She powers through the notes, does not stop to clarify often. I have never gotten above a C on her exams, she includes too many calculations and other problems for a one hour test.Some questions on the exams were not covered as much as needed, like i said she powers through the notes which arent good to begin with

I wouldn't recommend. She gives preclass notes and doesn't go over them, just makes you fill in the blanks. People would ask questions, and she would either blow them off, of try to hurry an explanation. Very very unclear. If you can read books and teach yourself you'll be ok. One plus is that she gives online quizzes that can improve your grade.

This woman does NOT know how to teach chemistry. She just expects you to understand, and does little to clarify herself in her rushed lectures. DO NOT take this class if you feel like passing easily. Be prepared to teach yourself.

Chemistry is hard and she does her best. Go to class! She gives you the basics, but you really need to practice the work outside of class. Plan on spending alot of time studying. Packs alot into the lectures, the book was very helpfull. Easy to approach and available after class and office hours.

actually teaches chem which is a nice change for a chemistry prof. people who complain probably sit in the back and talk the entire class period annoying everyone who is actually there to learn. She could have been more lenient with the final. good prof

Chemistry is not an easy class whoever you have, but Angie does a great job. She rushes through some material, but she has to because the course covers so much. Just practice the calculations a lot, go to class, do the homework/quizes (online) and ask her questions when needed. She responds almost immediately to emails or go to office hours.

Knows what shes talking about but...cannot teach chem. This is an intro class. I didn't learn very much. HARD for being an intro class.. i attended everyclass and still didnt pass. I read the book and did better. Her guided notes are usless.

Terrible prof!!! Do not take her!!!! She is so slow the first 2 weeks then just cranks things up and speeds through lectures. She fails to correct her mistakes because theres not enough time. Packs to much in lectures and failed to get back with me on questions. DO NOT TAKE HER, TERRIBLE PROF!!!!

If you like to keep your attendance to a minimum, take her - just make it to the daily quizzes, and then you can leave. She posts everything you need to know online, will let you makeup daily quizzes and exams with prior notice. Study the online notes and the online homework. This was what I did, I got a C.

Nice teacher, but goes really fast. Expects you to understand things first time around. Class seems hard during lecture, but puts most the easy stuff on the tests which are only 25 multiple choice questins. Go to pre-lab or else lab will just be a blur as to what you're supposed to do

I'm in her CHM 105 class at MMCC and I really like her. She is very nice and I think the class is very easy. If you print off the notes and keep up during class, this class is a breeze. I would definately suggest her if you have to take chemisty.

I don't know what to really think about this professor. She does make a lot of gaffes when teaching the material, but at least her intentions are good, and if you go to her office hours, she will help you a lot. Attendance is essentially mandatory, due to her quizzes. The exams aren't too bad, but the class isn't an easy A.

Ugh. Need to go to class because of quizzes which are given randomly. Never missing an in-class quiz, doing homework, & a good grade in lab can save your grade in this class. Tests are awful. Glad it is over..

She was pretty cool. Sometimes had some lame jokes, but thats ok. She doesn't take attendance but you will get screwed if you miss a few, the material is discussed and done pretty quickly. The labs are really easy though. Lectures are pretty boring most of the time, but stick with it.

Had Angie for 131/132. same exact class structure. She's implamenting scraqtch off inclass quises that are easy to cheat on if you have a friend next to you! Goes too fast with material but there's no way around that. 50 mins for a 25 Q exam is insane and should be changed. Gives pract probs to help study but key is posted in school.would recomend

I really liked her as a professor. You have to go to class every day or you'll be confused about the material, but if you go there is no reason you shouldn't get a good grade. She is willing to help if you ask her. I would recommend taking her for 131!

She really wants her students to do well, and is willing to help anytime/anyday. She did a lot of hands on activities.. I feel like she would be a better high school teacher than college teacher, regardless though she made the class much easier than it could've been. Go to class, take good notes, study for exams, and you will get an A!

She's a really good teacher. If you go to class and take notes you should be alright! The only thing that I didn't like was that the entire grade in the class is based off of your exams only... Not too hard of a class though! She is very nice.

Angie is a great teacher. Go to class, take notes, and you will do great in the class! Your grade is based off of 5 tests and a final, so it is important to do good on the tests. Although, if you study you will be perfectly fine.

Always willing to help any way she could and was very understanding! She was a very nice teacher and trys to find ways to make it more interesting. I was worried to take CHM but she made it easy to learn. Test are multiple choice.

I really liked Angie and would definitely recommend her for chem! Her lectures are easy to follow/understand and as long as you go to class and take notes, you should get a good grade. Lab is VERY easy and she gives a lot of online homework worth a ton of points.

Absolutely terrible. Never got anything out of attending lecture because she is always unclear and never takes the time to explain anything. Rushes throught material, further increasing the difficulty of the class.

really hard class. plan on studying all the time because the lecture doesn't help one bit. Also the reviews she gives you online and the owls youre required to do don't help for the exams at all. Theres nothing you can really do other than guess when it comes to studying the right stuff. GOOD LUCK. glad im done and passed.

She is a decent professor. She does tend to rush thru notes but in my experience in retaking the class with her as opposed to Lebeau she is miles and miles ahead of Lebeau in teaching ability. Angela is the best option for chm 132.

This class is VERY difficult and she tends to rush through material and make it more confusing than it needs to be. Plan on studying from the textbook and doing all of the OWLs to help your grade. So happy to be done with this class.

Once in a while she does cool demonstrations, but otherwise the lectures are painfully boring. The OWL homework is very time consuming, so be prepared to set aside a few hours a week.

She's a nice teacher and really wants you to suceed, as long as you come to class, take good notes you'll do good on her tests. BUT she doesnt teach whats on OWL, because whats on OWL is harder than her tests and it takes forever to do OWL. I would take it with her.

Teaches from the book. Notes are all hand written and take all lecture. She does do some helpful demos. OWLS will take up at least 3 hours a week to complete. Her examples in the notes are nothing like the OWL problems. I did not purchase the book and am currently maintaining an A- in the class only because OWLS counts as a test grade. 4 exams.

Wonderful teacher! One of the best I've ever had. The homework system sucks, but it's the same in every chem class so take it with her. She is very, helpful and makes the information very clear. Exams are very, very similar to the study guide. Loved her!

McGuirk does a great job with helping students. She does push a lot in a little amount of time, but you have to realize that is not her choice. She is always willing to help if you have any questions. Tutors are available, along with SI instructors! Exams are not too difficult, and the final is curved.

Angie is a great professor to have for Chemistry!! She's clear, direct, and is passionate about her subject. Lecture is very easy to follow, and she provides plenty of examples. Although attendance isn't mandatory, it's good to attend as much as possible as all the info is important for keeping up.

She doesn't know how to teach the material. She will ask for questions and then give students strange looks when questions are asked. I did very well in high school chem and did horribly in this and this class is pretty much a summary of high school. If you have her, change classes immediatly

Angela was a great teacher. As long as you showed up for class and paid attention, your grade would reflect that. She covered everything on tests in the notes. I hate chemistry and still did well. I would highly recommend this teacher.

She gives really helpful notes, but the class itself is difficult. She sometimes refers to the textbook but is not needed for success (but can be helpful). You'll get the grade you work for in this class, her exams are difficult but not impossible.

Angie is an incredible teacher! Unlike most teachers at CMU, you can tell she is extremely passionate about chemistry. She makes the lectures interesting, fun, and interactive. I would definitely take a course with her again if given the opportunity.

I loved this professor! She knew me by my name even when I didn't attend office hours. Class is really difficult if you don't know chemistry well and tests are hard, but she is always available after class and through email. VERY HELPFUL TEACHER. I love her and recommend her to everyone taking this class.

If you aren't familiar with chemistry this class will be very hard. For me this class was basically like my high school chem class. She is very helpful and you don't really need the book just the OWL code. OWL is horrible by the way.

Avoid choosing this teacher. She explains things well in class and it all makes sense while you're doing your homework. That is until you receive a test and wonder where the information came from. On top of that she actually told me that it was expected for students grades to continuously drop during the course of the semester.

DO NOT take this professor in the active learning classroom. This was the biggest waste of my time and I haven't learned a thing. She will give you a worksheet and expect you to know how to do it. Never lectured once. Extremely difficult if you can't teach yourself. She doesn't really care about how you're doing or the grades you get.

You have to teach yourself the material. I'm in her class that is in the active learning classroom and I learn nothing because she doesn't teach the material or even give examples of anything. I learn more from the TA that is in the class than the actual teacher. Don't take this class with her if you are going to be in the active learning classroom

This is more of a rant towards the class style than McGuirk herself. My class was the first to do Active Learning. McGuirk is basically required by the curriculum "Dont Lecture". We have to teach ourselves the material in small groups Chemistry being hard enough as it is, teaching ourselves is a nightmare. Low class avg. DO NOT TAKE ACTIVE LEARNING

My class was active learning if you have an active learning class RUN!!! She does not lecture you teach yourself the material in small groups when you ask her for help her response is "go look on blackboard" I am convinced she doesn't even know the material. Worst professor I have ever had I felt like I was doing her job for her.

She is a great chem prof! She breaks things down very simply and everything that is went over in class is on the tests. If you go to the lectures and keep up with your homework the class can be passed easily. I feel like a lot of people skip or don't study and then blame the teacher for their bad grades (a lot of freshman in the class).

Did "active learning" where she did not lecture. It was extremely hard. If you struggle with chemistry or have a hard time learning it independently, choose another professor. She is extremely sweet and ready to help though. Tests are pretty tough but she curves them. Lab is pretty easy.

She is, in general, a good professor. Her lectures are not the clearest, but if you attend SI sessions and get one-on-one time, you will be fine. She enjoys teaching, but, as this is a lecture class, is lecture based. Remember that this is a hard course, so get ready to work regardless of who you have.

She goes over a lot of examples in class, but it doesn't really help for the exam. Her exams are way harder than the examples we go over in class. 25 questions with 1 bonus question. The exams are out of 100 so basically each question is worth 4 points. good luck. Don't miss class, you get points for participation in mastering chem during lecture.

Good class with a few tests that require study hours. She teaches well though and goes over the types of problems well. She offers some extra credit but not much. Do the practice tests because they are really good and helpful as a test run so take them.

I had Angie for 131 and hated the class because of active learning. She was the only open lecture class this semester so I took her again and gained back a lot of respect. She is a good teacher but the class is difficult. Do all the extra credit in the beginning of the semester it is a life saver and gives you over 100% for a test grade.

Attendance is mandatory, with having Learning Catalytics every class. She knows what she's talking about, but she has no idea how to teach to students that aren't strong in the chemistry respect. In class practice is no help; the exams are NOTHING like it. Would not take again. Worked my butt off with no results to show.

She does a really good job of trying to explain things the best she can & is really helpful & nice. She's super willing to help. Exams are hard and she doesn't curve. But she curves the final. McGuirk is the best. I am terrible at chemistry but she made it manageable. The course itself is set up very good for students who put in the effort. Mcguirk is very down to earth and relates well to the plights of students. I wish i could take her for Organic Chemistry next year :(

I took McGuirk over the summer and it wasn't bad. 16 weeks crammed into 6 is tough, but worth it. She taught you exactly what you needed to know for the exams & was very available to her students. I'm pretty sure our overall grades were curved because my 91 was an A. The ACS final is awful, which is expected. Gen chem is boring, in general.

Learned more from the book than I did from her. The structure of her teaching is her biggest flaw. She skims over the hard stuff and spends days on the easy stuff. Also, if you ask her a question, she'll most likely give you an answer that is more confusing than the topic you're asking about.

Compared to other general chemistry teachers, she's incredible. Lectures are filled with examples based off what the homework will look like. CHM 131 and 132 are not easy classes so be ready for a challenge. Overall if you have to take CHM 131 or 132, take it with Angela.

She is a very nice professor who respects her students. Make sure you do the extra credit at the beginning of the semester, this will help you get an A. Exams are very easy and are EXACTLY like the practice tests she gives before the exam. Do the labs, homework, and "learning catalytics", you are guarenteed at least a B.

McGuirk is a good professor for CHM 132. She gives in class worksheets to give examples of concepts (they aren't for credit) and has many opportunities to earn points besides the exams.

you do worksheets in class that aren't for credit but it REALLY helps you learn, you get points for going to class, you have mastering chem homework(not a lot) but a lot of it is on google, and she gives you multiple extra credit opportunities. She's very nice and is a good teacher! If you go to office hours, she will definitely help you!

Angie was an amazing professor for me and was really helpful. Chem is hard to learn but she gives out tons of worksheets with examples and goes through them with you in class. You can earn extra credit on every masteringchemistry homework assignment and there are plenty of resources for studying when it comes time for the exam.

Angie was amazing! She gives you everything you need to pass the class with at least a B if you put in a little bit of effort. There are a ton of practice problems online for you to do which really help with the exams. Anybody who thinks her class is hard has not had a challenging teacher yet so I wouldn't listen to them.

Angie is an awesome teacher. I would take her again in a heartbeat for another class. Her lecture is always early in the morning, but totally worth it. Gives tons of extra credit in quizzes & on MasteringChemistry so make sure you do it. Worksheets are done in class, not for credit, but are SUPER helpful. Always answers questions & is very helpful.

I had Tomasik for 131 and McGuirk for 132, SHE WAS SO MUCH BETTER! I didn't have her for active learning but if you try in the class you will do well, even if you are not good at chemistry! It is normally an 8AM but it is worth it. She is very sweet and her tests are straightforward! She saves them so you can see what mistakes you actually made.

I took chm 131 two times at central. My second time was with Angie, and she made it sooo much easier than my first time around. I also took 132 with her as well. She gives a lot of examples to help make concepts clear. Also provides practice tests and extra worksheet examples as well! Very helpful professor!

Shes very nice and teaches some stuff well, but nearly all her homework she gives I have to teach myself because she doesn't describe how to solve the problems. She just gives us the basic concepts. And she spent more time on easy stuff than hard stuff. The homework was definitely way more stressful than it had to be.

Professor Mcguirk explains things more complicated than they have to be. Lectures are long &boring. But coming to class is mandatory because we have in class points almost everyday and a lab. McGuirk is very into class participation, so if you are usually half asleep at 8am, take it with a different prof. Her teaching style relies on you teaching most of the information to yourself, and the homework is crucial in order to know what you're doing on the exams.

This class is SO boring. It consisted of a ton of homework (online and worksheets), lectures, small labs, and four exams. However, it was an easy A. I got a C on an exam and got a 116% in the class. She offers extra credit at the end of the semester and going to class also gets you extra credit. She also drops your two lowest lab scores.

McGuirk was really hard to learn from as she moved at a fast pace and most of the content you have to teach yourself. Tests aren't hard but they are not easy either. Stay on track with your online homework, come to class for your daily participation points/labs and you can pass the class with an A even if you do bad on the exams.

I took chem in highschool, i found this class to be quite easy the way Angie taught it, i even skipped class 13 times, only reason i did not get a solid A was due to the adaptive follow up assignments i never did, im currently in her 132 class with an A.

If you do not have to take chemistry then i would recommend not doing it. Although she really cares about chemistry she has a lot of students. Shes definitely a hard grader and gives lots of homework. She does not take attendance but there is in class work and she does to much. Its a weeding out class for a reason. I switched my major because of it

I loved Angie! I took Tomasik for CHM131, but liked Angie's teaching style a lot more. She puts all of her notes on Prezi, so if you ever miss class, you can catch up on what you missed. She has an early 8am lecture, but it's worth it. Go to class to get in-class participation points, study regularly, & you should definitely be able to get an A.

Angie is an AMAZING person. She does talk to students almost like elementary school, but she is super caring and gives extra credit. The class itself is hard, and you do have to study. Although she's great, you still have to put in the work to get a decent grade. If you struggle with science, you will have to study for this class.

I love McGuirk and am devastated I won't have her next semester! She's super kind and very clear on what's required. That being said, show up!! Attendance is MANDATORY! Get ready for assignments outside of class that are super annoying, but they do genuinely help reinforce the material. Exams are multi-choice. There's also plenty of extra credit.

Very tough class, I would not recommend if you aren't the best at chemistry. very fast lectures, gets upset if you start packing up with 2 minutes left of class. Will email if your confused and she'll just respond with look at syllabus. Not helpful at all.

For the lab UP credit I would recommend to take this class. It is super easy to get a good grade in. She teaches the class slow and as if you've never had chem previously. It is nice that the class is out of so many points because then if you do poorly on exams it doesn't really matter. You also get extra credit everyday at class.

McGuirk is alright but I wouldn't take her again. I don't think she really has very deep knowledge of Chemistry & being a Biochem major that is what I am looking for. If you are a Chem wiz this class is easy and just intro stuff. Exams can be tricky because they are only 25 Qs and if you miss only a few it can harm your overall grade. An "A" is 94%

If you're not a STEM major, I seriously recommend taking this class! I took chemistry in high school, and we did not go over anything I didn't learn in HS. She understands that the people in 101 aren't necessarily science people, so she does a really good job of helping people learn the information. Labs are really simple and easy.

CHM131 was really great. Angie truly cares about students and is genuinely nice. 5 exams, all multi-choice. Lots of online assignments that get progressively more challenging as the semester goes on. If there is an SI session, go! As much as I loved Angie, it was nice to have someone else re-explain the material (because God knows I didn't read).

Having 2 years of Chemistry prior to this class was the only thing that saved me. Angie made simple topics confusing and I found myself resorting back to my old notes everyday instead of what she provided. The tests were NOT reflective of what we learned in class, always left them feeling like I failed.

Very difficult to follow, made learning material much more confusing than it should be and offered very little help on better explanations. Lectures were very confusing and hard to follow. Offered no extra credit other than the first week of school, which by the end doesn't help much. Did not help students study at all for the final NATIONAL exam.

She is amazing! I personally did not use my textbook in this class because Angie posts a lot of great content and materials on blackboard that I used to study instead. And being general chemistry, there are hundreds of outlets you can use online. She is very sweet and understanding. Overall wonderful professor.

She was alright. I had difficulty receiving responses from emails to her. Though the lectures cover what is on the test, the homework doesn't correlate very well at all. The workshops are useful though, and they help you learn the material. The final exam is curved too.

But when you are in class prepare to jump around a lot and she will not highlight large concepts needed to know. A lot of it is spent doing easier math problems and being tested on the hard ones. Not a useful professor at all. I went to her office hours and when I asked questions she was annoyed that I needed help or would defer me to someone else. Chemistry is a difficult subject for many students and although I do understand that my class was probably meant as a weeder course, I do not think a professor should ignore students.

There is something off about her. This chemistry is so easy that I could have taught this class after taking high school chemistry, yet she somehow makes it confusing for all of her students. Lecture every day, she goes through the slideshow really fast so just listen, take notes later (she posts the slideshow). FOLLOW SIGNIFICANT FIGURES RULES! The T.A. took off so many points grading the labs because of them. Do EVERY online assignment, they really help. In the end she makes it easy to follow with the work book that she wrote.

Angie is a wonderful lady, but not the best professor. By far my hardest class. She makes concepts way more confusing than they need to be during lecture, but in workshop everything sort of clicks better- so you need to attend. Super sweet, but lots of homework and the exams are pretty terrible. Her review packet doesnt help on exams but still do!

The concepts are easy. However, she assigns pre-lecture assignments before every lecture that involve material we have not covered. It is frustrating to have to do many assignments on subjects I havent learned. The online assignments are also unnecessarily time consuming. Its an easy A with all the EC, but its frustrating at times.

Angie was a great chem professor. She has clear presentations. Pay attention in the 50-minute lecture, a lot of information is thrown at you!! She cares and wants you to learn the material and she does best with 200 person lecture halls. Offers extra credit. The best thing to do in this class is practice problems and stay on top of Mastering Chem.

Angie was a great professor and acknowledged that people taking a class called "Armchair Chemistry" probably weren't there because they love science. If you attend the lectures and do all the homework it is an easy A. Angie is an okay professor. She doesn't do much more than read the powerpoint slides and then show how to do problems on the board. Ms. McGuirk is pretty sweet. This class was very hard for me, but I pulled off an A-. I do think a lot of that is from my prior chem knowledge though. The labs were extremely hard for me and the tests aren't much better. The lectures help a little but I found myself reading the textbook over and over. The only assignments are easy though. SI helps

Possibly the worst professor I have ever had. Hardly went over important material and the tests were not reflective over anything we did in class. Workshop was an absolute waste of time and only felt like busy work. Only gave extra credit at the beginning of the semester and it doesnt help your final grade much. Do not take this class.

Okay I actually liked Angie a lot. She handled the transition from in-person classes to online very well and made it so we could still complete labs. Good class for non-chem majors. Angie is kind and is enthusiastic about the subject. A lot of the grade comes from participation which comes with extra credit, so attendance is mandatory. there's a good amount of homework but it's all on Quizlet for the most part. Angie is great! I am not good at chem at all, but this class was super easy. You do a lecture for part of the class then do the lab. Labs were always easy. You do have a bit of homework each week including pre-labs, labs if they aren't done and online homework. She is always willing to help. I didn't buy the textbook, but you need the lab book.

I liked her. It was an early class (8am), but worth it. She gave guided notes and practice problems in class, which were useful. Weekly homework and about 4 tests, all of which I thought were fair.
