She's hot and energetic, but she only teaches you to her tests and she tells you what is on them, so you don't really learn the language. Super easy to get an 'A' in her class, but if you have to go on to Spanish 2 I wouldn't recommend her.
Class was super easy and she's reeaaally a energetic person [even at 8am] An 'A' is easy to come by, but you have to do a lot of self educating out of class if you are not familiar with the language

easy class as long as you stay on top of the work. easy to get an "A". very intergetic and hot! Fun class.
Wonderful teacher! Extremely patient and encouraging, never makes you feel stupid even when you completley screw something up! Very helpful with all aspects of learning Spanish and Latin culture and not afriad to go the extra mile to help you... I highly recommend her.
She substituted my Spanish 491 class for Mr.s Holmes and it was so much energy and we learned so much it wasn't even funny! Love her and I will have her for 305 this semester!
Class is a joke. Just attend and you get a B, speak time to time and answer question whether right or wrong but she is easy and cool! Always wiling to help!
I had this teacher for 202 and 305 and I thought both classes were extremely helpful. In 305 I learned how to feel completely comfortable when speaking and we also learned a lot about aspects of the different cultures of Latin America. Nadal was so patient and very non-judgemental. She is one of the best professors I have ever had.
Class is a joke, mad easy! She gives extensive presentation assignments and her tests are basic but you will work!
Nadal is extremely passionate about her work. She goes out of her way to motivate students.
She's great! Very passionate and motivated, it's hard not to do well..just show up and make sure to participate. Really understanding, Highly recommend the class!!
There is so much to say about Prof. Nadal...shes one of the best professors I've had at VCU! she has a passion for what she does and her passion and enthusiasm rubss off so you want to do your best!shes very helpful...just participate and come to class and you will get an A!!
Continuing with what everyone else said- if you have the chance to take Spanish with her, do it. She is an amazing professor and will help you with whatever you need. I often asked many questions in class and she always helped me with a smile.
This class was not easy... but I learned more than I ever had in my life. I had her three times and respect her too much. Just study and focus!
She is very passionate about Spanish and she makes it very easy to learn if u come to class!! I had her over the summer, and even though she experienced a loss her immediate family, she came in the next day with a smile on her face and we didn't even know until she told us. If you want to LEARN take her!! She is the best teacher I've had at vcu.
She has a passion and enjoys her job.. however she missed a lot of class.. making others not want to come. She would stress us out with tests and quizzes for a class of conversation. However there was NO conversation. What really pissed me off is how TAs did all the work and her always missing class!
Nadal is excellent. I enjoyed the cultural tips and the many conversations that we had after each short film, these allowed us to hear diff. accents from Latin America and learn about many cultures. I liked the presentations, skits & being helped to expand vocabulary, pronunciation and go to language lab to record ourselves. I recommend the class!
nadal is bubbly and nice for the most part. the things discussed in class were very interesting. (terrorism, aids, global warming) on tests and quizzes, vocabulary is nearly impossible but the rest was easy. she tells you exactly what to study. B+ with moderate effort. only negative- she definitely favors native (male) speakers over anyone else!
She is a wonderful teacher - enthusiastic, cheerful, and helpful. During class discussions though, she decidedly favors liberal opinions on immigration and health care and is not interested in hearing other things. Pay attention to the Powerpoints because test/quiz questions come directly from those.
Her class was fun and interesting.
I loved this class and I love Anita. She is passionate and really wants the students to be passionate about learning. She is amazing, this was her first semester teaching this class and it was a great experience.
I loved this class! She's got zero sympathy for slackers, so if you plan to slack, don't take the class. However, she will always try to engage her students as much as she can and her passion for the material will extend to you, if you are remotely paying attention. Great teacher. Great energy.
Professor is great, nice lady originally from puerto rico. interesting course with not much work. no homework but there are journal entries for each class due at the end of the semester along with an eight page essay, not as bad as you think. Highly recommended. Attendance does count. Test and quizzes are kinda long but really easy if you study.
She is a great teacher! She says things clearly so you can understand. Quizzes come straight from the powerpoint notes.
Her enthusiasm is contagious! She's very considerate of her students and probably one of the best professors I've had so far. My only issue was the first test because you're kind of lulled into a false sense of security. The tests are very specific and based on powerpoints, so study those VERY closely. Overall an easy and enjoyable class.
Nice person, but very disorganized , which made the class unduly difficult. Often posts assignments less than48 hours before due date. Moved due date for a major presentation forward only 1 week prior to new due date. non receptive to student input or ideas. If you need to plan your work, avoid Nadal. Do NOT recommend.
Afrolatino culture is one of more interesting classes I have taken at VCU. The professor is really outgoing and passionate. There's readings every night and you talk about them in class. Her quizzes/tests are pretty straightforward. Overall everyone should explore this class.
Extremely frustrating. She talked to us like we were babies, as if we didn't know how to speak Spanish, which was very annoying. Her projects are very vague, without an actual rubric, & she gives zero feedback on them. Also, her review sessions are vague compared to the preciseness of her exams. She's not very organized. Don't recommend.
I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I found the professor to be very helpful. I recommend this class to anyone.
The class covers a variety of subjects. You are encouraged to read articles from different Spanish newspapers and build your vocabulary. I find the professor to be very helpful and willing to answer any questions that you may have. Nadal is polite and respectful.I highly recommend the course.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Nadal is eager to help and will respond to any questions. If you keep up with the assignments and comment often you should not have a problem in this class. I highly recommend it.
I loved this class! I learned so much about Afro-Latin@s. I had never heard of the term before I took this class. I highly recommend the course and the professor.
I liked Professor Nadal but she let people in the class who were native speakers completely control the conversation- then would test on what they said. She let's people interrupt her, correct her, etc. and then isn't clear what the answer to her question was. I was more frustrated with how the class acted versus her style of teaching.
awesome first semester as a Spanish major. She grew up in an EnglishSpanish-speaking household, so she's awesome while giving lectures, but can help those struggling. 1010 would have her teaching me every semester of the way. She's incredibly sweet and loves the subjects she teaches. Take her if you get the chance!
fantastic lady, does act extremely motherly and will email you "worried" when you miss classes, but she is ridiculously passionate about her subject, and she runs a class that you want to show up to. This is my second course with Anita and I still plan to take more of hers in the future. 11/10 would recommend if you can take her!
Anita is the most passionate professor that I've had yet. She is super sweet and very encouraging in a class that could seem intimidating for a non-native speaker. She is extremely passionate about the material she teaches and keeps class fun. I would def take her again. SPAN 311 is super easy and interesting too.
Anita was bubbly, engaging, and created a comfortable learning environment. Class discussions were always interesting and engaging and filled with great information and insight from the text, her, or fellow students. You need to attend class, complete the readings, and be prepared to speak in class-answering/asking questions or sharing your opinion
Professors Nadal is energetic and fun. Exams/quizzes are straight forward. However, I studied a decent amount for final and didn't do great because majority of questions were simply true and false which was annoying. Was not a fan of how she made tests. Overall an easy and would recommend.
this class was very interesting. Professor Nadal is very passionate about the Afro-Latinx culture & will help you if you do not understand something. It's an easy B as long as you come to class. a lot of the material on the quizzes/tests come from the discussions in class. you will need the book & know how to relate it back to the class
She's very energetic and nice but she's unorganized. Her test and quizzes were never the same. By that I mean I never knew what to study because one quiz would be about vocabulary and the next would be about describing the order of events in a video. You had to be very specific. I'm a native speaker and I thought what she quizzed me on was silly.
Great lady, I really respected her as a person. However, her classes were SO VAGUE. When I asked for clarification, she wouldn't answer all my questions, and therefore I feel as though I ever did anything half right. She's very encouraging though, just don't expect a lot of structure. At all.
Profesora Nadal is a great teacher. Her class is very interactive and she is super passionate about her students and the courses she teaches! Span 305 is interesting as it covers various topics and is a great class to build your communication skills. Offers a lot of extra credit and is willing to work with a student .
Professor Nadal is a wonderful professor. She is passionate about her students as well as the Afro-Latino cultures. There is reading as well as some movies to watch, but the subject matter is so interesting, the reading does not feel like much. Honestly I wish I could take more of her classes. Each class was fun and allowed open discussion.
Professor Nadal is a very exciting, engaging professor. This class in particular is called "Advanced Spanish Conversation" so if you do not come to class or you do not speak in class, your grade will suffer. If you make an effort though, even if your grammar is incorrect etc, you will do just fine.
Avoid if you dont like disorganization!! Nadal is a passionate proffesor. The class is interesting, she shows a lot of videos and movies to spark conversations about Afro-latin@ which is great however the organization of the class was TERRIBLE! No mention of information to be on quiz/test until it was the class before!
I really enjoyed this class. I learned so much about Afro-Latinx cultures and enjoyed the videos that were shown. The textbook was very informative and there were many great events to go to throughout the semester. I appreciated her passion and dedication.
She is very accommodating to make sure students of all levels of Spanish are improving. Grammar is important on exams and students are expected to participate in class discussions. She made me feel comfortable to speak out as a shy student and offers a lot of resources to improve language learning.
Nadal is very sweet and cares for her students. She encourages participation and will call on people if nobody volunteers. Class is not difficult if you practice. Lectures mainly consisted of doing activities from the textbook in class. Oral exams can be a bit tricky so be sure to practice your listening skills. Gave us hugs after the final.
If you get the textbook, participate and do the work you will get a good grade. The class was really interesting and will learn more than you expect. She is great with communicating with you and wants the best for her students.
Nadal is such a good professor I cannot recommend her enough. She knows what she's talking about and genuinely cares about her students. I have never seen her get mad or upset at us, even when we don't understand something. Super energetic and a fun personality to be around.
This is the most unorganized class I have ever taken in college. Professor Nadal is unclear, unorganized, and vague. I did well in the class because I asked for clarification, but was met with rude responses when I did so. Be prepared to get information out of her with a lot of questioning. The class has potential. She doesn't.
VERY enthusiastic and active about educating us about the Hispanic/Latinx community and their struggles they face in this country as well as abroad and does a great job providing opportunities to immerse yourself to help the community. It is a service learning class, so if you do not have the time to give, you won't pass! She's literally the best!!
Dr. Nadal is the most amazing VCU professor ever! She is so passionate about Spanish/Latinx matters; her personal experiences as an Afro-Latina woman add so much character and depth to her lectures. She is a clear grader, provides easy framework for exams, and she is such a vibrant spirit that you will WANT to participate and go to every class!!
Professor Nadal is one of the best professors in VCU's Spanish department. She fosters important conversations about Latinx culture. She is supportive of her students in all of the endeavors in class and outside of class. She is passionate about what she teaches and encourages students to be more involved with the Latinx community in Richmond.
Nadal is hands-down one of the best professors at VCU. She has numerous community connections so she makes the service-learning component very manageable. Her passion for community engagement and social issues is very evident. The assignments are very closely aligned to current issues and are mainly reflections of your experience working.
Cares very much about what she is teaching but it this class is very disorganized. Getting clear answers on what was required from each assignment was difficult. She is very helpful with finding service opportunities for that part of the class, and I did learn a lot about the Hispanic experience that I didn't know before, but course is frustrating.
A very engaging course. I learned the importance of being culturally competent and the value of community service. Nadal did a great job of bringing in guest speakers which enriched our conversation. She replied to my emails within an hour and generously provided guidance throughout the course. Her style is versatile which allows for creativity.
For online classes, professor Nadal is the last professor I would ever take. Extremely unclear with instructions in regards to homework and exams. When asked questions, she tends to be rude and dismissive. Offers many options for community service which is nice but besides that she is no help. Make friends or else you wont understand anything.
Professor Nadal made learning a new language fun and I learned about current topics around the world. It was crucial to participate in class in order to succeed, but as a non-native speaker that hadn't practiced since high school, she was very caring and truly wanted all her students to improve regardless of their proficiency level. I recommend!
Professor Nadal is one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I absolutely loved my experience in "La Frontera," or HUMS 391, which was a service-learning course. I would recommend this class to every student in the SWS; discussions were eye-opening and I grew so much as a person. You will truly learn so much in this class, and it is SO FUN too!
Professor Nadal teaching this course was very inspirational and so informational. Taken in a very sensitive and stressful time, she provided a safe space for students to speak their own opinions and personal views on the lecture and reading material, but also allowed for us to talk about and reflect on current events. I wish I could write more :(
Professor Nadal was very understanding and clearly very passionate about what she teaches. Would definitely take again!
Prof. Nadal is one of the most passionate professors I've ever had. She is so understanding and it's easy to get an A as long as you do what's asked (which isn't too much) and show up. I believe everyone should take this class, she taught us so much important history that was completely left out of our education system.
Prof. Nadal somehow makes the task of learning a foreign language even more insurmountable. Constant homework assignments (4-6 assignments per class,) extremely short explanations and little time spent on foundational concepts make passing her course a singular effort; Do not expect help, if you want to pass, you will need to teach yourself.
Professor Nadal is easily my favorite professor I've had yet. She is the most caring and helpful professor I've had. There is homework for you to complete every day, but it's very easy and takes no more than 30 minutes to complete. You have to participate in every class, but she'll help you understand and make it super easy. Please take her class!!
Dr. Nadal has been one of my favorite professors! She is very good at explaining things, and has a great personality. Although there are homework assignments every weekday, it takes less than 20 minutes to do, you can do some in advance, and if you're late, it doesn't really affect much. She makes her class as understanding as possible. (:
There was a lot of homework but she was very engaging and cared about what she was teaching. She drops the lowest test and gives opportunities for extra credit.
Prof. Nadal is one of the most sweetest and passionate professors I've ever had. The course is very interesting and is open to many discussions which she wants you to participate in for credit. There aren't many assignments so make sure you do good on them to pass. They were easy and as long as you do what is asked you'll be fine. Take this class!
Sweet lady when you participate in class and interact. Class was online over zoom but met once a week (optional). If you're a nervous person/introvert don't take this class. She will call you out and ask you to explain but doesn't care about your half broken Spanish as long as you say something. Took me out of my comfort zone. Can be passive aggrs!
Professor Nadal is truly amazing! She is such a compassionate, knowledgeable and engaged professor. Her upper levels are especially intriguing as she often has classes study complex social issues related to the Latinx community and encourages looking from diverse perspectives.
She is super sweet and is always willing to help!
Professor Nadal is passionate about what she teaches. She is very caring and understanding if you are going through something! Lots of homework but it is very good practice for the exams (which aren't very difficult).
Such a sweet and caring professor. An incredibly interesting class with some really beautiful discussions and opportunities to engage with classmates and the professor in an emotional, meaningful way. Professor Nadal offered lots of opportunities for community service and supported students in using their skills to help the Latino community in RVA.
Ms. Nadal is the kind of professor you want to clone and learn everything from! Her passion about the community, students, and Latin culture is infectious. She is well educated and informed. The learning environment she creates is a warm invitation to learn. THIS IS THE SPANISH CLASS YOU WANT TO ATTEND!!!
Professor Nadal hosted an amazing class that greatly enriched my experience at VCU and connected me more with the Latino community in Richmond. She is truly compassionate and caring about her community and all of her students and is a huge inspiration to me. Take her classes if you can!
The teacher had a very tough semester but she was always present in class and positive. There are 15 diaries due at the end of the semester which are tedious, there are exams for each unit and you must pay attention in class and to the things she shows in class to pass the exams. If you don't speak good Spanish she is helpful and does not judge.
Anita Nadal is a very nice professor and she is very passionate about what she teaches but she is a bit unorganized. She does not put any information about the assignments under the assignments. She instead, sends them out in messages through Canvas which is a bit of a hassle to get to sometimes.
The course was very engaging. The professor is upbeat and makes the class enjoyable. I appreciated the guests speakers and activities. She suffered the loss of a close family member and still found the strength to assist and encourage us with final assignments. The course is eye-opening and you will learn a lot!
Beginning Spanish is a very interesting course. I enjoyed learning from Professor Nadal. She is positive, dedicated and goes out of her way to help her students learn Spanish.
Professor Nadal is truly a gem of a professor- she is so inspirational and has so much wisdom to share about the world, culture and social issues. I had her for several semesters and she was one of my all-time favorite professors. Would definitely recommend any of her courses.
Prof. Nadal is an inspiration. She truly cares about her students and culture and teaches you to embrace your own. You learn a lot about society and Afro-Latin culture while learning to love your own. The class is very much participation heavy, class attendance is important. A few assignments, tests, and a final paper at the end of the course.
Everything will be done in an online textbook program, and you cannot pirate. It will cost $120, so be aware. If you don't know Spanish and don't want to put too much effort in learning, don't take this class. You will need to study a lot to get an A. Tests are in the same software as the textbook, 5 major ones. Lowest one is dropped.
Definitely one of the best language teachers I've had. participation MATTERS, which I personally really appreciated. Tests are pretty straightforward, and exams are oral but very simple. She definitely cares about her teachings and will appreciate you if you show you care.
By far the best professor I've had. She genuinely wants you to learn and understand Spanish. She does call people out randomly if no one wants to participate. If you're a verbal and visual learner, please CHOOSE her! She does have a lot of energy so just a heads up for anyone taking her in the AM. Online work only has 1% penalty no matter how late.
