Gives you a second chance by not counting the midterm if you do well on the final. She's a great teacher!

she is an excellent teacher, very thorough. she has a different sense of humor

She explains lectures clearly. She doesn't assign too many problems for homework. Reasonable tests.
very clear explanations
great teacher. easy to understand, interesting lectures

ok professor, not great, not bad
Excellent teacher
i love prof. adhikari!
Statistics itself is fairly dull but Adhikari picks interesting examples in lecture and tells the best personal stories which might or might not be related to what we're studying. Wry sense of humor, cool British accent.
she was great. Her work was simple and didn't give us useful info. she is so helpful so take advantage of it.
A good professor, but speaks too fast sometimes.
don't believe her when she says that the midterm will be easy.
Clear and Helpful. Highly recommended. Much easier than other professors teaching Stat 2.
she is a very clear and well-spoken professor, but she expects things to be done a certain way. lectures get long and the midterms are hell. oh, and don't forget to write pounds or percent or units after your answers on quizzes or else it's all wrong. there is no such thing as partial credit.
one of the best teachers I've ever had
Professor Adhikari is a very thorough teacher who tells you exactly what she wants from students. She's tough, but good. Her comic relief is hilarious and a great change from the seriousness of her teachings. All in all, she's a very good professor.
She's quite witty, and thorough as a professor, but her lectures can get boring and can discourage people from going. I thought the midterm and final were a little tricky, but I don't like word problems
She is really witty and humorous. The midterm is really easy, but the final is extremely tricky. This class depends way tooo much on the final tho, and you really dont know what your grade is going to be until you take the final
adhikari is actually a really great teacher, but her class sucks because it is basically based on the final, which is very tricky. quizzes are very easy, but the midterm and final are hard and no partial credit screws one over. very discouraging class.

Great professor, very clear lectures, easy class.. Just stay on top of things and do the homework.
The truth is she is very type-A and unfriendly in her teaching style. No partial credit is given and the tests are tricky and deceptive. Also yells at students in office hours, unless she takes a liking to you.
Extremely inspiring and energetic woman! Actually got me interested in numbers, which i used to hate!
No one knows her material better, nor explains it so thoroughly. There are lots of tricks to statistics, but Adhikari does her best to teach you those tricks as well as to solve problems just based on the knowledge she gives you. Incredibly funny too.
Her midterm and finals are not representative of the examples that she gives in class. They are much more difficult. She is a very agressive and sometimes intimidating.
Adhikari is one of the best. She's VERY clear about what she wants and is sensitive to our needs. Advice: go to lec (it saves time), and understand WHY more so than HOW. FORCE yourself to grasp theory! If you want a good intro course or if you have to take stat 2, def take it from her, but keep up and know that the curve will be high. Good luck!!
V. good intro stats class. She is a great professor-great lecturer, v. clear/concise, no-nonsense, good examples, etc. Quizzes, MT, and Final were all fair. Class is only out of 100 points...so you're lost if you do poorly on more than 1 quiz (get to drop one) or on the final. Perfectly manageable if you go to all lectures and keep up.
She's ****...... very arrogant and doesn't care about other people's feeling.
I think she is a great professor. She is very clear and concise with her teaching. The only downside is the grading.. her quizzes are okay, but midterm is a killer. Despite my bad grade in the class, I still like her and would recommend her.
Although statistics is crappy overall, she at least has some enthusiasm for it and though it didn't rub off AT ALL, her lectures were tolerable, especially since there were so many numbers involved. If you're going to take Stats at Berkeley, you minus well take it with her.
I love this woman! She is very entertaining and presents the material very clearly. Tests are CHALLENGING, not tricky. I would definitely recommend taking Stat 2 with her. The only problem I had was that the class is only out of 100 points (I still got an A-). Just do the work and you'll be fine!
This class goes at an easy pace and the professor is very organized and concise in lecture. Her quizzes are fair but her midterm and final killed me. She likes to ask tricky questions that makes u think.
Prof Adhikari is the best professor I've had thus far. She is organized, time-efficient, concise, and very clear in explaining concepts. It's because she's experienced in teaching stats, and it shows when she stops to ask if there are any questions. Her quizzes are quite fair, but midterm and final will definitely require a deeper understanding.
best professor I ever had. incredibly clear and concise. You can see she really does care that you learn the materical behind her tough-love attitude. incredibly helpful and sarcastically funny.
great lectures
As always, Adhikari shows her enthusiasm for teaching through her clarity and concern for students. Quizzes are easy; STUDY for the midterm and final, especially the tricky, subtle points she makes in class. You might learn about 85% from just reading the book, but her lectures are DEFINITELY worth going to. If given the choice, go with Adhikari.
many trick questions not covered in class. graded on the curve, every point counts.
she is very nice, and teaches very well. Even though I did not do well in the class, but i will still suggest take Stat 135 with her. keep in mind that the book is so bad writen.
Adhikari is the reason I stayed in school and didn't drop out. Enthusiastic, passionate, caring, witty, super intelligent, friendly, challenging, clever, funny, and a pleasure to wake up early for an intriguing lecture.
Adhikari gives good lectures and teaches stats well. Although she teaches well, and makes sure there are no questions during lecture, her tests are not very fair. She likes to give trick questions and question types that were not covered in class. There is hw that is not turned in, but essential to learn the material. Quizzes as well.
Prof Adhikari is a very engaging and clear professor. However, her tests are pretty tough. Also, you can learn all the material from the book so whether you go to class or not all depends on which method of learning you like better, lecture or book.
Adhikari is a very practiced teacher. Her lectures are clear, helpful and she won't waste your time. That said, her tests are the devil. Make sure youre getting in the actual percent range of your desired grade (i.e. 90% and above for an a, etc), and dont listen to the stats for the exam because in the end there will NOT be a curve.
Very condescending. Extremely rude during her office hours.
EVERYONE does worse than they expect in this class. Not an easy class. The exams are very hard, though Adhikari is a nice professor and tries to be fair.
She gives crystal clear lectures which are extremely dry but helpful. Tests are hard, though, because you really need to understand the concepts rather than memorize standard solutions to problems. Make sure you do the homework and do well on her quizzes. Don't stress about the MT since you can drop it (I failed the MT but still got A grade)
Still taking class. She is tough, but very good. Fair grading scheme. Good amount of HW. Go to the SLC. Definitely recommended. She has a good sense of humor. Very serious, does not waste your time.
She is exceptionally skilled at teaching statistics. Doesn't go too fast, never makes a question seem stupid, writes everything clearly. Great sense of humor. Lectures so well, I actually overestimated my understanding of the material. If you actually do at least some of the optional homework, you should be fine. I still got a B-.
Professor Adhikari is always thorough and clear in lectures. She gives helpful examples. Attend her office hours if you have trouble with homework and I guarantee that you'll come away with many insights. She has very clear-cut expectations, so just do what she asks and you'll be fine. She also has a wicked sense of humor. Definitely recommended!
she is an excellent professor! i just went to class and i wasnt even in it! she applies stats to the physical world! she should win the nobel prize!!!
Professor Adhikari is extremely challenging. This was both good and bad for me. This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, and she does not slow down. However, that just meant I had to find ways to keep up. If you're committed and go to her office hours, you'll learn a lot and will be proud of your final grade, no matter what it is.
Excellent teacher, but I definitely would not have gotten through the class without my high priced tutor.
I loved her and this class! She has taught intro stats/this class for over a decade and was clear in her lectures. She always took the time to ask for questions more than once in every lecture. Her exams are fair as long as yuo come to lecture, do the hw, and and the practice problems she posts for exams and quizzes. Don't take anyone else!
Adhikari is a very helpful professor. She actually cares about students' well-being and tries to be as clear as possible. Still, the class is much more difficult than it seems. A lot of students end up doing worse than expected.
This class is hard, but Adhikari is an awesome professor. You can't really blame her for the difficulty of the course, because she does an excellent job in providing examples. There's plenty of help for the class (OH, SLC) if you choose to use it (and I recommend that you do). You'll get out what you put into the class.
A very clear professor and well paced. Although this is "Stat 2", not everyone will end up with an "A". Beware, the stupid students seem to do better. The more intelligent ones are too conceited to study and will be careless -- possibly getting the lower grade.
Hands down, one of the best professors here at Berkeley. Super clear during lecture. Makes what we are learning tangible and practical. Very logical person, and she can be quite funny. During some lectures, she walks on water. She is OG for real!
she has a ton of experience teaching the class so she knows exactly where students usually makes mistakes and will warn you against doing so. she's one of the best professors i've seen at cal. she's impeccably clear, her boardwork is easy to follow, and she even makes funny jokes and tells interesting stories. take this class with her..not purves.
Prof. Adhikari is a really great lecturer, and attending lectures is both mandatory and enjoyable. She makes the course harder than it is, but she makes it really fun and exciting as well. The atmosphere she sets in class is well-disciplined. There's only 1 midterm(you will encounter 1-2 difficult problems), and performing well on it is important.
Her lectures are very clear and easy to follow. However, make sure you can do the problems outside of class as well. I recommend getting a study-buddy or two (this really helps). She also gives problems that are recommended but not required-do them. I didn't do well in the class because I tried to do all the work on my own and didn't ask for help.
She is a great professor! You really have to keep up, and lectures are highly highly recommended if you want to get an A. She follows the book very closely, but her examples are what will be on the tests. But she really cares about the students and she is funny and entertaining. Take it with her.
The fundamental concepts for Stats is relatively easy and the class is very slow paced. The only difficult part is that the avg. for the midterm is so high that you can't really miss a problem if you want an A.
Worst professor. She assigns homework from the book, but her tests are not even remotely like the book, she expects you to know equations that are not in the book + doesn't give them to you before hand +5-6 chps a week, terrible professor, but she thinks she's all that because she runs the stat department + people suck up to her all the time!!!!!!
An amazing lecturer. No one expects stat class to be hard so the low easiness goes without saying. She has depth of knowledge on this field of study, and her examples always highlight the most important aspects of different methods. I went to every lecture, not because I forced myself to, but because it was fun.
She is not a nice person. A lot people dislike her. Homework is too much. Totally don't recommend her!!!
Fantastic Professor! She expected nothing short of hard work and dedication when it came to homework in her class(HW was very difficult and R heavy). Sometimes she could be rude and wasn't very helpful in OH because she doesnt believe in giving you the answers. Lectures were so amazing i made sure not to miss a single one!
The class is competitive but she teaches the materials very well
I AM IN LOVE WITH HER. Despite being a straight female. This professor is amazing. And kind of terrifying. But mostly just an excellent teacher. SO glad I'm getting to take her class.
Adhikari's lectures are crystal clear and really engaging. Hands down, one of the best profs at explaining difficult concepts of any department. She might not look the most approachable, but I have found her to be very helpful and to give really good advise.
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about her subject, a pleasure to learn from.
She's a really awesome and friendly professor. She's open to her students and I think that's what makes it easy for knowledge to be exchanged between her and her students
i lover her teaching style
Unusually good
Her enthusiasm and clarity makes the learning process enjoyable. She has a real knack for engaging the students, and I feel truly blessed to have been afforded the opportunity of learning from her.
Wonderful, hilarious professor who is passionate about the subject. Keep up with homework, even if its not mandatory, and midterms and the final were somewhat hard but nevertheless fair. I think that if I spent more time I definitely would have gotten an "easier A". Study past quizzes and midterms for the final!
She is one of the best professor I have ever had in my life. I will be always grateful for her best teaching..
Very clear and precise
Prof. Adhikari is one of the best professors at UCB. She incorporates humor into her lectures and is very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. You definitely learn a lot from her class. The quizzes were relatively easy, but the midterm and especially the final were killer... so watch out!
Hands down the best professor I've had at Berkeley. I hated statistics coming into this course, but I ended up attending every lecture and enjoying it! Adhikari is humorous, clear, concise and fair. I loved her, take stats with her if you can!
My dream professor! Couldn't ask for more. She ultimately rocks my stat world.
Prof. Adhikari is a great educator. She makes the not so easy subject accessible to almost everyone and she even triggered in me the desire to study further the topic.
I love everything about Prof. Ani - she's wonderful teatcher. I love her sense of humor and great voice - pleasant to listen to!
despite the difficulty of the course, she delivered the lessons with clarity combined with wit and humor! keep up the good work, prof. a!
In my top 2 of the best teachers ever!
excellent experience
This was a trio of introductory online courses on statistics, and she was able to explain the subject in a very accessible and simplified way. She uses her voice wonderfully: has a clear pronunciation, stresses the important points, has calmness and humour, and great clarity.
lucky to get her
Took Stats 20 with Adhikari Fall '13. If you have the option to take a class with her, I would 100% recommend it. The way she presented the material was so clear that I was learning without even knowing that I was. She never put up notes from lecture, but attendance, attention, and good notes will take you far with her class. Lucky to have her!
Very knowledgeable and is an amazing lecturer. She explains everything very clearly, and provides insight that is not found in the book. Grading was fairly distributed, mostly A's and B's. Definitely take a class with her if you can.
She gives excellent and very clear lectures that made stats accessible even to my very non-mathematical brain.
One of the best professors at Berkeley. Highly knowledgable, delivers crystal clear lectures, really helpful in OHS and much more. Really loved the class.
Ani is not a Distinguished Teaching Award recipient for no reason. I took Stat 134 with her in Spring 2016, and her lectures were crystal clear. 134 is conceptually difficult but she and the GSI team were pretty amazing. If you have a chance, take any class taught by her!
Everyone knows she's great. I'm taking her again next semester. She's brilliant and dry, witty and to the point. Calculated, caring, charismatic, and in her words, "not a softy". She struggled with data8 a little because it's not stats, which she mains. But she is a great teacher and mind. Honestly, the course was easy to bite into and an easy A.
the best professor I've ever had at Berkeley
The best professor I've had at Berkeley so far. Never before have I had a professor that was SO clear in her lectures and where I didn't have to learn from the textbook at all. She's brilliant and I'm so in awe of her.
Both she and DeNero did a fantastic job creating a course that would be accessible for everyone. There were some issues with the course logistics, but many of these stem merely from the sheer size of the class (several hundred students). I would highly recommend this course to other students who would like a good introduction to statistics and CS.
There are not enough good things to say about Prof. Adhikari. She's hilarious, knowledgeable, and engaging. Although 134 was an extremely difficult course, Adhikari likes to focus on the overall intuition behind things by providing clear and consistent examples in class to support the logic. She invites questions and encourages participation.
Best professor at Berkeley. Stat 140 was a difficult class but her lectures were very clear. Going to Office hours helps a lot as well. highly recommend taking a class with her; she's brilliant
I've had her for Data 8 and Prob 140. She is amazing. Very clear lectures, really help you understand the material. She has inspired a love for statistics within me
OMG I would definitely recommend her if you are about to take stat 134. Her lectures are clear and fun. She's pretty friendly too
One of the better professors that Ive had at Cal so far. Great lectures in that she explains things very clearly and is very fair when it comes to assignments and tests. Would definitely recommend taking her for Data 8.
She is an expert in the subject and she has the ability to convey it in a clear and focused manner. She is a genius and her lectures reveal her sincerity and diligence towards her profession.
Love her! She is tough and she will get answers to her questions (you must participate). Her classes are no joke. She knows what she is talking about and she will do everything she can to teach you. She is clear, driven, and focused. She asks tough questions and will make every side of the room participate. Definitely take her class!
Already well established in data science, Prof. Adhikari commands respect. Her lectures are clearly logical, and she can handle any kind of bizarre questions students might have. Workload is high not because of homework but because you have to do a lot of self-studying (pre-read text, exercises) all on your own, or you'll be VERY lost in lectures.
Data 8 is severely overhyped but she was a solid professor
Amazing professor. Great lecturer who is very clear and communicates material in an understandable and charismatic way. Also, she is very inspiring in terms of the data science field and encourages students to challenge themselves and try new things outside of their comfort zone. Would definitely take again.
I love the lectures that Professor Adhikari delivers, and last but not least, she makes the content really engaging and lively. Having taken Stats 2 beforehand, I didn't feel bored. I felt like I was refreshing and refining knowledge. I definitely recommend this class as an alternate to Stats 2.
Ani is amazing not only is she a funny professor but her lectures are worth listening to. Data 8 is very structured and easy to understand and pass if you put the work in. I also went to her for office hours many times and she was great!
Data 8 was such a great class! Work definitely needs to be put in, but it will pay off. Adhikari is an amazing and entertaining lecturer. Highly recommend.
Great lecturer. Best professor Ive had at Berkeley. She can be tough on you some times but she really loves her students and pushes to get the best out of you. Go to lecture, she gives so much insight on material that you cant get from just reading the textbook. Homework was challenging but satisfying when you finally figured it out.
One of the hardest but best courses I've taken at Berkeley (this is for Stat140). Insane course load, but I learned so much out of this class. Grading was also incredibly hard but that doesn't make it any less of a great class. Prof Adhikari's lectures were amazing and that made an extremely conceptual class a lot easier.
I thought I hated the field of statistics, and then, Professor Adhikari happened. She not only inspires you to work hard, but more importantly, she enables you to develop intuition towards problem solving in a pretty hard class, and helps you see the beauty in what you're learning. The best professor I've had at Berkeley.
Every single lecture of hers is a gem. She has a very coherent way of presenting concepts that will make you understand them very intuitively. She also drops jokes occasionally and keeps the class engaged. She is a Berkeley legend and for good reason.
I think she's quite overrated as a professor. She definitely has a talent for clarity, but she is also intimidating, and often doesn't take well to questions.
Adhikari has a talent for making difficult material digestible, and on top of that she is so organized which makes this class one of the more reasonable ones in my opinion. She's sassy (which I love) and for good reason, and her lectures always capture my attention.
She's literally one of the best lecturers I've had, so good at explaining concepts and so knowledgeable in her field. She's also hilarious and gives great lectures. Made me want to minor is DS. Wish she would teach a full class though instead of having another professor teaching alongside.
In the most simplest terms I took this class and then declared the minor immediately after. She doesn't really teach this class anymore but she's an absolutely amazing lecturer. because of her I got into data science and have a job and a minor. Words cannot describe her.
Data 8 is one of those classes that's spouted as a great class for non-STEM students. What they don't tell you is that most people in it are CS/DS people looking for a GPA boost. So if you're truly a curious non-STEM, it is REALLY HARD. I had 0 coding experience and felt so lost, as much as I tried and went to OH every single week. Just beware...
Prob 140 with Professor Adhikari was a life changing class. I learned so much, and she lectures so clearly and so well. Material is quite difficult, but if you work hard you will learn lots and be prepared for any machine learning class you might want to take as a followup. Highly recommend this class. Also go to her office hours! Very nice class.
Difficult class, great professor.
She is an amazing professor. As an introductory class for statistics and Python, DATA c8 is not a hard class. However, two professors make it a relaxing and useful course. Much appreciated. Definitely recommend this class to every student who is interested in exploring data science.
Data8 is easily with prior coding experience and quite tough without. Office hours and textbooks are AMAZING resources. Adhikari herself is a great, laidback lecturers who is great at relaying concepts. There's a reason Data8 is one of people's favorite classes at Berkeley
Professor Adhikari is a great lecturer who explains new concepts clearly and makes them easy to understand. There are many resources available for students in Data 8 to succeed, and I found it to be very manageable even without extensive prior coding experience.
Prof. Adhikari is patient and knowledgeable. However, this course is tough for students with no prior coding or stats experience. If you have some experience in both you will do well! If not, expect to attend lots of office hours and labs. Also be prepared to feel super lost and spend hours on homework. Good luck!
The professor's knowledge of the course is evident in the lectures. Labs, homeworks, and projects aren't too difficult. Having at least a basic knowledge of Python would help, but you don't need any prior knowledge to do well in this course.
For a course about randomness, Professor A. is extremely fair. The lectures genuinely teach, the homework labs can be long, but the work can be done if you read the amazing textbook and go to class. Data140 is a hard class, but genuinely worth taking. I'm below average and I haven't finished the course, but I stand by this.
She ignites my interest in math and the importance of math and statistics in data science. Before taking this course, I'm not a big fan of math courses, but this class has been truly transformative for me for my future pursuits. Prof. A has been very fair on HW, and exams and very caring her students.
she's a very organized instructor that sets clear guidelines, but the material was extremely difficult with a very high workload; and she was intimidating and didn't seem to take well to questions
Extremely engaging lecturer and always ready to help students, the textbook that she wrote is really clear too (and even has videos of her explaining concepts). Overall, really great class and gave me a good foundation for future classes
absolutely an amazing lecturer and professor. Her lectures are always so illuminating and enlightening. Even if the concepts take a long time to digest, she was able to explain things in the clearest form. hands down one of the best professors I have ever had.
she is amazing. best class ever
Genuinely one of the best professors that I've ever had, she's also written a really good textbook for the course. Overall, would highly recommend this class even though it's a lot of work.
By far one of the most inspirational and best classes you will take at Berkeley. Make sure to keep up or it will be near impossible to catch up. Just do what she says word for word and you'll be fine.
Good class, prepare to think
one of the best classes at Cal. amazing prof, fair tests, but very challenging homework. expect a large time commitment. it will pay off
Once during a lecture, Adhikari said she thought her students were crazy for telling their friends, "140 is a disaster - please take it!" We all laughed because it's true. Adhikari will be teaching 140 for the last time in Fall '24. If you can, take this class with her. Just do exactly as she says and you'll be fine. She's the actual GOAT.
Adhikari is an amazing professor - her lectures are super engaging and her textbook is super helpful. The class is challenging but doable with unstuck study and consistent effort. Definitely take this if you can!
Lectures are extremely fast-paced, made it hard for my adhd brain to keep up. The textbook is written by Adhikari and is fantastic, homework are really tough. My gsi didn't really seem like they wanted to be there. Adhikari is an absolute master of the topic, and doesn't mess around. Pay attention and turn in your work and you will be good.
Adhikari is a great lecturer and very engaging. The course content is on the harder side, but she explains it clearly.
Very inspirational. You will learn a lot from this class if you attend lecture and read the textbook. Two thumbs up!
Probably one of my favorite professors in berkeley. She is super knowledgable and a GREAT teacher. Any concept you have questions with she can explain it in a way you can comprehend. GREAT CLASS!!
Adhikari has pedagogical mind that is so brilliant you only come across it once in a lifetime. Her ability to speak about probability in such an intuitive way is unparalleled by any other professor. She doesn't just teach you probability - she opens your mind and teaches you how to think differently. Pure genius, and a gold standard for professors.
I took Data 8 over the summer, but only watched Professor Adhikari's lectures from Fall 2021 because of how brilliant she is. Not only is she an amazing intellect in Math, Data Science, and Physics, but her control over language is so masterful that she can explain anything in the most intuitive, elegant way. UC Berkeley is so lucky to have her.
