Self-paced math is not easy because it all depends on you, but, Ms. Tran is a very good at explaining if you go to her for help.
I would highly recommend. She always gives a practice test to take home which resembles the type of problems. Does not give too much homework. Grades tests very fair. Gives partial credit on problems. Very helpful.
Great PreCalc teacher at SJCC. She also teaches at SJSU
Ms. Tran was the best math teacher I have had so far. She made things simple enough and her testing and grading was fairly straight forward. Keep up with homework and you will do fine.
She was a very good teacher and explains everything very well. Gives practice tests that are very similar to the actual test. Gives extra credit as well.

Ms. Tran tries to be a good teacher, but she really doesn't know how to teach.Don't believe her review for the test, You will have to study hard. Make sure you are clear with the GreenSheet as HW is 2% for every test, that makes total 10%. So Get set to work kard and do the HW, if you are taking her class. Her grading sucks.
That class itself is challenging and she makes sure to challenge you even more. Prepare for word problems!
She is a horrible teacher. She is very hard, if you take her class you will get hurt on your ass. Trust me i took her class and i have to drop after couple week cause she is too hard. If you want to challenge and spend so much time for one class then take her.
She is he best Math teacher at SJCC. She explains everything very well. Extremelly helpfull. She is very fair on her gradings, and her tests are based on lecture and Homework. She rocks... BEST, BEST, BEST TEACHER AT SJCCC.
She's alright if you spend time doing the homework, which is a lot daily. If you don't you're toast (like me, hehehe).
don' tknow her right hand from her left. I don't know where they grab these teacher from.
She's a...NOT very...approachable, helpful, reliable, or happy person!!! I could not figure out why she is so miserable but she treats everyone like they are second class! I did not enjoy her class one bit! She's not a very seasoned teacher!!!
talk to the board all the time, you can barely hear what she's saying. Lots of homework, pretty usless most of it.Hard to find outside during office hours or outside of class, she's busy teaching in different colleges, not very approachable. Treats people like morons.stay away.
Angela is the best teacher I've ever had. She explains everything so well, I wish she taught more upper level classes. Plus she's a hottie! and pretty entertaining.

Excellent Excellent teacher. Other people who have rated her on here obviously havent taken many college classes. (math 11 is proof) She is the best you can get. If you do the work she gives and put in a good effort you WILL DO WELL She goes slow enough to understand but not too slow and wont go on until the whole class understands. If its a 5
You know, community college is basically for the purpose of transitioning students into university level courses, so the suggestion that students unhappy with her teaching style haven't taken enough classes is puzzling. Tran isn't helpful or clear, and that's entirely separate from the experience of her students. Not everyone can be a teacher.

The first few weeks with Mrs. Tran were grueling but well worth the work once I got used to it. What I liked about Tran was that if you didn't understand what she would teach then she was always willing to explain what she taught until you understood. Do not miss class, her class is 90% lecture and you can't find most of it in the text book.
she really does not know how to teach.cant understand a word.DO NOT TAKE HER!! if you want to learn somthing DO NOT TAKE HER!
Other teachers at SJCC and SJSU have something she doesn't- concern for the students. When it comes down to it she is cold and doesn't really care. I would not advise this teacher.
In this class homework and pretests makeup a huge part of your grade. The tests are hard but if you are up to date on homework and pay attenion in class it's not too bad. She's not as heartless as others make her sound. She always makes sure that the whole class understands before moving on. She challenged you and didnt baby you like other teachers
She barley speaks english and goes way to fast. When i asked for help she would get frusterated if i did not get it. Duh thats why im in the class.
She is a really good Math teacher. She shows you how to do problems at least 30 times on the board for home and tests. However her final is pretty difficult just study before and you'll do fine
She's very helpful. If you don't get it then speak up, she's willing to do problems over and over until it's understood. She's an easy grader. Do the homework and don't get behide on it it's a huge part of the grading. Be neat, it gets you extra points!!
I DONoT Recommend her... SHe does seem to grade harsh ... She gives extra credit which does help, but if u don't do to well no test it may not be enough. Tests are not long but SHe WILL grade u on every little mistake which can knock ur score down a lot .. I did not enjoy her class she seems to be picky about how to work out problems.. Doesnt like to go by book .. She requires u to make homework portfolios with cover sheets.. Picky about it.. I don't feel she explains everything..So b careful..
Ms. Tran is GREAT! Pay attention, be organized, turn in homework on time, do it as she requests, study, ask questions, do all the extra credit as possible, and you will be fine. She may ask for a lot but it's only to help YOU (the student) after all. She is quite funny and if you get her sense of humor, she will grown on you. I recommend Ms. Tran.
She is absolutely GREAT!!!If you attend classes, everything is very easy! She explains the problems and gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit.I absolutely loved being in her class!
If you attend the class everyday and listen to her it is so easy. She is a little hard to understand but she always made jokes in class and everyone respected her. We used the book a lot but this class seriously made me like math.
Great teacher. Although you do have to work - homework and in class - she recognizes the needs of the students and helps everyone to understand the aubject. I took Intermediate Algebra and have had no problems with higher level math and science classes due to Angeela Tran having been my instructor. Grading is very fair.
She tends to go fast with her lectures, so if you do not understand something, you need to ask her to slow down. However, she gives a lot of examples when she is explaining how to do a problem, and it helped a lot. She does not let you make up tests though, so make sure you are there.
she starts out with a lot of examples and is determined to help you out. in the middle of the semester she was not as helpful. she grades on attendance and does a lot of class work. she doesn't keep her word if you have an emergency she will tell you is fine but once you come back she won't give you the points.
I loved her. made math simple, and gives credit for effort. Just do your homework, and come to class. I recommend her if your looking for an easy going instructor.
She is nice as a person. Her lectures are terrible ,she does not explain well and relies a lot on student Intern to help the class before tests.. I strongly don't recommend her.
Nice lady. Gives homework every day, there's midterms and a final. Tests are at the end of sections. Helpful and explains well. I didn't understand intermediate algebra 'til I started her class. Ask questions, keep up with the work and show your work. Even though I barely passed with a C, she's a great instructor.
Horrible teacher, not very helpful, heavey accent, hard to understand, makes too many mistakes, not well prepared
Fantastic and dedicated professor! She is clear and is interested in the success of her students! If you put in the effort and dedication she will help you any way you can! I have never met a better math professor!
Mrs. Tran is very organized and clear. I have not done well in math classes in the past but I did great in hers. As long as you keep up with the work (which helps you on the test anyway) then you will do well. She is positive and honest. She is a very dedicated professor and she takes her job seriously. She also doesn't take BS from students.
Professor Tran has great lectures and writes out perfect notes for you to copy. For part of your homework she gives you a practice test that will be in similar format as your test to help you prepare. Super helpful and nice lady. Her style of teaching is great, and easier to follow than other math teachers I've had.
I've taken many math classes and Ms. Tran is my favorite. She will not go further on a subject unless everyone can understand it and move on. She gives extra credit periodically, always take it. NEVER miss this class or a test. You can't makeup any tests and if you miss classwork its a huge hit on your homework packet.
Ms. Tran is a wonderful teacher that explains problems thoroughly and gives these great tips for solving equations that even the book does not provide. There is a lot of homework that you turn in packets that should be organized in such a way that Ms. Tran can easily grade all the work that we turn in. I would gladly take her again.
Tough class, but great professor. I took her for Math 111 also. She makes you work for it. Do the extra credit and participate. She cares about her students and is always looking for the best ways to teach you. Worth taking.
This teacher is going to make sure that you learn . That's for sure
She gives ALOT of HW. She mostly talks at you and does not teach. Students have asked her if there are other methods to learn things (other than what she is teaching) and she became very defensive. The extra Credit is not worth it. You do like 20 problems for 1-2 points. Would absolutely not recommend.
Really organized. Explains things easily. Gives a TON of homework. I took her during an intersession & she gave us time everyday to do the HW in class with her help, in groups & with the student assistant. I didn't find her accent difficult to understand. The practice test closely resemble real test. Lots of work but passing is doable with effort.
very organized and has a GREAT way of Teaching lessons ! very good style of teaching so every one understands !
She was very friendly and a bit comical. She has an accent, but understandable. She gave tons of homework, and not enough time to complete it. Lectures are a bit sketch, she skips a lot of steps and gets a annoyed when you ask for clarification. My notes are usually useless so YouTube and my text book were my saviors.
A Ton of Homework, Tough grader, Really does care about your education and learning. She is a very friendly teacher. Strict teaching methods. Very serious when it comes to paying attention.
a little hard to understand accent sometimes, but otherwise is a pretty good teacher.
Ms. Angela Tran is an excellent teacher. The homework assignments for the semester are received in advance along with the due dates. Homework packets are a must. If you get a low test score, your homework points will definitely help bring your grade up. She makes good use of classtime.
Angela Tran is very funny and will go out of her way to help you. If you do everything she asks you to do, then you will pass. If you fail a test your homework packet will bring up your grade. She teaches well and explains everything to you. She has every one Participate on the board with their own or group homework. Will take her next class.
Took Math-25 with her, which is pre-cal and trigonometry. Lots of homework and notes and examples to help. Lectures went by sections of chapters. Mrs. Tran is nice and helpful, the only thing I didn't like was too much homework.
take her class if you want to learn nothing. grade hw for her other classes and red her emails in class. does not lecture.
Lots of homework but I was in the 5 week class. Does most homework in class and will go over it. Lets you use a cheat sheet on tests. Has a little bit of an accent, sometimes hard to understand. Pretty decent at explaining concepts but if you want a for sure A or B and you arent the best at math, hire a tutor.
I took MATH25 in Summer 2020. Cares for her student's success. Only 3 exams. Avg of 6-8 hw assignments in each chapter. Don't fall behind. Pay attention in class. Notes can be a bit messy so I suggest doing notes along w/ her so you organize on your own pace. Has a little accent, but i understood well. lectures are hw problems. very nice teacher!
Mrs Tran is at her own pace, is hard to get ahold of after hours, does not allow for any honest mistakes, gets frustrated when asked questions that we do not understand, just expects us to know, not caring. i have been in school the past 2 yeas and about to finish, she has been the worst instructor i have ever had!!
Professor Tran teaching style uses a clear step by step methodology that helps us understand the mechanics of solving math problems. She offers many resource online especially recordings of her lecture to review the lessons along with well written nots.
Way too fast, skips steps, and expects you to know her logic. If you ask a question she gets an attitude and says you are arguing with her. Never turns on her camera (remote zoom) so I don't even know what she looks like. Records her lectures but it is not a lecture, more of doing homework problems. Doesn't use the textbook.
I took Precalculus with her at SJCC. Lots of homework and her lectures are fast-paced but the exams are not too bad as she gives a pre-test which is basically the same as the actual test. Participation matters a lot. Easy A as long as you finish your homework.
Professor Tran is an okay professor. She uses WebAssign as HW and provides pretests for midterms and exams. You'll meet with the class either in-person or zoom when the pretests come up. However, for the final exam she is very strict about the notes used. Overall, she is a decent teacher, but could be a little more flexible with her students.
I was iffy due to reading the reviews but I took a chance anyway & Mrs. Tran is an AMAZING teacher! Since this is math & has heavy calculator use, attendance is KEY! She works with you on each problem & gives you the opportunity to go over homework questions that you're unsure of. Amazing teacher, take her class if you need the requirement.
Took her class a few years ago, pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine, ask questions if you need them and she's willing to explain them to you
I don't understand how so many people are putting 5. She is undoubtably the worst math teacher I had in a while. She doesn't explain the concepts AT ALL, only goes over examples from the online textbook. If your only goal for Calculus is to pass doing the bare minimum, this professor is an adequate choice. Otherwise, not recommended.
She doesn't explain clearly and you have to teach yourself a lot. Homework is on web assign; she posts the lectures but sometimes forgets to record so there are missing parts.
If you put in the work, good grades will follow. A lot of people might complain but you have to put in effort; this is a college math course. Exams are randomized for everyone. Final exam replaces your lowest midterm score. DO THE HOMEWORK. TAKE NOTES. ASK QUESTIONS. She bumps up people with border grades. Use YT for extra help.
Does not clearly explain problems and frequently skips steps. She records the online lectures but forgets to occasionally, which leaves gaps in the recordings. WebAssign is used for homework and Respondus Lockdown is used for tests. She replaces your lowest scoring test's % with the final's % if it is higher which helps a bit.
She is a very difficult professor and grades very harshly.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER! She is horrible at explaining in her lectures, she just uses the homework from Cengage to teach. She teaches students like they already know everything about calculus. If you are already proficient in calculus then you may be fine. For everyone else, do yourself a favor and find another professor.
I love Professor Tran! She was so helpful as long as you put in effort coming into class. Something to remember: do your homework before class! It'd help you because she lectures on homework material. Also, she's a little bit of a slow grader but if you have the patience and put in effort you should be fine!
Prof. Tran mostly uses homework for teaching concepts and most of the lectures cover problems in the assigned homework. I relied on the textbook and youtube for concepts that were unclear and that helped a lot. Your grade is based on performance on tests but overall she grades them very fairly.
The professor does not teach concepts well. I had to look everything up myself because she would constantly mess up in lectures. She grades off group homework and docks points for any minute thing (if the upload is small, if your writing is not neat, if your name isn't next to every question you do).You have to rely on other people for your grade.
Worst math instructor I have ever had. She teaches nothing, I am taking Discrete math with here, and she does not cover anything. She has videos, obviously created a while ago, that she does not even remember her material. VERY VERY BAD NOT RECOMMENDED BY ANY MEANS. Take your course in a different school if there is no one but her.
weekly homework and group discussion posts (it might be hard to communicate). lecture videos are posted. most of them are not too hard to learn from and to do the homework and tests.
wow I totally love teaching the materials by myself. the exams totally weren't bonkers.
The class can be really challenging in order to get an A and to actually learn since her lecture videos are kinda bad. There are 3 exams in total (2 tests, 1 final all with lockdown browser), you must get above a 105/120 on the tests in order to get an A. There is no extra credit and no curves. I can imagine this class being even worse in person.
Working together with classmates makes the class easier
I saw mixed reviews here & decided to give her the benefit of the doubt so I registered for the class; big mistake. Don't take the class if you actually want to learn. Class is extremely homework heavy, a chapter a week. I would only suggest taking this class if you already know pre-calc, otherwise have fun teaching yourself.
Professor has terrible grammar, making understanding her posts/assginments extremely difficult. Instructions are unclear. A majority of the class will be based on your ability to teach yourself. The only thing she taught me was that I could teach an online course by telling my students to do the WebAssign homework, and I can collect an easy check.
Not clear at all. There are so many instructions; Canvas is a mess. She did not separate homework by week. Not clear on discussions. Not answering messages or emails. Different due dates for homework. Not recommended at all.
