He is a very good teacher and you'll learn a lot but he is not easy.
funny guy, no assignments just 3 tests
cool teacher, an expert in his field, just study what he tells you
No Comments
very helpful, but you need to take good notes
Must take good notes! Book sucks...but you still need to read for exam. Great guy, very knowlegeable. Explains concepts from book very well.
Cares about students; brilliant/successful as a portfolio manager and offers practical information/tips; text is great; 2 exams and a portfolio project; expect financial/statistical concepts i.e. TVM, CAPM, Correlation, Covariance, Standard Deviation, etc

Funny guy, just study what he tells u. Be careful, he might pick on u for the answer in class! Overall, it's a little tough..but if you study you'll do fine

He sat at the front of the class and read out of the text. This is not teaching it's babysitting.
Mr.Pawar is not a teacher, and this is what is good!He introduces you to the most important concepts, and he is very knowledgeable. The tests are OK, just study hard what he told you to. He is a very nice man, always here to help you if any ?or difficul
Alert...THE FINAL EXAM IS MUCH HARDER THAN THE MIDTERM and more comprehensive than expected. Dr. Pawar is a fantastic teacher, and you should take this class for your own 'financial' good. However, at the end of the semester, rememember what I said above!
He is very clear and he tells you what questions are going to be on his tests. Go to class and you will do well and learn a lot from him. He's a very smart guy.
Pawar is very FAIR in regards to his 1st & 2nd test. His final exam (50%) was HARD, that's why you need to do EXTREMELY well on his first 2 test (25% each).
Fin 323 is a hard class but take him.Excellent at teaching and makes material easier to comprehend. Funny and nice guy. Do your best in Midterms cuz final is hard.Need to go to all class and take good notes.MC exams will tell you what to study for on exam
Test are easy if you study what he tells you. He goes straight from the book, so make sure you remember formulas and concepts. Very little homework.
His class is fun, and if you focus on what he tells you, you will do great.
If you come to class, you are going to do fine. He tells you what to focus on, and sometimes he gives some questions that are going to be on the exam, so pay attention :). He is fun and very helpful. The most interesting class I've ever taken at SDSU.
He is a very fair teacher and if you go to class, take good notes and study exactly what he tells you for the test...you will get at least a B. The class is hard but he makes it fun and is truly a great teacher. i hate finance but enjoyed his class!
He is a great teacher. You will learn a lot from him. Lectures are also fun, and he tells you what to focus on for the exams. If you take good notes, you'll do great.
ABSOLUTELY GREAT-COMPLETELY PREPARES YOU FOR EXAMS AND OFFERS ANY ASSISSTANCE OUTSIDE OF CLASS, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK! I'VE HAD HUNTER, ZAKI-AND ALL THE AWFUL ONES-THIS GUY ROCKS! CRAZY NOT TO TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!
Go to class and take good notes! It will save your butt! Grade is based on 2 exams (25% each) and 1 final (50%), which is riduculous. Overall, not a bad teacher with a great personality. TAKE NOTES!!!!
Probably one of the best finance teachers at SDSU. Midterms are fair, Final is HARD. Must take GOOD notes and READ what he tells you to read. He does expect more from his students. He takes a vacation each semester so expect a substitute.
That final was a real bear! Be sure to do well on the midterms tho, and know concepts as well as how to do the calculations. Definitely take him if you can get into his class. Expect a substitute for part of the class.
first test i got 83%, second test i got 68% and final i cheated like crazy and ended up with a C+ at the end. so the point is if you want a good grade sit next to someone who is really smart and copy off from them like crazy.
Take good notes in class. Practice what he tells you will prepare you for the exams. But keep in mind that the final is as 5 times harder than the 2 mid-terms. Overall, take him if you can.
LISTEN CAREFULLY FOR HIS REVIEW BEFORE THE TEST DATE...YOU'LL BE EXTREMELY GLAD..HE'S A PERFECT INSTRUCTOR
This guys comes to teach. But, you have to study. Hard tests, but his reviews help. Use the CD for practice on solving problems before tests. His classes are fun and interesting. Just wish the tests weren't so damn hard. You have to practice.
Great teacher, clear lecture, entertaining, says "ok gang" a lot (hilarious). Tests are extremely hard and tricky. Didn't expect as poor of a grade as i got. Straight forward.
Good Professor. Whatever?!!! He is like the rest of the Professors hard and confusing.
A little tough to understand what he wants sometimes. Tests are hard. If he writes down a formula then tells you that you won't need it for the test...YOU WILL!!! He did this at least once on every test. Still best finance teacher on campus though
Very hard professor. I don't care what others say. He gives examples in class that are so easy then you get the test and it is nothing like what he went over in class. Nice guy and knows a lot, but if you are looking for an A, LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!
Very impossible final teaches in a scattered manner. It doesn't help going to class. I have ADD hard to concentrate if you are not getting the material.
Dyes his hair (way too vain about his looks and his Ph.D.), he can't pronounce "inventory", he can't remember anything he promises the class, he makes the tests hardier than what he reviews for, he promised a curve a few minutes before student e
Crappy teacher like the rest of the Finance teachers. Hard final explains what is going to be on the test but when comes to the test it is something totally opposite.
I took his course because he got very good reviews on this website. I was disappointed, and as of May 24 he still hasn't posted our grades. If you're good at memorizing formulas or have taken IDS 301 Stats you may do ok.
Unorganized teaching style as well as hard tests. Plus didn't post grades up as of May 24th the day first summer session began. I am screwed for signing up in a class not even knowing if I am wasting my time or not in that class.

kinda hard to understand b/c of his accent. he goes over his lectures very quick so be ready to take notes! tests were okay, study notes & read the book to do good in class.
Get on his good side. Be assertive, ask smart questions, and pay attention to detailed note taking, and you might get a B. It's a lotta material that cannot be crammed, you will get the grade that you deserve.
can somebody tell me is this prof. makes you do presentations?
Hard course in general. Take good notes and go to every class. Heard he was the best to take but not too sure. Hard final so be sure and study for it.
Best teacher in SDSU for finance. Read many comments by oter students which are so negative because these students probably did poorly in the class and exams. due to their own fault (lack of studying). Teaches good and does not mind repeating if students
Tests are hard but straightforward, but his #@$!% pompous condescending attitude can make the class irritating! Always touting that everything's "so easy." Bull!
This class was interesting, one project, two exams. Not bad if you read and study the notes from class. The project is kind of a pain...
As he's lecturing, he tells you, this will be an exam question. He's very straighforward, if you read the book, go to every class and take notes, you shouldn't have a problem. Also, make flash cards and start learning the formulas way before the exams.
Very bright man, very interesting class, professor very helpful. Class is kind of hard, he tells you what will be on tests, but won't let you use ANY notes or formulas, need to memorize EVERYTHING!! No extra credits, final is worth 50% of final grade. Take very good notes, test will come from notes.
This guy is a cocky ****, but it's ok cuz he knows EVERYTHING about finance. If you go to every class are not afraid to ask questions then you will be fine. His tests are pretty straight-forward, but you'll have to study hard or cheat and put all of the formulas on your calulator.
3 tests, theory questions from book, calc questions fron notes
This was actually one of the finance classes that I actually learned something in. He is pretty fair with the exams, but the final is really hard. Study the FORMULAS!!!!!!!! You will need to know like 3 different formulas to get the answer your looking for.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. This class was so hard. You have to remember all the formulas and the tests are just ridiculous. Also, he is condescending towards students - I say avoid this teacher!!
REALLY HARD CLASS, but Pawar is a good teacher, he's way nicer to chics though. He's very straight forward, lets you know what the questions will be for the test, but the final is 50% of your grade. It helps if you get the good finance calc and put the formulas in for the test.
This guy is a stud. His lectures are somewhat boring, but if you can pay attention, you'll do really well on the midterms. Tends to condescend to students, but knows his material. I would take this class! easy A or B
A good grade is possible...just plan on a lot of studying. He expects you to have everything memorized...no exceptions. 2 midterms worth 25% each and a final worth 50%. Go to class everyday. A+ review can help a little.
what the hell? these people are crazy..the guy is a jerk! his tests are hard but i will give it to him for giving good but borning lectures, when he shows up on time! he made me hate finance!!...avoid him if possible!!

This class was rediculous. Pawar is hilarious - dry as a bone, but this class is soooo hard, and he is not perfectly clear about what is on the tests. He pretends to be. He tells you what's on the test, but it's not completely accurate by any means. He's basically a pompous ass, but brilliant.
The final is crazy sooo hard! and it's worth 50% the two midterms are okay he says he is telling you whats on the test but he's really not the questions on the test are way more complicated. you have to memorize all formulas there are like 50 or so of them
No Comments
I'm not sure how that guy intends to pass college since he can't write coherent sentences. This class sucked hard, but you have to take it.
beware of the final, super hard, i got a A on both midterms but fail the final b/c didnt have time to study fot a D in the class, if you study you will do alright, not a bad guy
Avoid at all costs!
This guys class sucked. I am retaking the class with another Professor, and the new professor actually lets you use a notecard so you dont have to memorize all those BS formulas. I would avoid Pawar unless your looking for a D.

It's tough because Professor Pawar makes you MEMORIZE numerous ratios and formulaa; he is a good teacher though.
Pawar is a great professor! His lectures are very easy to follow. You learn a lot in his class. However, his exams are pretty challenging. You have to know everything in order to do well on the exams, but he says he curves at the end, so we will see. He's probably the best choice for 323.
Prof does not curve, teaches from memory, tests cumm. What he does in class changes by exam date. memorization of about 100 formulas. class avg is about 55%. I get A's in all my other classes, and spent soo much time on this class for a C+. I'm going to his Boss when i'm done typing this. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!
This class was easy, and he curves at the end. Nice guy, exam problems look like those appearing during the lecture, just with different numbers.
Tests are NOTHING like the lectures. In class examples are easy, test probs are hard (he probably uses the book's pre-made test).Lectures will prepare you only for 30% of the test.VERY HARD final. ONLY 3 tests make up your grade! beware....
He is tough teacher, u earn what u get. If u really want to learn something, take him. He explains everything very clearly, if u go to class, read the book and study all the notes before the tests, u will do fine in this class.
This guy knows whats going on. His tests are not easy, but if you can pull off a decent grade, his lectures are full of insights that you cant get with any other teacher.
a joke of a class. his test questions are way harder than class examples. the final is 50% of your grade, and there are only 2 midterms, making that only 3 items that make up your entire grade. avoid this professor. It will screw up your gpa
I managed to pull off an A. He teaches you all you need to know in class. Just go to every class and take good notes... and then for the tests just re-read ALL of your notes (he may tell you what's on the test but he often will not tell you the theoretical stuff that you need to know). Overall, very enjoyable class.
Prof. knows his stuff and deserves respect. One could learn a lot from this guy..a lot! But the 1st question on the final was "What grade do you think you receive from this class?" - a grueling final follows, then - "What do you think you'll make now?" as the last question. It was a joke, but it seemed a little cruel and unnecessarily hardhearted.
OK, I do think its pretty crazy that his final is worth 50% of your final grade & the other 2 exams worth 25% a piece. However the class isn’t as hard as most students see it, I mean you only have to prepare for those three exams, there are no Quizes&Hwks to worry about. Heck, just go to A+ (study the material), never go to class and its an easy C.
Great professor! He teaches the material very clearly and is very interesting. He wants his students to really learn and uses good examples to present the material. However, the class is still tough and you really need to study to do well in this class because it's no joke. If you really want to learn take Pawar!

This professor is the worst in history of professors. I took another class and got a B with Professor Kim. Pawar do not know how to teach. He is confusing and not very helpful. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Great professor. This is definitely college-level material and the workload and difficulty of the coarse reflects this, but this not a difficult class at all. He gives students every opportunity to get an A. I only studied 2 days before each exam and got an A.
Do not take his class if you can avoid it. It's the most unbelievable torture in the world. Bc of it I changed my major.
Smart guy, he makes boring material easy to understand and shows how to apply theory to problems. Exams straight from lecture. Pay close attention in class and take good notes. Every thing was easy except for the final cause no cheatsheet allowed. But if you understand the material, you will know the functions naturally without try hard memorize.
Keeps deleting my feedback. I made two appts. with him via email he never showed up or said anything. Tests are focused on very random details that he doesn't teach - one must read between the lines. Smart but doesn't teach the material very well.
Great teacher, he knows what he is talking about. The class is not easy but very intersting. Do not take it before FIN 327 and FIN 325. Tests are hard, and the project takes a lot of your time (good excell skills). Take him if you have the chance, you will learn a lot. One of the best finance teacher at SDSU
his class is hard but you learn so much stuff in this class. he gives you every interesting examples and those examples are on the test but with different format and number. he curves but not that low. if you want to learn, take him or else take some else.
Very good professor! You have to study a lot for the exams but you'll learn a lot! TAKE THIS CLASS! If you are not stupid or lazy, you'll get an A or B.
Knows his stuff but not enough time to take his tests, kinda hard.
He is condescending and very unhelpful. One of the worst teachers I have ever taken. I don't understand why he teaches because he clearly does not care about student success. Unfortunately there aren't any other good professors for this class.
do not take him!
It is true that Pawar has a condesending nature at times, but I think it is because he knows so much about the subject. If you can get past that and not get your feelings hurt and show up for class he can provide a great source of info and teach you a lot about finance.
hard class but he does give good examples of the test questions. two midterms worth 25% and final worth 50%. You must come to this class. he is somewhat unorginized and comes to class late all the time. however he does know about everything there is about finance
No Comments
comes to clas late. office hours are a joke, he makes you feel stupid. 3 exams, final worth 50%, extremly difficult..no cheatsheat. remembering 30 formulas per test is insane, treats everyone like they are finance majors. good teacher, just demanding.
He is a wonderful teacher. If you go to class, listen to his lectures (which are very clear and well done), and review your thorough notes afterwards before the test, you should do well. He is a very personable guy, too. Test questions are both quantitative and qualitative.
Pawar is a great prof. He really does want us to understand the material and succeed. Hence, no powerpoint slides and quanitative questions on the test are straight from lecture notes. He is always available during office hours to help you. If you want to learn and work for your grade take his class...if your lazy and stupid look else where.
Wow am i glad this class is over. Pawar will kick your butt in this class but you will come out knowing the material. Their is no cheat sheet but if you study your butt off and do the HW problems in the book, and study your butt off somemore and read over your notes, and study even more you can pull an A in the class. He does push you to do well
No Comments
If you can memorize countless formulas you're ok. If not, you will have trouble.
classes make sense, but tests are another story. tries to make them different from class material, but then whats the point?
Probably the best class yet! Knows what he is talking about, makes you learn it, good advice for the real world! Very hard, but take him if you want to learn some good stuff!
Pawar is a really good teacher. He teaches the material so that you will understand it. The problem that most students have in this class is that they don't finish the exams in time. Do keep the material fresh in the brain because he doesnt allow note cards. Practice the material and know how to do the calculations fast and you'll be fine!
He tests exactly on his class notes. The only problem is no cheat sheet, so you have to memorize a lot but everything is straight from lecture, no surprises. I recommend taking him for 323.
I think i'll get an A with a slight curve. Pawar is an interesting guy because he seems to want to come off as a tough guy, but i think he's a big softie. 3 tests 25 25 50. The final isn't hard, just freaking long. 1st test is mostly problems, 2nd test half-half concepts/problems. I definitely recommend this guy because kim is a LOSER.
the fact is that pawar is a really nice guy, finance in general is just HARD, so yes.. the tests are hard. going to class helps.. hes explains things well, study hard, take aplus review.. and you will come out fine. hes actually a really funny guy (although i dont think he thinks he is)
Smart guy, but terrible teacher. He's very unhelpful and intentionally tricky. He should focus on helping students actually learn (without memorizing pointless formulas) and get rid of the ego-inflating agenda. Peace.
Do yourself a favor. Please Do NOT take this class with him. He tries to make it sound easy but if you can't study by yourself, it will kill your grade, a big mistake. A big NO NO... Even though I love Finance.
Definitely not an easy class. He is very interesting. Be sure to go to all the classes. His tests though are very hard. Study early and often.
Finance is a tough subject but Pawar tests right off of his notes, you don't even need the book. He lets you know the points of emphasis on the tests and you just have to study that. Only 3 Tests, 2 worth 25% each and a final worth 50% of your grade. I recommend him if you can memorize formulas
Very intriguing class... I learned a lot and this class has really got me interested in finance. This professor is very helpful and basically his tests are right off the notes. STUDY your notes thoroughly and you should do fine. He might come off as an **** but he is actually a really funny guy.
Fin-323 & 421 strongly recommended. great teacher. explains very clearly and makes it easy to understand. tests are from class notes, but u do need practice. no HW. he likes to ask questions from students, some time u may feel he is picking on u. just ignore it. overall he is great. u will learn something from his class.
went to every class. understood everything in class. he says things like "its that simple" yet when it comes test time he throws curveballs, breaking balls, and mustard. Dont buy the book- you won't be able to read through it..The Gitman book is THE most boring book you could possibly purchase.
Notes are straight from book, test is straight from notes. Reading isn't necessary. He's a fun professor, and can be friendly, but it's not his disposition.
This guy is a joke..... You have been warned. He calls on people and expects them to know the answer before he teaches it, the WHOLE time standing there with a smurk thinking (haha you dont know).... got B's on first two midterms, a D on the last one and got a D in the class....
Very hard class. You might think that you know the material from the class notes that he tells you to study, but on the tests the questions are different from the notes. Read the book and thoroughly know the chapters or you will fail! Test are crazy, only have 2 minutes per question, and thats when he shows up on time, so its really like 1 min per
His teaching is easy to understand. He does not teach from the book and usually forgets what he taught the previous class. He is always late for the 2pm class. Exams are extremely hard and nothing of what he teaches in on the exam neither. The wording of problems on the test are extremely confusing Don't trust him he says he will help but he doesnt
The mjor thing to watch out for are his tests, its the only thing that counts twards your grade.also,he teachs u one way and uses easy vocab inclass, and completly throws you off on the exams asking yu questions very diffrntly than the way he taught in class.i have one word for you all: NEILANDER
Knew all the concepts but could not do the test. 3.7 GPA and failing his class. Couldn't finish the test in time and although he explains well the test is not a good example of what he says you need to know.
This is the perfect class for the summer; easiest business course I have ever taken. You are guaranteed a B (at minimum) for sure!
ok> IF HE'S A FINANCE TEACHER, WHY THE HELL IS HE TEACHING WHEN HE SHOULD BE PUTTING HIS SKILLS TO USE, AC****ULATING HIS INTERESTS AND INVESTMENTS TO BECOMING A MILLIONAIRE??? PLEASE PAWAR, SAVE US FROM YOUR SMART*** AND RETIRE. DO A REALITY TV SHOW, ANYTHING BUT TEACHING. I LIKE THE GUY AS A PERSON, NOT A TEACHER.
HARDEST PROFESSOR I HAVE KNOWN. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WONT DO GOOD OR UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. HIS LECTURES ARE GOOD, BUT TESTS ARE VERY HARD. NO HOMEWORK. INSIDE CLASS EXAMPLES ARE EASY, EXAM QUESTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND HARD. GOOD LUCK IF U TAKE HIM.
He is one of best teachers in SDSU, he teaches very well. Since he encourages students to get involved in class, we learned a lot. FIN 325 material helps you to do the project.
Dr. Pawar can be very condescending (calling him "Doctor" seems to soothe his rather enormous ego). The test questions were misleading because they didn't align with what he did in class. I was so upset that I intentionally loaded up on carne asada before each class so that I could fart like a machine during class.

DO NOT TAKE PAWAR. He lies all semester and tries to get students to believe his tests are passable. ~73% of his students are failing. Material on test is nothing like what he covers in class.
Tolerable. Lectures are ok, but boring. Tests are really hard, don't study concepts study how to do in class problems. Makes you memorize a ton of formulas and acronyms that don't make sense. He's ok if that's what fits your schedule, but if you can find someone better take the other.
Pawar's lectures and tests are purely on formulas. But he also expects you to know the concept behind the material, like it's just common sense. Tests are very difficult and often hard to finish in time. The final contains huge paragraph problems and you have to figure out which numbers to use. I think he enjoys failing more than half his class.
Pawar does a great job of simplifying the material. Everyone ****ing about how hard he is must have half a brain. I never even opened the book. Just take a look at his notes, and make sure to study a little extra before the first exam so it doesnt surprise you, he just mixes up his formulas... I got an A in the class.
TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK. What can u say about Pawar. He is extremely tough and makes students memorize all formulas (unlike the other FIN professors). Even though I would not recommend him, I actually might take him again. Sounds crazy huh?!?!
His tests are directly from his lectures. Go to class, pay attention, buy his lecture notes and you will do fine. The material is not that hard.
READ THIS FIRST! Honestly, a good teacher. But, you go over a lot, and its very hard to learn. If you want a good grade, study a lot before test. DON'T BUY BOOK (never used it), ONLY CAL COPY NOTES (and review it)! I did get an A, sure, but not easy to do. There are others teachers much easier. Good teacher, but hard. 2 midterm 25%, 1 final 50%.
Very difficult class. Tests are difficult. Most people fail the first test. Recom. tutoring or A+ review to pass. Test 1&2 worth 25% each. Final Comprehensive worth 50%. You do not need book. Buy reader instead. Take notes and practice a lot. Choose other teacher if you can. Pawar will make you doubt yourself A LOT!
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I studied like crazy for the final...I started like crazy for the midterm...I studid like crazy for the first test...and....I still didn't make the grade. Man is this guy hard. Well, Pawar is an awesome professor don't get me wrong. Tests are difficult though. Very difficult.
this was the hardest class i ever have taken in SDSU. i studied crazzzzy for the tests, especially the final, and i still didn't do well. so be prepare to study, study, study and study for this class. you never know what's going to be on the test! unless you are a finance genius, its impossible to get an A or even a B.
I did well in this class by seeing an excellent private tutor regularly (every week for the whole semester). This class is tough and the tests are hard! But if you work with**** consistently, you should be fine.
Very nice guy. Very BAD prof. Only hired because of his position as investment advisor. SDSU should NEVER have this guy teaching INSURANCE for financial planning. He is CLUELESS about insurance. (Not sure course number is correct, sorry)
Only two exams and a large project; if you blow one test, your class grade will suffer. Suggest you see A. Tutor to learn the material and do well. Summer class moves quickly.
Teaches very interesting stuff but in a very complicated way what might confuse a lot of students. Most things could be described much easier. Exams are OK, but time could be a problem if you do not immediately know how to solve the problems. Anyway, 100 % in the exams are definitely possible.
Dr.Pawar is not teaching insurance class for more than three year now. He is a CLU(Certified Life Underwriter)and not clueless. He is also a LUTCF(Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow). Furthermore, he is a member of million dollar round table(MDRT). This shows his industry experience and success.
My major is finance. I'm strong with numbers so that helps. He is honest about what is on test. Had extra class study sessions you could attend that had problems very similar to the exams. You are required to memorize ratios and tax rates, but if you do that and understand basic algebra then you should be ok. Study the problems he
Tells you the class is hard and many people fail and he is right! Only 2 tests but NEED to go to lectures to understand everything (dont need BOOK but need READER!). Got a C but would take the class again because of Pawar's experience...MOST DIFFICULT AND MOST INTERESTING TEACHER I'VE HAD IN 4 YEARS AT STATE
Hard class. Pawar very good at explaining material and tells you specifically what will be on mid-terms and finals. Know how to do every problem he lectures on and memorize the formulas and you will do fine. Scary at first, but gets easier.
He was very tough in the beginning, timed homework and long midterms. The class and homework definitely got better. Relative to the subject matter, he's a good prof. You WILL have to read the book for homework, study the CLASS notes for tests, and be familiar with the financial calculator. I had 5 upper level major classes this semester and did ok!
Hardest teacher at state! The way he presents the material in class is extremely different than on the test! I went to A+ review and did fine, however if you just use your class notes then you will definitely fail. Do not listen to Pawar; he will tell you otherwise b/c hes a compulsive liar. Without outside help getting a good grade is impossible!
he is a great and knowlogible teacher. He is just on of those teachers that expectes the student to read their mind. His class is interesting but when it comes to the test, it is the same materials that he toght us but gives it in a totally different way. which confuses a lot people.
Pawar is a genius in finance, but he seemed to want his students to share this same knowledge. His class was not easy, but it wasn't hell either. I went to A plus for all three exams and only did not do much better than the class average. I would recommend Pawar, but don't expect it to be easy.
This is definitely a challenging class. 2 midterms, final, and weekly online timed homework assignments. I got an A, so its not impossible. Pawar does seem to be full of himself and will call on kids during class to answer questions. There is also a slight curve at the end of the semester (5-10% added to your total points). I would take him again.
completely useless. I went to his office hours frequently because he promised me a grade boost since i was struggling and he still gave me an F. I hav enever had an F before. Do not take him.
I have never had such an unreasonable teacher in my entire college experience. This is supposed to be an introduction to finance class, and he makes it harder that 325 or 329, as older students have said. DO NOT TAKE PAWAR AT ALL COSTS.
He is a great teacher. He made the class very interesting and does a good job to explain things, once he understands your question. Make sure you ask the question until he answers what you want. His test can be hard but you just have to know all the formulas, so take notes and go to every class.
Amazing professor. First in a while that actually cared about t-e-a-c-h-i-n-g. Its not an easy grade (or pass for that matter) but believe me... its one of the only times you will realize why we PAY for school.
Pawar is interesting..and hard. He knows everything about FIN, though. Tests are very hard & require memorizing 20+ formulas. He does not use BB & writes everything on the board, so you should def go to class. Weekly online hmwk helps fluff your grade. He's pretty funny too. If you are a FIN major, you should take him. If not, find someone else.
Pawar is a smart guy but he has no teaching skills at all!! The Tests are very unfair and the HW is ridiculously hard!
This class is HARD. I would recommend this class to finance majors only otherwise another professor would be best. Pawar's test are extremely difficult ESPECIALLY the first one (class average was 60%). I did learn a lot but it was very very stressful!
At first very stressful, but you just have to suck it up. Weekly online assignment, doesn't take a genius to figure out you can do it with people from class. Tests are hard, especially first one, you won't finish it, but they get better. Also make sure he knows who you are before the final, so go to his office the day before it, just don't be dumb.
this class was intimidating at first esp with first test but i just went to a plus and never read the book til the final. barely attended class. got an A because he curved at the atleast 8%.. go to a plus especially for the final.. 2 midterms and a final (not cumulative) and online hw thats timed and can be a lil difficult
Very hard tests, remember each question is worth same points so SKIP hard ones, guess if time runs out. seriously. get in groups for HW if using aplia still. difficulty arises because aplia/the book, and what he teaches in class is different! pissed me off, but keep that in mind. Time intensive, but possible. Got an A-
THE GOOD: The curve helps you and all test questions are worth the same; skip the hard ones. APLIA Homework, Two test and final. THE BAD: Not well organized, and three sources of info the book, APLIA and Dr.Pawar. BOTTOM LINE: Don't get too confi, and read the book for APLIA HM. Get a tutor if you can and do group study
His test are difficult to say the least. You should practice doing hw problems under extreme pressure bc its frantic trying to finish during the exam. I want to punch him every time i leave one of his exams
DO NOT TAKE! I actually understood the lectures, went to all classes, got A's on all the HW. BUT TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE! He expects you to memorize every single formula. NO CHEAT SHEETS, only FIN teacher at state to pull that kind of crap. I got a D in his class, even though I studied my ass off and went to A+. I think he was deprived as child. FU!!!
This class was impossible. I failed and its my first time ever failing a class. I did everything even went to A+ and I still only got 50% on the tests. Sheesh! Too Hard!
If you take Pawar, be prepared to be shocked on the first exam: the class average is 35%. Every formula has to be memorized and interchangeable terms are used to trick you. Pawar has no mercy and will make your semester extremely stressful.
This class was somewhat challenging but you actually Learn something. The curve is around 10% and the homework is an easy 30% of your grade. I failed the first exam and the final and came out with a C. Don's slack too hard and you'll get an A.
Studied harder than for any other course, scammed out of 30 bucks each exam for his review booklet, also went to A+ for the last 2 exams, still only managed a low C, you learn a lot but this class will destroy your GPA and is hard as hell, so consider that before taking him.
Finance is what makes business majors bachelor of science. Everyone complaining here is likely in marketing or management where you just memorize vocab and drink 7 days a week. This class isn't amateur hour but you get an opportunity to use analytical skills and get a small dose of what finance is about.
I am a Finance Major and the only thing Pawar has done for me is make me seriously reconsider this. I am a smart person. I studied like crazy for all of Pawars tests and attended every class. In this class, it doesnt matter if you know the materials INSIDE AND OUT. His tests are ALL TRICKS and completely diff. from what is taught. Kill yourself now
2 midterms, each 20%. 10 Homework 30%. Final 30% (not cummulative but will still kick your butt) Very unforgiving grading structure. No notecards even tho there are over 30 formulas required for each exam. 1 chance at HW and its timed, they're like chapter tests. Take another professor for the same knowledge but less stress!!!
Difficult class. High Stress. Tests include the same questions that come from class sessions and the class reader, although he often adds a slight twist to them which completely changes the solution. Must be very analytical and know the process in and out. Secret: learn a tutorial on taking "screen shots" for the homework, it'll give you an edge.
He knows his stuff but he sucks at teaching it. His READER is a must. I taught myself and barely went to his classes since all he did was give students a hard time by asking them questions they don't know the answer to yet. I ended up with a B+ but I am a FIN major and I can memorize/apply equations quickly. YOU MUST KNOW YOUR FORMULAS INSIDE OUT!
I'm a finacial services major and he made me hate finance i'm seriously reconsidering changing my major because of him. he is the wrost ever and i went to every class and A+ and still was only able to get a d+. do not take
Not impossible. I got an A- (no A+). Before attempting hw, do all the practice problems and either write them down, or take screen shots of solutions for later ref. Know reader and formulas inside and out. I went to every class, it kinda helps and gives u more of an idea what to expect on tests. Tedious work, not difficult. Dont get discouraged!
I scored 60% on both midterms and studied my ass off for the final. Managed a B-. If you do not know the material inside and out, you will not finish the exams, and this is discouraging. Don't bother buying the text. Go to every class, but don't expect to learn anything without understanding the material before the lecture.
No cheat sheet, must buy new fin calc.. impossible to do the 20 step problems without knowing the formulas, unless you have a photographic memory. LET'S FACE IT PAWAR, IN THE REAL WORLD, WE'RE NOT GOING TO NEED TO MEMORIZE THOSE FORMULAS! However, I did enjoy his lectures and learned a lot from the class, but the tests sucked. Ended up with a D.
Okay, I know everyone says Pawar is crazy hard....well he is, BUT he curves and if you go to office hours and get to know him he will be even more lenient. DO NOT BUY THE TEXT!!!! It is a waste of $100 bucks. BUY the reader and access code only! AS FOR A+, its not a for sure thing . The test preps were about 60% accurate. TOUGH CLASS but passable
Go to class everyday, use the reader. Never opened the book and got an A. Hi examples are very similar to questions on the test and the reader provides a lot of examples for studying
You don't necessarily have to be "smart" to do well in this class. Yes, his tests are very difficult, but there aren't any tricks, like some on here have said. It's simple: only buy the Reader, practice the HW and Reader problems as much as you can, and do the harder/longer problems on the exam first. A lot of the material is just common sense.
Buy the reader. The first exam I failed BIG TIME(25%) because I only studied my notes. The second midterm I studied straight from the reader and got 95% on it. Did the same for the final(grades weren't posted, though). With the curve, came out with a B-. Not bad especially since I thought I was going to fail the class after the first midterm.
Buy the reader if taking FIN323 like everyone else says. You don't even need to go to class, just study the reader thoroughly and understand each problem and you should have no problem on any exam. Check if homework is due OFTEN and do them all on time. He might cut you a break if you demonstrate you stayed on top of hw and bump your grade up.
This professor knows how to teach. My only complaint is that practice problems previous to the first test did not set the right expectation for difficulty. The first exam was definitely a blindsiding. To those who say you don't need to memorize in the real world? Try doing a CFA exam. A class like this is excellent preparation.
This was the hardest class i ever had. I am an A/B student and i never struggled so much. Do the HOMEWORK online it is worth 30% and you are gonna need it. The tests are soooo hard and he puts a lot of concept in one question. I heard other teachers let you have a cheat sheet for the test. pawar expects you to memorize evrything!!!
If you think this class is tough, then you don't belong at SDSU and better off working at McDonald's. Sure the class isn't as easy as Blum's but what do you learn with Blum? Cash is King? haha. The truth is if you put in some time you'll easily pass this class and most of what he teaches is common sense.
Even though attendance is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. The class is not that easy, but he tries his best to explain the material. Homework assignments are almost every week and have a dead line. They account for 30% of the grade and are pretty easy. You don't want to lose those points, because the exams are pretty hard.
Dr. Pawar is no walk in the park. Prepare to work hard. He makes sure you know the material. The problems on the test are tricky. The problems are similar to examples in class but have many variations. He has two Mid-terms 50% and a Final 30% and homework is 20% of your grade. He is a great teacher.
You have no idea what's coming. Each exam is an evil maze, and it's easy to go down the wrong path. If you manage to get an A in Pawar's class, don't hesitate to push your luck in Vegas. You'll be rich within hours.
He is one of the best professors in SDSU, if you want to learn finance.
If you can , do NOT take him, His test are clear based on his lectures, but somehow harder, because you have to remember all the formulas, and there is not enough time to finish the test. He might says he curves, but he doesn't. 2 mid-terms and 1 Noncumulitive final, total of 70%, and On-line HWs 30%. Again try to take somebody else not Pawar.
Pawar isn't that bad, but he doesn't teach you everything in a simple way. Go to A plus review and it will really help. Also, do all the HW assignments because its 30%. 2nd test is the hardest. Just study your notes, go to a plus, and do well on the hw- you'll at least get a B. He didn't curve my class, so be careful.
If you want to learn Finance, take Pawar; He is extremely clear on what he expects from you in the class, lectures and examples in the class are super clear and helpful for the exams. He does not assign a text book ,but you should buy his lecture notes which again is so vital to read for the tests. His curves are pretty big. He is awesom.
i'm a marketing major and got stuck with pawar. class examples are pretty easy, the test problems are a whole different story. not only are they really hard, you don't even have enough time to finish them. do really good on the HW. i got a 95% on hw and bombed every test and ended up with my first D+. killed my GPA, but i just needed to pass.
Pawar is a terrible teacher. He believes that all students live and breath finance. He makes introduction to finance, a required course, ridiculously too difficult. His tests are nowhere along the lines of what the homework assignments are, and his homework assignments are not easy either. Which account for 30% of your overall grade.
He's a really good teacher. His examples are clear & really easy to understand cuz he breaks it down.If you memorize all the formulas & know all the various names for the same word, then you'll do fine.Alot of people complain but they probably just dont study. If you don't study he's hard, but so far I've gotten a 100% on both his tests, learned alot!
Pawar requires you to memorize dozens of formulas backwards and forwards. No notes allowed on tests, all scantron. Exam questions are typically complex word problems that require multiple steps. Use of income statement and accounting formulas also required. Pawar's style is VERY numbers oriented. He usually teaches most FIN sections.
Pawar puts the fun in the fundementals of finance!
you have to memorize EVERYTHING! He also does not care about his students and if you are struggling he will not help! Makes you feel stupid when you ask questions in class.
Thought the class wasn't bad until the final. Everything that is on the tests is in the book so if you study whats in the book then you will be OK. However, the final was ridiculous, he put stuff on there that he never went over at all. Went to A-plus and studied for like 2 days and still failed it. Hard class, need to memorize a million formulas.
Dr. Pawar is a great teacher. he uses his own book and goes right out of it for tests. He gives pop quizzes so you have to be on top of things all the time. memorize the formulas in the book and you will do well. Downside is that there are very few problems on the tests so you have to get most of them right to do well.
This class requires ALOT of effort. It can be difficult but not impossible. Pop quizzes so you must study before every class. The quizzes and exams are very similar to the problems in the book. His tests requires you to memorize alot of formulas especially for the 1st test. I was worried about taking him but it ended up not being that bad.
Difficult class. I am normally a straight A student, and I only received a D. Yikes! Really nice guy, very smart, but this class takes a LOT of effort. No homework, everything is based on the book. A few pop quizzes and 3 exams including the final. He did not curve our class or drop any exam grades. Great guy, but really hard class!
If you're forced to take his class due to no other teacher being available shoot yourself It will be less painful. A million formulas to remember, can't use notes on the tests, 20 questions that are a paragraph long and only 75 minutes to do them, teaches expecting you already know the information and won't take the time to help when you ask. Avoid
AVOID. He is the ONLY teacher to not let you use a sheet for 100 formulas you need to know on the exams. His textbook is a joke. He expects you to already know finance. I cant believe my tuition pays for crappy teachers like this!
shows up 5-10 minutes late, and lets you out that late as well. Thinks students who do bad simply dont try...expects students to know finance well before the class...no cheat sheet anytime and there are tons of formulas. Class avg. for every test was an "F". Try your best to take another teacher for 323 this guy is a joke.
Avoid at all costs. This guy is a joke. He makes students use his own book that makes no sense and doesn't teach anything about finance. I was very excited for my first finance class, but left this class feeling taken advantage of. I didn't learn a thing. He comes off as really nice...dont't be fooled. Class avg on tests is 50%
The material seems to make sense in class and in the book(even tho it has a ton of mistakes),but then the tests will incorporate in other concepts that he doesnt show how to do together.First 2 tests almost straight from book, but still very hard. 3rd test & final were a complete joke, nothing like the examples. No cheat sheets.DO NOT TAKE HIM! Awful
Great teacher if he wasn't giving tests. He presents good information in class but his tests include stuff we don't even touch. You're expected to know the book inside and out. Application in class is needed more for best comprehension. Time is an issue for tests. 20 questions with several calculations each in 75 min is hard without a note sheet.
The professor is nice and the material seems straightforward, but there are lots of formulas to memorize and there are no cheat sheets that can be used and the tests are crazy hard. If I were you, I would look for a different professor.
Very smart person; horrible teacher! The exams are long and difficult; he assumes we know everything, expects us to memorize hundreds of formulas which make sense in class, but not on test. His quizzes are supposed to "help us" and have no calculations... that's a lie! Really look for another professor!
I thought Pawar was a great teacher with tough tests. Visit his office hours and he will help you one on one with what to expect/study for.
I recommend his class. Finance was my least favorite, but now it's one of my favorites. Go to every class and review after each class to keep up. You do need to study a lot, there is not question about it, but you really learn a lot from him. Loved it and got an A.
