She's very nice and soft spoken.Lectures are an open discussion most of the time from the Course Reader(read it, it will be on the final!).Lots of movies in class, grades are on 2 papers, 1 group presentation and a take home final.Very laid back class, I actually enjoyed it :)
Great professor! She is very easy. Attendance is pretty much mandatory since she has you sign your name on a paper everyday. If you miss a certain number of classes, than your grade could go down a full letter grade so go! You don't need to do much reading, just pull a few quotes out and tack them into your essay. :)
She doesn't seem well versed in the subject she's teaching and her grading curriculum for assignments isn't completely clear but she's nice and I barely went to class and got an A by doing well on essays.
this lady has NO idea what she is talking about. I used to enjoy womens studies until I entered her class. She has no control over her students and there is no flow to her lecture or powerpoints. Basically I sit there and learn nothing for an easy A.
She's a little timid for my taste, as far as feminist professors go, but she's quite nice. One of my more boring WS classes, but not a total loss in terms of subject matter. A couple essays and mult. choice exams, plus one group project. I've come to expect group work in these types of classes, so if you hate that, I would generally avoid.
She really opened my eyes in this course. The discussions were informative and engaging. Good use of film as a different media for us to learn the material. It was a lot of fun!
She has a hard time giving a consistent argument. She definitely teaches more about her opinion then the actual subject matter. Though there was one topic I thought was interesting, the rest was like being in a 1970's class room. The good news is, if you completely write to her opinion you will get an A in the class.
The course is interesting. She is very nice, flexible and understanding. She encourages you to think critically and see the world in more global perspectives.
She is really nice and supportive, a really good listener. I learned a lot from her class. I really like the films we watched.
She is a great teacher! Her class really changed my outlook.
I love this class. It's very inspiring! She is very passionate about what she teaches and motivates us for social change. She is easy to approach, and will help you out if you need extra help.
She is a wonderful prof! In this economic hard times, it's nice to know some professors still really care.
She has a soft voice when she lectures, but I really enjoy her class. The discussions are informative and fun!
There is a lot of reading and writing for the class, but the discussion and lectures are interesting and the films are informative. I really enjoy Prof Hua's class!
Prof Hua is very flexible, open and patient. The topic she teaches is very emotional and powerful. I really enjoy your class!
great class! hua makes it interesting with films and presentations. really interesting readings
Interesting class and very easy. Lectures were boring but the films and readings taught me a lot.
Women in Asian Societies is a great class! Prof Hua is an excellent teacher. I learned a great deal about Asian women and their conditions in the US and in the world.
Hua is open, understanding and flexible. I learned a lot in this class. She really cares about her students. I love the films and lectures, although there is a lot of reading.
I can understand why people might dislike her,but overall she is a good teacher. She's very quiet&the class tends to drag on, but the topic is interesting. A short writing assignment,a group presentation,a research paper of about 8-10 pages, and a final paper is assigned.Didnt use the course reader a lot,too expensive.
Hua is a caring teacher, flexible and accommodating. The class deals with difficult subjects. She is a bit quiet, but she is a good teacher.
Hua is a great prof. I have taken 2 classes with her, and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Hua has taught me to be a better person, more open, empathetic, just, and kind...
This class is a poli sci and Iscor elective, so its not the typical women's studies population if you know what I mean. Anh is way too softspoken and disconnected to be a teacher in my opinion, but I got through the class with an A. Go to class or stay long enough to sign in, do the assignments and pretend to care about it, and you should be fine.
This is a great class, by far my favorite. Discuss interesting topics I never learned before like diaspora and migration. I wish more classes like this are offered.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I love all Women's Studies at SDSU, great prof!
I learned a lot about women, migration, memory, diaspora, etc. Great class! Hua is sweet and kind, and creates a safe space for learning that is productive. Very open. Creative assignments integrating research, autobiographies, poetry, family history.
I took 2 classes with Dr. Hua. Great teacher! She empowers women of color!
This was an extremely easy class. ya, im not gona lie, it was hard sitting through some of the lectures as a guy but if you just speak your mind she respects that and its refreshing to have some in class discussion, but dont be too blunt because it is a women studies class and you must respect that fact. Go to class to get attendance points
Dr. Hua's class really opened my life and changed me. She is a lot of fun, compassionate, caring, and a very flexible person. A lot of what she teaches helps me to understand my life, my identity, the importance of history, memory, migration. I learned to value the experience of women/girl of color and marginalized communities.
I love professor Hua! There is a lot of readings and writing in her class, but she is one of the most caring and supportive professors I have ever met. She is very passionate about she teaches.
Professor Hua is simply GREAT! She is soft spoken, but don't mistake that for unintelligence. She is intelligent, caring, and overall a great person. A few great books and a couple small papers, nothing impossible. You won't regret it! :)
Sweetest little woman in the world! She is very flexible and understanding in terms of life/student needs. The actually class was pretty boring and it was hard to focus at times. The books were relatively simple to read, some were boring, others not so much. A bit nit-picky when it comes to grading, but oh well.
Professor Hua is GREAT! One of the most sweetest, compassionate and open woman. She is very intelligent and flexible to student needs. We read interesting novels, memoirs, poetry and saw a couple of interesting films. A creative project, essay, one group presentation, an exam, & reading responses.
Professor Hua is wonderful! Her Women and Literature class is a lot of fun. Every week we study something different from novels, poetry, short stories, independent films, spoken word performance, theories. Hua encourages students to write creatively, to not be afraid to express their opinions and talents, to think outside the box.
Professor Hua is patient, compassionate and open person. She spends a lot of time to make us feel like we matter. Her teaching style is different in that she encourages students to share their thoughts in class, and to learn not only from her but from other students as well.
This class was a piece of cake! She takes attendance every class. We read 5 books in the semester in which we're very interesting. Class time is pretty chill, take notes, talk, review books and watch movies. She is always clear about what she wants on her papers and the assignments. She answers any questions you may have. Take it!
Dr. Hua is intelligent, caring, and organized teacher. I love her class and learned a great deal. She really cares about the well-being of her students. She is very passionate about what she teaches.
Hua is really nice, but it was way more work than I thought it would be. As long as you follow directions to her essays, you'll be fine. We read 5 books, but I only finished one of them and got an A- in the class. Pretty easy to get by.
It's a lot of reading - 5 novels/memoir. Dr. Hua is a wonderful professor, very caring, one of the most compassionate person I have ever met. She encourages students to do more creative research. The novels, poetry and films are great. It really opened my eyes to women and writing in different cultures.
Dr. Hua is wonderful! She's just the sweetest thing ever. The class is interesting and covers poetry, novels, films, and a lot of discussion. Really interesting and not very difficult. Attendance/participation is required, but I promise its worth it :)
If you are taking this class as a GE class, find another class that is less time consuming. It was very interesting but overall not worth it. Lovely Professor that is passionate about the subject but focuses more on grammar and punctuation on papers rather than the content.
Dr. Hua is a wonderful professor. She is very sweet and kind, one of the most caring teachers. A very cool young woman!
Professor Anh Hua is one of my favorite professors at SDSU. She is a passionate teacher - so brilliant, nice, kind and just the sweetest thing ever.
This class is very easy. Attendance is taken daily. I read all the assigned books, but it is not necessary. The final is take home and is an essay based on three of the readings. There hardest part of this class was a six page essay. I definitely recommend it as a GE requirement!
Really easy but really boring. This was my first women's studies class & I was excited to take it but it was disappointing. I read only 2 out of 5 books and only one set of poems she assigned over the semester. Read at least 2-3 books and watch all the movies in class and you'll be fine. Oh, there's a group presentation too.
This was a challenging, engaging class. Professor Hua is absolutely wonderful. She is very organized, creative, knowledgeable. We do very creative things in class like the creative project and writing poetry. You have to read 5 books, poetry, short stories, and watch 4 films. She does a good job analyzing race/racism, gender, and sexuality.
Professor Hua is an amazing, and sweet professor! She's always willing to help her students in any way. She responds back to every email. She's such an amazing professor!
Overall, Dr. Hua is very patient, thorough and helpful. The course is a bit labor intensive, but she was always available for guidance. There are three written papers due, including the final exam-plus a group presentation. 5 novels and several poems were read; 3 films were shown. Overall, a very worthwhile course to take with this instructor.
She has a group oral presentation (you can talk about anything that is related to women), 6-7 books to read (not required), one creative activity (poem), 3 in class films to watch, and an essay. The final was a take home based on the film, reading, and class notes. Don't read the book, just take good notes and your GOOD! no tests or quizzes. BORING
Three papers and a final. Supposed to read several books and also watch three films but you can pass without doing them. Barely went to class and ended up with an A-. She's also really sweet and nice.
Takes attendance via daily sign in sheet, but I missed all the time & got an A. Interesting films & books. A lot to read (about a book every 2 weeks) Lectures are a little boring. Hua is very sweet & understanding, but her TA grades hard. One creative project, one group project, one essay, take home final.
Professor Hua is amazing, very compassionate. She encourages students to use art as a form of individual and collective healing. Great prof!
Professor Hua is absolutely wonderful. She is definitely one of my favorite prof at SDSU. I recommend her courses. You will learn a great.
2 creative assignments. 1 group presentation. 1.(6) page essay. 1 final take home exam. She's a tough grader but her TA usually grades and is a much easier grader. She's soft spoken and nice but boring. Attendance & friday online components count as participation. (hybrid course)
Really sweet, helpful, lovely lady. Material she chooses is not for novices, but it is interesting. Make sure you bring your writing skills to the table because this class is an essay-based grade. As long as you read, you'll be fine, because she's a fair grader. Lectures are on the dryer side but not boring if you like feminist literature!
Chill class. The movies and books we were introduced to were very interesting. You don't even need to read all of them although you should. She's really sweet. It was basically a simple GE class to take. Didn't cause stress.
Prof. Hua is a great lecturer and such a sweet woman. She assigns amazing novels I never would've read on my own and really opened my eyes to women's experiences. Her TA grades assignments and it's near impossible to get full points, but you can contest grades with Hua if you feel it was graded too harshly. It's a difficult class but 100% worth it.
She has four assignments: A creative project, a 6 page essay, a group project, and a take home final. Her TA will grade everything, and ultimately your grade is based off the TA, and it is difficult to gain full credit. You have the option to contest your grade, and she has online discussion boards, with notes posted. Keep the notes for the final.
Prof Hua is wonderful, very kind, warm, attentive, and organized. She really cares about her students. You do have to read and write a lot, 5 novels total. The books and films are well chosen. The course forces me to read books I would never know about.
Hua is a wonderful professor. Dialogues are helpful in class. Lectures are clear. Good readings and films. OVerall, a fine person, really caring and warm.
Hua is so sweet and caring. 5 books seem like a lot but I love reading so that wasn't a problem. The 3 films we watched were a bit depressing for me. Attend class for lecture notes. Only challenging thing about this class was that her TA grades the assignments pretty harsh and strict but you are able to contest your grades. Good class overall.
All of your grades in this class will be based off of the TA, and if you contest it Hua just agrees. I never met the TA in office hours but that would probably help you more. Hua just seems really detached and uninterested. The books were good and so were the films but I tried so hard and couldn't get an A, and she was no help at all.
Professor Hua is a caring thoughtful fun teacher. She is always there for you. The class provides good readings -- 5 novels. We watch 3 really great films on sexual identities. I wish more professors are like her -- really compassionate and helps you with your writing.
Hua gives very detailed lectures. If you do all your readings, write well, take notes for lectures, and participate in class you should do well. She wants you to work hard and improve your writing. It's not an easy class. You have to read a lot -- 5 books, some poetry, watch 3 films. She is inspiring. You will love feminism after that.
I love all the Women's Studies professors at SDSU. Hua looks young but she is very sweet and caring. You will love the class. Lots of work but enjoyable. She pushes you to think more critically and dialogues in class are more open and safe.
Hua is kind thoughtful sweet. She makes the time to chat with students. Very passionate about what she teaches. The class is empowering. A fine person and a great course.
She is SWEET. She genuinely cares about her students and wants to help everyone learn more about feminism in a peaceful manner. The books and lectures are average, certainly nothing spectacular. One group project that is a bit of a pain. For the research paper, make sure you RESEARCH. That is the one assignment she grades hard on. But she is great!
i'm not a womens studies major, never read a thing in her class and didn't show up too much but I still got an A in the class. she's super sweet and clearly cares for her students.
Professor Hua is amazing! She is inspiring and caring. Definitely one of my favorite class.
Dr. Hua is wonderful. She creates a safe environment to be more personal and creative. You have to like to read a lot in this class, 5 novels. She shows great films and also gets students to write poetry and creative project. She is quite funny and caring.
She is a very sweet and soft-spoken lady, she clearly loves what she teaches. One of the easiest courses I've taken in college, you don't need to take notes or even buy the books- just show up to class and do the essay projects. I like that she included creative writing projects. If you DO like reading though, the books are interesting reads.
Love her! If you don't read the books then make sure you attend all the lectures because she goes over the whole book and author. The essays aren't extremely easy but they are not horrible either because you get options on what to write about. She is very sweet and understanding. She is an amazing professor!
Going into it I was not sure what to expect from this class. BUT I AMM SOOO GLAD LAST MIN I took it!!! We had would have class discussions on interesting topics that would make class exciting. It felt like a very safe space to talk about anything. I loved the movies and she's a SWEETIE !!! Just show up to class you won't regret it :)
One of the nicest teachers I have ever taken. Professor Hua is soft spoken, so nice and so understanding. I messed up the format for one of our essays and still got an A and got an A on our final just for "being brave enough to present". Don't buy the 3 reading books because I never opened them, she talks about them but it's not for your grade.
An angel sent from above! Seriously the sweetest person I've ever met. Small intimate class stye with great class discussions. No books need to be bought if you go to class because she goes over them. No tests! Watch great movies and read poetry. 1 research paper but very easy grader, all you have to do is try. Easy A and interesting material.
She's the sweetest. You write a few poems, read some cool books, write a doable essay and then take an easy take home final based on like 2 or 3 books of your choice from the semester. AKA you don't have to read all the books! She's a pretty easy grader, just show you care. You won't regret taking her!!!
Professor Hua is seriously the kindest soul you'll ever meet. She is such an inspirational woman. Her class is very interesting and consists of analyzing a couple poems, films, essay, and a group project. Protect her at all costs!!
Professor Anh is the most caring and understanding person. She is down to earth very lovely with her lectures. You leave her classes feeling fulfilled because you learned some important tools that help you see the world differently. She helped me get out of my shell more and share my own perspective on topics. My favorite professor at SDSU take her
If you are interested in Women in Film this is the class for you! She used Zoom to watch film together it was very nice to be able to communicate and have class each week during this pandemic. She helped ease anxiety. Extremely helpful when things got busy she gave you an extension. THE NICEST PERSON it makes my day to go into her class each week.
This class was inspirational it is very important course since it talks about the many issues Women go through in our world. Her lectures break down contributions in societal influences. She has great readings/film in class. She is passionate about her job. Very sweet and understanding when you need help on any assignments. Love her classes!!!
She is very sweet. Not a lot of assignments. She gave you very much more than one prompt in an essay for you to pick. Not require attendant during the Covid. Everything is very straightforward at the beginning, which assignments you will need to do. She's very flexible about extending the deadline for assignments.
Sooo much writing, but a really easy grader. What makes her outstanding though, is how sweet she was during the class. She truly cares about students, and it 100% shows. Thank you Hua!
Highly recommend if you need extra units and looking for an easy A! You won't regret it and teacher is accessible outside of class if you need help.
This is probably the easiest A I have ever gotten. But I left the class always thinking about the subject, so easy and effective. Really enjoyed her personality, was fun!
Professor Hua is probably one of the best professors I have had at SDSU. She actually cares about the students and understands that we have a life outside of her class. Each lecture what informative and I enjoyed all the movies we watched relating to the course. The final was a very do-able final which was a breath of fresh air. Take her!!
Professor Hua is a gem in the womens studies department! Her classes are so engaging, interesting, and never boring. Although theres only about 5 assignments as long as you do them youll pass. Shes also very understanding and allows for extensions if needed. Why anyone would give her lower than a 5 rating is beyond me. Take her!
Take Hua if you can, she is literally an angel. This class is so interesting and she really cares about her students. There were 3 or 4 projects and for 2 you have to present but the class is only like 20 people so its not hard at all. Heavy reading at the beginning of the semester, but it helps later on when you need to use citations in papers.
Prof. Hua is one of the most caring and engaging professors I've ever taken. I learned a lot more about intersectionality and other important topics through this class. There are four major assignments throughout the whole semester, all very doable. I would totally recommend that you take this class.
She really likes hearing what her students have to say in class. There is sometimes a lot of reading, more so at the beginning of the semester, but by the middle, it's more documentaries. The assignments are very easy only 3 grades (2 essays and 1 final). You'll have to "buy" 3-4 books on redshelf, but you can get for free online.
Professor Hua is seriously the sweetest professor that I've ever had in my time at state. The class is based off of 3 assignments that include a creative project, an essay, and a film review or presentation based on your essay. The assignments are graded super generously! If you get the chance you absolutely need to take one of her courses!!!
Dr. Hua is one of the most laid-back and sweet professors I have ever met. The course itself was interesting, but make sure you like to read as there were multiple weeks where a whole book needed to be read in only a few days (unless you planned ahead). There were only a few assignments, but she is an easy grader. Super accommodating as well!
This is by far the easiest class I have ever taken in college. Professor Hua is so caring and genuinely wants everyone to pass with an A in the class. Her lectures aren't mandatory all the time and are very chill. Highly recommend taking this class with her as you will not regret it. Easy A and GPA boost.
Prof Huas class was super fun to take and easy. 3 assignments and 1 take home final. She grades generously and provides feedback on assignments. Her assignments were fun to do esp poetry one. She's very passionate about her teachings, and she's kind I would recommend taking her class.
We need more professors like Dr Hua! Very passionate about the subject & is engaging w/the class. 3 easy creative writing assignments & one final we complete on our own time, w/open notes. One class meeting where she set academics aside & wanted us to talk about how we felt about the semester or in general & she will hear you out. Very Supportive!
Dr. Hua is an amazing professor with care to her students' well-beings and reciprocation of energy in class. She is understanding of feedback in assignments as well as feedback on her own content. Sometimes it felt like pulling teeth when asking for participation in class discussions and it could get awkward at times. I would take her courses again
Excellent professor, caring, understanding, not a heavy grader, has the best interest for her students. We only had around 4 assignments throughout the semester, gives great feed back. She responds quick to her messages/email.
The sweetest professor ever! She cares about her students so much, not just academically but also emotionally. Very few assignments that were easy to complete. Complete all the assignments, and you are guaranteed to end with an A. I loved that there were no tests and that the final was a paper. Highly recommend this GE and professor!
Anh is so chill and cares about her students' success. Only 4 assignments (3-4 page essays) throughout the semester, no exams! As long as you do the work, you'll receive an A. She does take attendance during class, but she will still give you full attendance points at the end of the semester, even if you don't attend. 100% recommend taking her!
She is such an incredible professor! She truly cares about her students and is so encouraging. There are only a couple big assignments and she's not a harsh grader. We watched 4 movies in class and read 4 books. None of the assignments were on the books except for the final, but definitely read them! They're great books. Take her!!!
Super awesome professor! Very clear on grading and provides helpful feedback. Makes the course engaging and fun by showing movies in class, which really helps connect the material to real-life examples.
Easy class. Assignments were always take home. Some readings, some films. Don't really have to keep up with the work that much, just have to know what's going on. She is so caring, for finals & midterms she does them early so you dont have to worry about the stress of your other classes on top of this one. She even does healing circles
Anh is one of the most caring professors I've had. 3 major assignments and the final. If you do the work and put effort in, you are graded more than fairly. She is so sweet and understanding. Take her if you can, she is amazing!
This is by far one of the easiest classes I have taken. If you are trying to fill in Gen Ed.'s or literautre, take Anh! There were only 4 assignments throughout the semester, no exams, and she doesn't force participation. While attendance was mandatory, she was very understanding of me needing to leave a little early for work. Loved this class!
Only three papers, and one exam, which is a short written paper, you have three weeks to complete. Super easy A, she's super kind and easy to talk to, and the lectures are pretty easy-going. Take her if you can!
Easy A+ for GPA boost. Boring lecture topic but she really cares. Great professor but boring topic.
