She gives us powerpoint slides to print out. The tests are straightforward. If you have trouble, she will help you out. During her lectures, she will tell you what to study for on the exams. She's a great prof because she actually cares about her students.
Great professor; I would totally recommend taking her. Three exams--she drops the lowest one and doubles your highest. There isn't a single thing on her exams that isn't on the study guide she gives you for each unit and the main concepts at the end of her power points. Very straightforward in explanations and tests. Great prof!
She is helpful if you go to her office hrs. The lecture was absolutely useless and you get to print out the slides that were presented in class. Maybe the test before were straight forward but, I would now say that the T.A's certainly try to over due the difficulty of a question, so much so, that the class is often interrupted just to clarify the q
Great Prof. She is not going to give you the answers straight forward like some might do, but she truly cares that you learn and understand. She really listens to students and wants them to do well. She does expect you to carry your own weight, but you should do that already. If you really want to learn Biology, take her class.
If you can have someone else for genetics, please choose them. One of the worst professors I had at UT.
I did not like her class at all. She's a nice lady but her class is ridiculous. I studied and read a ton but would not have passed if I didn't have such a good TA. I didn't learn anything from Latham; I only learned things useful for the tests in my TA session. Her tests were extremely hard, especially the final. I wouldn't recommend her.
I absolutely LOVED this class. Latham is extremely helpful and will go over the lesson until you understand it completely. I honestly don't understand what the other comments are talking about. She was great--nice, humorous, and helpful. If you want an A, read the chapters--that's it. This class made me love biology.
LISTEN: You have to work HARD in this class. She checks attendence through the iClicker quizes she gives in class. She goes through slides and lectures and lectures off of them. Her tesets are mutiple choice and open ended, questions come from sliedes, book so make sure you read. This class is not easy but it really teaches and prepares for MCAT
she is a wonderful professor! if you study and go to class then this class should be a breeze. take her if you can for bio 311c.
Very hard class! Her tests are near impossible. Quizzes are impossible. And the final is ridiculous. You have to go to class. But she is very nice and helpful if you go to her.
Sweet lady. class is hard but capable. you have to study, can't get behind. quizzes given in dicussion sec they are pretty easy. test are alittle hard but passable if you study hard, test are mainly application. half MC half short answer. very helpful if you need extra help. good teacher you just have to work hard to get that good grade.
loved her class RECOMMEND IT:)could have easily gotten an A n this class had I applied myself. Prof Latham is a funny lady who really gets into what she is teaching. She uses powerpoints 95% and asks us questions in class. Her tests only reflect things she said in class, unless she specifically says "go home and look this up." no graded hw.
Good professor. She kept that class interesting. She prepares students well for the tests.
She is a very good teacher. The quizzes in discussion sections can be a little ridiculous. The exams, are fairly hard, but passable.
If you are a hard worker and want to understand the material well, especially if you are taking the MCAT, this is the class for you. However, she is by no means a easy professor. Tests are straightforward, but they require thinking and a certain amount of memorization. Her lectures are clear and she is helpful but she has a slight accent.
I loved her! I thought the tests were pretty good! After each test she asked us what was hard and adjusted the time and number of questions to our particular class's needs. Really seems to care about her student's success. You can get an A if you apply yourself. :)
Finally a professor who can teach! She was extremely helpful and was concerned with the progress of her students. She incorporated activities into most of the classes which made lectures fun. Her accent was difficult to get used to. Tests were MC and short answer. READ THE BOOK. Friendly, approachable, and made the subject simple to understand.
She was a good professor, she cared a lot about the progress of students and her lectures were pretty easy to follow even though her accent is a little tough to understand sometimes. I learned alot in this class even if my grade doesn't show it.
Seriously the BEST bio Prof i have ever had
Please save yourself, please do not take her. You will regret it, there are plenty of better prof. at UT
Almost all these comments are by students who are probably naturally A students. So unless you make A's in majority of your courses in UT, do not take her. Nice teacher, impossible test questions you can hardly comprehend. You study an information of an olympic size pool but only tested about a cup.
If I were you, I wouldnt take her. her lectures are rarely informational and she throws questions that are near impossible. Take Wandelt. Better prof. p.s. she will lie to u that the txtbk is optional and her tests are manageable, but unless u pull all-nighters regularly, you wouldnt make it.
Basically taught everything to myself. Honestly, getting a B in this class was pretty good considering her teaching styles. I would go to class, but I would learn nothing. The only reason I would attend class would be because of iClicker questions. Be sure you just do everything online and READ THE BOOK THOROUGHLY . She rarely really taught.
Good Bio professor. She cared a lot for her students and her class is pretty easy if you do the work. Read the textbook!
Really Great, helps you understand the material. Passionate about the subject. Constantly asking her student how they are doing! GREAT WOMAN
I thought Dr Latham was spectacular last semester, she made up lots of analogies that helped you memorize concepts. Very helpful inside and outside of class, if you read, do the quests, and pay attention in class it will be an easy A+.
Dr. Latham is in my opinion one of the best biology professors out there. She makes you work for your grade, but not to the point where it's ONLY you doing ALL the work. If you are serious about becoming a GOOD doctor, pharmacist, PA, etc., I definitely recommend her. She's also a very outgoing and fun lady that is concerned about her students. :)
Latham is pretty nice & funny, but her lecture & handouts were not that deep or useful. Learned ALOT but only get tested on a small portion. The quizzes were tricky even tho it seemed easy. Ended up dropping the class although I took bio in hs & got a 4 on the AP.
Dr. Latham's class is a flipped class. It helps if you read or do the learning modules before class. I read the textbook a lot for this class. The TA is really good at explain unclear things during discussion. Discussion is mandatory. She gives out activities that counts towards your grade to do to the TA and attendance is taken.
Latham is a great prof. She will keep you busy with her homework and handouts, but they wont take a lot of time. Her objective handouts are really helpful for her tests and quizzes. The class ranges from a Med-Hard, but quite manageable. Read the TB also, some question might pop-up on her tests as a surprise. Little extra Credit but good curves!!
She is an amazing woman! She cares so much about her student and her passion for biology is like no other. She always asks the class how they are doing and the lectures are ALWAYS interesting. You HAVE to read, but honestly, she'll make you love biology a lot more than you already do.
Dr. Latham is one of those people that you see as an inspiration. She loves what she teaches and cares so much for her students. She's the only professor I've had that has ever bothered to ask how the class is doing. She genuinely cares for her students. Her class is tough, but definitely worth it.
A lot of people complain that they "basically taught themselves" the material. Although that is partially true, people need to understand that this is BIOLOGY! You NEED to read the material to fully understand it. You have to read before the class starts and she will definitely help to the best of her ability with anything you're struggling with.
Definitely one of the better biology/genetics professors at UT. She keeps lectures interesting and she is very loud and always excited. I Loved her class and would definitely take it again.
Dr. Latham is a very kind lady. With her lectures, it cannot be any clearer that she loves teaching and loves helping her students. She cares a lot about the success of her students, but will not make it easy on you.
Dr. Latham is by no means an easy professor. Don't expect to just walk in, memorize biology and walk out with an A. Her exams are application based and prepare you for your upper division/pre-med courses. Although she is a difficult professor, she is also one of the better lecturers that UT has to offer. I loved her class and her love for biology.
Amazing professor!
She cares so much about her students. If you are confused with anything she is always happy to help and she is very approachable. Her exams are a bit tough, but thats biology.
Dr. Latham is a great lecturer. She brightens up your day and cares about how the class is doing not only in her class, but in others as well. The class was overall difficult, but manageable. 5 stars!
She's a good professor. Most of what you learn is on your own(reading), but that's just how it's gonna be in biology. She does a really good job of forcing you to learn the material though. She is overall a great professor and I definitely recommend her to anyone who is willing to input the time.
As long as you do everything you're told and study hard you'll get an A. Amazing professor!
As long as you read and pay attention, you'll get a good grade! Even if you don't read, she covers enough of the material during her lectures to get you through the course, but don't expect a high grade. She was overall an extraordinary professor. I'm hoping she teaches the entire bio sequence so that I can take her again.
Lectures are extremely engaging/interesting. I'm not a huge fan of biology, but Dr. Latham speaks with so much passion that you can practically feel her love for bio. Tests were a bit difficult, but as long as you read, you'll be fine.
Very funny professor. Always kept the class laughing with her charisma. The class was a bit difficult, but very manageable.
Cool professor! Loved this class.
Latham is one of the best bio professors at UT! If you have a chance to take her, you should!! She cares a lot about her students and is very kind.
Amazing prof.
Her class is not that bad if you actually read the book and study. A lot of people were struggling in her class, but those were the people who weren't willing to put in the effort. Dr. Latham was a great person and an amazing lecturer!
She assigns ALOT of readings and exams are difficult, but she's by your side the entire way through. She's always willing to help and she loves biology!
Grading criteria was pretty straight forward. She's a really great teacher!
She is an amazing professor! She cares about her students so much and want to help you in anyway possible. I am so lucky to have gotten her as my biology professor. I didn't like biology in high school, but coming to this class i now love it.
She is a great professor! She made biology so fun for me. I was always excited to go to her class.
Dr. Latham really prepares you for future biology classes. She's definitely one of a kind! Her class isn't too difficult as long as you read.
Latham is the sweetest professor I've ever had at UT. Her class is super easy if you just put effort into it and don't push it aside. Lectures are a bit boring sometimes and there is a lot of reading involved but definitely worth it. Would definitely take her again!
Latham is a very sweet and passionate lady. Her accent took me a while to get used to. Her class at times felt like High School, she expected you to sit with your groups and call out students that came in late. Her tests were not easy or too hard, but for sure you NEED to study. She only had pictures in her power points so read the textbook!!!
Extremely caring lady! I couldn't recommend her enough!
Latham is awesome! Her grading system is very forgiving and gives you a lot of chances to make an A in the class. However its easy to fall behind in that class, so I would suggest always trying to be a chapter ahead to not fall back. I find this works super well since in class she will only go over what's relevant. Prepares you for future classes.
She was a great teacher. As long as you read the book and put in the work, you could do well. The book is really helpful so READ IT!!! Her exams were manageable but you definitely needed to study to do well. She had learning modules videos which helped me better understand the material and your scores on them could help your grade out.
I definitely think that Dr. Latham is way more of a mentor and a good person to talk because her office hours are amazing. However, as a lecturer, she does get off track and she does not go in depth with the subject. Most of the materials will be on the online modules. Overall, she's a good teacher, and the class is semi doable, but you must try.
She is great! Test are a little on the difficult side but if you read and study ALOT you will do well.
Dr. Latham is the nicest professor ever. She always asked all of us how our day was, "Too much for a Monday (her catchphrase)"? She lectures over the main ideas, not so much the details. But that's Biology. We have to read! If you don't like to read, I'd suggest you take another Bio prof. Overall, you'll enjoy being her class. She's great.
Dr. Latham is amazing! She is very passionate which makes her lectures very engaging. She truly cares about her students. Her lectures are very helpful but focused on main ideas. if you want an A you MUST read the book. I really enjoyed her class and I would definetly recommend her.
Study EVERYTHING! She gives you specific sections of the chapters she wants you to know, READ THOSE. Do all of the objectives on the homework and go through old class activities. If you did all of that, you would usually be well prepared for the test. CSS is a must, it was extremely helpful for me. Use every source she gives you.
Dr. Latham is definitely passionate, but lectures could get a little boring sometimes. Exams are made up of multiple choice and free response, both are tricky so study study study!!!
Dr. Latham is honestly the best professor I've had here at UT. She is extremely nice and the way she structures her lectures make the material way easier to understand.
DONT take this 1st semester if you can avoid it!!! Keep track of due dates b/c they aren't consistently on one day and for example Latham will say it's due in 5 days when its due in 2 days. Just check canvas, youll be good. For exams learn the ws objectives like the back of your hand, know discussion ws and you can get an A. She gives candy!!!!!!
Due dates for worksheets are random, always check canvas. The weeks I didn't read the textbook I fell behind so bad. She only gives candy to people who participate or answer questions. Start studying for exams 2 weeks before because the concept questions require a high understanding of the material
Extra credit was 8 pts total consisting of a chemical bonds survey worth 1 pt, a mid semester survery worth 1 pt, a groups concept map worth 5 pts, and a survey during the final worth 1 pt. There is 6 quizzes, 13 quest modules, 15 homework worksheets, 11 class activities and 5 discussion activities. Super sweet prof that knows her stuff! Enjoy!
Dr. Latham is so funny and nice. I love the fact that she's the only professor that asks us often how our day was. Don't go to her office hours. She say's that the CA's are better than her. Go to CSS! They don't gave you the answers but make you think. This prepares you greatly for the test. All in all, her test can be challenging. So, study alot!!
Don't make the same mistake I did. I devoted all my energy to past material and it cost me. The final is mostly cellular respiration, photosynthesis, energy/enzymes, and biotechnology. Focus mostly on these topics! The final is alright. The thing that makes it different from past exams is that it's mostly application. In conclusion, study 3 weeks!
She moved the grade categories up but don't count on it. It will depend on how the class does overall. The TA Chahee is super funny and nice. You will love this class! The CA's are cool as well. Goodluck to future students taking this class with this amazing professor.
AMAZING!! I struggled with the first 2 exams (failed them both) but then i went to CSS and got a 87 on my third exam and passed the class with a C+. Go to CSS, go to her office hours and introduce yourself. shes the BEST!!
Hard will not let you do anything. Bully to students, a meany head. Studied a lot so got on A she doesn't even teach!
Professor Latham is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Shes so sweet, every Monday she asks the class how their weekend was. All of her homework is based on completion, so you should get a 100 if you turn it in. She gives detailed learning objectives which are EXACTLY what she is going to construct the exam from! If you do the learning objectives then A!
Latham is does a very good job at explaining the material. Attend the lectures, listen, do the homework, read sections, and fill out learning objectives, then it should be fairly easy to get an A. The exams are straightforward from the lectures and readings.
Dr. Latham was an amazing professor. You need to go to class in order to get ask the information for tests because she will literally tell you specific questions that will be on the tests, but all lectures are available online. She cares very much about her students and their success in her course. Anita is an amazing professor.. highly recommend
Dr. Latham is by far one of the most caring professors I've ever taken and her excitement and passion towards biology truly reflects in her lectures. Her test are very fair and she often asks the class if she needs to repeat a confusing concept. Dr. Latham also brings candy for class participation!!
This course is easy if you study. Be prepared for the free response tests though. Dr. Latham genuinely cares for her students and will be forgiving of you if you mess up on the quizzes and tests! Attendance is taken in class and discussion!
Dr. Latham is a very respectful professor. She cares about your grades and actually wants to connect with her students making sure they understand the material. Make sure you read the book because if you don't you will be behind in lecture.
Dr. Latham is straight forward with what's going to be on the tests and quizzes. Being up to date on the reading is KEY! So make sure to read BEFORE going to class so you don't fall behind. And she's kind and knowledgeable so don't be afraid to ask questions. Also, the final consists mostly of the material after the 3rd and a chunk of the 1st exam.
The key to this class is reading the textbook before you come to class. Doing this makes her lectures much more understandable and allows you to ask better questions. As long as you keep up with the reading and go over her powerpoints the tests are pretty straight foward.
This class is SUPER easy to blow off. BEWARE of this because her exams aren't anything like her lectures. Stick to reading the book and attending office hours. HW every Friday and Saturday. 5 Quizzes and 4 exams. This is my major and it was soo hard.
While Dr. Latham's lectures are quite informative and easy to follow, you will NOT get an A or even maybe a B if you do not read the textbook. That is just a fact in this class. Her exams are at a much higher level than the lectures. I read the assigned chapters, didnt take notes in class but listened and ended up w/ an A in the class. Read up :)
Very smart professor. She was very nice to the class and understanding if you did not understand something or if you missed info due to sickness etc. Best Professor ever!
TAKING MOLECULAR GENETICS AND MEDICINE (BIO 366R) NOW! LOVE THIS CLASS!
Amazing professor, made me love biology and made me wish I could retake her class. You will learn a lot from her, plus her class is easy!
Loved taking her class, if you put forth the effort you'll make an A easily
If you do not care anything about biology and is just a class you want to get done and through with, take her class. She is an amazing person, but a very bad teacher. I did not learn a single thing about biology and I was actually excited to learn about university level biology. She teaches intro to bio like your already supposed to know this.
She is probably one of the best, if not the best professors at UT. If you go to class, study and go to her OH you will be fine. I have retained so much information from this class and it is easily the most practical for my field
You have to read the textbook she's only there to recap you on what you were suppose to read. She is amazing she loves biology and anyone who hated her class probably didn't do so well because they did not study and expected the answers to fall from the sky. She's great and her class is easy if you just learn.
Taking Molecular Genetics and Medicine with Dr. Latham was a wonderful experience! She is so sweet and interacts with all of her students! Although this class is small (only 40 students), it is a discussion based class! Her exams are hard because it's all short so study, study, study! She even invites guest to lecture! Absolutely amazing professor!
She's a gem. Teaches from ppt slides and suggests you print those out, but you can usually get by without printing. TAs are good. Tests are about average difficulty. 3 tests, final is half last unit and half everything else.
latham is the sweetest, for best understanding you should read the chapter before class. During lecture she always asks if shes going to fast, she answers questions nicely and doesn't try to make you feel stupid in front of the whole class the test were pretty hard but i did ace the second exam bc i put in the work.
Dr. Latham's so kind, will explain things multiple times if people seem confused. class activities, discussion has quizzes and activites--go to class. drops 3 lowest learning modules, drops lowest quiz, replaces lowest midterm with average of the three, final is cumulative-mostly recent material. textbook is helpful but not required. print PPTs!!
Be prepared for tricky tests. There is a lot of application questions instead of just memorizing and knowing the concepts because she makes you think how to apply them. Book is very broad and she chooses to focus on selected, specific topics. One bad test grade can mess your whole average up.
Honestly, this was a great Biology class. Most people that complain didn't put in enough effort. Dr. Latham really wants you to get an A and there are plenty of resources to do so like CSS, and the book. If you do both you'll find the tests easy and get a good grade. Dr. Latham is kind and sweet to all of her students. She is a must for BIO311C!!!!
Dr. Latham is a sweet lady, I personally really enjoyed her lectures and found them helpful when it came to the test so take good notes. all homework is a completion grade. The majority of your final grade is determined by your performance on the 3 midterm exams. Tests are multiple choice and free response, they generally were not too difficult
At first I did so bad in her class. My first exam I got a 68, because I didnt really pay attention to her lectures. TIP: PLEASE LISTEN TO HER LECTURES AND READ! I started to record her lectures and listen to them again once I got back home and did SO well. Ask her questions!!!! Shes amazing and SO nice. Collaboration with other students is KEY.
Loved her! She makes lectures entertaining and she truly wants her students to learn. Textbook is not required or mandatory, but reading the suggested sections really helped!!! Tests consist of a multiple choice section and free response section. Pay attention and you'll do well!
Dr. Latham is amazing. Best teacher you could take for your freshman year. She really loves her students and makes her lectures very interesting. If you do everything she says and put in the work, an A is easily attainable.
Dr. Latham does not give good advice on how to take on her class, so you have to try many different approaches on studying the material and see what works for you. You have to self-teach yourself as lectures are not very helpful and the textbook was helpful for only a small percentage of the exam. You have to put in a lot of work for this class!
Latham was hands down the best professor I had freshman year, and I strongly encourage that anyone interested in biology takes her. She truly cares about her students, and it shows. She gets that everyone makes mistakes, and the workload is fair. Not an easy, mindless "A" tho, so make sure to read over your textbook and to take really good notes!
Latham is incredibly sweet. Lectures are incredibly important because she goes over a lot in one class. Grades are padded with participation grades, so its not hard to pass, but the content is relatively difficult. She is a wonderful prof and will do whatever she can to help
Dr. Latham is by far one of the sweetest professors and she deeply cares for her students. Book reading is required and going to lecture as well. Tests are a bit challenging but overall good. I would highly recommend you take her, you won't regret it. Super approachable and nice. Will definitely take her for genetics!
Dr. Latham is the nicest professor you will ever have. She always checks in to make sure we are understanding the material, and let's us have input on what we learn. Her tests are word for word from the study guide, and the study guide is word for word from the powerpoints, so as long as you put forth the tiniest effort you can do well.
Dr. Latham is the best 311C professor. She is super sweet and is always willing to explain any questions a student asks. Her exams are straight forward and easy as long as you go to lecture and complete the learning objectives on the homeworks. The only bad thing about her is that she doesn't teach 311D.
Dr. Latham's lectures are great and she really helps you understand the material. However, her tests can be a bit tricky. There were 3 exams and the lowest exam grade was replaced with the average of the initial 3 exams (try your best on all 3). Her exams were also a mix of free response and multiple choice. Overall, good professor for intro bio
Brilliant professor! In class tests are difficult but she makes up for it with extra credit. Make sure to advocate for take home tests!
Two words: A QUEEN. She is the best professor i have had my freshman year. She cares so much about her students success in the class room. She does the MOST to be a good teacher. Her h.w isnt just busy work. Its the most beneficial h.w ive ever done. You learn so much from it and it helps with the test. 100/10 Take her class. LOVE HER!!!
If youre in TIP, just take her. Amazing lectures, class work is fair, gives tons of extra credit, and tests are fair. Amazing professor, I dont understand anyone who gave her bad ratings.
I had Dr. Latham during the pandemic, and she was the most considerate and kind professor. She gave easy/short homework assignments (about 3 a week), answers easily found in her slides. These homeworks help so much to prepare for the exams. easy/fair exams! She explains SO WELL and CLEAR. 10/10. learning objectives + homework are the exam basically
Dr. Latham was an amazing teacher to have for my first semester in Biology. She made it accessible and fun to learn. Absolutely recommend her to anyone who is passionate in Biology but also wants a manageable intro to the sciences at UT. The class is mostly memorization based, but the assignments do allow you to apply your knowledge.
Amazing professor truly cares about her students and TAs are amazing. I got a B on my first test asked TA for help gave great advice and got A's on all the other ones. Gives lots of extra credit and wants you to do well. Presentation slides are a lifesaver!
She is a literal queen! She handled the epidemic amazingly and was so supportive and helpful. She explains concepts so clearly and is an amazing professor all around for bio.
Dr. Latham was by far the most caring professor Ive had this whole semester! I have no BIO background from high school and managed this class very well. We have lecture activities and hmk assignments each week that literally count as a completion grade and can get done within the lectures. The tests were based off the PowerPoints COMPLETELY.
DR. LATHAM IS A QUEEN!!!! TAKE HER. she's pretty fair and her class is structured pretty fair as well (especially due to COVID). Classes and assignments are manageable if you keep up with them (there's a lot of content in bio). Attend CSS in you're in TIP; most helpful source if you want an A in the class or if you're struggling. Book isn'tneeded.
Dr. Latham is an AMAZING professor! Due to COVID, this class was entirely online. But this was not a limitation. Her lectures and assigned work were very consistent, so you knew what was forthcoming. Her quizzes and tests were based on the PPTs and were relatively easy. She is a TIP professor, which grants extra assistance. Gave out extra credit.
Dr. Latham and her TA/CA team are all super amazing and really great at teaching the material. She gave a lot of extra credit which was super helpful and all of her exams/quizzes were straight forward if you did the HW and watched her lectures. She's super caring and open to suggestions for class/lecture and comments or issues. 11/10 recommend her!
Dr. Latham was such an understanding, sweet professor! The annotated power points and TA/CAs were great. You do have to study and make sure to ask questions for clarification, but she provided a lot of extra credit. There were quizzes, tests, hw, worksheets, and a group project. Solid, detailed class. You can tell she cares & wants you to learn.
Dr. Latham is literally such an amazing and caring professor. If you're taking her class use the annotated powerpoints, they help a lot. Pay attention in lectures and read your texts and it's super easy to pass this class. I will definitely miss Dr. Latham's class.
Really really sweet teacher. She is really understanding of the time and how it is for freshman students so the class is made for you to succeed. TA's are really great and they made the class a lot easier. Latham is really smart and gets her teaching across really well. She's very sweet and converses with students like friends.
Had her Fall 2020. Dr. Latham truly is the sweetest professor ever. 99% of the TA's are also amazing (mine was passive aggressive). As long as you study the annotated powerpoints, you should easily pass the class. Her quizzes and exams were pretty similar, so it wasn't too bad. HW were pretty simple. Definitely recommend taking her!
Dr. Latham is WONDERFUL! If you just do the work and study her "Annotated PPTs" you will definitely pass her course with an A. The CA/TA team was very helpful, and they want to see you succeed. She offers a good amount of extra credit too. Your graded on HW, worksheets, quizzes, tests, and a group project. Recommend 10/10!
Amazing professor! Dr. Latham is very helpful and wants everyone to succeed. Go to CSS and Office Hours when needed. Study the annotated power points and learning objectives to do well on tests. Also, go to the CSS exam reviews. They help clear up any misunderstandings before the test!
Dr. Latham is by far the best professor I've had. She is the sweetest lady and cares about her students doing well in her class. The class is very clear and organized. Discussion sections are also really helpful as you get to work on the worksheet for that week with others. She also offered a lot of extra credit, which is great. Overall amazing!
Professor Latham is great! She really cares about her students and always makes sure everyone is getting the help they need to understand the content. Her class does not require attendance and they are always recorded. Her TAs are the best too they are both easy to talk to and don't grade too harshly.
Latham is wonderful. The sweetest lady everrrr. Her lectures are accessible if you don't show up and she is great at what she does and super passionate. She def cares about her students and only wants to see you succeed! Her exams aren't too bad if you pay attention and study. Other assignments were pretty simple. Overall, take her if you can! <3
Great choice honestly. Probably the best bio teacher. Super caring, homework is completion, lots of extra credit opportunities. If you cant make class, there are zoom lectures. Her lectures are great either way. Tests can be tricky because they are application. Dont studydont pass.
Wonderful prof! You have to really pay attention to lectures, and drawing things out will really help you understand and apply concepts for tests. Test heavy course, but there's lots of extra credit opportunity and completion grade assignments. It can take time to find effective study strategies, but put in effort and you will be successful!
This is the BEST class at UT. Dr. Latham is such a caring professor and wants her students to succeed. Grades based on 3 tests (taken online), HW activities (very easy because she and the TAs went over them in class), HW quizzes (unlimited attempt so it's a guaranteed 100), a fun group project. Offer lots of extra credits. Easy A for a BIO class.
She is one of the most caring and considerate teachers at UT. Very clear on what she is testing on through her lectures, notes on powerpoints, and course objectives. This makes her tests easy/straightforward. Most of your grade and course work is participation (lecture activities, discussions, group projects, and quizzes). Plsease take her!
She is such a great professor! Dr. Latham along with her TAs made for a very smooth transition into college. She gives tons of extra credit and also gives learning objectives which tell you what you'll be tested over. Her class was light-hearted and fun, but we also learned a lot! She made me feel safe in her classroom, she is so nice and helpful!
Dr. Latham was a great professor! Her lectures were very easy to follow and understand. We did have a textbook for the class, but I never read it and still was able to finish the class with an A. Just attend lectures and discussions and take good notes. We had group projects throughout the semester, but they were not hard. Lots of extra credit.
dr. latham really cares about her students! lectures were optional and we had weekly homework & an ongoing group project throughout the semester. if you read the annotated powerpoints you'll be set! i only wish she would've given us more practice questions/resources other than the textbook.
Dr. Latham is the sweetest, most caring professor and she REALLY wants us to succeed. If you can take this class, do it! Exams are open note, application based, and homework + participation assignments are completion grade. She is a great lecturer, and the information is very interesting and engaging. I loved her class, seriously, take it!
She is probably the best biology professor for Bio 1. Don't need a textbook for it, she has everything in the powerpoint that will be in midterms, she is very clear on the activites that will be due every week and quizes with unlimited attempts. Also she loves to say "Is it too much for today".
Definitely one of my favorite professors. This was the last biology class I needed to graduate and it was a great class when you have senioritis. She understood we were busy and that the material was a lot sometimes. 3 open note exams, most assignments were completion, and one term paper but pretty simple. She ended content a week before last day.
Professor Latham is a great professor who truly cares about her students. She would even extend deadlines if students expressed that they were going through a busy/stressful time. Her lectures are engaging and she is passionate about what she teaches. Her assignments weren't too difficult. However, your grade is very dependent on the tests.
lecture and discussion activities are super easy and they usually give you the answers. can attend class in person or asynchronously, tests are all online. offers some easy extra credit. she recommends you read the book before lecture but i never did and was fine.
im currently taking latham for 311c and i highly recommend her! you can tell that she is very passionate about what she does and it makes the lecture format a lot more bearable. while the content is sometimes hard to digest she offers a lot of guidance and opportunities to get a better understanding. overall very genuine and loved taking her course
Dr. Latham is a great professor, while her lectures are generally fast-paced, all of her speaker notes can be found on the PowerPoint so nothing is really missed. She is fairly lenient with her grading as she provides extra assignments to balance out any lower scores.
Lectures are fast but tests are easy. She's funny and caring
AMAZING!!! Lectures move quickly, if you are not focused during lectures you will get lost. You have a quiz a week, it's open notes. Exams are very similar to reviews. You do need to study and the class is a decent amount of work, but it is very manageable! The Final is online and open note! She makes you love biology!
Everything is set in stone, 2 extremely easy assignments and open note quiz due every sun. You do the notes you pass simple as that. Drawing everything is the key to success. She's literally the sweetest person, and gives so much points back on exams (3 exam). There's a group concept map, a freebie tbh. Overall, want to learn and get an A take her.
Latham is a great professor. She cares about her students and is very friendly to everyone. If you attend lectures and do all assignments then you will have an easy time in the class. The lectures can be fast paced but nothing too difficult. There is a textbook but you don't need to purchase it if you don't want to (I didn't). Highly recommend her!
Dr. Latham is the best. Her lectures are easy to follow along and she makes sure we aren't confused. She really cares about her students and their thoughts on due dates. There are group projects, however they are easy to do. Weekly A&E and lecture activities but they are fairly easy to complete. The textbook and lectures really help for midterms.
I took Bio311D with Dr.Latham and she was amazing! She had the best powerpoints with the most detailed notes which were heavily reflected on her tests. She is a very enaging and very understanding as well as accessible outside of class. She makes biology fun to learn and overall I would highly recommend her. (TAs in her class are super helpful)
Latham's class was pretty fun and not really difficult. All you really need to focus on for exams (which are open note) is to read the lecture slides' speaker notes and you should be able to get by. Weekly homeworks which aren't hard. Really you don't HAVE to attend as long as you understand the concepts and speaker notes, but going is helpful.
Dr. Latham is the sweetest professor! She's light-hearted, kind, and funny during her lectures. The class is very simple with projects that are easy, don't take much time, and straightforward. Exams are online and open notes so they're a breeze to get a good grade on them. Attendance is mandatory and is checked every day of class.
This is the best professor at UT. This woman was so kind and understanding with her students and did everything in her power to make sure we succeed. A lot of material is covered but you learn how to study for this class. If you can please take her.
AMAZING PROFESSOR SO ORGANIZED AND UNDERSTANDING i wish i could have a prof like her for the rest of my classes
Dr. Latham is so sweet and caring for all her students. She takes the time to walk around the room and converse with students every now and then in between lectures which makes me feel very welcomed and encouraged to excel in the class.
Prof. Latham was amazing! She is so sweet, funny, and caring at all times. All the TA's and CA's were also great. I'm so glad I had her for bio this semester. Even though there can be a lot of information to learn, she breaks everything down so well.
Quite literally my favorite professor this semester. Dr.Latham is so incredibly organized with absolutely everything which is something that is very important to me. Her lectures were never boring and I would probably say that her class was my favorite to go to. Overall she absolutely amazing and if she taught another course I would take it.
I wish she taught 311D! Latham is hands down the best bio proff at UT, lectures are easy to understand and she walks around the entire room to make sure everyone understands the content, TA's and CA's are also very helpful
Dr. Latham is knowledgeable on her subject. She lectures every class period and follows slides she's made- using a new slide each class. BIO 311C is fast-paced and should not be taken lightly; however, the course is set up to help you succeed. Go to office hours and talk to the CAs and TA in discussion and you'll be fine.
One of the sweetest professors ever!!! The class is very fast-paced but she will emphasize what you need to know so PAY ATTENTION (it comes back on exams). Her power points are very easy to follow and her speaker notes are the most helpful. TAs and CAs were great. The class can be complex and difficult at times but she's the best professor for it!!
Enjoyed that class hard to find a better intro bio teacher. The lectures are kind of fast-paced so it can be difficult to understand everything but if you put in like 1-2 hrs a week of review you'll be fine. Tests are easy and there is a group project that's not hard. Also, main TA is a W
Dr. Latham is one of the best teachers at UT. During BIO 311C she was always making sure everyone understood everything, and also taught so well. Sometimes her exams could be confusing or tricky but they were still manageable. I would definitely recommend taking her!
Anita Latham is a teacher that I would highly recommend to other incoming students. She is always there to help her students. She pushes people to be the best version of themselves. She is very caring and I honestly understood every topic to the T, that I know I will be able to carry it over to my upper division classes.
Professor Latham is a fantastic instructor who truly cares about her students' success. Her engaging lectures, helpful TAs, and Unstuck AI make this class manageable despite the fast pace. Put in the work, and you'll excel.
Megan our TA, just know, I hope your pillows are always cold on both sides when you sleep.
I love Dr. Latham and her whole team of TA, CA! Came with little biology background but succeeded in this course thanks to how amazing she is. She's so caring, funny, and an amazing lecturer. I have hard time focus during class and it was fast paced too, but there is recorded video lectures that is super helpful! SHES THE MOST CARING PROFESSOR EVER
Great class altogether. Discussions were helpful and informative, Dr. Latham was very open to questions and always encouraged participation. CSS was also fun (I heard). Tests can be tough as they are MCQ and FRQ, but study the learning outlines and you'll breeze through. Memorization heavy, also the textbook is basically irrelevant. TAs are great.
Amazing professor! Dr. Latham truly cares for your education and makes an effort to help your understanding. She's very open to conversation and funny and I enjoyed her class thoroughly. Her teaching team and TA are amazing as well, and contributed a lot to my success in the class!
If you can take Bio 311C with latham then I highly recommend it. At times, the content could be overwhelming but she is a great teacher. The tests questions were fair, and she gave a good amount of extra credit. My TA, meghan, was great and explained everything perfectly. Most of the people that didn't do well just didnt put enough effort.
Great professor and great TAs. The lectures were all very engaging, and I would honestly take another class if she taught something else. It wasn't a difficult class and she is a very funny and sweet professor.
I vividly remember putting in my course evaluation for her and saying "she's good at everything except teaching."
Dr. Latham is awesome. She lectures very clearly, and makes sure we know exactly what we need to know before class. There's a lot of student support and tutorial opportunities, so if you fail, it's your fault.
Hard to understand
Latham was so cool. She gives out candy each time we answer a question, big motivator. She was also super supportive during tests and was very engaged with her ugcas. Very cool person very funny and likes to build one on one relationships.
She gave out candy whenever you got an answer right, and her exams were easy. 10/10 would take again.
Class boring asl. Teacher hard to understand and annoying. TAs are not helpful and I hated each one in the MWF 1 pm class with a passion.
Dr. Latham made learning biology really fun! You don't need to buy the textbook, just use the speaker notes that she has on her powerpoint slides. To do well on the exam, make sure you are able to answer all the Learning Outcomes. She's really caring so if you ever need help go to her office hours.
Professor Lathem is kind and truly wants you to succeed. I usually struggle with bio, but her lectures are clear and actually interesting. I didn't do well on tests, but still passed because of all the resources—weekly TA reviews, online quizzes, assignments, lots of extra credit, and tons of support. This class is primarily application-based!
She cares so deeply about students doing well in her class. SO MANY resources if you are struggling (take advantage of them). The content is def difficult but manageable. To study, know learning objectives and study all forms of practice questions. Her lectures can be hard to follow- I suggest taking notes before class. Class runs same each week
Professor Latham was the best! She is so sweet and genuinely cares about her students. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the test during her review sessions and wants each of her students to succeed. There are multiple opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester and her office hours are the secret to success in the class.
Professor Latham was amazing! She truly cares for her students and you can tell she has a passion for teaching. Her class is lecture heavy, however she breaks it down in ways you can understand and tells you all the topics covered in the exam. There are multiple extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Love her shes amazing. Class is easy i just did not study lol but definitely easy A. She cares, she takes feedback seriously and wants you to do good in the class. Favorite professor this semester.
Such a sweetheart! She's so caring and will change stuff based on the feedback she receives from students. In comparison to other bio professors, her work and tests are so much easier. Getting an A is very doable. If you have the chance to pick Dr.Latham, PICK HER!!!
She's so nice and she really cares for her students. During lecture she is very engaging and funny. Easy extra credit and easy homework assignments. She even pushed back weekly quiz time on Friday, because a group of us had another class on the other side of the campus right before, so we could take it on time.
Weekly low-stakes completion homeworks. Most difficult part of the class was the exams. Interesting class, though it takes a while at the start of the semester to cover all of the review material since everyone has different backgrounds. Very reasonable class to make an A in. Poster presentation was generous. Attendance is graded with a few drops.
