a week, so I decided to drop it. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone in any class level (PHY 101 or 111). Maybe I couldn't pass her class anyway, (I guess I'm not as smart as I thought) but please don't hurt my ego. She yells at nonpart--
The class is pretty much other students teaching and helping other students. She does not seem to be patient with students if they have questions. Also she does very minimal lecturing and expects the class to teach or explain the material to each other. If she was more patient and more concerned about the students this review would be different.
The material was difficult to understand because the students had to explain the content to other classmates. Lectures were very short and the classwork seemed to be tedious. When some students were having trouble understanding the material she seemed irritated.
Worst teacher ever
The class consisted entirely of students teaching other students the material. We would be given a worksheet, work on it as a group of four, then circle up and discuss it with the class. She offered little help or insight and was often on her phone. She would get frustrated when students wouldn't understand the material. Not a good educator at all.
She seemed to care more about her outside personal life than the class. She would look annoyed if our group didn't understand the topic the first or second time she explained it. Also the class teaches each other more than she teaches the class, what kind of style of teaching is that? She would make the class get in a circle and teach each other.
Expects the class to teach each other, will not show how to get the answer, will not tell you what the answer is but expects the right answer on the exam. Always on her cell phone during class, and if you ask her for help one must go to office hours because she will not help you during class. Recommend you take Physics at GCC or any other school.
The Journals and everything else she gives us have to be sooo detailed its too much, every detail has to be how she wants it otherwise you get marked down.
I went straight to PHY121 without any physics background. At first, I absolutely hated her teaching method of working in groups to figure out problems but then it grew on me. Its not a plug and chug class, you have to figure out what everything means. Don't take if you rely on formulas. She's an awesome teacher who knows what she's talking about.
Bad teacher. Although her sexiness can be distracting.
When I took this course , I had a previous course that really helped me be better prepared. When I had Angela as an instructor, she definitely would have a material ready for us to learn. She will present the information and its up to YOU to want to put time in and study the material. She showed me that you have to make sacrifices to be successful
Teacher is always on her cell-phone. All the harder questions are not gone over class. Too learn them you need to go to office hours. Makes you journal but wants too much on them that it becomes useless for notes.
This class was very tough, but very do able. Expect to spend a lot of time for this class, but overall very enjoyable class. Do your work and you will learn so much.
Great instructor.
If your looking for an easy class where you just show up and hear a lecture then this isn't the class for you. She gives out a lot of work, but it's not anything hard just time consuming. She makes you do journals, but they aren't that hard if you keep up on them. It really is not that bad of a class. I suck at physics and I have a solid A.
Angela is not that hard of a grader and does not expect much from people. The journals are time consuming and annoying (along with all homework), but they really aren't that hard and they are all she really expects of you. COKs are also not difficult and neither is the bookwork. If you show up and put forth at least some effort, its an easy A.
To pass this class all you have to do it your journals. COK's (test/projects) are super fun you get to build things and show it off in class. Discussion are really fun if everyone participates. This class is not hard, it's a really good hands on class were you do activities instead of powerpoints.
Good class
Not a tough instructor, it's all about participation. Expect to have homework every lecture time. The classwork is daily journal you will have to complete, some book work, and COK's. Alot of hands on and critical thinking.
You work in groups most of the time, but it is not that bad. Journals are an everyday thing, but all you do is write down what we did in class that day and what you learned. There is a lot of work, but it is a lot of easy work for the most part. She is a good teacher, all you have to do is pay attention and engage yourself.
McClure is great I highly recommend taking her class you can tell she cares for her students and wants them to all succeed. The tests arent that hard if you put effort into your homework and do journal youll be fine. Plus she is always there to help if you need it. I will defiantly take another course with her!
is a tough grader, but if you do your daily journal entries you should be fine. Missing a day or two can set you back, so I wouldn't recommend. Teaching method can be confusing from time to time, but could be worse. The classroom teaches itself by conducting hands on activites, followed by a SMALL LECTURE. A lot to do in alittle time/work piles up.
Great Teacher, she put things in a way to fully understand the concepts of physics. If you do your journals faithfully and don't slack you'll be fine. I notice a lot of students just copied each other homework and didnt fully understand the concepts and blame the teacher. I got a study buddy and took advantage of her office hours. Fun class.
The class consists of a lot of group activity, which is nice if you are more of a "hands on" learner. You are able to learn from others in the classroom and share your findings.
Angela is an amazing teacher and definitely vey helpful!
The class is very hands on with a focus on working together as a class in order to understand concepts instead of doing solo book work. I wouldn't say getting an A takes minimal work but as long as you put effort into your work and take decent notes you should come out with an A easy enough (no late night studying)
She is always on her phone she is terrible teacher. We don't even get to cover all the material for the class.
She is a great teacher. She doesn't teach the class as much because she wants her students to teach themselves and make them understand the criteria by themselves. However, she does help you understand the situations you are having problems with. Great teacher!
Gives a lot of homework and COKs on the same week, stressful, not enough time to complete and organize class work. Everything piles up the last 2-3weeks of the semester.
She is a good teacher. She focuses on a different teaching style and allows students to figure out the main points before she jumps into help.
She's a very good teacher who actually cares as long as you do. If you show up and actively try to learn the concepts while doing your journals everyday you'll have no problem passing. She makes the concepts overly simple and extremely easy to understand. She's always willing to help you learn but she will not give you answers.
We covered all the needed topics, but the class often dragged. I felt that the class moved far too slow and taught us the class like a middle school class. I felt bored more often than not. I appreciate that she was trying to take it slow to make sure the class would understand but it turned out to have the opposite affect.
A lot of assignments but easy if you don't procrastinate
This is a solid class. The homework can be a bit much some time, but as long as you show up and do your work you will get an A.
If your looking for a traditional power point lecture class this class isn't for you. Overall this is a good class. A lot of journal writing but for your own good.
She's a good teacher, she just has a different teaching style.
She doesnt teach much and is really big on group learning and problem solving, which was good at times! But this class is not for the lazy. She wants you to learn the material on a deep level, and wont spoon feed it to you. You will learn a lot outside of class. Put effort into your journals and make sense of them or else you're wasting your time.
Very hard class! But as long as the effort is put in you will see the benefits. Don't miss class, if you get miss one concept you will slowly start to go downhill. Tests are the biggest part of the grade throughout the class (70%!). Make sure you get a good study group, take advantage of the tutors, and attend her office hours. If asked she helps
This teacher is very group orientated if your group is clueless so will you. She rarely would lecture. She would briefly go over the problem in simple terms and then give you a difficult problem that is nothing like the one she explained. Also, she loves to assign homework that we didn't even have to do and you spend hours on it. BEWARE.
Angela is a difficult teacher and she even strives to get you to fail. I even noticed that many of the good reviews on Rate My Professor sound exactly like what she would say, that says a lot about her personality. Take physics at GCC, university, or take it if Dwain teaches it but never take Angela.
Angela is one of those special teachers who do not care about her students, I regret taking her, because she ruined my GPA and career plan. Very group orientated does little to no lectures. Very sexist towards men and she will pass any women in her class, because she wants more women in the sciences. If your a women you're good!
This teacher is disrespectful towards her students, she likes to throw all of our homework on the floor. She claims that "it is easier to pass out" if she throws it on the floor. She even shows a passion when she throws the paper all over the floor and watches us pick it up. She even said she was reported to the dean twice and the dean didn't care.
BEWARE! This teacher wants you to know the subject in intense detail and forces you to loose all of your previous knowledge on the subject just so you struggle. If your in her class just study that's all I can say.
Very difficult teacher it is possible to get a B but you will have to devote your soul to get that B
Rude teacher, but effective if you can struggle through her class.
Want to be a scholar and learn to think critically, then this is the teacher for you. If you want to foot stomp everything that your teacher says, then this isn't the class for you. Don't skip class, and do the only Homework required, which was journal writing and you will actually have a grasp on the topic. Great teacher who made me love science!
Don't let McClure's somewhat cavalier approach turn you off. She's a good teacher with grown-up expectations. The class leads discussions and she will step in when needed, but it is up to the students to THINK about key concepts and draw conclusions that are with reason. Don't be afraid to be wrong, you may just learn something.
By far the worst class ive taken at Estrella. Shes rude when you approach her to ask any questions, instead she makes you go look in your notes to figure it out on your own. She doesnt lecture as much but depends on the class to teach eachother. I go home and teach myself because if no one speaks during group discussions, then goodluck....
Highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. Angela will barely lecture. She'll make you and your group teach the lesson yourselves. So, if you and your group are struggling, you're screwed. On top of that, Exams (COKs as she calls it) are worth 70% of your grade. Be ready to basically live in the tutoring center.
Angela gives pretty clear lectures and the group studying was helpful. She might apologize for talking too much, but the longer lectures cleared up a lot. When you take the class, make sure you do every practice problem. A lot of the homework was conceptual, so it's easy to skip key problems that expand on the basics you learned in class.
She was rude every time I asked questions. Great class if you are only concentrating in her class and another couple through a semester. Get prepared to have an impact in your GPA. Be there. I can now say when you are really learning, it hurts.
Get ready to have Physics taught through her perspective. If physics isn't your strong suit then please find a new professor, if you don't get it she will belittle you first and then maybe try to help you second.
You will know physics inside and out by the end of the semester. This course is a wake up call, dedication required. If you actually want to know and understand the world I suggest this course. If all you want is an easy A, youre going to hate the decisions youve made in life.
Angela is a great professor. She grades a little on the tough side, but she cares that her students understand the material and really prepares you for the next step in your physics classes.
When I think of a teacher in science I want someone who is enthusiastic and helpful. Yeah no, thats not what this class is. Its using the internet and learning on your own. She might be great about knowing physics but, she is not a great teacher. Only take her as a last resort.
I would not want to take this class for a million dollars. Tough grade everything rests on tests and journals. She was also really strict on the journals. She was also really rude to me. She would yell at me in the middle of class.
She is a great teacher to push you, so if that's not what you're looking for, then don't take her class. That said, it's not a difficult class by any means. 99% of your grade is going to be how much effort you put into it. Knowledge-wise, she won't throw anything at you that you don't expect if you go to class and do the homework. You have to work.
Easily the lousiest assortment of assignments I've ever endured. If you have a full-time job or other 'hard' classes avoid this Professor, I mean that sincerely. 3 months is not enough time to comprehend this subject and complete all her tasks in any meaningful way. Journals(main), Book sets, Projects, and quizzes is what you can expect. Regret it.
The learning community was the greatest mistake i ever made! You love her or you hate her. I happened to love the way she teaches. She makes sure you understand physics. Grades are mostly based on your test scores and her tests were very difficult. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS!!! Don't be afraid to be wrong. Good luck!
Mcclure has defintely been one of the hardest teachers that I have ever had, but she is a good one. She comes off as a hard a$$ but I believe she is very caring and she makes it known that she is there for YOU. You have to show up and participate to pass. It's physics 101, an intro class, and she teaches it well.
Angela is not a good professor in the slightest. She picks her favorite students, then gives only those students A's. As for the others, she makes it seems like you're bothering her after questioning the red slashes she put throughout your test. Brilliant right? No. Avoid at all costs.
Probably the worst teacher I've encountered thus far at EMCC. She does not teach. She relies HEAVILY on the students to literally figure the subject out from scratch (not an ounce of tangible help from her). I felt like each day we were given just a bunch of random information trying to connect ideas, but nothing ever was helpful or intuitive.
has "tough girl" personality, studied physics for a long time but not good at teaching it,lectures are scrambled and not clear, will never give u yes or no answers. Even smart kids were confused and stressed. will have hw daily. overall does care for students but HAS to simplify lessons and be more clear. Will be kind if you tell her ur worries etc
She will give you a lot of work but will never go through it with you to solve it. will never give you an equation, will never help you with math or explain what math you need for anything. never helps
I didn't like the way she taught and she made it a point to make sure you went to all other resources before she helped you. I found this very annoying as I would like to get help when I ask for it. She also was not clear about what I got incorrect when I asked her why I got such a low grade on the tests. Something I would take into consideration.
I did well in this class, no thanks to McClure. She did not want to work with students and gave no effort to help. Was demeaning when you did get her to finally give you some sort of support. Luckily I had taken this class in high school, otherwise i would've been screwed. Avoid at all costs, there are lots of other great professors in the departme
Rude, demeaning, and childish. McClure will suggest you spend hours of time outside of class prepping and writing a journal (your journal will be graded) only to have your journal grade dictate a good chunk of your course grade. I got an A on every test, homework assignment, and project, journals were no help to my grade. Steer clear, take Wirth.
If you are lazy then this professor is not for you. She will not spoon feed you. She will give you the basic knowledge and it is up to you to critical think beyond it. Use your peers, they are the resources you should seek out first.
Mrs. McClure does not like to explain, teach, or help her students out in any way. She is a very demeaning person who has very little patience, if any, with her students asking her to clarify the material that she is going over during the lecture. In other words know the material prior to taking the course.
She was incredibly rude and threw markers at students and the whiteboard. The counseling services had to come in and speak to the class because of it and she had to apologize. She grades harshly and does not teach. You have to rely on outside sources to learn. DO NOT take this professor. She is so demeaning and leaves the class often to snack.
She grades extremely easily and is always willing to explain mistakes you made if you go ask her after class. Her grading scale is kind of wonky, but it makes it easier to get high grades in there. Genuinely, failing here means you didn't put any effort in outside of class.
This class had no lectures—just self-learning with minimal guidance. The professor claims to be "lenient," but in reality, she blames students for not figuring things out on their own. No textbook, harsh grading, and no real support. A very frustrating and unhelpful experience overall. For your sanity, it's better to take another physics professor.
This individual should not be a teacher, period. She's comically rude, condescending, and rigid. She gets stuck on semantic words in sentences and can't produce logical thoughts. She creatures her own terms and doesn't use a textbook. She spent the entire first day tauting her inflated ego and actually said EMCC leads the nation in physics!
Do not take this teacher for PHY 121. Would recommend taking physics with a different teacher or different college. She barely does any problems in class and makes you do other problems at home and she gets mad when we don't understand the material the next day.
She's a nice lady but she doesn't really teach you what you need to know on tests. And if you do the problems in a way that's not hers you won't get points. She isn't clear on what to do and there were times she graded stuff that she never even told us about. She's a tough grader for sure.
Honestly out of 3 years at CC, this has been my favorite professor. I will say to be successful you will need to be on top of your homework(which isn't really a lot). I would recommend making it to each lecture as it is very easy to get behind, however PHY121 isnt meant to be an easy class but McClure definitely makes it interesting and enjoyable.
Amazing teacher, her lectures are easy to understand.
She was alright for PHY121, I was able to pass with a low A but this semester I have struggled to understand any of the material. The exams did not cover any of the material we covered in class and we had to do coding assignments and then write them on the exam that she did not understand how to do. Maybe give her another semester or two to learn.
She is incredibly caring and passionate about physics, and I took her for 121 where I thought she was great. Unfortunately she hasn't taught this section in 3 years and it showed. While I may have succeeded, as a whole, the class struggled. It felt like she just struggled to communicate concepts in a way that was clear or beneficial to us.
Please be prepared to know what you are getting yourself into before taking this professor. She is very messy with her work and often gets lost on her lectures or doesn't know what she is doing. Get ready to spend most of your semester writing in your journal. If you miss one day, catching back up is extremely difficult. Everything is done her way!
Had her for 121 & 131. Decent person & average difficulty class, but she will NOT prepare you for future hurdles. In 121 she failed to teach us the full expected curriculum, and again in 131. Engineers who need to know angular momentum or alternating currents, you're out of luck here. Very inefficient use of class time, & grades confusingly.
Tough and not for the weak hearted. She doesn't 'lecture' but rather explains in short increments then has the expectation we solidify information in small groups on our own. Can seem impatient when trying to grasp difficult concepts. Worst habit? Talking in over-ANNOUNCIATION and always making us finish her.... SENTENCE.
McClure's class fits students who learn conceptually. If equations confuse you, her approach makes physics clearer. But you have to keep up with the homework and journal to do good. Good journals lead to strong understanding and helps you pass exams. She's also very approachable and willing to help with anything you ask questions about.
