Anmin Zhu gives extremely hard exams, decent hw's. Great teacher but his tests are near impossible especially the mastery one and the sequence and series one. He's usually pretty helpful and cares about his students. You better love math though
He is a really motivational, energetic, inspiring, hyper asian dude that keeps you awake.
Worst teacher I have ever had by far. If you have this teacher, run away like he is the plague.
Tests are insanely hard. His policy is if ANYONE finishes the test even ten minutes early, the test is too easy. He really wants you to learn, and makes himself very accessible outside of class. He grades on the curve though - top 15% get As.
Tests are not easy, but he helps you in every way he can, and wants you to learn.
hardest 210 teacher at asu.
i love zhu
Great teacher. He will do anything he can to help you succeed. I urge everyone to get this teacher
By far the best math teacher i have ever had. However, the tests were difficult but not unreaonable. Very motivated and if I ever needed help he was more than receptive and very concerned. if you arent afraid of work then take his classes you wont regret it
zhu is the man!! his tests r a little difficult but do ure homework and go to class and u should have no problem getting a B in the class
Not that hard if you pay attention and do your homework/webwork. If you fall asleep in this class then you have a disorder of some sort because this prof. is energetic and hillarious (especially when he substitutes a stick figure for x in his functions). Tests are hard...class is def interesting.
yes.... must be the hardest teacher in mat 210 I studied, did the webwork, and tried my best... but when someone does not speak that great of english, it is harder than it should be
Fantastic teacher that doesn't let you bs to get by. Can be damn funny at times.
Only effective if you speak Chinese
definitely sounds like he knows what he is talking about, very energetic, but he sounds like a kumg-fu movie during his lecture and his tests are VERY difficult
He moves pretty fast and is hard to follow sometimes, but he tries really hard to give everyone a fair and good grade they deserve. He's funny too sometimes whether he tries to be or not.
Well well well, i hated this class. Did horrible on the test and he doesn't give very much partial credit. He wasn't very good at making 3D very physically possible for those of us that are visual learners.

Great guy, knows his subject. He gives lots of hw, but he makes everything clear that way. He is definitely hyperactive.I wondered when he would make a matrix move and jump to the table :P Tests weren't hard and I got my A.Does everything 4u2 learn. His English is pretty good, none of us had problems. I wish I could take all my math courses frm him

I didn't think his grading was fair on the test. Other people got more points for the same problems.
It's a fast pace class and although he knows his math, he assumes people catch on quicker than most. He's makes us laugh without even knowing it because he randomly freaks out. Very knowledgeable, gives lots of homework, but helpful if you tell him to slow down.
When he gets into problems he seems to start speaking another language. He’s actually speaks really fast so its hard to understand him. He knows what he’s talking about unfortunately the examples he uses are nothing like the homework or tests. Use his office hours and do the homework several days before its due and the class shouldn't be too hard.
Avoid this teacher like the plague. He does not make sense at all, unless of course you have already had calculus.
Good guy. Hilarious. The class is not that hard, but I took it in the winter, which is hard. The class is alot of work, but just make sure you dont miss any class and pay attention and you will be fine. He is a really good guy.

the best teacher u can ever get in math... the guy has a PHD so he knows what he talks about. even more, during quizzes he actually help u to understand instead of just looking at u and say:"sorry cant help u..." just make sure u pay attention in class and do the homework...
he was the best teacher I have ever had .He is a nice teacher and knows a lot. He can help you in the quizz, homework . You can also get some extra credit in the class. Just make sure you go to every class and do the homework. Easy to get A.
Outstanding professor. Conveys immense enthusiasm for the subject, is incredibly knowledgeable, and very helpful. He is completely understandable, and more often than not repeats himself anyway. He's clear and concise, is able to solve any problem thrown at him, and always gets very excited doing it. Very, very strongly recommended.
This guy is worthless. If you are one of those kids that isnt so great at math or just cant keep up with like 6 sections a night, do not take this teacher. He spends essentially no time explaining things and just expects you to know all of it. His tests are not easy and he assigns webwork and homework and a quiz evry class. this guy sucks
very enthusiastic, not very helpful, can only explain things 1 way, you have to remember your past math classes or else you wont get by because he assumes you know as much as he does
FANTASTIC!! Had him for calc II. He's hard but you learn. There's a lot of work involved and sometimes the webwork sucks but he's helpful when you ask. It was my first class at ASU and I find myself missing the way he teaches, he'll do step-by-step algorithms for you on the harder topics. If you do all he asks and put in time you'll do great.
Not recommended if you haven't taken calculus before. He's hard to understand, and doesn't speak english very well. He is very enthusiastic about the subject and he does know what he's doing, but he could teach it a little better.
The homework was reasonable but his tests were incredibly hard, especially his final.
He teaches real math and makes math interasting
He is very enthusiastic and very helpful.
Dr. Zhu is very enthusiatic and happy and really cares that we understand everything. He is the best teacher I have had for math ever.
Zr.Zhu is very enthusiastic, his excitement about the math keeps everyone involved. Dr. Zhu's grasp of math goes well beyond the calculus level. Moreover, his energetic style consistely fosters an intellectual and invigorating discussion of math. Take his class if you really want to learn something valuable.
Tests are hard but the "curve" helps at the end. You will learn alot in this class but the test seem to be overwhelming over your head. He is an enthusiastic teacher. He rushes alot to keep up with other professors that can cause you to get lost. He is very knowledgeable about the subject but it is hard to learn from him.
The test are hard, you will think you have information down but you will still miss alot. You will be informed you can't pass calculus and that you should drop his class. Homework problems don't match up to well with the assignments. He offers a way of curving that will help out the grade. The textbook is crap. Passing the class is a miracle.
Remember this: to get "worst prof ever" all he has to do is give some pre-business freshman a B in 210, but for people in 272, 274 and such to say "best math teacher ever" really means something. His accent is no barrier at all and he really cares about whether things make sense. Lectures are fantastic; sure it's a hard class but he's your man.
Dr. Zhu rocks, he makes it very clear and really makes me enjoy math. He is one of the best math teachers ever.
I took him for calc3. It was my first semester freshman year, so it was quiet a change from math classes in highschool. I don't recommend him if you want an A. For my class the top 15% gets and A and then it tiers down, so it's a weird way to curve.
Dr.Zhu is the best prof i have had at ASU.I would definitely take other ckasses from him. Lectures are fantastic, he ia a cool guy and will help you out if you having problems in the class.
Dr. Zhu is the best math prof i have had ever. I love the enthusiasm and confidence of the teacher with math.He is funny and explained everything step by step. Dr. Zhu really worked the students throughout the lesson. His presentation of material flowed flawlessly from simple idear to highly complex example.
Best math teacher I have ever had and hardest grade I ever worked for. You must participate and do your homework. He expects you to work hard and if you do you will come out with an understanding of calculus.
His accent takes some time getting used to. Need to spend quality time on your own to keep up. Don't take him for summer school if you struggle with math, he puts too much heavy stuff on too quick.
He is really pationate about what he does and really wants to help students understand.
****...
He was hard to understand at first but then after i got used to it he was so funny!!! He was also really helpful :) Just pay attention during review days and you will do well on the tests... he also does open note, open friend quizzes for extra points!!!
He is a great guy! Sure he is a little hard to understand at first, but he writes everything on the board to help with the confusion. People who complain about him are ones that show no effort or take notes. He tells you what will be on the test. He also gives extra points if people do bad on tests. He really cares about his students succeding.
Recommended. I agree that it is a little bit difficult to understand him at first, but you do get used to it. He has a good sense of humor but doesn't waste a minute of class time. He truly cares to see his students succeed.
These people who rated him must be smoking crack because he is not a good teacher. He barely helped me grasp on to the concepts so I had to basically teach myself. My advice: get the hot russian teacher instead.
Nice guy...hard to understand first, so I couldn't concentrated the class....attendance is RANDOM....I got an A- as my final grade, but he just gave me an A..that was very sweet of him!! You can skip few lectures, but don't skip his review for tests...
Go to class, I got a c on my first test and got an a+ overall. Show him that your making an effort and he will give u a decent grade. He is the best math teacher I have ever had, no he wasn't easy, but I learned a lot from him. Don't be lazy, and you'll be fine. He is hilarious.
He bases his tests off of homework problems, so be sure you do your assigned work. He has a pretty heavy accent, but it's easy to get used to. He's really funny, and helpful if you go to his office hours. If the test average is low, he'll add points from group work assignments and quizzes. I love him.
Dr. Zhu is awesome! He has a really stron accent, but once you get past that he is really smart. He grades on a curve on some tests and gives extra points for doing board work infornt of the class. Take this class if you can..he will never make you feel stupid for asking a question.
Very intelligent, entertaining, funny. Difficult class that takes a lot of studying but overall, Zhu drills in the keys points.
Awesome calculus professor. Very helpful. Gives quizzes for extra test points if average grade is less than 70%. About 10-20 HW problems a week at the beginning of the semester, but slacks off at the end.
He's a nice guy, thinks that math is BEAUTIFUL, & really wants you to learn; however, his accent is HARD to get past and he doesn't explain things very well. You never know your grade until the end, and you have to put A LOT of EXTRA work into his class if you want an A. If you don't have a lot of extra to spend on math, don't take the class!
Zhu is very enthusiastic about math and that makes this class a lot of fun. He does have a tendency of picking the hardest hw and webwork problems possible but he always helps you with them. Great guy!
This professor was awesome! He is a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it. he is funny as well. His test are exactly like the homework problems!!! so do homework and understand it then you can pass this class!!
Had him for MAT267 as well. I cannot commend this man enough. He is incredibly passionate, helpful, and funny. He really wants his students to succeed and well over half end up with A's and B's. He loves math and he's the most awesome person in the world.
He is the best professor I have had at ASU so far. He is hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. He really wants his students to succeed. As long as you understand the homework problems, you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. I will definitely take one of his classes again and strongly recommend you take his class.
never replied to emails. homework is proofs and his lectures are much easier than the homework. almost nothing from the homework or lecture is on the test. 70% of the people in my class failed. he says that the top twenty grades not matter get an a the next twenty a b and so on to prevent you from cheating but he actually doesnt do this. TERRIBLE
Dr. Zhu is an outstanding professor! Will do all that he can to help his students pass - including regiving the same quiz until everyone gets how to do the problems on the quiz. Very passionate about math, hilarious to listen to. Grade A+ teacher!
Zhu EEEEEQUUAALS the best math professor I've had at ASU to date. Once you get past his accent, (which is awesome, btw) his lectures are very helpful and clear. Homework is easy, and the tests are exact copies of homework/quiz problems. T/F questions on the tests are from the chapter tests in the book. Projects are simple, too. Take Zhu for sure!
Zhu EEEEEQUALLS the WORST professor I've had for a math class. Those who praise him only do so because they can teach themselves from the book. Zhu is a great guy and very enthusiastic, but if you want to learn anything without having to decode the textbook, take this class with Tracogna.
the best instructor you can get if you are taking mat210 over the summer. honestly, i hate math and this class was great. lots of extra credit for participation, curves the class, and quizes to add points to the test grade if class average is below a 70. Get him if you can.
If you take this class you are guaranteed to get at least a C. Even if you fail all his exams, he gives you so many chances to pass the class
He is very passionate about math... very helpful during office hours, too. Tests and quizzes are reasonable and straight from homework. He grades on a big curve too. You can tell he truly cares about his students which is hard to come by here. A+.
Zhu loves math. He does a very good job at speaking with his accent, and he writes nearly everything he says on the board to be even more clear. Grades fair, and wants his students to pass. Makes math fun to learn by adding laughter to lectures. Greatest math teacher I have had at ASU by far. A+++++++++++++
Before you dismiss me as a lazy slob whining in the presence of better reviews, hear me out. Zhu is indeed very passionate about math, but he has absolutely no business teaching undergrad math. He dodges questions in lectures, mis-grades tests regularly, and never answers emails. Zhu is by far the WORST math prof I've had at ASU.
Does not speak English anywhere close to fluently, has no business teaching calculus classes at ASU. Take a class downtown or at Poly if you need to, but avoid Dr. Zhu unless you're a Chinese exchange student.
This guy must drink an entire pot of coffee before coming to class and he's always covered in chalk. He's a pretty good teacher; he's incredibly enthusiastic about the subject and he seems to really want everyone to do well. Just make sure you wait as long as possible to take the tests, he's give you all the answers in class.
Dis guy eeeeeeeequals very good math professor. He has a strong accent, but it isn't hard to get past. The most enthusiastic (and chalk covered) teacher I have ever had, Zhu will not stop talking for the entire class, but somehow keeps your attention. As long as you stick to Baaasic functions you should be fine. Recommended.
Dr. Zhu is a great professor! He teaches for the entire class period every day, which I appreciate. His class moves quickly, but if you care you can keep up. I have never taken Calculus before and I'm doing well in the class, so there's no excuse for anyone who can't do pass.
If you enjoy your professor prancing around and yelling about math in barely comprehensible "English", this is the class for you. If you like your professors to be demeaning and to repeatedly tell you that all the questions you ask are "easy", this is the class for you. Otherwise, don't repeat my mistake, and stay away at all costs.
This class eeeeeeeequals disaster. These people do not know what they are talking about. I go to the tutoring center almost 2 hours per hw assignment, tutors basically do it with me, still receive 7's on the hw. Hardest grader ever. Says he will give extra credit quizzed until test average is above 70, but did not do that for test 1. STAY AWAY.
This guy is funny but a bad teacher. I've taken calc before and gotten a B and i'm barely pulling off a C in his class. He can help you with your form on the pommel horse tho; proffesor Zhu doesn't like to brag but he is a world class gymnast as well, you can tell by the large ammounts of chalk on his hands when he comes to class.
got off to a slow start, but ended on a high note. Class is weighted so that top 20% receives an A, and so-forth. Grades hw amazingly hard, but webwork makes up for it. He gives examples of every problem on the test before the test, but is still confusing the way he does it. I would reccommend him though, he is probably the most passionate teacher.
He's really nice, but it's hard to understand him and he can't explain the same problem in several different ways. The tests were extremely difficult (used T/F problems) and only the hard homework problems are graded. Webwork is easy and you can get 100% very easily. I wouldn't recommend him as a first-semester teacher, though.
Hard to understand. Zhu loves math though. I enjoyed the class, just had to make sure to pay attention. Homework was both from the book and online. Tests were not easy, but fair.
Extremely smart but AVOID taking him. He is helpful but you get docked huge points on exams even when your method of solving is correct and gives very little partial credit. No study guide before exams. Tests were difficult which included some problems not covered in HW and class. There are better linear algebra teachers.
Definitely the best math course I've ever taken. It was actually enjoyable and I learned a lot. He really helps you out if you're struggling and pretty much gives you every opportunity to excel in his class. I highly recommend him!
He is an excellent Calculus teacher, but leaps into the realm of the abstract when teaching Applied Linear Algebra. His tests are full of proofs and things that he isn't the best at explaining in class. Very stingy with partial credit and not the most approachable person in class or during office hours when help is needed. Not good for engineers
Very enthusiastic about the subject, however, it takes awhile to understand him due to his accent, and some things are never fully understandable. Difficult to prepare for tests because there are no study guides and webwork helps minimally. Majority of tests are proofs that he grades very tough. Grades extremely tough on tests. Take someone else.
Good teacher, cares about students. Make sure to ask him how to prepare for tests. Tests are not easy.
zhu is an interesting one. likes to go very very fast. jumping around talking a mile a minute. likes to ask questions that nobody knows. does very easy examples not like the ones on the test. the textbook blows making things even more confusing so try learning everything first. my advice take class with smart friend or find another teacher
Zhu is awesome. So helpful, doesnt mind doing extra problems for students who dont know how to do it
Professor Zhu is one of the best mathematics teachers I've had. He teaches really well, he's very helpful even with grades. If I had the chance I would definitely take the next class with him.
Zhu is probably one of the worst math teacher that a college student could dream of. He doesn't go over any review, his tests are extremely hard, he doesn't teach what will be on the tests. I recommend people to never take his courses because no matter how hard you try, getting an A seems nearly impossible.
Professor Zhu is definitely passionate about mathematics. He speaks very fast and his accent presents a steep learning curve at first. He does not go over many examples and mostly sticks to concepts in his lectures. However, if you take the extra effort to go to his office hours, he is very helpful at explaining things.
Be ready to teach yourself calculus. He even tells the class that he makes the class difficult to prepare you for the next sequence of calculus. I understand that but 40 % of my class failed. No curve. Very difficult to understand. Recommend another professor!
He has a heavy accent, but is still a passionate teacher who genuinely cares about his students. I doubt there's a better 343 professor. Be prepared though, this class is not easy.
Teach yourself Calc is correct. You must show up for class and I got 0 out of it. I dropped because I had no teacher. It's been awhile since I've been in school however (6yrs military). Everyone had a hard time understanding him and learning. Horrible at explanations! I would rather wake up at 7:30 two days a week than take this class. Nice guy!
Absolutely the worst math professor i've ever had. I am and have always been very good at math, i almost got a perfect score on my ACT, yet i still could not pass this man's class. I never missed a single class or homework assignment, but i still could not manage to get above a 60% in his class. He is impossible to understand.
Very hard to understand. Hard class. You got your work cut out for you. He cares a lot about math though and he is a GENIUS.. but he is difficult.. he curves well though. Tests are impossible.
Tough class. I had to self-learn a lot of material, because it was tough to learn from lectures. Tests involved mostly problems from homework.
Zhu was very hard to understand at first, he has a pretty strong accent, but once you get used to it, it becomes quite entertaining. He really has a passion for math. Keep good notes and do the homework, you'll do fine on the tests.
Math genius. Go to class. Often lectures are on topics that are not clearly explained in the textbook. Exams based on, if not verbatim, homework problems. If needed, he is EXTREMELY helpful in office hours. Webwork was average if you attended the lectures.
Simply, if you want to pass this class with a decent grade, you're going to have to teach yourself most, if not all of the material. The tests are very difficult, and lectures are not very helpful mainly because Dr. Zhu's accent is hard to understand. Please save yourself the trouble and take another professor.
Nice guy and easy class. You just need to know your algebra to do good in this class.
You cant understand a word he says. You have to teach yourself the material.
Professor Zhu does have a heavy accent, but if you sit close and pay attention he is a great teacher. He is obviously passionate about his subject. He is actually a really good teacher and has helpful hints for methods. His tests are multiple choice, which can be good, but since there are only 20 questions, you need to know the material.
Dr. Zhu is an okay teacher. His accent is hard to understand at first, but you get use to it. His tests are hard but manageable if you studied, and payed attention to the homework. Questions from the homework sometime appear on tests, so do the homework and ask questions if you don't understand it. This class is manageable I ended up with an A.
He was an aweful teacher, I took him for my Freshmen first semester for Calc 1 for engineers and for me I LOVE math, he made me HATE it. couldnt understand a word he said, and the work load was insane.
Zhu is a nice guy who really cares about math but his accent is super hard to understand and the material is already difficult so the class is ridiculously hard. I think the last 2/3 tests had a 60% average, maybe less. Dont take him unless you're really good at math
Dr. Anmin Zhu is a funny yet, controversial mathematician. He specializes in Calculus 1 & 3. He is very very tough on his students and has web work and book work for hw assignments. Should test averages be lower than 70% he does 15-20pts EC quizzes. should you be lost go to his office. And don't take his criticisms very personally.
Very hard to understand but I would say he's a good teacher overall
Well, Dr. Zhu definitely knew his math. He probably knows more math than any other math professor at ASU. But, to be honest, I couldn't understand him for the life of me. That's just me. He assigns a lot of work about 4 sections a week plus webwork. Whether I'd suggest his class, I don't know.
Taught myself everything straight out of the book, went to class only to turn in hw. Didn't learn anything in class.
He has a lot of funny mannerisms, and at the very least will keep you awake during class. But be prepared to read the textbook a lot. Rather, if you read the book you will do very well. Problems on tests came straight from hw. Pretty easy for me. I got a 97 in this class.
It shows that he really enjoys what he is teaching which is a rare thing at asu. He is energetic and full of energy. He kept my attention during the whole four hours I was in class. I laughed every time he said RREF. It was a linear algebra class. I would take him again if given the oppurtunity.
I took this class during the summer, and he always bumped the average test grades to 70. Luckily, the average was always 60, so everyone automatically earned an extra 10 points. His accent is difficult to understand, but you get used to it. He's also does a lot of group work. Quizzes and tests are made from the hw problems.
Dr. Zhu is enthusiastic and hilarious at times. It's fun to watch him really get into the topics. With that said, he's not very clear at all and has trouble understanding questions that students ask him. He's the kind of teacher that will skip a bunch of steps and lose half the class. But the tests were straightforward. Go to office hours. Got a B+
ahhatch = "h" ahhwwaahnn = "1"everything else is cake from there
He is so hard to understand (eeekrrilllss= equals), you can barely read his writing and he speeds through his teaching. Also attendance is based on his in class quizzes or sometimes a sign in sheet. He is extremely enthusiastic but if you aren't good at math and need someone who really explains it, find a different teacher!
I consider myself a good student (never got a C in a class). Zhu is passionate about calculus, however he is very difficult to understand, he moves through lectures too fast, and his tests are impossible. More specifically: he has a heavy asian accent, he finishes examples faster than you can comprehend, and class averages are ~58% (no curve).
Zhu is very passionate. BUT: He is hard to understand, He skips major steps in class and can't explain when asked questions, Class average below 60% and gives pop quizzes to raise avg. Always late to office hours and is useless at explaining. TO DO WELL: MEMORIZE HW AND EXAMPLES and you get A+ I prob need to retake. PS. I was a 3.67 gpa student
Do not take Zhu. The entire class consistently averages a D and it's not that the class is unintelligent or not trying. Zhu poorly covers concepts in class and it's almost impossible to do the homework without putting in extreme amounts of effort on your own part. He doesn't curve either. Don't take him. It's too much work and stress.
I strongly strongly recommend you take another teacher, any teacher, just not this one. If you have the chance, drop his class and find another one.
Worst teacher I've ever had. In a class of 80 students there are only about 20-25 who haven't dropped it yet only after test TWO! You can't understand anything he says, he never shows you how to finish a problem, he makes you feel stupid if you answer a question wrong and laughs at you. AVOID any teacher is better than him if you any chance to pass
Very smart guy, but HORRIBLE teacher. You can't understand what he is saying; you ask a question and he answers a completely different question and leaves you hanging; he doesn't really explain things well because he doesn't speak english too well. Get someone else!!!
awww he's not that bad. just memorize the study guide and homework problems and the test is alright. he gives out a lot of extra credit and he is really nice at his office hours. he wants to help you and he is very passionate about math. you will be fine i promise.
He is very hard to understand. If you ask him a question he hardly ever answers its right and always thinks you asked something else. Only way i passed was because i took calculus in high school 3/4 of my class failed. Bad teacher dont take him.
Once you get past his accent (takes a couple classes) you will survive. If you legitimately do your hw (don't copy!) and come to class you should be fine. If you are taking this class be prepared to work hard. If you aren't willing to put in a lot of time, don't take him. For tests, study your hw and notes. Tests come straight from there.
Tests are difficult because of T/F and multiple choice sections which make or break your test score. You MUST put forth much effort to succeed in his class (notes every lecture, study well in advance). Do not pay much attention to the webwork, they do not help for test study. If you study hard and go to class, you will learn Calc III and do well.
I probably spent more time in this class trying to understand what the professor was saying than actually learning the material. If you have trouble with accents don't take this class. His tests are much harder than the study guides he gives out so be prepared for curve balls. Overall he's a smart guy, but a bad teacher.
I suggest taking a different professor. Mr. Zhu is very passionate about math, enthusiastic, and funny but overall not a good teacher. You will ultimately teach the material to yourself, as his accent and the speed at which he covers the material is too much. His tests are slightly harder than other calc3 classes.
Hands down worst teacher I've ever had. He come in half way through the semester to replace my other professor who had a family emergency and it all went downhill from there. I am fairly good at math, and had gotten 100 percents on the previous tests but once Zhu became my professor I got a 65. Do whatever you can to not have him as a professor.
Gives so much extra credit at the end. Easy if you try to understand him.
This is a difficult class and it moves very quickly. I would only recommend taking it if you are generally good at math or have experience with calculus from high school. Dr. Zhu is a nice person, and if you take advantage of all your resources (the homework, office hours, the tutoring center), then you can pass. It just takes a lot of work.
My biggest complaint is that he went so quickly during lecture he would make minor mistakes and then he'd go back correct it forcing you to have to correct your own notes and this happened many times. Even during the final he was telling everyone that there were typos on the test and ignore one of the options but he was wrong and caught it.
Warned the class on the first day that 1/3 people will pass. I just never learned from him and the textbook, as he warned, was no help. If you can, avoid this professor.
His lectures are very organized on the board and he is good at teaching. Mr. Zhu is very knowledgable, although he has a strong accent and therefore has problems answering questions verbally. He genuinely wants students to pass. He gives quizzes after bad tests to help grades and takes extra office hours. GREAT TEACHER.
He is the best teacher ever! I really enjoyed him. Calc III wasn't easy easy (it is supposedly the hardest math class at asu), but he makes it as easy as it can get. his notes are organized and he lets you take quizzes to bring up your test scores!
Zhu is passionate about mathematics. If you are taking him for your math class you better be prepared for studying and doing math the right way. His first 3 tests are a bit tricky but the final was easy.
First math teacher I ever had that was truly a good teacher. Does a very good job explaining the topics in class, would definitely recommend him.
I did not receive adequate help while taking this course. Prof. Zhu does not speak very good English and he is very hard to understand. Nice guy, bad teacher.
Great teacher. Speaks with a heavy accent but is fun and funny! Very passionate about math! Starts lectures with 'Math is an art!!!' :)Gives group quizess to help bring the grade up after a bad test. Would definitelly recommend taking any of his classes!
Calc 3 is a really hard class. Zhu makes it worse cause he doesn't curve! His tests are hard, not like any of his previous tests either. Takes attendance the first couple of months. If you like calculus you'll do fine but if youre just taking the class cause you have to then choose a different professor. I would not take him again. ever.
I would highly recommend taking calc III with Dr. Zhu. Great teacher in lecture, but the real key is to go to office hours. For the tests, study the homework and nothing else. Every problem is either identical to the homework or extremely similar
He was an awesome teacher, entertaining, kept my attention. His lectures were well organized, but the way he presented the info was sometimes a little confusing. It's a hard class, so use your resources, make some friends in the class, go to tutoring, office hours, whatever. DO THE WEBWORK! And all the homework.
Professor Zhu, very passionate about Calc but went to fast. Thick accent, and also not much learning but more note taking and definitions. Went to every class, did homework and was very hard. Recommend taking different professor.
Worst online class I have ever taken at ASU, very disorganized and takes weeks to get grades back. Does not interact with students, I had to teach myself and research allot online, due his failure to properly teach the class. STAY AWAY!
worst class ever this teacher never lectured. If you e mailed a question 9 out of 10 times it went un answered. appeared to have no interest in the class or the students understanding. you could tell they were forced to teach this class.they never once did there own lecture.it had no book and was 5 different classes to as one instead of teaching!
Very heavy accent that can make it hard to understand what he is saying. Very common for him to solve problems on the board without clearly explaining what he was doing. The tutoring center will be your best friend, going to class was basically a waste of my time because I had to learn the concepts in tutoring later anyway.
Good prof
Very difficult subject matter but the lectures were by another professor and very clear! Somewhat heavy workload due to 7.5 week course. Only sent out grades once in semester so keep an eye on Webwork scores. Proctored exams easier than non-proctored. Final comprehensive but much easier than practice test.
Calculus is a hard subject and taking it online A session made it no easier. This was my second time taking the course, so my knowledge from the previous semester helped a lot. Given how horrible the online math is, Dr. Zhu was very helpful when you emailed him or met with him in person. He always responded to emails quickly which was very nice.
Pretty easy. He will help you whenever you need him and exams are very easy. Just pay attention in class instead of using spotify.
Heavy accent and apparent limited understanding of english. Every time I tried to ask a question or get him to clarify, he just repeated my question then moved on to the next thing. Also, often doesn't finish board examples, saying to "finish from here" without showing us how to finish.
Very good teacher. He wants you to pass this class. Take notes, Calc isnt very easy. There is group quizzes that help you with your grade. Also, he makes extra quizzes to boost your test score. If Odish isnt available, take this guy
I really enjoyed this class. It was difficult but he really doesn't want the class to pass his class. Don't take him unless you are serious about passing.
Zhu is a nice professor generally, he would give everyone a bonus quiz after an exam if the average is low ( which is usual ).
I took this class online in 7 weeks-very fastpaced. Zhu didn't make the video lectures, but they were well-done and helpful. Zhu was great at responding quickly to emails about homework problems. The tests were very reasonable and similar to the homework questions. I would recommend Zhu, though I can't say anything about how he would be in person.
Zhu is the best very helpful easy exams
hes is a extremely nice guy but is very hard to understand. he gives you a quiz once a week with group and there are extra credit quizzes for the exams.
Super helpful. Take notes during lecture the same kinda things are on the tests and easy group or take home quizzes. Also helps out in home work if you ask him.
Dr Zhu Is one of the best come to class and do the HW with sutdying the note. You will get A,for Me I was kind of lazy.his tests are easy, the quizzes is quzi group.I took B+,because His final was too hard
Great professor! Very passionate about the art he calls math, which he so eagerly attempts to convey to his pupils. Highly recommended for any calc class.
Very nice guy but a little hard to understand and his tests are just ridiculous. He's not the worst, or best teacher in the world just take him if hes your only option cause there are likely better options.
It wasn't a good or bad class. I can't stand math, didn't put in much effort, and got a B+.
Hard to understand the ideas of calculus. More of language barrier that holds him back from being an amazing instructor to below average. Be prepared to youtube most your lessons.
He has a very strong accent and is difficult to understand at times. He offers extra credit if you do problems on the board and the homework is a grade booster as long as you do it. For tests, if you do all the work correct but pick the wrong answer he will try to help you out as much as possible with partial credit. Overall he isn't bad though.
Good professor, loves teaching and good at what he does! Definitely take him!!
BEST CALC PROFESSOR. Very passionate about math, and lectures convey his excitement. Tests are very straight-forward. His accent is very understandable, so it is your excuse to not work hard if this is a problem to you.
The only problem I have is that he is difficult to understand, but the notes he writes on the board make up for it. If you go to tutoring a few times you will get an A because the exams really aren't that hard. The class average is so low because people who took calc in high school thought their previous calc knowledge would be good enough.
Awesome professor. If you sit in the back of the class on your computer, then yeah, he'll be hard to understand. Just pay attention and you'll be fine. He gives great examples, and encourages students to ask questions in class. Has a quiz every week, usually lets you work on them in groups, or take home. After exams he gives extra credit quizzes.
This guy is so difficult to understand. "Math is a language". Yes, he's VERY enthusiastic about math, but he jumps around so much while writing down examples that it's too difficult to keep track. Over half of my class dropped out before it affected our grades. Online assignments are alright. Quizzes can be in groups, but difficult!
His examples are terrible, his lectures are rushed, and he is an awful communicator. His quizzes often have errors that he doesn't correct until right before they are due, and he rarely answers emails or Piazza questions. Avoid him if you can.
The lecture videos he gave us weren't very clear on how we can do our hw, I had to watch videos on youtube to learn how to do my homework and even that was tough. I came to this class inspired about calculus but looks like i won't be and will have to take calculus again. It was a session B and I should've withdraw, now idk what to do.
Over all wasn't a bad professor. My only complaint is that his in class examples were really easy and the homework was brutal. Tests are really straightforward but are usually only ten questions which makes them hard because each question is worth so much. Get there early so you can sit close to him. It helps to understand him.
Zhu's calculus was the hardest A I've ever earned in math. He is an incredibly knowledgeable professor, and gives organized lectures. However, at times it is hard to tell where he is going with a method, and the speed at which he conducts his classes is often too quick to go back and re-explain. Quizzes are hard and sometimes riddles with errors.
Difficult class made more difficult being session B online. Abramson did lectures. Students complained and we got an extra credit assignment to help grade and he made adjustments for the DDOS attacks during finals week. Overall, helpful with metrics of class but when asked question about material he tells you answer and not how to get the answer...
Dr. Zhu is one of the best professors I've had at ASU, and definitely the best math teacher I've had. His tests aren't the easiest, but if you show up to class and pay attention, he will prepare you extremely well. The book is basically optional for his class. He also gives take-home quizzes that prepare you very well for the tests.
Awesome lecturer. His accent is very understandable. Tests are straight-forward.
Dr. Zhu is a good teacher. While he can be disorganized at times, he will take time to give feedback to studets and goes out of his way to make sure that they understand what is going on. He has a lot of energy and passion for the subject, and always says that he won't go easy or else he will feel so bad for math. He has inspired me to work harder
Hard to understand and not very helpful
Zhu was the best math teacher I ever had. He was very into what he taught and he even made learning calculus enjoyable at times. I admit he can be a little disorganized, but his tests aren't too tough and the quizzes are almost always done in groups.
Zhu is VERY enthusiastic and his lectures are fun. Very knowledgeable, easy to follow, approachable, and helpful. I would love to take another class with him.
Professor Zhu loves math so much that he believes that his students do as well. His lectures are all over the place he jumps from one objective to another. If math has always been an issue for you do not take him otherwise you would struggle more and be confuse all the time.
If you take his class, get ready to teach yourself. His accent is a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it. Gives quizzes all of the time, but they are group quizzes/take home quizzes. He gives you answers to tests on the board sometimes. Lectures are confusing/awful so you will need help if you want to pass. DO NOT BUY TEXTBOOK!
Honestly I do not think he should be allowed to teach. I spent 10+ hours a week in math tutoring and studying all of the concepts only to be completely blindsided by his tests. Not only that but it is extremely difficult to understand anything he says in class because of his accent. Our class average was 42% and he refused to curve.
He really loves math and loves to teach. He tries his best to get his point across, but he gets really excited during his lectures and talks too fast, and unclearly. His accent is pretty tough to understand, it takes a while to get used to. His tests are usually only 8 or 9 questions, so if you mess one up you'll probably fail. Get a good tutor!!
Don't take this class if you derivatives and integrals are not fresh on your mind. The language barrier will seem difficult at first but disappears very quickly. He goes thru topics very slowly but doesn't explain anything afterward so if you don't understand it the first time (which there is really no reason not to), you'll be lost forever.
Zhu is a great professor. He does everything in his power to help his students succeed and learn the necessary fundamentals of integral calculus. He cares so much about his students. Great guy too. I'd love to have a beer with him one day. Cheers Zhu. I wish he were teaching MAT 272 and MAT 275 next semester. I would have Aced his class, but lazy.
Zhu is a great guy -- he's so passionate about what he does, it's kind of infectious, even despite the thick accent. The class is pretty easy, and he gives you extra credit if you do your homework early. He also gives you the test questions, should you go to his review sessions (and pay attention). An all-around good professor!
Dr. Zhu really loves math. He is always very enthusiastic. The only problem is sometimes he goes to fast in his lectures that you barely have time to write it down. He gives in class, open note, partnered quizzes which are very easy. He also gives one after an exam to get extra points on your exam. He takes attendance for points so go to class.
Great!
It is really hard to follow his lecture for two reasons. First, he has an accent, and second, his lecture is fast paced. You need to do your homework. Homework is a lot harder than test so it does prepare you for the test. I got 98% when class average was 35%. He does curve for the test (we got 30% curve for 35% average test). Totally doable class.
Accent is a little hard to understand but you will get used to it soon. Very helpful! Will sit with you and make you understand after the class, if you have any doubt. Do the quiz properly and you will get a sure A in your tests.
Second time taking Zhu, but for a much harder class this time... and he's still a great teacher. His accent is thick, but you'll get used to it. He goes very fast, but he realizes when the class is struggling, and will slow down if you prompt him enough. Tests are fair. Note: the textbook isn't used at all in his course, so postpone buying it.
Zhu is a passionate professor, and you can tell how much he loves his job. Do your homework and take good notes, because class is fast-paced and it broke my straight A average. If you understand the homework very well, then you will understand the tests. He gives pop quizzes. He does care about his students, and helped accommodate my disability.
MAT275 is hard, and Dr. Zhu was great, he explains everything you need to know for the exams and final.
If you want to succeed in this course, take another professor or have a tutor on stand-by. All he does in class is do problems on the whiteboard but he is very unorganized and expects you to understand the concepts immediately. Going to office hours helps sometimes. Does not respond to email. Problems have to be calculated using his method. Accent.
Don't buy the textbook, doesn't help with homework. Hard class and he makes it harder because he expects more out of us. I wouldn't recommend him.
Professor Zhu is a very bad teacher. He is good at spitting out information on a subject but bad at teaching it to another person. What I mean by this is that during a lecture he will put a problem on the board and just do it in front of you. There is little to no explanation as to why he is doing the steps he is doing.
This isn't the best teacher on campus but he isn't the worst he's very in between. During his lectures, you find yourself more puzzled by what he means. He is very very energetic and I respect that he loves teaching his class, but sometimes he moves too quick and just doesn't get his point across clearly.
READ! You have to with Zhu. He has thick accent and only goes over examples. He seems like a nice guy but grades really hard. Looks to dock you for points.
Good guy, bad professor. He wants to help but is very disorganized and expects to much out of us. Only had one week this semester with less than 4 homework assignments. I know someone in Brian England's class who usually only has 2 a week. I would avoid him if possible.
Seriously the most passionate and caring professor, but is really, REALLY unorganized and terrible at lecturing. He speaks broken English and it's hard to understand him most of the time. I never got used to his accent. On the other hand, if you go in for office hours, he is extremely helpful and you will most likely understand the material.
Loves math which makes that clear often however can't teach for his life. His tests are poorly designed along with web work being too hard to learn from. Enjoy having Paul Lamar's online notes being your teacher. Do not take, this makes picking Staff risky.
Calc 2 is hard no matter who you take it with, but Zhu made it manageable. He gives lots of quizzes and homework to make sure you are prepared for the tests (the tests are always easier than the homework and half multiple choice). You only need the recitation booklet.
There's no textbook, the online homework service used is a terrible learning medium; expect to do a lot of research on your own. I enjoy math and was excited to take calc, but this class was awful. I walked away with a 92%, but I don't feel like I learned anything. There was almost no participation from Zhu, I felt like asking for my money back.
He assigned a few quizzes at the end of the semester by emailing them to us instead of giving them to us in class. One of the last ones he gave to us at 11pm the night before the class time and said it had to be done by the time class starts, regardless of your other classes that day. He was not helpful when you went to talk to him. Hard final.
Zhu teaches very messy. His english is broken so it is very hard to understand him. He sent us group quizzes online and one time he sent it at 11p and made it due the next day. Midterms and final were hard, but curves if the class average is below a 70. He is a nice guy, but cannot teach very well. I would suggest taking someone else.
It is a hard class but it is supposed to be. While Zhu is unorganized he is also passionate about the class. He is understanding about moving back the due dates of homework and quizzes if you ask ahead of time. The quiz problems are very similar to the tests. Know how to do the quizzes (not the homework) and you should do fine.
This is a very difficult engineering class. Zhu is your best bet for properly learning the material and getting a good explanation. He owns his accent and uses it for comedic effect, although I've heard the effect tends to be better for non-asian audiences. He will explain literally everything, down to the letter, but that's the Engineering part.
He loves math and his passion is contagious. Yes, he is unorganized. Yes, he's sometimes difficult to understand. But, he is engaging and very understanding. Go to his office hours. He genuinely wants all his students to succeed.
Professor Zhu is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had at ASU. He is always excited to teach and is passionate about math. He is also a very kind person and approachable if you are ever struggling with anything. Make sure you pay attention in class and go over the take home quizzes and test review lectures before tests.
One of the few professors that actually teaches the content rather than having you memorize the necessary things to pass and then forget it. I didn't do great in the class because I didn't do my homework ever, and so the material didn't stick with me well and so I also did poorly in the final. Do your homework on time. Pay attention. Ask questions.
He has a heavy accent but I did get used to what he was saying. If you don't solve a problem his way, he takes points off. His quizzes are given out the night before they're due sometimes. After only 1 person passed the first exam, he gave out quizzes to bring the average up. He is passionate and wants students to pass, but hard at the same time.
Has a hard accent so hard to understand at first but definitely take this guy. Test problems are literally exactly from the quiz so if you can just memorize how to do the quiz problems you will get a good grade in this class. Really passionate for math and wants to see students succeed.
Yes he has an accent, but its really not that bad. You can understand everything he is saying. He might just say a couple words out of order. However, the quizzes and homework he would help you through the whole thing if you needed it. His priority is preparing you for the test and he does a good job. Very kind teacher.
Zhu is a great teacher. He has a thick accent but he explains things clearly. The class moves fast and you'll be taking notes constantly almost always. Sometimes he posts homework that is supposed to be due with only a few days to complete it, but if more than one person asks to have an extension he's usually really nice about that. Quizzes weekly.
Dr. Zhu was the most passionate math teach I have ever had. He stresses that math is a language. Participation helps, which includes asking questions that help you understand the problems he is going thru. If you can't think of the right question to ask during class, ask it after. He can move fast, but participating in class will help alot.
Zhu is caring and adorable, super passionate about math but I started off on the wrong foot and it quickly spiraled downwards from there. I think I'll have to drop the class but he's a great professor, but don't expect to be able to half ass your way through the semester.
As a math major, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He makes this class much more difficult than need be. If you do take his class, prepare to spend hours watching other people do the same material. Professor Zhu might be a genius but he cant teach calculus at all. Not to mention his accent makes it harder to understand, plus he rushes through everything. NOT recom!
As you go deeper into the semester he focuses on deriving equations for solving problems rather than showing you examples. A lot of my time in this class has been spent at the tutoring centers learning how to actually work through the problems. If you use the tutoring centers, you'll do fine. He's a good teacher who wants you to do well.
Very, very difficult class. Don't expect to be able to breeze. You need to spend hours and hours studying this class a week in order to pass. If you have a job and also go to school full time, you will more than likely have to quit your job in order to pass this class and give the time necessary to pass
I can say without a doubt that Zhu is the worst instructor I've had in my entire academic career. He is incredibly hard to understand not because of his accent, but because he speeds through lectures like Busta Rhymes. He is very disorganized and makes numerous mistakes per class due to rushing. He also kept class late at least 5 minutes everyday
Toughest class ever. Try to take Calc II with a different professor if possible.
Zhu is an interesting teacher and you will either love him or hate him. He has an accent but plays it beautifully for comic effect. Tests are straight out of quizzes and class example problems. Lots of homework. He rushes through lectures. He says "come on" or "of course" to a lot of questions like its obvious. extra credit and curve offered.
Very Funny. Loves math so much that it bleeds onto his students in a good inspirational way. Lots of homework and take home quizzes. Some of the quizzes and hw can be dropped. Extensions for assign. offered. Goes through lectures super fast. He is great at explaining concepts and condensing textbook. Has a slight accent. My most memorable class
Great teacher! Always happy to help explain things you're struggling with during his office hours. To the people here who are complaining about not doing well, it's not Zhu's fault. His tests are straightforward and questions come directly from the quizzes. Unless you just don't care, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass.
Very passionate and makes lectures interesting with his enthusiasm
He's a tough grader, but from what I know, most of the calc 2 professors are. He doesn't offer much partial credit. His accent is easy to understand, he's kind of funny, but he goes through lectures very quickly. He gives homework quizzes and group quizzes like once a week. He also offers a little extra credit in class.
Gives amazing lectures but if you don't work insanely hard you will not pass. Over half my class is failing and at this point its time to abandon ship for most of us. I studied for hours and hours and hours. I did all my homework. I understood the concepts. I still am having to withdraw. Please dont take him. Unless you are amazing at math.
Teaches extremely fast and he has a slight accent. hard to follow. Gives weekly quizzes and attendance is mandatory. At the beginning on semester went on about how he wants everyone to succeed and how if the average was below a 70 on tests he would make everyone redo the tests yet on both tests the average was below and he curved only a few points.
Avoid at ALL COSTS. Has NO regard for students. Has said, "If you have a full time job or take more than 2 classes, you should not take my class". For some reason, he believes his class is the most important one you will take, and it is not. Speeds through lectures, is a messy writer, and makes mistakes. DO NOT TAKE ZHU.
I have always been really good at math and I am failing. He doesn't offer any partial credit on exams and you basically have to teach yourself all of the material. You have to sign an attendance sheet every day and there are pop quizzes every week. He has a 20% rule so they all get As, then next 20 gets Bs. All 266 profs are tough so good luck.
I feel like Zhu could be a great professor, and if you're good at math, he probably is. But unfortunately his lectures sometimes lack focus, and he often assumes the class understands more than it actually does. If you take him, do not skip class. Almost every lecture has new, important information that directly correlates to problems on the tests.
His accent is easy enough to understand, lectures contain a lot of useful information that shows up on tests so be sure to never miss a class. He offers extra credit on all tests if the average isn't a 70. Not lots of homework. Overall good professor that knows his stuff and cares about his students. As tough as to be expected from Calc 2.
Amazing man. He is the most passionate Calculus professor I've ever had and conveys his excitement every day. Make sure to go to class because his in-class examples are similar to his test questions. If you pay attention and take close notes you're gonna get an A while also having a good time.
Very Hard Professor and half of my class was failing before the final. Not the worst professor out there but one of the hardest out there.
Zhu is not for everyone, but he is an incredible math teacher who wants you to learn. He's funny and not boring. Tests make up a huge chunk of the grade, and if you don't pay attention or don't show up you will absolutely struggle. If you make an effort and show up, you should be fine. His tests are very similar to quizzes and class notes.
Dr. Zhu is by far the most passionate math professor I have ever met. To him, math is a language, and he is sure to make you notice the beauty of it. You HAVE to attend class if you expect to pass tests, as many parts of the exams are graded based on the specific steps shown in class. This is a great class for one who has already seen the material.
He is a very hard teacher and will fail you if you do not try as hard as possible
Fantastic math professor. Always starts the lecture jumping right in and made sure we were "with him".
Prof. Zhu is hands down the best math professor I've ever had. He invests his time in his students if you're willing to put in the work to pass. He is always available to answer questions via email or office hours. His lectures are long, fast paced and packed with info; but they will be the best lectures you have at ASU. A++ Professor
HE DOES NOT SPEAK ENGLISH CLEARLY. You most likely wont under stand a single thing he says and will have to use the textbook to learn every single lesson. Dont bother showing up to class because he wont teach you anything anyway. Even stuff I already know, I was confused about through trying to understand his explanations. DO NOT TAKE this course.
He is the funniest professors I have ever had. He really cares about the subject matter and knows what he is talking about. I laughed in every class I went to. Love him
This professor clearly loves math, but has no idea how to teach it. You can't understand him and he does not take questions in class. Tale this class if you have taken AP calc and don't want to learn anything new but if you do not know calc before this class you will be screwed.
Zhu is clearly knowledgeable in math. However, if this is your first math class at ASU, I would advise against taking him. Background knowledge in calculus is essential to doing well in his class. He is extremely test heavy and tests you on hard examples, so understanding the material is vital to an A. You'll have to work for that A, or even B.
His class is undeniably hard, but if you pay attention in class, you still won't pass. If you haven't taken calculus before this, don't take his class. If you don't know algebra WELL, dont take his class. If you cant understand foreign accents, don't take his class. Overall very fun.
Online class, lectures were generic for the school and not actually from Zhu. Quick to respond to questions however which was really nice. Final is 35% of your total grade so definitely heavy hitting. Tests followed homework pretty well but I still spent quite a bit of time in tutoring so be ready to put in the work because its college not HS!
He is hands down my most favorite professor of college so far. His tests are almost identical to class examples and homework and any grade below a B on a test is only your fault. He is by far the most passionate math professor I've ever had. If you do not leave his class inspired, then you came to class to be disappointed.
If something goes off the code, itll be difficult to get him not to stick to the code no matter what. He teaches using examples only and doesnt answer questions very well, just kinda points at it some more. 5 exams make up 75% of the grade and there is no extra credit, you need to study hard to pass this class.
Zhu talks way too quickly. While you can tell he's passionate about the information, trying to follow one train of thought with him is like trying to grab air: you literally cannot. He's helpful in office hours, but he should try to talk slower in lecture, especially considering his thick accent.
Maybe Zhu is better in person, but he is the absolute worst in online classes. Little or no feedback on homework questions, midterm and tests are worth a whopping 80% of your grade, and I was constantly sending him emails on errors he made in the grade book. He even accused the class of cheating after course was over. I regret taking this class.
Good professor if you put in the effort. The summer class is really condensed so he has to go very quickly, but covers everything pretty well. There's a lot of homework, but if you do all the quizzes and the homeworks you're almost certain to pass even with okay grades on tests. Very helpful with answering questions and making sure you understand
Zhu loves math which makes the class better. He is a great teacher but he is strict and dosnt drop or curve test which makes him harder than other teachers.
Probably the worst class Ive ever taken. Very fast paced the professor could not do the material any justice. Very hard to understand what he is saying. Can be condescending to students struggling with material. I dont know someone like this got hired.
DO NOT TAKE MAT 266 ONLINE! There is very little to no instruction given beyond some prerecorded content from Professor A. Professor may know what they are doing, but there is no involvement in the online setting. Site went down, preventing many from completing assignment... professor replied days later that the site works now...
If you've never taken calculus before, do not take him. He rushes over lessons, doesn't give any exercise problems for you to do in class after finishing a section and rarely stops for questions. The methods he shows you to solve the problem are often the longest way possible when there's a simpler solution. He takes attendance, don't skip class.
HE SUCKS!!! Do not take his class at all!! He is very hard to understand, homework is nothing like the exams, quizzes are hard or have multiple errors in them. I had to teach myself most of the class. I can't stress enough to NOT take is class.
If you dont participate, youre screwed. And he will call you out (not by name) in class and tell you that you will fail and that you should rethink your major. He really didnt teach that much, he just blew through every single example and said are you with me!? without looking for legitimate feedback. I would definitely go with other teachers
Zhu was an interesting professor. The good thing about Zhu was that he was really passionate about math, and really excited to teach each day. I appreciated the energy he brought to class. On the flip side, he was an extremely tough grader, had a superiority complex, was very confusing during lectures, hard to understand, and a really rough grader.
Worst class teacher Ive ever taken. Teacher is sometimes hard to understand ( obviously not his fault ) and teaches by example problems and not by actually teaching concepts so you are left to put pieces together. Tests are graded pretty rough. Rarely curves. I recommend Odish for MAT265 but if youre taking Zhu and are ok at math, good luck.
Zhu doesnt understand that everyone does not learn the same way. He teaches with doing examples on the whiteboard and assumes that everyone knows exactly whats going on in his mind. He looks for no feedback, is very arrogant when it comes to differentiating his way of teaching, and overall the class was not fun to take. He is passionate, though.
Couldnt understand the way he talks, which made the class EXTREMELY difficult. Wouldnt recommend. You will have to learn things on your own because it wont happen in class. Nice guy though
He reminds me very much of Mr. Chow by the way he acts & speaks. He goes very fast. The first week of class, he gave us a quiz which was very hard, as is the HW. I recommend watching the videos on ASU's website for the class, reading the Calculus textbook & getting a private tutor, also studying for 2 weeks in advance for tests.
Look, it's Calculus. Put in the work, and your grade will show. Zhu is a fantastic calculus professor and he not only covers the material well, but explains why it's important. Not recommended for engineering students who are eventually going to switch into business the next year.
Zhu is hands down my favorite professor I have had since being at ASU. Hes passionate about the material he teaches, and he gives you enough examples to do very well on his exams and quizzes. He does give a lot of quizzes, but they are relatively easy. Go to his class, work hard, and you should do very well.
He is very hard to understand physically and mentally. His accent is too strong and his logic for why things are the way they are also make no sense. He is not very helpful with questions you might have and will give you short and bland answers. He is unwilling to work with you one-on-one of possibilities to improve.
No online class-tools. Can'ttrackgrade. Makes own tests, all free response. Harsh grader. Hands out paper homework-quizzes. Tests based on quizzes. Problems harder than hardest webwork with normal teacher. Example: normal teacher test: integral of sec^3(x).This guy: do half a page of calculus, then finally get to int of sec^3(x) and keep goin
My experience with this guy has been horrible. There is a critical lack of communication from Zhu in any way via canvas or email. He doesn't make up for this by giving very clear instructions in class too. The lectures were decent and you have to attend them if you want to pass, he takes attendance occasionally. Don't take his class.
Terrible professor, goes too fast on the material, terrible at explaining what to do, gave us quizzes, said he'd drop the worst ones but ended up not. Stay away from this guy if you care about taking arguably the hardest calculus you'll ever take.
Pros: -Zhu is a nice dude, excited about math Cons: -goes very fast for new concepts - he does not explain anything -he stopped teaching completely during covid 19, no zoom, no office hours (why am I even paying for uni at this point) Khan academy recommended, it taught me the entire course. Grant is great, Sal is always good
Online Cal3. There was absolutely no instruction what so ever from the prof. Any questions asked were answered with the answer to the mathematical solution, with no help on how to arrive to that conclusion. The videos are stock videos from other professors so Im not sure what he did do, aside from being half a day late opening the final....
Professor Zhu seems like a kind man, but he is not a very good professor. He not only cancelled two of the three classes each week, but he also doesn't use any of his own videos and doesn't teach at all. He doesn't help much with hw either, and is very inaccessible. The only reason I have an A is because I took AP calc last year and am retaking it.
Extremely Inaccessible and not understanding at all. Tons of tech problems during tests and kind of just says, "that is too bad". Doesn't teach, he uses other people's videos. I have already taken AP Calc in HS, and his test questions are disproportionately difficult compared to HW and lessons. Take this class if you want to learn how to hate math
Im sorry but zhu did not transition well into the Zoom format. All the test will be on webwork which is fine but sometimes the test will reset and all your work will be gone and when you confront him about it he will just say that it happened because you cheated or its impossible. This has happened to countless people and he does not try to fix it.
I don't know about a regular class setting, but over zoom this professor was by far the worst teacher of my college experience yet. He barely holds class time and just sends us pre-recorded lectures instead. Later he did hold class, but his teaching was so ineffective the videos kept many students afloat. There is never a chance to ask questions.
Professor Zhu should be avoided if possible. I had his class over zoom and he cancelled two out of the three lecture each week. Therefore, the only lecture he taught a week covered multiple topics and were taught very quickly. Professor Zhu also cancelled all of his office hours and answered questions by giving the answers and not explaining them.
Dr. Zhu does very little teaching and instead serves as a person to sit there and tell you which webwork assignments to do. He is also horrendous with technology, often times accusing students of cheating because they experienced glitches during tests. Expect no help from him, only take him if you already know the material and want an easy ride.
Professor Zhu is a very terrible teacher. His barely teaches at all and expects his students to just know how to do the math with no instruction. Never take this professor he is awful.
He canceled 2/3 lecture days for our class and taught the unit material 2 days before our weekly homework was due. Expect to self teach most units if you want to manage your time effectively. Before each test he'll assign problems from the homework to review, and if you grind them out enough it should be an easy A. He pretty much meets you halfway.
It is very clear Professor Zhu LOVES math. He lectures extremely fast and doesn't ever go back to answer questions, but if you can keep up it makes sense. You will have to review the videos he posts sometimes, but they're no longer than an hour a week. But make sure your zoom is connected well, he is fast to accuse kids are cheating.
I came into online calc 3 knowing that I would have to teach myself, and that is what I got. Use the canvas lectures and, if you are having a little more trouble with a concept, watch Professor Leonard. Anmin Zhu gives you practice questions for the tests that are essentially the same questions that will be on the test. Study those and do the hw.
Choose someone else for MAT265 online! This instructor disables nearly every feature of Canvas (no Discissions, no Grades, no links to Webwork nor Piazza, and no Calendar. You will have to work to find literally everything on your own (like homework, due dates, and help). He also closes exams earlier than the posted date. No lectures of his own!
For MAT265 Online, Dr. Zhu does not give any lectures. You are entirely dependent on pre-recorded ones that are provided from ASU. When asking a question, Zhu will give you the answer, but not really explain it. There is no calendar. Perhaps Zhu is too busy, but it just feels like there was neglect towards the students.
please for the love of god do not take professor zhu for your own sake. most condescending, disrespectful, and absent professor i have ever had the displeasure of working with. i had a close loved one die (family member) and he granted me no extensions. no way to track grades, no test reviews, questions are met with scorn. worst 2 months of my life
Avoid him. Take Calc 2 somewhere else if you have to. Professor Anmin Zhu is missing in action. There are no lectures, no office hours, no engagement. The homework is graded via WebWork and so are the tests. Not sure what he is being paid to do. You will be using YouTube and maybe some of the ASU lectures to learn the material. Good luck!
he is not involved in the course.
Do NOT take online classes with him. He is completely uninvolved.
This has been my worst experience out after taking 3 online classes at ASU. He is very serious about not giving makeup exams and he doesn't accept ANY excuses. He does respond quick to emails. Also, the lectures can be very lengthy and difficult to understand at times. Make sure to use the "show me another" on webwork which helped the most w/ hw.
Dr. Zhu boasts an impressive 55% failure rate . He has minimal involvement with his online students. I'm unsure if he is incompetent or malicious. Has a PhD, but never learned to teach. Refused to provide an extension for assignments despite being directly hit by hurricane Ida. Thankfully 150 mph winds were not enough to knock out my wifi.
He is completely uninvolved, if you take MAT 265 online, you will have to completely teach yourself the course, which makes it more difficult on you to understand the material.
The worst online teacher I have ever had. (This is my second degree). He is completely absent from teaching. Is rude and threatens students in email. This is the absence of a teacher. His class only focuses on test taking and is counterproductive to learning. Horrible horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE!
Let me just say, I rarely take the time to review anything let alone a proffesor. Up until this point I had a 4.1 GPA, this class was horrible. He posts videos for each section which are all taught by different instructors (none of then are him) the videos don't show good examples for the class. Feel like I paid $1600 to try and teach myself CALC.
Probably the worse teacher I have ever had. He does not lecture. He responds promptly but is not often helpful. When asked for help on a question he gives you the answer without explaining how he got it. When asked to explain he told many to go back and review algebra. No breaks from this professor. Matlab gave some wrong examples too.
ABSENT,-10% response rate on forum. Didnt follow syllabus, tests were comprehensive when he said they weren't (twice). Midterm wouldnt open, took 24 hrs to reach him. Had a 4.0, 100% on midterm, carried 94 up to final, 78 on final, received B-. Emailed to get clarity on my grade, his one sentence response, "we dont curve grades to help student gpa"
