Great professor, very nice and understanding with his students. You can learn a lot in his class. You can pass exams if you read and pay attention, but he does curve and/or lets the class take the exam over. Would take him for other classes as well.
Dr. Chaptin!!...He's cool, but the man deserves a raise so he can buy new clothes. :-)
He tells the students to buy the book, and then he tells them that we are not gonna be using it. His exams are really hard. You have to write every word he says. He doesn’t curve or give a make up.
Just take detailed notes and study them! I went the whole semester and did not need to buy the book. His tests come straight from the notes he presents. Good class for those who think economics is just common sense.
very clear. You do not have to buy a textbook. If you study his notes you will pass. Economics is a pretty hard subject but he makes it really easy. Take him you will not regret it
NICE TEACHER JUST WRITE EVERYTHING FROM HIS NOTES ANY U WILL BE JUST FINE, NO NEED FOR THE BOOK ALL IS BASED ON HIS LECTURE JUST TAKE REAL GOOD NOTES WRITE EVERYTHING.
Take detailed notes and don't worry about the book in his class. Very nice teacher, dosen't curve and will give some extra credit but take good notes and study them well and you will make a an A or B.
he makes economics so easy. you do have to write detailed notes. if you dont understand something he will brake it down and give examples. he is great.
He didn't make tests all that hard and as long as you listened to every lecture and read the book you would ace this class.
He is a very helpful professor, take good notes, tough material. Don't buy the book, buy his book, he tells you the first day of class.
very helpful. Very knowlegable. Pretty fair. No need to buy the textbook. You do have to study hard to pass his exams. His tests are easy if you study. Has quite a few assignments and a 10 page paper. Not too much work though
He is a great and understanding professor, sometimes i feel sorry for him because people take advantage of him. He is a hard professor, be sure to make it to his class because attendence is very important to him. You have to study his notes really well to pass. But overall a great professor.
Tests are not easy... Class are good...An easy C
An excellent professor. Knows how to teach and is very interested in passing maximum info. to his students. A very helpful and coordinating instructor.
No easy but you'll learn a lot. Overall, a great professor!
just use your notes and you will fine on all of his exams - and do not bother byuing the book: he never once referred to it in class.
He is a great prof, but the tests are not easy. Come to class and take a good note then you be fine. easy C
Who says easy C? Who wants a C to begin with? This professor is difficult to understand, his test are extremly hard. He makes you buys his lectures notes, and they are not helpful. It's like asking to borrow someones notes and then when you look at them you think wow the person doesnt know how to take notes at all.
Do not take, his test are extremely hard, if you have a question about test he'll say talk to during office hours.Offers lots of extra credit if you go to see the speakers, or volunteer for the IBA. But most evening students have JOBS,, and he doesnt offer any extra credit for them. His notes are not helpful, and he repreats himself all the time.
This is a very hard class!! He doesn't teach he just reads of his lectures that you have to buy. He doesn't help you at all. He doesn't take into consideration people that work. He gives extra credit but only if you join his organization and attend events on weekends. You go to his office to talk to him and he is very rude!! Don't take him!!!
Just want to say he's good teacher and you'll learn alot. Must go to class...don't skip!
Hes a nice guy and really does want students to do well. You have to go to class or he starts taking pints off your grade. Also assigns ALOT of work. Assignments take 5-6 hrs. to complete. But if you do them, you'll know exactly what to expect for the tests.
Really nice guy, must attend class in order to get an understanding of the class!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked the class, learned a lot. Very soft spoken man.
Online eco development class. The class covers a lot of material. There are 5 quizes and 4 exams all given on Sundays. As long as you read all of the material and understand the how to do the calculations, the exams are not too difficult and the quizes are pretty easy. He was very helpful and responded to emails and questions promptly. Recommended.
Dr. Islam is a great professor, you will learn a lot in his class. He is very knowledgeable in the subject and is truly a great asset for UHD. I wish more professors at UHD would be more like him. If you want to learn, then enroll in his class, he can teach.
Great Macroeconomics teacher, take this man,he is willing to help students succeed, and knows his stuff, also a very kind hearted man.God Bless you Dr Islam
Dr. Islam is an excellent teacher and can make Economics easy while teaching. He is very helpful if you ask for it. He doesn't post his lecture notes on Vista, so you have to write every single thing from the projector. Just use his notes to study for the exams and DON'T BUY THE BOOK!! He doesn't use it. He makes his tests very tricky.
I took him for economic development summer 1 and now taking international economics. He's very helpful and overall a nice guy. He does cover a lot of assigned reading material but once you understand the calculations and concepts you'll do fine.
I took Dr. Islam for Economical Development Online and his quizzes and tests are hard if you don't read and understand the material, but he is very helpful and responds to emails very quickly. As long as you do your work, you will be fine and you will actually learn a lot from this online course!
he is good
NEVER AGAIN..this was an elective for me. I've noticed if a Prof. has Phd after their name..avoid..I give credit for their hard work, but some of us aren't at that level yet. He sells a CD for 25 dollars of his written articles, very confusing. Then you have to make sure you read 10-15 addt'l articles and test is 20 questions. What do you study?
I took 2302 online Summer I and it was hard. The majority of the class had failing grades-average 50's. With ALOt of studying I made a B. I would not consider another class taught by him.
I took Economic Development online... 5 quiz, 3 test and a final. IMPERATIVE to have his lecture notes, since most of the test are based on his articles and notes. Great professor, Helpful but HARD. You need to read A LOT, time consuming and sometimes boring. He does not curve. Don't take him if you are not committed.
I took this class for summer online. You read a Lot, but it is interesting material & articles. 5 quizzes 3 tests & final. Not hard just be committed to reading. Quick to respond to your questions. Would take him again.
Took this online summer. DO NOT buy his notes, READ and watch videos. If you do this you will pass. He does respond quickly to questions but does not provide any power points or self test like other professors. Overall class is not hard and there is no extra credit.
TBH He is a great teacher! He loves what he teaches and really gets into it BUT and a big BUT the man needs to realizes this is not the only class we have. The amount of material is too much and his test are killer no curve avoid if you can.
Makes his own expensive book and CD. bombards you with articles and spends a great deal of focus on the middle east. Test is difficult due to time constraints.
Yes this class is extremely challenging online but Professor Islam is very helpful. If you take this online, READ THE BOOK! Also pair up with classmates and review for the texts, exam and quizzes together.
Very difficult guy, very wordy test questions doesn't realize you only have 1.15 mins. He is only choice don't plan on majoring in intern" business. In my class out of 30 7 dropped, 12 got d, 8 got b and 3 got a. Cheating is probably recommend, because getting help from or group is basically same thing. Forget your morals and guilty feeling.
Dr. Islam is a sweet professor, but be ready to work hard. Tests are very hard. Assignments are easy. Quizzes are completed online and are easy. Would not take again.
Lots of reading, if you do it all you will be fine. Some of the questions on his tests are wrong, he will give you points for explaining your reasoning. He left a lot of feedback on papers and gave you a chance to correct them for extra credit. Polite and respectful, but at times comes close to proselytizing the Muslim faith. I would take him again
He was awful! I took him as a hybrid class and he postponed the second exam 6 weeks later, clarification was bad! extra credit just one! those he curve?? NO He Dose not... if you think u can teach yourself, go for it other than that forget it! Good Luck!
Dr. islam is the sweet professor, he is a little hard to understand but go to his office hours he is always willing to explain in 4 different ways. His test are long and dreading but read and do examples you will be fine. don't skip homework. he is always willing to find a way for you to be better. talk to him and he WILL HELP! I would take again!
If you read the chapters beforehand, you will have a better understanding of the lectures in class. If you ask questions, he will help you understand the answer. Do the online homework assignments to help you understand the graphs and terms. I went into this course not realizing how economics surrounds our world. I will be taking him for ECO2302.
awful at the upper level class gives to much work test are very random, but will help you if you need it, i would not recommend especially if your lazy, because you will fail, unfortunately he is the only INTB prof. so you have no choice you will go above and beyond in this class best way to pass is to cheat or group test so can get a passing grade
It is a lot of work and if you are not committed to do the work then don't take the class unless you are okay with a c or d. He is a great professor who is passionate about economics and very smart. If you do the readings and the homeworks you can definitely get an A. I have taken him for two classes and might take him on a 3rd one
International Economics could have been a great class, but the material was 5 years old at a minimum and very focused on Bangladesh (and written by Dr. Islam). No mention of TPP, Briexit, Rio Olympics, etc. A lot of reading. Chaotic quizzes and tests that may or may not cover assigned material. Asked for help once, was told to Google it.
Professor is disorganized and difficult. He posts material for quizzes and tests late. almost two days before the test is due, which gives no time to condense nor understand fully the information of the topics. Both Quizzes and Tests topics were between articles of 5 pages to 16 and to read 2 or 3 chapters per quiz and test as well. He is not good.
To pass this course I needed my classmates, 2 required books, and all my Saturdays. Quizzes on Thurs. and tests on Saturdays. It was a lot for a summer course. Final is 100 q's. It really does take a village to get an A. Professor Islam is accessible and flexible, but not always useful.
He is a wonderful teacher, very knowledgeable! I barely passed his course with a B that I worked very hard for. Just because you have to work hard doesn't mean it's a bad class, it's a lot of knowledge he's giving you. You will work hard. The homework he give is a lot of what's on the test, in terms of graphs. GO TO CLASS or else you won't pass!
Dr. Islam is extremely knowledgeable. His course is extremely hard. You MUST come to class to pass and PAY ATTENTION. The textbook is a waste of money because he ONLY works from his own book, so do buy his but not the schools. Does not curve at all, so make sure you STUDY! He is nice so if you have a question, he is always willing to help.
Worst Economics Professor that UHD has. This professor does not care to help students and expects you to have no life if you are taking his class. Vey disorganized, and gives a very heavy test where you barely have time to answer everything. I learned more about Bangladesh than economics. Do yourself a favor and DON'T take him!
VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE LIKE OTHER STUDENTS MENTION, CLASS IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, TEST AND QUIZZES YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE EVERY DETAIL, YOUR READING IS IMPORTANT YOU MUST WORK HARD TO PASS, TEACHER IS WILLING TO HELP BUT IS STILL DIFFICULT THE BEST THING TO DO IS ONLINE AND GROUP TEST TO PASS GOOD LUCK.
Gpa destroyer. His teaching style is completely different than that of other UH professors. His hw answers can be found online, exams are mostly multiple choice, with one to three written questions. Review is mostly useless. He expects you to participate in his open ended in class question, gets mad if you dont. Picks on most of the students.
I had to learn everything myself, heavy accent, very unprofessional. Seems like he just wants to show up and collect his paycheck. Went to his office hours, didnt want to help, was watching soccer game. Doesnt return exams. Never returns homework on time. Skip this professor - if no one else is teaching, save for different semester if you can.
He teaches Econ 3334, not Econ 3370. But yes, those reviews are 100% accurate.
3 exams, 6 hws, reviews do not reflect exams. PowerPoints are useless. Get the book and study on your own. Good luck.
If you want to learn, this is not the professor to learn from. If you want to cheat, this is the type of professor who will help you to cheat. Everything is posted online in the last minute. Such as exam reviews. One week to complete tremendously hard homework assignments.
I feel like Im learning from a third world PH.D Professor. He never labels his graph axis, half of the time Im guessing the graph labels. Everything is crammed into a last minute deadline. Im not sure if he has proper training - or doesnt care - but back to the point. Save your time, money, brain cells, dignity, gpa, & avoid this porofessor.
very poor teaching
Professor Islam is very knowledgeable in the area of economics and he was very helpful when I went to his office, however his test review does not reflect the actual test and he has you doing ALOT of unnecessary reading. DO NOT take his class online, its better to take his class in person, if you want a fighting chance at passing.
If you are willing to put in hard work , you will reap the results . Keep your spirit high and success shall arrive in his class.
Toughest class I have ever taken. This could have been much better if he would only use textbook and not quizzes on random articles. All quizzes and tests are open book but make sure you read or you won't pass. Final exam proctored. He gives more quizzes for extra credit. Each quiz and tests will have multiple chapters and articles to read.
Stay away from him. Dr Islam is the worst. I have took the class and learn nothing. everything is unclear. 5 quizzes and three test plus the final. Hard Hard Hard, impossible to find anything online.
this is my last semester. I have never took a tough class like this class before. Dr. Islam makes the class so difficult. he has 5 quizzes and 3 tests plus the final. each quiz has 3 to 5 articles, each article has 15 to 25 pages plus the videos and the videos sometimes 2 and a half hours. this is just a quiz. stay away from him.
This is by far the worst class I've ever taken. You have to read so much for every quiz and even when you do you fail the quizzes! I wish there was another professor for this class because this crap is unreal! Prof Islam, if you're reading this, change the way your tests and quizzes are because they're currently designed for us to FAIL!!!!!
I don't see how any student can recommend him. He grades by quizzes, tests, and final exam only. No assignments AT ALL. All his quizzes were from different articles, most of the the were written by him. It just felt like he was forcing us to read his papers. And course material were completely different. I like to read, but this class was too much.
I had taken this professor before. Promised myself that I would never take him again. But this semester, I had no option. 5 articles anywhere from 5-15 pages+videos just for the quizzes. The tests did not have any of those articles. We had to study different materials from it. We were lucky this semester due to covid19, we got some extra credit.
This professor based the class on his published work, so Quizzes and Tests have questions on them, not the book. He provides more than enough sources to read, but the amount and format in which they are provided can become difficult to retain. Lecture videos are hard understand, so the only way to pass is to break down the reading material.
prof makes you read his own published materials more than the textbook., tests and quizzes have questions mainly pertaining to his published work. I do not recommend taking this class if you are taking more than 3 classes. His reading articles are insanely long, 5-30 pg long. He expects you to read all of this not even regarding your other classes
Incredibly kind man. I complained about the pacing of the class and he literally changed the assignment dates for a week for everyone, which blew my mind. So caring. Timely responses. Class is mostly self taught. Connect homework is easy to do, and he gives you unlimited chances to do it, which helps a lot. He's smart, and his lectures were fun.
Hear me out if you want to pass please do not take him. This class is extremely hard because he made you read a lot of articles and he only grades by quizzes and tests which is not good. The final is 100 questions which is a lot and is comprehensive. I am a good student but I am doubting myself because of this class so if you can find another prof.
Dr. A was a good professor. He would try his best to accommodate every student and would give us extra time to turn in assignments. Class is super easy, connect practice and homework, 3 tests, 2 discussions, and the final. The only con is that I would recommend you double check your grades to make sure grade is calculated correctly.
the course was very irrational, better learn yourself (via ppt or pdf docs), doesn't go over the remaining chapters before a test, some of the articles has nothing to do with econ and half of them are outdated. Some of the questions on each exam do not make sense. I avoided this class for 3 semesters since he's the only one for this course.
We had to make an entire group chat of all the students just to keep up with the inconsistent due dates (of years ago) from the BB Calendar and his syllabus. This is THE LAZIEST copy/paste professor Ive ever had. If I feel lost in life, Ill remember him and if HE can teach a college class, then surely Ill get to where Im going.
Took summer 5 weeks class & super intense. Lots homework, 3 Test + Final Lockdown browser. Hard to understand his lectures (heavy accent) you don't have to attend. Barely pass with a C. He's caring & work w/your schedule. He wants you to pass but you need put in lots of work & learn. This isn't an easy breezy class. There's extra credit chances.
The professor makes many spelling mistakes, his syllabus is a copy paste of the last year one where he does not change the dates and times, he gets upset when no one knows when things are due but he doesn't try and fix things. Oh yeah, I am trying to take a test on lockdown browser and it won't let me continue because of an error on his part.
Yes, most of the assignments are on Connect. The workload is heavy, yet, he offers extra credit and gives points on the quizzes. I really, really disliked doing the homework because it was so much; however, he does try to help you out
One of the worst professors to take I honestly have no idea how I passed because I was ready to retake this class during the spring time. His syllabus is a copy/past from yearssss ago. He doesnt change the due dates to reflect the current semester. He gets upset when we call him out on it. Super disorganized. Never will I take a class from him!!!
Criticism about the syllabus is definitely true. Took the 5-week summer class with him only because there was a change in professor at the last minute. The workload is pretty much the same as 230. Attending lectures is better than having no lecture, despite the resonance of his voice, as long as you have completed the pre-class assignment on McGraw
Unless you have a tremendous amount of time to spare and are very patient, find a different professor.
Exams can only be taken Saturdays. Islam does not work weekends. Rarely responds to emails. Grading rubrics for EVERY assignment unclear. All course content is from years ago and outdated/irrelevant. Islam makes an easy class into an incredibly difficult one. Emails he sends to the class are insulting & demeaning. Worst professor I have ever had.
Decent lecturer and very flexible with schedules and grading. However, he is not tech-savvy at all. He posted the wrong final exam I had to take(2 hours of my time gone). At the end of the semester, he couldn't even calculate final grades correctly, showing I had a C on my transcript when I had an A.
Class is all through Connect. Lots of homework due at the time of exams, do it throughout the period you will be fine, do not wait last minute for though. He gives reviews for the exams. Not particularly easy or hard. I think it is a very fair course. 3 exams each worth 20%. Final is worth 30%. Hwk & discussions for 15%. 5% for the syllabus quiz.
You have to be on top of your own work, if you want an easy A…. This class is not for you. It's straight forward. It's mostly about meeting deadlines. I'm writing this review 2 semesters later because when i took this class i was deathly afraid to fail. It's not rocket science. Do your work. Meet deadlines. You'll be fine.
We had some technical issues early in the semester but seemed to get sorted out. The homework is very lengthy and takes a lot of time to stay on top of it or you'll fall behind. Overall, I'd recommend this class.
