1 or 2 essays a week minimum.
work, work work!
Not exactly an easy class but she made it fun. However, make sure you use plenty of transition words because she loves them. Also, she grades fairly hard but she might give you a cookie for trying:)
she's very helpful when you ask questions like email you and stuff..not very hard on grading essays..just do the work and you'll be fine.
What a fantastic teacher! She is always asking "SO WHAT" but it helped me to be a better writer. I loved her choice of topics especially SuperSize Me!
This teacher says she will work with you, but she never does. She wouldn't even give me leniency for needing time out of class for a surgery. She is an anal-retentive student-hating cookie baker who needs to leave the teaching to the academics. Die Part Timers!!!
I thought she was great. She kept me motivated and interested in the class. She lets you fix your mistakes for a better grade, that was huge.
I do not think she can teach. She just stands up in front of the class, name calls, and ridicules the students. She whines when she tries to lecture--you really bear the burden of learning anything and the textbook was the worst I have seen.
Anita is a terrific instructor. Yes the class is tough - but it's HISTORY and History IS tough. The tests are essay, but if you read it, you're ready. Anita, as a person: she is laid back, caring, tough and always there to help...all great qualities!
This instructor is not good with teaching infront of a classroom. The instructor loses her temper quickly, and changes essay requirements before the due date. I would prefer not have another class with this instructor.
Yet another example of why the college needs to dump their part-timers and get professionals. I felt like I was back in high school. We spent almost every class day listening to her read out of the textbook... I paid money to have someone read my text book to me?! Be prepared to listen to her get onto her soap box a lot, and yer payin for it.
Nice once you get to know her, book was horrible and boring to read.
I really can't say it any better than the last comment. She reads directly from the book, she makes the class into a highschool.. I thought that she was helpful, but the fact that she is just so unclear and vague in her lessons makes this class not worth the money. I would definatly suggest finding a different teacher.
This teacher doesn't know anything about history. She once told us that history didn't occur chronologically. Her quiz and test questions are full of double negatives and extremely difficult to understand because they do not make any sense at all. DO NOT TAKE A HISTORY CLASS FROM THIS TEACHER!
This class was pointless, i hated attending and none of the so-called lectures helped me or classmates at all. This should be an online course i would have probably learned more.
Great class, informative and fun. She's a good teacher and seems to want students to learn and pass. Book OK, lectures very helpful, good films, presentations fun. Can pass essay exams if read and take notes.
She is an awesome teacher... will help you on your essay's after class. Those who say she isn't a good teacher are the slackers. If you show up, do your work... you will get an A. She even lets us out early most classes... she isn't a tough teacher at all.
Yes, she does read from the book. However, you go home read the chapter and then she goes over the important areas for notes. Like what will be on the test. Then she will play a video for the class on that section. It was so helpful. After class if you had questions she would help answer them for you. Essay test questions she gives ahead of time.
you better be GREAT at taking your own notes at home from the book because she only lectures and rarely writes two words on the board. she also will ask questions and just wait until anyone answers so do everyone a favor and answer if you know it.
Professor Knudson is a wonderful teacher. She expects allot from her students, however she's also very fair in her grading. Very easy-going, laid back, great sense of humor. All she asks for is to come to class prepared (i.e. read the assigned material). She made learning history allot of fun. Thanks Prof. Knudson!!!
Good history teacher, she makes it interesting and helps you learn. Need to read and textbook hard to follow, but she goes over to put in order. Tests aren't hard if you read and she's a fair grader. A good choice for a required class.
As others said before, the class is similar to a high school class. She reads everything straight from the text and talks down to the class. The class isn't hard, it's just a pain having to sit through it.
Anita is not the best history teacher. I took her class immediately following Dr. Lam's 312 course and was dismayed. The textbook was horrible and I barely retained anything from the class.
If you want to spend a lot of money buying books for her class, good choice. If you want extremely boring lectures in which she basically tells you whats in the text book, good choice. If you want to have so much homework and reading that you have almost no time for anything else, good choice. If you dont like any of these dont take her courses
Not a very interesting person. She makes history extremely monotone and always influences her english teaching into the history class. She is biased and if you do not have the same views as her, GOOD LUCK!
Good class. Mrs. K offered good sources, like films, books, lectures, to learn from, which I did. Essay exams not easy; she expects a lot, tho not much more than should be in a college class. I'd take her again if I needed more history.
She was all over the place with her lectures and it was hard to track with her thoughts. VERY BORING! Not a good history teacher
Lots of interesting info given in this class. I liked the methods Mrs. K used along with text, like the extra readings that were relevant and interesting. Like most classes, this one's easy to pass if you just do the work and go to class.
Easy B. I don't even think that she read the papers, just gave them B's. Very boring and biased. Does not take well to alternative thought. Gets caught up on stupid details that don't matter.
The class was relatively easy. She is not helpful in ANY way on the analyses that we had to do which made it a really stressful and difficult assignment. She is also very strict on her test essays.
Took FOREVER to grade tests/essays. One of our essays was due before the previous one had been returned, so you couldn't tell what you had to improve on! Says that people who finish the essay tests in 30 minutes or less are likely to fail and gives them dirty looks. I always finished at that time and waited to turn it in and got B's on each one.
Interesting and fairly easy summer class. Analyses not difficult, essay exams easy since Mrs. K let us bring notes, and presentations fun. Compared to some profs, she was clear and took time to explain things if asked. I'd definitely take her class again.
Anita is a gr8 teacher. She does go off the book BUT provides vid.,artcls,&websts 2 incorp evrythng 2 help make it clearer. The essay exams are hard BUT she goes over them prior 2 the test OR hints 2 what the ?'s might b.I got a C due to my attendence (I think) but got B's on my essays.Read, take notes, ask ?s, show up, its easy & its college people!
THIS TEACHER AND HER CLASS ARE A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! SHE SHOULD BE FIRED ALREADY!
This teacher was in my opinion the perfect summer class teacher, I received a reasonable, yet intense, workload that allowed me to succeed while actually learning from her. I learned the most about writing essays in this class than I have in all of my previous classes combined. A+ teacher. Highly recommended.
Took forever to return essays. Fairly easy in grading. Class was boring. I do not recomend this class. Find a Prof. who is more intresting, she is not worth the $26 a unit
Prof K is a great writing teacher. I'd taken the class before with another teacher and learned nothing, but I did learn with Prof. K. She was very helpful and always asked for questions to help clear up any confusion. Getting papers back was an issue, but not enough when compared to what I learned.
I thought this class was good; it's history so lots of lecture, but lectures interesting and she included film and discussion. She loves the topic and that showed in her teaching. I took notes, read the books, and pulled an A. I'd definitely recommend her to all and in fact have.
Funny, very helpful, demands respect (as one should)
Lets just say lectures and timely grading are not her forte. shes very confusing at times (i.e "I don't distinguish between excused or unexcused absences") really? Then what is an excused absence? She tends to go on rants and many tangents during lectures. She is very unorganized and doesn't seem like she plans any of her lectures. Don't take her!
She was not a very good teacher. She acted like she knew everything and treated her students like crap when any of them asked questions. She is very biased and thinks her way is best even when it is not. She grades extremely hard.
Mrs. Knudson was such a terrible professor that she actually made me doubt in my ability as a writer and as a student. Her rampant feminism got in the way of her teaching and she very unprofessionally gave me a bad grade on my research paper for arguing a viewpoint she disagreed with. She doesn't give out A's either, so be prepared for the GPA hit.
Professor Knudson grades very hard, and is not good at grading and returning work in a timely manner. She does not provide a professional atmosphere, and is very unorganized.
I didn't see her as hard at all; she just expects more out of her students. I didn't see her as disorganized or bias or feminist. She has an opinion but lets you get yours out as well. I enjoyed the class and actually learned some things. Isn't that what college is about?
Prof. Knudson is NOT that hard of a teacher. She expects a lot out of you, and expects you to be adult about everything (for instance, taking the initiative when you miss a day), but it's far from unrealistic. "A"s are possible, guys. I got one on almost all my major papers, and ended with an A in the class. If you failed, you were just being lazy.
Assumes you already know everything. Class time is used watching presentations not learning. Expected to read everything on your own and no discussion in class. Very high expectations.
High expectations!!! This class is more a self taught class. She doesn't go over material before tests. Doesn't give your work back in a timely manner. She doesn't give you a progress report to know how your doing in class. You have to know everything for tests you never know what she will ask. Only good thing she doesn't give a final
This was my second semester with Knudson (last time was an English class), and it WAS a bit harder this time. She still acts like an English teacher. There's TONS of reading, which at first is overwhelming, but it gets easier. Pay CLOSE attention to the presentations, and you'll probably be able to slide through without ALL the reading. I did.
Pretty easy class. She tells you options you need to study for prior to the test and lets you bring a notecard. She quizzes out of small book so if you don't read that one you will fail quizzes. I hardly used the big book. You have to do a presentation and a book review, too. That's pretty much it. Should easily be able to get a B.
Took a 8week summer class and expects you to read alot. Had to read a textbook, primary source readings and quizes, read and do a book review as well as a 90 minute group presenation. I didn't really learn anything. lectures were pointless. She does tell you what the essay exams will ask and allows a note card. a self taught class really.
She's pretty tough. I wish i had taken the class when i didn't have 3 other intense classes to deal with also. She's a good teacher, but kind of rude, and comes off crazy. But what english professor isn't!?
I took Prof. Knudsen twice, Eng and His. She is an interesting and nice person, but has no control of her class. She has no clue as to when to step in and shut her anti-ethnic students down.
Good teacher, but rarely gets your work back to you on time. Grades pretty strictly (so you learn), but my biggest complaint is I could not readily understand what she needed changed on writing style/papers since she never got our assignments back to us on time :(
Be prepared to be challenged. She is a good teacher, but nothing too special. She is not an easy grader and does not provide much help. Also, she gives back her papers late. However, we only had one quiz om MLA format, so if you're lucky, you may not have to take a grammar quiz at the end of the term.
by far my favorite English writing teacher! After taking her course my writing had improved drastically!she is an amazing teacher! work hard on the essay and don't be scared to ask for help! I would recommend consistently revising and working hard on the essays because she will give you the grade you deserve.
I love this teacher this class was hard but she went beyond to help me and make sure I did well
I was scared to take her class because of the reviews on here but she is one of the best professors I've had. She will help you if you ask and the essay topics are very interesting. I thougt I sucked at English but I got an A on my first essay. She is a bit slow with grading but I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Her class is very hard, she grades hard & expects that you know everything before you take the class. Does not explain anything. You will also have to read ALOT. Its a ridiculous class.
She was a really helpful teacher. It was my first college class and I learned alot
I would rate Ms. Knudson as a high quality professor. Her grading is pretty lenient and is happy to assist students with any issues concerning the assignments. Speaking of assignments, there are not many. We had five graded to turn in, two of which were exams. Would recommend her HIST 313 to any fellow student!
I do not want to come here to bash Knudson. But seriously, if I could go back in time I would NOT have taken her class. She is an incredibly hard grader and doesn't communicate well. I sent her 3 emails to which she never responded. Super boring, I dreaded her class. When I asked questions, she made me feel very dumb. I wish I hadn't taken her.
I would not recommend taking her class. She is inconsistent with her itinerary and doesn't seem to want to answer any questions you have, You have to read each chapter in the following class there is a chapter review then she spends the rest of the class period going over what you just did a chapter review on. Redundant and nonsensical
I loved Knudson! I have had her before for my English class and I just finished up with her history class. She is not a hard grader and she is always there to answer any questions you may have. I really enjoyed her class, sometimes the powerpoint gets a little boring but she always tries to throw something exciting in there or show a video/movie!
Prof. Knudson was incredibly boring and not great at giving feedback or answering questions. In fact, she was often condescending to students, myself included. She reads from a Power Point presentation for each lecture and makes no attempt to make it interesting.
Mrs. Knudson is a good history teacher. She does have a lot of reading, but what is expected for a college history class. She's very helpful if you ask for help. And she changes up her teaching style with film, pictures, docs, and interesting info not in the textbook. If you do the work, you'll pass without problem.
Unfortunately if you enjoy American history prepare to be bored. Majority of the class is focused on native american abuse and slavery. Important issues, surely, but the extreme focus on these while quickly glazing over the revolution and civil war is mind boggling. There is a lack of direction with assignments and very antiquated teaching style.
Professor Knudson, despite what others say, is a good teacher. This is a lecture-based course, so of course there is lecture, but she adds variety with films, document projects, discussion. I especially liked the group presents; they added more info to specific topics and were fun. She's helpful if you ask too.
Shes a very tough grader and doesnt explain what she wants or how to do assignments. She expects you to be proficient in everything she teaches before she actually teaches it, if she actually teaches it at all. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone
Just a difficult class I wouldnt take this class again. Doesnt explain the lecture clearly and expects more from You even though, she didnt teach the lecture
You must need to follow instructions and feedback
Knudson lectures from a podium, if you don't enjoy history her lectures will probably bore you, but the information is good. she does require reading and does test on the reading but her class was not difficult to pass.
She is a good history teacher. She made it easy to learn a lot and actually understand and even like it. She lectures, but just briefly recaps what you were to read on your own, then adds other info and projects to help add to that. Plus she's willing to help. I had some issues this semester and she was awesome in helping me out.
It's history but she tries to make it interesting. There's textbook, inclass, out of class readings but she gives plenty of time to do it all. There's lecture but with powerpoint, films, videos, and other things to do to add to it all. There is a take-home mid-term and final, plus a book review. Easy to pass if you pay attention and do the work.
Good teacher, but expect to read--the textbook which is awful--and two non-fiction books that were really good. There's lots of information, but she helped to put it in order. I liked how she connected all to a theme the mid-term and final were based on. There were reading quizzes on the text, but also extra credit. Give her a chance; she's good.
I thought her class was enjoyable, and it was not too strenuous, though was a little heavy in the writing and reading. Two bibliographical reports on two separate books was a little unnecessary for students not interested in English/literature, but yeah I know, "welcome to college". I still feel like I learned a lot, so overall it was a good experi
Teaches very differently than any of the other English professors. Anything youve learned previously be prepared to throw out the window bc it doesnt matter. Very rude. Always targets students individually especially those w/ mental challenges. Class is an easy A yes, but do not recommend as an over all professor.
Professor Knudson is a good teacher. She has high expectations, but is willing to help you reach them. Heavy on group work which are helpful and fun. Workshops for essays also helpful. Great on essay feedback. I'm learning more in this class than I have before about to academic writing.
Very kind and caring instructor. She is very passionate about her subject and helping students.
I really enjoyed having Anita as a professor. She is very outspoken, which can be taken differently by each student but I thought she was hilarious and always very honest. If you ask her for help she is more than happy to assist you and always makes assignments very clear.
Prof. Knudson is amazing. She is so caring and super supportive. Ofc it is hard and you have to try and there is a lot of writing and a lot of assignments but is is worth it. I had her for my very first semester in college (online) and she was just incredible. I wish she was teaching other classes but she doesn't and that is making me feel so bad.
THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY EDUCATION. WISH A ZERO WAS AN OPTION. She works with you, then immediately turns around and disregards everything. Bad grader, gives one worded feedback that doesnt make sense. No timely responses and refuses to grade any of the assignments until youre left contemplating dropping it. Save yourself the trouble. Dont.
Even though you try to work for it, she still finds a way to dock points off. Very frustrating. Find another teacher
Read directions CAREFULLY. NO LATE WORK NO EXCEPTIONS(at least in six week course). No zoom meetings just articles to read(textbook is helpful). Comma/semi-colon tests weekly(really hard even with practice). Responds to email in about 1-2 hrs. Essay feedback is vague. Good thesis feedback. 3 Essays total(5+ paragraphs). She's fair not forgiving.
