HARD! Paper w/o mistakes= C! Abv/Bynd - A/B. No honor 4 diff&right word choices!
If you liked the busy work in high school, take her. Well, nevermind, at least you got a grade for busy work in high school. She is very unhelpful and quite unreasonable. Writing a paper is like playing the lottery, you never know what mood she's in.
had her twice and both times classes followed syllabus exactly. Met with her twice as suggested by Beebe b/4 papers were due and found her very accessible and helpful. Both classes were hard and fast paced but really like variety in reading selections.
She follows the syllabus very well, but shes a hard grader on papers...she's willing to help but consider writing a paper in her class a waste of time because she'll give you a C no matter how good the paper is...
A demanding and sincere teacher. Her classes are "difficult" only in that she expects senior-level work from senior-level students. She doesn't give free rides, but is knowledgable, helpful, and fair to anyone willing to put in the effort. Very
lovely wonderful intelligent prof. beebe makes the whole reading and critque process a thrill..she takes her job seriously so if you want to slack take another class..if you want to be challenged, writing included learned a lot from her and a joy ...
Highly qualified and intelligent, Dr. Beebe is also one of those professors who cares enough to push you a bit. A sign on her desk says "I don't give grades, you earn them." For me, that says it all.
Good teacher alot of unnecessary busy work like journals, readings, alot of small papers due in short time. Only help you if you go down to her office. Very unclear of what she wants in a paper!
Dr. Beebe is very fair. She is extremely knowledgeable in her content area. I would take her again. She made this study in American Lit interesting because of the selection of novels! GREAT CLASS!
dr. beebe makes you work, but is very receptive to student comments/interpretation. she is one of my favorite
she is extremely hard on grading papers, which are extensive and due in a short time, the readings and journals she makes you do are ridiculous and there was nothing fun or interesting about her class dont take her
If you really want to improve yourself as a student, take this Prof.Yes she is challenging, but not impossible, not even close to impossible. She tries hard to make things fair and adapts to the needs of her students, but no, she' not a push-over.
One of my most difficult classes. As a freshman writing class I have no idea if I learned anything, but I have a feeling I learned more than I thought. If you're looking for an easy class, avoid Beebe. I stuck it out and I think my writing improved.
If anyone want to improve in their writing skills, and want a helfull, knowledgable teacher, she is the best but If you are looking for a blow off class, dont even think about it.
clear and hard but makes you learn so you will be thankful you took her class.

Excellent professor, extremely helpful and knowledgable and a good dresser
Great Prof. Very nice and very knowledgable in her field. The class was a lot of hard work, but I really learned so it was worth it.
extremely hard and seems to favor some students. That doesn't mean she favors the ones that she has taught before because I took her in 1301 and she doesn't favor me at all. Don't take unless you want to take from the HARDEST teacher ever.
I have taken four classes with Dr. Beebe, and yes, she expects a lot. (Duh! It's college!) Her knowledge is exemplary, her standards challenging, her mind open, and her personality engaging. One of four really great profs in this Lit/Lang department. My only regret is that I couldn't take her again.
Dr. Beebe is easily the finest professor and unoffical mentor I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I am almost positive that she would win in a no-holds-barred battle to the death against the author of your choice within a SIX-SIDED RING OF FIRE.
This teachers talks as if it is her last breath. Slow down woman! She is vicious in grading papers, but the quizzes are easy points if you keep up with the reading. The texts are terrible. I'd rather have my heart carved out with a dull spoon than read another. God help you.
Expects a lot from online posting, in addition to contributing in class, reading, and daily quizzes. Two large presentations. Very in-depth study guide: expects students to know quite a lot for the exams. Fair texts. But, a more-than-fair grader. I didn't expect the grades I got. Nice personality.
Tons of writing, take Steinbreck.
Classes are totally discussion. The reading selections are poor and there are many quizzes. This class is hard.

Great class, good teacher, but she is hard, you will earn your grade, no "gimme"'s in her class.
I love Dr. Beebe. She is by far the best professor I've had in college. She expects a lot of her students, but that helps you work harder. :o)
This woman, is wonderful, wonderful, she engages you, brings new works to the canon, and she acts like a real live HUMAN BEING. You can totally tell she takes her life as a scholar seriously, but not so seriously that you hate hearing about it. Take her class and you will work for your grade and enjoy every minute of it. :)
great class! the essay topics were very unusual and a little bit difficult, but this professor is very helpful and really cares about her students...you will get the grade you deserve so be ready to work hard if you want an A
Dr. Beebe is very good at her job. She makes you work for your grade -- she is extremely intelligent and very passionate about being a "new historicist"! Take her class, but be prepared to work your tail off!
love love love this woman, great at what she does. She holds you to a high standard and expects you to earn your grade. Nice change of pace from other faculty. Good taste in books off the beaten path, just ask!
She is soooo incredibly nice. She teaches really well and her paper ideas are a lil out there. Her grading standard kina fluctuates between each paper but she tries hard to get to konw you and your writing style. Other than some hard writing assignments she is an excellent teacher.
Nice and understanding. Writing assignments are a little "different" and are very challenging. She is always willing to help. Does not fail people that come to class regularly. Take her class, you will learn a lot about your writing limits.
The class is not my easiest class but it is a good one.
Her class was so hard. I did not have time for any other class because of this one.
Passionate about her work. Lecture is never boring, you learn alot, and you work alot. Sometimes she expects too much from you. Takes about as much work as 3 regular classes do (sad but true).
The short stories are okay, the pop quizzes are ridiculous, and she's completely unpredictable in her grading style. I read another student's paper who received an "A" and it sounded like a middle school piece. I actually took time to write in this class and made mediocre grades. Follows syllabus well, but class is sheer misery.
I've had Dr. Beebe for several grad English classes. I think she's the best English prof at UTT. I really enjoyed her classes because she made them interesting and relevant. Too bad the other English profs at UTT don't measure up to Dr. B.
Dr B was great! I am not an eng major, so my interest in class was not good. However, I worked hard and Dr B made it very exciting and promoted learning. If you are good at eng or need this class take Dr B. You'll have to work hard everyday, but it will pay off.
I took AMER LIT SURVEY and it was impossible to please her! Her essays are graded extremely hard and you will get it back bleeding with red ink.
Dr. Beebe is very dedicated and excited about English. At first it was hard to figure out what she wanted from me in a my papers and I thought I'd never get an A, but once I did it was well worth the wait and the hard work. She is very encouraging and gives good instruction. I've really enjoyed having her as a professor.
Dr. Beebe is excellent. If you are looking for an easy A I would suggest another professor. However, if you desire to become a better writer and student then SIGN UP! Dr. Beebe will push you and teach you how to write on a college level. She is extremely helpful and has a passion for teaching. I highly recomend her!
Dr. Beebe is a great teacher, but she knows her stuff! Can't pull one over on her! I had her for 3308, which is boot camp for english majors pretty much. Quizzes daily, and a lot of papers, no tests though. If you show up and try hard and talk to her about your ideas on your paper she will know you are trying. Not a blow off easy english course, but you learn a lot!
Her classes are always worth attending. Dr. Beebe provides information outside of the texts. She grades papers very vigorously, but she is extraordinarily helpful. She will go out of her way to work with her students. Dr. Beebe has definitely helped me become a better writer, which is very important to me. I recommend taking her classes at bot
Dr. Beebe is awesome.
Dr. Beebe is an excellent undergraduate professor who can help you learn the ins and outs of college writing!
Dr. B is the best teacher at UT Tyler. She is tough, tough, tough...BUT she sticks to her syllabus and there are really no surprises. She won't take crap from you, and can see thru a slacker a mile away. Upside: lectures are enjoyable, even fun, and you learn ALOT. DO NOT take this class if you want to miss a lot or if you don't really care.
Great professor. She really has a talent for teaching and is able to communicate well with all students. Show up for class and do your work to the best of your abilities and you will make the grade. Took a boring class and made it interesting and dare I say enjoyable. Thank you Dr. Beebe.
I love, love, love Dr. Beebe. She is sooo sweet and always willing to help. There is a lot of reading and a quiz everyday, but that's how she gets you to keep up with the reading, because the final is an essay about what you've read.
I loved Dr. Beebe. She really made us think about the literature. I really learned how to analyze readings and open my mind to other points of view. I would recommend her to everyone!
She's a great professor. She made everything really interesting. I liked the way her tests were structured and it was actually really helpful having quizzes everyday. She actually made me really enjoy English and want to take more literature classes
She was great! I would love to take another class with her as my professor.
Dr. Beebe is so hard!! I would recommend not taking her if you want a A. But she does teach decently well and you will learn in this class.
Tough professor but not impossible. The way she graded papers was always different from essay to essay. Dr. Beebe was always willing to help. She gives very specific and original essay topics so if you love to write, you'll probably enjoy her class. If you're a CAP student needing an A, take someone else.
Not an easy class or an easy professor but if you put the effort she takes notice. Be sure to participate in class EVERY DAY.
Great teacher for a freshman writing class. She is very specific about what she wants and teaches important writing skills that will help you later. If you follow instructions and put a lot of work into your essays, it is totally possible to get an A. Make sure to attend class and do the readings to bring up your grade.
I like Beebe as a professor. The only problem that I have is with all the busy work she has you do in her courses. You feel like you're back in high school. She calls it a discussion class, but that's really not the case. And you generally won't get past theme and character analysis. It's very juvenile.
Dr. Beebe is so excellent! It is not a stretch to say she literally changed the direction of my academic life. Two things about her- she genuinely cares (deeply) about her students, and she is open to new, ground-breaking, original ideas. Also, she is incredibly talented at introducing new genres and authors to her students! She rocks!
Dr. Beebe is a great teacher. She is generally interested in her students and she really cares about how you do in her courses. She sticks to her syllabus and expects you to turn in all assignments. So long as you turn in your assignments and attend class then you will do well in her classes. I've taken her for 3 so far!
Great english professor! This is not an "easy A" professor or class, but she is always willing to help and grades fairly. She is passionate and extremely knowlegable about the subject. I try to take her every chance I get!
Dr. Beebe is an enthusiastic, knowledgable professor, who is not afraid to push her students to their potential. I take Beebe every chance I get because I know she will make me a better writer, critical thinker, and student.
Dr. Beebe is one of the most brilliant women I have ever had the pleasure to meet. She makes class a lot of fun, and extremely interesting. Be warned, though- she is very tough. Her classes are for intellectuals and not for the faint of heart! You will get a lot out of her lectures though- she is incredibly insightful.
Dr. Beebe is FANTASTIC! Her class will not be easy, but you will love the life she brings to dead texts. There is no part of her class that is unnecessary. Everything is done for a reason & has a purpose. BEST CLASS EVER! I take her every chance I get!!!
Dr. Beebe is brilliant. She follows through with all promises. She will push you, but she is very understanding and flexible if you are upfront and honest. I love her so much that I've taken her about 8 times in 4 semesters. I cannot say enough about how amazing she is as a person and as a teacher. I learn so, so much in her classes.
Good professor! I learned a lot from her classes.
Dr. Beebe's classes are without a doubt some of the most difficult I have encountered. However, I am always proud of the work I accomplish there and everything I learn. She is so funny, smart, entertaining and goes out of her way to keep you engaged. Great teacher. She could be teaching at an Ivy League college if she wanted to :)
Dr. Beebe is the best prof I've had at UTT. She is well-organized, her syllabus is clear, and her expectations are clear. You MUST do the reading to prepare for daily quizzes, but they're easy if you do. Also stay on top of BB posts. Her lectures are interesting and it's easy to take notes- just make sure you do! Not an easy teacher, but very fair.
Brilliant.
Dr. Beebe is the most inspirational professors I have even had. Not only does she teach you the material, she teaches you to love it. Her lectures are given with passion -and that passion is contagious. Take her class. She pushes you to be a better student, and you will love her for it.
Excellent teacher. Would recommendtake again.
You will work hard for Dr. Beebe, but it's worth it. She is very clear from the beginning of her expectations for the class. The lectures are more like class discussions and they are always informative and entertaining. This teacher is a "must-take"
Dr. Beebe is amazing! I loved her class and can't wait to take another one!
Tests are not hard when she provides you with a day to review for the exam in class. Also she gives you the possible questions that could be found on the exam so you're able to readily prepare yourself.
Dr. Beebe is an expert in her field. I learned a great deal in her class. However, she made some harsh statements toward students in her lectures and I felt she lacked patience at times which left me feeling discouraged.
Dr. Beebe is worth your time. A lot of people will complain that she's difficult, and she can be, but that is not a weakness. I have left this semester knowing more than I did leaving it and that's exactly what you want from a teacher. Take this class, take any class she offers. You'll grow tremendously as a scholar.
As a graduate student, Dr. Beebe is hands down the best professor I've had thus far. She expects a lot from her students and we did a lot (A LOT!) of work this summer; however, I have learned so much and have gained so much from taking her class. I highly recommend her classes and, if the chance is there, I will take her again. She is a joy!
For my education dollars, the absolute best professor on campus. Do you have to work? Yes. But when you're done, you understand the material at the highest level.
Dr. Beebe breathes life into literature so that you get more perspective on life at a different time period.
The professor really knows what she's talking about and expects a lot from the students. I would say she's definitely one of the best professors I've ever had and would suggest this class to anyone. It's hard work but will change the way you look at and analyze pretty much everything. She's awesome and will work with you if you need help.
I took Dr. Beebe's class in the Fall of 2015. I thoroughly enjoyed the class even though it was an 8 AM. There is a lot of reading for the class that correspond to critical thinking quizzes the next lecture day. Dr. Beebe will help you grow as a writer as well as analytically thinking. The tuition spent on this class is well worth it!
Amazing professor, but she is not for the faint of heart. Reading avg was about 300-400 pgs per week and avg. 12-15 pgs written per week for DB posts/essays as grad student. Do not take while taking another hard course or if you do not have the time. However, you'll learn enough for 4 classes worth of tuition, and her lectures are funny.
This class helped me grow as a writer, a critical reader, a critical thinker, and has made me a better teacher. Don't wait until Sunday night to begin her assignments. She READS your essays and challenges you to write better. Worth the time and worth the effort.
Best literature professor at the school.
Dr. Beebe genuinely cares for her students. She is a tough teacher, but you will know your stuff and become a much better writer. This was my fourth time in her class, and I wouldn't be where I am today academically without her guidance.
Dr. Beebe is an excellent professor. She gives amazing lectures and gets into the discussion. However, she expects her students to do the same. She gets upset when her students don't participate. Her expectations are incredibly high and there were times where I struggled meeting them. She gives great feedback. I'm taking her again next semester.
So difficult. She was extremely tough with grading. Fun content, but never could be up to par there.
I have had Dr Beebe for four semester now. She is a great and caring professor. Not only did she lead me in the classroom, she gave me outside opportunities to work on the newsletter and encouraged me to apply to conferences. She pushed me to publish my work, and I did. She made all the difference in my graduate career, I highly recommend her.
Dr. Ann Beebe is an AMAZING professor. I have taken her classes for over four years in undergraduate and graduate-level courses. Dr. Beebe is a mentor, an advisor, and an advocate for her students. The only regret that I have about graduating from UT Tyler is that I will not be in Dr. Beebe's classes any longer. She will be a hard act to follow.
If you are planning on becoming an English professor/teacher, then you must take this professor. She will make you work for everything you earn, and you will be better off because of it. Don't be threatened that she's tough. She cares more about her students than anyone else I know.
Dr. Beebe makes the world of English literature seem vast and wonderful. You learn a lot in her classes. She helps you see your own potential, and encourages you to reach it. She's a true teacher. You must read in order to do well, and you wont regret any of it.
Not an English Major, but I really enjoyed the class. If you pay attention in class and take notes, you should be fine. She gives you all the possible questions on a test beforehand. (She gives you about 30 but only picks 7) The quizzes consist of analysis questions on the assigned reading. Homework is roughly 10-15 pages of reading per day.
Dr. Beebe is a fabulous professor!!! She is passionate about teaching and makes the class enjoyable. There is a lot of reading required and a heavy workload as far as that goes but it is so worth it!
Dr. Beebe is an exemplary professor. She has high expectations for her students because she genuinely believes in their abilities. The truth is, if you read, study, and offer discussion in class, you WILL learn. This is a promise. . If you are coming to UTT as an ENGL major, make sure you build a relationship with Dr. Beebe. You'll be glad you did.
Beebe is the best she sticks with the syllabus and pushes students to engage with the reading. She requires a lot but shes definitely the top professor in the department
Dr. Beebe is an amazing professor, she pushes us to think critically and expand beyond our thinking boxes. If you do your homework (reading pages) every night you should do just fine. During lecture she goes over the reading and points out any possible essay questions for future exams.
I took Dr. Beebe's summer American Literature class as a graduate student. In five weeks, I got a good education in the short fiction of Nathaniel Hawthorne and John Updike. Dr. Beebe presented her expectations for the class at the beginning and didn't waiver from them. She encourages frequent participation in class discussion. She's funny, too.
If you don't mind a ridiculous amount of busy work, agonizing discussion, and unrealistic expectations because she wants to make sure you write like she does, avoid at all costs.
Id be curious to see the grades and effort anyone who did not absolutely aDORE Dr. Beebe received. Shes a WONDERFUL professor, who genuinely wants to see her students succeed, not only in the classroom, but also in their future careers. She leaves detailed comments on our essays, which sparks improvement. She is who I aspire to be one day
This is my second time to take this professor and if I could have helped it, I would have gone to someone else. Either it was the subject matter, it was, or it was the professor's teaching style, I don't know at this point, make her class your top priority because if you let it slip, there could be a possibility of getting low grades or failing. :(
Beebe is the best! Dr. Beebe is a very understanding professor. She will do everything she can to be sure you pass. Being in here senior seminar class has been a real joy and highly educational. Love, love, love her and you will too.
There's SO MUCH to read with this course. I couldn't possibly keep up with it all without letting it effect my other courses so I didn't. While it may have penalized me some, the classroom discussions are very helpful in preparing you for the quizzes as long as you have at least a surface knowledge of the texts. The final paper tried to kill me.
You will read all the books she assigns. She is clear about her expectations of the quality of the work submitted and she will make it clear when they are not met. She will also help you meet them. You will learn a lot from her classes if you put in the work.
Love Beebe so much!! She is one of my favorite teachers and is always willing to be helpful. She wants to see you succeed. This class takes a lot of effort but if you put in the work you will love it!
Dr. Beebe leaves no doubt about the rigor she expects from her students. She comes across with a great deal of passion for what she does and follows through to make her point. A special professor. If youre taking her course online, take the time to listen to her lectures and engage meaningfully in discussion boards. Would take again!
I appreciated her this semester. She was understanding about the challenges of life. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and enjoyed what I learned. She is enthusiastic about her subjects.
Ridiculous amount of homework and readings. Expects student to read six stories in the span of one day. Cannot even focus on other classes just so you can catch up on only her. Her discussion boards feels like writing essays, takes about four hours to complete all of her required assignments so plan ahead she will not allow any late works.
This class is a lot of work, but it is NECESSARY work. Nothing is "busy" work and the discussions are amazing. I have never enjoyed Discussion Boards on Canvas, until this class. Her prompts are so open-ended and she provides several choices to pick from. I love this class so much, even though it is a lot of work. Dr. Beebe is amazing and she cares
I wish I were better prepared for this course 5346. Do not enter this class as a first in your graduate journey. She is a great instructor, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and encourages students to create scholarship.
Dr. Beebe is so thoughtful and cares about her students. She always goes above and beyond to ensure her students are taken care of and in the healthiest state possible. I love how fast she answers and is always there if you have questions. Definitely take Dr. Beebe if you ever have the chance, you won't regret it!
If you want a seriously dedicated English professor, then look no further! Professor Ann Beebe was possibly the best professor I've had yet. Her class consisted of a lot of work- alternating application/analysis homework, discussion posts, and a multimedia project. But you will learn so much and she will make you enjoy the work! Bonus- no textbook!
