She is very nice, but grades the papers as if we were in a grad class. I got a B in the class, but I should have had a better grade. She isnt very clear on what she wants with the papers. I would not take another class from her.
She is not easy but she does let you revise your papers after you turn them in, so that you can get a better grade. She is not very clear but is nice and if you know what you do not understand, she is happy to help you. I felt like she was a harsh grader and that my papers should have gotten a higher grade...that's why the revision is nice.
Good. She's pretty clear in my mind about what she expects and what she wants with each paper, she hands out like long detailed handouts and basically walks you through anything regarding research. She has conferences with you to go over papers and lets you revise them for a final grade so if you don't write like a jr. student you should be fine.
At first she seems pretty tough. You'll do a few papers and have assignments daily. Go to class and pay attention and this class is an easy A-. She's really cool once you get her to open up to the class and bring her to friend level rather than teacher/student.
Great Professor! Fun, very thorough. Changed my view on English.
Attendance is mandatory, and usually she has something due every class. Also she has you meet outside of class with her on each paper, so if you have a tight schdule it isn't fun. She is nice and clear on what she is expecting.
Very professional, great teaching style. Helped through each process to develop overall paper ability. Works with students to get grade they want, with effort on your part. Allowed for writing lab to help overall grade.
worst english teacher in the whole entire universe, I will never take a class from her again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Angie is absolutely awesome! Do not be scared by the first week or two of class. She is more than happy to work with students, and does allow revisions. You have to do your part though, so if you slack, she's not gonna be nice about it. If you come to class and do the assignments, chances are pretty high that you will get a good grade.
difficult teacher but willing to help
She expects way too much out of her students, she thinks that her class is the one and only class that we need to focus on. The workload was ridiculous for a 1010 class. I really didn't learn anything, she was very unclear about what she wants, but she sure was picky. It was extremely hard to please her. Beware, she expects way too much.
She was scary at first with all the assignments that were to due starting from the beginning. Almost half our class dropped, but little did they know that she turned out to be very helpful, very clear of what she wants, and we got to do many revisions of our papers, which is helpful when trying to better yourself! If you work hard, A is possible!
Way to much work. She said that she was there to help but that wasn't the case. Read a lot from the textbook, never varied or put own input. I love English was even thinking about making it my major but after having her. NEVER!!
Very Hard teacher!!!!
At first, she was tough as nails. I think that was to whittle out the ones who were looking for an easy A with a summer english class. The workload was slightly overwhelming, but in the end she makes sure that, if you are paying attention, you will actually learn something. I'm hoping to take her classes again sometime!

She is very reactive instead of proactive. We would find out what she was looking for after we wrote the papers and she explained what everyone did wrong. Could have let us know before!!!! Gave us a lot of assignments that I felt were useless and I felt very unprepared for the final paper.
I have never had such a professor before. No matter how hard we work, it is very hard to satisfy her requirements. It is almost impossible to get an A or B.
Very good class, Not soo great teacher. Question everything and write everything down. I wouldn't recommend taking more than 6 credits with this class. It's definitely handful and if you have a "question" the answer is ALWAYS in the syllabus.
She has a lot of handouts and it is sometimes overwhelming. There is a lot of busy work in this class and she checks EVERYTHING which makes you feel like an elementary kid all over again. She is very helpful thought if you need it.
I do not recomend this teacher at all. She wants perfection, imppossible to get the grade you want. She does english her way, your voice will NOT matter. If you want to enjoy the semester do not take this teacher!!!
if you love busy work and semi pointless assignments then this is your teacher other wise DO NOT GET horrible
I loved this class! Angie Carter is such a great teacher. She is so organized and so helpful. The work load may seem a little much at first but it gets easier and all of the assignments are revelvant to the course. I would most definitely reccomend taking this class. I hate english and I really like it :)
Let me put it this way, I'd rather swim the english channel with a paper cut on my chest, get a viral infection and bitten by a shark or drown, rather than take a class from this professor again.
I love Angie Carter!! Her class was so much fun and I learned so much! She is one of the best teachers I've ever had, period.
Mrs. Carter was a good teacher. She makes you earn your grade, which I suppose is good. I took her two times in a row and got an "A" both times. She does grade a little hard but as long as you do what she says, you will be fine. If you want a challenge and you want to learn, take her. If you want an easy "A", then maybe not for you.
Don't get me wrong she is a good teacher and loves English but if your looking for something easy this isn't it. You have nic nac assignments due almost every class. Lots of busy work. Little explanation on assignments. Overall not worth hassle, but not impossible if applied. Have to keep up on assignments. Heavy canvas user.
I have learned the most I have ever learned from Angie Carter then any other english class. Take from her if you want to get better at writing but she is challenging and there is a lot of work.
Great teacher that is willing to help you get your grade that you have to earn. Learned a lot.
Angie rocks, you have to work for your grade, but she makes it doable and is always there to help
TAKE HER IN THE SUMMER!! She is really laid back, and cuts everything down for the summer. There are a lot if assignments but its english 2010, good luck finding a professor that doesnt work your butt off. Everything in her class repares you for the final research paper. She will help if you ask.
She is probably the worst teacher I have had... Terrible at explaining assignments and papers. Classes are fine, but the assignments afterwards are a joke. Unless you already know what you're doing (which most people don't that's why they go to class) you won't understand her writing assignments. good luck. I would take someone else if I were you.
She is horrible. She can't explain well at all! She expects you to already understand everything she is teaching. Isn't that why she is teaching this class? Come on Angie, Teaching means explaining with clarity not confusing the entire class on what you want done! You leave the class guessing on what you want us to do. Figure it out
I really like Angie. She sometimes has a little problem with clarity on assignments, but she's an overall good teacher. As long as you attend class and are willing to work for your grade, you'll be okay.
She was nice most of the time but she was really confusing when she would explain assignments. I felt lost all the time and if you were late to class she would get mad. She wasn't a bad teacher, I just though she got a little cranky sometimes.
The teacher is very hard in the whole world. The teacher doesn't explain the assignments very well. Be careful taking her class
Tough class! Very confusing and difficult to understand exactly what she wanted from you. Class was super dull and everyone was trying to figure out what she expected the entire time making everyone more confused. She knows her stuff, just doesn't know how to explain it! I would highly recommend taking English from a different professor!!!!!!
Her class is demanding, but if you want someone who will actually teach you how to write, there is no better teacher. If you want an easy A, find someone else. Mrs. Carter takes time with LITERALLY EVERY STUDENT to explain what she expects. She does this outside of class, at least three times per semester. Great teacher, highly recommended.
Tough teacher, but you learn a LOT. Many reviews mention how she isn't clear on assignments. She handed out detailed instructions for literally EVERY SINGLE assignment. She was very clear in my opinion. She is an excellent teacher and will take the time to help each student individually. It's not an easy A, but it's a quality one.
she can't control her temper. she is horrible at explaining things. she pulled me into the hall and yelled at me because i was late.. really is this jr. high? she is extremely difficult to work with. don't take her.
Angie has been one of my favorite teachers. Her class is demanding, but I have learned so much! She gives you your major papers back and lets you fix them and re-submit. VERY CLEAR on what she expects. Will meet with you whenever you need, great class!
She is very enthusiastic and appears to love what she does. It is true, that for many of her assignments she is unclear with what she expects. However, she is eager to clarify and assist.
She did not explain things well at all!! She made you feel dumb and she picks favorites.
This class is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Professor carter is not good at explaining things and the work loud is ridiculous!! I spent hours everyday doing the homework for this class. Was confused more then half the time in this class! She needs to explain better. I do not recommend her to anyone!!!!
Don't take this class if you have ADD/ADHD, i have suffered all nighters just so i can have a good grade. half the time i don't understand what im even writing. The material can be fun once you understand but theres just TOO MUCH READING AND HOMEWORK be prepared for late nights. AGAIN don't take it if you have a hard time comprehending things.
Very hard to get an A. I had to put more work in for this 3 credit class than my other 11 credits combined, one of which was Calculus 2. She requires a ton of unnecessary work that she thinks is necessary. I have nothing against her personally, but as a teacher she is ridiculous in what she requires.
I swear this class was harder then my math class. She was confusing when it came to explaining what she wants done in your writing assignments. Gives to much homework, has to high of expectations for a 2010 class. I recommend not to take her class unless you want to be super stressed out your entire semester.
Zbe wouldn't know the term "take it easy" if it bit her in the butt. All the assignments at the end of the semester would have helped at he beginning of the semester. Even when she explains the assignment you still are left with out key information to complete it. She also expects you to know what you want out of the class.
I did not her class al al,She expect you to solve everything yourself. She is pretty awful.
I really enjoyed this class! She grades a little tough on the final papers but easy on smaller assignments. Before every paper is due you have a conference with her and she is really helpful and gives good feedback on your paper so far. She is super helpful and I would recommend Angie for sure!
She is not very well organized. Have conferences for every paper. She might say something in conference but when she grades, it will be different. She likes papers in her opinion, not yours. She explains things and the whole class has no idea what she is talking about. Quizzes happen a lot towards end of years. Not a fan of student-athletes.
Multiple classmates and myself were consistently confused about what is happening and what was due next. Assignments sneak up really quick without notice. I printed off a syllabus and referred to that but missed assignments that were added on out of nowhere. Prof Carter is a nice lady and I enjoyed her as a person but her class had me losing hair
She gives lots of writing assignments, but it all adds up to your final papers. She gave plenty of opportunities to get extra credit.
I really enjoyed the class, Angie gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. I got a stellar grade in her class, I know that other students didn't do as well, but it seemed like they weren't willing to put in much effort. She's very supportive and willing to work with you, makes herself very available. It's not an easy A, but not a hard A either
She's very quirky in personality and you can tell she began her teaching career in middle school -- this becomes more apparent if you misbehave in her class. She doesn't seem to be very respected by students. She's nice and funny and if you meet with her one-on-one, she's incredibly understanding and helpful.
I enjoyed class time, but her course outlines were confusing and she had a packet print-off for each of the papers that were do. Lots of reading assignments that are essential in keeping your grade afloat.
Not overly challenging however you get an unbelievable amount of work to do for an beginner english class. TONS of reading and busy work.
Very confusing on what needs to be done. Everyone in my class was constantly confused on what needed to be done for class the next day. She is very nice and will help you if you ask but isn't going out of her way to help you. She isn't a tough grader so pay attention to what she teaches and her papers are pretty easy.
Angie is a good professor. She listens to students, gets a consensus about how they are feeling, and is humble and helpful. She clearly cares about her students' success, which is the touchstone of good teachers. She fell short when it came to clarity and test creation. The tests caused us exceptional stress, especially with incorrect questions.
I loved this class. Professor Carter was clear and concise on her expectations. She gave valuable feedback on assignments and went over areas of confusion in class. Yes, there is a ton of writing but it is a writing class after all. She wants her students to succeed and this alone makes her a great teacher. It is challenging but I learned so much.
Angie really knows her stuff. She is clear about her expectations and helps you meet them through required conferences. She gives great feedback. I highly recommend this class if you are ready to write many essays. If you are looking for an effortless A, look somewhere else.
She is a bit picky with what she expects from you in your essays, but overall BEST PROFESSOR I had this semester. She's so sweet and genuinely cares about her students. Above all, you will improve your writing if you put forth the effort. Emphasis, on the "putting in effort" part.
I was often confused and what she says in class and what she says on canvas are often very different. I felt like doing the readings was pointless because we would just talk about it in class anyway. Overall, Angie is very sweet and kind and is very willing to clear any confusion but also makes it clear she hates repeating herself... Can be salty.
I started to get 90% on my homework, then my grades started to decline as time passed. Angie is a nice person, but when it comes to grading, she can be WAY too harsh & picky. She docked me for the dumbest things and says I'm plagiarizing but I've cited my sources like I'm supposed to do. She doesn't explain things too well you may get confused!!
She was a good teacher some of her paper explanations can be very lengthy and a bit confusing. If you go to class she helps explain things a lot but if you don't you will be completely lost. Enjoyed her as a teacher and she cares about her students.
Angie was by far my best professor I have had at UVU. Her class isn't easy but if you participate in-class and attend your writing conferences you will learn so much about writing and will be prepared for the rest of college writing assignments. She really cares about her students and is willing to help as long as you ask for it.
3090-Angie is an amazing writer and a really caring teacher. The class is hard, but only because academic writing can be hard. She really wants you to know how to do it well. Sometimes things aren't very clear in class, so ask lots of questions to make sure you understand what is expected! She is always willing to meet with you and help you though.
This was the most EXTRA teacher I have ever had in my life. She has you go all out on an eight page researched argument, all while having you type around 3 other 4-6 page papers that are supposed to "get you into your paper more." It has got to be the most annoying class. She grades extremely hard.
Angie was my best professor. If you're looking to do basically nothing and cake-walk your way through this class, good luck. If you are likable and get on her good side you will succeed and she will ease on the grading. She wants you to improve your writing but it takes you asking questions and understanding what she wants. Participation is key.
You can read and believe whatever you want, but if English is not your major then read thoroughly. She is EXTREMELY difficult to work with. Shows no mercy. I learned NOTHING! She is VERY confusing and expects too much out of this class. I don't understand AT ALL how she got liked by few students on rmp, because she wasn't liked in my class.
Angie is a brilliant writer and a truly dedicated teacher. Big assignments can be a little unclear though, so you will want to meet with her one-on-one for more clarification. Her class was fun. She really made each of us feel like our voices were important. Show up, speak up, and work hard and you will do really well.
Great teacher and a good class, of course there is an ok amount of homework but its not hard to do and if you stay on top of it, then its not bad. You get credit for going to class so go!
She is a nice woman, and easy to talk to out of class, and if you need to extend a deadline she's very easy to talk to about it. However, she gives lots of homework and papers, and many of the instructions she gives are confusing. Definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken.
Dr. Carter asks the most from her students and expects nothing of herself. Our syllabus constantly changed and often without warning. She's a real "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" type when it comes to lectures, so be prepared for low-effort question-answer classes. Groups for peer review lasted through the whole semester.
My biggest problem was pace. She moves so quick in class that it's difficult to pick anything up, often moving on before understanding or hopping back and forth. She has lots of busywork assignments due every week in addition to lots of reading. She's also very strict on tardiness; if you're even two minutes late, it drops your score.
Dr. Carter is extremely knowledgable about the subject of editing. I learned so much this semester. This class is hard. You think you have a grasp on grammar and then you pick up CMS and you realize you have no idea. Dr. Carter is helpful, clear, and fair. Wonderful teacher.
DO NOT TAKE ENGLISH FROM DR. CARTER. I'd rather be stuck in an overflowing bathroom stall inside a 7 eleven on the hottest day in July than be stuck in one of her lectures. I understand quantum physics more than I understand what she wants in her papers. She was not helpful at all in explaining her expectations for assignments/papers.
I worked hard for the A. Lecture heavy. As long as you take time, and really put effort into her papers, you'll do great. Make sure to get her feedback on papers EARLY, and APPLY it. She offers a lot of Extra Cred. There are A LOT of assignments. As you stay on top of things, put effort into all of it, and do Extra Credit as needed, you'll get an A
She is awesome. She moves pretty fast, so be sure to speak up if you do not understand. Do your reading and turn in homework/quizzes on-time and you'll pass. She is also willing to work with you if you work hard and are honest. Very knowledgeable. Responds to emails quickly. Love her!
Gives more assignments than necessary and does it all at once. Also all of the assignments are supposed to help or go towards some of the bigger assignments later on but are pretty much unnecessary. All of her instructions are also very unclear and doesn't match anything on the canvas assignment details.
She is an amazing person, she really cares about her students, and she will reach out if she is worry about you and she is pretty accessible outside class. She moves through things really fast and sometimes her instructions are not clear but if you ask her for help she will help you. The only thing about this class is the workload. Lots of homework
If you have to take this class, take the semester off. Half my class struggled with Coach Carter, and some failed. While the material was great, the class structure was not so with tons of busy work that seems unorganized. Shes extremely vague and just unhelpful when it comes to concerns. Expects grad-level work before you even take the class.
Professor Carter is a nice person but her teaching leaves something to be desired. The work isn't that hard- feels like busywork- but there's a ton of it and most is never mentioned in class. You have to go hunt for it on Canvas. Even short assignments have super long, detailed instructions. She does give extra credit which is nice.
Despite her being great herself, her expectations for almost every assignment is unclear. She uses the canvas courses from previous years but then her expectations on assignments have changed so often her in class instructions and canvas instructions don't line up. Also, I didn't read the textbooks after my first week and I still got an A
She is an amazing person, but her class is so much to take on.. I was constantly having to write a paper and was getting docked points for things that were not on the instructions but they just happened to be on the rubric. There was not enough clear instruction.
Coach Carter sets unrealistic expectations for this class considering it is a gen ed course. Expect to spend 15+ hours per week dedicated to this class. Grading expectations are unclear, and the course is hard to follow. I am walking away from this class with confidence in myself as a writer gone. Don't take this class unless you hate yourself.
You end up having a lot of dead time where the lectures do not further your knowledge about the class. She also tends to overly complicate topics and simple tasks.
She has been by far the worst professor I've had at UVU. Extremely strict on grading, way to many papers and alot of busy work, super strict on attendance and also docs points for being late, she doesn't communicate about her assignments very well in class and relies heavily on the textbook to teach students. Also Canvas layout is very complicated.
She posts assignments and the instructions literally make zero sense and she grades so harshly. For every hour of class you have double the amount of homework
She was so strict on attendance. For every hour you spent in class you would spend double the amount of time at home doing homework.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She grades so harshly and grades on attendance. You will also lose points if you are late to class so welcome back to highschool! Work load was heavier then all my other classes combined.
Professor Carter should not be allowed to teach. When she speaks it is like a word salad and you don't know what she is talking about. Because of her lack of communication skills, she buries you with instructions on canvas that also make no sense. Her canvas is not organized and it is hard to read and follow. This was a painful class.
Save yourself and do not take this class, it's pure torture, and she should not be allowed to teach.
STAY AWAY FROM CARTER! This was a joke. What good is a professor who can't provide clear guidelines to help students enjoy gen-ed writing courses? Ask a question and be prepared to be even more confused when she attempts to answer. It makes no sense how she is still employed.
FANTASTIC professor! She took class at a quicker pace but always left time for questions. You work in groups for most of the semester so prepare for that. She gives out quizzes every week based on the lectures but gives you multiple attempts to make sure you understand it. Overall great professor, would definitely take this class again
She is nice and cares deeply, but the class was disorganized. The course is set up in a confusing way on Canvas. The group work lasted the whole semester & I didn't learn about editing. The lectures focused on grammar & she went through things quickly, but would never finish on time. We were always behind. My group never knew what was going on.
Expect to write a LOT. Prof gives good feedback + peer and prof review for every assignment (which is nice in my opinion). She's very willing to work with you outside of class if you need. Instructions are very thorough and its all on Canvas. Keeping up with the textbook readings and assignments is important. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Carter is passionate, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would recommend her class to anyone wanting to learn how to edit. Naturally, there is quite a bit of reading, but it's all relevant. Her canvas is organized and she gives clear instruction and feedback. She's also available to help whenever need be. I absolutely recommend her!
Coach Carter has been super scatter brained throughout the entire semester, and would never have her Canvas class schedule set, moving it around because she would forget her own due dates. She's gives good 1 on 1 feedback, but relies on peer reviews too much, and since my team didn't know the material, they gave bad feedback dropping my A- to C-.
I absolutely loved Coach Carter as a professor, so much so that I'm taking her for my English 2010 class. She gives a TON of extra credit - trust me. The papers that I turned in were questionable but, since she had so many extra credit opportunities I didn't need to worry. Literally, I suck at English and I finished the class with a 110%.
The attendance is so strict, the class is very assignment heavy, and the instructions make no sense. If you ask a question be prepared to be even more confused. Her canvas format is confusing and her grading is incredibly strict as well.
Our final portfolio was 26 pages. She weeded people out to make her job easier. At least ten people dropped including my roommate on the 1st day. She treated people who asked questions horribly witch kept them from asking more. When test scores weren't good she got mad and had a tangent about us not asking questions.
This is one of the worst managed classes I have ever had. The teacher constantly forgot things, got behind schedule, and poorly explained things. Her assignment descriptions for BASIC assignments can be 9 pages long. She would not clearly answer my questions via email. Every other honors student I talked to agreed that her class was poorly managed.
This class was my most homework-heavy course. There are a ridiculous amount of assignments, most of which feel extremely tedious and redundant. All instructions are overly wordy and only serve to confuse us more. Very little is clear, yet the grading is incredibly strict. She is generous with EC opportunities at least... Overall, quite frustrating.
This was unexpectedly my hardest class, even more than my 6-credit math. It was disorganized, and none of us knew what was going on. Class time felt wasted on random assignments unrelated to our paper. The instructions were stressful and repetitive. However, Professor Carter is very willing to help if you attend writing meetings and ask questions.
Prof Carter's class is tough, but with unstuckstudy and dedication, you can succeed. Assignments are rigorous but provide good feedback. Consider taking this class if you're up for the challenge.
