The test are hard!
You'd better know how to write a GOOD paper. Also, know your audience! She's a slight feminist; use this to your advantage! It may help as long as your paper is well constructed. You can't bullcrap your way through her class.
This is a fun class anyway and she is right up on her films! But grading your film reviews or essays, she is tough...the english teacher in her comes out.
I like the way she makes things intresting. She puts emotion into her lectures. Yet when it comes to gradeing the eassy's wacth out she is tuff but it helps me try to make my writeing better so I like that.
If you actually read the material and at least briefly look over the powerpoint presentations that she has in the shared class files, you will do very well on her tests. She has a great sense of humor which really helps lighten up class for those people who don't like literature. Take her class.
She is nice and as long as you realize you need to treat all her classes as an english class, attend and be respectful you will have a fun time and a nice grade. Put some effort, she doesn't burden you but does not appreciate slackers either.
I liked her a lot. Her style is good. essay topics are hard to write on.
Great class. I really liked her. Very nice person, class did get boring every now and then though.
I hated her class!!!
Ms. Turlington is great. I really enjoyed her "pop culture" theme...She makes class interesting and fairly easy. As long as you do what she requests you will do well.
She is a great teacher and enjoys new challenges. Each time I took her class it was the first time that she had taught it. As long as you do the work you will do fine in her class!
Didnt really like this class. I found it to be boring sometimes!
She read's the assignments (from the night before) back to you in class the next day. She'd be a great Elementary School teacher. She has no understanding that her students are independent adults.
Is a nicer person outside of class. Gets easily irritated inside of class if you don't answer her questions or ask dumb questions.
Nice teacher once the drop/add period ends. Papers are not easy but she grades gentle and does what she can to help.
She acts like she helping you more than she is - like she would look over a paper, find no errors, then give you a B- after you turned it in. Also, she was unclear about her syllabus - she made our class take a quiz over a story only one person had read, when previously if she didn't mention an assignment we weren't responsible for it.
She is very nice and very helpful although she was a little unclear on her directions sometimes. I got an automatic 80 on a paper because she said on her directions for the length to be a certain number of words and page length. Mine was the right # of words but not page length. So...go with page length.
I just like how she conveniently "forgets" to tell something important about the homework. For example, the first writing assign. she gave she said to choose ANY story, but forgot a very important piece of information... that it needed to be persuasive. So in class we not only had to write a 2 page paper, but had to find an artical to analysis.
Unclear grading scale... counts off 5pts for error on one paper and 10-15pts for the same error on another. Appears overwhelmed at times, she may have over extended herself with class load, which makes us suffer
Did not like her at ALL! I took her during a summer session and it was a lot of work for such a short period of time. She is not willing to work with you on anything. She would lock the door at 8am EXACTLY and wouldn't let late people in...even though we paid for the class. She told us that we needed to act like adults and get to class on time.
Not fun at all- although since we were in the computer lab, I did get a lot of other stuff done. Does not help students at all. Do not take unless forced.
Not very helpful at all. Teacher doesn't take the time to help students that are strugling. Crazy about being on time and forgets she is here to help.
Well she is a good teacher but her grading is very hard to understand.
AJT is one of my favorite teachers, and one of my favorite people. I met her only when I first took her class, and she is interesting, fun, nice, and very lenient. Most of her classes are low level and full of riff-raff. Her other reviews are unfair. If you are a serious stud, go for her.
i took her summer semester and i loved her. she is very sweet and funny. she is very easy going. its a lot of work for a short time, but its not bad. i would definally take her again.
This class was very boring. I struggled to stay awake through many of her lectures. Grading of papers isn't that bad, just know the basics of writing and you'll do fine. In my opinion she tended to a feminist and a liberal so use that to your advantage when writing papers
she was nice but some of her essay topics were boring. I struggled to make a B. It was very hard.
don't be late to her class- she will lock you out! test are easy, but unless you're great at writing essays- you will struggle to make a B.
Mrs. Turlignton is one of the easiest teachers that you will ever take in this college. The only thing is that you must do your work!!! If you don't do your work, then the class will be hell!!!! She is very concerned about people being on time. I'm the worst writer in the world and i'm making an A+!!!! A must take teacher!!!
She is an ok teacher, sometimes I get very bored in her class. Also she forgets what she has told her class sometimes.
The most boring teacher ever. Doesn't answer emails either so you have to catch her after class or wait to talk to her during office hours. Takes the fun out of literture.
worst teacher ever. does not grade the papers fair at all. was always so busy and tried to take on so much. was mean to some student and made them feel stuupid.
Mrs.Turlington is a wonderful teacher! I took her for 1101 and 1102 and if I were staying, would take her again. I made an A on every paper and she grades fairly, though she never gives a 100 on a paper. Everything in the class is well explained and she is very helpful. Take her if you want an easy grade as well as learn a lot!
Well... she is a good teacher and cares for her students alot, but you have to be respectful in class or she will try and hit you with thrown objects. The good thing though is she is a bad shot and hit other people more than the target. She grades the papers hard, but makes you learn how to write a good paper. If you have any trouble getting a pape
I've taken her for 1101 and 1102. She plays tough, but she's just a softy :) She says she grades hard on papers, but I made an A on almost every one. Just be respectful, and she'll respect you. It was a great experience having her as a professor.
Takes the fun right out of literature. Very boring class. Doesn't answer e-mails ever so don't bother sending her one.
Don't get on her bad side or it makes this class extremely hard. Idk how the other people got A's on all their papers, I struggled to keep my paper's around low B's and im a pretty good writer.
I LOVE MS. TURLINGTON:) She is very sweet and cares for her students a lot. I missed a lot of days and just told her excuses and she let me make up everything. I love her and would take her again and agian:) GREAT TEACHER!
I LOVE MRS. TURLINGTON!! She was the professor in charge of the May 2009 Ireland trip and she made it AMAZING!! It just makes me wanna go sign up for all of her classes! She is a great teacher and a very very cool person. :)
Too many essays to write. Short stories for assignments are too long, English Comp class but very dull material.
I absolutely hated her class. I took her for Vampire Themed Lit and it was pure misery. She doesnt clarify what she wants and tells you straight up at the beginning that she doesnt give out A's. I do not recommend her to anyone. All essays were basically the same and she is not understanding at all. Very judgemental when grading. Find someone else.
I love writing and was looking forward to this class but it was a NIGHTMARE! At the beginning of the class she said she rarely gives A's and that only "Brilliant Writers" could make an A in her class. She is snobby and boring. If you care about your grades, Don't take her!
I did not find her to be nice or understanding. Will not answer emails either.
In the vampire literature class we read texts that were not exactly college level reading material, yet she assigned confusing assignments to go along with them. Never clear on what was required, but quick to give out poor grades. Very disappointing class.
Professor Turlington is awful! She gives out really tough grades. I'm an A student & I received a C in her class. If you want to keep your self esteem as a writer DONT TAKE HER!
She tells you at the beginning of the class that she rarely gives out an A, and only to those who are really gifted writers. It's basic Composition!!! I frankly, couldn't stand her.
Proffessor Turlington is hard but fair. She takes her subject seriously and doesn't pander to students who are only in there for credit. She openly shares her love of English and encourages discussion in class. The only reason students don't like her is because she refuses to compromise her standards.
She graded way too tough. I never made less than a B+ on a paper in high school...that is until I got to this class. Unless you write like Shakespeare don't expect an A. Or a B
Don't take her. She is unfair and has no respect for her students, it's her way or the high way, does not compromise at all. She only allowed me in her class because she was one away from meeting her quota. So that should say a lot about her because of that she has messed up things for me so I dropped her. Please don't take her, very inconsiderate.
Hard to understand and rude to her students. Takes on too much and never gets papers graded in time. It was the last day before she entered any grades into elearning or even had them ready for us to view.
She was a great teacher. She had interesting conversations and the literature (which was very minute)we had to read wasn't horrible. They consisted of short stories for homework that we were graded on for the next class. The essays topics were easy and the online tasks were simple as well. Overall very nice easygoing lady.
She has alot going on outside of class and that affects what she does for her students. She's really tough when she grades too. Like everyone else is saying, she does say she doesn't give out A's in her class UNLESS you are a "brilliant writer." I wouldn't recommend her class. I'm still in it, but she's making me feel like I am horrible at writing.
Ms. Turlington has a lot of bad reviews but I would take her again. I got an A in 1101 and 1102 and she made me a better writer because of this class. You have to write well and give lots of specific examples if you want an A on her papers. She was really layed back with our class all semester. Her lectures are a bit boring though.
Ms.Turlington is an easygoing professor. She makes class so interesting unlike other teachers. She is a little tough on her grading, but that is because she actually wants her students to improve on their writing. I made an A in 1101 and I would definitely take her again.
I love Ms. T! She is tough but fair. She expects a good paper so don't think you can drum something up in an hour before class. But, if you provide a solid paper, you will do well in this class. Her lectures are interesting and she is really good at making you "think outside the box". I really enjoyed her class!
To succeed in ENGL 1011 you need to know how to structure your essays properly. Her class doesn't demand anything from you that you shouldn't already know from high school. She is very helpful but the students who don't care about their grades will fail. Many of her classes are spent doing group work. She doesn't lecture much.
Professor Turlington LOVES her subject, and she will share that with you! She does everything in her power to make sure you understand and get the most out of class. Take her class!
Hated this class, shes rude. She grades extremely tough and isn't clear about her assignments. The text we read was way too difficult. Don't recommend her at all.
She is fabulous! She is very helpful and knowledgeable about her subject and she loves to share it with everyone! I will definitely be taking her again! She was very laid back and helpful. Turlington is the best professor I've ever had for sure! She is extremely thorough. She is always willing to help students.
I love Professor Turlington. She is so wonderful. She has amazing subject knowledge and she is so willing to help and adjust paper times as well as offer her advice. If you have the chance to take her I strongly advise it. She is a fair grader. You work for your grade but that's what we're all here for right?
Her homework assignments ended before we even reviewed the material. Not just once, but every time. I was left feeling frustrated and annoyed. Over half my class had to drop, and eventually I did too. If you do decide to brave this woman, expect to read 6 novels, watch 5 movies, and do ENDLESS amounts of homework. Ain't nobody got time for that!
I liked the material we covered in 2112. There is a lot of reading, yes.. but Mrs. Turlington covers materials relevant to the time written (the course flows rather like a history class through different periods.) I was left with a lifelong understanding of the evolution of literature in the Western world. I can also recall most of what we read. :)
I've taken her solely for upper level classes, so I don't know how she grades for lower levels. That said, don't show up to her class expecting her to hand you an A. Work for it, participate, and talk to her. You'll do fine. As an upper level English student, you shouldn't be spooked by this. One of the harder professors, but GOOD at what she does.
Yea, there are a few papers to write in the class, but thats it. Im not usually the English type of person, but this class became one of my favorites to go to during the semester.
Professor Turlington is a very sweet lady and really laid back. You just need to read the literature, and make sure you do ALL your online discussion post and quizzes. You have an in class midterm and an in class final exam. The questions on the midterm and final are ALL from the quizzes.
I love Mrs. Turlington. I had her for English 1101 and I decided to take her again for English 1102. She is definitely stricter in her 1102 class. Participation and attendance is required. Lot of essays but really easy topics. She will do whatever she can to help you understand the material. She is amazing.
I took this class for the summer online. I thought it was great for my schedule. You have to make sure to read a weekly short story and then critique on it and answer fellow students. Not hard, but have to remember to do it. There was also a weekly quiz. Easy A if you do all the work.
Professor Turlington was amazing! She was funny and understanding and really helps prepare students for writing collegiate level essays. She is extremely accessible outside of class and makes English fun! A wonderful lady and incredibly smart! I would definitely take again!
Weekly discussions and quizzes, do the work and you'll get a good grade.
Prof. Turlington is good at her actual subject matter. She makes you really think about the material you are reading and challenges you to think critically about it. She's a bit lazy about grading and due dates but that can be a pos. or neg. She is funny though. Easy A if you actually read or listen to audiobooks of the material.
Read prior to class for weekly quizzes (can be difficult they are very detailed) & weekly discussion posts (easy grades). We were given one group project, a take home final paper and 2 tests the whole semester. Both tests ALL free response. Not a bad teacher, just not very involved or seems to be prepared. Every class his her talking about the book
She expects you to read a lot in one week, and the book is online with NO WAY to print it. On top of that, she never returns emails. I went 2 weeks with no response and when I finally got one she was rude. She expects you to know word for word quotes on test and she is a tough grader on discussion post. Be prepared to read a ton!
This class was not too bad. We ended up doing the midterm online and then taking the final exam on campus. There were weekly readings with a discussion and quiz. The midterm was wort 25% of the grade and the final was worth 35%, which seemed a little unbalanced considering all of the other coursework only counted for 40% of the overall grade.
I would avoid taking this class if you care about your GPA. Tough grader and not one of the kindest people.
I really enjoyed her class. She was super caring when I would go to her during office hours to understand some of the stories that we read. Her reading quizzes are very generic and easy. She brought tons of sweets and candies during the semester. Take her!!
Great teacher. She was super understanding of her students and her coursework, though overbearing at times, was well worth the while. The quizzes are easy, and the final wasnt bad either. You can really tell shes passionate about what shes teaching. I cannot wait to have her again!
I think she's a wonderful person and loved talking with her outside of class, but I hated being in her class. Her instructions were not nearly as clear as she thinks they are and lecture days were dreaded by everyone. She simply reads off the slide. But, she does let you do work in class and can be helpful, but only if you ask the right questions.
You're gonna read a lot. Skip this if you have a job, need to study for other classes, or are a slow reader, because one setback will kill you. Quizzes and reading amounts are usually random, as she doesn't specify how much you should read by what date. If you have to take her, read half the book when she announces you to read "some of" the book.
Acts like its an English major class when it's only 1101. Don't take this teacher if you want to have fun or try to get better at writing. Gives a generic rubric and doesn't give good feedback. Avoid her at all costs and take another teacher if she is the only one available.
Had her for a hybrid course. We had Fridays to do online work but she wanted weekly discussions done by Wednesday, even if the reading was assigned Monday. She's a very nice person but her course is a little confusing.
She was a decent professor, but every week or two we had a lengthy paper. She would grade hard and never really say what you could improve on... even docked me for not using words SHE would have used. I just feel like theres easier professors out there who dont grade as harsh..
The assignments gave little to no instruction, and then were graded out of left field. We read a novel this semester and wrote a few papers on it, and the feedback in no way correlated to the rubric. The grade was the grade with almost no feedback on how to improve moving forward. I love her as a person, but was very confusing as a professor.
I took Prof. Turlington my first semester as a freshman and she was great & super sweet! Took her Fall 2019, so everything was in-person. Mostly just readings and had some papers but they were not difficult as long as you took the time to do them. I recommend her to anyone & I would have taken her for Eng 1102 but she wasn't available.
I was super nervous going into Dr. Turlington's class based on the other reviews, but I was immediately at ease after the first lecture. Something about the way she discusses the material is so interesting and kept me engaged for the entire two hours. I'm just sad I won't have an opportunity to take another class with her before I graduate. :(
The class isnt bad but the grading is tough and you feel like the essay topics are so bland. You do also have to read a lot and it can tax you whenever you are taking a lot of classes. The class was hard to sit through when you couldve done just as good reading it online.
Turlington posted brief (10-15 min) video introductions every week that really helped me understand the readings. Some readings are dense, but she chose them well (it's worth actually reading them when you can). The discussion posts had no word minimum, and no replies were required. She is understanding, soft-spoken, and enthusiastic.
Overall, she is a great professor. There were some challenges at the beginning of the semester but once you understand how she runs the course you are in good hands. In total there are two different test but in class she lines up the material to the test that you are about to take. The final is an essay and you have a quiz after each weekly reading
In the beginning class can be very confusing and difficult from her teaching style. Just make sure to be ready for weekly quizzes and there are two tests worth 40%. QCQ's are easy and they will help your grade. Take Home Final is an essay over the texts you have read and is fairly easy. Will be tough at first but gets better. No multiple choice.
Turlington is unprofessional and rude. I have heard horror stories about her as a professor, and she has done many problematic things this semester, but now I understand what everyone was saying. She will not respond to emails, the course is unorganized and she constantly changes the assignments. Has no problem embarrassing students in class.
This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System! Do not take this professor. Warning: Taking this professor might result in headaches, sleep deprivation, and running in circles to get work done. I repeat: THIS IS THE SIGN!!!! Do not take this professor unless you have already played with the Ouija board and have seen other demons.
Unprofessional, an utter joke of a teacher who favors talking about her own agendas rather than speak with literature as a merit. DO NOT TAKE. Oh and of course, will give grades for the first 3 weeks, and then never update grades until the class is already over. Don't expect any handouts, go buy more pointless liberalist/socialist books!
Everyone else says it best. She WILL pile work upon work of books to read, and then expect you to either read half of it or all 416 pages in a week and be able to recite which events caused what. She is an embarrassment to the system and even sitting through it online didn't help with her disregard towards her students and their e-mails.
The professor has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, you'll learn a lot. The weekly video intros and discussion posts are helpful. unstuck ai saved me time on study prep alongside the textbook.
