She sucks at life. Avoid her at all costs.
She was alright, nothing remarkable, and nothing horrible. Her exams are extremely boring to the point that you don't even know if you're having a hard time concentrating because of the difficulty or because you just want to get out.
She's not a bad prof. It's not fair that everyone comes down on her just because the course is hard. If you take good notes, she covers all we need to know on the quizzes and exams. A little hard to book time to meet with her, but she's a very busy woman. She encourages questions in class and tries to be cool, but she IS a nice person. A good prof.
she really doesn't deserve all the smack people write about her. she said she refined her teaching skills in washington this past summer and it definitely worked! she's a great prof. she makes all the exams/quizes for all accting classes, so she tells you exactly what you need to know for it if you're in her class. do the work and you'll do fine.
I can't agree with everyone that says that she was a great prof and the people that give her bad ratings just don't get the material. I did quite well her as a professor was dry her jokes not funny and she would act like she was better then you. If you went to talk to her she would act like you should know the answer. Very horrible professor.
She teaches well but she is not at all willing to help you...she is always giving excuses as to whay she cannot help you. I am not taking her class again!
Lakra was nice but pretty boring. I thought I would enjoy ACCT as I had loved it in BSEN but she crushed that out of me quickly by telling the students how this was dumb and boring. Really. A prof shouldn't be bashing their own profession and be serious about it.
Terrible professor. She has no passion for the subject and has even told me so. She thinks accounting is boring and useless, so naturally this attitude is conveyed through her teaching. Does not do a good job teaching at all. In fact, in order to even understand what she is lecturing on, you have to first learn it on your own. Useless prof.
As a person she is a great.Always helps you if you have any ACCT questions. However, in the lecture- absolutely horrible. She runs through the material like a 60 m sprinter in Olympic games.Doesn't like her job, told us so in class. Prepare to READ/UNDERSTAND chapter before you come to lecture. She does ALL ACCT exams-so you know what ur up to.
THIS IS THE WORST PROF EVER. Unless you are a total keener that learns everything on your own... she is the most condescending teacher ever. rushes thru material and unwilling to help. don't get fooled by those students sayin she is ok. SHE IS NOT AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I don't know what the big deal is, her tests were more than fair and you had plenty of time to complete them. It's an accounting class for god's sake and the only reason you would do bad in her class is if you didn't read the text and do the recommended problems.
While the class is dull, Anita tries her hardest to make it fun. (sometimes with success). She knows the material and if you ask questions in class it makes the work easier. Very fair quizzes and midterms.
A good prof, you can see the effort she makes to clearly explain the material and even joke a little in class...
Had her for 317 and 323, never realized how bad she was until I actually got professors who knew their stuff. She has no "real world" experience and it shows. She's not that hard, but if you are an acct major I would stay away.
You cannot go through Accounting 317 and 323 without being under her at least once, so might as well take her for 317 to get a bit of idea how she teaches stuff. And I think she's OK. She's not as helpful and approachable, but you have your textbook to guide you through the course! Know the book. and practice.
Tells a lot of lame jokes, inst very funny. I like her teaching style, notes with examples.
I thought she was a great prof. If you come to class having pre-read the information she is a good teacher. This is an accounting class, you cant expect to not read the chapters and have everything taught from her. Pre-read, come to class, take notes, you will do just fine!
She's not bad at all. Just make sure you read the text and do the assigned questions. Her notes were horrible and her handwriting was not clear though. I would take another class with her again.
Not a very good prof...she teaches horribly and you cannot read her writing. Midterm is hard.
Reccomended professor!
I really likes Anita. The class is hard, but that's to be expected. She's super helpful, almost always made it to class, and made a huge effort to help her students. Alot of people had complaints, and I don't know why, as long as you put in the effort you'll do just fine in her class.
Worst Prof on the planet.
Hard to follow class - no slides, all notes written!
Anita is a great person! Only bad thing I can say about her class is that she has messy writing, and continuously moves up and down through the notes, making it almost impossible to write everything down. Just read through the text before class (like she suggests) and you will be fine!
This course is hard, not matter who the teacher is. Anita did a pretty good job teaching the course.
Not at all as bad as people make her out to be. The overhead notes are very frustrating for a course like this though I suppose her reasoning for using them is for our benefit.
Nice prof, but doesn't go into enough detail.Does many examples but doesn't specify format/classifications/common errors each time, but you will do terribly on the midterm and final if you don't have these crystal clear(our TA was more helpful)Textbook was horrible to find specifics, must throughly read each chapter and go to every class.
If you took acct 317 with her and you decide to take acct 323 with her again, then you are wrong!! The other acct profs are much better than her and her notes are always hard and unorganized. She tells you to read the textbook before class, but if you take acct323 with other prof (Irene Herremans) , you don't need to do that!!
If you are major in ACCT, take her; if you are not, take other professors as they can make study easier.
I've had four classes with her since Darryl left and it has been HELL. Her teaching is scattered and weak and her personality is downright abrasive. When a question is challenged she would rather defend her answer than clarify the material. I can't believe anyone could handle her for an entire semester let alone two.
Her teaching isn't good and she comes off a bit loopy. I think she tries to be nice and I feel kinda bad for her. Not a fan of her high scale for this class or the Saturday morning midterm though.
Anita is a nice person at heart but can't answer a question to save her life. She comes off completely rude with her answers. There was a challenged student in our class and she completely disregarded his/her questions, even if they are totally relevant. Hard tests/quizzes, disorganized notes, no help on a personal basis. Textbook mandatory.
The worst acct teacher ever. She doesn't know how to teach, nor does she knows what she teaches. Horrible!
Extremely disorganized, notes are hard to read, must attend every class because nothing in posted online. Quizzes, midterm and final were HARD only because her notes are TERRIBLE.
If I could truly express how I feel about her as a professor this post would not be allowed, horrible teaching style, disorganized, cannot read her writing, half the class is spent asking her to re read her notes, exams are unbelievably hard, go in with an A? you'll be lucky to get a B-... oh but she smiles alot, if that counts for anything? Nope
Terrible. Basically she flies through her notes at 400 km/h in a disorganized fashion She goes up and down on her overhead placing stuff all over the place making it insanely hard. Contradicts herself alto.Using the textbook is a breath of fresh air. Avoid at ALL COSTS!
Avoid at ALL costs! Terrible teacher, horrible teaching skills, completely unorganized, very rude to anyone who asks questions, if you wish to get a good grade, avoid this prof
Anita decides to completely skip mandatory parts of the material and use her own useless examples to attempt at teaching, I think she is in the wrong field and needs to be an accountant rather than a professor, shes a horrible professor
Her writing is so messy.she was being rude to students. I don't like her teaching style at all!!
I had Anita for ACCT 317 and 323, and I actually liked her. As a person, she can be rude and anal about ridiculous things. However, as a prof, she is really good. Her notes are messy, but she repeats everything so it isn't hard to keep up, and she covers absolutely everything! She also gives excellent practice questions! I would recommend her.
Anita is nice but her the way she teaches is terrible. Messy scribbles on the overhead. Quizzes were hard, midterm was hard. Very rude when I went to see her during office hours. Sitting at a C- after midterm and ended up dropping. Retook it in the spring and got a A- with a different prof.
Definitely the worst prof to take ACCT 323 with. Good luck understanding anything she does up front, I withdrew after the first quiz . Currently taking it again with Cynthia and liking it much better.
she is very pleasant. her expectations of students are reasonable:don?t use your cellphoe, if you come in late sit at the back etc. but her writing is very messy, the textbook isn?t the greatest. and she goes very quickly and is impatient to explain concepts if you don?t understand
The worst professor I have encountered at UofC and theres ALOT of crappy profs at this school. Taking a class with her is just setting yourself up for failure... But you have to do 317 with her since she writes the exam regardless of what section you're with.
Worst prof encountered thus far in Haskayne. She's unbelievably rude to students though in a saccharine sweet tone (think Umbridge from HP). Her notes/scribbles are not thorough and half the class she'll babble about "real-life" examples that are inapplicable. Textbook was an absolute bore but didn't help nonetheless. Introductory class, my butt!
Very basic notes and lacks any sort of presence. Reading textbook and doing problems a requirement to do well on midterm and the final.
Lacks presence, poor quality notes and boring class. The material is very useful but it is much easier to learn through the textbook... meaning this course requires a lot of work get a good grade
Before going into this class I was scared to death because of all the stuff I had heard about Anita but if you pay attention in the class she actually knows what she's talking about and gives you alot of hints for the quizzes and this is a 317 course so you have to work hard to get the good grade it's not handed to you
Horrible. Considering you have to write the exam that she makes you're gonna do bad regardless of the prof you take it with. I aced the quizes, 100% on 2 different practise exams, completed all the review in the textbook, assigned questions... got a 53 on the final exam. Gotta ace those exams in order to pass this class! Her exam will kill mark!
Lakra has generic notes that she writes on an overhead. She tends to treat her students like children by barring the use of cell phones or eating in her class, and forcing offenders to answer questions that she knows they don't know the answers to. The class is not difficult and can be learned from the excellent textbook
NOT AS BAD AS WHAT MOST COMMENTS SAY ABOUT HER, that's the first thing I want to say. Her writing is hard to read, but other than that I can't say much negatives about her. Reading the textbook is a bit helpful but you can probably get by without it, I did much better on the things after the midterm and I didn't touch the textbook. Do self tests
SHE IS A GOOD PROF, despite all the other comments, this class is NOT easy, you can't discredit her teaching, the course material is difficult and you really need to take the time to study it to do well, her lectures are clear and concise, her notes are good, she is a good prof and does add a bit of rater interest to the course
Worst teacher I have ever had. Does not understand how to teach. All she does is read stuff off of a projecter and most likely does not even understand the topic herself.
This class requires alot of time and studying into understanding the course material, so regardless which prof you have you need to work hard! She's a good prof, with good notes. She's also clear and concise in her teaching. So go to class, pay attention and study hard, then you'll go good!
Needs to focus more on teaching and less on trying to be everyones mother. Terrible generic notes that are extremely difficult to read, basically your paying to teach yourself from the text.
Of the 14 professors I have had over three semesters, Anita was the second worst. She refused to offer me any sort of help with assignments, was non responsive to emails, and in general was rude and showed a blatant lack of effort and care in teaching. Take it from someone with a 3.74 GPA and an A in ACCT 317, this instructor is AWEFUL.
i read the comments below and thought they were exaggerating.. but they are not. Do not take this course with her
Easily one of the worst professors in Haskayne. Avoid at all costs, even if it means taking the course at 8am.
She is a good instructor, but you need to read the textbook, re-read the notes and do practice questions to do well. Especially in 317.
I went into this class expecting the absolute worst. Although she wasn't as bad as I expected, she does do little things (such as not tell you what specific chapter a quiz will be on) that really become frustrating. I felt that she made this course harder than it needed to be. Was not a fan of her high grading scale either. I'd avoid her.
I didn't think she was that bad at first. Then... when I started studying for quizzes and stuff I realized that I didn't learn a damn thing. She's pretty rude to you unless you suck up to her and get good grades in her class. Will never take a course with her again
Her exams were relatively easy. However, her teaching style was not the best
Just terrible
WORST PROF EVERRRRRRRR
Not awful. My main complaint is that she doesn't give much of an overview of what she is teaching, just grinds through the details without telling you why. Although that is common. Otherwise, she talks down to her students offensively, not much fun.
Manages to make the simplest topics difficult. I always left class more confused than when I walked in. Wastes class time over-explaining simple topics and just rewords textbook information for difficult topics. Easiest way to do well is stay home and read the textbook.
IF YOU LIKE LEARNING EVERYTHING BY YOURSELF YOU CAN TAKE A CLASS WITH ANITA, she is not that bad as people say she is, she tries to be funny, but is not at all. I fall asleep in her lectures, however she is nice with you talk to her. She does not explain very well. you kinda have to learn everything from the textbook
I didn't think she was too bad and thought her midterm, final, and all her quizzes were easy. If you take good notes you should be fine in this class.
Anita is not the greatest prof I've ever had, but she is far from the worst. Kids need to study hard for this course. It's kinda tough. Very nice, and always available to help students with questions.
anita is so horrible but basically the only option for a teacher for 317 and 323. If you can avoid having her as a prof DO IT. The content is fairly hard in it's own right, but with poor instruction and unorganized notes it's even harder.don't understand why she is still teaching at u of c after so many horrible reviews
Anita is really not that bad of a prof, she is a decent prof and is really nice. Regardless of who your prof is for either ACCT 317 or 323 you're going to have to study hard and do some work on your own.
Do not take it with her if you can but as mentioned below she is one of your only options. Study hard because you won't get much out of lectures. You write down numbers from her extremely disorganized notes which she also explains poorly. All I can say is good luck to you.
Words can't describe my hatred towards Lakra as a prof. She is HORRIBLE. She's disorganized and scattered and her notes are an absolute mess. It's terribly difficult to understand what she's trying to teach and she basically just pulls numbers from no where and expects the class to be able to follow along with her. AVOID HER.
Brutal. So, so brutal. I stopped going to class after the midterm because I would end up more confused than informed. I essentially taught myself the material and barely passed. Avoid her, even if you have to take an 8AM class. Good luck if she's the only option as she was for me..
She's not as bad as people say she is. Her notes are good, but she can be confusing at times. However i do not like her grading scale, got 80% and ended up with a B.
I have had Lakra for two accounting classes so far and I haven't minded her. I got A's in both classes and learned a lot. I didn't think she was a bad prof, but I've never had a different accounting prof so I don't have anyone to compare to. From what people tell me, other profs make it easier.
Anita's lectures are extremely organized. She'll leave you with some relatively decent notes. She is not amazing or anything. Difficult course with difficult tests. Honestly, might be more the subject matter than the prof as to why I didn't do spectacularly.
Her notes are an absolute mess and if you don't understand her writing, good luck asking whoever's next to you because having absolute silence in her class is more important than distracting her students by POINTING OUT THE DISTRACTIONS!!
She seems like a really nice person and that she genuinely wants her students to do well not only in this class but in life. The quizzes throughout the year are so easy, but do not be fooled, the midterm is brutal! She's very approachable and encourages students to come to her office hours or set up a meeting for extra help.
Brutal. I attended every lecture and still had to teach myself everything from the textbook. She in no way prepares you for the midterm or final either. Avoid this prof if possible.
Anita, what I can I say about her. She is a very nice lady, but she does not know how to teach or answer questions. You have to teach the entire course to yourself. That is exactly what I did, the only chapter worth going to her lecture is chapter 6. Everything else is on your own!
She is not as bad as everyone says, but I would not take this class if you can not teach yourself. She tries her best to help, but makes no sense.. at all. I would still go to the lectures, her notes are good but make sure you do ALL the textbook questions.
Everyone should stop bashing Anita. Its a hard course but she comes prepared to help cover as much as she can in class. reading the text is mandatory, but if you do as well as doing the practice questions you will do well in the class. If you are confused go to Anita's office hours and she is happy to help clarify concepts. You get what you out in!
Anita provides ample opportunity for understanding of the content. This is not an easy class as it is heavy in content. She outlines all expectations and is very clear in her presentation and lectures and is also enthusiastic. This class requires work. Anita is a great tool for success in this class. I will follow her through my accounting degree
Anita presents notes in a way that don't make sense. She just writes down whatever pops into her head in chicken scratch writing. It is very hard to learn from what she does in class- it is better to use the textbook and powerpoint slides.
Her lecture notes are not very good and it is very hard to copy down because of her messy writing. If you talk in her class, she'll just nag at you. It's better to use a textbook and do the practice yourself. Avoid her!
Honestly I understood 10% of what she was talking about. I had to use textbook all the time to study for this class. Obviously she knows everything but her lectures just don't make sense. Weird voices, unidentifiable notes... It just felt weird to have class with her. Avoid her unless she's your only choice. (She's a nice person, but as a prof eh)
Lots of people don't like her because they think her accounting class is too hard and her exams are challenging. Although this is partially true, it is very possible to get a good grade in the course if you practice and read the textbook before class, a strategy that is proven for any course.
One thing i didnt like about this prof is that she had her favorites. also, she wasnt very clear when she taught the material and the midterm was tough. self-teaching is a necessity! not recommended for a first year student
She knows her material extremely well. Her classes can be a bit dull sometimes, but that could hold true for any ACCT course. I find she gives great notes. You have to study hard and read the textbook, but it's nowhere near impossible to do really well in her class.
TERRIBLE DO NOT TAKE ACCT WITH HER
She is a bad prof. She means well, but she is vague and notes are sloppy. She doesn't really explain anything at all.
really bad prof. never take any accounting courses with her.
All im going to say is AVOID
taking acct again after taking it with her last year- and so is more than half of my classmates. PLEASE AVOID unless you want to waste you money and time. She scares you on the first day and expects too much extra work outside of class. So if you wanna pass with a good grade, take it with someone else. acct is not hard, Anita MAKES it hard.
While there is definitely room for improvement in Anita's writing, her notes will make sense if you keep up with the class by reading the textbook. Her quizzes are very doable if you study for them and both her midterm and final are very fair. There were no surprises or blind siding in her class.
I would avoid Anita, she is not very clear and tells THE worst stories ever.
Anita is a nice prof but she is not very clear.. You definitely need to use the textbook to learn. The class is not as hard as it seems to be, but you need to study to get A's.
One of the worst profs. She said she makes the midterm before Halloween each year so no one can party for the past 12 years, including herself, but she showed up in costume on Halloween this year. Maybe she helps people in office hours, but she refuses to answer long questions after class because she said she has another class to teach in 15 mins
She's not as bad as everyone is saying. If you aren't willing to put in the time, this course would be hard with any prof. Anita knows the material extremely well and gives good notes. If you read the text and practice on your own, you will have no problem getting a good grade.
Anita is a very nice professor and tells funny stories. Quizzes are relatively easy if you study and go to class. Midterm was very difficult though, and Anita does not explain concepts well at all. The midterm was also at 9 am the day after Halloween.
Anita was not the best professor, but she is hardly terrible. She really tries to help students and is happy to explain concepts in a different manner if you need it. Textbook is definitely necessary - if you read it and do practice questions, you will be just fine! I would take a class with her again.
I thought she was sweet and very caring of her students. I found the course easy. Only thing I hate is how she stops class to work in groups on problems. I did the homework already, don't waste 10 minutes my class time doing something in a group that you could teach in 2 and I could practice at home.
All around bad prof, wastes time on non-relevant topics. Very bad with time management as she gives the class far too long to do simple questions. Incredibly irritable, as well as irritating. Avoid.
She is absolutely horrible! Worst accounting prof at u of c
I don't know why Anita gets so much hate. She knows her material backwards and forwards and offers help consistently and often. Her powerpoints are kind of vague but in conjunction with the textbook there's no lack of information. She makes it very clear what will be tested and she's the course coordinator, so you can't get more accurate info!
Makes simple concepts seem very confusing. Midterms are written response and multiple choice. Not extremely helpful when it comes to answering questions. Better off going to tutorials. Students are not allowed to take notes when reviewing quizzes. This makes it hard to learn from mistakes. Needs to speak up as it can be hard to hear her.
I dont understand all the hate she gets, If you pay attentions you will do fine. She's just a sweet lady
She's good!
probably slightly below average u can learn via textbook her lectures can be really good and helpful but also really boring but shes pretty hot so it balances out. pretty solid overall you can get help and learn but can self learn its not a hard class
Anita is nice and helpful when you ask questions, but my learning style just didn't align with her teaching style. The textbook had a lot of typos and errors. The course needs a lot of improvements. Just didn't enjoy this course at all.
AVOID
Prepare to teach yourself this course.
If you have the right attitude and attend her classes, you will love it. She is very kind and understands students. If you give her a chance , you won't regret it. Don't believe what other people say about her. Make sure you participate in class and you'll be on her good side, which will help you a lot if you need help. Attendance is a MUST.
Her attitude is so annoying, she treats her students like she is teaching kindergarten. Also spends so much time complaining in general. Avoid if possible.
Great for feedback and helpful when you need to talk to her.
Avoid if possible.
One of my least favourite profs ever
ACCT 323 has nothing to do with 217 if you're worried about that. Anita goes through the whole course, but obviously like any other course you need to put in the work and practice on your own time. If you do the textbook questions you'll be fine. She's not a bad prof, but she's not gonna teach you the whole course when you sit back and relax.
Anita is a good prof. Tests and exams are fairly easy. She does teach like she's talking to a first grade class which can get annoying.
She's an outgoing and energetic prof, but the lectures are dry with pointless activities. If you keep up to reading and practice this course can be taken without attending class.
Anita is not as bad as everyone says. If you just do the self tests in 323 along with some textbook reading if you don't understand any of the concepts you will be fine. The quizzes are very similar to self tests so make sure you know the self tests well.
I honestly don't know why she has a bad rating on here. Anita was very clear and the course was not as bad as i had expected at all. She is super nice and friendly and will answer any questions you have
Confusing as hell, you will teach yourself this course. She is a real nice person though.
Lectures may be boring but examples in class be useful for the midterm. But to be fair the class is easy you can skip and study from the textbook and you should be fine. Do the practice questions and should be good.
I don't understand why Anita has such poor reviews. She tells you exactly how to succeed in the class, and if you follow what she tells you to do, there's no reason why you should do bad. She's always willing to help out. Her class examples are very helpful and as long as you do the text book questions/self tests, you should do well!
Treats you like a first grader
Anita is a good professor. She really makes herself available to students if they need help. She is clear when teaching and doing examples. The only bad thing about her is that she goes a little slow when doing examples, so it gets really boring really fast if you are quick at learning accounting.
She could be a really good professor, if she was teaching junior high and not university. She treats everyone like they are way younger than they actually are, and she goes off topic a lot. Her examples are very unclear and she beats around the bush, over complicating even the simplest of concepts. However she is a very nice person, not a good prof
Examples in class are not very helpful. She also wastes a lot of class time talking about things that are completely unrelated to accounting and is extremely condescending when you go to her for help. Would not recommend.
was not a fan of her. dropped the class due to her unclear teaching methods and thus I fell behind as I had to often self-teach with difficulty. nice at times but can be very condescending to her students. have to retake the class, unfortunately she monopolizes the entire ACCT 323 course. UGH
Some people think Anita treats her students like children which is a valid observation but honestly I just think that's how he is don't take it personally. She's a pretty good instructor who cares about her students success.
Anita is a great prof who cares about her students. She takes as much time as you need to explain concepts and is great at answering questions. Her tests are very fair and there is nothing unexpected. You will get a good mark if you study and keep up with your work. Much easier than 217!
Anita is a kind lady but lacks organization and the ability to present the course in a clear manner. Her powerpoints are vague and extremely unclear. You will need to teach the course to yourself and utilize the textbook, so there honestly is no value in going to class.
In my entire university Career i have had very professors. Anita is the worst one. She cannot teach, gives no fair advice and her lectures are some of the most boring classes ive ever been too. Get ready to self educate yourself as she will do little of that.
You will end up teaching yourself everything before exams. Her examples in class are confusing and not helpful at all. Does not tell the class about review package, which is extremely helpful. Avoid at all costs.
I came into Acct 323 with a fresh and positive mindset despite the negative experience with her teaching style in Acct 317. However, I am deeply disappointed as she clearly has not changed a bit since the last time I had her. She continues to have an entitled attitude and lacks respect for students.
Seriously so bad, she cannot teach, the course is an absolute nightmare if you take it with her. Could definitely be an easy course with a better instructor. Be prepared to read the textbook and teach the entire course to yourself. Going to class is completely pointless as her examples and slides are vague and not at all helpful.
She is a nice person and seems to care about her students, however, she is very monotone and incredibly difficult to learn from. She doesn't write many things down so not a good prof for non-auditory learners. Read the textbook and make notes and you should do fine.
Anita says she's more of a coach than a teacher. She is accessible outside of class. Lectures are quite dry, sometimes giving examples or letting the class work on examples, most of the time just explaining her own slides. Most people don't bother coming to class. Tests didn't cover all the chapters fairly - 1 out of 6 chapters would be 40% of test
She speaks so fast and feels like a RAP GODDNESS. No phones allowed. Make stupid games for reviewing.
She's okay. If you get the gist of accounting then she's an alright professor, otherwise the consensus is that she's not good. Her handouts are super helpful but she can't teach verbally.
Her handouts and D2L review material are excellent, but don't expect much of the professor herself.
She is a very nice person but not that good of a professor. Going to class won't help, just read the textbook and do the self-tests and you should be fine. Make sure to study for the quizzes as they are worth quite a bit. Overall, the course isn't that difficult but be ready to teach yourself the entire course.
One thing most people dont realize is that she expects her students to know the material before coming to class and that is why so many people complain about her confusing lectures. Yes she may not be the funniest, and she sometimes lectures slowly but she provides you with everything you need to be successful in this class.
Anita is very kind, I enjoyed her class. The material is pretty easy if you practice a lot. Does not give out homework, however you will have lots of quizzes which i found helpful because it kept me on track with the material.
I don't know why she has negative reviews. She was always so willing to help. When I went to her for help I always left understanding everything. Honestly just by reading the book you should be fine though. The class in general is very doable
Overcomplicates the simplest concepts of this course, her classes didn't add any value to me. If you need to enforce a rule about cellphones/laptops it should tell you how difficult your lectures are to listen to, you don't see engaging profs like Darrin having the same rules. Just avoid. Bright side is you can easily teach this course to yourself
You could probably understand her if you recorded the class and played it 1.5 times slower, too bad you can't. Her powerpoints are vague to force you to go to class. Just read the textbook and do the self-tests.
She is really nice and kind as a person. Very "intense" regarding phones. Easily accessible outside of class/helps in those situations well. On the other hand, her lectures are brutal. Simple concepts can be extremely overcomplicated and she rips through harder concepts. Overall, she talks way too fast to keep up and does things at her own pace.
ACCT 323 itself is a pretty straight forward class. While Anita spends a lot of time talking about personal experiences and mothering the class, she does a good job at teaching precisely what's on the tests. Do the Self-Tests and practice exams and you'll be good to go.
Anita is a great person, and she really enjoys talking to her students. However, her lectures are really dry. I'd suggest taking the course with her to learn about interesting opportunities and getting some good advice but using the internet or going to other profs lectures to learn the material. Overall decent, really nice, but not the best prof.
Anita teaches in a very strange way and talks too fast. When doing examples instead of going over it with the entire class she goes around the classroom asking if individuals "understand the idea" and then moves on to the next one. She isn't considerate of her students because she doesn't recognize that there are different types of learners.
Anita is one of my fav profs this semester. Her explanations were so much simpler than Darrin's whose class I took for 217. It honestly depends on the person and how they learn. Anita was interesting because her examples were easy to follow and she went into depth with the theory. Her quizzes are fairly easy but exams are tough.
Lakra was probably one of the most useless profs I have ever had. Her "slides" are literally barebones, and going to class does not help at all either as she skims through concepts. Be prepared to teach the entire course to yourself from the textbook. Quizzes were brutally hard as well, so study hard for them if you want to do well.
I currently have Lakra as my prof , and its horrible. She does not provide any support in her slides/notes and when you attend lecture its extremely rushed as she completely skips through explanations not providing any assurance to her students. We however always finish class 15-30mins early for her to discuss irrelevant topics. WORST PROF EVER!
Honestly so horrible I'm crying that I have to take this class with her (she teaches pretty much all the sections). Extremely unclear and not even sure why she's a prof. I wonder if she's ever even tried to improve her teaching style because it seems that it has been years with no change in her material. Get out while you can, seriously
I was skeptical going in, but Anita instantly changed that. She is definitely one of my favourite, if not THE favourite, prof I've had at UofC thus far. She knows the content inside and out and teaches in a way that is easy to understand even if accounting isn't your thing. HIGHLY recommend her.
Anita has to be one of the most boring profs I have ever had. The material was fairly easy but she simply sits up at the front of the class with no animation in her voice or her body language and writes down answers to problems. The textbook has more flavour than her, and it is just as easy to learn from.
I would do pre readings and have a little bit of an understanding and then I went to class and would be completely lost. I stopped going to class and went through textbook questions and I got an A on the first midterm. Would suggest not going to class and just reading and doing work questions in text book.
Feels like she is telling a lullaby in class instead of teaching. Use textbook to get through the class, she knows the material but can't teach it properly. Her class is tough because of her.
She is a really nice person, but her teaching isn't too great. Her notes are very sparse, and often provide no real learning value. She rushes through teaching only so she can tell useless stories at the end of class instead of going into more detail with the material itself. Your best bet is to self-study a lot from the textbook.
The course itself was easy enough and Anita is a nice person but as a prof... She goes through lectures so fast and then spends 10mins telling useless stories at the end of lectures. I basically taught myself the course from reading the textbook. The self-tests are very helpful though. MC quizzes every other week out of 6.
She is nice and the course is easy.
She tells you to print out her powerpoint for the class but it is a compete waste of paper and has nothing but the bare bare minimum of them. Talks about a lot of random things during class that are quite irrelevant. Knows the material quite well and seems to think its super easy for everyone to learn which is not necessary true.
Well, I think she needs to change her teaching style and writing. She has unclear writing that often makes people confused. Also, she taught the lesson pretty fast and she supposed it was easy for everyone. I learnt more from the textbook and youtube. Be prepared that if she saw you was using cell phone, you could be asked to meet her after class!
simply awful... I loved accounting and was really excited for this class, but she has made me dread it and doubt what I want to do with my future. considering dropping the course because she teaches so poorly and I don't have enough time to teach myself
Horrible prof. Incredibly disorganized, horrible slide decks, and very difficult to follow. Stay the hell home and take your own notes because this class is a total joke for content. Anita makes students worse at accounting.
Anita is super nice, she always talks with me at the beginning of classes and is very caring. I feel like her power points could contain more content as you will have to teach yourself a good chunk of this class, albeit most uni courses. She knows her stuff so I believe she can improve her lectures.
Anita is a very nice person, she really does care about your grades and tries her best to help you do well. I do think she over exaggerates how easy things are which results her just quickly skimming through material with a lot of people not following what she is doing. Shes okay, but assumes since one student understands, everyone does!
Its an easy class just do the self tests and chapter review questions. Anita is an okay prof she gives u 2% bonus on final if you dont text or distract others in class. I didn't go to many classes and found reading the textbook and doings self tests were a better use of the time
Great class to sleep in!! Just read textbook and do the self tests on your own. Going to tutorial is actually really helpful and helped me more than her lectures.
Lectures arent mandatory. Anita gives some practice problems that you work on by yourself during class but just doing textbook work will be sufficient. Weekly quizzes are pretty challenging.
Nice lady, bad prof. She knows what she is talking about but does not know how to teach at all. Elliptical forecast reference is really dumb, i learnt more when i stopped going to lectures and used that time to read the textbook. You are basically on your own for this course, do the self tests, read the textbook and hope for the best.
She cares about her student but she talks a lot about unnecessary stories that are completely unrelated to accounting. She talks pretty fast especially during review assuming you retained all the information.
Only prof who teaches 323 so you're basically screwed. She talks like an elementary school teacher and goes so slow. Stopped going to class and taught myself from the textbook. 4 quizzes, each worth 6 marks and each mark is worth 1% of your final grade. Midterm and final worth the same. She gives you extra 2% if you don't use your phone in class.
One of the worst profs Ive ever had. She likes to talk about random things in the middle of lecture which wastes time. She hypes up the 2% bonus on the Final Exam like its this huge boost (it just means you can get 1 more question wrong). I did not have a choice because she was the only one teaching, but I do not recommend her to anyone.
There is no surprise that Anita has one of the most reviews in Haskayne, yet one of the LOWEST reviews. I can't say anything that hasn't been said already about Anita. If you have her, you will do well if you know how to self-learn. Class isn't super hard, she makes it hard. (Final is easier than midterm, do not be discouraged) Good luck.
The textbook will be your savior for this whole course!!! If you do the textbook questions you will be fine. Do not depend on only going to lectures for the material because she is slow and doesn't explain things too well.
Nightmare. Brutal. My god. Anita is a species of her own. She takes an easy, fun, and beneficial class and somehow makes it terrible. Don't go to class. Learn from textbook/youtube. Her marking keys are ridiculous. She is inconsistent. She marks based on how it's progressively going, some students will get certain marks and others wont. Avoid. Pls.
Honestly, the people on here don't give Anita the credit she deserves. While yes, she can get confusing at times, she truly cares about her students and puts full effort into teaching the class. Her excitement and her engagement with the material is great, and she provides you with opportunities to improve. As well, the stuff she says means a lot.
Anita is a terrible professor who has no idea how to teach. She knows course material well but cannot effectively convey concepts to students. She talks non-stop and her examples are terrible also talks about random stuff that doesn't matter. Overall terrible teacher and wish someone else taught the class.
Anita understands the course well but is a horrible teacher. She constantly does examples and just assumes the students are now able to successfully do so as well. Her slides are very unorganized and hard to follow (important concepts aren't noted, and her slides seem to barely cover the amount of information in the chapter. A horrible experience
First quiz, went to every class and listened, failed it. Second quiz, didn't go to a single class and just read the textbook, doubled my grade (and passed). Think that's all you need to know
In my university career I have done many stupid things, but of those stupid things, going to Anita's lectures is ranked highest. Quite possibly the best way to waste your time and learn absolutely nothing. I would rather listen to someone scratch their nails on a chalkboard than listen to Anita talk about nonsense. Don't go to lecture
She's not the best professor but definitely not the worst i've had. The slides are pretty bad but she maybe does 1-2 examples in class per unit. The textbook has a lot of things you don't need to know while the slides aren't enough so it's a bit hard finding what is expected.. I found youtube to be my best resource
She is one of the nicest profs I have had in 4 years, but she is not a great teacher. I barely went to class because I physically could not sit through lectures. Fell asleep almost every time. Basically taught the entire course to myself. Like I said, extremely nice and approachable, just difficult to learn.
Nice person but horrible teacher and even worse slide decks. Skips a lot of material, and in-class notes are very messy. If you want to do good you have to teach yourself A LOT. She really needs to reconsider her teaching style and make her slides better. Makes the course much more complicated than it should
Anita is hands down the worst professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking a class with. Her lectures consist of her sitting on a table wearing a short skirt and passive aggressively asking people why they don't understand her terrible way of explaining things. She doesn't realize that not everyone is a chartered accountant like her.
She makes this class so much harder than it really is. Slides are so vague it forces you to go to class. I found myself going to youtube to clear up everything she teaches. She also does the bare minimum and finishes early every class to tell stories..
Went to lectures for the first quiz and failed it, then stopped going and did way better on every test from teaching myself and watching youtube videos. The content is extremely straightforward, but her old school way of teaching is unclear, messy, and wierdly paced. She would focus on stuff that was really easy, but gloss over harder stuff.
Anita is really sweet and really cares about her student's success and is happy to help you if you're stuck. The way she teaches the content is a little confusing at times and not as comprehensive as the textbook. I'd honestly just bank on the textbook to teach you, but class is great for review and help if you need it.
Doesn't get the credit that she deserves. If you go to class and do the examples and go through the practice questions or "self tests" that she gives you and re read her slides you will do more than fine. The people that i saw not doing well in the class only did the self tests the day before the quiz. Put in the time with practice you'l succeed.
Anita was one of the worst profs that I've had at the University of Calgary. She talks to her students like they're almost incompetent and when students ask questions, she gives an overly complicated non-answer that makes everyone more confused than before. Her lecture notes are practically useless, as well as going to class.
Anita is not accommodating to different learning styles. She does not allow pictures of any kind in class, will dock you marks for being on your phone, and teaches off an overhead projector like it's the 90s again. You have to attend class as she doesn't post lecture notes/slides online but her strict class structure will make you not want to go.
At first, I had no idea why Anita was getting torn apart in her ratings. She seemed very sweet and gave decent lectures. Since everything has gone online from COVID, her weaknesses as a prof really shine through. Anita is lazy and rude. She is unprofessional in her emails and straight up disrespectful. Avoid this prof at all costs!
The lack of professionalism within Anita's multiple ranting emails baffles me. How can the university let a prof like this teach? She emails the class multiple times a day telling us to stop complaining and be thankful that her HORRID lectures aren't worse. I cannot understate how HORRIBLE this prof is. Without a doubt, the worst prof I've ever had
Anita is hands down the worst prof in Haskayne. Her lectures are super unorganized and very useless. Her writing is illegible, and she still uses an old school manual projector. The COVID pandemic has illustrated how unprofessional and rude she really is. If someone could teach her how to turn off caps lock while writing emails that would be great!
Anita is not a good prof in terms of this course. Her lectures are relatively useless and you will do better if you read the textbook and do the questions assigned. Her lectures are unorganized and she uses a projector from the '90s to teach. She will dock you 1% if you go on your phone or are not on the PowerPoint slides in class if she sees you.
In my 4 years of uni, Anita is one of the worst profs I have ever had. Her lectures and slides are terrible, unorganized, and so difficult to concentrate in. She is also very rude and condescending in her emails and in person too. She is unhelpful and pretends to act like she cares for her students. Haskayne needs to get a new prof for ACCT 323.
Extremely rude, and disorganized. Sends multiple unclear emails a day, and never posts relevant things to d2l, or will do so at the last minute. The quality of her online videos are terrible, as you can barely hear her and the screen is extremely blurry. If you read the textbook and do the practice tests you will do well, but she is not helpful.
Anita is not a good professor. Seems to care about her students but is not reflected in her efforts to help her students as she does not provide extra assistance to those that need it. PowerPoints are horribly created and lack lots of information. Very unclear when she speaks. Her course outline is graded on only exams and heavily weighted. Avoid.
Did not make herself available for student questions. We were not allowed to email her directly. Tutorials were given over Skype. She was not tech savy which made things difficult for her. TAs didn't fully know the course content and often couldn't answer questions. Online lectures were blurry making them very difficult to follow.
Anita is sweet but her online lectures are okay-ish but her examples are dry and she was vague in explaining some hard topics. Her slides are useless, so use the publisher's slides. YouTube and the book are your saviours. But she was good with uploading and giving back results quickly.
Worst Teacher of the University of Calgary. She publishes soundless videos instead of taking an online class on zoom. Explain nothing in those videos. All I could see is her face rather than slides or notes. She also mentioned that it is illegal to download videos or slides from the portal. God, please save UofC from her. Amen
Professor Lakra is definitely not meant for online classes. The worst thing is that she is not willing to communicate unless for emergencies, and only posts recorded lectures. She is not tech-savvy at all. Her videos are soundless and her face covers most of the screen space instead of slides. I would not recommend her for online classes.
Her lecture videos are terrible quality and make understanding relatively easy concepts way more difficult. On top of that, she refuses to answer any emails unless they are "an emergency", even though this is an online course and we don't always have the availability to attend office hours. Tutorials, TAs, and the textbook will be your best friend!
Straight up reused all of her lectures from spring classes. Refuses to answer emails and questions unless they're an emergency. I honestly would give her an N/A rating if I could, because she didn't teach me nor my classmates anything. Just awful, and for all the wrong reasons.
All her lectures were prerecorded which was fine except the camera quality was terrible. She would show her handwritten notes, and you wouldnt even be able to read what it said. Just read the textbook, and watch YouTube videos instead and you will be fine.
One of my worst profs ever and I'm in my third year. This is a completely self-taught course as there are no lectures and the prerecorded lectures are poorly organized. Still, no idea what she does as she will tell u to only email her if it's urgent or an emergency and directs you to only speak with TAs. Didn't even create new videos this semester.
This class was quite difficult to get through. Very much self-taught via the textbook. She did post videos to supplement the material, but they were poorly filmed and hard to understand due to occasional audio issues. The course consisted of four exams and one assignment.
I met with Anita once over zoom and she's a nice person, but some people are just not meant to teach. Her videos were practically useless and I had to learn everything on my own through reading the textbook. This course was really dry and difficult to complete. It's the reason I am no longer concentrating in accounting.
Dont know where to start. The assignment was easy at least, but Lakra did not teach at all. Everything I learned was from publisher slides and textbook. I spent 700 on what feels like nothing. The practice tests and real tests had different methods of calculation, so if you got the right answer on the self test, it might be wrong on the real test.
Anita did not teach at all since they were pre-recorded videos. I took this class in fall 2020 and she reused her videos from spring 2020 and the quality was terrible. I taught myself everything with the textbook. She's pretty useless but the course itself was easy. (1 easy assignment, 4 exams)
Anita is a very kind soul and is very quick to respond to emails or issues but is not helpful for teaching the course. I took this class online and it was a mess. You need to teach yourself from the textbook. Her lectures online were hard to hear and read. She does have a few helpful resource but prepare to do this class independently.
took it in fall 2020. everyone i know exclusively used the textbook, but as someone who does not learn well from a textbook, i found her prerecorded lectures to be pretty good. i didnt love the format of them-most of the content is from what she says rather than whats on the slides. the info she SAYS in her videos make the tests much easier.
Took ACCT 323 in fall 2020 (online). Her video recordings were hard to follow along and doesn't prepare you for her tests. She's a sweet and caring prof, but isn't that good at teaching. Class was easy for me since I learnt from watching YouTube videos instead. I recommend doing her self-tests as practice since it prepares you for her tests
It's disappointing that Profs like this exist and think its okay to lazily teach a class with poor quality pre-recorded powerpoints and think it does the content justice. She seems like a very nice person, but didn't bother to teach the class. The self tests and tutorials are helpful, but this is solely textbook based.
I havent seen a more disorganized prof than Anita, she seems like a nice person. But the class is a hot mess of broken powerpoints, incomplete slides/notes, and little outside help. The class is literally self taught and textbook only. Can't believe I'm paying thousands of dollars for a class I taught myself from a careless prof.
I like her, the ratings here are quite mean to her. She is so responsive on email and she's such a sweet prof. I didn't do the best in the course, but shes a nice person. Her lecs arent the best, just use YouTube. She isn't the worst prof neither the best, but shes a good one, shes caring and nice and VERY VERY approachable. Always responded positi
She seems like a sweet person who wants to connect with her students. The class was taught through her PowerPoints which did a good enough job summarizing content. Could she have been more organized? Yes, but the content she has is enough to do well in this course. Exams weren't tough at all, but be prepared to be mostly self-taught.
She teaches the material fine, but she basically goes over her powerpoint and only goes through a few examples. You really need the textbook in her class to do well. It is a lot of self study.
Does not reply to emails courteously, expects students to make up for her shortcomings, especially during online teaching. Quizzes were worded very strangely as well.
Should have taken this course in the fall when it was offered with other instructors... wow... the support for online learning is just not there at all
The reviews on Anita are harsh. She provides plenty of resources to solidify your understanding which is more than many other accounting professors. She cares about her students beyond the scope of the class. However, if the class is online take it with someone else because the online lectures are not the best.
Anita's lectures are not helpful at all. She makes things more confusing than they need to be. You will be better of learning from YouTube and doing the self tests. If you struggle with accounting, I would definitely pick a different professor.
Pro - Anita is nice. Cons - Online platform was AWFUL. I don't think she understands how to use technology. AT ALL. In person was not better. I didn't think she could be as confusing in person. Her materials are from 1990 (don't buy the textbook unless you are going to use to to teach yourself). MARK MELDRUM should get my tuition.
Do not take this class online. In person, Anita is kind, caring, and provides many resources, helpful examples, and hints to assist with the tests. Online was a disaster, which is why her reviews are so harsh.
Anita is very caring and wants students to succeed, she has some trouble with technology but makes it up with her enthusiasm and good lectures.
Her lectures are a complete waste of time. She is living in past as she explicitly uses paper handouts. She conducts her class like a prison. Late entrants are scolded, and the use of a mobile phone is strictly forbidden. Nothing about this class or the lecturer is normal. Steer clear!
I defenitely would not recommend taking any of Anita's classes. She makes students pay for her downfalls and often just talks about herself and irrelevant stories. Think she would be more suited to teaching a creche.
Very nice woman who obviously cares about students BUT cannot teach at all. She talks so quietly and slowly in class I have trouble staying awake. Lots of time wasted doing group, in-class activities where she walks around for 10 minutes giving no useful suggestions. Tons of time wasted during class talking about her personal stories-stay clear!!
Please do this course with another professor if you can or otherwise don't take it! The lectures are really boring and the course is self study only. Save yourself!
Knows her stuff BUT SHE'S NOT MEANT TO BE A TEACHER BY ANY MEANS. Super unorganized. Beyond useless lectures. Absolutely a waste of time. Plus, you go to her with a question, and i bet all my money on you not getting a proper help or answer. You are better off teaching yourself than taking any course with Anita. Stay clear for your own sake!
The ratings on this prof are all true. There is no point in going to lectures because you'll end up needing to teach it to yourself anyways. Makes you bring paper handouts to every class and goes on and on about personal stories. Seems like a nice but definitely not good at teaching.
Attending lectures will NOT prepare you nearly enough for quizzes/tests. Difficult to understand what will be tested as partial textbook chapters are covered. Ppt slides greatly oversimplify material. Tends to gloss over rather difficult topics in class and is presumptuous with students prerequisite knowledge. Uses messy handy written notes.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS! She is extremely rude and unprofessional when talking to students during her office hour. She makes you feel like nothing and tries to underestimate your abilities as much as she can if you failed to understand a single step in her messy calculations. Better save your life and stay away from her lectures.
Crazy how I can go into lecture thinking I have a handle on the information and leave class with less knowledge than I went in with. Actually baffled how bad she is at teaching information to students.
Awful Prof. Threatened to sue a student for taking a photo of her powerpoint slides.Didn't teach well and the powerpoint she read of was super bare. Also left for a month because she had "covid" and we got a random email one day saying we were being handed off to another prof and weren't taught two of the chapters.
Avoid this prof immediately
I have taken this class twice with Anita and both times were awful. Her powerpoints were terrible. Also was weird with students taking pictures of the slides and embarrassed them in front of the class. She left for a month and then disappeared. Still don't have my grade back for this class even though it is now the start of the new semester.
Not respectful of student's time or circumstances. Needs to be the centre of attention at all time. No fun or talking allowed in class. Will tell you 45 minute long stories about her failed tennis career, despite no one caring or asking. Would rather be hit by a Mack truck then take this prof.
So she likes to get mad at students for small things. If she was not so afraid of covid she would spit on you but instead she metaphorically spits on you with words. Also like most profs she has an ego and likes to name drop people she knew that she thought were attractive but best believe the only balls she smacking are ones on the tennis court.
One of the worst profs I have encountered never mind the worst I have had can not get any more horrible than this. Rude unhelpful and does not respect the students she teaches. Overall I do not recommend and hope that no one else encounters this experience. This should be 0/5 if it was allowed.
never again, dont take this if you value your life
Many ways to get your mark up is what is saving me. Lakra tries her best and I feel like if you attend ALL her classes you can understand the material. As soon as you skip one you're screwed and have to rely on the textbook because her slides are extremely poorly made. Overall course content is not horrible, just need to put time into it.
Anita has an issue with electronic devices so she uses some kind of archaic overhead projector but then gets nauseous. She's a terrible instructor in person or online-gets angry and belittles students. Retiring professors have actually suggested taking this class at Athabasca University online (she's that bad). No one cares in the department.
One of the hardest classes I have taken. Her lectures made no sense and you could barely hear her through the three masks she would wear. I stopped attending class a month in and had better luck teaching myself using the textbook. A nice lady but a terrible teacher.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
One of the worst professors at U of C. Wastes class time with stories instead of covering the material. Refuses to write on the board due to bad handwriting and rushes through key points too quickly for note-taking. It's a disgrace to have such a professor at this institution.
This prof yaps so much. Someone help me please. Im dying
You are not allowed to use your phone or take pictures of ANYTHING because of copyright infringement despite every other professors being cool with it. Rambles on about irrelevant stuff for extended periods of time. Uses so much paper. Apparently around half the class failed the course/did not achieve C- so repeats are expected.
I think she can come off as rude at times. The phone thing is true, but she told us that first class. She is honest about the exams being harder and that we should only focus on the self-tests. I personally just think ACCT is rough, and as a non-accounting major, I struggled. But I thought she tried, and the examples in class were helpful.
Better take it during Spring with Anita, cuz tests will be easier than Fall or Winter normally. In class examples are helpful, self-tests are your god for the tests. Anita is good lady, but a bad lecturer.
Anita just isn't meant to be a lecturer. Her notes, despite now being digital, are difficult to understand and she talks about her own personal life for about a third of the lecture. She's real nice and the self-tests and paper handouts she gives out are helpful for studying but the exams are too hard compared to the class material.
Prepare to be challenged in this class. While the prof can come off as strict, the material is tough, and attendance is mandatory. Use unstuckstudy AI, textbooks, and self-tests to stay on top of things. If you put in the work, you'll get through it.
She yaps about anything but accounting. Struggled hard in this class. Keep your head up guys...
Very unprofessional and although in the field for over a decade is rather inexperienced when it comes to teaching. She wastes class time sharing unrelated anecdotes and gets hostile if you take a photo of the board or go on your phone, 0/10 would not recommend. Take any other professor, stay safe.
She does not know how to teach. Going from my 217 teachers to her was one of the worst downgrades ever. She low-key reminds me of Umbridge from Harry Potter smh
One of the worse accounting profs you can have. She is insufferable and annoying to listen to, along with this she will ramble on about her own life rather then actually teach.
So terrible. Yaps the whole class and cannot teach to save her life. Never ever take a class with her as prof.
This is my second rating that I am giving to this prof because its that bad. She is undoubtably the worst professor in the history of post-secondary schooling. Wouldnt take her again even if it saved a school of orphans from a burning building. Do not take!
Horrible professor. Cannot teach to save her life. She definitely peaked in her tennis career. Responds to questions in a rude and demeaning tone. Get ready to teach everything yourself because her way of "teaching" is backwards. she should take notes from Noreen.
awful. awful
bro how are you a lecturer in Haskayne how
worst professor in the history of teaching. She doesn't explain anything and goes through the slides so fast and doesn't allow you to take pictures because it's her "intellectual property." Yesterday she spent an hour talking about her "tooth injury" for the FOURTH TIME
it's mind boggling how bad she is
someone get her fired.
Hey guys. At this point I cannot stand the sound of this wonderful persons voice. She is one of the greatest professors I have ever had in my life... NOT! Avoid taking a class taught by her or else hell week will be every week.
There once was a prof quite aloof, whose lessons would vanish—*poof!* She'd mumble and drone, while we all would groan, lost in balance sheets, feeling goofed.
Fire Teacher. Brought candy for halloween
Clear every good review was written by her. She does not put any effort into her slides and does not teach properly with her injecting her pointless life stories into every lesson.
I'm in her class right now and she's talking about where to get cheap hotels in January
A 2.2 rating is way too generous
I don't understand how she became a professor
Literally the worst experience in haskayne bar NONE. Do everything in your power to avoid her, take the class with someone else of drop it if you can't. Never answers questions, never covers all the content, never goes through any in-class revision and is always talking about something irrelevant.
Not very helpful when asking questions even basic ones like what to focus on a midterm etc no help whatsoever expect you to learn all the slides up to 400 for only 50 slides to come up on the final/midterm
This professor really just vanished after she got covid before our midterm, leaving us students out there with not much support at all. And she is kinda rude when i talked to her so politely
Honestly, the worst professor I've had. She's rude and not very helpful, and it seems like she's being forced to teach. It's essentially a self-taught class for me.
I would say Anita is an OKAY prof. Acct 323 itself isn't very difficult my problem with her is that she is very disorganized with her D2L. She also never posts the answers to the class activities on there. I stopped attending her lectures because her teaching style is not for me, in terms of explaining the content YouTube helped me more.
Another not ideal accounting prof, for the money I paid and still have to teach myself the whole class is wild. Dry lectures, I stopped attending but just gotta do good on midterm and final cuz thats 80% of ur course grade.
She is a prof who cares and is clearly passionate about her teaching, but she explains concepts in class in a way in which she assumes you already fully understand the concept which is ineffective for me. I personally struggled to get anything from attending all of her lectures and ended up relying on the textbook to learn.
Before the midterm she basically read off the slides, did practice papers, and usually only teaches for 50 of the 75mins. The midterm was extremely similar to the in class exercises. But after she taught less and did more talking about her personal life (once for 40mins straight). The final had some materials that weren't taught in class.
You basically have to learn everything yourself, attending every single lecture and paying attention every moment will simply not be enough. lol
She is more worried about getting attention then wanting students to do well in the class. You lose 2% of grade if your on your phone or computer while she lectures
Nice lady. All she does is read off PP's that already have almost no info compared to other lectures, and what is there is terribly formatted. Doesn't explain what she's reading off the slides very well, just lists off what the slides say and expect you to understand what they all mean. The class is enjoyable enough, just don't take it with Anita.
Listen, she's a good person, very kind and has great personality. But brother, her lectures are so boring fam. Her slides are honestly a joke, there is no information and teaches nothing that prepares students for success. If you want to succeed, teach yourself and read the publisher's textbook. Try to avoid her as a prof or go to another lecture.
avoid anita at all costs, lectures are very poor quality, tests are weighted horribly regarding the topics involved, the other sections in the same class (that have another professor) were allowed to use notes during the same quizzes we were not.
Although ACCT 323 is a mandatory course, avoid taking it with Anita. Her tests (midterm and final) are weighted so heavily, making up 80% of your mark. Her slides are very disorganized and she simply reads off of them as if she is reviewing the content instead of teaching it. I stopped attending lectures and relied on the textbook and YouTube.
She misses alot of things that are tested on midterm and final. Talks off topic alot during lecture time.
Anita is very boring, she doesn't allow phones in class, and is rather condescending. Try and avoid her if you can.
Thanks for letting me finish my minecraft realm in your class!
Anita was horrible. She was passive aggresive and did not give her students access to her slide decks to study, as they are her "intellectual property". She didn't give any study material and barely taught anything during the lectures. My friend came into one class to see what it was like and she tried to talk to him about her Mexico trip forever.
She helped my friend build his minecraft realm DURING the lecture. She is an awful prof
She creates a toxic learning environment, condescending af. She gives out "bonuses" for not being on your phone but it's given out to everyone at the start of the semester. I'm no genius but I'm sure that's not what a bonus is. If you are on your phone she will stop the lecture and humiliate you in front of everyone and ask to see you after class
Worst professor I've ever had by FAR. I can't stay awake, but it doesn't matter because she's probably talking about some vacation in her life anyways. She uses accounting language SO MUCH even to explain things... I am currently watching videos on google to learn managerial accounting for the final because I bombed the midterm.
Why is she still employed?
Worst professor I've ever had. She is condescending when a student asks questions. You are graded by very few things. She does not teach and explain very well. Her lecture notes are disorganized and will confuse you more than teach you. Prepare to learn all by yourself.
She was nice to work with. She was happy to go over exams. It was easier for me to follow while learning in my own. Going to class didn't have much value
Do yourself a favor and drop this class if you get stuck with Anita
