excellent teacher.. if your trying to pass math 90, she is the teacher you would want to take.. :)you DONT use your math book at all so DONT waste $180..really! test's and quizes are easy compared to teachers like alcantra! lol..
I'm horrible at math, and my 3rd time taking Math90 was with Dr. Pignotti. I finally passed, and with a B, because she is so clear with her explanations, and she goes at a very manageable pace. Hw is online, but she gives you enough time to complete it and will extend deadlines if the majority the of class is confused. Bummed she doesn't teach 101!
she is very nice but she doesn't know how to teach.you would feel like you know all the stuff but when you would take test than you won't know anything. TESTs are really hard, there is totally different things in the test than what she teaches. DONT TAKE HER AT All. even if you would put more afford than still you wont get a good grade...
For Stats, I wouldn't recommend her. I was able to pass with an A but simply because math comes incredibly easy to me. Half the time she kept mixing information up in lecture so after awhile it got to be tedious just trying to keep up. If you take her, I advise doing the homework repeatedly and getting any needed help ASAP.
Math 90 is a difficult class. I took her and struggled but she is very helpful. She's very professional and doesn't talk about her personal life, which I loved. I would recommend her and take her again!
Pignotti was an okay professor. It's a hard class to begin with, but she spent too much time reviewing math 70 material. She was gone for a week when I had her, and that made our class fall far behind all the other math 90's. She gets confused sometimes, and you have to point out her mistakes. Definetly made me not want to take Stats with her.
Dr.Pignotti is a very good and caring teacher. she is clear and stays with the pace of the students. if you do the homework and attend class you will do fine. i got a B in the class with moderate effort.
I would highly recommend taking math 90 with her. She's very helpful and clear. She will focused on Math 70, but it's all worth it. Especially, if you got a really sucky professor for math70. Math90 is hard, so get additional help. Teacher cant do all the work for you. She extends the homework, if she's aware of the confussion. Great professor.
The very first week I went to her office to ask her questions, she told me I should retake 70. I left her office in tears! I don't think she has faith in herself let alone her students which can make for a disasterous semester. I passed with an 87% but only because of my hard work and determination. I wanted to like her but she made it difficult.
I struggled a bit with this class. she is sweet but had trouble understanding the material after the midterm. The final was super difficult. even though I passed, i won't be taking her stats class for the sake of my grade.
This was my first math class that I had taken in a little while so I was a little rusty. The professor, in my opinion, did not know haow to teach very well. She seems to be very nice but I think she is book smart, not common sense smart. I eneded up dropping her class and will never take another one with her. Her tests were difficult also.
Does not offer help when you don't understand something, she claims she is NOT a tutor. She missed @ 7 classes and had a replacement for 2 - we missed over a week of instruction.
She was the worst professor I have had at MJC. first week she did not know what she was doing having to refer back to the book. assigns problems she doesn't even know answers too. gets her own problems wrong at times and laughs as if it is ok to get them wrong. then you get them right on exam and marks them wrong because you didn't do it algebraic
You rarely use the textbook and it isnt much useful. Her quizzes are open book and notes. Her exams are kind of hard if you dont study. the problems in class are simple compared to her exam questions. Her class is easy to me but many people are struggling or doing poorly.
She does not teach! She just makes power point slides she gets from the textbook and literally just reads them back to us, even her examples are the ones that are in the text. Horrible teacher
Useless. Does not teach her class. Refers only to book, and uses overhead projections or writes on the board. Practices and very limited handouts do not really prepare you for what's on the tests. Gets her own problems wrong. Grades down for things she can't find instead of just looking for them. Makes it hard to WANT to learn in her class.
I love this class. Dr, Pignotti is a very nice professor who will cut you some slack if you are having a hard time. She will tutor you outside of class in her office. Her exams are not that hard and her quizzes are open book. The homework is easy and she is great at answering questions in class. The in class studies are helpful. I recommend her!!
DO NOT DO IT. Her lectures and her quizzes/tests do not match up AT ALL. I went to the Student Instructor Sessions almost every week, and I still was not able to pass her quizzes and tests. And I am a straight A student otherwise. Save yourself the trouble and take an online class. MJC Stats instructors in general are not worth your time.
Very helpful with class work and can answer your questions. Her quiz's are open note. Her tests are challenging and her final in my opinion was pretty brutal. With one that specifically said, "Even though you have never done a problem like this, you have all the tools necessary to figure this out". Yeah not cool. But i would recommend her.
Regarding hybrid Math 70: She was not very clear about what was on the exams. Also, she required very in depth work shown for credit. The final exam didn't resemble any other exams; I doubt she made it herself. However, I would still take the class, because it was easy. The first exam is online, along with quizzes, so you can booth your grade up.
Horrible Teacher. Her homework's and lectures don't match her quizzes and tests. Don't take her class.
A really nice teacher. She does what she can to help you pass her class. She will answer any questions you have for her in regards to the homework. Not really a need for the math book however it is a nice study aid. If you do your homework and ask questions when you are stuck you should pass the class no problem. Note, there is a lot of homework.
I took this class as a hybrid which was nice. But she said textbook was required when we did not use it at all. All homework was online which I liked. But her exams did not match with homework or quizzes. She is a very sweet lady but very "airheaded". I want to recommend her but she is not the greatest.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. I got 100's on the homework that was online and then failed every test in class because they didn't match. Never used the text book. Talked to the counselor when I knew I was failing and she told me to just stop going and take another teacher next semester. Counselor didn't seemed surprised. Do not take!!!!
I don't see why people are complaining, I thought this teacher was easy as long as you show up, do the work/homework. And just because the homework wasn't exactly like the exams and tests is NOT a reason for you to fail. Before every exam she gave a practice test and SG that had similar questions and did the with you. Not the most forward but good.
She doesn't prepare you well enough for the tests at all and she relies on you to learn how to use your calculator based on mymathlab. Whenever you need to use your calculator mymathlab says "use technology" and then doesn't explain how to use it. This class should not be as difficult as she makes it.
I believe she is a GREAT prof. The people that complain about her are those that do not make a true effort to get an A. I found that most that did not do well in her class, didn't go to tutoring or office hours or even completed their hw. Think of the hw as a way to HELP your grade if you do it. You need to put in work if you want to do well.
DONT TAKE HER, she is very unclear . most of the time doesn't get through the whole lectures and then expects you to learn the material yourself from doing "extra practice". she doesn't prepare you enough for tests and quizzes because we would fall "behind" if we took more time on each lesson. Is never clear and always seems lost during lectures.
Dr. Pignotti is very well organized. Math 90 is a hard subject so you really need to study a lot in order to pass. Complete the homework every day and ask questions if you need help. She is very helpful and she is super nice!!
Do not buy the hardcover textbook. Seriously you will never use it. Pignotti is a delight. She is a very helpful professor. Her tests and quizzes are hard to pass and they make up the majority of your grade, so be prepared to do a lot of outside reading. Ask questions in class, and do the homework prior to quizzes and tests.
Extremely hard statistics class. I worked my butt off and barely scraped by with a "C". You must attend class or will be lost. We started out with 44 students and ended up with 16, if that tells you anything. She likes to teach the theory before showing you the problem, which makes it confusing. She is very strict and you must be very punctual.
They said giving labor was the hardest thing to do... well this professor makes makes Math 90 even tougher than that! She complicates everything in the class and most of time gets her own answers wrong. Not helpful.
I was scared/nervous to meet Mrs. Pignotti after reading the reviews on here. I am horrible at math and I did not want to take this course. HOWEVER, Mrs. Pignotti was sooo nice and she LOVES when people ask questions. Her homework is online and you can redo questions until you get a 100%(click "similar questions"). STUDY & ASK QUESTIONS!
I took a stats class with her and at first I was nervous because I read all the bad reviews, we started off with about 30 students and by the end it dropped to about 12-15. The class itself is hard but she is very helpful. I didn't take advantage of the office hours at first but once I did I started to pass easily, she's nice and awesome!
When teaching class gets confused often. The tests or quizzes are completely different from homework or review sheet. I've taken classes at a university and it was much more clear elsewhere. Would not recommend, make it your last option if you are not willing to take next semester.
Took Pignotti despite the harsh reviews. I WAS a straight A student & determined to pass this class. Unfortunately, I received a D. I knew Stats would be difficult, so YES, I did take tutoring & went into her office for additional help. Don't feel that she cares for students. Lectures were confusing & tests didn't match review. Try another teacher.
If you struggle with math, I do not recommend taking it with this Professor. She does not explain things in ways that are easy to understand and often rushes through things. When you ask her a question, after she has answered it and you still try to talk to her she just kind of nods you off and stops listening. Way better math professors out there!
Her lectures were boring, unclear examples, and seemingly unrealistic expectations. She constantly makes errors. This class was a major challenge for me simply because of the professor. I do not recommend taking it with this Professor.
Horrible teaching. She does not know how to break down problem solving. Lack of connection with students.
I recently took this Prof. for Stats. During lecture, she would spend the entire class covering problems that did not even appear on the tests. I felt confident in class and in the online homework, and knew how to complete problems, however the tests were completely different than what you would think you should study.
She gives out way too many handouts that you can practically drown in them. The problem is she doesn't know how to simplify/break down her examples so she over explains concepts and it becomes really diff to understand. She's super nice but her teaching methods make simple lessons hard to understand. 3 Tests/Final make up ^ majority of your grade.
Uses MyMathLab, she assigns a lot of homework. The deadlines are unclear.
If another professor is available take another. She claims she has a doctoral degree in who knows what but it is irrelevant to class. Students sometimes correct her. Goes through lectures Way to quick and doesn't explain anything in detail. If u ask how to do a problem, she will do it her self on board and will pretty much say that's how you do it
By far the worst professor I've had in college! Her lectures are hard to understand and she is not very good at explaining things. Her exams are worth 80% of your grade, so even if you get A's on homework, labs and quizzes, if you do not do well on exams you will fail. I highly recommend you not take Stats with this professor.
Pignotti is an extremely fair and knowledgeable professor. Yes the exams are worth a good chunk of your grade- so study! Don't expect your homework scores to help pull your grade up much, think of them as practice for the exams. Truly engaging lectures and real world problems, keep an open mind with her cool deconstructed approach to math!
She over-explained a lot of things and made lectures really confusing. Sometimes she would have to backtrack and correct herself during the lecture. I felt like I was teaching myself how to do things a lot of the times. I don't recommend her class unless you're willing to learn mostly on your own.
I was hesitant in taking a class considering her past ratings, but to a pleasant surprise I found her to be a great professor. This is a great professor to take if you're independent and have self-discipline. Don't buy the textbook (not needed if you buy the MyMathLab code). She's not a great lecturer, but if you like to learn solo, this is great.
She is a nice/sweet person but damn you have to put in a lot of effort to get her to simplify concepts. She over explains and gives you 3,000 handouts as examples. I studied those religiously and was able to get a B after working my ass off. Tests are the majority of your grade. Make friends and write down how to do problems step by step is my adv
If you want to be confused the whole semester, take this class. She gets too excited about teaching Stats because she loves it so much& she just assumes everyone is on the same level as her. Which obviously we aren't since we are taking the class. She only shows you one way to do a problem and it is her preferred way, and doesn't give you diff ways
Too test heavy, wish she would give out study guides for the tests. Not a great lecturer and messes up from time to time. She loves questions but you might end up more confused then before you asked it. I would not recommend this class to someone who isn't too great at math to begin with. I did alright because the material was familiar.
Exams are 60% of your grade. Make sure you study hard because she doesn't give out study guides or let you use cheat sheets. Half of the stuff she tells you to study for aren't even on the exam. Over explains things that its difficult. she expects you to know everything because it's math 90. Although, she is really nice and will try to help you.
The usual. Friendly and is very helpful and available in a one-on-one basis. If you have questions about any of the material, wait to ask privately because in front of class tends to go off topic. Get ready to do a lot of independent studying on My MathLab as the final exam is worth 60%.
Dr. Pignotti is a fine professor, she's clear on what is needed to pass the class and will not sugar coat. You will need to study A LOT, forming a study group helped me. Homework is online & there's option to show how to solve step by step; it's a lot but helps prep for the exams. YOU will need to put in the hours and effort to pass this class.
I was concerned about taking Dr. Pignotti because of these reviews. But I think people have been harsh in their analysis of her. She is very pleasant, explains things clearly, gives lots of handouts to help you, and makes herself as available as she can. She's not perfect, but she's a very decent professor. Stats is hard. Read the textbook.
She rambles a lot. If youre trying to ask a question be ready for it to be answered in 10 minutes on how to do it. She tends to call people out even if they dont know the answer. Her personality matches with only select few kind of people.
She's very bad teacher as I have never had. She's very kind in speaking but not sincere to teach students for their successfully development of statistics and grades. She's so helpless instructor and she should be learnt more of how to teach students successfully.
It is not an good instructor as I thought. You have to learn by yourself from every source. She doesn't prepare for her teaching materials properly and she always mixes up and confuses students. I'm really disappointed. It is just waist of time, money & loose my intention too. College inspector should assess her teaching and more training for her.
If you really want to improve your stat and save your best grade, do not take her class. You will be disappointed for sure. She just a sort of teacher that wants her power and just want salary no matter ethical sense to the students. Many of her students are tearing inside while she is smiling. She's selfish & just pretend to be smart & good person
She explains not clear and she just teaches a lot the easy parts. But she likes to go fast on the hard part and sometimes she skips the hard parts instead of trying to guide students more exercises to the best understanding of her lectures. When students ask her, she just chooses the easy one to answer and likes to forget to reply to the hard one.
I recommend you don't take her class if you want to get the best grade. She always confuses you and she can't read the students' understanding. There are not many exercises, and they are not similar to the tests at all. She teaches one thing and tests another thing to confuse and trick students rather than help students to improve their knowledge.
It is hardly to grasp lectures from her. I have to learn from many sources like google, you tube, and pearson. When I ask her the hard questions , she just wait for other student ask her a new question and then she just ignored mine and jump to answer the easier questions. She's not helpful for me and I wonder I'm at risk to take her class.
Would not take again. Never gets to the point of the lecture. She is kind and nice, but her teaching methods need help.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS FOR PETES SAKE. All of class period will be going over 2 problems. Every study guide or paper she writes will have a plethora of errors on them. She's quite nice, but comes unprepared and has no clear direction each day of lecture. Grading on tests is brutal and makes you show every little detail of work. Worst prof ev
Dr. Pignotti's a little difficult, but it is a math class for STEM. I wouldn't take her again. She can be a really tough grader, even over the smallest things. In addition, you don't want to skip class, or she'll have a talk with you, & she'll most likely drop you. She's nice though? Like, really nice. Just a tough professor.
horrible teacher, does not know course material for pre calculus herself
Youll never be able to pass it with A or B
She isn't nearly as bad as it says. In my opinion her main problem is that she doesn't break down the difficult concepts quite enough. She tends to assume you know whats happening in the in-between steps. If you ask she does a great job but someones going to have to ask. If you're already solid in math shes a good teacher.
She seems very unsure about what she's teaching, but that's just the way she talks. If you talk with her more, you can tell that she really knows the content, even if she's not so good at explaining it.
Took this Calculus 1 course after taking AP Calculus in high school and passing the ap exam with a 3 and still struggled immensely. Skips over difficult topics with few examples. Constantly makes many mistakes in class that are simple and should not be made.
This teacher does not know any of the material herself, I took her help class Math181 and she would spend half of the class period to go over a problem and then get it wrong at the end. She also seems very unprepared for the class every day and it seems like the students are more prepared than she is, I passed my high school class with a 95%.
The worst professor I have ever had. Started off the class bragging that half her last class failed. Spends all lecture doing a couple problems, makes lots of mistakes that the students have to correct. Doesn't know what she's doing. Won't curve and 2/3 of my class is failing. She's nice but a god awful teacher. Take the night class instead.
Professor Pignotti is so sweet and helpful! At times it may be necessary to study on your own or practice more problems, but she goes over all the basics in class. The class is a little hard, but worth it!
This class is difficult even if you feel that you're good at math you'll find it difficult. There were classmates of mine who took calculus in high school just to drop this class. There is no room to breathe test determine your grade. Beware!!!! Don't say no one warned you.
More than half of the class failed (11/18) the second test (test 1 was worse). She sat there and tried to tell everyone that we need to retake Pre-Calc in order to get a better basis for Calc. I think if more than half of the class failed and only 2/18 people scored in the A/B range then you hold fault or is that just me? I dont recommend her.
I wish I could give pignotti a good review bc she is a sweet person, but as a proffesor shes the opposite. During her lectures she would get lost & ask us what to do next, I wouldn't learn anything from her lectures. I taught myself calc from YT videos. Gave us sooo much HW, 5 assignments due each night. More than half the class had Fs. DONT TAKE.
HORRIBLE. Made it seem like it was our fault for failing the tests, told us to go back to precalc & then come back to take calc 1. More than half of the class failed her tests. Lots of HW, couldnt keep up. Doesnt lecture properly, she gets lost then moves onto another problem. Didn't learn anything from her, had to teach myself & go to tutoring.
I do not think that Pignotti deserves so low a rating. That being said, she seems to give very difficult tests especially compared to the homework (which is much more basic.) She does provide "study guides" but they are not very helpful since it is not specified how you do them. Again, that being said, she is nice and will help you a bit.
I looked at reviews before taking Pignotti I regret not listening to any of them, now Im a semester behind. She is horrible, told us we need to go back to HS algebra. She moves onto another problem before finishing one. Barely lectures, you need to teach yourself. You will be stressing if you take her. Cant believe she is still teaching. DONT TAKE
Ms. Pignotti's Math 134 class is far easier than other reviews have made it seem. She is very sweet, and her teaching style is very straightforward while making difficult concepts easy to understand. I never had to use her office hours due to how clear her lectures were. Lots of handouts are given, but they help immensely with preparing for exams.
Her lectures dont help at all. The textbook was on Pearson and I had to teach myself from the examples on there. She doesnt go over questions in class because she doesnt have time. And the whole class is usually always failing. She blames the class instead of herself.. DONT take her if you want to pass!
Often seems as she is confused on the material herself. When asked questions in class she does not understand what is being asked. Tests are everything. I am normally good with math, however, I feel as if I am teaching myself through this course.
Professor Pignotti was my first Math Professor at MJC and I did not have a good experience in her class. She does not do a good job explaining the math concepts and would often recommend you to take a prerequisite math course even if it is not needed. There are many more flaws, but one thing is to always be aware for any last minute changes.
Professor Pignotti is a great professor, if you plan to do it right. She answers all questions clearly. Her lectures are solid and explain everything clearly. When you do your homework on time or before she is more lenient on exams, but if you're never at class and don't do your homework you're going to have trouble.
Professor Pignotti is a great professor, long as you do the work. You definitely need to show up to all meetings and plan time to do the work. Long as you try and do the work you should be fine. She is always willing to help.
I chose to take Professor Pignotti's Statistics course because it was hybrid. We had a few homework assignments due every week that were extremely helpful to understanding the material. In some of the tests she allowed us to bring a notecard that would help us. The quizzes in this course were all online.
A lot of homework but can be redone with 10% off later during test review time, tests are tough but also have extra credit available. Very tough class if first math class
She doesnt know what shes tecahing often and she doesnt really take the time to help
Pignotti was a horrible first experience with a college math professor. I took her trigonometry class, and she had no clue about what she was teaching. She would get confused trying to work through her own notes. Nothing on the study guides were on the exams, the exam problems consisted of things we were barely taught. She barely emailed back.
DO NOT take this professor by any means! Her lectures are LONG and they suck! I felt like I was basically teaching myself the material because she did not know how teach so I dropped the class. When trying to ask for her help or asking questions she makes you feel dumb and belittles you. Not worth your time just take another professor.
The 112 class has a support 33 class that is only used as time to continue the work of 112 because there's “no time”. If you want actual help, you won't get it from 33. The lectures are 2hrs, there's 4 exams w/the final. HW dates can be inconsistent. I don't feel like I'm learning properly. Only take the class if you have time to study, please.
She's a very admirable professor who provides helpful feedback and is overall really kind. However, her teaching method could be more effective, and her support class doesn't offer much assistance. I often end up teaching myself most of the material. If you take this class, be prepared to study on your own and consider getting a tutor.
she seemed as if she didn't know what she was doing, asking her questions didn't even make any sense she made me more confused with her answers. used website called Aleks that she said would teach us more than her. she just goes through the packet and does it herself and doesn't really stop to explain things very well overall extremely hard class
I took her hybrid class and she spends our in-person class doing 1 or 2 homework questions the entire 1 hour 45. She treats us like kindergarteners in person then assigns heavy workload online. You WILL be teaching yourself half of the subject and she isn't the best person to teach. The lessons are packed but she skims right through (in-person).
to be honest her lectures where really long and most of the time i had to teach myself or search youtube vher lectures aren't very engaging ( at least for me ) and when asking for help she doesn't really help either but good luck if you're taking her!!
If you are good at math then this class should be easy but if you struggle with math this teacher is not for you. I often just taught myself how to do it and she seems to not know all of the material herself. Like I said if you are good at math then its okay but there is better options out there.
Where do I start? I completely FAILED this class. Along with I had a support class, which DIDN'T help at all. We just go through a notes packet and call it a day. There are quizzes EVERY Thursday. Many things weren't even taught, she said that the ALEKS app will "teach" us. There is going to be a lot of independent learning!!
Best math class I've taken in years. Dr. Pignotti is always very available for questions, responds to emails very quickly, and seems to really care about the students. She gives out a lot of material, but it's useful to help you study. Exams are worth the most, but she allows 3x5 cards and gives equation sheets.
Lovely teacher, i recommend you take her class. I personally struggle with math but she makes it so easy to understand, visit office hours and study and you should be good
This is literally the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. I went to her office hours, asked for help, and she was the definition of no help. She gave so much work for no reason and half the time the homework doesn't even match the study guide and exams, which the exams matter a lot for your grade. JUST BASICALLY TEACH YOURSELF.
She is a horrible professor. She doesn't explain anything at all so basically be ready to be your own professor. She acts nice but then does nothing to help you, NO EXTRA CREDIT, she didn't even grade our final exams or the homework SHE FORCED US TO DO, which was uploading notes like we are in high school. If you love math like her, you'll be ok.
