the worst teacher i have ever had. DO NOT TAKE!!! Does not know about the subject she is teaching and will not answer questions clearly. Horrible teacher
Mostly rambles in class, but it's interesting...just read the book and you'll do fine on tests...easy A
Very hard teacher does not know how to teach. very boaring do not take take Bullers instead
very unhappy and depressing teacher. cannot teach at all.
She is a rude professor. Do not take her class, take Bullers instead. You don't learn anything in her class.
She is down to earth, and knows alot about the subject. Lectures can be boring at times, but overall i think she does a great job with the course.
Easy class, easy tests...as long as you read the book. Sort of mean at times but also friendly for those that showed up on time. Don't be late!Classes can be boring but do learn a lot.
do not take this class with er. put it off if you have 2. she has no compassion for her students. she also does not grasp the fact that we do not get this stuff like she does.
she is avery unhappy person and very boring in class. I don't think she has any idea how to teach a class. She has a terrible outlook on life.
I had her for the Sociology of Death and Dying. She was incredibly boring, shows a lot of lame, old videos, and can be a bit frustrating, but easy. Her voice is very blah and she doesn't ever seem passionate. I was really disappointed in this class because I expected it to be so cool. It wasn't. Not with her anyways. Good luck if you get her.
lectures not related to book - tests not related to lectures - in otherwords, be prepared to teach yourself this class because all you are going to learn from her is her opinion on things (which is very negative and discouraging)(which you won't be tested on at least mostly not)isn't helpful one on one either--her way is the right way and only way
Okay, so she is not the most dynamic lecturer in the world, but I really liked her by the end. She totally knows what she is talking about, gives fair tests and interesting projects, and rewards you if you try. I thought the material was interesting and I really learned alot.
unclear, not easy to follow, test questions are often irrelevant to the course
Overall I liked her, even though most people in my class didn't. She is definately one of those teachers that likes you the more you come to class and you get rewarded for it. If you don't go to class a lot don't take her you will either be too lost by test time, or you will not be on her good side. But I for one would take her again!
If you have ADD don't take this. She has no sympathy for anyone. She definitely knows her stuff, but is the worst Teacher i've had so far. the videos are really corny. Didn't learn many new things and she makes cool things boring. Always looks like she's about to cry. if she starts to dislike you theres no redemption. very stubborn and bitter
Do NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! She is a horrible teacher and talks in monotone. She refuses to work with students and is not helpful at all. She is the worst teacher I've ever had. This class was interesting so you should def take it with a DIFFERENT professor!
the tests are rough but projects are interesting, her teaching style is pretty weak, she's lienient with makeup tests
tests and projects are pretty easy, she gives study guides, but her classes are complete lecture. She is extremely boring-if you don't have to take her, don't.
I was skeptical about this class because so many of the ratings for her were bad... but I don't see what was so bad about it. It was easy in my opinion...she gives study guides for the test that come strait from the book. Don't really need the notes she gives but she talks the whole class. She wasnt bad like everyone said she was. I also took SOC 220 with her and made an A, and once again not near as bad as everyone said. She does get irritated with students who show up late, but thats only natural. No study guides this time, but the tests were easy if you study at all.
The class is very dry and boring, because she talks monotonously. The topic isn't as interesting as it sounds. Her tests are okay, but you have to get used to them (plenty of time to do so, there are 6). The two projects are really fun. She's a very nice person, though, and very understanding if you have any problems etc.
Not only is the class boring, but she believes that the world revoloves around her. And her "short" paper assignment is 4-6 SINGLE spaced pages while your research paper is 8-10 DOUBLE spaced pages..I mean, does she really think we're stupid that cant figure out they're BOTH THE SAME amount of work!! So be prepared for 5 tests, 2 term papers, etc.
Dr. Wadsworth was clear in her assignments, stayed on task in lectures, and was very helpful if students had questions in or out of the classroom.
I thought she was pretty easy, especially for a 300 level class. She gives study guides that are very straight forward. Go to class, take notes. 2 papers, 1 short one and a course paper. I'd recommend her for any SOC class
I could not stand this class. She had it out for me. Not only is she a boring, quiet teacher, she assigns single-spaced papers as make-up if she cancels class. We never got these papers back, therefore never knowing our grades. Her tests were alright, but if you don't write an opinion she agrees with, you're dead.
While reasonable to talk with outside of class, beware. She is as interesting as a rock.
I took her Intro to Sociology test. The material was fairly interesting, but she is such a boring teacher. We watched movies almost everyday, so she never teaches. Only grades are attendence and exams. Exams aren't that hard if you study vocablulary or read the chapters. Basically a self taught class.
I took her Intro to Sociology class. The material was fairly interesting, but she is such a boring teacher. We watched movies almost everyday, so she never teaches. Only grades are attendence and exams. Exams aren't that hard if you study vocablulary or read the chapters. Basically a self taught class.
We watched movies every day and the tests are based only on the textbook which we never talk about. It is a self taught class and the tests arent bad if you memorize the vocab in the test and read for detail!
Terrible teacher. Does not teach anything. I am pregnant and as I was getting ready to leave for the my final exam I got sick. I showed up 10 minutes late knocked on the door, she looked up saw me and would not let me in. I emailed her telling her what happened. She refused a makeup saying it was my fault. Has no regard or concern for her students
I don't understand why she has so many bad ratings on here. Her tests are extremely easy, she gives you a study guide in advance & all of the questions are straight from the study guide. She always has extra credit on the exams. If you study the study guide, there's no reason you shouldn't make an A.
tests are straightforward and she gives you a study guide which the test is solely based upon. Great teacher and very helpful, for those students who want to learn/help themselves.
This professor wants you to succeed. Her class can be repetitive but she tells good stories and we watch movies sometimes. The tests are almost entirely from the book though. As long as you read, you can do well.
Absolutely terrible. The lectures are repetetive and have about 5% to do with the tests. This is a self taught class and you have to read from a horribly boring book to pass exams. All exams are mostly T/F and there are plenty of trick questions. She is rude to her students and is so monotoned the class DRAGS.I usually sign the sheet and walk out.
I should have expected that a class about death would make me want to kill myself during said class. Worst class I've ever taken. She's very rude to her students and is not helpful at all. I did well only because I read the excruciatingly terrible book and signed the attendance sheet. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
She was a great professor and I'll definitely take her again. Her class is really easy if you come to class & do the study guides for the exams. Every question on her exams comes straight from the guides.
This class wasn't so bad at first, but halfway through the semester I couldn't stand the class. The books were boring, she didn't tell you what chapters or articles to read until two days before the test, and her lectures were all over the place.
EVERY TESTS ARE OVER 100 QUESTIONS T/F. Almost all coming from the book. We spent two days watching a movie and really there will probably be maybe 3 questions on the test from it....pointless. But you have to come to class or she deducts 1% off your grade every time.
If there was no attendance taken, I never would have step foot in that class after the first day. Nothing in her lecture was on the test, its all based on the book. I thought it was going to be interesting but boy was I mistaken. The whole chapter on suicide made me want to commit it in that very stuffy room. she calls people out too. DO NOT TAKE!
The class is easy but Wadsorth is horrible. She doesn't take advantage of any interesting topics associated with the course. She treats her students as if they're in high school. All the info comes from the text book and her lectures are summed up by the name of the class... death and dying
she is terrible! just writes down random words on the board and expects you to understand it all later. long tests also.
This was the worst teacher EVER. She was extremely boring and it was the most depressing class ever, death and dying. She did not teach anything. Everything on the test was straight from the book, the test were over 100 ?'s t/f...she has a monotone voice and after everything she says she repeats the words "and i think its interesting"...IT'S NOT!!!
awful. never again.
worst teacher ever. wrote random words all over the board that make no sense, monotone voice, and EXTREMELY boring. i thought this class would be interesting but it was horrible. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I dont know why she has bad ratings, i thought she was a great teacher. All you need to do is actually read the book, and you will make an A. She is very in to her job, which makes it interesting.
I was so disappointed in this class. It was so boring and all we did was watch videos. She only lectured once and her exams were so hard and confusing. You have to teach yourself everything and she is really rude. Do not take this class if you can help it.
Pretty easy class to pass if you memorize the study guides, but professor has a bad attitude and just writes random words on the board. Don't expect much sympathy from her AND don't get on her bad side. Can be extremely rude and unhelpful...the type to call people out in class. Would not recommend.
I actually really enjoyed this class. Dr. Wadsworth expects people to pay attention and participate in her class, as they should, if you can do that you'll have no problems. There's a lot to memorize from the study guides, but everything from the test comes straight out of it. Be respectful, work hard, participate and you'll have no problem!
Very hard and class was horrible. Nothing that were on the test we ever went over in class. Hated this class so much. Worked very hard to recieve a C. Dont take her!!
I thought Dr. Wadsworth was really interesting.I really had no issue with her. The exams are really long but mainly consists of true/false. There were a couple of writing assignments that she graded really easily. You just have to barely read the book and follow instructions and you'll get a good grade.
I had Dr Wadsworth for 2 classes in the same semester. This was a huge mistake. She assigned 2 papers and 4 tests in 1 class and 3 papers and 5 tests in the other. She isn't that clear in her lectures and makes attendance mandatory but everything on the tests is from the book. If you have an easy semester, I might recommend her.
Her study guides and tests are ridiculously long, and when someone would ask a question in class, her answer would be completely irrelevant. Also, I emailed her to ask about my grade, and she was rude and her replies off topic. She will count you absent even if you attend class(w/out telling you) because you were "disruptive" in some way.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! I cannot stress this enough. She is a horrible teacher and just writes random words on the board. You have to depend on the book for everything! her tests are 115+ question about very specific details. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. THIS WOMAN IS INSENSITIVE AND WILL LOCK YOU OUT OF THE CLASSROOM ON TEST DAYS IF YOU ARE 20 SECONDS LATE. AND YOU WILL GET A ZERO ON THE TEST.
Requires a lot of reading and the tests are long. She does but random things on the board but as long as you read the book (and I mean the whole book page for page)its an easy A. couple of assignments but its literally based all on your thoughts and opinion.
If you enjoy teaching yourself everything about a new subject, staying up until 3 a.m. the night before the test studying, stressing and crying, reading every word of a 500+ page textbook, getting absolutely NO help or feedback from a professor, and receiving demeaning, arrogant e-mails, then this is the class for you! Beware of DR. WADS-WORTHLESS!
Apathetic towards the material, nothing in you learn from her is sociologically related, it's all tidbit facts about medicine. Incorporates a draconian syllabus, ruthless, does not work with students, what you discuss in class will never be on the exams. Very difficult grader, near impossible to get a A in her class. Prides herself on difficulty.
Dr. Wadsworth is extremely passionate about her subject matter, and she always strives to keep the mood light with such a morbid topic. She has been nothing but kind and helpful the whole semester. While you do have to buy the book and study to get the grade, it's not as awful as everyone says. 5 tests & 2 personal papers. I loved the class.
Dr. Wadsworth is very passionate about her subject matter. If you are a student that takes your education seriously,& intends on putting forth effort in your classes, her lectures are great. Her syllabus are crystal clear with expectations from the beginning of semester& as long as you keep up with the readings, its easy sailing.
I hope to defer potential students from taking her class. Do not make the same mistake I did. The class is monotonous and dull. Everything discussed could be summed up in one lecture. I absolutely loathed this class and her teaching methods. The class is just brutal and the tests are typically 120+ questions.
Do not take this as an 8 am. You will fall asleep. Lecture's are super boring and constantly the same thing. The material itself though is well presented. Tests are always long and nitpicky.
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT. seriously, do not. You will want to commit suicide every single day because all she talks about is her old mother…every single day. Most pointless class I have ever taken. Sociology is not supposed to be that hard, she makes it as hard as she possibly can. I repeat, do not.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ THE TEXTBOOK. I LOVED the class, and loved her attitude. She does not tolerate disrespect and expects your full attentions. Lots of studying in the textbook, but as long as you read and follow her instructions on assignments, easy A. She can be intimidating, but she can also be very helpful.
Horrible teacher. Test questions mainly came from the smallest/useless details in the book or a random question from the irrelevant documentaries she showed in class. When she "taught" all she wrote were random words on the board that NEVER flowed. Slowest hour and 15 mins in my life. Don't take her.
Tests are WAAAAYYYYY too long. Question often on useless facts from the book/articles. Made me read a whole novel for 10 questions on the final. She gets super aggressive if you say anything remotely sounding like an accusation. Lectures are halfway interesting. More people need to talk to the dept chair about her. Do not recommend.
Wadsworth is very passionate about this subject and you definitely have to study to make a good grade. If you take SOC 220, you need to make sure that you can emotionally handle the class. The course description should come with a trigger warning alert. The material itself is very heavy and the films watched in and out of class are very morbid.
She is Horrible! NURSING MAJORS do not take her! Take anyone else but her! Tests are extremely long and has nothing to do with her long, boring, painful rambling in class. The averaged at least 120 questions straight from the book. The topics were never discussed in class. Attendance is mandatory, takes attendance every class. DON'T TAKE HER!
SAVE YOURSELF. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER.
Four major tests in this class that account for most of your grade, the tests are on over a months worth of material and he study guides are useless as they are over 150 questions that have 3 parts each, worst is that an question I have emailed her has gotten rude and condescending replies, horrible class and very belittling instructor
IF YOU VALUE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD, LIKE YOUR GPA, SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
I'm taking her SOC 220 in my last semester of college, and i must say her lectures are the most painful i've ever had to sit through. She talks the full class period, in a very monotone voice. She takes attendance, and approximately 2% of what she says is on the exam. The rest of the 120 question test is from the book. I would NOT recommend her!
While Professor Wadsworth has a passion for what she teaches and has some good stories to tell, the class can be a drag. She talks the whole time whilst writing snippets of information on the whiteboard (Will it be on the test? Who knows!)While she is not a harsh grader, you can't BS papers or she will know.
I thought she was fantastic. Show up, pay attention, read the book, and put in the work and you will get an A. I read the book and glanced over my notes before tests. That was it. It's really not that bad if you pay attention. Her lectures are interesting so it's not hard to.
Discrimination against handicapped students or students that don't believe her philosophical view on race, sexual orientation, and religion. Think twice before taking her I witnessed her kick a fully functioning psyc major with physical disabilities out because she was "to much of a distraction" sent her out in the hall alone until her aid arrived.
I've had her for 2 classes. She gives you a 200 question+ study guide and you only get tested on less than 50 of them but you must know ALL the 200 questions on the study guide because it's word by word from the study guide at random. Anything she says in class is irrelevant but you HAVE to attend class. I learned nothing from her classes.
I had Dr. Wadsworth for Soc. of Death & Dying. I was in the class 1st semester & dropped it because of the ratings on this page, but my friend took it & said she loved it so I took it 2nd semester. I loved the class & the information is really interesting. 4 tests & 2 papers, but you write about yourself so they're really easy. Great Class!
She just might be the most boring teacher at this school. Attendance is mandatory even though you could never go and still pass the class. She is rude and condescending. Tests are stupid long and and about 3 percent of what is covered in class is on the test. do not take this class
Monotone voice. Lectures are long and most of the notes aren't on the exams.
She was very rude when I tried scheduling an appointment with her to discuss my grade on a paper and she refused to help me understand what I did wrong. I advice against her classes unless absolutely necessary.
Eh. I don't mind her. If you show up, are organized, write good papers, study moderately and stay awake you will pass. She doesn't tolerate any disrespect (texting, doing other class homework etc) and will call you on it. Lectures are painful but she shows a lot of interesting / relevant documentaries. Only 1 course per semester with her for sure.
Took this class just do to pure interest in the subject, I had no previous experience in Sociology. Dr. Wadsworth is a very easy teacher and posts a study guide for each test two weeks prior. It's unfortunate that it seems there was a situation with a student a while back. However, she is a very nice individual just show up and you will pass.
For what the subject was, she made it interesting. I would take a class by her again. Beware though- the last test I just took from her was 114 true or false....
God I hated her. Picked this class as a major requirement cause I thought it sounded like the easiest one. I was so wrong. Her lectures are so redundant and she's really boring and super condescending. Grades really subjectively on papers even though she for sure won't learn your name. Tests are 120+ questions. Definitely would not take this class.
Dr. Wadsworth is very tough. Attendance is absolutely necessary. She lectures but not about the things that will be on the test. Lectures are long and boring. She goes in circles without really explaining anything. Would not take this class again.
She can lecture or an entire class period without really saying anything. Her tests are difficult and having little to nothing to do with her lectures. It's all based on the study guide which is hell on earth with Satan's idea of great formatting. Textbook is necessary, but she had a copy on reserve in the library so I never bought it.
I took this class because the information seemed interesting and it's required for my major. I was wrong. It started out okay but as the semester went on I regretted my decision for taking it. She is very dry and can be very rude. Only take her if you absolutely have to.
I really enjoyed her class. I Definantly had to put time into it though. Her tests are almost all true false and over 100 questions long. READ AND GO TO CLASS. If you put in the work you will make an A. I thought she was hilarious but some people may not agree. more people made Bs and Cs than made As so if you aren't majoring in SOC don't take
You will not pass this class if you don't go. She passes around an attendance sheet the last ten minutes of class and abducts a point from participation for every day you miss. Her lectures are extremely long and her tests are straight from the study guide. I think she is a great professor but I would not recommend this class. Oh and buy the book.
Dr. Wadsworth was not as bad as many people before me rated her. Her class was very boring and lecture heavy. Most of the time she told personal stories. Had 3 major tests, 1 final, and 2 important papers. She is a hard grader, so you have to work for an A.
I am a junior and it is currently my least favorite class in all of college. Thought soc of religion would be interesting but oh my gosh. She really makes you dread class. Seems like a nice lady but tests are hell and lectures are SO BORING and nothing is from the notes, only the book, yet attendance is taken everyday and you get points deducted
She lectures and shows videos a lot. She rarely asks for students feedback in class. Her study guides are 15-20 pages long and not very relative to the tests. They take forever to complete. Her emails are pretty rude towards students as well. I have heard other classes are better than this one, but I would stay away from SOC Religion at all costs.
I really enjoyed her class. I would definitely take one of her other classes if I need to. There are only 5 tests non-cumulative. 2 Papers which are really easy. The papers are worth more than the tests. I would highly recommend her for a professor.
I know Dr. Wadsworth has good intentions, but this class was just not the best. She is not that approachable in/outside of class. Additionally, the study guides for the tests are so long, but the test questions come directly from the guide so you must do them. Her lectures are also a bit dry, but some of the info is interesting.
Dr. Wadworth's class was interesting, but I did not like how she lectured or how she wrote exams. The exams are over 100 questions and very nit-picky with all of the questions being true or false or multiple choice. Maybe sociology majors would like her class, but I took her class to full a university studies, enter at your own risk...
Dr. Wadsworth was beyond helpful and understanding. Her study guides, while long, are completely comprehensive. If you do the entire study guide you should get an easy A on the test. The documentaries we watched in class were all really interesting. I don't understand all the negative reviews, I absolutely adored her and her class.
Probably one of the most boring teachers I've had. Always acts really somber and can be somewhat condescending at times as well. I thought this would be an interesting class to take, but she really makes me dread going.
Dr. Wadsworth is such a sweet person! She is willing to help in any way she can. The class itself is really easy, just a little boring at times. If you takes notes and read the book you will be fine. Just DO NOT be late for an exam or get up to go to the bathroom during an exam.
The main issues are: a) her dreadfully boring approach to teaching material that could actually be interesting, b) the rudeness and condescension of the professor (Expect unhelpful, hostile responses in emails.), and c) her lectures do not relate to what is on the tests. Besides that, not a hard class if you attend class and memorize study guides.
Very long and hard to follow lectures, writes her notes on the board by hand, easy grader but gives large assignments
If you want a class to put you to sleep take this one. Her voice is super monotone and if you don't sit near the front you won't hear her. Writes notes all over the board and erases them before you finish writing. Some of my favorite quotes from this women is "business end of a pistol" and "I'm a damn good shot". Her test are 115 question t or f.
#BORING! Note taking is irritating because she just writes a few words on the board for an hour and 15. She is condescending, doesn't like to be debated with, will take points off your papers if she doesn't agree with your opinion, & tells the same story about a lady with cancer every week. Tests are around 115 questions mainly true or false.
Dr. Wadsworth is awesome. She has a somewhat monotone voice and the lectures may be boring, but the lecturing material is incredible. I highly recommend SOC 220 (death and dying). She has tons of experience with the subject and she tells lots of stories. She cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed.
I have never rated any professor on this website in my 4 years at UNCW. Dr. Wadsworth is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is condescending, boring, and plain rude. The content in this class is very interesting, but Dr. Wadsworth does everything she can to make you hate it. I have never dreaded going to a class so much. Do not take it
Great for serious students. Have taken 2 upper level classed with her. Tests are a cinch with the study guides - she goes out of her way to make it easy for you to do well, just have to do the reading and study. Papers are not hard - just follow the guidelines and don't wait til the last minute. Won't tolerate phones out in class. Be respectful.
LOVED her classes! You have to put in an effort, which some people don't like to do. As long as you work hard, you will really enjoy the class!
Hard class. For the most part, you don't talk about what you need to know for the test, nor go over textbook material in class. They are run primarily by class input, if you enjoy that kind of thing, take this class.
Dr. Wadsworth is awesome. She is a tough grader but as long as you follow guidelines you will do fine. Course is slightly difficult but she makes it as easy as possible. Provides study guides. Lectures are so boring but as long as you respect her you will do fine.
This class was okay. Material was interesting, would take her again but she can be monotone sometimes. She requires a 5 page single spaced paper at the end of the semester which is something I hated doing. She takes a field trip to the funeral parlor during the semester which was cool. Test are out of the book because her written notes suck.
By far one of the worst professors I've ever had. Extremely boring and dry lectures with no clear organization. She's very monotone and doesn't facilitate a lot of discussion so she lectures the ENTIRE time. The study guides for her exams are so long but her questions really do come directly from them. Also be prepared to hear the same 5 stories.
DO NOT take this class with this professor!!! Her lectures are basically completely unuseful for testing as they too generalized and almost all common sense, but when it comes to the testing time they are super specific questions and from textbook readings. The tests are 120+ questions each and take a toll on your brain.
I've never hated a class more than this one. Wadsworth is extremely unapproachable and will respond to questions with rude and passive aggressive comments. She gives no partial credit for anything and is a tough grader. Only take this class if it's required.
9 times out of 10 it is entirely up to you to figure out and learn what will be relevant to the test. You will teach yourself for this class. My tip is to pay attention to people whose name/work is mentioned in a paragraph or more in the textbook. Pretty much the only things graded are tests.
I took SOC 220 in the Fall 2020 semester. We had one written assignment, which was extremely short, five quizzes, and five tests. Extremely easy course. All of the questions on the tests come from the textbook.
I LOVED Death & Dying with Dr. Wadsworth! Her lectures were very engaging, even at 9:30am. I took this class before COVID so things may have changed, but she was strict on phones and computers. Frustrating at first, but I realized those rules allow you to really pay attention. She really knew what she was talking about. I wish I could take it again
Honestly needs to get fired. The absolute rudest professor I have had in my life. Super aggressive and cannot handle being remotely wrong. Will not help you if you have questions, will just make you feel stupid. Teaching technique sucks and shes super boring. Email replies are plain mean. DO NOT RECOMMEND. She needs to go!
