I liked the class, I just wish there were more opportunities to record grades...
A favorite of mine. Very interesting, fun, and not very hard.

She gave me a C. She doesn't like guys. Run away.
Dr. Thompson makes sure that you are able to get everything down, and she is very clear. She isn't going to chase you down to help you, but if you seek her help she is there. Classes aren't too hard, but you need to go.
She makes class very interesting and explains everything really well. Her tests are pretty hard but not too bad if you study really hard.

Mixes her class up. Sometimes lecture, sometimes group projects, sometimes videos, and sometimes discussions. Not enough grade opportunities.
Excellent prof. Mixes up classes. Very fun class. Highly recomended. Very clear and explains! I wish she gave more opportunities for grades because two of the tests only had 20 quesions and asked questions about little details. No curve, no extra credit.
She can help you alot (but only when you go and see her). exams are not very easy but I think she's very generous in grading papers!
I've had 3 classes with her and enjoy her. She's clear and direct. Easy B, harder to get an A.
I loved her class! She is VERY inciteful and is great especially if you go talk to her. Reading in her class helps a lot! She is one of my favorite Profs. Tests were harder for me because I am overanalytical, but I loved the class so it was worth it!
She is a great teacher, makes class interesting and fun. Group work, videos, 2 test, 2 papers. She makes sure you get everything that you need to know. I recommend for sure
Test are hard, but lectures are very interesting
VERY good teacher. loved her and her class. very interesting but very hard. must study and read everything!!!
Amazing professor! As long as you read the material and study for the tests, you will make an "A". We watched a lot of movies which are helpful in understanding the concepts. I LOVED this class!
This class was amazing! I loved everything about this class. The tests were challenging but the information was very interesting. She is also very helpful and easy to get along with.
This class is very interesting, and she makes it "not boring." We take notes and also watch movies and such. Be sure to read the book before tests. Also, she's not always willing to help you outside of class. You can ask for a favor...but the answer tends to be "no."
This class is interesting and Thompson is an AMAZING PROFESSOR but I'm pretty sure I failed both tests. Then the "quizzes" you take count as much as your final exam grade!!! There are only 4 or 5 grades taken. Half my class failed because shes so much fun but her tests are impossible!
Amazing class, she is so interesting and makes it really fun. Lots of class discussions and videos. It will be relatively easy if you've had psychology before. Get the study guide & study from that, also make note cards. Only 4 grades, 2 quizes & 2 tests, each worth 25% of grade. I have an A.
quality of teaching ok, tests are hard because the questions are ambiguous and sometimes aren't relevant. did all the readings, wrote great papers and still got a B b/c of the tests. if you have the option, take c. thompson or katovich instead, you'll get much more out of their classes.
Class was very fun & interesting. Prof. Thompson is extremely nice and helpful if you need. Class consisted of a paper (not hard at all), presentation, and two tests. Easy B, have to study a bit more for an A.
Prof Thompson is a really interesting lecturer. The only time the class would get boring is during some of the videos. Her tests are really hard though. Not only do you have to know the notes extremely well, you have to read everything that is required in the textbook.
First and foremost READ THE BOOK, the tests are very hard, but if you study you should be fine. She is a very good lecturer, she speaks slowly and the material is always interesting. She is very helpful so if you have a problem go talk to her. Great class.
She's nice, but can be a little bland. Take all the notes. I didn't read & got a B, so do w/ that what you will. It's somewhat interesting, but she doesn't really bring the subject to life, just reiterates facts. She lectures & there are lots of group discussions and videos.
she knows her stuff. 2 papers, 2 tests, very concrete stuff. Tests are verbatim from the notes. Not a guaranteed A, but go to class and your fine. Usually lecture for 3 mins then watch videos that are not on the test.
Dr. Thompson is a cool professor. She is helpful outside of class, and her lectures are very clear. She likes to mix things up so every class is different. However, there are only 3-4 grades, so you must do well everytime or an A is out of the question.
This class is interesting, and she is very clear about what notes she wants you to take. If you study those and review the Study Guide that goes along with the book you will do well in this class. Its not super easy, but if you try you can do well. Also she has interesting videos so its not all lect
This class is like watching Oprah. I love Dr. Thompson. She's a great professor and is fun to talk to. I loved the way she conducted class. Her multiple choice tests are tricky but she doesn't grade papers harshly. Two tests and two papers....an easy B. Study harder for tests if you want an A. I would recommend Thompson over any other prof at TCU.
She is a very clear lecturer. She'll tell you what to write down. Her tests are not too hard if you do a good amount of studying and definately read the book. She's very personable and makes the material very interesting. I definately reccomend her class.
Great professor and you can tell by the way she lectures. You will learn a lot from this class and make a decent grade.
Be careful of the position you take on your paper - she's liberal! Gave me an 88 on a paper in with few red marks, then tried to make me re-write it. The only C I got in my college career!!
I liked her. She is very clear but very detailed. I would suggest her to a friend.
Very liberal teacher. Unless you write the papers to her view, you wont get higher than a B. Recommend other social problems teacher
love it
Very patient and very interested in the views of the students. She is a great professor and is sincerely interested in what the students have to say.
This was the best class I have taken at TCU. She is very helpful. Her teaching strategy is organized and clear. I would recommend this class to anyone. Loved it!!!
Very easy class until test time. I felt like I understood the material but still seemed to only be able to get B's. Nver takes attendence and tests strictly over notes and book. Tells you exactly which notes to write. Overall, not that bad
Dr. Thompson is very interesting, clear and always makes sure the class has a wide variety of different activities. 4 grades, so study hard. The comment about her not liking guys... I'm a guy, I got an A and she wrote me a recommendation to get me into graduate school. Recommend for sure.
Angela Thompson is a true asset to TCU. She gets the job done. She stays on task. She is always prepared and has helpful examples when explaining theories. She is wonderful but her tests can be tricky. Review the handouts because there will be questions on the tests about them. All in all she is a good recommendation. Take her for Soc Prob.
Amazing, but the tests are too few
Not a good teacher. Just reads off notes that she has probably had for the last 5 years and justifies them with same examples used before. If TCU wants to save some money, pay me a tenth of a teacher's salary to teach this class. Always makes you stay in class until 1 minute before it is over. Annoying class, tests tricky, and Do NOT Reccommend.
Really interesting class. Dr. Thompson brings in examples from the real world and relates them to what you are learning. The only bad thing is the papers, she doesn't talk about them at all so you have to stay on top of it.
Take her Social Problems class. She is so interesting and nice. The class is not difficult. On the two term papers that she assigns just write as liberal as you can. I mean CRAZY leftist, and she will give you an A.
loved angela thompson. one of my favorite professors i've taken. hardly ever have to come to class bc you watch lots of videos and she doesn't test you over them but i enjoyed coming to her class anyways. made an easy a in this class (intro to soc)
Great professor as long as you go to class or find someone with the notes you will do fine. Social problems is a very interesting class not boring, information you can use in everyday life. Makes you very aware of the world around you.
This was an interesting class, She reads notes for you to write, she doesnt test you on videos, you dont have homeowrk and u have like 4 tests total which are multiple choice and come half from your notes and half from the book. I never went to class and just read the book and got the notes from someone and got a B.
She will repeat exactly what you need in your notes. She shows really interesting videos, and she has a great way of addressing controversial topics. She is a brilliant woman, but she understands that her students won't be up to her level :) She is easy, only because she is a great teacher and doesnt believe in busy work.
If you make sufficient effort in this class you will have no problems BUT the tests are weighted the same as the quizzes so dont be fooled. they are just fewer questions. Exams are not hard to follow but you must do a little reading in the book. She doesnt lecture out of the book. Lecture and book are different notes. Most likely grade outcome-
AMAZING! i look forward to this class every time. she shows A LOT of interesting videos that she does not test you on and the tests come straight from her notes or the book, but u have to read if u want to do well on the tests. She is my favorite professor and I can't wait to take her again!
Ever notice how some professors can sit and lecture for an entire period and 50 minutes feels like hours? Dr. Thompson does lecture the entire period, yet somehow she always keeps it interesting and enjoyable. Time went by so quickly, I was never just staring at the clock. Heavy lecture can really suck but she is great!
GREAT teacher! She keeps it interesting. Make sure you read EVERYTHING you're supposed to, or you will not do that well on the tests. If you need help with anything, talk to her and she will be glad to help you. She also cancels class quite often, which you can't complain about. :)
Dr. Thompson is the best teacher I have had a TCU! She is very straight forward in her notes, and attendance is not mandatory (although you need to go to get the notes!)Do not read the book, simply get the study guide and read that. She is an excellent teacher and I LOVED her class! An A is totally possible with a little work.
She's not a bad professor, but the Sociology of Weddings was a waste of time and tuition. It was too easy and I was stuck in a room far too small with not the brightest sorority girls. I thought it'd be actual sociological study of weddings, but was more what cuts of diamonds were, cakes, and dresses. I expected far too much for what I got.
Oh how I'm going to miss the woman. My favorite teacher at TCU. Took her for intro, social problems, food, and weddings. She is very clear in notes, and makes her class interesting with lots of movies and group presentations. Take her if you need any sociology courses!!!
Great class! Very easy. You don't have to read the book too much, only 4 tests, and she pretty much reads her notes for you to copy. Interesting videos and topics. Overall, a good class if you need SSC and/or CA.
This was my favorite class this semester! We talked about current news at the beginning of class, had group activities, and watched videos on issues all the time. I expected it to be one of those classes that I hated because of the subjectivity of controversial issues. This wasn't the case at all! She presents the material in a genius way.
Difficult to get an A. No homework and reading is optional. No attendance. I never missed class, took good notes, and studied for over 5 hours before each test and still got a B.
Completely inflexible with late work. Comes off as heartless in that sense. Not the easy A I was looking for. Interesting and good class debate, but not worth taking.
I would not take this class unless you have to. Wedding class is not an easy A. Intro class is also not an easy A. Hard teacher. Be ready to work hard!!!
She's a great teacher. This was her Social Problems class. She's a tough grader when it comes to papers but makes up for it with her easy tests. Every question is straight from the notes. So make SURE you go to class every day and takes notes. Make flashcards for vocab words and it's not bad at all. Plus it's interesting stuff!
Did not get anything out of this class. Not easy and not worth taking.
Great professor!! She breaks everything down for you in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go then you won't learn any of the information. Tests are from the lecture and textbook. She'll bump your grade up 2 points at end of the semester if you've gone to majority of the classes. Easy A if you put in the effort!
Lectures are easy. There are not powerpoints to follow along with, you have to listen to what she says and write it down. Her exams have questions from the textbook in them so you should read. Two of her four exams only have 20 questions so it's easy to miss a few and get a B or C. Read the book and study and you'll be okay.
FANTASTIC! loved this class! She was one of my favorite professors! her lectures are interesting and easy to follow! be sure to pay attention, read the book, and engage in discussion and you will do great! one of my favorite professors!!! i highly recommend this class
She's super sweet and easy to understand. The class is easy and theres only four tests but you have to pay close attention, take good notes, and read the book. If you don't you'll barely get by with a C.
Dr. Thompson is a great teacher! Her lectures are interesting and enjoyable. She is very explicit with what she wants you to take notes on and makes it very easy to take notes on her lectures. If you review your notes and the vocab from the book, you should get an A. I never read the whole chapters and got an A. Got a good grade and learned a lot.
Dr. Thompson gives great and interesting lectures. I enjoyed her style of teaching because she makes the information very clear and easy to understand. She pulls a lot of questions from the textbook, especially on the midterm and final, so reading the textbook is important.
Unfortunately I did not figure out how to pass her tests until after the second one. You have to read the text book!!! Once I started reading the text book carefully, I got A's on her last two tests. She's amazing, and her lectures are very interesting. You can get away with skipping a few classes, but her class is so good that I wouldn't want to.
I LOVED this class! The lectures were super interesting. Your entire grade consists of 4 tests. I would suggest reading the chapters, studying the notes, studying the vocab, studying the handouts, & participating in the threads for e.c. If you have an 88.0, 78.0, 68.0 she'll raise it to the next letter grade if you participated in the threads.
Sociology is an easy subject. Thompson is kinda hard to listen to (speaks fast) but she is interesting & relatable. You really don't need to go to class if you read the textbook thoroughly. However there are a few test questions that begin with "as discussed in class" & you will miss those if you don't go to class but its worth it. take this class!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. She cares a lot about what she's teaching. There are few tests and no busy work, so its easy to stay focused. Would highly recommend her and take her again.
Intro to Sociology was a great class and I enjoyed going to listen to her lecture everyday. Very entertaining and interesting! Class grade is only made up of 4 tests which makes getting an A difficult. Tests are ok but require a lot of studying. Overall would take the class again just because of Prof. Thompson! Easy B, do-able A!
Can't say anything bad about Prof. Thompson, her lectures are interesting, she gives you time to take notes (IMPORTANT), Only 4 Exams (50 Multiple Choice) but as long as you read your notes, the textbook, & her pre-made Quizlets you'll do fine.
Your final grade comes from only 4 tests. She and another professor here wrote the online textbook that they use. The class is very interesting but be ready for a lot of note taking. Also, you watch videos in class. She is great about answering questions and is super super nice.
I LOVED Dr. Thompson! Be ready to know every detail in the textbook. Attendance is mandatory. Grade is based off of 4 tests, but the final is a regular unit test. Hard to get an A because of the amount of tests, but she offers 2 points added to a grade ending in an 8 if you do all the discussion boards.
LOVED Dr. Thompson! She is so nice, not super personable and cry professional. she gives lots of examples in class. tries to relate to rem life things. DEFFINITELY take her. grade is only 4 tests, but if you participate in the discussions then she will boost you if you're a good student. does take attendance. no homework except studying 4 the test.
This class was absolutely awful. Her tests were clearly not written herself - the questions were in different fonts and not in complete sentences. The tests were not over the lectures in class. She used "umm" and "ahh" while reading her notes in class and it was SO annoying. She also pushed her political agenda the majority of the time.
Thompson is a very nice lady & an interesting lecturer. She includes videos and examples that make the content relatable. However, there are only 4 grades (3 tests + 1 final) which make it really hard to get an A. There's no homework which is nice but definitely have to read & study the textbook, study lecture notes, and read & study extra content.
Dr. Thompson is an AMAZING and hilarious lecturer. The one thing I'm not crazy about is that she gives most of her lectures verbally (no powerpoint, etc), but the way she teaches things makes you remember them. She co-wrote the textbook, so quite a bit of the test material comes from there, but the tests are otherwise not hard.
Dr. Thompson was an amazing professor. She was clear about what would be on the tests and really strove to explain the material and make it relatable. There was a lot of class discussion, which helped us grow as a class together. I definitely recommend her class.
She is a really nice professor and it's a very interesting class but test are extremely difficult and you have to be ready to read and study weeks before the test. You only have 4 exams and nothing else that factors into your grade so that sucks too because they're tough. Avoid taking if you can!
Class is graded only on three tests and one presentation that is an hour and 20 minutes long. Can be done in groups or alone but then the class is mainly other group presentations. Not a lot of her lecturing and then the tests sometimes covers things not gone over in class
Dr. Thompson is a great teacher! Her lectures are very informative and uses a lot of real life examples to keep you engaged. you watch a lot of video clips and she does lecture a lot. Test are 50 multiple choice question and they are not extremely difficult if you study well. i went thu all the textbook chapters for each test and got low As!
I LOVE Angela. She was so passionate about Sociology and also so intelligent. She is so funny and makes every class interesting. You get 3 unexcused absences. Also, the only grades are 3 exams. To do well, you should read the textbook and do the activities on the online textbook. Questions on the test are application. KNOW THE DEFINITIONS
Pay attention to lectures and take notes. There are only four grades and be sure to study for a really really long time to secure the A. There are quizlets on the textbook that literally saved my life. I didn't even read the book too much. If you just study the quizlets intensely you'll get a B or A depending on the test.
This class is really interesting, and Dr. Thompson is super knowledgable about sociology. The class itself is really easy. There are only 4 tests including the final and that's it. However, it's not that hard to get As on the tests if you read the textbook and study. She'll also round your grade 2% if you do the discussion threads. I'd recommend!
Dr. Thompson co-authored the class textbook, so she's really knowledgeable. The only downside, is that all of your grade rests on how well you do on the exams. There are no other assignments or extra credit. But, pay attention and read all of the chapters, and you'll be fine.
Very solid professor! I love her. She teaches off of a online interactive textbook that she co-authored, and it has SO many wonderful study tools. There's no homework or papers, only four exams, but if you utilize the online platform you will do well. Pretty interesting material too!
I loved her lectures, very interesting and you watch a lot of videos. You have to take notes from her speaking, but she repeats important info. You're grade is the average of 4 tests(including final), but she gives extra work for bump points. Attendance is mandatory but I enjoyed going every time and she gives you 3-4 freebees for absences.
only 4 tests; read the chapter, study her lecture notes and use all the tools in the text book - she wrote the book! teacher decided to video tape her lecture so we never had a 'real zoom class"; no interaction with the teacher or other students- this made learning very difficult
If you are debating on taking Dr. Thompson-- JUST DO IT! She is the sweetest lady you will ever meet and cares so much. Due to her having students in many different times zones she does recorded lectures, 3 tests, and a simple 20-minute presentation project. She makes it where you can succeed in all of her classes and responds to emails so fast!
Dr. Thompson is an overall nice person and gives good insight about topics. Her class is on zoom, but we're required to have our video on at all times- if we exceed the limit of 4 times off camera, it results in an absence. Her class is based off of the textbook AND class lectures so its way too much info. Wouldn't take her class again.
I took intro to sociology with professor Thompson. Easy class and your grade is only composed of 4 exams. 5% added to lowest grade if you do the homework outside of class. You only have to go to class once a week and the lectures are recorded and posted online. The day you do go to class is discussion based and really makes you think. So easy 10/10
dr. thompson is so passionate and knowledgeable about sociology that she wrote her own textbook! theres a listening feature that makes it really easy to read! 4 tests total over the textbook material and lectures. only have to go to class 1/2 the week. if you do the chapter certificates and worksheets shell boost your final grade 2 points.
She is a nice person, but taught very onesided. She only holds class 1/2 the week because she posts a prerecorded lecture you have to watch and take notes over. There are only 4 grades, which are all multiple choice exams you can take wherever. She will give extra credit if you do the HW. Overall, the class was easy, but not she is very hands off.
Dr. Thompson is a caring and kind professor who is passionate about her job. You are only graded on 4 tests which are online. Class is only held once every week and there are opportunities for extra points. Take her class!
Only four test grades are accounted for and they are taken online. You only have to go to class once a week. She also makes the class interesting. I would recommend taking her.
Very simple class, only have to go once and week. Tests are based strictly off of lecture. You do need to watch and teach lecture on your own though.
Dr. Thompson is very nice and caring. She is very hands off however. You only go to class once a week which is nice and the other day you watch a pre-recorded lecture. Your grade is made up of 4 tests but they aren't hard. There is no required homework but you can do some for extra credit at the end of the semester which I recommend. Easy class
Super easy class - many of the concepts are common sense. She makes class interesting to listen to and grades easy. Should go over terms but she never asks about statistics on tests.
Tests are unnecessarily difficult. "Study guides" are completely useless. They only say the chapter the cover topics and to review class notes. Tests have way too much weight for a pretty low level sociology course.
The class is not too difficult, but it is purely test based. If you are not a good test taker, I do not recommend taking this class. There are four grades in the grade book, and all of them are exams. Dr. Thompson is very willing to work with students if they have issues. Extra credit is offered.
You only have to go to class on Thursdays unless you have a test (online). 4 tests are the only grades, all mc, usually not tricky questions, easy if you study. Extra credit raises your grade quite a bit and is the only homework. Most of the learning for tests is done through the extra credit/textbook, lectures are not super helpful for studying.
I loved this class, a lot of textbook reading but with a Tues/Thurs class Tuesday was a video to take notes on in your own time and Thursday was group work. Online tests are easy if you read the textbook.
so much reading. better take a lot of notes. cannot pass by just showing up. only take if absolutely need
I took her Intro to Sociology class, and really enjoyed it. She presents the material in an interesting, and unbiased way. She is very kind, and has her class set up very well. Tuesdays are online lectures, so you can listen and take notes at your own pace. Thursdays are class check-up sessions where you discuss the material. LOVED the class.
TAKE HER! So sweet and makes class discussions actually engaging. Grade only based on 4 exams but offers extra credit. Wrote the interactive online textbook that we use.
Grades are only based off of 4 Exams so study well. No class on Tuesdays only on Thursdays. I would take her, class is fun and she is really engaging
This professor was very engaging with the class and cared a lot about her students. She made the class very interesting and I would definitely take her again. Her work load was very manageable!!
The class is organized so that tests are basically you're entire grade, which is somewhat annoying. However, she makes the class very easy and interesting. She is an extremely good teacher, and she cares about her students. The class is flipped classroom style, so you only go to class on Thursday and do work outside (it's very manageable and easy)
TAKE HER! She prerecords lectures so you only show up on Thursdays, which is her check-in day (that day is mandatory). Most of the work you do outside of the class. Grades mostly come from tests, but they are fairly easy. She is very engaging with the class and cared a lot about her students.
Someone who took her this sem LMK if the tests are online pleaseee before i sign up for next sem
I loved Intro to Sociology. Dr. Thompson is very well versed in the topic and is unafraid to stand her ground. While she may seem to have a mean demeanor, she is well respected and carries herself well. The class itself was a hybrid where we only had to attend class once a week and had to complete online coursework the other day. All accessible.
Dr. Thompson is one of my favorite professors at TCU! So knowledgeable and I love the way her class is structured!
she's awesome in lecture and structures it really well, she is also really nice and real and makes class interesting, i didn't study for any test i just payed attention in lecture and got almost 100 on every test, totally reccomend
Amazing teacher, if you take Intro to Sociology you only have to come in once a week and do the assigned work online. She is quick to respond to emails and tests are online. Regarding class you aren't allowed to use your phone at all and her lectures are long but everyone participates so she makes it fun. Very passionate, witty, and kind. Take her!
The in class lectures were always very interesting and lots of group activities in class. You only have class once a week which is very nice. However, it was hard to get outside of class help and the tests have questions about specific videos we watched in class making the tests pretty difficult.
If you need to take intro so sociology I recommend. Only have to go to class once a week, but lecutures are heavy. However, she makes them fun, so most of the time they are not that bad. Cannot have electronics out, but tests were taken at home online. Weekly assignments over each chapter that were impossible not to get an 100 on.
